Very Good Teacher. Taught more then just how to write a paper

Excellent teacher. Grading is very subjective, however, so math/science majors used to getting an A for a "correct" answer have something coming. Won the Chief Ogontz award in 2003 for being helpful to students.

One teacher who cares about the students and making that connection. Funny, articulate, well versed, and most improtantly open minded. You can go far and explore many different concepts in what any other teacher would make a limited experience. Wonderful.

Polk rocks!

I love this teacher. He is the best. I had him for Eng 15, Eng 202C and World Religion. He allows students to redo papers until they've done their absolute best. He's a very open-minded and articulate dude. Yo rock Polk!!!!!

Having Polk be one of the first people to welcome you into college really helps out in the long run. His FYS had a very relaxed feel. Receiving an A should not be too difficult as long as you participate, watch the movies and write the letters...

AWESOME teacher. One of the best I have EVER had. He is funny as Hell! He makes learning fun again, and this is one student who is rapidly getting sick of school. Nicest guy you could ever want to meet. Tests are easy. No dates or names to memorize.

I was lucky enough to end up in Polk's class my very first semester, and I tried 3 1/2 more years to get back in one, and had him my last semester. This guy is worth taking for any class. Excellent teacher. Just great.

Mr. Polk was an awesome teacher! He was always willing to help, and would always have his door open and willing to talk to you about anything. If you had a problem with anything in life, just go to Mr. Polk. He's willing to listen and help!

I've never met a teacher who cared more about his students than Polk does. The class was a lot of fun!

One of the most amusing teachers you'll ever have. His class was a 45 minute stand-up comedy routine that just happened to cover religion. Lots of fun, great guy.

I think that Polk is a great professor, and his letters are the best part for some students that are to shy too shy to say something in class. He is also a professor that shows concern in how students feels and not too many instuctors are like that.

In my first semester of college I had Prof. Polk and he is GOD! I'm convinced that this guy is the best professor on the Abington Campus. He keeps you interested with class discussions and is never dry and is an awesome individual. He isn't too shabby at advising and counceling either!

By far the best teacher that I have ever had... I would consider him more like a friend. He is more than willing to help you with any problems you have, inside or outside of his class. I thank God for teachers like him because he has made my college career much more bearable. It is teachers like him that show you it truly is a profession.

Best professor I've ever had. Drops the 2 lowest quizzes and letters. Really nice guy and really helpful, makes the class very interesting. Open ended research paper will be hard but if you talk to him about it he will really help you out.

He is the BEST professor that Penn State Abington can offer. I liked his method of teaching, so I took almost all of his courses. (ENGL 15, RLST 001, and RLST 101). As long as you handed in essay on time you are good to go!!! :)

Very good teacher....i can tell he really loves his job. He makes class fun and he is a really really easy grader. He keeps in mind that because it is a religious studies class people have their own views and ideas and doesn't take off points.A++++++ teacher.

The BEST professor at Penn State Abington. I took a class that I didn't need just because I heard he was a great teacher. His class is the only one on my transcript that doesn't count for anything, and it was well worth it!

This was Mordern Christianity. Great course. Its kind of scary to know what this man knows about religion. He is an ordained Lutheran Minister however does not practice. He compares himself to the Buddists. He knows alot and makes his classes fun. You will watch some great movies!

Wonderful! He's the nicest man in the world and he is sooo clear about everything. Weekly quizzes, but only 1 midterm and final.

The most amazing professor, EVER. His class can be really difficult- but he wants you to learn from it. He makes classes amazingly fun and you will find yourself never wanting to skip a class for fear of missing some hilarious joke, or something really funny. He is also Chaplain and really cares about student welfare. (: Overall, he is GREAT!

Wonderful professor. This class is not easy, but he is great! I found myself talking to friends about his lectures and the class discussions. LOVE the letters part of class...you write letters back & forth to eachother throughout the semester. Makes class that much more personal. Worth taking this class, even as an elective.

Him and Santoro are the best teachers at PSU-Abington. He is one of few teachers that actually made me laugh on a daily basis. He will open your eyes to so much about the course as well as your daily life and beliefs. Great class, Greater guy.

He is a really nice guy and is pretty funny. He really knows what he is talking about and he is a really respectable guy. If you have any questions he is more than willing to answer them. His class for me was a little intimidating, since I'm a freshman, but he is more than willing to help you out.

