i had no interest in geology before this class i only took bc it was the only science that fit in my schedual but this guy is THE MAN!! he teaches the material so well and is real lenient about grading! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! this guy will make you want to major in geology after you take his class!

This teacher is the best. I didn't think I would like geology, but since it's not physics or chemistry, i tried it out. I'm so glad I ended up in professor Gibbs class. He made the hard stuff easy, and the easy stuff simple. He made thinking like a rock (a little) fun. :) (And I got an A!)

I really like him as a person, but not so much as a professor. He's REAL helpful, but his teaching style isn't too good. not organized at all. He gives you all the proper review, and exams are a mirror image of ur notes--if u take them. He just jumps around way too much for me, cool dude, but i had a hard time staying up while in class

Gibbs if freakin cool, He knows his stuff. Smart as hell and something sexy about how smart he is. Gives sooo much extra credit opportunity and fun field trips.

Gibbs is an uber smart professor. He is very disorganized, and that will frustrate you, but hang in there, he makes up for it with a relaxed grading style, and an easy going manner all around. He really does know his stuff, and now that I understand his style I will take his other classes next semester. O, and he does look damn good with a beard.

Took his summer session - lots of work, but he definitely wants students to succeed. Would recommend you take him, not an "easy A" ...must complete all of the assignments. It seems overwhelming at times, but he definitely tries his best to help students through the work.

Extremely unorganized professor. We didn't know our grades until they were on econnect. Other than that, really clear to teach, and helpful if you need help with lecture material or exercises. Attendance not mandatory. 3 or 4 tests plus homework and that's it. Reviews are extremely helpful.

Took 2 of his fast-track classes during spring, he is very passionate for the subject, very nice, and understanding. His lectures are very interesting as well as the labs.Lots of extra credit opportunities. Tests are hard but the review is identical to the test, just study and you will do good=)

Took his GEOL. 1401...and yes, Mr. Gibbs can be somewhat disorganized but he's an overall fantastic teacher. He'll bear with those behind, gives many extra cred. opps. Lec. tests are challenging, Attend. not so much req. But gotta be there for Lab! (his Online class has a hell'a lotta more work) Other than that he's a cool proff. I recommend him.

I loved this class. Mr. Gibbs makes this class very interesting. There is a lot of material and he does not believe in multiple choice tests. Get this, he actually wants you to LEARN something...This is college, get used to it. He is fast paced but the most helpful instructor I have ever had. If you attend class and do the work you will do well.

i highly recommend his class its lots of fun hes a great teacher. i took this class online he was very helpful his test are open book and the labs are fun and easy except for 2 however; if you go up to the campus he will help you finish them. he will also give you extra points on test if you go up there.

He is a great professor. I love going to class everyday because I learn something new and vital. This is my first class out of high school and he is different from any other teacher I have had so far. He actually wants you to learn - If you don't do well on the rock tests, he lets you redo them until you have mastered the material.

There was A LOT of work in this class but I love Earth Science so I did not mind it. I unfortunately procrastinated and since it was a summer class I ended up cramming in the end but he allowed me a few extra days to get everything done. I made an A and I did not even turn in all of the labs.I would suggest Mr. Gibbs.

I took this course online in the Fall 2013. I ended up getting behind, but Dr. Gibbs worked with me. He gave me time to get my work completed because he wants to make sure everyone passes his course. There are a lot of assignments, but you can work at your own pace. Great professor!

Professor Gibbs is an excellent instructor. There is a great deal of work (flex), but he works with you to get the work completed. He is passionate about the subject, but not so much that you hate taking the class. I would recommend him if you want an understanding instructor who enjoys their subject.

This online class is too much & the information given is not enough. Most instructors lighten up with online/summer work, but it seems this instructor doubles work. You may ask for help, but he don't respond w/helpful answers. I've taken 1401 with interest. 1402 with Gibbs online is hard because of the work overload, no real help & interest leaves.

Gibbs for Geology: watch movies, and get taught awesome lectures, had two tests: one was really difficult, the other "tell me everything you learned in this class". Gibbs for Physics: bluntly, you get out of it what you want. If you have a love and want to dig deeper, he will guide you. If you don't, he'll let you. Only 2 tests so far so good.

