Rasmussen is an excellent teacher. He keeps his political view point a secret until the end of class so his views are not forced upon you. His power points are concise and are a tremendous help on the exams. His tests are straight forward and if you took notes and use his study guide you will do well. I would highly recommend him for GOVT 2301.
Prof Rasmussen is not for everyone. I enjoyed his class and learned a lot--am even taking him in the Fall for 2302, but his tests are 4 short answers and 2 essays so if you don't like writing, don't take his class. He gives a review and it prepares you immensly for the test..but DO THE REVIEW! 10% of grade is attendance so make sure you show up!
Very fair. I barely used the text book. His powerpoints were enough. He tests on concepts not definitions so you have to at least understand what's going on. Good class. I learned something.
If you come to every class and take notes and study his reviews you will do fine. His test is straight from the review it consist of all short answer and essay so you have to know your stuff. When you take his test write everything that comes to your mind. He is boring I fall the sleep all the time because he talks to much but his an ok teacher.
I really liked Rasmussen and the class. I learned so much!! Do Not buy the book. The tests are over lecture. Write/Type down EVERYTHING that is said in lecture!! I mean everything. It will all be on the test. Tests are only 6 questions, but be ready to write everything you know on each question's topic. Fun class.
Worst professor ever! left class due to emergency, wouldnt send me notes through email. not helpful at all.
Had him for 2301/2302. Never used book. I recommend him. Very laid back and happy. Lots of extra credit. Recommend writing all he says down in lectures. Test are over lectures only. If you attend his class, write notes, very easy A.
Attend Class, Take Notes, No Problem. Very Funny and always happy!
Great teacher, very helpful and explains things very well. MAKE SURE YOU PAY ATTENTION and you'll do great! Took him for the express class during summer I and it flew by.
Awesome teacher! I was never bored even though I have no interest in Gvt AT ALL. He loves to hear class opinions. Beware: his tests are ALL ESSAY, so if you are not a strong writer, you may want to take someone else. He does this to help the student get xtra pts though. He has power pts, but you cannot print them ahead of time. GREAT TEACHER!!
great professor. just show up to class and pay attention and this class will be a brease
good guy but horrible teacher. practically fell asleep in his boring classes.didnt learn anythin!tests are all essay n his notes dont match wat he says in class.definently wouldnt take him again
He is a GREAT GUY. BUT. Here it comes. His tests are hard. He doesn't care for people that miss class, or are late, and that's ok. But, the good people suffer from this. Here's how. He makes his study sheet for the test extremely vague. This is so the slackers can't study. The notes do support the test, but only 1/5 of it. GOOD LUCK.
really nice guy and entertaining. But grade only concludes of 3 tests and a paper. Tests are hard. made a D
he is very good and hes hott too...you just have to listen during the lecture..
He is a very laid back teacher, but you must attend class or points will be taken off your grade. His lectures are very boring and hard to understand. He is all about wearing VERY different shirts that are distracting!! The test reviews are 10% helpful and the test is 2 Essays and 4 short answers!! Take notes in class and GOOD LUCK!!
Very nice guy, and pretty funny too. But the downside is, he is not the greatest professor.. His reviews are so unclear, making the exams 10 times harder than they actually should be. The worst part of it all is that he usually only uses one method of teaching, LECTURE. No book is required, so thats a plus.
He is a good teacher and he made things interesting. He has a sense of humore, too.I didn't like Government at all until I got in his class. His test can be a little difficult so I'd suggest taking great notes.
He is a good, funny and nice professor but make sure you pay attention in class and take notes since the tests come straight from the notes. He's tests are all short answer/essay type tests. The book isn't mandatory I only used it once over the whole time that I had him for both classes. good luck!!
Not Bad, but not Great. His lectures can be a bit challenging to follow in the beginning, but overall not bad. His tests are managable if you study. Does grade pretty tough for essays, but overall his grading is fair. If you show up to class and work fairly hard, making a good grade is a piece of cake. Overall he is a decent professor.
Be prepared to lower your GPA. Tests are unfairly difficult.
Very difficult class and the notes does not really help with what you truly have to study. I would never advise this class for those who are not interest in Government or politics
He rambles on so it's difficult to keep an interest. His power points are not online and it's just an outline of what he'll cover, he gives a lot of detail that's not on it. Tests are difficult: 3 test, all Essays, no multiple choice.Get the book if you plan on missing class. However, he's very helpful when you don't understand something!
He was an overall fun and fair professor. His essay tests and exam are primarily based on his lectures/notes. He gives you opportunities for extra credit which helped me tremendously. You have to attend class and you better take good notes. If you are a slacker then this class is not for you. You will learn in this class and have fun.
