Offers help constantly, very good lectures, must read all chapters well for test

His quizzes are really hard, but not that bad of a class
he's a good professor, i would recommend him
Weird guy, goo professor, class is not bad if you attend regularly
Lectures are very structured, offers extra credit
it was easy to pull of an A if you went to class and studied
hard class

tests on minor details in the book. But easy if you take notes and read chapt. Alot of busy work, you you'll get ur A
Lots of details, but I did note cards for vocab and I got an A so not too bad
excellent professor. very helpful, and very clear notes. puts notes on overhead, all tests are taken directly from overheads.

Good prof choice if taking Intro Psy. He gives you two quizzes every other week, which aren't that bad, just put your time in, and then also, he gives up to 8% extra credit if you participate in experiments...not bad, can be an easy A, and is interesting

This class is a piece of cake

He is rude and unhelpful. This class is a huge pain in the butt!!
Crap load of work. No exams, though. Actually kind of interesting to learn how to run experiments. BAD communication problems. Mixes up the syllabus so you don't even know when things are due, then doesn't answer email. Very unclear on things.
easy class, lots of extra credit, if you do the practice test on his website than you'll ace all the quizes

the class is awesome...he is a good teacher and knows what he is talking about....crack the book once in a while and you should get at least a B.
I am not a PSY major or minor but he makes me want to consider it. GREAT TEACHER. a little work and go to class and it's an A.
Very easy class. If you go to it, you should get an A. Reading also helps. All quizzed, optional Final. A lot of extra credit. Knows his stuff, overall good prof.
crap load of work, quizes are every two weeks over three chapters, very indepth. He is the most unhelpful teacher I ever had in all my years. Does not care if you pass or not. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS despite what you here elsewhere
A lot of work!! Quizes ever other week. Make sure you do the reading and take good notes.
He knows his stuff really well. Although, he can be quite an ass when you need help. He doesn't seem to care whether or not you pass. Read the chapters, pay attention to his lectures, and study the night or two before and you'll get at least a B.

Good teacher--made me consider a PSY major. His quizzes require studying, but the book was excellent (i kept it) and it felt good to take quizzes as opposed to tests. Take this class if you want to enjoy the topic and do not mind reading the text
He is horrible. He talks in monotone and it is so easy to fall asleep.I would recommend taking a different teacher if at all possible.I wish that I would have read this website before I took him.

He made his lectures more interesting with clips and videos. It was easier because he give 15 question quizes every other week, as opposed to 3 big test with a lot of info.
Super Easy class. I took it in summer and we had 6 exams with optional final and up to 8% of total grade worth of extra credit. It was interesting because of all the wierd examples and movies he showed us. Exams were very easy multiple choice and SA.
Easy...fun...nice...good lectures
Good teacher, class was all lecture. He used lots of helpful video clips to get the point across, very helpful. Tests were MC/SA 6 total w/ an optional final. Doesn't really seem to care if you do well, doen't seem to like to help outside of class. Loves texas hold'em, plays for $
Rude and will correct you if you EVER call Him Mr. instead of Dr. Doesnt seem to care much about your success at CMU. Avoid HIm!!!!!!!!!! Trust this review. I am a former teacher who is back in school for another degree.
he was rude and very unhelpfull. Thinks he;s is better then most of the other professors and all studetns. Very judgmental. The test were very hard, no matter how much review you do it is very hard to get a good grade. Do not take this teacher!!!!
Brian Gibson, you are the rudest Professor I have ever encountered in my academic career. You need to treat all of the students better.Just because you have a doctorate degree does not make you better than the rest of society.I hope Dr. Rao reads this because you need to go!
Approable and friendly. Presented interesting examples in class and geniunely seems to be interested in the subject matter!
gives a lot of extra credit oppertunities but all his class consists of is quizzes. so if your not a good test taker then i consider you think about a different teacher
For sure do not take this class if you are not a good test taker. The only thing Gibson grades are quizzes he never gives out homework or anything. His lectures are really boring as well. The only good thing that he does is he gives extra credit to raise your grade at the end of the year.
Gibson rocked. I had so much fun, we watched clips from shows like the Simpsons. He relates everything like that...clips from the Godfather. I don't get the bad comments. He shows up in t-shirts and we watch clips....How hard is that?
Took the distance learning soci. psych. class. It wasn't too bad, but I turned in my journal early so I could get the hasten the end of class & somehow it got lost. There's a lot of material to cover, and you're also required to do a journal so be prepared to work hard.
Uses questions right from the book's CD review. Answer question through office hours or e-mails very quickly. And reviews before tests in class. He curves each test to the highest score in the class. And gives great extra credit opportunities.
I dont' know what everybody's talking about him being rude. I thought he was the best prof i've had in this school. maybe you guys are just spoiled by lenient profs or just plain stupid. You do have to study a lot, tho, i'll admit that.
He is a good prof, but the class was not my favorite. I didn't like having a quiz every friday.
