Love, love, LOVE this teacher! His class was built to learn from, without an overwhelming work load. His feedback is always very helpful and he makes very clear what is expected of you. You can tell he genuinely wants to see his students do well.
This teacher is awesome! Very clear on all instructions, and very helpful :)
This professor was very helpful and clear about the expectations. I took the online course and received an A. This was not a difficult class and I actually learned a lot! The quizzes do have a strict time limit but they are not too difficult. Book is difinitely needed for this class.
excellent work history in government prisons, private prisons, P&P, parole board. All around enjoyable prof with his experience. Great class. Learned more than I ever thought I would.
excellent feedback; made learning enjoyable with all he legal stuff in this class. Am taking a class again with this professor in Spring 2014. He has really great work experience and translates this into the course for learning.
Wow! I definitely had to work for my grade, but learned so much about the juvenile justice system. Mr. B's work experience is incredible and his stories along with the textbook are fantastic. Kind of a hard class, but well worth it. I really felt like I learned a lot having him as a teacher.
Professor was great. Real life work experience with real stories. Mr. Burton's experience in corrections, probation, private corrections, parole board member, and his years of total experience were worth taking. Didn't know what to expect, but definately found class beter than expected.
i was expecting something less taking the crim law class on line. my experience with prof burton changed my outlook on on line classes. he was clear, helpful, and i learned a lot more than i ever thought i would in a on line class. will recomend to other csn students
Took class in fall of 2013. Although I didn't get an A, I learned a lot, and I mean a lot. Mr. Burton had an unbelieveable amount of knowledge. He has worked both the prison side and the court side making this a great class. I must admitt was taking this class for an easy A, but once I got going it became clear I dind't know much.
Currently taking two course with Professor Burton and he is great. Grades assignments really quick and will give you plenty of feedback if your answers are incorrect. Exams are easy and his study guides tell you exactly what will be on them. 1 discussion, 1 private essay and 1 quiz every week. I plan to take more courses with him.
Excellent Professor!! I took this course online and very surprised how much I learned. As long as you do the work you will get an A.
Very helpful and understanding! We need more professors like you! :-)
Prof Burton was great. He was very organizzed and always available during classroom breaks; before class; after class. I truely couldn't believe how helpful he was to all students. The class itself was very informmative. I learned lots more than I ever knew. Thank you Prof Burton.
not sure what i would get with an online course. i got much more than i expected. excellent course. mr burton was very responsive to my work. felt like work was just about right for an 8 week computer class. am taking another class with this teacher in the fall of 2014.
Took this summer crj140 class. Very easy class and helpful teacher. I recommend this professor over the other one who teaches crj130. Took online each week was a quiz, discussion and short writing assignment. You don't get 90%or higher you have problems. Nothing was difficult he gives you a study sheet for mid term and final take time to research and take notes and you cannot fail the big test. Super easy class. Time frames for quizzes are reasonable and fair. You run out of time that's on you.
not too hard of a class, but had to work for my A. Mr Burton's class was very consistant. A quiz and ongoing discussions among the students, and an essay sent to the profesor for grading. It was nice knowing that each week the class format was the same for the most part. I appreciated the exam study guide. It helped me learn.
this is a new class at the college. never really thought about ethics. this class woke me up. i learned more than i ever thought about morals and ethcis related to work and how to treat others. mr burton covered a lot of information, but he is fair and his office door is always open. i've got a low A going into the final. think i'll do okay. overall great class. i think i'm more aware of ethics after this class
Mr. Burton was a vary fair prof. He made me think about being preparred for work as a cop. I'm pretty sure I hadn't thought much about morals and ethics before this class as it relatees to the job of a cop. It made me see how much I need to be prepared before I take any testing exams or orall boards when it comes to moral things and ethics things.
A good class for me. I found information interesting. Professor Burton had good insight from his career as a former P&P officer. Like most of my classes, tough to set thru 3 hours, but at least we had videos, news clips, some documentaries that frequently added to the topics. I really liked the professor's respect he showed to everyone in class.
good class will take him again
this class was about ethics. good course. liked instructor. it made me think.
