Dr. Uchoa is a kind man who is relatable to his students. However his style of teaching was different than what would be expected on the exams. He teaches more on physics concepts instead of on how to solve exam problem questions that include math. Prepare to spend much time outside of class getting help on the homework problems too!
This is the worst class I have taken. Bruno cant explain answers well, the exams are not like the practice exams, & the lecture slides are reused every semester. The slides are boring and jump topics. I attended class every MWF, did the HW, reading questions, & yet i still did not understand. I do not recommend a physics course at OU to anyone.
Prepare yourself for a semester of listening to someone haltingly read equations off garbage recycled slides and every so often yell "QUESTIONS???!!!!??" I like learning. I liked the material. I hated trying to learn with this professor. Tests weren't that bad but the lectures were HORRIBLE and you had to be there for your clicker question credits.
He is not the best at explaining things but makes it very difficult to earn less than a C as long as you do the homework, group problems, and clicker questions, which you get credit for just by clicking in anything. However, I feel like there is a problem with the professor when he has to make the grade cutoff for a B 73.2%.
A lot of learning to be done on my own.
Only formats equations through text, where it's hard to understand what's going on. His lectures are too tough to digest and goes too fast.
Does not give partial credit. Not as heavy as an accent as other professors but he makes up for it by very poorly answering questions, going through the slides way too quickly (not giving you time to take *any* notes) and makes you get iClicker (rn anyways) for attendance.
Truly an absolutely horrific professor. Goes way too fast through the slides, only reads of slides and fails to explain anything going on with the slides. He fails to explain any variables and just posts a bunch of equations with little explanation on how to break them down. One of the worst professors I have ever had.
This has got to be the WORST professor I have ever had. I have not learned anything from his lectures and no one around me has either. It's absolutley ridiculous that we have professors this bad at THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA. This is supposed to be a good school. The only learning I havve dojne while in this class has been from the textbook.
He speeds through his lectures and pretends that everyone understands what he is talking about, but no one does. With my major, most of the later classes are offered only once a year. With that being the case, I am afraid I am going to fail, which will set me back a year for graduation (I have a 4.0 GPA with 96 credit hours taken).
Sucks. Absolutely terrible. Ou is failing us.
Dr. Uchoa is very clearly passionate about physics. However, his lecturing abilities are not good at all. He rarely works through a problem in the lecture; instead, he quickly walks through pre-solved examples on his slides with the solutions typed up in text boxes, which are hard to read. You will likely have to learn this material on your own.
Does a terrible job teaching lectures in a way that makes sense. Class averages failing scores on all exams. Homework tests knowledge not even taught in class. Doesn't explain the notation or equations used. I was very confused and struggled a lot in this class. Its hard to prepare for his exams because they are all or nothing multiple choice.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! The lectures are horrible and extremely hard to follow. The professor is hard to understand, it is impossible to get a good grade in the exams as they are unrelated to course material and the homeworks. Get ready to constantly study and perform bad the entire semester.
Dr. Uchoa is the worst professor I've had. He's knowledgeable but terrible at explaining material and only reads from slides. This class made me reflect deeply on my existence and led me to seek guidance in Jesus Christ. I often drove to class without a seatbelt because I wanted to die before making it to class. Try to take another professor. Amen.
Professor Uchoa is definitely the worst professor that I have encountered at OU, especially compared to his predecessor. Each exam is multiple choice, yet takes ages to be graded. His exam prep modules are very unclear, and most equations used on them are NOT EVEN ON THE EQUATION SHEET FOR THE EXAM. There is more, but I don't have space.
This professor is the worst I have ever seen. Hes practically a supervillain in the classroom. He takes joy in watching students struggle, especially when most of us get the clicker questions wrong. His condescending smiles make the entire experience unbearable. Avoid this professor at all costs if you value your sanity and academic success.
I know I speak for all of my classmates when I say I was genuinely just so lost throughout this course. Dr. Uchoa seems like a great guy, but he just isn't the right professor for a room of engineering students. Nothing ever felt properly explained, study materials for tests weren't helpful, and overall just not a good experience.