Definately not my favorite, but the quizzes are easy
this class sucks. its horriably set up and the quizes suck. every quiz is on friday so how the hell are u suppose to do good if u party. there class is rediculous no one take it with this teacher unless you wnat to spend your thursday nights reading psyc
Great Class despite what other people are saying. Quizes were every friday, but pretty simple. His lectures were pretty interesting, since this was my first psy class it was all new material to learn. I enjoyed going to class. Just make sure that if you go out on thur nights you study during the day on thurs!
Great teacher. Stop crying about Friday quizzes; stupid freshmen. Maybe you should drop out of college if you see a problem when class interferes with partying. Get your priorities straight, or at least be smart enough to not take a Friday class if you don't care about school. This class is interesting and an easy A. Just study for the quizzes.
I liked Dr. G. He was a pretty cool guy. The final was easy because he gave us all the previous tests to study from and the exact same questions were on the final exam.
Prof. Gibson is a nice guy, explains everything really well and makes it as simple as possible... i would recommend taking this class with him... especially if your majoring or minoring in psych... he will keep u interested
Very Clear and lectures along with the notes exactly. Awesome class.
Dr. Gibson is an okay professor. He gives quizes on two to three chapters every two weeks and gives you the questions to the essays. If you study and read the chapters, you will do good. Don't bother on going to class if you read, b/c he basically just says what the book says.
He's an awesome guy, it's obvious that he's really into the subject. The lectures are not boring and he often encorporates TV show video clips into class. Mon/Wed are lecture, Fridays are quizzes. You're allowed to drop your 2 lowest quiz scores at the end of the semester. He doesn't take attendance, so that is nice. Very interesting stuff.
To be in Gibsons class you got to know yourself, there is a quiz every friday and the quiz comes strait from the lecture on Mondays and Wednesdays, so if you dont come to class you might have a hard time. He lets you drop up your 2 lowest test grades and the final is optional. up to 8% extra credit. I did well but i did the work
He loves psychology. If you are planning on majoring or minoring in psychology definitely take his class. Very Interesting and fun! The quizzes are not that difficult.
Pretty easy class. You have to study a little bit more than just reading your notes. Dr. Gibson's a nice guy too.
hes ok, can be an **** though
Good professor and his lectures are very detailed. There is ALOT of book reading but its worth it and his grading makes it easy to bring your grade up. Definetly a good class.
His lectures are very interesting and he uses cool examples, stories, tv clips, etc. I found that it was only necessary to pay attention while taking notes, read over those notes, and read chapter summaries before quizzes. I only had to take 12 of the 13 quizzes and no exam and still got an A. I would recommend Dr. G over other profs.
It is a hard class and the tests are difficult, but he compensates by making it easier to do well in class. Lots of video clips that help class go by. His power points are awful and not very helpful. I found no difference on test scores from reading the book and going to class, but read the book anyways, it will help explain his poor lectures.
Hard tests, but he is a very good teacher. He makes everything interesting, you just need to pay attention and study to do well.
Probably my favorite teacher. once you know what to study and if you pay attention to him, you'll do amazing.
Awesome guy. For someone who wasn't interested and dreaded this class, he really made it interesting and funny. He'll play little "Simpsons" clips to get points across. Quiz every Friday, 14 MC ?'s and 1 short answer. He actually gives you the S/A before the quizzes. Read and listen to him and this class will be simple. Take this with him.
This guy is one awesome teacher!! There are lectures on Monday and Wednesday and a quiz over the chapters lectured on Friday. Quizzes can be a bit tricky but if you actually study and try than you will do fine! I averaged a 90 on quizzes but the class overall averaged about a 60. As long as you are willing to put in the effort than you will do fine
I loved this class! It was easy to follow if you read the chapters before he lectures on them. If you do that there is no reason not to do good in the class. There are quizes on Friday's but they are easy if you read and listen in lecture. The final is optional and he offers the opportunity for up to 8% extra credit added onto your grade. Easy clas
Took this class online. Doesn't respond to emails. He didn't seem to want to teach the course. AVOID THIS PROF!
This class was great! Quizzes every Friday, but super easy if you go to class and read. He single-handedly turned me from a Business Major to Psych which I now LOVE. Lectures are interesting and he was really willing to help. A+ for him... and me!!
This teacher is extremely arrogant & unhelpful. AVOID at all cost because he treats his students like they're nothing. Class material is easy but final proposal is a joke.
LOVED this teacher! Gave great examples and wrote tests from lectures. Final proposal is only worth 15% of your final grade, making it not too stressful. Take notes and study from them for the test and you'll do great.
At first I didn't really care for Dr. Gibson because he came of as little arrogant and unwilling to help. Then when we worked on our final proposals I had a question on an assignment and he was extremly helpful!! It is up to you to seek help if needed, he is wiling to help. The class was fairly easy, take good notes and read your book!
