Plain and Simple, Dr. Buckley. He is a man who is VERY interested in economics. He tells you what is on the midterms, because his lectures are structured around them. TA Wkshts are helpful for FRQ on midterms and online HW is for Multiple Ch. Coming to the midterms, they were fairly simple. Overall, Dr. Buckley does his job and does it well.
He cares about his students and actually TEACHES. Recommend him if you actually care about learning.
He really tries to make class fun but I just find intermediate microecon super boring. The 1.5 hour lectures are too long and I literally stopped going to class after the first midterm. Tests aren't too bad but you need to study really hard if you don't go to class. Some say he's easier than Dillani, some find Dillani a better teacher.
Not a bad teacher, but he's a too aligned with rules. I accidentally missed the final for my section, asked if I could take the final with the other section, denied me. Thought that was a little harsh especially when I explained to him I was a senior and needed the course to graduate. If you take him, be sure to keep up to date with class.
Multiple attempts for homework. You can definitely get 100% on homework. Tests are not hard at all, as long as you read the lectures and do the weekly practices. He posts all the needed material.
He posts all the needed material. You can skip lectures and discussions. However, do the weekly practices and read the lecture to get yourself ready for the test.
Swaggy B is dope. Tests are decently hard, final was impossible. Homework is the easiest 30% you'll ever get. Take Vazquez for the easy A, take Buckley (or DIianni apparently) if you want to learn.
Bombed the first exam. studied the practice exams in the practice book, got 98s on the next two. My final exam grade is unknown, but I got an A in the course. Do the homework, pay attention in class and do not fall behind.
Professor Buckley is great. I find econ boring but he's great at explaining things and making lectures interesting. He always finds a way to tie in real life situations with the example problems and show how certain economic decisions affect us. You can tell he really cares about his students and teaching. Exams aren't hard if you go to lecture.
Great lecturer, is extremely clear in presenting the material and goes through many different examples on the power points he posts online with step by step instructions on how to solve it. Always goes into great detail on questions and is passionate about the material. Only downside is there's little interaction with students
He is one of the best econ professors here. The lectures are actually really helpful and he is great at explaining things. Tests are not tricky if you go to the lectures and discussions. Buckley is the man
Does the best he can with lectures given the dry material. Homework is a piece of cake and worth a decent amount of the overall grade. Be sure to pay attention in lecture and do the practice problems, as the test a based very closely off of these.
VERY boring lecture (especially when they are longer than 50min) but overall his exams are fair. Homework will take about 10 minutes to complete so make sure you are actually learning the material as you go along and not cram everything before the test.
He is a good teacher and has incorporated some good teaching techniques in order to make the material interesting and clear cut. His ECON 302 Final was tricky but his mids are medium hard, few small tricks to keep you on your toes. He is a good teacher who has embraced tech (lectures slides odf) and personality to make learning smoother.
SUPER EASY! Just do the some problems on the workbook and review the lecture notes before test you will be find. He really gave so many extra credits like 5%. I got an 95 on this course but end up with a 100% because of the extra credit.
Easy A+ class. The lectures are long and boring but you do not need to attend them. Work on his past exams in the workbook and you will do well in the class. It is easy to get 100% on the homework and he also gives a lot of extra credit.
Buckley is a great guy. In his class there are 4 exams (1 final). If you want you can skip all 3 exams except the final, it just puts all the weight on the final. If you are someone who skips lectures but is willing to study before the exam, do the practice exams they are just like the final. 100% on the homework is so easy, and its 30% of ur grade
Buckley is a decent teacher but wastes so much time in lecture talking about the simplest concepts. However, the tests are difficult and full of tricky questions. He does not curve tests. He lets you skip tests, but that is a poor strategy, and I have no clue why he offers it. He goes off on tangents about his opinions. Be ready to teach yourself
Bryan isn't the most exciting lecturer, but he is good at explaining the material. Class is optional and he posts all of the lectures online. If you take his class, I recommend doing the extra credit mastery points on the homework site.
Professor Buckley is a fantastic lecturer. If you go to class and the discussion sections a majority of the time and do the workbook problems, you'll get an A. He's also accessible outside of class if you need any help. He genuinely cares about his students.
He thoroughly explains simple concepts but does not prepare you for the super difficult exams. He offers LOTS of extra credit and the online homework is super easy.
ECON 302 is just not a hard course. I found his lecture quite tedious because he digs on to something really easy, but doesn't cover that much important stuff (like he has 50 slides of doing derivatives but just skims through important concepts).
