Definately the best.... easy tests, makes class FUN!!!!
Very animated, dry humor, well read, fun lectures, and very kind man and prof..
Excellent prof, seems to know material and is able to help you to understand. HR
only bad thing is he talks about his kid ALOT
Very good teacher!
Great guy, fun. Stories about his kids helped us understand child dev. better.
very intelligent caring prof. highly recommend!
readings are minimal explains well some tendency to go on & on very nice helpful
he's a real funny guy, very likable
I ACED the class but did not enoy the instruction!
Thanks for the F!
Tests inconsistent, don't know what to study. Couldn't speak clearly.
.Didn't know what to study for tests.Boring lectures, class time/lecture useless
Bias opinions, lacks clairity, huge ego, weak and dull lectures, humanistic
closed minded, poor lectures and weak tests
Bryan is a much nicer person than most I've met at GVSU
Pointless class! I learned no more than common sense dictates. Closed minded.
very nice guy, helpful,funny,knowlegeable
I sense some passive agression in his essay questions.
Good prof. Kinda' boring. Good stories.
Easy, Clear, and Willing to bend so you get a good grade
Great guy! Have to say that I love the class. Tests are easy :)
very nice, interesting, easy tests!!
great guy, awesome prof, easy on the eyes. Very knowledgable.
Easy, flexible. Very wry sense of humor
Talks about his kids a lot but relates it to the topic.
great professor, may get boring, but he is really nice and cares Thanks for the
2nd time taking this course. 1st with this prof. I actually learned a lot
He knows what he's talking about- Great Australian type accent
Will give you his arm, he's so helpful and a hottie
Class time was not useful, not sure what to study for the tests. Not very organi
Interesting class, nice and helpful professor.

nice guy, book didn't relate well to lectures, likes 2 laugh but is boring
Nice prof. Test are lecture based so pay attention!
Very nice guy, always willing to help and very understanding

Brian has a very laid back approach to teaching, non-traditional. Makesyou think
Wonderful teacher. Tests are lecture based. Not really clear on what tests will be on so prepare for the worst. Easy papers and essays. Nice guy, easy to get along with and willing to help. One of the best psych profs Ive had at GVSU
He is not clear at all on what papers are about. he did not start teaching until the end of class when we had half of the original students it sucked. The class would have been easy if he had just been clear on assignments and test.
he's a great professor, and a very nice guy. he's very helpful, but he can be a little bit confusing sometimes. I think that he is a very good professor, and I would recommend and student interested in psychology take him.
Great Prof, willing to go the extra mile to help students, cares how you do in class, tests lecture based, take notes
Awesome teacher. Extremely helpful, understanding and really cared how you did. Would really recommend!
Has to miss class alot because of young family. Tests aren't always clear but he curves the tests and makes sure you're getting decent grades. Nice friendly guy.
Best prof I've had here! Definitely recommend the class...he's funny and you learn a great deal from him
very nice person - he seems so genuine - makes you think - do the work and dont miss class and you'll be fine
His tests can be hard, but he does his best to explain the material in class... although a lot of stuff on the tests isn't gone over in class. He'll go on and on and give lots of examples about one specific topic... gets a little boring, but it's helpful
lectures are kinda boring. tests are all from book material. get practices tests online from book company! huge term paper for class!
The class was built around discussion and critical thinking, not testing. Grading was very generous.
Best prof on campus. Extremely helpful, actually seems to care.
Great prof! Seemed to care and understand students. Subjects were interesting and class easy to follow. Only 2 exams and no required text!
Although, he is very nice, class drags on and on, and is extrememly boring. Tests are hard to know what to study for, but he is always willing to help you do better. 20 page term paper sucks!
He discusses and is interested in your opinion. He works hard not to offend anyone on sensitive subjects. He is nice and caring and will talk with you if you need to. Ten two page papers and two exams.
He's very nice and pretty easy. He likes to ramble one for days and days with one subject and never get anything that says on the syllabus done. Tests can be very hard but he lets you redo them. VERY boring.
Really liked class discussion. Not that many points offered in the semister, but it's not hard to get a good grade. Just keep with the work and go to class.
Professor Bolea is very funny. The test were a little hard to prepare for because there is no book for this class and he hardly ever writes notes on the board. Boaring subject but great and funny guy.
