Easiest A ever, I didn't even buy the book. He has you do video posts and I bs'd them all. I want to take another of his classes just to listen to his voice. Morgan Freeman status. Essay was easy. He is extremely thoughtful and helpful whenever you email him! Totally recommend this class. I got a 102%!
This class is probably the easiest class I took in the UA. You basically reply to a prompt using voice/video/message. 1 essay and really easy too. I barely read the book. I used it for quizzes. Definitely recommend this class for an easy A
EASY. He grades on completion basically. Very intimidating at first, but Dr. C is the man. Favorite class i have taken so far at arizona and i advise you to take it for an a
This class was unbelievably easy and fun as well. Dr. Carter will give you a 100% for pretty much everything as long as you put in a tiny effort. Definitely the easiest A I've ever received and you can't beat his voice!
Dr. Carter is the man. Everything is based on completion as long as you follow the guidelines. Most assignments you can collaborate with other people too. Super easy A and this guy will teach you about life on top of African American literature.
Easy A! Really straight forward class. He's a really grader, so as long as you answer everything he asks, you'll get an A.
Did 4 readings, copied everyones voice threads and reworded them, wrote an essay, got a C on the quizzes, did the online lectures... Got an A. Did around 10 hours of work. Take this class if you want to focus on more important classes instead of the silly random gen eds you are required to take. But as a teacher Bryan Carter is super cool.
Dr. Carter is a great teacher, replies to emails quickly, and since most of the assignments are opinion based as long as you do them and put in effort you will get an A.
TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! I promise you this is the best professor you will ever have! The class is the easiest class ever and you don't really have to do the reading to get an A. But if you like to read, the readings are really good. There are so many extra credit opportunities that I don't even know if there is a way not to get an A. Take this class!!!
This was the easiest class I have ever taken. No joke, I received an overall grade of 131% yea The questions he asks are opinion based so as long as you answer them fully, you will get 100% on that assignment. AND he gives extra credit. He is very clear about the class and a very nice guy. TAKE THIS CLASS
Dr. Cater was one of my favorite professors of all time. He was so nice, was an easy grader and gave clear instructions. He used other forms of technology other than d2l to make the class more interactive. He offers so much extra credit its crazy!! Take this class!!
Dr. Carter is awesome. He gives you clear instructions on assignments and grades very generously. If you do the assignments on time and give an honest effort, you'll have no problem earning an A. You absolutely need the book to do well so don't think you can skate through without it! Overall one of my favorite classes that I've taken at the U of A.
Dr. Carter is hands down one of my favorite professors at the university. I took this class for credit, but, I would definitely take more of his classes just because! Attendance is not mandatory, but I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to come to his lectures. Super easy A. Super fun time. Super cool guy. Definitely take his class!
Dr. Carter is awesome and for the most part, the literature is pretty interesting too. This class was a lot of fun and I definitely feel like I learned a lot. Dr. Carter is very helpful and gives tons of extra credit - it's hard to NOT get an A. I literally ended with over 108% in the class. Take this class!
He is passionate about what he teaches and encourages multiple ways of interaction. He also offers a lot of extra credit.
Even though this was an online class, there still was a lot assigned. Almost 100 pages of reading per week, then either a weekly quiz or an assignment. Midterm, presentation, and final project. It's interesting just work.
Easiest A. Got a 108% just by doing the bare minimum. He is a great teacher and guy though. You'd be crazy not to take this class
This has been the easiest class I have ever taken. There are "voicethreads" every week and you can get extra credit for doing those. They take maybe ten minutes. You can submit them late and they will still be graded.
Professor Carter is one of my favorite professors. He is super nice and is easy to understand. He is really engaging and cares about his students and their concerns. I would recommend this class to everyone, easy A but also learned a lot!
Dr. Carter is an amazing professor. This class was actually really interesting and I enjoyed the content. Make sure you get all of the books because you'll be doing a lot of reading. Extra credit is given if you attend the live lectures. There are weekly quizzes and voice threads, a midterm, a reflective paper and course project. Amazing class!
Dr. Carter's 'Introduction to Africana Literature' was a really unique experience. If you've never taken an online class, this is a good start! Assignments are interesting and usually fairly simple. The readings he assigns are interesting, and there are quizzes and voice responses so necessary. Overall, I really enjoy his teaching method.