From what I have heard, Dr. Uchoa was a former upper-level physics professor, and it shows. While he does try to make sure you understand the content, it's hard to form a question when you fail to understand the basics due to him reading off the slides and not adding much else. He's a decent person, and does care about you, but horrible professor.
He's smart and knows his stuff, but hands down the worst teacher I've ever had. Reads from disorganized slides, explains nothing clearly, and mocks the class when we get questions wrong, as if we're dumb. Absolutely do not recommend him to anyone serious about learning. If you do end up taking him, rely on videos on the internet to learn.
I have never seen a less understanding teacher in my life, when you try to reason with him on basic logical issues he made errors on he will never admit it.I have never seen someone happy while watching the entire class fail. Do not take BRUNO at all cost. I have seen student yell in class for how bad he is. AVOID AVOID AVOID.Take the class at OCCC
Honestly, one of the worst professors I've had. If you want a professor who is good at reading off of slides, then you should join this professor's class. Tests are fairly difficult. No partial credit. No room for error. No extra credit. See his name? Run away. Want a good GPA? Avoid him. I have learned almost nothing worth using in his class.
Great teacher, but be sure to ask about whatever you don't understand. He will quickly move on if you don't specify what is not clear to you.
No one knows what the grading scheme is in October. The average exam score was a 50 after a generous curve. He refuses emails and you can only get in touch via a public discussion board answered by TAs where every other student can see what you post. His lectures make no sense. Both of his five star reviews were written by him on burner accounts.
After two exams in this class, I feel like I have learned absolutely nothing. I have also failed those two exams because lectures are almost impossible to apply to tests due to the scenarios being very different. Homework in Expert TA is also not applicable. The only reason I am not failing is because of the crazy grade curve this class has. Avoid.
Lectures are run through incredibly quickly and focus on things that are not important, like deriving equations instead of using them. When asked questions during lectures his go-to answer is "Because that's how it is". Exam questions are worded terribly and intentionally tricky, partial credit is also not included when graded. Just read the book.
I would give this professor a 0/5 stars if it was possible. Any review above 2 stars is most likely fake. He recycles old slides that are crazy confusing and skips through them as if you already know what you're doing. The tests are insanely hard to where the averages are less than a 50%. Don't take this professor if you care about learning physics
I'll give him this, I can tell he loves what he's teaching, but he teaches like we already know the material. The homework barely relates to what we do in the lectures, and the lectures teach a bunch of useless information like taking an integral we will never evaluate. The average of the last test was a 50 with a "curve". Avoid at all costs.
We have had two midterms in this class with the averages both being in the 40's forcing him to curve them to the 50's. I feel like I have genuinely learned nothing from his class and any learning has been on my own. He is awful at lecturing and will laugh at us when we do not understand something.
Dr. Uchoa is not a good professor for undergraduate students. He was known to have taught grad-level classes before and it definitely shows. He goes through slides of important concepts like we should already know them, and doesn't work the examples shown well. His exams are multiple choice, no partial credit, often with low curves. Overall: avoid.
If you have to take this course with this professor hopefully you're good at learning from the textbook because the lectures are so dry. If you don't have to take this course with this professor, don't. Exam scores are so low even though it's multiple choice and the homework is r o u g h. Good luck, soldiers.
This professor is extremely vague if you go ask him for help. His answer is usually "Ask the TA". In lecture he always asks "Is this clear?" but when students ask for clarification, he says what he did the first time leaving it still unclear. The exam average is between a 40-50 and his curves barely help. He had to drop a C 60-72.
The homework is way too difficult, and the lectures do not cover everything the homework asks. I had to go through 3 TA's to get the help needed, and his response was "This is an overly complex and hard question. I'm not sure why he gave you this." It is clear Professor Uchoa does not care about his students or their success.
Don't Just don't Take it next semester if there are no other professors available Save yourself from the mental turmoil.
Do not expect to pass any of the exams. Uchoa does not know how to teach, and only explains the equations on his slides without relating them to real-world processes so it is extremely hard to comprehend what he is trying to explain. The only reason this class is passable is because a 60% and above is a C. Avoid this professor.
I spoke with many fellow students and we believe that dropping our lowest test would be very fair. We plan to give him at least a 4 rating if he does. This is the most fair outcome
I sincerely wish the BEST! for this professor.