A pretty good prof. Go to class, take lecture notes, study before exams. Pretty easy, pretty straightforward - he's not out to torture or confuse anyone. He might come across as distant from his students, but that's just his demeanor - he's pretty easy to talk to/deal with. Nice guy - I would strongly recommend him for all PSY students.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. His notes were incomplete and reading the book gives you a much better understanding of definitions and the material, although the book is deadthly boring. He has an arrogant attitude. His grading system for extra credit is a lie. This class could have been sumed up in half the time. EXTREMELY BORING,
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. His notes were incomplete and reading the book gives you a much better understanding of definitions and the material, although the book is deadthly boring. He has an arrogant attitude. His grading system for extra credit is a lie. This class is a waste of time and money.
If you like a professor who could care less about his students, make you wait for him to get to class, no respond to emails when you don't understand stuff, make a waste of class by showing tv shows he likes, doesn't accept the hours of extra credit you did, and has tests that are extremely hard you'll love him...
He did show up on time for class one time. He ends early everyday and wont answer your questions. He really is too cocky and not willing to help you. He does not give you credit for your extra credit and his exams are made with the intent to harm you. The questions are worded like a maze. Dont take his class.
I had a great experience with him for both classes I took from Dr. G. He is very enthusiastic and is genuinely interesting to listen to. If you go to his office hours, he will help you with anything. You definitely need to study for his tests though!
He is a very good teacher. If your idea of a good class is to go when you want, take notes when you want, and take the final exam if you want, try Bryan Gibson for Intro into Psych
Good presentation of all ideas in the course
This class was really fun. I loved the quizzes every Friday even though I waited until Thursday morning to study for them. Quizzes were easy the essay questions were annoying. I learned a lot and thanks to him I REALLY LOVE PSYCHOLOGY!!
I loved Dr. Gibson's class and I took it during the summer when we had to be there every day for three hours I was neve bored. He uses a lot of interesting examples to help you understand concepts he's teaching. He shows clips from Friends which helps when you're trying to remember things. Gives BB quizzes & pulls test questions from them. Take him!
The class is interesting and I enjoyed going. The tests are SUPER hard.. I studied my butt off and failed 3 of the 6 exams. He does make the class fun though, just read the book and study hard.
Good Teacher, took it online over the summer and it was way better than taking it with Jaffa! He expects the work done but very easy to commuciate with. This was my 2ndtime taking it. Took it with Jaffa=D- with.. Gibson online= A- worth takin over the summer for sure!!
I didn't like this class at the beginning because the quizzes werent clearly defined. But after you get a feel for them they are extremely easy. They are every Friday but that is okay because you know what to except from the notes and example quizzes.Drop the lowest 2 quizzes Get 8% extra credit. You have a choice to take the final, it drops 3 more
Great Teacher! I read each bolded term in the textbook before each quiz and memorized their definitions. Never received a quiz grade under 90%! Recommended!
This class has a lot of reading and an enormous amount of test questions that have to be done for the practice assessments. Each chapter has at least 150 practice questions. Beware!
Very Easy if you can read!! you get one week to read about 50 pages. Yes, thats less than 10 pages a night (pictures included) He gives you the short answers to his tests and there are online quizes for you to use. He pulls some questions straight off those quizes! Great teacher, great class!
Pretty straight-forward class. Weekly quizzes, lowest two quiz scores are dropped. The final is optional and can replace 3 additional quiz scores. All notes are online.
Great Professor. Puts things into college terms, learned very much from him. If you show up for all weekly quizzes your golden.
Excellent professor. You have a quiz every Friday and he takes all of his questions from the practice quizzes he provides on Blackboard. He also drops your two lowest quiz scores automatically. He made psychology very interesting and I learned a lot. Thanks to him, my minor is psychology now!! :)
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! He is a horrible professor who seems like he couldn't care less about his students. He is never on time and will not answer a single question. His "extra credit" is a lie. The book was the only thing that got me through this class.
I took PSY 330 as an online class. He's a great professor who cares about his students. He really doesn't want any of his students to fail. You do need to put in the time and effort to read the chapters. He takes the questions on his exams from his study guides which really help.
Stay away from this professor. He makes it quite clear that he doesn't care about his students and he doesn't want to be teaching.
Gibson is a great professor. When he is lecturing you can tell that he really enjoys what he is doing. You have two lectures and then a quiz every week. He gives you every opportunity to do well in his class. He provides flashcards and practice quizzes on blackboard. He also sets up review sessions the day before your quiz with his TA/GAs.
Gibson is very helpful when it comes to preparing for the test. He gives a test every Friday that is worth 20 points and an optional final exam. Material is very hard if you do not read the book. Best advice...STUDY for the test! :)
I took this class online and it was so easy and he was a great professor! Provided options for extra credit and material to review for exams! Also had him as a prof. for PSY100 and loved him for that as well! GREAT psych professor!
Absolutely amazing lectures, very interesting man.
He was NEVER there to help any of the students. It took 2 weeks for him to get back to you by email. When you're an online student it's extremely helpful to get one back within a couple of days. The assignments were confusing, and he never explained what to study for the tests. So pick a spot in the textbook and just start reading and memorizing.