Professor Gibbs helps students by being prompt with communicating efficiently, and there are a bunch of assignments so it's easier to pass. Assignments during the regular semesters are due at the beginning of every month, and during the summer are due on the last week of the term. It's very easy to procrastinate, so be careful.

I took physics 2425 in the fall. We worked problems almost everyday. The tests weren't hard because we already worked a million problems. BRING BOOK EVERYDAY

Gibbs is a little unprofessional and views the syllabus as more of a loose guideline that a law set in stone. However, if you can adapt to occasional changes you'll find that he's an amazing teacher. He understands and loves physics, and he'll pay attention to any questions or comments you have. Just study the material and you'll have a great time.

He's a highly intelligent scientist who loves sharing his knowledge. He does talk very fast, but if you ask questions he is more than willing to go into more detail on a subject until you understand. His tests are killer, though, so study hard for those. Other than that he's a fantastic professor.

I took his Geology 1401 class online. Must I say, there was a lot of assignments, mostly quizzes and tests over what you read. Also, he's easy on the labs, and offers to give an extension as long as you started your work except quizzes & tests. He cared for his students, and replied to emails very quick. I would take it again if I had the chance.

Great online class. Organized nicely. Professor work with you and responded to emails and calls quick. There are a few major assignments that count for most of your grade. The online quizzes were hard, but I got some extra credit on other assignments.

He was hilarious and a friendly professor. I took him for summer II and I enjoyed coming to class everyday. Labs are kind of long but easy. Just study your notes and you will do fine. He tries to answer all your questions as best as he can, but this is not an easy course.

He's a great guy, and he cares about his students. However, he is not very organized. Doesn't assign homework, so you don't know what types of problems to study, and his tests are difficult. Also takes his time grading tests. If you are a math major, he will annoy you, because he is not very thorough in his mathematics.

Gibb's lectures are never boring, but his tests will make you sweat bullets. The overall experience was like boot camp for the mind. He really enjoys teaching physics so take his class!

Professor Gibbs is a cool and so funny. He's a really lenient person and gives half points on test questions (I had him for math). He is not mean at all so he won't shut the class up so he can teach. If your class is loud, be prepared to learn in a loud area. You won't learn a lot if you don't ask him to explain himself.

Mr. Gibbs was an amazing instructor, one of the greatest I've ever had! Great lectures, lots of documentary-watching... His tests are incredibly easy to prepare for and he is considerate and underhandedly humorous. There's not any homework unless you don't finish his (easy) labs. Would definitely recommend this class whether or not you need it!

I took his fast track class expecting a difficult time, but it was the opposite experience and the class turned out to an easy A. He genuinely cares about his students and is willing to work with anyone to better their grade for the class. He is very knowledgeable about the subject and his lectures are interesting. If you take GEO take him!

I took his online class for GEO 1402. By far the easiest class I've taken. Just do the work and you will pass! He has isn't strict about due date as long as you turn it in before 7 days. He lacks communication, but all the discussion and labs are straightforward. He basically just grades on participation. Highly Recommend.

Easy A, you don't have to attend classes to get an A, but you do learn stuff if you show up. Ask him anything about Geology and he will answer you.I'm not science major so I found bored in his class, however, learning stuff around you and it explains how the Earth works are fun.

I took his class online and it was pretty easy. It wasnt difficult to do online labs. He gives a due date for a chunk of work and lets you do it at your own pace as long as its turned in by the given date.

I am currently going for my geophysics degree at UTD, and I am so happy I decided to take prereqs with him! He allows you to do everything at your own pace. He tries to help you as much as possible. Good course material with videos and condensed notes. He's flexible and approachable. Overall a positive experience where I learn some extremely interesting things.

Professor Gibbs was great. I took him over the summer session online. Wasn't too excited about a group project. I think someone complained about being able to get everyone together so he gave the option of doing a power point of places we'd like to visit its geological features. The labs were fun. I would take him again.