He is bad at lecturing but that is all the class consists of. It is very hard to follow and he moves from topic to topic very quickly. I would not recommend unless you want to learn everything outside of class on your own.
The lectures are really bad with a lot of his explanations and slides either not making any sense or not showing a clear line of logic with a lot of his example problems having steps omitted. Another big problem is the exams they are multiple choice and are typically conceptual in ways you never learned or thought about in class or on the homework.
Dr. Uchoa is an absolute menace and a danger to education. His slides ancient and unreadable. Exams are packed with nonsense he never taught, clearly meant to make us fail. This class isn't just bad—it's soul-crushing. My GPA tanked, my mental health suffered, and my enthusiasm for the subject is gone. Save yourself from this academic horror show.
WORDS do not even begin to describe how bad this guy is, I know several people that have had serious mental brake downs because of this guy. AVOID at all cost. I MEAN IT
Uchoa, you are by far the worst thing that has happened to OU's physics department. I think you might have singlehandedly made it worse than the math department. You are in charge of teaching a hard subject, sure. But you are by far the last person I want teaching this to me. I would rather have someone speaking straight Chinese than you.GPA KILLER
DOOOOOONNNNNNTTTTTT, other reviews sum up up perfectly. GROWN MEN HAVE CRIED
Just finished the last midterm, never have I seen a person so oblivious to the needs of his student. He must have some mental disconnect to his student. WISH the best for my future fallen comrades!!!!
Had to drop this guys class, SO DID MANY OTHERS. I got an A+ in Physics 1 so I dont know what the problem is with this class. TEST are impossible. DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE HOMEWORK. Im done with OU they are failing us
Passing this guy's exams might as well give you a doctorate in understanding the minds of sociopaths. I mean seriously, this guy, is terrible. When he walked in with the syllabus the first day and it said you need an 85 to get an A, I knew right then and there we were about to get crushed. Do not get your hopes up. Uchoa is coming for your GPA.
OU obviously wasn't getting enough funding from their engineering department so they had to bring in this guy to delay everyone from graduating. Oh my goodness, you have a better chance hitting an 8 leg parlay than passing his class.
ugh i wanna drop out of stem because of this class
He is just flat out terrible. His test are wayyyyy more difficult than anything in class and I have literally learned nothing. Avoid!!!!! OU should never have someone like this man teaching a class. Unacceptable!
This professor is one of the worst professors I have ever had. His exams have NOTHING to do with the practice exam, the HW is beyond the comprehension of anyone that takes the class considering half the course is Calc IV/Calc III based. He has to hate his life, hate our life, or both. A squirrel could honestly teach better than him. OU is failing
He would make a better physics 3 professor but do not take him for physics 2. This is a foundational class for a lot of majors and he does not fully explain the concept of proofs behind things. He also does not work problems out but rather explains things as they appear on the slides and he will forget optimal ways to solve problems.
This Professor focuses more on getting through the content instead of effectively teaching the concepts. He allows us to ask questions, but how you able to understand the concept if the concept is explained the same way? It is very difficult to relate to the professor when he explained one question five times and refused to work out one integral.
Dr. Uchoa is the worst professor I've had at OU by far. All he does is use the same PowerPoint slides and reads off of them. He seems to be really smart and knowledgeable but doesn't know how to properly teach or give examples. The tests are also ridiculously hard and barely resemble anything else given in class.
GET this guy out of OU, he is FAILING US. FFAAIILLIINNGG UUUUUUSSSSSS. Never have I seen someone like this.
I am crying right now, the mental torture this man had put the class through need to be studied. I will be dropping out of engineering my junior year because of this man.I tried to have a conversation about my grade with him but he is only focused on his research. The one good thing in this class is my day one Derek Philliber Greatest TA of all time
Please avoid at all cost,AVOID
You have a better change guessing on the exams then actually attempting them because they are designed to decieve you, you'll probably score above class average too! The homework is literally impossible unless you have a 200 person group chat of everyone helping eachother and 200 GPT's all giving it their all to solve these Ph. D. level problems.
