this teacher was completely unorganized and doesnt understand the meaning of 101 . He doesnt grade tests consistantly...never prepared for class.. bitter with the world
Good guy. Helped me out whenever I would ask. Grades tough though, which is good for 101 I feel. I do not agree with the bitter about the world. Class is pretty informal and he is fairly young so he remembers what its like to be a student.
Expects a lot more from a class than he teaches and expects a 201 class from a 102!
Moves Fast...starts and rolls with it...you better be tuned up with 101!
Very hard. He likes to give quizes on material that he hasn't covered yet. He expects you to be able to read and understand the text which is written in Spanish. He expects too much for a 102 class.
He can be nice, but not normally. He acts like he is mad that his students come to classand he has to teach.If you are in 102 and you ask a question about something from 101, he'll get mad and make you feel stupid. I think he is a good guy, just bad prof.

Difficult, many quizzes and two oral presentations with no notes and a visual, can get off topic and always collects homework and takes attendance every day
This prof. is bitter at the world and takes it out on his students. RUN!

worst professor i've had. very hard, not understanding at ALL- especially with absences, (even excused). a ridiculous amount of quizzes on stuff he hasn't taught and basicallly he's a jerk to deal with. AVOID this one.
Way too many quizzes on things that he has not taught...collects all homework and never gives it back...MOODY!!! Very hard to understand and jerkie.
Mr. Byrd can be nice at times, but is very ANAL on his grading. He doesn't give very many notes or handouts, all lecture. He never reviews for tests, and half the time we dont have time to finish. All I can say is, he expects a lot.

1 word: RUN! not helpful. his quizzes and tests are often times on material we haven't covered. he grades the homework like he would grade a test...and there's pages of hw every night. do not take his class!
Prof. Byrd is very easy. There are a lot of quizzes, but MOST are announced and ALL are on homework readings or class discussions. There are 2 oral presentations, but they're not hard. He is nice and funny. You don't get hw back but you don't need it.

He is not that bad. I would not take him again but he isnt the worst. He is big on the homework. Which by the end of the semester he just checked taht you attempted.
very difficult...not understanding...no review for tests...unannounced quizzes...and you might come up with a lower final grade than you even expect...wouldn't recommend him

Hard but fair, lots of work and he sometimes is not easy to get to talk too.
prof. byrd is the WORST professor i've had the entire time i've been at college.he should have been fired a long time ago, he's rude and makes fun of you if you dont know something.makes work ten times harder than it should be.
I think overall he is a good teacher. He has his quirks, but everyone does. Make sure you do your homework and study what he tells you to! He is always willing to help out when you ask him for help!
Eh, I don't even know where to begin. His lectures are pretty much useless. Just do the homework. You might expect a B or C+ but end up with a D. Bad. Bad. Bad.
Worst teacher I've ever had! Prejudice and non-understanding. You will recieve a lower grade than expected and deserved. Run from his class. he will ruin your GPA. He should not be teaching, period.
Hate him. Run!!!! No matter how hard you work you will end up with at most a C. He sucks!!! If you can't get another teacher, drop the class.

useless lectures that wander off topic constantly, expects everything to be learned outside of class. He also showed up late to the exam, after a 10 min lecture about being late. Very annoying class.
the worst teacher i have ever had! made us do 5 pages of the workbook every night and then handed it back to us AFTER the test.Showed up late for the exam after telling us he would not let us take the exam if we were late. messed up my GPA drop his class!
Dont take him, it will make you hate such a fun language. He gets psycho at times and believes if you make A's the class is too easy, he expects C's. Nice guy outside of class, but bad professor

i made an A in span 101, an A in 201 and an A in 202... if you're wondering what i made in spanish 102... a C because this guy is a complete idiot. i was sick on the day of my presentation, asked him if i could redo it and he told me he ought to fail me!
DONT TAKE FOR 202!!! He grades tests ridiculously hard and assigns hours upon hours of homework that he does not even return or go over. Doesnt believe in teaching grammar and expects you to be fluent or fail. He can be a nice guy, but he is definitely not an effective teacher. A's thru 202, now D+
Senor Byrd...How can I say this..he tends to be a little fiesty sometimes. He presents himself as there to help but when you ask for help he makes you feel like an idiot. His test arent that bad, but he does get strict sometimes. If you can avoid him if not,then just do your best.
Try not to take Prof. Byrd. He does not explain anything at all, even the other professors said he is teaching ridiculous stuff. He shows more information than we need to know for 102.
very easy but you never seem to accomplish anything. the online hw is a pain sometimes but there isnt much. dont take him early cuz he tries to make jokes that just dont cut it.