Wouldnt take his class again, thats for sure, waaaaaaaaaay tooo much studying for a 100 level class. To study, the best thing to do is to take the practice quiz he posts on BB. I found them to be most reliable for the material on the actual quiz. The class can be interesting but hes helpfull and doesnt care about students. Do excredit easy
Study the material he covers in lecture and use the book to help understand those topics better. The tests are difficult but the curve makes it more fair. He can seem unapproachable and doesn't care, but he just wants you to work hard and then he will help you out. Helps a lot for the research proposal! I would take him again.
Amazing professor. His lectures were always interesting. It was apparent that he was very enthusiastic about the subject, which made the class more enjoyable. The quizzes and exams were info straight from the lectures, so nothing was a surprise. I would take the class again in a heartbeat.
Professor Gibson is an amazing professor! I was having in trouble in his class and he went above and beyond for me. He offers a lot of extra credit. He is willing to help anyway he can and gives you good advice on study skills. His lectures are very clear and entertaining!
I would recommend him to anyone! He gives a lot of extra credit. Has super easy quizzes every FRI. The quizzes are 14 multiply choice Q's and 1 short answer, which he gives you the short answer Q's before so you can study them and then picks one for the quiz. Drops 2 lowest quizzes. No exams in the class besides the final which isn't mandatory.
This class was easy. I never opened my book just did the practice tests and passed with an A. You also have an opportunity to add 8% to your final grade with extra credit. There is a small quiz every week though but if you prepare with the practice quizzes they are exactly the same. Would recommend for a first year student of a GPA booster.
A test every Friday and you review for it on Mondays and Wednesdays
Lectures are very entertaining. He is really into psychology. BUT talking to him personally after lecture & in his office hours, he can be rude.
The lectures are very interesting to listen to, but do not help you on the quizzes what so ever. You have to do the reading and he is very rude if you go up to him and ask him any questions. He usually says, "look at the syllabus" every single time I ask him anything. Some lectures are extremely fun to sit through, but do not help you what so ever!
Quiz every Friday that you review for Monday & Wednesday. Textbook is a must, you have to read every chapter to pass the quizzes. Offers up to 8% extra credit on your final grade by participating in experiments through SONA.
I took this as an online class. Dr. Gibson did an excellent job setting up this online class with plenty of tips in the syllabus on how to do well. If you follow his instructions and put in the required time, you will do well. Practice quizzes provided invaluable, but exercise caution, some of the answers in the practice quizzes are not correct.
He does quizzes every Friday, so you have to go to every lecture to pass. The lecture are very helpful if you pay attention. He offers great extra credit. DO IT. It can raise you a whole letter grade. He was a great professor. I would recommend taking his course.
Dr. Gibson is a good professor. Quizzes every friday on 1 chapter each. Read the chapter (roughly 40 pages) and take notes mostly on vocab. Dont just memorize, quiz requires that you UNDERSTAND the concepts. Quizzes are 14 MC, 1 short answer. TONS of extra credit. Up to 8% on final grade!! For that reason in itself i would take Gibson.
Very straightforward class. 2 Lectures on Mon and Wed and then a Quiz on Friday with 14 multiple choice and one short answer. Didn't read the textbook very much, just did the practice quizzes on BB and studied the vocabulary and passed with an A. Great prof, he's really funny and his lectures are interesting. I would definitely take him again.
Gibson is a really good teacher, because it's a big lecture class though its a little tough to get some one on one help if you need it but his TA's are always helpful. There are quizzes every Friday and they can screw you over so paying attention is important. He gives a lot of extra credit through the sona-system and drops quiz grades a lot too.
Good professor for such a big lecture hall. Quizzes are every Friday (13 total), best 11 count toward grade. If you have a roommate or friend that took the class, borrow their past quizzes; he keeps A LOT of the questions the same. Doesn't cover all the material so you have to read some. Optional final exam. EC for volunteering for psych studies.
Good professor overall. Everything you need to know about the class is on the syllabus. If you study, you should do well enough, and even if you don't you can get up to 8% extra credit. I would NOT pay $20 for Tophat, he says you need it, but we didn't use it once. Waste of money.
The class was moderate because the matter presented was some times confusing! He used a lot of clips in class to make things more clear. The best ting about his class was the extra credit given, it really saved my grade!
Homework assignments are vague, exams are difficult (several correct answers - choose the "best"), and you know his political affiliation by the end of the first class (as well as throughout). Kind of rude when you talk to him one-on-one, and when you have a valid point, he "corners" you into thinking you're wrong. Not a fan.
We have a quiz every week on Friday. Easy A if you show up and listen to lectures and follow along in the book. Final is optional as long as you're passing the class. Quizzes are short. Grading is very clear.
Professor Gison's PSY100 class is a straight forward college course. He's a little monotone but you get used to it. You HAVE attend every lecture as there is a quiz every Friday, and you HAVE to read a little bit every week to get an A. But if you just go to class, you're guaranteed at least a C.