Bruno is BY FAR the worst professor I have ever had. Do not bother listening to anything he says in class it won't be on the exams anyway. Take all the money you spend to take this class and go to the casino and bet it all on black. It would be more beneficiary than wasting your money on any class this dude offers. !!!!!!DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY!!!!!!!
His ability to teach is horrible. He reads off the slides as if we are illiterate. The math that follows his lecture is typed, and he refuses to walk us through it. He constantly tells us to ask questions, but the whole 200-student lecture is so lost that we don't know what question to ask to understand.
Bruno Uchoa is hand down the WORST professor I have ever seen. He does not care about teaching at all, and is only at the University of Oklahoma because of his research. The averages for tests are consistently in the 50s, when the class is comprised of mainly 4.0 students. The lectures are confusing and he is difficult to understand. DO NOT TAKE
Homework's are irrelevant to exams despite taking hours (and a chegg subscription) to complete. Exams require a 95% understanding of the concepts to score a bare minimum of a D+. Recitation is the most important part of the class, where you'll actually learn material that will be on the exams. Even the TA's are confused. You're set up to fail.
The most useless lectures you will attend at this university, but necessary to attend due to getting the clicked questions taken care of for participation. The homeworks are both difficult and don't help exam prep, and it should say something when the exams need to all be curved up and the A/B/C/D thresholds are 85/72.5/60/45. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
This professor reads off the lecture slides entirely. The slides are messy and does not explain the problem solving strategies. The tests are way too difficult than it should as it requires as much as possible to score a D+. There is no room for error for the exams since there are no partial credit. To save your GPA, please avoid him at all costs.
There is 0 reason on this earth that one homework question should have a part A THROUGH M... WHAT??
Dr. Uchoa seems like a nice guy, but he is a god awful professor. He clicks through slides explaining simple things in the most elaborate way possible, like we all have PhD's in physics. The tests are very hard with a combination of conceptual and math. If possible, do not take with him.
UPDATE: This class has caused me to relapse out of desperation for an escape from Bruno's evil antics. I have fallen out with my friends and my parents are threatening to withhold my tuition payments. No matter what I do I can't escape Bruno. From the detrimental drop in my GPA to my restless nights of sleep Bruno is there. He will forever haunt me
Look, there are many classes where professors say you would want to read the textbook just like Bruno did. However, most people don't and it turns out fine but not in this class. I read the textbook and I am doing fine. I do not care about his teaching style by any means, however, the class is not too terrible. You just need to put some effort.
Verily, this class hath proven to be the easiest B of my entire scholastic journey. The tasks were light, and the expectations fair, yet I have attained this humble grade with naught but a modicum of effort. Truly, it was a course of little burden, a pleasant reprieve amidst the more arduous of my academic endeavors.
Just mid, everything about him is mid, his care for student is mid, his teaching for undergrads is mid, his attitude is mid, his exam grades are mid (50s), overall the class is so boring I don't show up.
Dr. Uchoa is passionate about the subject but doesn't know how to handle students who aren't also passionate or even who don't understand. Exams are multiple choice, no extra credit, not aligned with the lectures or homework, and are far more difficult than what he implies they will be. Lecture slides are abstract equations with no context.
Dr. Uchoa's lectures are unhelpful, as he merely reads slides and fails to address questions effectively. His assignments don't align with lectures, and his exams are confusingly unrelated to the material taught. Overall, his teaching style is disorganized and frustrating, making the course unnecessarily difficult. He is truly a terrible professor.
Uchoa is a very passionate teacher but he is not good for large courses such as PHYS2524. Lectures contained problems that were "solved" using text boxes and missed steps. Homeworks were long and difficult and weren't beneficial to preparing for the exams. Exams were multiple choice with no partial credit. Overall, nice guy but terrible instructor.
did yall really think phys 2 would be easy, ofc its hard bruno said at the beginning that you would have to put in the work for a good grade and a lot of these people are not putting in that work, that being said the tests are a little too difficult. I do think he rushes the slides for lecture but it is too much time to go over every single problem
Dr. Uchoa is a decent person, but a terrible professor for introductory physics. He knows a lot, but is either unable to or unwilling to break down how he jumps between steps on problems or where he derives various formulas, shortcuts, or variables from. In short, he teaches like a grad school professor, which is terrible for Physics 2.