This guy keeps it entertaining with his sense of humor! He lays everything you have to do out for you, you just need to buckle down and do the work. Not an easy class per say, but he cares about his students and is readily available to answer questions.
very nice guy, lectures are laid back and interesting. lets you know what will be on tests. fun class, i'd recommend it.
He is very nice and tries to be helpful but the tests are pretty hard. Most classes we just talked about current events and tests were over a lot of uncovered material. Term paper was long but not real hard if you didn't wait til the night before.
Very nice and pretty cute. But he grades so hard. There is no text so it is hard to study. Grade in class seems to be based on how well you can debate, be sure and take good notes.
Nice guy, average teacher. Luckily, he tells you what pages to study for the test because you have no idea what he's lecturing about.
Only two tests, and some short papers. Not many points offered so you have to do well on the tests and they are very hard, and he grades them hard too. He however is a good teacher, the course itself is just a bad one.
Very good looking ladies:) Great Prof very helpful and funny. I got an A, just go to class and listen to what he has to say, easy to go when you can look at him:)
This class is a bit boring, but it is easy. He is clear, helpful, and hot. Not much reading. Just 3 exams and a paper. The paper takes a while, so don't procrastinate. Take good notes and go to class and you'll be fine.
Make sure to stay awake in his class. Not many points so stay on top of things. Talk to him, hes a great prof outside of class.
Prof. Bolea has a good sense of humor, and is a nice professor, but his class was very difficult. He only grades you out of 150 points, so it makes it very hard for you to get a decent grade unless you do extremely well on the tests. Not always clear on what he'll be testing you on.
The things he teaches are easy concepts, mostly common sense, but there are only 2 tests worth 50 pts. So, once you miss about 3 or 4 questions on one test you're already failing the class and have no chance of recovery. Class can seem dull most of the time.
Bryan is a great guy. If you have any questions he is very willing to answer them. The class is tough because there is no book and only 150 points possible, so if you miss a few points your in a bit of trouble. 10 journals worth 5pt each, so a very easy 50 points.Know your notes very well for exams!
Great guy. Very approachable and helpful. Great sense of humor, a doll. His class is lecture, take good notes. Loved the class, flunked the first exam, yikes but passed with a B. Would love to take another class with him as the Prof.
I didn't really like this class. His tests were impossible because it would be over at least 150 pages in the book, and it would be like 10 M.C. questions and a couple essay questions. You never knew what would be on test. There weren't many points in class, so it was easy to get a bad grade.
Dry as dust. Lecture only, very little interaction and discussion. Tests difficult. 1/3 of class failed first test. Very few points to earn for class so easy to get low grade. Usually straight A student so quite unhappy about this. I'd drop a class in the future if he ended up as professor.
He's is a lot of fun and he cute, the work isn't to hard and you can easly get an A with you work at it.
He does a good job, although sometimes he just doesn't explain stuff in the most detail.
He is a great teacher. He is really hot too, fyi. His tests are easy as long as you pay attention in class and take really good notes. He is a really funny guy too, he cracks the whole class up sometimes.
Very nice guy-class was fun to go to. I learned alot of useful information-class was alot of discussion which made it fun. do go to class to get notes-tests aren't easy, but I did fine b/c I studied. Great Prof!
Nice guy, dull class. He's dry. Class is pretty easy if you attend and take notes.
HOT, HOT, HOT is all I can say ladies. It was easy to go to class with a prof like that. Looks aside, the class was interesting and very easy. I didn't spend much time out of class and got an A in the class. I would recommend him, if your bord just look at him and you will be happy again. :)
test questions are tricky, theres usually more than one answer that would work. essays are hard b/c he expects you to explain in great detail but he never covered the topic in great detail. not enough points in class, he dosen't care about the grades.
HE IS AWESOME! He is funny and laid back and he is very fair with grading and exams! He doesn't try to trick you with tests. He lectures a lot, but it all VERY interesting and I am taking him again in the future. TAKE HIM!
This guy is way laid back! He's super nice and interesting to listen to. The only problem is that the grade is based on 3 tests and a paper, so you have to do good on them. Show up to class and take notes, otherwise you'll fail. He's really nice though! I liked him a lot!
This class was alot of fun. His lectures were much more interesting than in PSY 301. Class frequently ended up with a lot of discussion. Very easy A.
I loved the class, Got an A. HE was really nice and funny!I am taking him again in the winter! YAY! Also he is cute!
