Bryan Snare is a great professor He makes trying to learn algebra at least fun. He throws sense of humor into teaching that makes you want to learn.
Prof. Snare is a very caring teacher. He wants to see everyone succeed. He gives every student all the tools to pass the class. If you need extra help, he is willing to give it to you. He makes math class fun and easy to understand. He is a "great math teacher".
He is a great teacher with a sense of humor that makes "mathin" fun.
Bryan snare is a really good teacher and fair. follow all his requirements for his class and you should not have any problems
Easy going professor with a nice sense of humor to keeps things going and classmates awake. Material covered was not always intriguing, but most always he found a way to make sense of it using real world scenarios. Would take again if ever needed another math course.
Great teacher, he's very considerate and cares about his students and is very willing to help you if you need it. Keeps the class interesting with plenty of stories. His class is fairly easy so long as you show up but he doesn't cut you any slack if you choose not to.
Very cool guy, seems as if he really wants to go the extra mile to help his students. This was his first semester teaching statistics but his teaching style seemed a little rushed and at times I taught myself most of the material while I sat their and watched him talked the majority of the time. Hopefully he will get better as time goes on.
99% talking about his home life. 1% talking really fast about statistics. It took me all semester to realize what x, p, and n were. I learned it through context clues. Not good at explaining things. Study guides don't line up with the tests.
I wouldn't call prof. snare a teacher. He rushes through all of the material, and when the "class" doesn't understand things he says" I'll tell you like my prof told me, I'll say it again but louder." and then chuckled and then went on to the next topic.. No wonder he has to curve the class. It makes me wonder why he left roanoke col. Don't take hi
These other comments are NOT accurate at all. Professor Snare is very willing to help every student succeed. These bad ratings are because of the subject NOT Professor Snare. He is knowledgeable and very helpful. He will take the time to help everyone if they are willing to put the effort into their work.
I had Prof. Snare in Fall 2010. He has stories of his family life, but spends too much time on them. He easily frustrated when asked to claify lecture topics. He also rushes through text materials. Tests and notes usually don't line up well. If you need this class. Think twice about having him.
Calls himself a true statistician, but really the true statistician is Prof. Billips because that?s who most people go too when they fail Snare?s class. I hated Snare?s class; he could NOT teach and then tried to blame it on the class itself. Snare was not only a waste of my time, but a waste of my hard earned money.
Great professor. Funny as hell in class. The other ratings are from bogus students that don't do any work. Snare is willing to go the extra mile to help all of his students.
I took this course because I read such great things about him here. Unfortunatlely, none of it was really true. Whenever I would ask a question, he just got upset and it made me feel stupid. I definetely do not reccommend him as a professor.
He was a good guy but I didn't really understand his teaching.
He is really nice math teacher. He helps a lot and his tests are very easy :) take his class, you will have fun! I recomend him for everyone.
He has the presence of becoming a good instructor. Has a bad ego and was more interested in what was going on in hallway than classroom. Was not very clear or helpful when asking questions. I was ignored several times when asking questions in class. Had to raise my voice to get his attention. I would not take his class again. He needs to grow up.
He has a lot of material to cover in a short period of time. Depending on the topic, there may not be enough class time to repeat everything. He is trying to instill some personal responsibility in his students by not spoon feeding them. Anytime I have gotten help during office hours he's been more than helpful.
Mr. Snare is awesome MTH 157 is easy you just have to know how to study. All the people that say he is a bad teacher want all the information handed to them and thats not how it works. Overall he makes sense, the students just have to put the time in.
Horrid teacher. Gets irritated when people ask questions. Consistently makes errors on reviews/test/notes. take a different teacher!!
not worth taking his class. he gets mad when students ask questions and seems to get a lot of stuff wrong & make lots of mistakes. like HE doesnt even kno the material. LAME! he totally sucks.
I love math & really good at it. I never had to study for math and always made A's. When taking Snare, he made no sense. I even went to the Math Center to get help on my homework and understanding the material. Even the math tutors said he wasn't a good teacher and didn't know the material; makes you wonder. Talked about family instead of Math.