Great guy, loves what he's teaching. Only thing I wasn't a fan of was the quiz questions. They test you on whether or not you are able to memorize random facts from the readings. Classes are interesting and he cares about each one of his students.

I got an A in this class, and honestly all you have to do is make sure you do the readings for the quizzes. Quizzes are so easy! and only the best 5 count Midterm and final are so easy too! Ok You want to get an A in this class. This is what you have to do. Go to class every SINGLE day and make sure he KNOWS YOU AND REMEMBERS YOU!. Only your best five quizzes count and they are so EASY!! Do the readings the night before for the quizzes. Midterm and Final so easy, Record the class for this!. TERM PAPER IS SO IMPORTANT! Do your best Job

He is an interesting fellow. He is someone you would want to know. His class was fairly easy and I was never bored. Theres was always an interesting topic and the more you discuss and get involved with, the better.

If anyone says that Polk is a difficult professor, then i don't understand how you were even let into college. His teaching style is a bit all over, but he is an easier professor and a nice guy. I BARELY even tried in that class and i got an A. He expects you to know how to properly write a paper so if you don't go back to eng015.

Polk is one of my favorite teachers. His class is easy to pass, assignments are easy, only takes the best 5 out of 10 quizzes so grading is very fair. If you fail one, you won't have to worry as long as you pass the next one. He makes the class very enjoyable, considering my class is at 8 AM. He's funny and will help you if you need it.

He's totally one of my favorite! READ! The quizzes are remotely easy and help your grade. Had 3 papers that weren't hard and the rest of my grade consisted of the top 5 quiz grades. Respect him and come to class, don't just skip. He tends to get off subject which makes it pretty boring but he's an overall great guy.

I took his class which he taught conjointly with another professor, while I didn't enjoy the other prof, Polk was great! Totally respects each student and values your opinions. Throws some comedic relief into the class which is great for a historyreligion class. No tests or final, just a couple papers. Do the readings for quizzes. I'm taking again

Honestly, most favorite teacherprofessor I've ever had. So happy to have taken his RLST 06 class! Not only was it really interesting, but he made it even more fun. I loved going to class. Really nice teacher. You'll need all the books and make sure you actually read them. He follows syllabus to the point.

The one thing that suck is that he would give you a whole chapter to read, but only give you five questions that would come out of no where. He did give us quizzes and just give us an A on it just because, so that made up for the other ones. He really easy though and a great teacher. You will learn many new thing.

Mysticism was a really fun class. Polk was an excellent professor and taught mysticism in a fun way. Easy exam if you attend class often.

Professor Polk makes waking up at 8 am worth it. He's hilarious and sincere. I thoroughly enjoyed his class this semester. We watched films and critiqued them based on religious themes. He is outgoing, witty and kind. I would take him again!

We basically just watched movies all the time and took quizzes on them, plus had one little group project. A very nice and easy teacher.

This is my second time taking this prof. first time for rlst, this time for engl015, if I could take him for any other class, I SO WOULD. Easily my most favorite professor/teacher that I have ever had in my 19 years of life. Just go to class, and do the work and you'll have an easy A. Recommend to everyone.

I really enjoyed Polks class. For once I enjoyed an english class and enjoyed showing up, even for an 8am. I felt that I became a better essay writer. DEFINITELY TAKE HIM. You won't regret it. Textbook is a packet of papers that he made that is sold for like $10-20 dollars

At first, seeing an 8:00am class on my schedule was disappointing, but not long into the first month and it was the class I was most motivated to attend. Funny, cool dude, is really passionate about literature and makes it interesting. Goes off topic a bit, but just makes the class fly by. Also gives great comments on papers. Great freshman year!

Great teacher! Had quizzes every week on the film or on the chapter, only had two essays. Really easy class.

Great guy/funny. Willing to help if you need it. There is a lot of reading every week. He also isn't clear on directions for papers, we got the assignment for our last paper two weeks late- so it was due finals week. Pop quizzes so make sure you read. He also tends to teach things he has already gone over numerous times. Very nice but too much work

Polk is an awesome professor, one of my favorite teachers of all time. His lectures can get pointless but he is super intelligent and awesome to conversate with. He has knowledge about so many things. He is an english professor too so the paper he assigns he grades tough!! Go to the learning center to get your paper proofread before handing it in.