Hilarious and very entertaining, but be prepared to pay careful attention to his lectures. This is what's on the test. Show up to class, pay attention, and take good notes. Is obsessed with the name Ralph... if someone knows why, please post it.
This professor explains things very well and tries to make sure that people understand what he is talking about.
freaking easy. he's really laid back about everything. you don't even have to do all the journals he assigns and he'll still give you an a for them. "benifit of the doubt" teacher
"He's hot"??? He's a married man in his mid 30's w/ two kids-& very much looks the part of "Dad", NOT hot! His lectures were very interesting, but VERY unorganized. I never knew what to take notes on b/c he constantly jumped around topics. I compared notes w/ others, & we never had the same info! If you're a careful listener, go for it-if not, run!
very good teacher!! Easy to listen to, interesting. If you don't understand something, just ask...he'll explain it. In order to do well, you have to go to class...not a lot of outstide work is required. I highly recommend him!!!
Prof Bolea was a good prof. He doesn't have a book for his 302 class but that means you really have to listen in lecture because that is what is on the exams. Not having a book can be tough though because you don't know what to take notes on in class. Journals are easy. Tests are challenging. Study hard for them and go to class!
No book, which seems like it would be good but makes tests HARD. No clue what to take notes on, thought I did great on the first test and ended up with a 42%. Unorganized. Did help us out w/ the final in giving us an option to get an automatic 80%, which saved my grade sort of. Overall I would not recommend. Nice guy..just hard.
No book...take lots of notes in class and you'll be fine. Some topics more interesting than others. I would take him again.
Good prof, talks alot about general ideas and wants students to form their own opinions. Doesn't give notes and doesn't use a book, you have to go to class.
His lecture methods are confusing since he doesn't really follow the book all that closely. Therefore, attending class is important. However, he is clear about what you need to know and offers chances for redemption (extra credit) if you screw up too bad. Only thing is, he's not easy to get ahold of.
Very easy. Make sure to take notes, his tests are right off from his lecture. Would recommend.
Very understanding prof. Truly cares about his students. He really made an impact on me and my career as an educator. Thank you so much!!!!
I took this as a summer class and it was alot better than I expected it to be. You can tell he is really passionate about what he teaches and just wants his students to do well. Encourages questions and particpation and makes what could be a boring class interesting. Very understanding and nice guy, I would definately take him again. He's cute too!
For some reason, he reminds me of House. He has a very soothing voice, so be careful of that. He also has ADHD which leads to awesome "off-topic" discussions, as well as occasionally not getting things back right away. Test can be hard b/c he doesn't give out study guides. I would definately take another class with him though.
Great professor; does not rely on textbook or Powerpoint slides as a crutch. Very knowledgable. Interesting classes
Interesting class that I saw no relevance in for Special Education majors. Professor Bolea was a great guy though and very knowledgeable. No textbook (which was great) just dont save 6 journal reflections until the night before, it sucks!
Great personality, interesting and sometimes funny.
This prof. was great! He is a very knowledgeable and positive person and really cares about his students. I would definetly reccomend him!
Boring class. You suppose to buy a textbook but don't use it. You have to come to class to be able to do well on the class. He lectures and you try to keep up with what he says.
I recommend this professor
Nice guy, boring class. He has interesting stories about psychology, but since this was just a gen-ed class, my interest level just wanst very high. whole grade was based on 3 exams, 40pts each, so if you get a C on one, its pretty much impossible to get an A. Some interesting moments, but im glad its over.
NO BOOK! But go to class and take lots of notes!!!
TAKE THIS PSY 302! The course was great, surrounded by the concept of myths in US culture. Take lots of notes (there is no book), they will help you on your midterm and finals. You are asked to complete 10 2 page journal assignments. Don't wait until the last minute. Good humored, nice, helpful professor, great course. Challenges your assumptions.
It would help if we used a book, because he goes off topic a lot. Which makes him end class late sometimes. If you miss class, you're screwed because he doesn't post anything on blackboard. He's nice and pretty funny though. He also helps bad test takers by having us turn in papers to boost our grades.
Professor was very helpful and lectures were interesting. You can tell that he really enjoys his job.Come to class, exams are over material directly from lecture and they are all essay.Great content and very relevant.