Absolutely terrible, have never been so lost and overwhelmed by a class.
Dear OU, Let this man research and never step foot in a lecture hall again. If I said what I truly felt, this post would be taken down. Please, OU, pay the professors well so they don't take it out on us. If you absolutely need this class, buckle up, because it'll be a long, tumultuous ride. May the Lord take the wheel for this final Exam. AVOID
If you have to take this class with him. I am praying for you actively. He has a hard time explaining easy concepts. He should definitely just be a research PhD. OU please find us suitable professors. We have SEC money for it.
A grueling course, but you can get through it. Read the textbook to learn and visit office hours. Bruno should be an upper-level professor, truly. We miss Bruce
I am not one to leave reviews of professors but Uchoa was so bad that I feel like I have to. The biggest thing that I have to say is that when you curve every exam by 10% or more and not a single exam has an average that is passing after the curve you should really rethink your teaching methods. Or you maybe just teach in the first place.
Hardest class I have ever taken. Lectures taught completely over everyone's heads. Average exam score was below 50% with a small curve. Prefers his TA's to help with instruction rather than himself. Nothing taught in class prepares you for what is on the exam. I barely scraped through with a C by acing everything while failing every exam. AVOID.
His teaching style is awful. He only read off his premade lecture slides and never worked any problems on the board. He was also very monotone and seemed uninterested. The homworks seemed unrelated to anything we learned and the tests were MULTIPLE CHOICE. No partial credit for a physics exam is crazy. Please do not take him for this course
Decent guy but dear lord this man forgot what it is like to be in introductory physics. At the very least he made it manageable to not fail so long as you participated.
Exams are too difficult, no partial credit, averages in the 50s.Homeworks arent related to exams. He reads off pretyped lecture slides and he wont work through examples on the board. No exam reviews in class, only in recitation, which does not come with answers. Its possible to pass, you need 100s on everything and you can fail exams and still pass.
Bruno is the worst professor I have ever had. All he does is go over slides and doesn't explain them further. When you ask questions, he does not explain, all he does is repeat what he said before. Tests are multiple choice and don't have any partial credit. If you have a choice DO NOT take his class.
Overall, this class was alright I felt Bruno was a good dude but lacked empathy and the ability to explain things at times. No matter the professor this work is not easy and i'm glad half the grade was basically participation. I would not take him again but acting like he is the worst professor ever is pushing it in my opinion.
God awful professor. Clearly very intelligent but doesn't know how to explain intro level concepts. Tests were impossible (averages of 30-50%). Nothing helps prepare for exams. Was unprepared for his own course. Lectures consisted of him reading from bad slides with typed out equations and no explanation but were pretty much necessary for iClicker
If you at least do all the assignments you should finish with AT LEAST a C. This class is very overwhelming and I did not understand most things that were being taught. His way of teaching is to read off of the confusing, typed out slides and he often asks if anyone has questions but the class is so lost that they don't know what questions to ask.
Dr. Uchoa's lectures are less lectures and more 50-minute sessions where he reads overly complicated content off of horribly formatted slides and refuses to explain it. He leaves out crucial info for HW and tests that you need to read the textbook for. He does not respond to emails and truly doesn't care whether you pass. No partial credit either.
This has definitely been the worst professor I ever had. If I could give him a 0 I would but it is easy to pass the class with a C. His exams are not similar to the HW. He does not care about the students at all and neither if you give him reasons through email.
This was the worst class I had to take at OU. Bruno's lecture slides were unorganized and hard to follow, with most of the "example work" being a jumble of formulas and numbers. The homework and recitation problems were also more complex than anything we went over in class, with the TAs even making remarks. I learned more on YouTube than in class.
NEVER TAKE THIS GUY EVER. EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. if you do not believe me... go ahead. DOOOOOOOOOOO NOOTTTTTTTT TAAAAKKKKEEEE. let me repeat myself. NEVER TAKE THIS GUY EVER. EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. if you do not believe me... go ahead. DOOOOOOOOOOO NOOTTTTTTTT TAAAAKKKKEEEE.
Man I took this guy a year ago and just had nightmare flashbacks about his class. DO NOT TAKE