Amazing class and amazing professor. Responds to emails quickly and very helpful when needing help or late assignments. Lots of work but quite easy. As long as you do the work youll get an A. Long essay about 30 pages at end of semester but not hard at all. Highly recommend this class and professor !

Took Prof. Gibbs irl and it was an all-time favorite class. Half the class was lectures and watching documentaries. Other half was Lab where he would give you full marks on any mini quizzes or lab work as long as you put in some effort. The only real exams we had were midterms and finals, and he even gave us a material review before the exams began

Professor Gibbs worked with me to help finish the class. I had a death in the family and also got sick for 2 weeks, but he let me turn in the work and get caught up.

I loved this class. Professor Gibbs made Physics 1 interesting to learn. I took this class during the summer term, yes it was face paced, but prof. Gibbs made it worthwhile. The midterm and final were fairly easy, he goes over everything/concepts in class. And he gives lots of extra credit. I 10/10 RECOMMEND HIM

I took this class during spring and left with a better perspective about many things after leaving. The material is very easy to memorize as long as you don't slack. I never thought I would leave a lecture being fascinated by rocks and the significance of Earth in our universe. He's willing to help and available to talk to outside of class.

you will need lab kit but Chegg definitely helps. 12 labs, 12 Homework assignments, 4 Discussion boards and 6 exams which quizlet helps

Took a hybrid class where all the classwork was done online and we met one day per week for the labs. The labs are done in groups, theres a lab every week. He gives out a lot of extra credit if you miss a lab. Midterm and final were very similar to the review. He is very funny and very helpful, but bware, he doesn't really answer emails right away

Professor Gibbs is such a caring professor! His work is straightforward, but with room for mistakes. He does not use a textbook and provides many resources for learning instead. The work is not difficult, but it is time consuming. As long as you do the work, you will pass the class with flying colors!

A kind professor and he is always willing to help with labs. His Midterm and Final are short answer questions, and he has diverse and interesting labs. Overall an easy A if the effort is put in. Most class time will be in a dark room during videos or slideshow lectures. I 100% recommend.

This professor is AMAZING! I took this class online and it is very organized to help you succeed! The work is very easy if you put in the effort/ time. This professor is one of the best ones I've had. I learned so much in this class. There were a variety of different assignments that kept me interested. He responds back to emails quickly and all assignment instructions are clear and concise.

The previous rating said that the videos were outdated. He is wrong. There haven't been any discoveries that would disprove Maxwell's Equations. Hence, the documentaries are still valid.

Took Professor Gibbs last semester for PHYS 2425, I just wish I was able to take him for PHYS 2426 as he is very understanding, and would respond to emails and explain everything. Highly recommended!

Amazing professor, genuinely cares about you passing the class IF YOU PUT THE WORK IN. Go to class, his lectures teach you so much and although they might not be as rigorous as physics II class in another university, you learn a lot more. Incredibly interesting and although there is a lot of hw (Pearson) do it one day at a time. Exams are doable

I took this as an online class in which I needed another science credit. Overall my experience with the course was actually pretty cool since I learned a lot about geology. I wished I managed my own time better though but still the class is great. Also be prepared to watch lectures when you do the discussions because the answers are in the videos.

This professor has everything open until the last day of class. Therefore, you can work on it any time that you like! He is a highly extraordinary professor! You can talk to him after class! If you submit everything, you can approach him in class and request credits! Highly recommended!

Gibbs is a passionate professor who spent way too much time on the history and ideas of physics instead of the math and methods. He is the most ADHD professor I've ever had so lectures were not helpful. I would take him if you want an easy grade since most are essays but if you want to learn physics you will need to do more than his lectures

I had taken professor Gibbs PHYSICS CLASS this fall 2025. He is super nice. If you want easy A grade then I highly recommend him. I am also going to take his class for PHYS2426 again in spring 2026.

This class is challening for learning the material and in his class there's tons of hw it's mostly easy tho. But he gives you everything you need to understand electromagnetism he is very flexible and understanding and wants people to succeed. Gibbs is nice and as long as you keep up with the work and spend a lot of time studying you will be fine