Won't answer homework problems in class, most homework problems assigned are even (no solutions in bk), tests make you feel like you are in the wrong class. I felt bad for the kids who had no vector experience, can't imagine how lost they were. Spends half the class rambling, then rushes through examples in last few minutes. let out late every day
Willing to answer questions about topics related to the class. Does not like to cover something two or three times. Focuses on individual help instead of wasting class time on one person. Works well with the Math lab tutors. Overall he is a really good instructor.
Mr Snare does not expalin anything when asked questions. There is way too much homework and the problems he assigns are even, so there are no answers. I took his statistics class HYBRID and it was a bad mistake. He recorded lectures for us to watch and was late getting them posted for each test. He seems annoyed when you need help.
He has good intentions and is helpful when asked, but he frequently posted assignments and lectures late which created stress for us students! He doesn't explain homework problems well, and the tests don't really match the homework.
MTH157-HY2 is 7 weeks long, but covers 18 weeks worth of material. To complete all video lectures, notes & assignments takes 20 hours of work per week. In person Prof.Snare is enthusiastic, and engaging. He works to meet the students needs, and insure that they are prepared for tests. To succeed in this class requires time, time, time and work.
Does not assist with homework whatsoever even though this is strictly an online class. His video lectures are out of sync (voice does not link up with notes [hard to follow along.]) Tests are graded very late and 87% of the time the material in his test reviews DO NOT help with his tests. PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND FIND ANOTHER TEACHER.
Mr. Snare is a great teacher, always there an hour before class for any extra help a student needs. While he is young, he is well on his way to becoming a top notch professor. Do they homework, get extra help if you need it, and you will get an A
He may have improved since some of the folks below had him. He stayed focused during class. He assigned mostly odd numbered problems. He was very willing to help students in his office or via email. But, he was too easy. This is the only linear algebra class that non-mathematics majors take, so he should have pushed us to learn more of the subject.
Had Prof. Snare for 166. 175 was definitely much more difficult, but Snare is an excellent professor. If you do all the homework, and take advantage of his office hours for extra help, you will do great with him.
Had Prof. Snare for 166 and 175. 177 is definitely not as hard as 175, but regardless Snare is an excellent professor who makes himself available for extra help if needed. Stick to the homework and you will do great.
he doesn't know what he is doing in class. i can tell he knows a lot of stuff but that is it. he is a good public speaker in general but can't explain anything about math. too laud and excited for no reason.
Mr. Snare is hilarious! I struggle with math but his enthusiasm definitely makes it interesting. He is good with answering homework questions and also will give extra days for review so that there is plenty of time to study for the tests. My test grades have improved. He has video lectures on blackboard and notes galore! GREAT TEACHER
Spent AT LEAST 30-35 minutes of the class talking about another professor. His test are "from the homework," but they really aren't. Not a good teacher to take at all
The tests he creates cover concepts from the lecture and practised in the homework--no uncovered material. He is passionate about mathematics, which makes it easy to pay attention in class. He genuinely wants you to get the concepts of the course and will help in any way he can. He answers emails, phone calls, and keeps his office hours.
He is very friendly, nice and helpful, but his lectures are close to useless. He spends 40% of the time telling irrelevant stories or talking about unrelated topics. If there isn't enough material to cover, he won't dismiss class early; he'll ramble aimlessly.
Critical and helpful.
There should not be any mixed review he is a great professor! Test comes from notes and homework. He is always willing to help. Always very excited to teach as well :)
Most enthusiastic math professor I've had. Not the best at explaining material the first go round, and frequently goes 5 or more minutes over his time limit. Not the most organized either, mainly just teaches until material for test is covered, as opposed to scheduling a date ahead of time for tests.
Excellent teacher. Has passion for what he does and wants the class to do well. Tries his best to make it more fun. Hard class in general, but he is a great teacher!
Mr. Snare is a wonderful teacher. Class notes are online so you can print them off and follow along in class. The test review problems and study guides for every test is online so you can practice. Test come from the examples on practice and notes. If you attend class & pay attention you will be successful. Mr. Snare goes above & beyond to help.