He's a good professor who definitely is very passionate about the subject, but the class was way too basic and easy, especially since you get so many practice exams that are very close to the exams.
He actually cares about students - there's just so many in this class that it's hard to really connect with him in any meaningful way. He makes economics fun. If you pay attention in class, do the extra credit, and use the study booklet you should have a fairly easy A.
He is incredibly enthusiastic and energetic. He is a great lecturer, even though the material itself is really boring. Try to go as often as you can because he will often include really interesting historical segments regarding the subject at hand. I did not go to office hour, but he seems like a very kind and approachable guy.
I thought this class would be an easy A, it wasn't. Buckley is good teacher, but the lectures are dry and hard to focus on. I 1000% recommend getting the notes packet and not slacking. Do as much of the extra credit as you can and study! Discussion was optional, but I advise that you go.
Do the extra credit each time you do a homework assignment so you don't have to cram it all in later. Went to class probably three times. Wasn't a good idea because I had to study for like 30 hours to have any idea what was going on on the practice final exams in the book. And the final was way harder than the other exams. Still got an A tho
Excellent teacher!!!
One of the best professors I have had. He gives so much material to get you ready for all the exams and the final exam as well.
Hes okay. He is good at teaching what is going to be on the test but his political views on business regulations are extreme.
He should more time explaining the math portion.
ECON302,482,490 - One of my favorite econ professors at UIUC. The classes he teaches all follow a very similar format. The workbook(302) is very helpful as it has sample tests/exercises that resemble the exams in class. There was extra credit in all his classes. Lectures may sometimes be dry, but he is very passionate and is just an awesome guy.
If you buy the workbook, you'll basically be set for the course. You can study the practice tests in the workbook for the midterms and final. Overall, decent professor.
exam is so hard
Lectures are very boring with a lot of extraneous info. There are a lot of materials to study and learn from. Definitely go to discussion and buy the work book and you'll do fine. Lectures as aren't totally necessary but at least study the slides
He is clearly smart and knows what he is talking about, but his teaching style is just not very good for a large lecture. His powerpoints are endless and not very helpful. But the hardest part is that there is little homework and it does not correlate to the tests at all. The practice tests are somewhat helpful, but more practice is needed to prep.
Great guy, very passionate, go to lecture and get the workbook and you will do great as well as learn a lot about econ.
I wouldn't recommend taking his Econ 302 course, unless you have no other choice. Take a different professor's Econ 302 course if you can! Professor Buckley does somewhat of an okay job going over the math used in the course, but does not go over any of the conceptual stuff. Overall, he does not teach this course well, at all. He's not a good prof.
Buckley is a great guy. His lectures can be dry but he does bring in interesting real-world examples. The class is very test-heavy but they aren't very difficult. Make sure to do all the extra credit and practice the math problems before the tests.
Some of the pros of this course include the practice exams and extra credit opportunities. That being said, while the professor is very passionate about what he teaches, the lecture format of the class is extremely boring and very ineffective at teaching. In addition, the lack of frequent homework assignments makes studying difficult.
The class is test heavy, every test (there are 3 plus a final) is about 20% of your overall grade. If you don't do good on the exams, don't expect to pass. You get graded on a few things: exams, math, *concepts, and *vocab. In the lecture we don't learn, we all just follow the examples on the slides. Lots of sleepers, he's truly boring. Never again
I took Econ 302 with Buckley last year and will be taking Environmental Economics this semester. One of the classes I'm looking forward to the most. Actually I look forward to all my Econ classes next semester :P
Homework is graded for accuracy. TIme-consuming class, lectures are posted in video format but are filled with irrelevant material. Exam material is relatively easy but is made unnecessarily more difficult due to course structure. All exams are proctored making the class unnecessarily expensive.
Such a good professor. I took micro in hs and didnt do well, but I am passing this class with flying colors. My favorite professor. 10/10
DO NOT take this class if it is not required. If taking, be prepared to take weekly. quizzes. Also, lectures are him going over his slides, so feel free to miss. Exams are hard because they are all application problems . My advice is to study the definitions so you can easily apply them to problems. There is a lot of extra credit tho.
Professor Buckley is by far one of the best professors I have met on campus. His lectures are very easy to understand & he certainly has a passion for the topic. I took Microeconomics in Fall of 2021, & I would recommend him to anyone needing to take Micro. Attend the lectures/do the extra credit he offers, it adds up & can totally save your grade!
