He's motivated and relatively a fair grader! Show interest and brightness!
Dedicated but arrogant.. Was not impressed at all

Dedicated and insightfull. Always helpful to interested students.
Very dedicated teacher and shows a lot of enthusiasm to teach but teaches too slow so miss most of the materials!! Hard grader!!
Best teaher I have had at Concordia. Loves the subject. Hard grader and teaches slow. But overall he is great.
Excellent professor although a little tough with grading.
Excellent teacher. Loves concordia football! Give you good notes.
Very nice guy. No complaints at all. Recommended.
Good teacher, very passionate about the subject and a charismatic speaker.
Very interested in the course he is teaching but seems to have favorites in his class and it is reflected in the way he grades. Get on his good side and you're in or else he will pretend you don't exist and be very uncooperative
Not recommended. He grades unfairly, does not recognize effort, has favorites. If you can switch,do it.....
Very moody. If you do not go the way he like, your grade will go the way he wants :)
very moody. i missed a class, and when i got there next week, nobody is in the class room and nothing on the board.although he said he left a note.after be absent twice, he told me i should drop the course! boring, just read from book. hard marker. avoid ! the worst ever.
Very moody...Hard Exams...Hard Grader...Boooring...your better off just reading the book and not going to but the prob is that he takes attendance...NOT REC>
Nice teacher but you have to be on his good side. VERY HARD MARKER, if there's one word in your explanation that is not to his liking, he'll automatically deduct marks. Classes were pretty interesting and attendance isn't mandatory but he gives pop quizzes.
This teacher is so unprofessional. He has favorites and will grade them better than others for comparable work. Full of himself and ego-centric. His marking scheme is totally subjective... coincides with his favoritism. If you want to do well, be graded for your work and not your name, and learn something about marketing, DO NOT take this teacher.
Self-praising and unprofessional. He is a great marketing teache, but a lousy human being. Your marks will depend on his mood and if your a class pet. Unlike most teachers, your marks will not depend on the work you do. Very biased and generally not a nice guy. Avoid this teacher.
amazing teacher...read the book and do his easy quizzes for free 15 marks...amazing teacher
His classes are boring, disorganized. He is not a fair teacher nor professional.
Terrible and discraceful teacher and human being. He grades based on his mood. This was the worst teacher ever and 1st time I had to DISC course. His lectures are boring and he shows 2-3 useless projector slides. I was forced to DISC due to a corrupted grading. He also said he didn't care. This idiot should not be teaching. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS.
Avoid if you can. He picks favorites and grades them generously. If you're not one of his favorites your grade will suffer. He is very immature for a man in his late 50's early 60's. His classes are boring and useless. It seems he went out of his way not to teach us anything. Unfair marker. Arrogant. Likes his power. Worst I've ever had. FIRE HIM.
I have to disagree with so many comments here. He was one of my favorite teachers at JMSB. Nice guy, entertaining lectures, and if you read the book (like you're suppost to) there's no reason why you shouldn't do good in his class. You also have to work hard on the final project, but that's Business school for 'ya! Marketing majors to take him!
CHAMPION. #1 FOR PROFESSIONAL INCOMPETENCE.
This guy pretends to be "easy" without showing his "tough" side until the final exam. You cheer and applaud for the kindness and careness he pretends to deliver and finally you would find that he is not a fair professor as reputed by all the students. Besides, he is not interested in global issues and does not provide the latest trends in class.
I Loved his classes, i have to admit that it's because of him that i have changed my major from B.Admin To majoring in Marketing
The things he goes over in class is what will be on the exams. Make sure you participate in class and you will get a good mark.

Avoid at all costs!
The worst teacher in JMSB! Unfair marker. Don't take him.
Super nice guy. If you need help, go see him and he'll love you for it. Class was a lot of fun and interactive.
Fantastic teacher!!! One of the best I've had at Concordia. Truly cares about each student, and makes his lectures very interesting.
what a bad teacher he is . You can only get a good grade by the way he accepted. Avoid this professor
Good teacher, lots of experience, knows what he's talking about.
Good prof. Charismatic and keeps lectures interesting... doesn't rely on slides. If you got a bad mark its your own fault for not knowing the textbook well enough, because the prof is not as harsh a grader than what has been said.. at least in my experience.