He is very clear when lecturing and gives relatable examples. He only does quizzes every friday, no tests. Quizzes are easy if you do the practice quizzes and flashcards provided on blackboard. Would definitely recommend as a teacher.
He's a great professor. Honestly, I never went into his office hours because I never needed help with anything. If you show up to class and take good notes, and study the short answer questions he provides you before each quiz, you will be fine. Quiz every Friday, 2 lowest are dropped and final is optional. Some chapters I don't even need to read.
Only class I've had so far that I actually enjoyed the lectures!! He shows clips from movies and TV shows to help explain certain disorders and what not. If you take notes in Lecture and study the short answer questions before each quiz, you'll pass. Also, he allows you to participate in Psychology studies in Sloan and earn up to 8% Extra Credit!!
I made the mistake of skipping some classes and that is why my grade isn't as high as I would have liked. But he is a very nice guy and good professor in general.
I really liked Gibson because he made psych really enjoyable to learn, provided an outline to follow along during class with movie clips. Only quizzes on Friday and no tests, the final exam is optional and can only help your grade. Provides extra credit. Really have to study for the quizzes and provides all short answer questions on blackboard.
I really liked Gibson because he made psych really enjoyable to learn, only lectures and an outline to follow along with. Only quizzes on Friday and no tests, the final exam is optional and can only help your grade. Provides extra credit. Really have to study for the quizzes and provides all short answer questions on blackboard.
Dr. Gibson gives amazing lectures that are easy to get into and easy to understand. He really wants students to pass and offers up to 8% extra credit. He gives a weekly quiz on Fridays, and it is never more than 15 questions. He has online practice quizzes for each chapter and short answers that could appear on the quiz. Show up for lectures!
Didn't like the class at all. Gibson is VERY rude when one on one. Not interested if you need help or are confused. Quizzes every Friday. Did not have a good experience in this class.
50 minute lectures twice a week (M/W) with quizzes every Friday. Slideshows are horrible so you really have to listen to get the notes. Zone out? You're screwed.
Quiz every Friday with lecture every Monday and Wednesday. Would recommend going to every class, I rarely opened the textbook and got mostly 85% on the quizzes solely from my lecture notes. Offers up to 8% extra credit, but do it early or there won't be many studies available. An A is almost guaranteed if you show up, take decent notes, and do E.C.
Personally, I was not a fan of Dr. Gibson due to him being rude and not really willing to help out. However, he set up his class extremely well. Lectures on Monday and Wednesday are usually pretty interesting, and on Friday there is a quiz with 14 MC questions and one short answer. If you go to class and read the chapters you will pass for sure.
Gibson is a great professor; as long as you attend lecture and take notes you'll get a good grade. Only grades are 1 quiz a week and the final is optional (he also drops a couple quiz grades). Lots of extra credit is available if you participate in studies and he always posts practice quizzes.
he shows up right as class starts and leaves right as class ends, so he doesn't give any time for questions. final was ridiculously hard , long, and cumulative. gives quizzes once a week.
Professor Gibson is still one of the best professors I have had at Central! He is very passionate about his work and includes examples for class, and he was really friendly outside of class, too. The set up of his class makes it pretty easy to get an A, but reading the book is helpful on quizzes. SI sessions also helped for his quizzes!
He is one of the funnest and funniest profs I think i'll ever have. Please show up t class and take notes and you'll do fine on his weekly quizzes.
Professor Gibson is a easy teacher to have. He's funny and gives very interesting lectures. You seriously don't have to show up for any of the lectures. He puts all the power points online and just buy the book and you can home-teach yourself. I got a B, but I could have easily gotten an A and probably showed up to class probably 35% of the times
Going to be as fair. Gives u 8% extra credit if your willing to put forth work. Bryan after that is complete aids and i recommend you kys if you take this class. REQUIRED to show up to class unless your very smart, his 2 students love to take off 2point off your short answer questions so you at max get 90% and chances are you arent getting an A.
Quizzes every Friday but they are very easy & you get to drop your 2 lowest scores. The final exam is optional. Tons of extra credit opportunities. Do the practice quizzes on blackboard because they are almost identical to the actual quiz. He also gives you the short answer question that will be asked on the quiz.
Real simple for PSY100 find someone else, you have to read a min 30 pages a week and take hard notes in class to get a decent grade, he is very rude, but make sure you check the syllabus cause he might screw you over with 1 of his many exceptions to his own rules.
Great professor! Quite intimidating at first, but not that bad as we got into the semester. VERY lecture heavy and lectures fast, but go to the lectures, attendance isn't taken, therefore not mandatory, but if you go to the lectures you won't even need the textbook. Utilize the short answer questions and practice quizzes given. Lots of extra credit
Course was poorly taught. Tests were based on material not found in textbook or lectures. Quiz every week. Class three times a week. Attendance not mandatory but if you miss you're lost. Not accessible, was not willing to help students other than the EX-C opportunity (taking a PSY survey for use by a different class).