Econ 102 is a very easy class in general. Prof. Buckley is an easy grader and his slides are easy to understand.
Professor Buckley excels at presenting his information in lectures, keeping us engaged and being very straight forward with exam content. If you do the weekly assignments the questions are near exact to exam content. Extra credit is abundant and he will make accommodations if you ask him early enough. lecture slides are posted online with answers.
This class is incredibly test heavy, 70% of your total grade is based on exams. There are weekly quizzes, 4 of which were dropped for my class. There is a decent amount of extra credit. The exams are optional in the sense that if you feel like you arent solid on the material you can skip it and the weight will be transferred over to the other exams
Econ 102 was very easy. The presentations and many assignments(a lot of easy extra credit) were available on moodle and helped me ace all my tests. Everyone rarely went to the lectures and in the discussions left the class within 10 mins of starting after giving the weekly 5 min test. Its the easiest class. Highly recommend to take this class!
100% recommend taking! Unlimited takes for hw with ample extra credit - take advantage! Buckley's lecture/slides made it very easy to understand the content. Exams very closely mirror hw. If you miss class, everything you need is in the slides and once you take the 5 min quiz for discussion you're good to go.
Overall, Buckley himself is a good professor. He teaches well and I did learn a lot in his class. However, the amount of effort I put into the class did not reflect in my grade. The tests and quizzes were super easy to mess up on, and one little mistake can tank your grade. I really expected myself to get an A in the class.
Pretty easy class. Mr. Buckley is a good lecturer and the subject is actually very interesting. You can do the homework as many times as you need for a perfect score before the due date and if you get the optional workbook it has some very useful practice exams. Exams are also very straightforward without any curveballs/trick questions.
Excellent lecturer for Economics. Anyone with very little knowledge about microeconomic concepts can learn very well from Buckley. Class is also structured very well with homework and tutorial assignments giving ample amount of practice opportunities for students. Exams can have tough questions at times but they are very reasonable.
Lectures are pretty easy to understand but I was drowning in hw and articles to read on top of everything
soooo many quizzes and exams, this class is supposed to be very easy-i took an equivalent at parkland- but the way he teaches and the structure of the course make it hard to pass and keep up.
The class structures are pretty messy and unorganized. Somethings on the syllabus were not true or contradicting itself... Econ 302 used this alternative website called "learn" or "Moodle" instead of canvas and the UI was horrible. Just did not feel the effort / enthusiasm from the professor as much.
The material is thought provoking. He streams using zoom in case you're out sick. The math & models aren't any more complicated than intermediate courses. I didn't make below 94% on any assignment or test. Doesn't require a book; he provides you the slides. He responds to e-mails and is willing to talk outside of class. Few assignments.
Prof Buckley's lectures are just him reading off powerpoints that he posts on Moodle. Everybody shows up to the first two lectures, but later they realize that the lectures were useless and it was just easier to look at his powerpoints online. The rather easy weekly quizzes are nice because they force you to study so that you are not behind.
This professor will teach the basics of Microeconomics and does a very good job at it!
His lectures tend to be boring when he goes off topic. Whenever class is almost over, he will start speaking fast which leads to no time to write down your notes.
Buckley is a fun lecturer, but all of the slides can be found on Moodle so a lot of students don't go. The exams were fair and you can buy a review packet with a practice exam for each midterm and final. The only other work are weekly quizzes (lowest 4 dropped) and assignments with unlimited attempts. Up to 2% easy extra credit is also available.
You do not need to go to lectures. They are pointless and repetitive, I would just do the notes on my own time. During lecture it is hard to hear him, his tone moves up and down and I couldn't seem to understand much. The practice test in his textbook are nothing like the tests, and the tests are nothing like what is learned in class.
easy to understand the material. going to lecture isnt required but always helps. I got by studying for the exams on my own and it was fairly easy to do so. not much homework and he is an easy grader.
Great professor, answers questions thoroughly after class, and also teaches well. Would recommend
Buckley is a great professor, has a great personality, and wants you to succeed. The way the course is organized is excellent and easy to understand. Guided notes during lectures and quick and easy assignments. Exams weren't too hard either. Overall, I wish every class was built this way.
I really enjoy taking his classes! Would love to taking more of his classes!
Lectures were some what boring to listen to and I would often not pay attention. There are weekly assignments and quizzes that taught me the material. The exams were not that bad, but you do need to study for them. Pretty easy extra credit is offered. Buckley's class is very organized, and he gives out follow along notes.