Easiest class I've ever taken while also learning so much! Dr Carter is passionate about the subject and is excited to share that passion with you. Some instructions are a bit unclear and the syllabus is longer than it needs to be but it's easy enough to figure out. I'm ended the class with over 100% and I did minimal work. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Easiest class ever so much extra credit it's unreal
Great gen ed class. I don't even like literature, however Dr. C makes the class interesting. The assignments aren't too time consuming, just do them with minimal effort and you can easily receive an A. Also, learn some interesting things that you thought you might not like.
Dr. Bryan Carter is the best professor I've had at the U of A. He genuinely cares about his students, grades flexibly, and is clearly passionate about African American studies. Take this class and any other class he teaches! 1 paper, 1 presentation, 4 quizzes, and 3 VoiceThreads make up your grade. It is laid back, but you learn a lot.
This class is not outlined very explicitly. It was an easy A, but I found that I was having a hard time understanding when and what to do on assignments. As long as you pay attention to deadlines (which are also not clearly outlined), you should be fine. Additionally, it is easy to pass without doing the readings.
This class is such an easy Gen Ed. The homework consists of two papers, one project quizzes and voice threads. All the quizzes can be found on quizLIT. For the voice threads, you can just listen to other classmates and copy what they say in them, and the papers are graded very easily, mostly on participation. Plus there is extra credit. Easy A
Too many extra credits. I got 111.8% totally. Take this class in summer or winter class. It is very easy and interesting. You can also learn more new knowledge!!!!!!!!
It is a great class. You pretty much get 100% on everything if you give it full effort. Highly recommend and book is needed.
You'd be silly not to take one of Dr. Carter's courses!
This class was a joke. I did not read anything and I got an A+. Just do the work and turn it in at the appropriate deadline and you're golden. Super easy class!
TAKE HIS CLASS! easy A I got a 130 % in the class. So much extra credit... Easy grader and didn't buy one book that was "needed" for this class. He is also very kind and easy going.
This class was extremely easy, and while it seems intimidating while first coming into the class it's not. Just a fair piece of advice, he copies and pastes all of the quiz questions and answers so there is no reason not to get hundreds on all of them. Just do the work you're asked, and you won't even need to listen to lecture other than for EC.
Easiest class at the University of Arizona. Online set up makes it so easy. Professor is so passionate & literature is suprisingly really good. I got 120% in this class. Reply to every voice thread and you will forsure get an A
I took this class this winter online at home to boost my GPA, and I wish I could do this every winter. Three week course, and before I turned any assignments or the final paper in, I emailed it to him and he responded so promptly. Always there to help you, and really interesting class. I got above a 100% and didn't try too hard. Amazing teacher!
Hes AWESOME !!! Need I say more ? Take this class!! Easy A
Amazing teacher. Super easy class. You have one assignment every week and sometimes a quiz. Some 'reading' but you can get by with not doing them. One extra credit paper and a few projects but overall easy class.
Extremely passionate and caring teacher. Assignments are straight-forward with a few projects. Projects will seem tough due to the new technology the introduces/multi-media aspect but all complete themselves once you get started. So much extra credit there's no reason to not get an A.
Dr. C cares about his students & is very passionate. Different from other online courses, but better: it's an easy A and the readings are actually interesting. You will need to use some newer technology (apps, etc). 1 paper, 2 projects, voice threads, a few quizzes, no final. Tons of extra credit including live lectures. I highly recommend it!
Very easy class and a great professor. Quizzes are easy, given that most answers can be easily googled. Make sure you take two minutes and do a response on the voice threads to get extra credit. I ended with a 138% in the class. TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Literally the easiest course and the best teacher. Did not buy the required reading, got a C on both quizzes, and got 105%.
lots of voice threads, but theyre all easy to comprehend. If you try a solid amount youll have a a good grade.
Bryan is a super great professor. He is extremely passionate about this subject. There is a lot of reading but the quizzes are not difficult at all if you read the material. I took him for AFAS 200 as well and he's awesome! Overall great class, glad I took AFAS with Bryan!
Dr. Carter is one of the greatest professors at U of A. This class has a lot of extra credit opportunities from just signing into the online live sessions or participating in presenting during a live session. The text is required as the quizzes are based off the readings but most are on quizzlet. Weekly voice threads that are easy and NO FINAL!