One of the better prof in the MBA. But be prepaired to work, class is not a cake walk.
Very good teacher, he gets the students involved and takes the time to learn names. The course wasn't particularily difficult. A nice guy, waay better than his brother
Awesome teacher! He was a hard marker, super interesting, knows his stuff in N out! would take him again.
Very nice professor. Easy quiz, just study what he tells you to. Extremely helpful examples. If you pay attention to his "hints" you'll know exactly what will be on the exam. The cases he goes over in class are VERY similar to exam. Attend class, read and study the concepts is the way to go.Ask him for help on your group project and you'll succeed!
Hard grader, expects way too much from students and does not give enough information on what he wants exactly out of your answers. He usually does one big question worth something like 40% of your grade since he does not like to correct exams and takes forever to do so. He's interesting but he grades too harshly.
At last someone who truly TEACHES. He's not another one of those teachers who just read the ppt while yawning at your face. Get ready for an interactive-think-on-your-feet session every class. This is what I came to JMSB for. All teachers should have his method and be as passionate as him. Lots of field experience brought to class. Don't miss out.
Very good teacher, but dumps a lot of work on you and marks you hard on it. Classes are very interesting, but you really have to know what the right answers that he expects are. Don't try and be too creative in your essays- read his handouts, understand what he means, and build your answers around that. I would gladly take another class with him.
He's a fun teacher and makes the lectures as interesting as possible. To do well all you have to do is follow his instruction and understand how to apply what he teaches in class. I ended up with an A in his class and i missed the MRP session worth 5%
A word of advice: If you are not a SERIOUS fan of sports, get out. Be prepared to only talk about hockey and football. Barely any other discussions. It's comm 224 all over again only applied to sports. Not very good at helping students out
Amazing teacher! I understood his lectures perfectly and hes a decent grader. The grade he gives you, you deserve it!
Great teacher! Very helpful. If you work a little bit every week, there is no reason you shouldn't get an A!
A very tough and biased teacher. Very ego-centric. Forge you into the way he likes by means of grading. A teacher living on the theory but no hands on
Very unprofessional, terrible human being. But as common in people like him he touts he's the best.
You'll be working a lot in this class. He is a tough grader. But very knowledgeable and engaging.
Unprofessional and harsh grader..old school teaching
Where to begin...uninteresting, wastes time going over useless stuff, takes too long to hand back assignments (and only clarifies what he wants AFTER you hand them in), and far too much work for quizzes. Avoid this class at all costs...despite the name "Sports Marketing", this class is truly one of the worst marketing electives available.
To Succeed: Good Group, Participate a lot, Discuss via Email with Prof,Put relevant Articles on First Class. Professor: Be prepared to work, but the mark you get is what you deserve. I find only the lazy students complain here. I've worked with lazy students this semester in 491M, they fit your profile of WHINING. Work hard, and you'll do fine
AVOID THIS TEACHER. Acts all nice then gives you tests about things not in the textbook. not helpfull at all and does not hesitate to give you a bad mark. Do not take this teacher
A tough but fair grader, Bryan Barbieri has been consistently helpfull throughout the year. He is always available during office hours and answers e-mails very quickly. Students may be thrown off because he has very high expectancies and that go beyond a purely textbook understanding. Encourages class participation and is funny in class.
Ok the honest truth. I never in my life read the textbook (it's honestly a waste of time). Get your hands on the course slides, read them thoroughly and make notes of them so you understand the main concepts. Easy quizzes, the exams are a bit challenging but if you understand the concepts you'll do great. i got an A and never opened that huge book
He is the best professor that I have ever had.
Excellent professor. Very understanding and provides useful feedback. Recommend!
Very tough teacher (alot of work!) but you will learn alot since he clearly knows his stuff - interesting class. I really liked the class but I had seen the notes about his preferential treatment and I can truly say it is the case.
I just took this class to get rid of marketing as a mandatory course. I ended up changing my profession toward that direction. He teaches Marketing strategic management, not marketing. I learned a lot and enjoyed a lot.