He's good but liberal leaning. Lots of discussion about pot. Don't rely on his powerpoint notes to pass the class. Its just an outline, you need to listen to what he says & take notes. He's very helpful if you need more info. Tests are difficult; all essay & short answers. A lot of writing, you need to know the subject. Do the reading, it helps.
Just go to class, take notes from his powerpoints, and understand the concepts that he rambles on and on about. When he talks a lot about one subject, that generally means it'll be on the test. The tests are all essay and short answer, no multiple choice. He's very helpful if you need it and a nice guy. Sometimes kind of funny. Recommend.
Mediocre lectures for such hard essay tests!! Didn't learn a thing about how fed and local gov work, except for his gop favoritism.
HATED THIS CLASS! Failed it. He sucked and test were so hard! ughhh
The class was hard, but he is up front about that from the beginning. You will have to work in this class and participation helps. Always available for questions or problems, communication is key. Don't just copy his PPT pres. Take real notes. Do the study guides!!!! Prof. Rasmussen enjoys teaching and wlll work with you.
Do not take this professor! His tests are practically impossible (ALL short answer and essay, NO multiple choice EVER). His PowerPoints are pretty ridiculous, and his study guides for the tests don't help students adequately prepare at all. Basically, if you want to get an A (or even a B) in Government, Rasmussen is NOT the professor to choose.
I took gov. 2302 with him. He is a nice man and is very passionate about government. However, this was by far the hardest class I had last semester and I will NEVER take one of his classes again. The tests are extremely hard even if you spend hours/days studying.I made an 89 in the class. I cried before and after every test. STRESSED ALL SEMESTER
I had him for maymester and he was pretty fair. Gives away bonus points, which really helps and doesn't post grades too often. His tests are essay and short answer, but use detail and you will score well. He's available to help, but make sure you take notes not just the powerpoints, because you will not have all the info you need for tests!
I had him for maymester and even though the class started at 8am he tried to keep things lively (which didn't always work). I enjoyed his class a lot. There are a lot of discussions and his tests are only short answer and essay. The tests were easy if you had all the notes. Discussions are fun if you participate.
Great class. Really enjoyed it. Its fun, dynamic and interesting.
He is really good at teaching. You can follow what he is teaching. If you go to him for help, he will really help you. It is just a matter of asking.
Great professor, and funny. He helps when you ask him to, but you have to do the work. Come on people!, this is college, don't expect someone to give you the grade without earning it. Take him!!
Great professor. He is very smart, knows his material and makes the class VERY fun! You won't regret taking his class. Be serious about it, do the work, study and you will do GREAT! Class is not for lazy students. Take him!
Amazing teacher! I have zero interest in government and he made it so I could follow. I basically blew off the class and got a C. As long as you pay attention you can pass. Test are hard at first but you learn and get it down. Hard part I thought is the current events quizes. Never used the book, you don't need it.
Professor Rasmussen turned a usually boring class into an entertaining environment! If you take yourself too seriously don't take his class cause he likes to joke around about things. He is an awesome professor and he makes you want to come to class!
This class is harder than what I was expecting, mostly because I did not give it my all nor study for any test. If you study the study guide and do the notes and little extra credit, you should get an A. I walked out with a B mostly because I knew a lot of the subject prior. I never used the book, dont buy it. Just study!
Overall a pretty good teacher. With all the essays on his test it is like writing a book, but he grades them fairly leniently. It is almost impossible not to at least get a B in his class.
Prof Rasmussen is an awesome teacher! He makes learning government easy to understand and keeps you interested the entire time! You learn so much in his class because he teaches things that are relevant to life and relevant to the world. He is a funny teacher and is really entertaining. It is not hard to get an A or a B. TAKE HIM! BEST GOVT TEACHER
HE IS AWESOME! I loved his class. He is really funny & you can tell he's passionate about political science. He does grade slightly hard, I always made B's on the exams because they were essay format. You HAVE to study to be successful. But I recommend him & I will be taking him for 2302 :)
Went to every class, did extra credit assignments, studied and prepared for all tests, took leadership position for group presentation, but happen to be a conservative and didn't get an "A" because of it. Don't take him if you walk the GOP line!! It's ridiculous!!
Great Professor! Kept the class interesting and fun. Not hard at all. Pay attention in class. All the tests are written, but are super easy if you attend class and pay attention. Stay up to date on current events as well for quizzes.
Prof. Rass is awesome! If you take notes and listen and stay engaged you will be fine! I recorded his class AND took notes because face it we all day dream! He is super nice and WILL NOT stuff his political views down your throat!
