Lack of appearance in online courses. We went 4 wks. with no response or activity from the professor. Irresponsible.
Shuler teaches on line humanities. He does not participate in class activity, not answered for emails for 3 weeks. Gordon Rule requires 2000 words, at Midterm we have already 5,000. Very stressful. Take whoever, not him.
This teacher was exteremely difficult to deal with. He just up and dissappeared for almost a full month. The class had to contact the home campus to try and locate his whereabouts and figure out why he was basically not responding to any of his e-campus students. I defintely don't recommend him.
Took it online- essays are worth everything! In order to get an A in the class, all essays have to be an A. In order for a B, you need a B in all three essays. Don't recommend it- way too much effort on all other areas but b/c the essays may be weak- all work is worth nothing!
Shuler sucks
Unethical, low moral character, dictatorial, prejudiced."I am the professor and you are not" and "drop the class" are his statements reflecting his academical approach in solving issues.
Professor SHuler gives time to make up essays. If you send him an email regarding questions in the class, he is very clear with answers. It is a lot of work, but at the same time you learn a lot.
He is very rude, and is not suited for the online class. The time required to write his ridiculus essays is way too much, just my final was 1500 words, not to mention the midterm AND 4 other papers. DO NOT TAKE HIM
Shuler rules. Very funny hombre. I took him when I was at the school in 97 or 98. These people here hate him because this guy hates mediocrity. They don't get this guys aesthetic. -JOHN
I cannot imagine having to sit through Shuler's class. I took Humanities online and was forced to watch several of his lectures. All I can say is that he is VERY unprofessional. Even burped during the recording. The bottom line is DO NOT TAKE HUM W/ SHULER.

This guy was NOT the best teacher at all. In the start of the semester he would e-mail you like 2 or 3 times a day, but at the end nobody heard from him for over a week. We were all clueless about our grades. He was very sarcastic, no help at all. Try to take someone else, trust me!
I took it online so I did not have much interaction w/him. It did take forever to get papers graded and he was very sarcastic and rude when responding back to questions. But I found the class pretty easy b/c you were able to takes quizzes 4 times to perfect them and they're multiple choice. The class was fine for me.

I really enjoyed his class. Yes, he is demanding and expects much from his students, but I thought he was very fair. It does take him a few weeks to grade papers, but I did not have an issue with that. The class overall was very good. I learned a lot and liked him.
If there is a good review for this teacher, than it's a fake/lie. He is not clear on what he grades you on. He marks harshly on essays (worse than my composition teacher). He doesn't respond back to emails within 24 hours like he said he would (more like days upon days). He's rude and by far the worst teacher I have ever had in my life.