I will say it was tough class. Mr. Burton did give me regular feedback and I appreciated it. Sometimes I was embarrassed because his feedback was much more detailed than my work. I did learn lotss from his feedback. He was way more good at feedback than other teachers. I sweetted it out until the last week. Had to work very hard for a low A.
basic criminal justice class. good class. I'm not a criminal major, but learned a lot. Teacher was nice and helpful. He had lots of knowlege about crime justice. I would take class again.
class was good and Teacher helped me learn about prison. I did all work and went to class and got a A.
class about right for online. knew what I was getting each week. u r given good feedback. am taking same prof for another online this summer. thx
no surprises. gives study guide. pretty easy A if you use study guide and attend class. mr. burton was pretty cool, real patient, and I like he had worked in the criminal justice job for a long time and now teaching.
Overall it wasn't bad, but there is weekly work to make you think and read. I struggled with some of the terminolagy at the start, but as the semester went on the terminolagy became clearer. This class definitely made me understand why ethics is importint in police work. I want to be a cop after college.
prof great. subject matter good. wasn't my favorite class but worked my brain. guess I didn't like becauses it made me see I wasn't as ethical as I thought I was
lot of reading. but you get study guide for tests. instructor okay. he was helpful and kept it interesting. i didn't know their was so much to know about ethics. kind of overloded me at times. lot of information.
I love the layout of his assignments short and easy. Very organized, easy A. Pop quizzes after every chapter or two, right off the book. Gives short essays but everything off the book. This is a very easy class for online.
He's very funny, and make this lessons interesting. The answers are in the study sheet he gives you. If you study that, you should be fine (:
learned a lot. liked instructor. good class. will take another class with him in fall.
Very helpful professor. Mr. Burton always took time after class to help me with any problems. He was nice and professional. Plan to take another course with him.
good class. liked format. each week similar no surprises. gave me a lot of feedback and it helped me understand and write better
liked format. each week similar no surprises. gave me a lot of feedback and it helped me understand and write better
Mr. Burton is a great professor. Homework schedule is the same through the semester so there is no surprises. It usually consists of read the chapter, 1 post, 1 private essay, and a quiz every week. His post and writing assignments are on very interesting topics which makes for a quite interesting class.
Thank you Mr. Burton for taking time to help me after a rough first few weeks. I thank you for caring. Enjoyed the class. You saved me!
Bryan Burton made it very easy for me to understand this course and it's requirements. There will be weekly Public Discussions, Private Essays and Chapter Quiz. The Discussions and Essays have to have a minimum of 200 words. Very easy class and you learn a lot by the public discussions you will be having with the other students.
No surprises with assignments. Same format each week. Mr. Burton even had online hours scheduled every week and this surprised me. Each week of debate was interesting. Some weeks I found myself changing my mind on what I thought. Very interesting class.
If you show to class everyday, do the essays, & study for the quizzes & test you're set up to pass. Even if you're falling behind he'll do what he can to help you pass. He lets you print the PowerPoints & he'll even give you a study guide about what's on the quiz & test. He's a really good professor overall.
Took Mr Burtons Class online for Introduction to Ethics in Criminal Justice and was excellent class. Book is 100% must all test questions come straight from it along with discussions and short essays. You have 4 tests total. Quiz every week on chapter and then discussion post & a short essay. All very easy if you have book and read chapter.
Easy class! A couple of assignments due every Sunday but not too much just a discussion, a private essay 200 words and or a quiz.
Mr. Burton's class was a good one to take online. He has weekly assignments and is very clear about what is expected. At first I wasn't sure I would like the weekly quizzes and papers. It ended up being fine because it was very organized. No surprises and I liked this alot. It was a good class to take on line from my house.
good class. lotss of writing. good feedback from instructor. would take another online from this teacher. also leanred some stuff.
This was a great class. Tests and essays aren't too terribly hard. I really took interest in the subject. A lot of what happens in the news with police and the CJS ties in with class material. The professor was very helpful and made lectures interesting. He shows students a side of criminal justice very few people have a privilege to understand.
Mr. Burton was fair with everything. I waas surprised how much fedback i got in this online course. Usually i don't hear from the professor for most of the semester. I will defnitely take this prof again and it will probably be on line.
