Best philosophy class I ever took
Easiest course I EVER took. I like his insistence on easy term tests and no final exam (just a lousy paper). Great to pad that GPA!
If you have to take crit thinking, take it with Peeler. 4 term tests and a paper, that's it! He also makes the material easy to understand. Get him to spell orange. That is, if you can read anything he writes.

Good prof, and very down to earth.
Good guy, but be prepared to be confused in class. Brian, if you can't figure out how to do the textbook exercises, how do you expect us to? Please dump this textbook and get one with solutions. The ambiguity is overwhelming.
He must have read those other ratings and made some adjustments, cause our assignment was impossible. Most people failed. Ok, Prof Peeler, you made your point, now give us a break!!
Don't get me started. Not only can this guy not teach but he also does not know how to FAIRLY test and measure the student's knowlege. The best advice that I can give anyone is to not waste time attending his classes. This course is a money scam...beware.
Way to take an easy course and make it impossible. Where do they find these guys?
Nice enuff guy. Not confident enuff with material to be able to explain. Sticks to script and isn't convincing about his own knowledge. Exam is brutal and assignments are too complex for a 100 level course.
I never see a teacher that sux like him. I wish he know what stress we have in REAL subjects like accounting and finance. I don't know why we have to take this course cause its useless, but at least my friends say its easy, but not with this guy.
Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad!! Do yourself a favour and find a different teacher.
Jobs open for philosophy professors. Please apply soon!
I must agree that this class really blows. Maybe he's under pressure from the dept to drop averages, since he really seems cool one on one. Bryan if you read this, you have to admit that a C average is pathetic.
All we need is more time to write that test. It's not that it was a hard test it was just way tooo long to complete in the given amount of time. The first assignment was a joke, the second one was a bit harder but not a big deal.
Give the guy a break. He's probably only doing what he's told. After all, its probably the phylosophy department's only cash cow. Remember, we all need our job. Probably too smart to be teaching this course. One to one he's great. Probably a great guy outside the campus.
What a bunch of dolts in this class. He was nothing but helpful to me and the people I know. I did the work and I did well
Could be a usefull course if Peeler wasnt teaching it. Has no idea how to test knowledge of the subject. Worst prof i have ever had.
very enjoyable class
peeler is a great guy. always have fun in the class. but the way he teaches may need to alter some, it is better idea to give us some more small assignments and quizs that worth less. overall, your style is tooo hard for a intro course and U1 students.
PAY ATTN in class to fully understand concepts; go to class and he explains assigned readings better than reading text itself.helpful guy, easy to approach, assignments and test are a LITTLE tuff, but get help before and you're off. Recommended.
the course would not have been so bad if prof peeler did not appeal to **** understandings of women all year long. the examples that he uses paint women in subordinate positions to men constantly. all and all his classroom was an ailenating experience, i used the text, it was just as good
Maybe if he read his course notes before class, and maybe if he prepared a teaching plan, and maybe if he had any idea what he was talking about, I would consider giving Peeler a better mark. Go back to teaching school.
Quite enjoyable. Makes the topic fun and interesting

good prof, attend class and you'll have no problem
very nice
He is really easy going and nice. Sometimes he doesnt seem really prepared, but he is open to discussion. I find that i could go to class once a week and do just fine. I find it easy. Sometimes he himself is a bit confusing though
good prof, makes class more interesting
Made topic easy to understand. Highly recommended
I thought we was very fair and easy to talk to when I had questions. Make sure you study for tests as they are fairly difficult, If taking crit thinking try to get the interactive lessons on cd, VERY HELPFUL
Mr.Peeler was easygoing and reasonable, he was a fair marker and developed a relaxed and stimulating environment with the class, making it fun to go, but not necessary if something came up at the last minute. The text we used was horrible, but he said he wouldn't make that mistake again. Overall, it was a positive experience, and very low stress.
Easy to understand, get his point across well. Tried to make content interesting as best as possible. Tests were reasonable, and an easy marker.