He's Okay..tests were all multiple choice. Attendance not mandatory. Super nice guy, just not very interesting class. Tells you what sections to read in book in order to do well on MC but tests are still difficult..very specific ?s.
Bryan is an awesome Prof. He makes his classes fun and tells you what you need to know on the exam. If you don't attend class you will be screwed because he gives the students that attend class an advantage on the tests. If you show interest and show up to class you'll get an A!
Great Professor! Gets students involved in class with interesting lecture topics and discussions. Exams aren't too hard and there aren't many assignments in class. I would highly recommend this professor :)
This was a great class, but not at all like the catalog makes it out to be. Fantastic reading selections and video choices, and Bryan is brilliant and has a vested interest in the material. YOU HAVE TO SHOW UP even though its not required to have any idea of what's going on. Don't blow this off if you take it.
Really easy class. Attendance not mandatory. Two essay/opinion style exam and 10 2 pages papers you have the whole semester to do to and are opinion as well. He's kind of funny too.
Easy class. You have to show up because it is only lecture. He does not post anything on blackboard and does not have slides. It's not what the course description states. The class itself was boring but it's worth the easy A. Bryan's cool too.
He really was interested int he material he was teaching, interested in helping students understand and to prepare students for future career. Loved his class
Essay questions were totally unclear and couldn't comprehend them...
I love him and his class. I wish I could take him again! Very caring and enthusiastic. Very clear on what he wants you to take away from the class. Come to class and you'll get an A. Take him if you can!
Prof. Bolea is a pretty cool guy. He seems kind of timid and tells cheesy jokes sometimes but he keeps it real. Chill dude. He's not too hard on the eyes either. No textbook so attendance is mandatory if you want to understand anything. Only a midterm and final exam, all essays.
He seems to know what he is talking about, but is so unclear in what he wants in essay questions. He gives out reviews before exams but the study questions don't match the actual exam. He gave out two take home exams, but grades hard and doesn't make it clear what he's looking for. Doesn't respond to emails either...
He seems to know what he is talking about, but is so unclear in what he wants in essay questions. He gives out reviews before exams but the study questions don't match the actual exam. He gave out two take home exams, but grades hard and doesn't make it clear what he's looking for. Doesn't respond to emails either...and never answers questions..
Great teacher, he explains a lot. Easy class. He makes a study guide on things you should know. On exams, if there was a question on there he didnt talk about, he'll throw it out. Very easy going class and professor. Take psy 301 with him!
This class is very interesting but Dr. Bolea needs to get on top of his game. It took him 3 weeks too get us this sylubus in the beginning of the year and he always made promisses he had a hard time keeping such as posting reviews and hading back tests. The guy loves to talk. The class is based on four tests and an observation paper
Never returned any of my emails, syllabus was messed up, constantly breaking promises and took forever to grade tests. If you do take his class, get a recorder. The book is almost useless, just study your notes like crazy. Tests are hard, he is a hard grader. I felt like I was fighting against a brick wall the entire semester.
Seems more interested in research & application of child development & psychology than the textbook material. Classtime was used to talk about research & how it affects development, schooling etc. 4 exams based on class notes 1 observation paper. Easy class if you attend & take good notes, but may be dissatisfied with material-not bad though.
(psy325 too) I don't know what all these bad reviews are about. He is one of the easier professors I've had. He gives some take home tests, some extra credit,& reviews for the tests. This is college; how much more do you want? You don't even really have to read the book. I found it really helpful because I skipped a lot, but it's not necessary.
I took Brian for Child Development then heard he was teaching 302 so I took that class as well. VERY EASY PROF! If you go to class everyday and participate you will get an A. Save your money on the book. He might be a bit scatterbrained but it keeps you on your toes. TAKE ANY CLASS YOU CAN WITH HIM!
I had him for 301/325. I couldn't stand it. They are easy class periods, but the exams aren't easy at all. Very specific. he doesn't post notes at all and just tells stories- you have to find the info. He doesn't use the book at all either. Really awful about emailing back or getting exams back. Nice guy and normal dad, but unorganized class.
Great Prof. Lots of stories and examples that make the material easy to remember. If you actually study his test are pretty easy.. don't think you know everything tho because it is "deceptitvely hard" Offered Extracredit for weekly quizzes on tumblr story topics. Very entertaining!