This is a GREAT professor, the best one I ever had. I am taking this course online and it is not hard at all. I would HIGHLY recommend him. It only takes 1 hour out of the day to finish your work. He assigns 1 quiz, (EASY!), 1 public discussion and 1 private essay.
good class
Professor Burton has a lot of experience! He's a great professor and truly cares about his students. He gives great feedback and makes sure everyone understands the lecture. He's very funny too, if you need help he will be there to help! Definitely recommend taking his classes!
By far the best professor I've encountered. I've taken multiple classes from him and each time I learn something completely new. I love the fact he enjoys discussing on going events in our state/country. Everyone needs to take him.
Much like his other courses (and I've taken 3) every week, you have to do a: private essay (200 words), discussion post (200 words), and quiz. Except when there is an exam. Very repetitive, but the reading is interesting.
Class was good. Learned a lot about parole.
Best professor! I would highly recommend him! I took 2 of my crj classes with him. He has a passion in his field and makes class very interesting. He also cares a lot about students success and will do help you as much possible in understanding the material. Assignments and quizzes are straight forward!
He's very knowledgeable and has a lot of experience in the field. Most of the class is lecture and can be hard to sit through (I had a 3 hour class with him). The tests are easy, just do the study guide. Other than that, it's an easygoing class and interesting.
Rec'd A for class. Read the book, do your weekly discussion post and take a test. He offers great feedback and respond right away if you have to ask a question through email. I think there were maybe one or two writing assignments but nothing heavy that you had to go sit at the library for hours for. He's great I would definitely take him again.
First CJ class I've taken. Was a good intro to the criminal justice system. Mr. Burton did a good job. It was a pretty easy A. A test every forth week and a study guide. Some writing projects but students get them in first week semester. I should get an A at end of semester.
Took this class over the summer session and each week consisted of a very easy discussion post, short essay, and weekly quiz. It was beyond easy and you learn a lot about the criminal justice system. The final exam was very relaxed too. Prof. Burton gives great feedback and grades very quickly. Highly recommend taking his classes!
Summer class. Pretty easy if you keep up with assignments. Each week the same type of assignments. Liked getting study guide for Final Exam. Realized at end of semester I learned some things. Would take again.
Incredibly easy I passed this class with an A and I never even bought the book. Professor Burton is a pretty cool dude too, always gives you feedback on all your discussions. Id recommend just reading through the modules before taking the quizzes.
He is helpful especially if you have disability.
Amazing study guide's, he will prepare you for the exams. Read your text book, follow instructions for your 2 papers, show up to class, and you will get an easy A.
Every week you're assigned a minimum 200 word private and public essay also a weekly quiz due Sunday at 11:55 pm. Very easy class if you actually study, very nice guy and replies to all his students work. There is a midterm and final also. I recommend to buy the book you will need it . I just took him for fall 2017 online.
He is GREAT! You have no more than 3 assignments due a week. Discussion, private essay (250 words) and a quiz. It only takes me an hour to complete all. He gives great feedback and replies to emails quickly. I missed the first week of class and he was more than happy to unlock those assignments for me so I could complete them! Will take again!!
Definitely one of the best teacher I had during Spring semester. His class was super easy; tests weren't difficult and his writing assignments were no sweat. Professor Burton always updates grades on Canvas so that's a plus. Easy A!
He gives a lot of good feedback. 1 public discussion, 1 private essay and easy quiz each week. Easy A as log as you read his book. He's willing to work with you, would take again. Attendance isn't mandatory online but important to login and do assignments as least twice a week.
Easy A as long as you read the book and complete your assignments. He gives feed back to everyone and really cares that you are learning and understanding what he's teaching. I took him for CRJ 104 in class and CRJ 107 online. Whatever other CRJ's I need, I'll take him of he's an option.
More feedback from this instructor than any I've had. Consistent class each week and you know what you're getting. Class wasn't hard, but it wasn't easy either. Will take again.
Amazing lectures and theres never a boring day in that class
The funnest criminal Justice professor anyone could have.
Professor Burton is a great teacher! He is strict when it comes to being on point with your discussions and expects you to be organized, but if you are a CRJ major you will enjoy his class. I got a 98% in his class. As long as you do the work and read the book (short chapters) you will do fine!