Mr. Snare was a great teacher. If you come to class, pay attention, follow the notes, do homework, and do the test review, you will surely pass the class. The test follows the class notes and the test review. They work together. Highly recommend Mr. Snare to anyone taking stats!
Brilliant. May go slightly off-topic at times, but covers all necessary material. His tactic of setting a test date while teaching material for the test as a rough guideline of how much he still has to cover is excellent. Very enthusiastic, and has a unique way of drawing student interest. Recommended!!
Professor Snare writes on the board A LOT, but he is a great teacher, who covers the material well, and still finds time to tell fun stories in class. If you are having difficulty or need help, he is always available to help you understand the material.
Took this TrigPrecalc class as a prerequisite to my degree program. Having been out of high school for 8 years and doing this class over the summer (10 wks), it was definitely a challenge. His self-deprecating sense of humor makes him bearable, he grades homework for completeness (not correctness), and his tests are challenging. Overall: Good!
Really great professor. Elm Stats is a hard class but he really cares if you pass. There is not a lot of test or homework so you really need to work hard but it does pay off. You have to buy the book for his class but other then that no complaint. I would take him again.
His class was challenging. Doing as much of the homework as you could was the main way to understand the material since it takes practice to understand calculus. He keeps his students interested by telling funny stories. I would definitely take him again if he was teaching any of the higher math classes. Repetition of homework helps with the tests.
Be ready to do a lot of work by yourself. The lectures he posted were confusing so I had to rely on the book and other online help to understand the material. I would not recommend taking him or an online class. I received an A in this class because I worked very hard, not because he helped me.
Mr. Snare is an excellent teacher! Test are kind of challenging if you do not prepare for it and gives you time to finish your homework before its due. Mr. Snare puts stuff in perspective to where you can understand it better. Do not be afraid to ask questions he will answer any question you have.
Passionate and made me enjoy math. Would totally take Calculus with him if the class didn't require me to wake up at horribly early morning hours. (8:00am)
Mr. Snare tries very hard to make his lectures more enjoyable. His humor is lost on some but I found him somewhat funny. While he made perfect sense to me there were many in the class who did not understand the material, thus making him have to re-explain many things. There are only a few tests and minimal homework so it is an easy A if you study.
I had him for statistics and he was very helpful. One of my favorite teachers of the day because he makes the class enjoyable with his corny jokes. The class is hard but if you just study you will be okay. He really goes out of his way to help the students.
I got better instruction from youtube. Sign up for a torturer if you want to pass this class.
Instructor spends too much time talking about himself. He is below average in every aspect of instruction.
Mr. Snare is awesome! He keeps the lectures interesting and is clear on what he wants. He is available for help if you need it and relates well to his students. I highly recommend taking his elementary statistics class!
I took him for stat. If you aren't good at math, i wouldn't recommend taking him. He's super chill, only took attendance the first week. Super hard to understand and follow him though. He confuses me a lot and i have to get help from other people. I SUCK at math and I'm averaging about a 75 in the class.
Bryan Snare is probably the worst teacher i have ever had. He gets mad when you ask him to explain more in depth. He does bad trying to explain how to do something. Never responds to emails. He gets very side tracked. Doesnt give good advice/input, and expects everyone to know what hes taught even when the whole class has no idea. its awful.
He tends to go so far in depth that he looses a lot of the class, and will get noticeably frustrated if you ask him to repeat himself. He will speed through lectures if he feels rushed. Has office hours for help, however lots of distractions and a few times he was rushed for another meeting. Expects you to understand it fully after one lecture.
Mr. Snare, makes the class very difficult to follow. Every class seemed as if it was a rush to get all the material done in 50 minutes, and if you need to ask a question he does not have time. Is more worried about "Blessing your heart" if you yawn than teaching the material. Ask for help he wants you to watch his videos. Must understand in 1 class
I don't know why Mr. Snare has so many bad reviews, I took him Fall 2016 for MTH 157 and thought he was great. He does get sidetracked easily with his jokes (I thought he was one of the funnier professors I've had) but he doesn't have a predetermined time line of when your tests are going to be. He truly is passionate and wants you to learn.