Great guy, make sure you ask him questions because he's very helpful and will answer all of them!
Mr.Peeler is a great guy to talk to, and is always willing to boost your mark on any assignments you do, as long as you go see him. Despite the fact that he is a great prof, the course CRITICAL THINKING IS TERRIBLE!!! I'm serious, DO NOT take this course!!! If you are required to, TAKE IT THROUGH CORRESPONDENCE I gaurentee you will do WAY better.
Always easy to talk to
avoid this instructor if possible, impossible to obtain an excellent mark with his ridiculous grading scheme.
What are you talking about? Peeler was super easy, i had him last year when we had to use that ridiculous text book that honestly felt like reading a law document. Regular textbooks should not require that much deciphering, and I'm good in english. But the point is, Peeler is helpful, makes easy tests, just kinda long and assignments are easy.
If you get him... run... hes a super nice guy but is not a very good prof... cant stimulate discussion or teach anything generally speaking... awfuly confusing class
Enjoyed the class very much

I had him for critical thinking, guaranteed A. He has easy tests and is willing to help you outside of class. If you take critical thinking, take it with him.
Nothing against him, cool guy. At times it was a bit evident that he was teaching from a political science standpoint, and as a result the class discussions were restricted to what happens in war, not what should happen (which is kind of a problem in applied ethics). It was a fun class though.
Good prof. Classes generally revolve around discussions based on the text/readings. You'll do well as long as you do the readings.
Awesome guy, realizes that most people are not there because they want to. If you fail his class it's cause you're an idiot
This prof came unprepared to class and had constant issues with the projector and then would end up reading the slides to the class. One of the worst profs I have had so far.
The only prof who I actually liked. He would always be prepared, always update the site after each class, notes were clear, textbook very useful...very nice prof who would answer all my questions. Also very friendly and make me like the class a lot!! highly recommend to take his class.
Took this class distance ed, so I have limited knowledge of his ability. Got almost exactly the same mark on all three of my essays even though I knew two sucked and the other was really good. If you study just the notes you should be able to do decently well. Textbooks supplement the notes but you get the basics from the well-organized notes.
horrible marker, expects you to read his mind in terms of what examples you use in essays. Would not recommend this professor
3 essays worth 20% each. Final (long answer/essay) worth 40%. Highly recommend talking to prof before each essay. He will guide you. But even then he grades the papers harshly. This course is a lot of work (research) and I only recommend taking it if you are passionate about politics. You can learn a lot. Don't take if you need an A or higher.
I honestly have 0 idea what he is talking about ever. He doesn't use slides and literally makes no sense, because he will introduce a topic but then never speak about it for the rest of the class so taking notes is hard. His tests/exams are not too tough. He seems like a really nice guy, just so all over the place.
Nice guy, but not a great prof. His lectures were disorganized and he told us that to get an A+ on a paper, you must present something that hasn't been presented before in politics... You can tell he is very intelligent, and enjoys the material, however the manner in which it was presented was hard to follow. He does care about his students.
Professor Bryan Peeler is a brilliant man, and an excellent lecturer. Class was a pleasure to attend. This man genuinely cares about his class and if his pupils learn. Extremely accessible after class, willing to boost your mark if you sit down and speak with him. A pleasure to learn from, would attend again if given opportunity
Gives great lectures that keep your interest for the entire class. Very helpful and will always make time for you to discuss the material or any questions about assignments. Motivational.
His lectures are all over the place, and super disorganized. Gives us next to zero criteria on what he wants us to do for an assignment, as well as what the tests will cover. I would reccomend trying to find another professor if possible.
Hilarious prof that loves to entertain engaging discussions on lecture material and current events. Powerpoints do not give a complete set of notes so be sure to pay attention and write down the things he says. Tests are quite easy and do not require extensive studying if you are attentive in lecture. One of my favourite classes with a great prof.
Dr Peeler was an outstanding prof. If you wrote down all that he was saying in the lectures, the tests were very easy. He uses humour in his presentations which kept me very engaged. This class was one of my favourites!