I have to say that looking back at my years of JMSB. This professor was by far the most boring. He clearly does not have any experience, covers useless things, excruciating slow and long lectures where he talks about nothing (but himself). Teachers like this are giving JMSB a bad name. I think it's a shame. We pay for an education, not boredom!
Two words describe this man. Booooorrring! & Useless.
He is nice but you will learn nothing. I honestly do not understand how he is allowed to teach marketing. I agree with the other reviews. STAY AWAY!
Old school teacher. As you listen to him you realize he does not know what he is talking about.
Very fair teacher. I enjoyed his course although the material he was required to teach in 301 was often dry.
Overall a experienced and knowledgeable teacher. He is infantilizing, I felt like I was taking a first year class but he is funny and has very interesting anecdotes. It is a new class, the material is a little repetitive after Comm224(3) but this is not his fault
what can i say, if you want a fair average treatment from a professor pass this guy. he is all talk and no action. very bad lecturer. his lecture has nothing to do with the course materials. spend most of his time talking about good marketing companies and how we student should aspire to work at those companies.
Old school teacher. Treats students like children. Does not teach much in class, you have to do all the work. He loves to make students present in class and take pleasure in asking impossibly difficult questions just to poke holes in the presentation. He takes pleasure in telling students how he created this difficult course. AVOID HIM AT ALL COST
This a new compulsory course, the material is a little repetitive after Comm224(3) and that is the fault of this professor because and this is according to him that he has designed the whole course from the ground up. It is very boring and the prof is no good too at all, evade him if possible
Awful just plain awful, skip this guy he knows nothing in marketing his head is still stuck in the 90's.
I took this course in a different university in montreal (in a better university than Concordia, i might add) took an A, i took this course with him he gave me a B-. He is just an old delusional professor with an attitude. No matter how hard you work it is always not enough for him, it is not worth wasting time with him.
Worst marketing professor at JMSB. Do yourself and your GPA a favour and skip this egotistical professor.
Avoid! He makes the course way more difficult than it needs to be, explains the metrics in the most confusing way. The midterm was on 3 questions, 1 worth 60 pts which caused more than half the class to fail. Gives endless readings, boring cases/presentations, 4 assignments & participation is worth 15%! TOO MUCH WORK and not enough credit.
If you hate talking in class, avoid him. Participation counts more than midterm. Long lectures. Too many readings per class.
Strongly disliked this course throughout the semester. Wish I had taken another professor, he makes you read a number of extremely long articles that are outdated (2007-2010), and then the final exam questions you on about maybe 3-4 of them. Marketing has evolved since then, yet he hasn't updated his curriculum in years. Assigns complicated cases.
Bryan is very approachable and kind, however his classes are quite long and there is a lot of reading involved. He doesn't discuss the readings much so you don't know what to expect on the final and he doesn't explain the math. I had to review other teacher's materials.
Just avoid this teacher at all costs.
He is a good guy, yet I didn't learn anything from this class. Lectures are pointless seeing as we don't discuss much of the readings but rather ramble along. You are expected to participate but there is nothing to say really. I would say go for another teacher, way to much work for what you get at the end.
Not up to date with contemporary marketing.
It felt like an undergrad course. toomuch focus on exam questions... and his final was strange. (asks you to come up with answers for few marketing questions, no collaboration between students is expected.) so, you dont know if you were working towards getting right answers. all fluff.. his lectures were entertaining and loooonggggg....
He's an extremely nice guy, always willing to help and answer questions during or after class. Compared to other MARK301 profs, he grades much harder on assignments. During lectures, he rambles and the material is extremely dull. Just be sure to read the online texts thoroughly; everything for the final is taken from the readings.
Learned nothing new or applicable. Course material a mix of Mark 301-302-305 w/ sports as examples. Prof was nice, but was all over the map in lectures, & didn't know half of what he was trying to say (recommend fact checking when spews hot takes). Exams are extremely specific, classes are vague. TOO MANY ADDITIONAL READINGS
Inspirational prof. Dynamic speaker. Very critical and demanding. Gives exam questions at the beginning of semester, which by no means guarantees that you'll know how to answer them by the end. Get prepared to work and read a lot.