Test are STRAIGHT from the book(in fact, he gets them from the textbook company - just study, for God's sake). Class is pretty pointless since you just do book exercises in groups (he DOES take role), but it's easy. Pretty nice guy, I didn't find him condescending or unfair. Class is just boring.
The WORST EVER. More concerned that he is an adjunct than anything else. Tries to be tough to become a permanant faculty member. He wants you to do poorly. There should be a school wide boycott of his classes.
Take this guy only if you don't need instruction and can just cruise through spanish.
He is not as bad as everybody says he is! First of all his tests are ridiculously easy. If you can read then you will get A's because they are straight from the book. Second of all, he is an extremely nice guy. He will help you out if you go see him, and he does not mind explaining anything over.
I really enjoyed Professor Byrd. He makes Spanish especially interesting because of his knowledge of Latin American people, places and culture. He is also extremely understanding if you ask for his help.
I didn't realize what a disservice his class had done me until I walked into my 202 Spanish class. It was nice to coast through at the time, but now I'm screwed. I never had to use the language in Byrd's clas (everything but the tests is in English). Don't take this class unless it finishes your requirement. You'll regret it later.
He is a good teacher. His tests are really easy, and he is very good about covering material that will be on the test and no excess****. You should take him.
Had him a while ago... worst prof I had at the College. Spanish was normally my favorite class. We never did anything "fun" in his class.. Absolutly HORRIBLE. sorry if it sounds mean.. but it it true. He was moderatly helpful. He should try to add some variety to class. Be creative.
Bad teacher in general. The tests are hard and he puts the study guides up a day before the test. End of the semester you have to do an oral report that you memorize and speak for 4 mins that he grades hard. Take someone else if you can.
Horrible! Doesn't teach! RUN! Doesn't know what he is talking about. STRICT on attendance. anyone else is better. One good thing - all hw is online, it gives you the answers and he doesn't grade it. tests aren't too bad but still stay away
HORRIBLE! He's a nice guy but as far as teaching goes DO NOT TAKE HIM! If you are forced to, go to class b/c I got screwed on attendance. He's strict about that. I never made higher than an 80 on his tests. People said he was easy but they lied. A very unhelpful and inconciderate man! Don't take him! I beg you for your own sake!
Byrd was a little different.. His class was simple, just be there and do the work. His tests were a bit harder, very uniform. once you get his style you should be allright. He's not horrible. doesn't tollerate much b/s but will work with you in situations if you come to him. most students arent willin to go for help.. He's not all bad.
His class is not that hard at all, he's a lot of fun great class. very helpful and easy to talk to if you dont understand, incredibly strict attendance. easy tests, few quizzes, easy online manual homework. not at all as hard or bad as these kids say. def would take him again
Doesn't really explain much, just goes over the activities in class. Tests aren't too hard, once you get his style. Attendance policy is so bad! If you miss 3 classes youre screwed! Miss much more and you could fail! If you aren't very good in Spanish I dont recommend him, he doesn't make it too fun or clear.

class sucks! he never writes anything on the board, gives a ton of homework and then never grades it...test are ridiculous...the title of the book is moving towards fluency, but he expects you to be fluent already...he says all semester that there is a gap beteween 201 and 202...that gap is him because he doesn't teach...AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS!>
Mr. Byrd was not helpful at all. There was way too much homework and no teaching during the class. We were expected to be fluent or teach or ourselves. Do not waste your time in this class, get out while you can.

Is the Spanish Department experiencing THAT much of a teaching deficiency?Is this what tuition helps pay for?! I think we'd all be better off just sitting in a classroom discussing the textbook on our own...cause ya sure won't be TAUGHT anything! Some people are meant to teach...and others are meant to do research...get the picture?