This is the 2nd time I've had this prof and he is by far one of the best I've ever had. He's very accessible & gives very good feedback. I've learned a lot from him aside from what is covered by the course material, he's taught me how to write a good research paper and is never condescending w/ feedback. I have a lot more confidence in my writing
I only took this class because it was required, and it was as dry as I expected. I've had this prof before and always get virtually the same grade no matter how much effort I put into the assignments. On the + side, he's very accessible, accommodating, and willing to discuss assignments with you. Good guy, mediocre (distance) prof, boring course.
I didn't enjoy this prof one bit. I had him for the first half of intro to politics. His lectures were very scattered and unclear, and he didn't do a good job of communicating what should be looked at for the test. START THE ESSAY EARLY. He's a very very nice and funny prof though.
Excellent prof, shows a genuine interest in students, he is very accessible outside of class, provides clear guidelines for assignments & gives good feedback which is very helpful for learning how to write papers in general. Tests are fair. Lecture slides could include more info about topics. One of the best profs I've had so far in university.
He is my man! I love everything about him!!! The best teacher in the world!!!
Professor Peeler is a very knowledgeable professor, however the information he gives in class that will appear on tests is solely from his lectures. If you miss class his power point slides will be no help to you. Utilize the easy marks from the tutorials and don't stress over the mid-term for it is only 10%!
Good prof, VERY accessible and often gave hints to what would be on the final. DON'T skip class if you want a good grade since the stuff he posts online are really vague and he goes over a lot of information in class.
Super nice prof, truly cares about students. Lectures are somewhat hard to follow at the time since he incorporates stories into it but looking over notes after, you'll realize the stories helped you actually understand and know the topic. He is a very hard grader though especially on written things (essay and essay question in final.)
very interesting professor and made international politics fun and interesting. loves memes, and likes to join in student jokes even if he's the one being laughed at. very easy course if you're fascinated by international relations and will pursue something related in the future. very easy finals as well.
There was no textbook for the class so he literally just stood at the front and read extremely fast. This would be ok except that he never posted the notes online! He also assumed everyone already knew everything about politics even though it was an intro course! Exam was also unfair because it required WAY more background knowledge than he taught
A very knowledgeable, hilarious, and accessible prof. I was able to acquire a good understanding of concepts and theories I'd never studied before, and I attribute it to the way in which Professor Peeler conducted the lectures, as well as the questions I was able to ask in and out of class.
His lectures are good but you have to go to class to pass. The textbook is useless and does not explain anything in the course, and the notes he uploads online are barebones and don't go into detail. However, he has a strong understanding of the material, the final exam is fair and he is funny.
He is hands down the best prof i have ever had. I had him for international relations and he was great in his lectures. Anything that he felt was important to know he would let you know. His tests and exams were easy however you had to show up to class to really be successful. I would definitely recommend him!
Man's literally makes you read the book, only to come back in class to regurgitate what you already read. Also he does seem to just read from the book during the class, so it tells me he doesn't actually have notes prepared or ready for the class. I pity anyone who takes this course.
Very friendly and helpful about assignments. Doesn't post much online so you need to take notes in class but he keeps the lectures interesting and has a good sense of humour.
Although I got a good mark in his class, I really disliked the way it was taught. Peeler's lectures are scattered at best, and all over the place. His exams were brutal, and we had little to no head up on what was expected on exams or assignments. Also, he says to get an A, you have to present something new in the field. Stay away!
you really need the textbook, his online notes are not detailed . skip class and fail
I thought Bryan was a fair and nice professor. Good sense of humour. If you like to discuss and be a bit more interactive then this is the prof and class for you!
Do not take his Intro to Poli Sci class if you actually have no background at all. It was so hard for me to learn all the material to the level he wanted, with also taking other classes. For feedback on an essay, he said I should get a writing tutor. Funny enough, in every other class I have never received a grade less than an A on a paper.