All lecture-based. Need to attend class in order to pass. Textbook is not necessary. Total class is out of 120 points (although ours was only 80) no practice available only exam. Prof is very unorganized and doesn't answer questions. i won't not recommend.
Professor Bolea is great! His class is extremely interesting and he literally gives you everything you need to know in class. If you take great notes you will get an A. The book is not necessarily needed, but may help with some of his minor clarity issues. With that the class is not technically "easy" but he gives you every chance to succeed.
I liked Professor Bolea and this course. Really unstructured lecture style, so be sure to take good notes; as long as you do that, you'll do fine on the exams (so don't skip lecture). You only have 4 grades; 3 exams and a paper. Bryan is super nice though and will help you if you need it. Textbook not needed.
Does have notes/power points/ANYTHING. Only lectures and tells stories unrelated to material making it impossible to pass the class. I attended every class, took great, detailed notes, and did all things necessary to pass just about any class and still managed to get a 54% on his first exam. The rest of the exams were not much better. DO NOT TAKE!!
Lectures were boring and had no structure what soever, it was impossible to take notes. The writing assignments were pointless and exams were hard. I probably could have done better in the class if prof boleas lectures weren't so hard to follow.
Still not clear how lectures related to adjustment other than our last class about adjusting to inevitable lifelong stress, but I REALLY enjoyed him. So kind and helpful, a genuine person. Lectures were something not used to but it was super easy if you have knowledge of psychology. Look for the big picture in lecture stories. 2 easy exams, 10 hw.
Very nice guy but lectures are very boring. You really have to make sure you stay focused so you can take good notes. Attend class! Only grades were the exams which was frustrating. But if you take decent notes, you will be just fine.
All lecture, very loose structure. If you're sociable and enjoy engaging topics instead of memorizing information, this is the prof for you. He mostly works using stories and examples, leading classroom discussions. Grade mostly come from essays. Be personable, you'll do great. He's also a great mentor, talk to him after class.
I will definatly take him again if he teaches anything else in psych. his lectures dont have powepoints so you have to pay attention in class which i didnt think i would like but i absolutly love. he gives funny examples so you remember what hes trying to teach you. test are super easy. basically no homework or reading from the book.
Professor Bolea is amusing to say the least. Sometimes he seems to drone on and on about the given topic for the day, but he is very passionate about what he teaches and the man knows what he's talking about. You generally will not need the book for the class but attendance is a must because all the information is given verbally in class.
Go to class, take notes and pass! Don't need the book. No homework or assignments, just 3 tests. His lectures are pretty interesting. Nice, funny guy. Easy A! I would take him again definitely.
Lectures are tough to get used to because he uses no powerpoints and can get on tangents sometimes. Attendance is a must if you want to pass. Only grades for the class are 3 tests. Take advantage of his office hours, he is super helpful when you ask for helpclarification.
All he does is lecture and doesn't give you an outline or a PowerPoint to follow. Everything on the tests is from lecture and the second semester I had him I didn't even by the book. Only grades on three 40 point tests and for 301 an additional 30 point paper so go to class. I liked his classes but not all do. You must go to class or you will fail.
Professor Bolea does not provide any type of PowerPoint, all notes that you take come directly from him lecturing; therefore, it is very important to attend class. I did not use the book in this class, however, it may be useful to some. Three exams are given and one observation/research paper. Prof. Bolea is a really nice guy and genuinely cares.
He is very nice and funny. Lectures are long and boring. He only lectures so no power points. You have to take notes to pass. I would buy the book so you can read. He would give a review sheet (not long, just basic overview) of what would be on the test. Only 3 tests and a paper so TAKE NOTES.
Professor Bolea truly cares about his students success! This was an easy class if you go, listen to the lectures and take good notes. He does not use powerpoints but the lectures are easy to follow and then he gives you review and organizing questions and topics for the exams. I would definitely take another class with him! He's also pretty funny!
The tests aren't hard if you take good notes. He genuinely wants you to succeed and will help with any material that you're having a hard time with.
Love Bolea, but your grade is composed of 3 exams and one paper. The exams are pretty opinionated but they're multiple choice, so it makes things super confusing. If a bunch of people go up to ask questions about one in particular, he'll just give you the answer so ASK QUESTIONS. Lectures are without powerpoint so make sure to stay focused.
Good professor, it's a shame he is leaving Grand Valley after this semester. I learned a lot this semester.