Dr. Gibson seemed to be very knowledgeable in the field of social psych, but his way of presenting material was somewhat difficult to comprehend. His class was 100% lecture and they got lengthy/boring. Bullet points on his slides were unclear and made taking notes difficult. Study hard for exams since they make up most of grade. Lots of ex credit!
I took this class via the online format. It was a very interesting class with relevant projects, interesting videos and assignments to supplement the materials, and plenty of study guides and options for extra credit. I found Dr. Gibson to be prompt in responding to e-mailed questions and he gave serious attention and good detail in his responses.
Not a psych major or minor or anything, but I loved his lectures. Very interesting & exciting to learn about. Buy and read the textbook!!! He shares good online resources-use them! Tests are only hard if you dont study.
Prof Gibson is very knowledgeable and very interesting to listen too. His lectures are very helpful and important so you should go every time. Buy the book and read it or else you wont do well. Also utilize his practice quizzes they are extremely helpful for the actual quizzes!
Gibson is very interesting however I study very hard for tests and do not do very well. He gives lots of extra credit opportunity and going to class is not mandatory.
Dr. Gibson is a very interesting man. He has a lot of stories to tell and loves to tell them. Although when it comes to lectures, be prepared to write so fast that your hand will feel like it is falling off. He flies through his power points. He does give extra credit opportunities. Tests are extremely hard if you do not study.
His lectures make little sense. He goes off on tangents every class which makes it really hard to follow the lecture notes. He's a little bit crazy as well. Don't speak your opinion on anything politics related because you WILL get yelled at and have a big debate in class. you would think its easy bc of the 100 level class but nope. good luck
Gibson is a rally smart guy, and his teaching style is exactly what I expected coming into college. Very lecture based. 7 quizzes, 2 lowest get dropped. Those are your only grades so make sure you study. Quizzes are over the material he teaches in class, and two chapters in the book. If you study, go to class, and don't be lazy... you'll be fine.
Dr. GIbson is a great guy, very knowledgeable in the subject. However, the class involves 7 quizzes and in order to score well on them you HAVE to read the chapters. The final is optional and if you take the final he will drop your two lowest quiz grades. Good luck!
I actually enjoyed him a lot. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! It is a safety blanket for you if you are failing/struggling in the class! My rough estimate of my grade for this semester lies on a C+. With the extra credit it bumped me to a B-! Pay attention in class, lecture and text count for quizzes! Do NOT miss out, you are basically screwed!
There are quizzes over what we learned every other week. Overall the class isn't too hard but you should do reading on your own despite the lectures in class. He provides practice quizzes and study materials on blackboard to help. Overall a very good class.
terrible
Prof Gibson is a great teacher who tells you exactly what you need to do in order to pass the class. His lectures are very important, and if you miss one, you'll have a lot of catching up to do. He is, however, quite funny and clearly loves what he does, and he gives off good vibes during class. Not an easy class, but definitely worth taking.
His tests were very hard especially for a 100 level course. His classes would either be super productive or very off topic, so it was hit or miss. Definitely dont skip class because his tests cover both book material and the things that he says in lecture that arent in the book.
Do not take this class. Professor Gibson is knowledgeable in this field of study but this class is ridiculous. He talks way too fast. I started out with writing my notes and had to go to laptop because I couldn't keep up. Exams are the hardest I've ever taken. He gives you nothing to prepare for them. Extra credit is what is keeping me alive.
He is a great guy, but sucks as a professor. I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM. I had to drop this class and retake it at a community college over the summer. Super hard, do not take it with him. Try deb poole instead!!
Lectures are very boring and he tends to talk rather quickly. Exams are extremely difficult and he does not provide study guides. He is also very disorganized which makes turning in assignments difficult.
Bryan loves his work and is super funny. Exams were hard if you didn't prepare but he gives out a lot of extra credit. I got 60-68 on all the exams but ended the class with a b- He is lecture heavy but they are fun- he gives specific examples that helps the materials stick. This class was hard, but it wasn't impossible. He will help you if needed!
Talks fast and doesn't have notes, just talking points so you have to write down what you think is important. Final Grade is made up of exams and portfolio. Wasn't vert helpful during office hours, just made me feel dumb. Exams are hard and scenario based but drops lowest grade and has a curving system. Basically the class is boring and hard.
The way he presents material is horrible and exam questions are 100% out to get you. I should have checked reviews beforehand, because I have never done so poorly in a class for my major and had to literally pull my grade from the trenches. I worked so hard before exams and would get 65-75% every time and be so discouraged... dont take this course
Lectures half the material and expects you to teach yourself the rest. test are absolutely ridiculous and barley relate to what he discusses in class. extra credit helps but best advice is to find another professor.
I took this class for credit towards my degree. Bryan has really hard exams, but he curves them. The class grade only has exams towards it and a final project. Its a really hard class and not a fun class either, very lecture heavy!