Professor Rasmussen is a great professor! He has a great sense of Humor and makes the class interesting! He knows government well. if you Pay attention and attend his class, you'll make an A or B :)
Offers TONS of extra credit. Easily made my B into an A. Knows his stuff and tries to make class fun. He's pretty funny too. Test's are 2 essays (he gives you questions to answer, so it's not bad) and 3 short answers. Sounds daunting but is not difficult. TAKE HIM!
he is good professor but for someone like me who has no interest in govt at all his class wasnt the easiest. It was mainly the test b?c they are essay format instead of multiple choice and hes not the easiest grader. If you write someething down you will get points though. The book isnt really needed. If you like govt then i would reccommend him.
Made a fairly easy A. Didn't use the textbook once! Don't waste your money.
Great professor! Don't waste your money with the book, as long as you show up and pay attention you'll do great. He also gives out a ton of extra credit and is really nice if you have questions or need some help. One of the best professors I've had at Collin.
I've had him for two semesters and have excelled both times. He is hysterical and is passionate about govt..which is difficult b/c its so boring!!! I'd definitely recommend him to anyone. Exams are written though and he grades fairly hard. But offers a lot of extra credit to make up for it.
The best professor ever! You must take his class, he's funny and gives extra credit. Tests are fairly easy to my surprise. He makes the class fun. Political science is not my strong subject.
Great professor! Very easygoing, lots of extra credit and you don't need the book! I took him for both govt classes because I liked his class so much. His tests are all essay format but if you take plenty of notes and do the study guide you'll do well. Take him! He makes government interesting!!
Easy work, somewhat time consuming because there are a lot of assignments including a 7 page politician report, however, no book needed and attendance is not required and he posts his PP on blackboard. The key is, his tests are short answer ans essay format and he gives a broad review so it makes it somewhat challenging to study but an easy grader.
He is a great professor! He jokes around during class and gives out a lot of extra credit opportunities. I wasn't expecting to like this class but he made it interesting.
I hate Government but he made the class awesome. I'm taking his Texas Gov class. I missed half the semester and still passed.
Awesome dude, great teacher. Took a maymester from him, and knocked out Govt in 2 weeks. He is a great talker, great energy. His tests are definitely difficult - short answer and essay, and he most definitely grades on the hard side. But if you study and do the extra credit, you can absolutely get an A. Bryan rocks, take him.
I loved Professor Rasmussen! I took him for maymester; he actually made maymester 4 HR GOVT class (Mon-Fri) FUN! Take him if u need to take GOVT in summer! Funny and laid back. Learned a lot during those few weeks. FYI he grades hard on exams, but should be fine if u pay attention in class and do extra credit
I LOVED HIM! He was awesome! He actually makes the class fun, he is so great! I highly recommend taking him, he's not too hard but not too easy either, the challenge comes with his tests, no multiple choice just short answers and essays. Just take the studying seriously or else your done for. But he really is a great dude.
Great teacher! I loved the class! I really didn't know what to expect but, he made the class fun but, you learn and think a lot! Final and midterm are essays so study as much as possible. Class is fun but, this not an easy A class which I like! It was an awesome challenge type of class. Would definitely take him again!
Pro. Rasmussen has completely changed my attitude towards government. If you want to be in a class you'll actually enjoy, TAKE PRO. RASMUSSEN! The material is extremely clear, he's a spot on professor and if you can't tell, anyone that's taken his class has loved it. I can't even find a bad review on here.
I'm not into government or politics but he really made me get into it! He is a great talker and is really funny, which keeps you engaged. Attendance is necessary for success as most of the test is over material he spoke about in class. He is a tough grader but if you show up and listen in class you should do fine... He wants to see you do well!
Professor Rasmussen made Government interesting! I was not really into politics or interested in learning more about them, but he made me want to learn. This was a great class to take as this was my first semester back in college in about 6 years. The tests are essay, but don't be scared. Great teacher! Great class!
Rasmussen was great! I really enjoyed his class. He obviously put a lot of care into the course, and showed interest in what students think. I was not expecting Texas Government to be my favorite this summer, but it was by a mile. Take his class if you get a choice.
I was expecting to sleep through this class but he made it very fun and interesting. His passion for the subject really shows and he was able to get the whole class excited and comfortable sharing their opinions. Tests are written but they are not difficult, he grades easy and has extra credit opportunities. Highly recommend taking his class!
Three written tests, a debate, one group project and a couple other small group activities. Gives a lot of extra credit. His lectures are great and interesting, and are essential to getting an A on tests. You don't even need the book just go to class and you can get an A. I don't recommend this class for people who hate group work. Attendance req.
Do not take this class, the notes are unclear and do not cover what is on test day. I will not take this professor again.
I have taken Professor Rasmussen for two semesters and he is equally passionate about both courses (Fed and Texas govt). Very interested in his student's ideas and seems to care about them. Willing to help clarify if you ask. Very clear lectures and very knowledgeable. There is group work, 3 exams and 1 paper. You must work hard to get an A.