Took Prof. Burton for a few classes, work is fairly easy, you just have to actually do it. Every week you have a quiz, 200 word essay, & a 200 word discussion post. It isn't hard, just lots of work, especially if you are taking a bunch of classes. I would definitely recommend his class though.
The summer class was super easy ! One online discussion, one essay and one quiz every week. Look at the power points and youll have all the answers ! I would definitely take him again !
Took Mr. Burton's online class which is super easy. Each week you have one quiz which is super easy, one discussion and respond to two students ( 200 words min.) and one short essay ( 200 words min). Again super easy and the book is very clear and easy to read. Would definitely take his class again.
Have Mr. Burton this fall. When I started the class I thought it was going to be difficult - a quiz, an essay, and a discussion board post to others. But as the class went forward I found myself actually looking forward to all of it. Mr. Burton gave me grate feedback. I can honestly say I have never had feedback in any online class like what I got.
Great professor and easy class. Three things due a week and it takes less than an hour to do it. I didn't buy the textbook and I easily passed without it. Don't waste your money on it, the powerpoints and google should be enough. He gives a lot of feedback on each assignment and it really helps to understand the material.
He is great professor who is passionate about his work. He helped me get into the agency that I truly loved and I learned so much. Due to the pandemic, all internships had to be suspended and he gave us alternative assignments to work on. The assignments are an easy A and he'll give you great feedback on them.
Mr Burton shared years of work experience throughout the semester. I was shocked he gave feedback on every assignment. He by far gives the best feedback Ive ever had from a teacher. He really cares about helping all students learn.
Mr. Burton gives A LOT of feedback back, like be prepared to read like ten paragraphs of responses. He's an easy grader but sometimes he doesn't like what you say in a way and will send you a book of responses. He's a great teacher but I wouldn't recommend taking his class in the summer because its a lot of information for the summer.
Mr. Burton was very fair. He gave me extra time to complete some assignments and it was my fault I didn't do so. What I liked was the feedback he provided for every assignment. There was a lot of information for an 8 week class but plenty of time to do it. I deserved the grade I got.
good class. truely didn't know there was so much to learn about parole. will take another with Mr. Burton.
good class. got most feedback i've ever gotten in this class. made me think about ethics alot.
took 8 week course. lot of reading because of 16 weeks cramed into 8.
There are three assignments a week. You have to do a discussion post, quiz, and mini-essay. The mini-essays require extensive research and he is strict on checking your citations and the information you included. He gives you feedback on everything you turn in. Wouldn't recommend his class.
Every week there are 3 things due: quiz based on a chapter of the book, a discussion post, and a mini essay (300+ words) then a final exam at the end. It can be a bit time consuming especially the essays because you need outside research but if you pace yourself well, it's manageable. He gives a lot of feedback on the discussions and essays!
Defanately kept me on my toes. I was mad at first because he always was checking my sources. I admit I wasn't truthful with some of my sources. He made me correct them before giving a final score. Really I should only be made at myself for trying to take a shortcut in posting references. Really learned allot overall.
Wasn't sure about what to expect at start of class. But it was a great class. Covered a lot of current things. Assignments made me realize what it takes to be a police officer in today's world. And thank you Dr. Burton for your AMAZING feedback.
I def recommend taking his class if you are a CRJ major, his assignments were pretty easy & he gives you a week to complete them with helpful feedback too. The final is comprehensive so just make sure you study all the chapters and complete your work on time. You'll be guaranteed to pass his class, trust me. And the textbook was cheap too.
You should take this class. Prof Burton always answered my questions. He wants to help students understand the details and concepts. I believe he responded to all of my work. It was nice knowing he was reading my work. Sometimes you get a professor who is out to lunch, but in this class Prof Burton took the time to respond to me. Appreciated.
good class. good comments from Mr. Burton.
This class got my attension. There was a lot I realized I did not know about criminology. The class cleared up a lot of things for me. Some weeks were more hard than others. But Mr. Burton was always there to answer my questions. I am glad I took this class.