His lecture PowerPoints are no help to you while you're taking notes. He basically leaves it all up to learn the material. Grade from entire class comes from 7 quizzes and his lectures are so useless you have to read the chapters multiple times to understand everything for the quizzes. Overall way too hard of a class that can be taken as a Gen Ed
Doesn't know how to use technology so make sure you go to lecture. 10/10 pullover game. Blackboard lost cause for Gibs.
Entirely based on lectures that have exams every three chapters. Lectures are kinda boring but he tries to make them interesting. Can get away with not doing the readings, but they really help. Alright class with an alright professor tbh
The only things in the grade book are 5/7 of your quizzes (he drops your two lowest scores), your final (which is optional & if you decide to take it and it hurts your grade, he wont put it in), and extra credit. His quizzes are hard, the readings are heavy but they help on the quizzes. He offers a lot of extra credit, take advantage, it saved me.
Absolutely do not take this man's class. He relies on the online textbook and you to teach yourself. He didn't interact with the class at all for it being a Social Psych class. This class was horrible and the professor was ineffective.
The whole class is based off of 7 quizzes and honestly I had to teach myself most of the material. We had an online textbook that we read and you have to attend class to get the lecture he doesnt use blackboard. Overall, for PSY 100 he made this class more difficult then it needed to be
He was a good professor if you are more of a verbal learner. I believe that is why i struggled so hard with the course because I am more of a visual &hands-on learner. Quizzes were really hard. DO NOT study the day before being that you have 6 opened ended responses to answer but he will only put on opened ended on the quiz with multiple choice.
Gibson does not like stupid questions. If you have any questions about the class, you must check the syllabus first before emailing him or else be prepared to get a snotty and rude response from him in his replying email. If the answers to your questions can be found in the syllabus its best to not even ask him. DO NOT ask him for help, bc he wont.
VERY DIFFICULT! This class is solely based off test, no other assignments to help your grade. You take 7 test and your final course grade is based off of 5/7. If you do bad on the test (you probably will) you may take the final and try to improve you score (which wont even help) READ YOUR BOOK because you basically teach yourself. BAD PROFFESSOR!!!
Extra credit saved my grade. Only graded on tests, no cushion. Definitely go to class. Read the textbook
The class has a lot of information that must be reviewed in order to score well on the exams. The questions are composed from all of the different sources given. Asking clarifying questions is discouraging due to poor response from the professor. He will always refer you to another source instead of answering directly.
Bases the class solely off of quizzes, He is rarely helpful when it comes to asking questions, is not very understanding. 0/10 wouldnt recommend
I took this class as a first semester freshman and it was definitely my hardest class. Your grade is composed of 7 quizzes, and your worst 2 get knocked off at the end. He was never in class and the lectures didn't help you really learn the material. The information was interesting, but the way it was taught made it my least favorite class
worst professor. sorry gang, do not take this guy.I have heard years past, pre-covid he was chill, but now absolutely not. The only thing he grades for the course is your 7 quizzes. There's no homework, but for each quiz, if you don't start studying the second the first lecture is over, you're screwed. each chapter in the textbook was min 45 max150
Dr. Gibson is not the greatest professor. Make sure you read the whole syllabus before asking him a question, otherwise he will get upset. His powerpoint slides only have main points, so pay attention during lectures. He'll work with you to help in the event of unexpected circumstances, but that's really about it. Wouldn't really recommend.
I loved this class and this professor, the people complaining are probably new to college and don't understand you teach yourself in a lot of classes. He is super funny and loves his work. He gives great examples and curves all the exams. I got like 60-70 on each exam and got a B+ in the class. Quizlet is great, I didnt do any of the readings.
the only grades in the class were the quizzes and while he does have practice quizzes and materials out, I never felt like his lectures taught me anything. plus I signed up for the class thinking it was hyflex but its basically fully online, going in person is just watching his online video in person, same thing as on your own.
One thing I hate is that he blows up when a question is asked during class. Never wants to be "interrupted", even if he hasn't started teaching yet... Found lectures pretty useless, any success I had was because of practice quizzes.
This class is already difficult because its an online research study class. But he makes it worse with zero grading rubric, treats it as if it is a graduate level class. Never scored above a 7/10 on anything. Feedback is rude and makes you feel dumb. Changes things last minute. Little things are graded. He picks at everything. DO NOT TAKE.
Yes, it's true that Dr. Gibson can be a tough grader. It's easy to get discouraged about low scores on assignments. However, assignments are only worth 25% of your grade. He gives a lot of feedback on your rough drafts for the research paper, and if you make these revisions, then you will do just fine on the research paper.
Professor Gibson is such a terrible teacher!! you have to teach yourself the work and his lectures are very unorganized and boring. He does not stay on track with his power points, and he does not explain thoroughly. Your grades are relying on your exams, no homework or at least sample problems to make sure you fully understand the concept.
he was really bad and his lectures were too long and were not informational.
I recommend never having this professor. No grades were put in the whole semester so you never knew your grade until the last day. Did not help with questions. Never checked in with the class or gave updates about anything. Worst professor I have ever had.