I had a really bad semester when I took this class, but still ended up with a B- with nearly no effort. Attendance for lecture wasn't required when I took it, and he uploads every resource you'll need in Canvas so you can learn everything on your own. Everything is organized extremely well and he even offered tutorials you can do for extra credit.
You can't learn from the lecture and be prepare for so many extra time spending outside the classes. This professor use a very lowering voice to speak in the auditorium, so you are easily distracted by other things. But one good thing is that the grading system is chill.
Buckley does some things right, but he also misses some things. He posts guided notes, has an optional attendance policy, and gives easy extra credit. HW is tedious but you have unlimited attempts. Discussions are terrible - TA had no idea how to teach. No additional materials to study for exams - stare at your notes! Tests get harder as you go.
Surprised that many found his lectures to be hard to follow, as I thought he was a very good lecturer. He always answered questions in depth as well. Homework can be tedious, just make sure to start it early. TONS of extra credit. Some of the tests had weird questions tbh, like there'll be a random question about something that wasn't even covered
Buckley is friendly and passionate about his field, but his teaching style left much to be desired for an advanced course. Lectures overall are largely unengaging. Material is not too difficult, essentially his Econ102 but with calc. However, the difficulty of the exams are not accurately reflected the coursework and hw is mind-numbingly tedious.
Buckley explains the topics very well and provides more than enough resources for one to succeed in the course.
For ECON102: The course was well structured and followed the schedule and syllabus. The lectures were detailed although sometimes boring. All the required materials are accessible online (PPT & notes), there is a textbook (~$30) but not mandatory. Only complain would be that there was always a delay with grading, for all 3 midterms and the final.
I went into the class knowing nothing about economics and came out of it somewhat knowing basic economics. What I learned about economics was thanks to TA handouts and the assignments on Moodle, not the lectures (since I fell asleep in about 75% of them due to how boring some were and how quiet Prof. Buckley's voice was). Chill grading system.
He is a great lecturer. I felt bad for him because only a few people were showing up to class by the end. Pretty much all of what you need for the exams is posted to canvas. I didn't always show up but when I did I always felt glad that I went.
I've had Dr. Buckley for ECON 102 & 302, and he is one of my favorite professors. He has very clear grading criteria, and offers many resources to make it easy to learn the material. Unlike my other professors, he leads his own office hours to help answer questions. He is definitely a professor you should try and take if you can.
Very easy class, professor knew what he was talking about. Despite being good at what he does, his lectures were pretty boring, but the content was very easy to understand and pretty intuitive. He had great grading policies and an A was pretty much guaranteed if you somewhat paid attention. Great guy overall.
I had Buckley for 102 and 302 for the econ minor. He is great. Very clear criteria, posts all notes/slides on Canvas. HW was annoying: unlimited attempts but have to start over with like 10+ different problems. Did not give HW answers. Never went to lecture and easy to learn on your own.
This class will take 20-25 hours per week. There are few resources for this course, and the tests are tough!! The recorded videos are made well. However, they give very few instructions on how problems are carried out. Overall, this course is miserable. Take an alternative if you can.
Can't go wrong with Buckley :D. If you go to class and are attentive in the lectures, you'll succeed. Most of things he taught is very valuable and he uses a lot of real world example to help you understand the concepts. You get what you put into the class!
Class was based on homework, 4 total exams, and optional extra credit. While attendance isn't mandatory, the lectures are worth going to, since Dr. Buckley is great at explaining. Homework was incredibly tedious and annoying to complete, but not too difficult overall. Doing the work guarantees a good grade.
Easy A as long as you attend the lectures and complete the weekly quizzes and extra credit assignments.
This class was harder than expected. The homework was very difficult because it gave you no feedback and you have to start over until you get your desired grade. The exams were okay as long as you studied. The book with practice exams can help. Lectures are very boring and he basically reads off the slides.
Lectures are boring and long, basically reads word for word off slides. The test prep assignments are not helpful during the test. He makes the test questions more confusing than need be.
King Buckley.
Worst class I have ever taken. Speaks so quietly during lectures it is difficult to understand him unless you're literally in the front row. TA sessions were not one bit helpful at all and were a COMPLETE waste of time, test's had material that was not even remotely covered in class. AVOID AT ALL COSTS take this with Diilani i've heard much better.