I started this class with a bad attitude and was mad Mr. Burton was verifying my sources some which were invalid. He called me on it every time and I hated it. Was my own fault tryin to sneek invalid sources by him. I admit he was patient and mid-semester properly citing sources was a breeze. I look back and am thankful he didnt kick me out.
easy A. assignments are same each week with a discussion, essay and quiz. do the assignments and you will get an A.
I already took 5 classes with this professor and I really love him and how he conducts all the sessions. There are a lot of readings and 1 discussion 1 essay and 1 quiz per week and 1 final quiz plus some credits. He always answers u and everything u need is always present I will take again my 6th class with him ....
Good class. Will take again. Liked communicating with Mr. Burton on assignments through assignment comments. he always read and responded to my work and this is something I really enjoyed and learned from.
By far the best CRJ professor here at CSN. You can tell he is passionate about what he teaches. He is also very thorough and clear about his syllabus, so as long as you follow his instructions you'll do just fine! He gives great feedback as well so you learn the material better.
My 2nd class with Mr. Burton. Just love his consistency in feedback. Always provides insight beyond the assignment. He gave me an extension one week while sick. Appreciated his compassion for my sickness.
liked the format of the class. each week same a essay, a discussion, a quiz. no surprises. straight forward class. mr. burton very flexible. had a family death notified him and he extended a couple of assignment due times. don't know about other students but mr. burton made comments on all of my work and i appreciated this. taking him again fall.
Learned alot. Good class.
thank u mr. burton for a great class.
Very good course. Mr. Burton was very responsive. Plan to take his class in the spring.
Dr Burtons class was great. I have had him for three classes and he is by far the best CJ professor in the department. He is also flexible if you have a conflict. I appreciated this.
good class. good instructor.
Thank you Dr. Burton for a great class!
A kind of hard class but learned alot. Dr. Burton's feedbacks were great.
really really good feedback. he was the best in comunicating with me even though it was an online class. i am taking one of his summer classes.
mr burton was very responsive to my assignments. this was my first criminal class and it opened my eyes to everything. he gives study guides for the tests. am taking again this fall.
I wouldn't take his feedback personally because he'll really respond to every little detail. He's a tough grader and I would say to always make sure to look at the assignment requirements when doing his assignments.
was surprised how much feedback mr burton gave. it was good for me. i would not consider him a tough grader but he definitely read evrything i posted and responded. his attention to my work made me to do a better job completing assignments in all areas like spelling, terminology, grammar, and punctuating rules. am taking in fall for another class.
Mr. Burton is one of a few at csn who read my work and comment. I appreciated this. Took this class thinking it would be easy. How much could there be to learn about p&p. Well let me tell you I had no idea how much there is to learn. I struggled at times with differenses betewen state information and federal but a good class. Learned alot!
Took summer class with Mr. Burton. Good class. No surprises. I think he always gave feedback can't think of when he did not. Will get an A if I do not blow the final. I have signed up for one of his fall classes.
class was one of my best this semester. mr burton's feedback is amazing. he also let me interview him for another criminal justice class project. i'm taking his 107 class in spring semester.
This was a very good course. Each week my brain was on overdrive, so much to think about with each issue we studied and how ethics is involved. The class also gave me a good overrview of how our cj system works and operates. So glad I took the class.
I did struggle at times in this class but it taught me alot. Sometimes the theories were hard to understand and Prof Burton took time to explain them to me in separate emails in the class. He always followed up to make sure I understood. Prof Burton was very respectful. He give me more feedback than any I have had at csn. Glad I took the class.
Prof Burton is amazing. I took his summer 8 week course. All on Canvas. He gives the best feedback to every assignment. He really wants you to understand the lessons. 1 easy discussion board, 1 easy 150 word essay, and 1 mc quiz per week. Read textbook 2ch/week. provides review slides. 1 50q mc final exam. Best CRJ prof at CSN. Take him! Easy A!
This was intro to CRJ system class. My first criminal class. A really good class with Dr. Burton. I learned so much. Am taking his 106 this fall. Really liked how he gave me fedback.
GREAT CLASS WOULD TAKE AGAIN!!!
I am not a criminal major but took this class as a general education required. Enjoyed learning things about the cry system. Proffessor Burton was very attentive to all students. I liked his involvement in discussions. he gave good feedback about what were studying in the week.I will take him again in the upcoming spring semester.