He is terrible! Don't take this as a GE because the volume of info and work is insane. I had to pour so much effort in to get an A. Each quiz is 20% of your grade. Optional final. Quizzes are really hard and take hours and hours and hours of reading and studying. If you want to take this class talk to others and think really hard about it. Buy book
Most miserable, horrendous, soul sucking class i've ever taken. He talks like you should already know everything and when you ask questions he'll either tell you to look in the syllabus or make you feel stupid. He bases the final grade off of seven quizzes that are poorly worded and impossible to pass without 10+ hours of studying DO NOT RECOMMEND!
You'll have 7 quizzes, one every 2 weeks. Written questions are hard to remember, you cannot use notes. Lectures don't really cover much of the quiz. Definitely practice the practice quizzes since that's mainly what half the quiz questions are. STUDY or else you will fail. Also do the extra credit (ALL) or else you will fail.
Worst online class I've ever taken. Textbook is misogynistic and literally has jokes about sexual assault in it. There are very clear research biases that are presented as fact. Tests are meant to trick you. You won't do well unless you've memorized the chapters. There is 8% discussion board extra credit, though. Waste of time, drop while you can.
Terrible, lectures, heavy quizzes, and bad environment.
he gives alot of feedback on drafts to do better on final paper but he is very blunt and rude with feedback. He also is very vague on requirements for assignments and emails frequently with more instructions making it difficult to keep track of everything. He is the toughest grader i have ever had, wouldnt be so bad if he wasn't so condescending.
Tough on grading - gives a large amount of feedback. If you follow all his feedback, you will do well on the final paper. Regardless, I recommend you take it with someone else who is more accommodating.
His lectures are long and boring. He can be insensitive and I found myself leaving class in the middle of lectures due to his rude attitude. He sometimes does not seem like he knows what he is teaching. He has quizzes every two weeks that are extremely difficult.
Do not take this course. He is a terrible instructor he wants you to sit and read a book day in and out while memorizing it all while participating in the discussion post and doing the mastery training online work. He is so un helpful and wants you to refer back to readings. Told him i struggled 2 weeks in he responded how much time did you read
Difficult for a 100-level course. Dr. Gibson expects you read about 80 pages of textbook every 2 weeks. His lectures aren't helpful and don't cover much of the material on the exam, so you will need to read to understand the material. Doesn't give out any practice materials for quizzes and is very inflexible. Would recommend a different professor.
This is the worst professor I have ever experienced, doesn't cover full chapter in lectures and expects you to read unreasonable amounts for a psych 100 class. Can't use basic grammar and is unclear when communicating with, avoid this professor if at all possible.
Dr. Gibson is very boring and lecture-heavy. There are 7 quizzes and Sona hours. He offers extra credit and lets class out early sometimes. The quizzes are not in class but are recorded. He wears a mask so he can be hard to understand at times. The quizzes are more book-based than lecture.
DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM. His lectures are very boring and don't even cover much of the chapter. If you reach out to him with any questions at all, be ready for a "Look at the syllabus before asking these kinds of questions" or "Read the textbook and it will make sense" I would not take his class ever again.
Contrary to many of the recent reviews, Dr. Gibson was a good professor. You have to work for your grade, but he grades fairly. His lectures did get slightly boring, but they were informative and helpful for the exams.
Alright teacher, a little rude when you try to speak to him, do not recommend but if you have to take class be sure to participate in extra credit opportunities throughout semester as quizzes are very difficult. Be ready to study for quizzes as they are often over information that was not covered.
Even though he was not my favorite professor, his class was very easy. My biggest piece of advice to succeed in this course is to study quizlets that have already been made by previous students. Some of the quizlets have the exact quiz questions word for word which was so amazing for studying.
just dont.
Dr. Gibson's class is tough, but using study tools like Unstuck ai alongside the textbook can really help. Quizzes are hard, so practice past ones religiously.
The online course is mostly run by Mindtap. The program isn't great at giving correct answers. No feedback on any quizzes until class is over. Feels like a big scam. If you have questions, tends to send you on wild goose chases. A little belittling. If you like this topic, wait and take it with someone who actually likes teaching. He's phoning in.
This is my second time having him as a professor and I didn't plan on taking his course again however, I didn't have an option. Furthermore, JUST DON'T TAKE HIS COURSES. He is very rude, not understanding, tooooooooo much work even for an online class, honestly listen to whoever tells you to not take his class, please.
Had him my freshman year. Almost the whole class failed, he barely would come to classes and would make TA'S come to teach us. He never took responsibility! DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU HAVE ANOTHER OPTION!!!
If I had the option to choose a different professor I would have. I was just happy to get a C in the class and I'm not a C student. He was not kind in his feedback— super picky and unclear in his instructions.
He does not teach, he expects you to already know. He does not give explicit instructions or tells you what his expectations are, it is a guessing game every week. He always says to reach out with any questions but then when you do he talks down to you and doesn't answer your questions. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU CAN AVOID IT!