Dr. Carter is one of the best professors to have online. There are so many extra credit opportunities and you can use other students voice threads for help on your own. For author discussion live you can tell Dr. Carter is the nicest professor that really cares about what he is teaching. Syllabus has everything you need to know so refer to that.
This class was great! All the quizzes were online and there is so much extra credit. There is NO way to not pass with an A
One of the easiest classes I have taken. I actually read one novel- it was so interesting, but none of the others and did fine. Lots of the quizzes are online, but you have to do Voicethreads every week so you have to have an idea of the subject matter. Requires use of certain technology that I hadn't used before. Very nice guy too.
Dr. Carter is a really awesome guy with a voice like an angel. The class is mind bogglingly easy; I did not do a single reading and got 112% in the class. Just do the extra credit voice threads and youll be fine. Take this class!
Awesome gen ed. 100% recommend. There are lots of extra credit opportunities and the readings he had for us were actually interesting to read. There was one reflection paper and some course projects and a couple quizzes but they were all easy. The questions to the quizzes can be found online even if you didn't have time to do the reading.
I took AFAS 160 during the Winter of 2017-2018 and it was a great class. The content is very interesting and Dr. C makes it even more worth while. The Live Broadcasts are optional but if you show up, you will get extra credit. You will learn about different African American authors and poets. Do the readings!
Dude just take the class!!
Do you want the best professor on campus?!?! CHOOSE CARTER. You have no idea how amazing this professor is until you take a class with him and every other professor ON campus cant even touch him on the same level.
This class is great and very easy to pass just do quizzes and voicethreads. The teacher is awesome and loves what he does. He is great and the topic is great. Don't get the books because you wont use them all of the content is found online. You'll do great!
Dr. C is hands down the BEST professor that I have had at the UofA . He is extremely passionate about the topics that he teaches and his students. I have taken 5 AFAS classes with him. It is not hard at all to get over 100% in his classes, just do the work (which is not hard) and there is so much extra credit offered. He is always willing to help.
AMAZING PROFESSOR. Incredibly sweet. online set up is very easy to follow once you get the hang of it. As long as you turn in work you basically get n A for every assignment. Missed a few voice thread assignments but made them with a all the extra credit provided. Overall grade 109% and missed a few assignments here and there lol.
Bryan is the best teacher ever. Easiest class at U of A. you only use the books for quotes so you can just google them but for sure take this class its amazing
Online class but all the answers to the quizzes are on quizlet and the voicethreads are graded by multiple TA's depending on last name so you can copy other peoples voiethreads with a different TA than you. SOOO EASY
Easiest class at UA. Voice threads are super easy, just make sure you remember to do it. And most of the quizzes are on quizlet. Every lecture you watch is extra credit and if you turn your projects in early you get feedback and extra credit. Didn't do one quiz and one voice thread and still ended with a 101%.
I really enjoyed this class, if you read and do the work, you are guaranteed a solid grade. However, this class is heavy with technology and basically relies on it.
Literally the best professor at the U of A. Caring and nice. I took AFAS160 online, but I would bet any course he teaches is interesting, fun, and an a fair way to earn a good grade. This class does not require much effort. From what I've seen, the TAs do pretty much all of the grading. It consists of weekly quizzes online discussions and projects.
The class was pretty basic. Weekly voice threads (you can listen to others to get your answers) and quizzes. Two projects and one writing. Didnt have to do the reading because answers could be found online. You can use spark notes to do the midterm voice thread. Pretty easy class; required some effort for the projects but it was completely doable.
This is an easy gen ed if you put in the work. There are weekly voice threads that are on the readings that are assigned. There are two major projects which are not that hard to do. TAs do all of the grading and they can be tough at times.
One of the easiest course taken ever. Spend 1-2 hours per week on Voice Thread, and that's basically all needed to do. Quizzes are on Quizlet. Tons of easy extra credits. The final project worth 25 points, took me 7 hours. I didn't do the final paper and the last 2 voice thread because I already got over 100% before doing them.
Super easy and interesting gen ed. One voicethread each week which were basically participation points, no brain needed. A few projects/papers spaced out that require about 3 hours each. TA grades super easy as long as it looks like you put in the work.
This class is such an easy gen ed. There is a voice thread due every Friday and a paper and a video assignment. There are lots of opportunities to get extra credit too. I spend maybe 1 hour a week on this class. You do not need to buy the books either, waste of money. Mr. C is kinda rude in emails but will help you if you ask him things nicely.