The professor was extremely rude and did not care that I was experiencing a health difficulty. He told me he didn't understand why I don't understand his class even he speaks looking away from the audience and slams you with information in a tiny lecture. Even Econ MAJORS failed his class.
Even though I currently do not have a good grade in his class, I am still so interested in what he has to teach. I feel as though if I were in this situation with other professors, I would hate the class and the professor him or herself. However, he is so engaging in lectures that I feel myself learning a lot from him and loving the course.
Super easy class. It takes skill to not get an A. Could barely hear him during lecture and read off slides so never ended up going. Notes posted online
I thought he was very clear with what we needed to know. I took AP Micro and Macro in high school and did not receive credit for the AP exams, finding them quite challenging. However, Buckley is incredibly easy to understand. Exams are not required to be taken, but will make the final worth more if neglected. Very easy A for me.
The students bashing this class are simply bad students. This course was so easy. Homework had quizzes which were 2 attempts, and lesson assignments unlimited attempts (all MCQ). 3 tests and a final, and technically you could just take the final and it would be worth 75% of the grade. Good lecturer with useful examples. He does speak softly though.
Don't need to show up to lecture to succeed. Very very good online materials and practice to learn the content on your own. Seems like a chill guy too. Tests should be light assuming you did practice.
He explains things great. Makes the material easy to understand. There are weekly quizzes and assignments but it is tolerable and the workload is definitely manageable. He also has great TA's.
Very easy class. Barely gives homework and what he gives is very simple. Only knock on him is that he needs to speak up during lectures and sometimes gives too much examples to where it can distract you from the main points. Overall, he's pretty solid.
Class has various resources to use such as book, tutorials, tutor handouts and lecture slides. Their was various extra credit and grade boosters opportunities. People who rated him a low score, I guarantee did not use their resources to their advantage. Please study throughout your week as this was helpful for me. Overall his class is very easy.
His lectures are very good, using real world examples. He grades based only on online quizzes, assignments, and exams. His Microecon class is incredibly easy, and he teaches it very well.
You don't need to go to anything, but go to the discussion if you're not understanding anything, because they give a full summary of the lectures with practice that looks just like the exams
He is a funny lecturer. You don't really interact with him since it's an auditorium lecture. Attendance is not required (and not really necessary if you can learn from the slides/tutorials). Homework is simple and weekly, taking about 10 minutes or so (including the quiz, lesson assignment, and tutorials). Many chances on assignments. Easy tests.
Overall Professor Buckley is a great professor and makes Econ and concepts very clear and understandable. You sadly dont interact with him, since it is a giant lecture, but the work load is easy and fair.
Overall, the class was pretty light. I only needed to study the day of the exams and that was plenty. Attendance isn't mandatory and he posts all the slides, which explain the concepts nicely and there's even extra credit for just taking midterms and doing other practice assignments, which I thought were helpful studying for the exam anyways.
Buckley's econ 102 class is super light, insane amount of opportunities to get your grade up and extra credit. Seems like a super solid dude as well, easy-to-follow lectures and the guy knows what he's doing. Highly recommend the class
Just like 102, 302 with Buckley is a great course. The content is just an extension of 102 with calculus. Buckley is once again a great lecturer. Content may get dry at times, so make sure to stay on top of things by attending discussion (but are optional). Homework is unlimited attempts which is nice. Overall with minimal work one can get an A.
Econ 102 w/ Buckley is a light course, structured incredibly well. Each week you have a lesson assignment and a lesson quiz which both total around 15 to 20 multiple choice questions and optional worksheets. Extra credit is provided. Professor is nice and sound quality depends on room sound system it has nothing to do with how he sounds.
Very passionate and kind. Has a whole lot of prep in canvas and not too hard to follow. Post lecture slides on canvas too so don't have to show up in person. Just make sure you study and you'll be fine. Tests weren't that hard or tricky.
Professor Buckley is a great lecturer, he makes the concepts interesting and understandable with real world examples. I attended every lecture and barely had to study. He also has a great sense of humor.
Truthfully didn't really go to class or try my hardest. That being said I think the criteria is really clear and prepping for tests is just on how you study. Get his workbook, it has a lot of practice tests in them that aren't on Canvas. Homeworks every week can be boring but worth it. Also don't need to spend too much time.
Manages to make econ less boring for sure. Could pass the class without ever attending lectures but the examples he gives makes it worth going, plus he gives great lectures and isnt afraid to point out how relevant it is to modern topics. Great guy definitely take him!!