I took Mr. Snare for Statistics and he was wonderful! I am usually weak in math courses and was so surprised that I could actually understand the material. He is super helpful during office hours. Tests are easy if you do and fully understand the homework. Put in the work and you will love having him for the course!
I had Mr. Snare for statistics and I actually loved his class. I have never been all that great at math but I was able to follow his teaching style very well. You definitely have to work for your grade but it is a pretty fun class.
Mr. Snare is all over the place with his lectures, he goes off topic and spends a lot on other matters. His lectures are awful and very hard to follow. The video would freeze which made it hard to follow which is not good for visual students. I would send emails and it would take him days respond. The class is very had for students to follow.
I just took Mr. Snare's Intro Statistics course online. The only complaint I have is that he did not return phone calls and rarely replied to email. This could be because I took a summer course. In any case, the class is beyond easy and he brings the subject to a level that people who hate math can grasp. I would recommend him.
it's usually hard for me to understand any math but his ways of teaching were great!
Professor Snare can go off topic on his lecture videos for his online classes but he made taking math online a BREEZE! You feel like you're right there in class. He does online Test Reviews with video chat with the class so you get to ask all your questions and he more than willing to work out problems. Test scores are weighted EXTREMELY heavy.
Best math proffesor I have ever taken. I recommend him to everyone. His video lectures are very helpful. He does not try to trick you on tests! He also has a test review before every test telling you exactly what's on it and what to expect and answers all questions. If I had to take anymore math I would try to take him.
He probably could make efforts to respond to emails more quickly and grade assignments in a more timely manner. However, he teaches math well, and if you typically struggle with math, he's you guy!Just watch his videos, fill in the lecture notes, complete the homework, and you'll be plenty prepared for the test. No trick questions, no surprises!
Wonderful math teacher. He explains all the concepts really well and cares about his students. Homework is always considerably more difficult than the tests and there are never any surprises. He lets you know exactly what will be on the tests and what you need to study for.
Do not take this guy. Save yourself.
Very helpful, caring teacher. If you asked a question or participated at all in class, response was either "Good Question", or "I think you're misunderstanding something", and he then went to great lengths to help clear up the misunderstanding. Worked very hard to help students recover after a rough first test, always available to answer questions.
Professor Snare makes time for his students and truly wants you to succeed. He is very good with explaining examples and concepts within lecture time. He gives you ample time for tests and properly prepares you for them.
I had Snare for Calc1&2. Hes the best math professor Ive ever had. He goes above&beyond to make sure each student has every tool necessary to succeed. His lectures go fast, but he gives ample opportunity for questions. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic both were only offered via zoom, but his story times/jokes made it easy to stay involved/aware
I've read Professor Snare's reviews, and I don't think the negative reviews do him any justice. He is a wonderful professor. I have never been a math person, and though he does go off-topic from time to time, his lectures were very helpful. He really works with his students to ensure they have a clear understanding of and can complete the material.
All homework before a unit is done at once and submitted right before the unit test. He grades extremely late. It's the last week of class and he still has not graded any of my homework and just surprised me with two C test grades, one from a month ago. There is no way for me to know how I'm doing like this. Lectures are filled with mistakes.
Great teacher, just do homework.
Professor Snare makes the impossible seem possible with his creative and fun delivery of challenging concepts. I will always choose him as my professor for any math class he teaches that is required for my degree path. I have taken 3 classes with him since starting with Western Pre-Cal, Cal 1, and currently in Cal 2. Best Prof ever!
Professor Snare I know you see these reviews. I'll use your own words to describe you. People will either love you or hate you. His lecture style is unlike any other teacher I've ever had, but I leave with a deeper understanding that I probably couldn't otherwise receive.
I truly believe that anyone that pays attention whatsoever will be fine. Your grade relies on your grades on his tests but he tells you exactly what is on them and does the easiest problems from the units. Highly recommend.