Takes forever to grade. Very arrogant. Needs to take a couple of classes himself and brush up on how to speak to students. Better professors are able to motivate their students and make them enjoy learning a 'required' topic like humanities. He failed miserably.
He is all over the place with instructions and changes them at the last minute. He doesn't respond to emails quickly and when he does, he is sarcastic. He doesn't grade promptly. We got our midterm grade at the end of the class. You will spend a lot of time on this class writing papers with little guidance.
Not helpful at all. He changed the assignment just before they are due. Does not get back to you in a timely manner. I would not take him again.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!! I took him on-line and his instructions are not clear AT ALL ... He is continuously changing his mind. He is sarcastic and needs to learn how to communicate professionally and with respect. SAVE yourself and DO NOT take him. You'll be miserable.
Short, rude and no helpfull at all. He keeps sending the same emails over and over again about following the instructions, but he is not teaching at all. He doesn't check his emails often, he doesn't participate in the class. like i said, all he does is sending the same emails over and over, and there is his opinion and nobody else's
This professor is horrible. The worst professor I have had throughout my college experience. He is no help at all. It takes forever for him to answer an email and when he does answer your question he talks to you like you are a 5 year old. Avoid this professor at all costs.
It is very apparent that this instructor views his students questions as annoying. He will answer your questions but very rudely and sarcastically. He requires MLA listing for every weekly journal and grades MLA inncorectly. I will never take any of his courses again and I recieved an 89.8 on this one. PLEASE AVOID IF POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish I knew of this website prior to getting trapped in this class. Professor has changed directions a dozen times and thinks his class needs to be a full time job. Coming from a couple different colleges, I am glad he wasn't the first prof I came across at St Pete or I wouldn't go back. His attitude is awful as well as his instruction.
Prof Shuler changed the class requirements several times during the semester. I calculated the required word count, incl postings, at approx 10,000 words! He is inconsistent with feedback and, although he requires citations, he does not know proper MLA format. I withdrew because he did not have any grades posted by midterm and I value my GPA.
As everyone else has said, very improper and unprofessional. He requires MLA format but does not seem to know it himself, gets confused with simple citations and sources. Sends out emails each day repeating his syllabus but gives little and useless feedback. THIS PROFESSOR IS NOT RECOMMENDED.
"Suggesed" Minimum word count then called it required after. Only teacher I have ever had that requires citations on midterm essay questions. Is totally useless as a teacher.
I think he makes us confused, on purpose. He gives us a web site on citations, then tells us it is not accepted. If the citations are wrong, or there is too few words, the paper does not get graded. Automatic C(less work for him)The student work load is way more than need be and his emails seem canned. I did not feel he even read one of my entries.
I agree with everyone's posts. This is the worst teacher ever. I highly suggest that you do not take his class.
Every previous post about this professor is dead-on. He forces you to use his corrupt version of MLA formatting. His directions online are confusing and sometimes contradictory. He inundates you with banal emails which are just copies of the syllabus. He forces you to use waaaay too many sources for papers and essay questions. Avoid at all costs.
Okay, I just want everyone to know when I first started this class I was freaked out by all the comments about Prof Shuler. It is BOGUS.. he was a great teacher, very helpful and responded to all of my questions very quickly. Very nice... and yes he does give quite a bit of work but no more than any other Prof I have had. I have a great experience!
He was a horrible teacher, Learned nothing at all. He was very unclear about everything. I had to have shoulder surgery during his online course midterm, so I wrote him 3 weeks before my surgery asking if I could take the exam early or late, and he refused he told me I could take it the same time as everyone else, making me obv fail his midterm.
His directions for papers are unclear and he doesn't welcome questions. I enjoyed learning the material but he was the worst professor I ever had.
Online. He was not that bad! Just read the text and do decent on the quizzes and paper are you will be fine! Trust me, I have had a lot worse.
I was shocked at all the bad comments about Professor Schuler. He is strict, but very Fair! As long as you do the assignments, readings, quizes, etc... You will get an A. He always answered my emails and even had a great sense of humor and he is very passionate about his subject matter! Would definately take again!

Took the class online. He was very rude, he finds questions very annoying. We do a module every week and I did module 8, 10 WEEKS ago and it is still not graded. Shuler may be a hard (butt) but he is actually pretty good. He tells you exactly what he wants and how to acheieve it. The class was pretty easy for me except for the essays. He expects perfection for the essays, but toherwise its pretty decent. actually the last couple of weeks I didn't even read the text and passed. I took his class online.
He gives way to much work and essays are really hard.Do not take online!!! Hes very strict when it comes to writing essay. But overall easy on the work but hard on the essay.

