Teaches clearly and effectively but doesn't allow much room for creativity within his writing assignments. No tests, no quizes, just 3 or 4 papers- so you'd better not stray too far from what he considers intersting. He's one of those teachers that simply doesn't believe in A's.

Mclawhorn is the man. Be sure to turn in your journals each week becasue they do add up. Also don't sweat getting a bad grade on a paper he will offer to regrade it for you. He's not hard just getting you ready for those b.s. classes. I Thought I never even pass enc1102 but I got an A. This guy takes his time and really breaks it down so you can learn. seems mean that first week of class but his a real nice guy wants you get to know him. take him you'll pass!!

Do all the work and have all your papers checked carefully and you'll do fine. He gives 3 to 4 essays and 5 time consuming journal assignments, no tests. He's very nit picky with the essays, but he's a good teacher and tells you what you need to know.

To get an A in his class all you need to do is do the journals and go to the writing center for help on the essays and you will get a good grade. Great teacher.

Great Teacher. Really entertaining, and his lectures are as clear as glass. Only problem with this class is probably the amount of work. It isn't much, but it requires you to participate inside and outside the class. One of the best professors so far. I never find myself bored in this class.

I loved his personality. Very sarcastic. His class isn't so easy. There are about 4 essays to write and you have to spend a lot of time outside of class on them. Make sure you do your journals even though he doesn't read them which makes it an easy A. He is so real and willing to help you. NEVER have to get up in front of the class or groups.

He is really critical and detailed when it comes to your papers but if you make mistakes he will try to help you correct them by showing you what you did wrong. I liked him and got a B in his class. Definitely want to be serious taking his class.

One of his policies for online students is that must turn in all assignments or get an F. No exeptions. I turned in all my assignment and looked at my grade at the end of the semester and had an F. Turns out he didnt recieve one of my assignment but he told me to resubmit it and he changed my grade to a B. He was very cool about it. Thanks Dude!

I took his online class and i have to admit that he is a wonderful and willing to work with you in any situation. He answer all emails in a timely manner and he provides good feed back. 5 papers and the final was an essay. no tests or going to the school for anythinh. I highly reccommend this teacher

Take if you know how to write and don't like being babied. A professor who wouldn't just give me a good grade because I knew how to spell, but would grade me on my actual writing so I can get better! Appreciates more elevated writing. Has standardds but wants you to to improve. Makes class interesting. Funny. Relevant. Knows what he's doing.

He is a bit intimidating at first, but he is actually a very good teacher. He explains all essay assignments very clearly and pretty much tells you how to write them. He also gave the us more than enough time to write our essays. Plus he makes lecturing less boring.

Take his class if you want to be enlightened. It is a must that you come to class everyday though. If you follow his guidelines which are in his syllabus, it is easy to pass this class with at least a C even if your writing skills are not so well.

Good teacher but kind of annoying when it comes to grading. It's easy to get a B or an A if you just pay attention but it's hard to get an A+. He's a little annoyed most of the time and I don't think he likes to talk to his students. The whole entire course is about writing papers but he never really talked to us about our individual papers.

If you come to class all the time and actually LISTEN to what he says you can pass this class. His guidelines are very set-in-stone and if you have any problems do not hesistate to ask him after class. He is super helpful. Seemed strict at first and doesnt like nonsense. This class is based mostly around the three papers you will write which are graded heavily on citations, punctuation and other mechanical things (things other than the writing itself). McLawhorn lectures one time before each essay and the following class days are drafting/workshops. Takes off 5 pts per mechanical error. ATTEND ALL CONFRENCES.

Best English Teacher I've EVER had, HANDS DOWN. Professor McLawhorn exemplifies a genuine concern for the success of his students. He hands out tons of resources on how to write the specific essay he assigns (another bonus is essays in lieu of tests) and for those who lose papers easily (me) he posts them online. But I suggest buying a flash drive.

Great class! Very basic writing skills taught, easier than my AP classes. Whenever drafting in class, take your paper to him and ask questions, he will tell you exactly what he wants! I got A's on all of my papers because I made sure I understood what he wanted to read. Don't be a minute late to class, because he will mark you absent. Really easy

I had him for not even two classes. Hes so rude and doesnt care about anything that may happen in your personal life. Thats fine bu What if something happened&i truly couldnt make it to class? I took him my first semester at TCC. He seems kinda scary at first, very strict, but is actually pretty chill (still strict though). Don't be late, don't have your phone out, don't miss class. He adheres VERY closely to TCC absence policies, so be careful what day(s) you miss. Good teacher tho. Is willing to go over stuff outside of class for you.

I never knew how to write a college essay until this class. He comes off as very stern at first but he's hilarious. He's a great professor, he tells you exactly everything he wants in the paper and will go over it in class with you to make sure you understand it. He is strict and clear on what he wants and what he will deduct points for. he assigns about three papers a semester, with plenty of time to complete each one comfortably. Very clear and helpful when in need of assistance. Comes off as tough or rude at first but only because he knows what he wants and how he wants it done. McLawhorn is an outstanding professor. I like English and I am fairly good at writing, but after taking his class my writing skills have tremendously improved. He is very helpful, always willing to talk to you. He takes attendance, but you will want to show up anyway. He gives a lot of writing time in class and answers any of your questions.