Only 5 modules and you only have one homework grade and one test grade per module. If you get a bad grade on a test, there's not much work to help level your grade out. To me, his lectures weren't very good; often confused me more than helped me. Slow grader. Would put questions on the tests that he wouldn't cover in the notes or the practice tests
Only really graded on 4 tests and a final, each test containing about 10 questions. If you miss a few questions your grade suffers a lot. I can't complain a ton however as this system is common in VWCC math courses, very hard to get an A. A little slow at grading and didn't offer any feedback. However, would take again if I had more math to take
Mr.Snare one of the realist, smartest, most down to earth math professor I have ever had. From someone who has always struggled with math I can truly say Mr.Snare brought the best out of me. Had him for Ca1-2, has great office hours and can confidently say that Mr.Snare genuinely cares for his students and their success. Top 2 professor & he not 2!
Bryan Snare is a chill instructor. However, a calm demeanor is different from excellent instruction, as with Instructor Snare, who needed help explaining even some of the most straightforward concepts. Students would arrange to meet with him after class only to leave his office more confused, which was a total disappointment for many.
Professor Snare was a great. Mth 263 is not an easy class, I definitely recommend taking his class but just stay on track with the homework assignments.
I think Bryan is more the capable of being a good professor however he seems to be too distracted by his personal life to give his full attention to his students. Being an online class he didn't have dedicated office hours and was sporadic replying to emails/texts. His grading also seems to be inconsistent and takes 3+ weeks to grade tests.
He WILL put in the work to make you succeed as long as you put in that same effort. Genuinely an amazing professor and an amazing guy all around.
Bryan Snare is probably not too bad in person, but online is a nightmare... He takes anywhere from 3-6 weeks to grade tests. He didn't grade half out our classes exams until a few days before the final exam. His grading isn't helpful and is tough. He usually takes 24hr+ for email. You're basically only graded by the exams. His videos are not good.
I loved Professor Snare, he made the material understandable and accessible through guided notes and video lectures.167 is graded almost entirely on 5 tests and a final. However, as long as a student puts in effort, they will pass this class. The ungraded homework assigned is for the student's benefit, and so I recommend one does that homework.
He grades super slow, is vague on topics he believes you "should already know", and doesn't help very much when you ask him questions. Also if you take this class in person check and make sure tests are posted before you go in to take it. I didn't check and had to waste half my day waiting on him to post the test that was due that same day.
Ineffective teacher! He assumes (making reference to this frequently) that we should already know certain skills without taking into account that everyone is coming from different backgrounds and schools. I suffered through his class my first semester at VWWC and ended up with a B. He grades harshly and there is little opportunity to bring it up
The GOAT!!!!!!!!!! Amazing professor, effort matters!!! He matches your energy, if you want to succeed he WILL make sure you succeed!!!!
Had him for two semesters, best math professor ever!!!
Had to transfer to online precalc unexpectedly and was nervous to take this class because I'm bad at math. However, I did pretty well in this class. Lectures were fine, pace was good, and practice problems were helpful. I ended up not needing help outside of the lectures. Test heavy, but offered reviews. Few grades otherwise. Flexible office hours.
Professor Snare is challenging but rewarding. The lectures are helpful, but staying on top of the homework is key. I found using Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook really helped with exam prep.
the goat!!!
I'm taking online course. A little more workload than other classes, but Snare is really accommodating - understands that people have life/responsibilities outside of school. Exams focus on whether you understand math concepts - little slip ups here and there don't matter as much as whether or not you're using the right methods to solve problems.
Best professor i've had by far. He brought more to math than just reading off a formula sheet or memorizing. Helped understand the material we were learning instead of just using a friggen packet yo. Dudes also hilarious
he's really funny
Mr. Snare cares about his students more than any teacher I've experienced. He tries really hard to make his lectures engaging and funny. Calc 3 is a hard class, but Mr. Snare did a good job explaining all the difficult concepts. Homework is submitted for a completion grade. I would 100% recommend Mr.Snare to other students.