Quizzes are based on the chapters in the book. He gives 9 quizzes and drops the lowest 4. Warning: He takes offense when students don't participate or do the assigned work.

Professor Polk was an awesome teacher. Being a science major, english has never been my strong subject, but his class changed my opinion on the subject. We read three pieces (yes you actually will have to read) and quizzes you on each. No tests and no final, but quite a few papers. You get a journal entry once a week, along with a writing prompt

He is so funny! His lectures can be a tad boring however he is so flexible and easy to work with! I took him for two different classes and loved them both! He does have pop quizzes however, if you do the work you'll be fine! He is extremely caring and I loved getting to know him! DEFINITELY TAKE HIM!!

Polk is a fantastic teacher. I was a CAMS 45 student, and I enjoyed going to class; though, some content in the course is drier than other subjects, but Polk makes up for this by being enthusiastic throughout. Polk expresses genuine care and concern for his students, and he is the type of prof. that you enjoy learning from. I Highly recommend Polk.

Had him for ENG015 and Religion studies and loved both! Usually I found spark notes for the english reading assignments and could pass easy, but even if you fail the quizzes, as long as your papers are good you'll pass same for **religious studies (**WATCH THE MOVIES!!!) he'll repeat a lot of his jokes, they're funny just laugh anyway lol

Best professor I've ever had. His lectures are very interesting and love going to his class. If you can't make it to class he's totally cool about it as long as you let him know he understands things come up. Doesn't allow makeup quizzes but there are so many in the semester missing a couple won't hurt you. You'll always get a great laugh!

Best professor Ive ever had, little to no effort you need to put in this class. Small things you have to read from a book, 12 quizzes in the semester but he counts the best 6! He allows like 6 absences (but if you participate hes cool if you miss here and there). Lectures are very engaging and actually makes me learn! Awesome guy

Great GPA booster and great professor!

This class is an easy A. All you have to do is read what he tells you to read and you get an A on any pop quizzes most of the time he tells you the class before a pop quiz that there will be one. The midterm and final were easy as could be. Not a hard class all you need to do is show up and do the readings and you will get an A with ease.

Amazing Prof! Really hilarious and keeps the class entertaining through personal stories. Lots of reading material provided by prof and expect quiz with extra credit for every reading material. There is a personal project of 1500/- words on personal experience and two exams (midsem and final).

Professor Polk is such a great professor and he is so easy going. You do have to do some reading, but the quizzes are easy. He is also a pretty easy grader, and overall a funny teacher. I would highly recommend him.

If you want to know your grade, hes willing to tell you and help you. His personal stories make it easier to understand what we are discussing in class. For being a slacker, hes an easy A if you read.

Easy going, doesn't post grades on canvas but more than happy to tell you how you're doing. Quizzes are 6 question and yes they're heavy readings that go with it but in the long run it helps you understand the content. Lots of personal stories but it helps comprehend the topics when they get messy to understand. Best prof I've ever had!

Best prof on campus. Caring, helpful. Don't use your phone and engage in class and you'll be fine. Read too, it's a good bit but it helps you know what's happening in the lecture. If you're having a hard time he's understanding and will help you! Uses personal stories to help connect the topics together, a lot of them are quite interesting to hear!

A ton of reading. If reading isn't your thing, don't take him.

This man is a gem. His lectures are super interesting, and he always adds personal stories which are also great for helping remember the information. He gives a lot of quizzes, but tells you the class before, just make sure you read and they are a piece of cake. Midterm/final was blue-book, but if you argue your point he will give you credit.

Professor Polk is very knowledgeable in the subject, he really makes you feel connected within the class. In this particular course we submitted multiple questions weekly based on his postings/readings. There was a midterm and final. I learned alot from Professor Polk and enjoyed the course.

Dr. Polk has lengthy lectures that sometimes feel like he babbles. However, he's the only old school professor on this campus that is understanding. Your hw every week is submitting 3 questions from the reading and lectures and once you hit a certain amount of points, he will let you know and you no longer have to take an exam or show up to class

I loved this class and the professor. we had homework assignments once a week and they were really simple. There was no in class work and the lectures were always really interesting. Attendance was not mandatory but a lot of the time the homework was based on what he discussed in class so its strongly recommended to go.

Weekly homework was to come up with 3 substantive questions based on readings that week. If you have really good questions you get extra credit worth 40% that assignment's grade for EACH question so you can earn even more, and he picks 20 or so questions a week.