Every quiz is on quizlet, and you don't even have to do the long readings if you read cliff notes and use a little common sense to string your own ideas together. There are two projects due in the class, one of them is just regurgitating info you can find online and the other requires zero critical thinking whatsoever. Easy gen ed.
I highly recommend taking this course. Weekly discussion posts take 30 minutes or less and there are a few, big assignments that can also be completed with ease. Worst syllabuses I have ever seen. This class is so disorganized and any questions result in a rude response from Carter. Occasionally frustrating, but an easy A with moderate effort.
Easy class. There are weekly voice threads that don't take too long to complete along with quizzes. There are a couple of lengthy papers/projects in this class. If you don't procrastinate on these you'll do just fine. Also a ton of extra credit.
One of the easiest Gen Eds I've taken. He gives a lot of extra credit and the graders are very helpful. He is a bit rude in emails, but if you ask the graders they can explain nicely. Books are not necessary, however, they are enjoyable. Put in the effort and you'll end up with an A.
great teacher! would definitely take again.
Bryan Carter friends recommended him and now he is honestly one of my favorite Gen Ed professors would highly recommend taking especially since attending class online is extra credit! If you do your assignments you are guaranteed a good grade plus everything is on quizlet.
Easiest class I have ever taken! I love this class! Take this class, get an A!
Pretty simple as long as you stay on top of things. There are a few big projects that are not hard at all, just brush up on the readings for the weekly voice threads and you're golden. Quizzes are on Quizlet and there are no tests.
Pathetic! He does not grade your work he pawns it off to unhelpful graders. The worst professor I have ever had! It's easy from the start of course, but his technology he uses has a lot of problems and errors and will result in stressful situations and you will most likely miss assignments because of technology problems and his disorganization.
This class was an easy gen ed. However, I found the professor to be unclear. When you asked him questions he simply told you to refer to his literal 30 page long syllabus. Although the class was easy, I did not find the professor to be helpful at all.
THIS CLASS IS A MUST! Easiest gen ed at the U of A. All of the quizzes are on quizlet, lots of examples on youtube that you can copy for your easy video assignments. I never got less than a 100% on each assignment in this class. Maybe 30 minutes of work per week on this class.
Best professor Ive had! Hes so passionate about what he does and his lectures are super soothing to listen to lol. Weekly voice threads but you can get good grades by piggybacking what other people have said before you. Quizzes are all on quizlet and the 2 big assignments dont require much effort, just turn something in. Easy A
VERY easy gen ed, stayed with an A all semester. There is ALOT of EC you can get in assignments and outside sources. You do need the book to references things & helps in understanding material more. Weekly voice threads are simple & nice, you can use other's ideas. Quizzes are on Quizlet, due dates are fairly split up. TA's grade everything.
Amazing professor. He truly cares about what he talks about and it shows! He is one of the nicest, caring and most respectable person I have ever met. The class is super easy as long as you do the work, and you'll probably get an A. AND HIS VOICE IS MENT FOR RADIO!!!
Dr. Carter is great! If you're lucky enough to have a chance to take one of his classes, please do! AFAS 160 was an online class but I had the opportunity to meet him in person during Black History month and can confirm he is as bubbly and kind in person as his online recordings are. He's great and you learn so much, 10/10 would recommend :)
This class was super easy to BS just about everything. The midterms and final exams are all writing assignments and one Audio/Video Project. Super easy graders. Quizzes are all on quizlet. Don't buy the textbook, its not worth it. VoiceThreads are due every week but you can just listen to the other voice threads & change it up. Tedious AF but easy
Dr. Carter's enthusiasm for teaching this class is what really made it worthwhile, especially given the current state of racial affairs in America. Lectures & readings are given weekly; pay attention to the readings, and you'll do well on the quizzes and Voice Thread assignments. Only 2-3 large projects; don't procrastinate, and you'll be good.
He's amazing! He cares so much about his students and education!
Absolute terrible teacher, he needs to use his own platform that you pay extra for, had to read more in his class than my entire time in college. He LOVES his VR headset and makes everyone use a different platform for that. Makes you listen to assignments through a VR recording making it annoying to get assignment details, TA's grade it all.