Honestly a fantastic prof and seems like an overall great guy. His lectures are always engaging, but his slides don't say much. You have to actually listen to him. Get the textbook too. I found it was super great when it came to writing papers, which makes up most of your grade, so prep for that. In tutorials, participate! Really helps your grade
Prof Peeler is hands down one of the most caring profs I have had at university. Your success in his class greatly depends on showing up and paying attention as well as taking very detailed notes. Participation and seeing him in his office hours will also really help you get the grades you aim for. However, do not take this course for a W req.
His slides are very vague which prompt you to go to class where he elaborates in great detail and will elaborate further if the class is engaged. This pattern is shared across the various guests so be prepared to write. He gives a break down of what he is looking for (so do it) if asked in regards to the papers. Very approachable and amical prof .
Dr. Peeler is so smart about the content he lectures on. Though the lectures are quite dry and a bit boring. The lab for POLS 1502 was great and I learned more there than in lectures.
Honestly he is an amazing prof and super helpful if you email him. 2502 was a distance course and the content was pretty heavy so I had to put in a lot of time but he was always prepared to answer questions and help. Would highly recommend taking a class of his. Only downside was he likes his papers cited in Chicago, but he had examples to follow.
Peeler is an amazing professor, hes very caring, available, and willing to help. Very accommodating. I loved the time spent in this course. The course is graded by few things, but he is not a super hard grader. It is not hard to get an A in this course, imo. Make sure you keep up on the readings as that is what the tests were based on.
good professor, just needs a bit of improving on assignment guides.
I really enjoyed having Dr Peeler! I wish there had been a bit more content from him rather than just a textbook, but he did give very helpful feedback on assignments. I found I really did improve throughout the course using that feedback, and enjoy the subject more because of this class. I also appreciated the weekly emails about units/due dates.
when I took POLS1506 with Peeler I got an A+ and I was like sick he's an easy marker, super concise, tells you what he wants, etc. But for this 3000 level class, his standard for an A/A+ was that it should literally contribute something new to the field, so I'm expecting this to bring down my GPA. He answers emails super fast though, very nice guy
One of the best professors! Very caring and understanding and goes above and beyond to support students. His courses are usually very interesting and challenging so I always end up learning a lot. You will likely succeed in his courses as long as you read the assigned readings, attend the lectures, and put in the work.
I wrote a bad review once on him but after taking another class with him, it was ok and I like it! took B+ in both classes!
He is a good Professor . Has a bit of dry jokes but really does his best to keep the lectures entertaining .
Professor Peeler is a knowledgeable and passionate educator who makes learning enjoyable with his great sense of humor. His tech skills could use some improvement and the reading materials are a bit dated, but these are minor issues. Overall, his engaging style and expertise in the subject enrich and enrich his class. I would retake his class.
One thing to note for test prep is he does not rely on strict memorization, attempting to have you apply the concepts in his questions (which is more correct). Would highly recommend, Peeler was accommodating with the grade curve and open to discussion about course work/material outside class (though a stickler on test answers), dudes a beauty.
Professor Peeler's class is well-structured with a focus on applying concepts rather than pure memorization. The feedback and weekly updates are super helpful. unstuckstudy was a great study tool alongside the textbook.
I applaud Bryan for really emphasizing that memorization will not get you by in his classes, it is refreshing seeing this in an Arts course, coming from a heavy Science background taking this as an elective. However, his lectures are painful to get through. Lots of back and forth and no real structure, and lots of flat jokes that get no response.
Peeler does not get the credit he deserves. He is such a chill yet knowledgeable professor. His lectures are easy to follow along because he articulates his thoughts really well. He also breaks down complicated notions very well. He has a dry humor. He cares about his students and puts effort into teaching. His tests examine knowledge not memory
Oh, the Peels... Good prof, better than most in department. Can drone on in lectures but what he says helps improve your knowledge of topics greatly. Tests are pretty difficult and based on knowing concepts, not memorization like too many profs push for. Funny dude and doesnt share his beliefs which is awesome. Would take more classes with him.