One of the worst prof's I've ever had. Rude when you don't answer the correct answer. Rambles on for the first 1.5 hours about why the topic he is going to talk about is important. Once he gets the topic he barely knows what he's talking about. Tests have nothing to do with course material. Around 4 readings to do per class along with assignments.
I really enjoyed his sports marketing class. He is a fair grader and his class discussions are always interesting. Like most marketing classes if you show up to class, participate, and do the work youll be fine
Took Bryan's Sports Marketing course and loved it. Had great guest speakers (Marketing Director of F1 & Montreal Canadiens) and kept everyone engaged + interested. If you do the weekly readings and participate, you'll do fine. He reminds me a little bit of Brent Pearce. You have a cheat sheet for the final + he give the questions in advance!
Not a prof I would recommend for MARK301. He's not bad, but he's not that good either for this subject. Nice guy but he rambles on a lot during his lectures (which are 3 hours long, by the way - way too long) about why the class is important rather than teaching the material itself. Pretty tough of a grader too, and expects a lot of participation.
Probably the worst lecturer I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. His knowledge of technical marketing is pretty good but he has no idea what he wants from the students. He says he does not grade on a bell curve but says his marks are respective of other students in class. His lectures are like 3 hour monologues. Horrendous
SKIP this guy at all costs. One of the few dinosaurs around JMSB. His materials are outdated and you won't learn anything new and relevant. Very rude sometimes, marking is random, expects to read a lot of articles before class along with the heavy assignments. Participation matters a lot which is the only good thing in his class.
Classic case of a prof with tenure who can't change with the times. Cannot use zoom properly, sends dozens of emails, his Moodle is a mess and he teaches calculations in his course by showing his face, and nothing more. He creates a midterm that does not reflect the problems given, and piles on assignments, and engagement work during midterm week.
Very disorganized prof. Will separate the instructions for the assignments in 5 different places (emails, instructions doc, live unrecorded classes, eval grid, powerpoint). Does not split points very well so it's easy to lose a lot of marks for no reason. Course material isn't particularly difficult but he makes it way harder than it needs to be.
Great if youre looking for Thats Life to be your only help or feedback. Exams are not reflective of any materials offered for practice, emails and Moodle are disorganized beyond belief, and grading is absolutely awful with terrible feedback. Hell also probably threaten to take off more grades if you complain. Pandemic? Thats life.
Worse marketing class I've taken in all my 3 years, I would suggest you avoid at all cost! The prof seems caring at first but he is very unhelpful. He barely taught anything, he kept rambling about random stuffs. There are not much materials to learn from to be prepared for the final. He's a very random and tough grader.
The most unorganized professor ever. I'm partially convinced he did not grade all the material and estimated the grades.
His classes very likely translate better in an in person setting. Online, his lectures seem to feel even longer and the workload is obviously a bit much, although he does give a warning. Still, it is more than you would think. Avoid if you can, even though he is a nice guy. No satisfaction when finishing the class, just relief its over.
If you don't put effort into the assignments and readings, your grade will reflect that. He's very helpful if you reach out outside of class, which I highly recommend doing because it helps understand what he looks for in terms of graded materials. Classes can be lecture heavy, but he brings in amazing guest speakers and is overall super nice.
Although he seems like a nice guy at first, this is probably THE hardest grader I've ever had in my academic career. Assigns 5 readings per week (of 10 pages each), lengthy assignments due every 2 weeks, gigantic group project, midterm, and final. Just so you know how tough he grades, I got every answer right on my midterm, yet got a 55. AVOID!
Rambles off topic and gets frustrated when you answer wrong. Most condescending person I've seen on planet earth.
I studied the whole term for this class, worked so hard still my grade didnt reflect that hes a very tough grader and will cut even marks without any reason. Although hes super helpful but be prepared to put in a lot of work
Mr. Barbieri fosters group projects and promotes the students assistance to conferences from referents of the Sports Marketing industry. He is both passionate and strict.
This guy is a piece of work. Takes attendance TWICE in class, nit picks on minute details in papers or criticizes the entire thing generally without providing specific information. He also assigns a lot of readings, as if his students have no other classes to take. This man takes what should be an enjoyable class and sucks all the fun out of it.
This teacher has no idea what he's doing or how to teach. He's out of touch with modern teaching styles. No explanations for grades and nit picks every detail.