Professor is very hard. Tests are difficult: all short answer, and must know everything, even the minor details. Essays are very precise, and you must follow the numerous directions to a tee. Definitely look for a different professor for your humanities classes.
He is slow to grade but papers but I didn't find the class to be hard at all. He is very clear and specific as to what he wants. All you have to do is follow his directions.
He is very precise so FOLLOW directions. This is not an easy course, but he is very fair with grades. The 3 essays are very important and weight heavy on your overall grade. Remember to FOLLOW the directions for essays, and you will get an "A" on all of them.
If you follow his guideline for weekly discussion postings exactly, he will only give you "minimum grade" for what he feels is minimum work, despite the requirements already being high. Even if you do more what is asked for, it does not guarentee you a 100 and he leaves no feeback in the forums on how you can improve. Save yourself the headache.
Hypocritical and ethnocentric! Do not take this instructor! He created his own citation format out of sheer laziness. He took half a semester to grade midterms, yet he accepts no late work. He provides no feedback and is astoundingly culturally insensitive for a Humanities teachers. He is unfocused and his workload absurd. Avoid at all costs!
I wish I read the posts before taking this class. I am back to school after taking some time off and find that I love school.... until I had this jackwagon.
Print out your weekly quizzes for use on the Midterm & Final. Do the Discussion questions. Submit your essay proposals on time. Do the essays well (use books.google.com for citations). Use the citation format required....- That being said - THIS INSTRUCTOR IS THE WORST EVER AND SHOULD NOT BE TEACHING - he RETROACTIVELY LOWERED OUR DISCUSSION GRADES
I LOVED his class. He is a hard tester, but he kept me intrigued! I have one more humanities class to take and I plan to wait till I can take one of his classes!

This teacher will kill the joy of learning. He doesn't give any positive feed back, he doesn't encourage postive communication with peers. He writes to the class in all caps, he will give you a bare minimum grade even if you follow his directions-if you can understand his directions that is. Worst Teacher Ever. Don't take this Class with him!
Good online class. Kind of rude. Rarely gives you an A on weekly modules. You have to go above & beyond to get an A on 'em. 3 essays, not too hard. I got 90% on the first 2 so far. Midterm & Exam are the same exact questions on the weekly quizzes, just print them out each week. Also have 5 essay questions included. Gives you a week to do them.
I was not aware of this teachers rating before I took his online class and I was stressed to the max every week. He seems to be a English major stuck in the Humanities department. He was obsessed with Citations. After I was half way through the course I read the comments on here & regretted not reading this first. Not my FAVORITE PROFESSOR! :(
Please do yourself a favor and don't listen to the negative comments on here. This is a super easy class. He practically spells out everything that you have to do to get an A. If you go a little above what he asks your grade will be high and make sure to cite your sources properly. If you put in the effort you will pass.
The class was not particularly hard, the professor was just EXTREMELY RUDE all the time. He made the class unenjoyable- and I probably would have really liked it if it wasn't for him. He is hard to please; even when I went above and beyond expectations, I still finished the class with a "B" This guy always screams and yells & its AN ONLINE CLASS!
Took the online class, so it was a lot of posts and commenting on other people's posts. You have to post more than what is expected to get a good grade. The essays were fairly easy, but getting your topics approved was frustrating. The quizes are from the book. The class is very time consuming, and the teacher is rude and unprofessional.
Horrible prof. YELLS online and is extremely rude. Work was not hard, just time consuming. Print all tests out to prepare for Midterm. Very hard to get an 'A' in this class b/c the Prof has an attitude but 'B' is attainable.Thinks he is a good teacher b/c he gives lots of work-WRONG. Do not recc this Prof, he is a jerk.
He is unnecessarily rude and arrogant, which seems hard to do over the internet, but he makes it LOUD and CLEAR. He uses caps locks a lot through emails to make sure HE gets HIS point across to YOU. I am an A/B student, and I am working my butt off to please this guy to get a good grade. Do NOT take this class. If I had known, I would have dropped.
Without a doubt the worst professor I have had at SPC. Disrespectful, rude, NEEDS TO LEARN NETIQUETTE as it is customary for him to type in all caps to point out that everyone in the class is an idiot. Not helpful. Contradictory between syllabus and directions for assignments. Does not interact with class. Maintaining an A, but struggling.
The instructor's attitude and communication style could be GREATLY improved. Emails throughout the course sent to students were very difficult to read due to their long ranting nature and excessive use of CAPS. When emailed with specific questions due to the lack of clear instructions, the instructor's responses were condescending and rude.
Really don?t understand why they haven?t relieved this guy of his duties yet. The very worst, I mean the worst instructor that I?ve ever had. Is there something he?s trying to prove? I really don?t understand. Maybe he was very lonely as a child.
All I really need to say is, HORRIBLE instructor!!! Do not sign up for this guy's class. Run the other way. None of the directions are clear, he is not helpful, and some of the requirements are a little out of touch for the class. Three citations required for a 250 word essay question is just one example.
Tough and for an 8 week online class prepare to spend 12+ hrs per week reading and writing in this class. He demands a lot of writing, with paranthetical citations (at least it is no APA, but he is very condescending in his syllabus and emails. Slow to grade and respond.
Prof. Shuler is crystal clear on what he wants from you and there is no wavering. However; he is extremely condescending and intolerant. For example if you accidentally post an essay into the wrong dropbox, you are automatically deducted 50%. You are allowed 1 post per assignment. Any later posts are ignored. No room for human error in this class.
He is by far the worst prof. I have ever had. His instructions aren't clear (he told us to put a topic in 2 places when really he only wanted it emailed) if you make a mistake based on his poor instructions he'll dock you either 50 or 100%. An A to him is 90%, not 100 and he wont tell you WHY he's docked you 10%. He's condescending and just rude