Although I've never actually met Mr. McLawhorn his online course was amazing! He grades quickly and is always sending reminders of what's due next. If you do all your work this class in an easy A. However, he grades a little tough on the research paper which is worth 200 points! Other than that I received and A on the other 3 papers.

He is an amazing teacher and I am taking I'm again for ENC1102. He gives extremely clear grading criteria and you can email him any question and he'll quickly respond. He gives easy classwork that boosts your grade. You use the textbook but he has it in the library so you don't have to buy it. Solid teacher and loved the atmosphere.

Amazing teacher. Bad first impression, but he turned out to be very nice and understanding. If you miss a couple days you can still pass. Your grade will rely on the 200 point essay. Final is just an easy essay. Overall I would recommend him as a professor.

I took Mr. McLawhorn for ENC1101 online. Lots of writing, as could be expected: 3 big essays, 2 Impromptu essays (90 mins each), and weekly Journal entries in which articles were analyzed. Tough grader. Doesn't give feedback unless you ask. Responds to emails quickly. Not easy, but I would recommend if you're willing to work hard! Good overall!

Professor McLawhorn is a spectacular teacher! He lays out what he expects of you very clearly each time an assignment is given, and leaves no room whatsoever for misunderstandings. However this also means if you don't do assignments the way he wants, your grade will suffer. He takes attendance VERY seriously, so do not be late to his class. Ever.

Mr. McLawhorn is a great English professor, he takes his job seriously and is a decent dude. He is a tough grader and attendance is absolutely mandatory. If you don't follow the instructions, he isn't going to go easy on you or feel sorry for you, but he does try to help his students and is available if you need extra help. I would reccomend him!

McLawhorn was one of my favorite professors. When it comes to writing essays he's a tough grader but he really breaks down the essay and makes it easy for you to write. He is a great teacher and is big when it comes to respecting him and his rules. skipping a couple classes here and there wont drop your grade just make sure you know when hw is due.

I took his class online. He was easy to get in touch with if needed. I would recommend getting the required textbook unless you just live in the library. I made the mistake of not getting it and I would do that over if I could. He makes you use it just about every week up until the end of the semester. The course and professor overall were fair.

He is very straight forward and to the point with what he expects out of you for every assignment and essay. He gives you more than enough time to complete the course work. I wouldn't advise buying the book and he'll tell you the same. Just make sure you take time to rent it out or make copies to complete your journals. I'd suggest him to anyone!

The only real downside of McLawhorn's class is that there's a lot of writing, but that's not a surprise and he grades pretty fairly. His lectures are pretty engaging and he is a very good speaker. McLawhorn is also a pretty charismatic guy, which is always a plus. Go to class, do the work, and you'll be just fine.

I took him online for ENC1101, he responds very quickly to emails. He is precise on his essay expectations, and offers feedback upon request. He notices when his students show determination. I was skeptical of taking an online english class, but every Monday and Friday he sends reminder emails, so there is no miscommunication on when/what is due.

This was my 4th (yes, fourth attempt class) time taking 1102 and I am grateful that I chose Mr. Mclawhorn. He is a old school teacher however he explains very well what he expects from his students. 4 essays, 5 journals, final exam (based on notes taken in class) , and final essay exam. Not a hard grader but he is strict to a certain extent.

Dr. McLawhorn is very thorough in his expectations for grading. He can come off somewhat rude to some people, but if you respect him, he will respect you. Don't be afraid to use his conference days for papers, he will point out certain flaws and help you correct them so you can earn a better grade.

I took his class online and it was a breeze! Would definitely take it again. Most of his assignments have you reading a couple of pages and discussing them. Theyre are two position essays, an impromptu essay, and the final essay. Finished most assignments in no time.

His class is easy. He doesnt grade tough. Lots of assignments though. He responds to emails quick and will help you. Going to class really helps you to understand what is expected. He comes off as tough but respect him and do the work and youll be fine. Id recommend.

The professor is not a tough grader unless it is a bigger assignment. Honestly very easy class and response to emails fast. I took online and would recommend to everyone.

I took McLawhorn for ENC 1102 & he was actually very funny , helpful and informative. He does have a clear grading scale of exactly what he wants on the essays and its kinda hard to fail. He does offer writing conferences before essays which are so helpful. Its not too much work.. its definitely manageable. Overall recommend

This was the first time I have ever received a B in an English class, he gives no extra credit and if you don't show up to class you're basically screwed as he lectures and barley repeats himself. He responds very fast with good feedback, I enjoyed his class but I don't recommend it if you don't like showing up to class or putting in the effort.

2 papers, 5 journals, and a few 1-page writing assignments. His rubrics aren't very clear because he expects his students to take careful notes in class, so if you don't show you'll miss important instructions. In terms of Zoom, I can tell he's a fun guy but he's struggling to be engaging with students. He's super kind and he's willing to help.

To put it simply, his criteria and assignment instructions are clear and fair, but he is somewhat of a tough grader; So you'd better be on your p's and q's with this guy.

McLawhorn is great if you like to-the-point professors who have clear expectations. He is responsive and seems to carefully provide feedback when it is requested. I asked him why I got a 97/100 on something, being a perfectionist, and he replied very thoughtfully. Would recommend, especially as an online course! Everything is due on Fridays.

i always hated english but professor mclawhorn definitely made it a better experience for me.