Makes you use multiple platforms that just get annoying when you go between them. Have to pay extra to use his grading platform. SO MUCH READING, and you cannot Sparknotes or Litcharts the book you actually need to read them. Don't let all these other reviews trick you, they're all majoring in AFAS so they have time to read the enormous amounts req
I cry most nights while looking at his grading website that you have to pay extra for. Do not take this course if you would like an easy class. I regret my decision heavily.
He gives opportunities for extra credit if you respond to other students' comments. TA's grade everything and are kinda hard to get ahold of within a timely manner, expect a couple of hours or even a few days for them to respond. The midterm was general enough to make it more difficult to complete. You need to be extremely detailed in all responses
if you're looking for an unorganized, date changing, unclear instructioned course, this is for you. btw he changed the mid term date 3 days before the mid term was due, he made us retake the syllabus quiz because he didn't fix it for this semester. if you want to get in contact with your grader, good luck. this class sucked wouldn't recommended it.
His rubrics are terrible. I wish I could attach a photo of some of these rubrics, he has categories for "not so cool" use of technology. I mean the class is a joke and that would be fine if I had the time to deal with it. Frankly I wouldn't be taking this class had these reviews been honest, but some of these kids are just meat riding the prof.
Dr. Carter won't even be grading your work, you're assigned a TA to do all his grading. Never read any books or attended the virtual classes, can easily google answers. There's 3 large assignments, a reflective essay, author discussion, av mixer. Do them on time because they can heavily drop your grade.
I didnt go to a single meeting and still got a B+. He makes TAs grade every thing so depending on which one you get can make or break your grade. If you respond to someone on voicethread you get easy extra credit. If you turn everything in on time you will pass. Every single quiz is on quizlet, so I never even got the books he assigned. Easy pass
Easy to pass. I didnt know this was an 8am bc it didnt tell me when I enrolled, but it was fine bc attendance is not mandatory. All quizzes are on quizlet and there are a lot of ec opportunities.
I had the opportunity of taking the online class which I would recommend taking. He doesn't use D2L and he used Spatial instead of zoom which I didn't like. You didn't have to attend lectures and were still able to pass. Join GroupMe for that class, it helps keep track of dates. The assignment rubrics are very vague, but not hard to pass. Got an A
Organizational nightmare. Prof uses much more chaotic "Notebowl" over D2L, uses "VoiceThreads" (spoken discussion posts) instead of regular written ones, insists you refer to his syllabus (like 15 cross-linked Google Docs) for everything, and A/V mix assignment is extremely vague. Quizzes not available online (per other responses).
Dr. Carter is a great lecturer and very passionate, but I took this class (like many people) mostly for an easy A in an online 7-week. This class is very interesting, but it definitely isn't the cruise that people say. Most assignments are "spoken", and acquiring the required materials is a big headache. Lots of opportunities for EC, though.
I really don't recommend this course to anyone. I was added to class late so there's some assignment I submit late and he don't even graded it
He doesn't even care about you, he doesn't know anything about these students. His TA are disgusting, he really has to change of them. His grading criteria are hilarious. I regret not dropping this course heavily.
He did not grade our last hw assignment AND he did not upload our grades for TWENTY DAYS. Over all this class fine, parts of it are really interesting. Easy to get an A, just a lot of reading. He comes off really well over the platform, but in emails he's extremely rude. No EC offered, but the class is so easy that it's not really even necessary.
He doesn't really care about his students much and was very unorganized throughout the semester. The syllabus was never followed so it was difficult to keep track of what was happening. He was clearly passionate about teaching, but I wouldn't recommend his class to those who prefer a more organized teaching style.
For an online gen-ed class it was difficult. A ton of readings are required.
I have barely started this winter class and am already overwhelmed. this class is unorganized, unclear assignments/projects, and doesnt follow course outline. The platforms he uses are confusing and hard to navigate. dont reccommend
This professor is the worst professor I've ever had, respectfully. He is unorganized, due dates on course schedule don't align with D2L, doesn't check in with students, barely answers questions, and so much more. I'm not even done w this class and it is the most annoying structure. He has external websites for discussions/quizzes, & arehard2adjust2
This is for the AI/XR Studio VIP course. Dr. Carter is so chill and he is very into XR and all that stuff that it makes you want to try it out. The three course professors had their moments, and XR was Carter's specialty. He is also very into music which I love. Everything made talking to Dr. Carter enjoyable and made me an admirer of his work.