I cannot recommend this class at all. Very demanding alot of reading and his essay requirements are University standards not community college. He is very cut and dry and does not tolerate human or browser error. My mid-terms essay(s) did not load properly to the college's site he failed me even though the error was not my fault.
AWFUL! His standards for grading are beyond a university requirement. His essays requirements are long and tedious. Takes off 20 POINTS for 1 mistake. Only reason I got a B was because his ridiculous grading standards. Take this class if you enjoy tons of work on a useless subject.

By far the worst teacher I have ever had. Exams contained far too much content (University type work in normal college). Citation requirements were ludicrous (Can NEVER use Google or any source but a college database) Prof. is EXTREMELY rude and arrogant, especially in emails. Doesn't care what you have to say. Zero leniency. Ended up in the hospital for 8 days and offered to provide documentation as proof so I could be given an opportunity to submit research paper a few days later for full credit. Due to his zero leniency policy I went from an A for the semester to a low B. do not take his class, the amount of work you put in is not appreciated
Be ready to work! If you put forth the effort you will pass. If you take this class to coast you will fail miserably.
It certainly was not an easy course at all. If you're expecting to breeze through he isn't the teacher. But, I had a great experience in his course. I learned quite a bit and I really enjoyed his teaching style.
So many negative reviews for an amazing professor. Professor first day of class after reding the reviews I was ready to drop the class. glad I didn't. Yes, he can be very rude but that just him stop taking personal. He really interesting, gives second chances. I would love to take him again and again.
Prof. Shuler was pretty nice to me but still disappointed. Assignments were fairly easy but it was just TOO much! For midterm & final you have to complete 5 essays plus 15 cites on top of a 100 Q exam. I avg a high B & failed the exam portion & ended up with a D in this class. I was very upset as I have to take this class AGAIN! Don't FAIL Exam!
Heavy course work, reading for days, tough retention volume of studies. Didactics with Shuler are fantastic. He explains and reexplains everything because he is aware of the amount of work assigned. Don't like writing papers? Skip him. Want a challenge and instruction from a fantastic educator? Rush to him. Tough grader, but amazing educator.
Professor Shuler is okay. He sometimes picks on students who aren't doing the work. Its difficult to communicate with him. He lost one of my assignments and didn't own up to it. The tide turned about middle of the semester. I made up 2 assignments and he gave full credit for both. Show him that your serious and he will give you 2nd chances.
Makes you write a paragraph size paper with five sources. Waste of time/busywork. This is one of those classes that colleges make you take to waste your time and money. If you don't care about Japanese rocks, this class won't change your mind! Shuler may be a nice person, but he sux as a teacher! He conducts himself as if he is doing cancer research