Prof. Rasmussen was a great professor that loves what he teaches, and it shows. It's a hard class if you aren't into politics, but it helps open your eyes to the world around you. He gives good lectures. You must study/read for tests- can't go just off of lectures. I would take him again, but had to work hard for an A.
Had him for Maymester The class was okay, but much more difficult than I expected. Tests are short answer / essay and 20 MC questions His lectures can get very long and dry, but he tries to break them up by encouraging the class to talk about issues I would recommend participating in class , take notes on slides as the ones he posts are incomplete
Great professor! I actually didn't like government before his class. if you don't want to participate then don't expect a good grade. his lectures are fun and participation matters. you will get the grade you work for.
He's a fine professor and is a nice person, he gives enough extra credit opportunities but his exams are difficult as they include an essay, short answer responses, and multiple choice questions for each exam. He is slow in entering grades, and if you are not a talkative student good luck. He does not give feedback as to why he takes away points.
Took him for the express 8 week course. Replied one time to my emails and never again, never gives feed back as to why you missed points on assignments, and has very vague PPTs. Gives extra credit and study guides for tests that do help somewhat. Be prepared to participate and fill out study guides on your own.
Very discussion-based and lecture heavy, copying the powerpoint probably isn't good enough. There were 3 tests, including the final, two papers, and one group project. The tests are 20 MC, 3-4 short answer, and one essay. He gives a review but it's hard to study if you're not in class. He rarely gives perfect scores on anything written.
He is a nice guy. Passionate about political science and really tests his students on the "critical thinking aspect" of government. The test are half multiple choice and the other half is written essays! There are no wrong answers but you have to logically talk about chosen topics and he NEVER and I mean NEVER gives full credit on an essay.
He offers a lot of extra credit throughout the semester. He's very passionate about political science and attempts to teach government from a political scientist standpoint. You have to pay attention in class because his tests are half multiple choice and half short answer.
He is a very nice guy, but all he knows how to do is lecture. Everyday only about 5 people show up since all he does is read powerpoint& all the work must be done outside of class. There is a terrible group project thats impossible since no one will communicate or do their part. I like his open-mind and how he gives many extra credit opportunities.
Easy A in this class.
Amazing lecturer, always gives feedback and extra credit. Encourages students throughout the class and does everything to help.
Reading the textbook is not majority but is very helpful. His lectures are very good and very detailed. Each student is given a current event, discussion topic, and put into a group project. These are simple grades as long as you do them. You will also have two papers to write. His test are 20 multiple choice, 3 short answer, and an essay.
I took him for dual credit and he was great! The class was easy for me. There is 3 tests, a group project, 2 papers, and 2 individual assignments. The syllabus is clear.
I highly recommend Professor Rasmussen. Although this class is lecture-heavy, I don't even mind because he makes them interesting! He has a sense of humour and is understanding. Overall, it is clear he wants his students to succeed. As long as you take notes, and prepare for exams with the review, you will do well.
Great Professor and great guy, he's super understanding about missed lectures and will help you on his own time to get the lecture information. Teaches exactly to the tests he makes so just pay attention in class and take notes. He makes review outlines for tests! Love him!
No feedback on essays or essay questions on test. Slow to grade (midterm paper didnt get graded until 30 days later.). The in person lectures were great but online videos he posted were monotone and difficult to understand. Multiple extra credit opportunities which he still grades hard on. Textbook was a waste of money.
I took this class as a summer course. Generous teacher if you are an active class participant. Easy to get a C, hard to get an A. Provides ample extra credit, including for high attendance and participation. Tells you questions on the next test on the day after each test. Email him for more feedback on your papers. Textbook is a waste of money.
Great professor. Very passionate and knowledgeable about subjects. Uses a power point as a skeleton and builds on bullets through his lecture, so directly taking notes from slides is the bare minimum. Tests aren't too hard, lots of gimme points and writing portions aren't difficult so long as you can bring up examples and explain topics.
A very good professor. Makes everything required for an assignment very clear, and we go over everything that is on the test in class. Allows for open discussion of local, statewide, and national issues.
He has PowerPoint presentations, but the actual information is in his lectures, so you have to go to class and take notes. He encourages discussion and is extremely knowledgeable about his subjects.
AMAZING! Absolutely loved him. Easy going and hilarious lectures. Encourages class discussions, but don't have to participate. Very clear with assignments and exams, generous grader. Gives lots of extra credit, late credit, very understanding. Can not recommend him enough!
Very good professor with a great sense of humour. He offers plenty of extra credit opportunities so do capitalize on those if you sign up. It is important to be in class so don't skip out if possible. Notetaking of some form would also be beneficial. He is also relatively objective and is very inviting to debate and several perspectives.