The course information is easy, he just isn't an interesting or helpful guy.
There is hardly any english in his class which is crazy because it is a 100 level course. does not care about his students. likes to show off that he is fluent and makes students feel stupid. requires you to do a ton of work but doesnt grade it or give feedback. the work that he assigns is all busy work that has nothing to do with the lesson.
This man is horrible....he loves to give quizzes before he even teaches the information..and your excepted to know everything...test are easy but all written....don't take his 50min class because he will actually keep you in there for 15min. over and he is always late....worst teacher EVER!!

This professor was really bad. He said lots of inappropriate things during class, and one time when I talked to him after class, he used the f-word when referring to another student in the class. He didn't return any work to us except for one intercambio, and gave everyone a zero on one quiz because someone's cell phone rang. Do not take him!
Mr. Byrd is the worst teacher I have ever had. He never comes up with any activities in class that help you learn spanish. He just does every exercise out of the book. DON'T LET YOUR CELL PHONE GO OFF, or you will see steam come out of the mans ears. OH, and don't miss class or be tardy to class if you can help it.
This is the worst teacher. He does not teach at all. He throws papers around in the classroom. Tries to be scary but really just shows inability to control anger. Takes forever to grade homework, all material is straight out of book so expect to teach yourself spanish cause this man doesn't teach.

I don't know what everyone is talking about, as long as you do the work, it is soooo easy. the only homework is the online manual which you get to try unlimited number of times and it gives the answers. he uses a lot of english so it's really easy to understand. i would definitely take him again! He's hilarious.

I believe Professor Byrd has serious personal issues he is dealing with which he takes out on his students. To be honest, if I were him I would probably act in a similar way, however I would try to be courteous enough to resign from my job before I ruined various students GPAs. Also, if mullet pony tails give you nausea beware of this class.
Was not very respectful, was always late and was rude. Also, not a good teacher at all; did not explain things clearly. Always rushed to fit things in on the day of tests.

He is terrible!!! Avoid him if possible. He uses only the book- NO creativity in teaching whatsoever. There is one oral presentation at the end of the class which was pretty easy, counts as part of the exam. There's a lot of online hw. He asks specific/ detail ?s from the cultural section on the test. the rest of test is pretty straightforward.
He makes you teach yourself. All you do are the activites in the book and you read and teach yourself the chapter!
THIS IS POTENTIALLY THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. I DO NOT THINK THAT HE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO STAY AT THE COLLEGE. EVERYONE IN THE CLASS JUST SITS THERE WHILE HE ATTEMPTS TO TEACH...WHICH IS BASICALLY JUST READING THE BOOK. IF YOU WANT TO HATE LIFE, TAKE HIM. OTHERWISE, RUN FAR FAR AWAY!
A very bad professor. Extremely rude and disorganized. Makes you work in groups all of the time and does no attempt at teaching. Did not learn a thing. Test are impossible. Also, do not take a cell phone period!!!
I don't know what I was thinking. I took him for 101, 102, & 201. I still don't know a thing about speaking spanish. I have nothing to compare him by, but from what others in the class said, he is a horrible spanish professor. Avoid like the plague if you can!
If you get stuck with Byrd, you will survive! I was terrified after reading some of these comments but the class itself isn't really that hard. I got an A-. We had vocabulary quizzes for every chapter (easy way to boost your grade) and the tests were not terrible. TONS OF QUIA HOMEWORK and he grades the final presentation VERY TOUGH! good luck!

This man hates the world. He takes all his anger out on his students' tests. The grading is ridiculously hard and it's impossible to get a good grade on a test. I was a spanish minor before I took him. He makes you hate spanish. Also arrives late for every class and holds you over. Gives difficult random quizzes when he is having an extra bad day.
Obviously the people who are saying that they like this man were probably incredibly great at spanish. That's the only way. YOU have to be good. This man is an awful teacher that just assumes that everyone knows everything about spanish. If you are not fluent then DO NOT TAKE HIM.

Spanish is not my favorite class, this man is the reason why. He did not teach at all. All he did was read from the book and not explain anything. He would go on rants that are factually incorrect (get him talking about communism it is hilarious) and give horrible explanations. Do not take this guy. If he is not fired within a year, shame on CofC
This guy sucks! He really cant speak Spanish all that well either! He is a rude guy with a long greasy pony tail and he has a strict attendance policy! Yup! Over all I would rather die than take this class with this guy ever again! Good luck to you who have him!