This was a good class. Glad I took it.
class was very enjoyuble. had a family death in mexico and mr burton worked with me extending assignment while i was gone several days. i did learn alot about jails and prisons. it was a class i was glad i took.
Professor Burton is amazing! This class was really enjoyable. There is a private essay and public discussion due every week, but they help you learn so much about the criminal justice system. Professor Burton also gives great feedback on assignments.
The assignments are the same every week so you know exactly what to expect -- a discussion, a short essay, and a quiz. Everything is open book so as long as you have the textbook, you should have no problems with this class. Not my first class with him and I would take him again.
so much i did not know about ethics and criminal justice. really opened eyes to everything. glad i took the class. and thank you dr burton for regular feedback on assignments.
my first class in criminal justice and i learned alot. mr. burton was helpful and very responsive to my questions. it was a good class to begin my criminal justice studies. i am taking mr. burton this summer for ethics and corrections.
I enjoyed this class. It really helped me understand criminal theory. Professor Burton did a good job of explaining the theories each week. I also found his feedback to be very fast when I emailed him questions about assignments.
Good class, easy assignments each week that are structured/scheduled the same. Gives lengthy responses to every assignment/individual discussion post that no one cares about. He's understanding regarding assignments and issues that come up; requires discussion responses for full credit (even though everyone waits until the last minute to do it)
I took an 8-week summer course with Mr. Burton. This was my second criminal justice class with him. He is a GOAT. I love his class. It is so fun, and he is super cool. He knows his stuff. The class consists of reading, quizzes, discussion posts, and short essays. He is the best CRJ professor at CSN, without a doubt. I try to take him for everythin.
Prof. Burton's CRJ104 class was an excellent introduction to the criminal justice system. The weekly essays and discussions really helped solidify the material, and the professor's thoughtful feedback made the workload very manageable. Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for study prep.
I love this guy. If you are looking for the best CRJ Professor to take at CSN, Professor Burton is him. His class is structured in a way where there is one quiz/discussion/essay per week. He provides lots of valuable and informational feedback. He knows his stuff and wants his students to succeed. I take him for every CRJ class. I will miss him.
Class requires 1 private essay, 1 discussion post (2 replies), and 1 quiz a week. The workload can be manageable, as the class work is not difficult nor too wordy. As long as one reads the textbook, which is easy to read, then it is easy to pass the class. Professor Burton informed us every week where we can reach if there were any questions.
Professor Burton is the GOAT. If I had free time I would consider taking his classes for fun. He is such a cool guy. I wish I could take him for every class. I miss his class so much and his feedback. 1 quiz, discussion, and short essay per week on the assigned chapter. Not difficult. I love this guy so much and heavily recommend him.5/5. Take him!
Best Criminal Justice Professor ever! If your lucky enough to select him do it. He is fare and consistent! His grading structure is easy to follow. He goes by Bryan but his name is Scott Burton he wrote our class book and he has many years in federal law enforcement. I am a prior officer my self and this was better training than the academy.100/100
This is/was a good class. My eyes were opened to ethics and its impact in the criminal justice system. The topics we covered each week worked my brain. Glad to have taken this class when I did.
I wish I had taken this class later in the crij schedule. I took it after 104. Was lost first few weeks. Thanks to Mr. Burton for his patience helping get me to where I needed to be. Wait a couple of classes before taking the 270. I did not know neerly enough to take the class after crijj 104. It was an overall excelent class once I got to speed.
a good class.
There's 3 assignments every week, which are based on the readings. The quizzes are 10 questions, very simple. Professor Burton offers amazing feedback and is available at all times. This class is probably the best criminal justice class I've taken.
i learned alot. did not really know what is ethics before class. class made me think alot.
Took 106 and 270 with this professor. It's a review, discussion, and paper each week, but not hard at all and absolutely beneficial to your learning. Each assignment helps you understand textbook material and shows how it actually applies to real life. Gives lots of feedback and additional knowledge, truly cares.
Enjoyed the class. Fair grader. Enjoyed getting responses from professor on assignments.
The organized format of this class made it less stressful. Mr. Burton always gave feedback and it helped me better understand the topics for the week. I enjoyed the class.
