I've had this teacher for both 70 and 95.. his lectures are very clear and he's laid back on correction he will give u credit for your answer on a quiz even if your answer is wrong, as long as you show your work.Homework isn't due till the end of the term.He is also funny... i enjoyed his classes and i only wish he was teaching 111 next term
Bryan is a mathematical monster son! Extremely helpful, articulate, stimulating, thoughtful and best of all I always walk away from his class having learned something. Looking forward to MTH 252!
Tis truly an awesome teacher. I feel like i truly learned a lot while in this class and for the most part understand it all. If you get a chance i would say take a class from him
Great teacher for math. Not boring, is very fun. Just a cool guy all around, except for his stupid proficiency questions. Anyways, straight forward and good.
Brian is the best math teacher ever, seriously! I hate math and always struggled but I got an A in his class! It was easy to follow, group quiz, notes on test, partial credit for wrong answers, and just turn in hw doesn't matter if its right or wrong. BEST MATH TEACHER EVER! I really learned a lot, and still remember a lot of it!
Bryan is one of the best teachers I have ever had. THE best math teacher. He keeps the class fun and is very easy to understand, very clear and to the point. He doesn't make you guess what he is trying to say. I suggest that everyone take atleast one of his classes. You will not regret it infact, you will most likely be back for more Tardiff!
I loved taking Bryan's class so much that I am taking him again this term for 95 and can only hope that he is teaching 111 next term. I don't even want to consider taking another teacher's class. I have learned so much from him and am excited to learn even more!
Bryan is awesome!
Bryan is a great teacher. He doesn't take attendence, but he does give a lot of pop quizzes, and if you are not there, you miss those points. His tests are farily easy if you do the work and the study guides. He made Math 95 a lot of fun to take! Great teacher, and a fun class.
I HATE math, but Bryan has a way of explaining things so you completely understand them. He is the best math teacher I've ever had. He even managed to make it mildly interesting once in a while. My math grades were getting worse as I took higher classes, but I ended up with a B in Bryan's. He is very understanding and helpful.
Hands down, best math teacher in this school. I wish he taught every math cuz I want to take his math class for the rest of my college education. Do not hesitate- get in his class whenever possible. He rules!
First of all I HATE the proficiency sections! 2 wrong sentences dropping my score from 100 to 80% is a killer. Overall, he's a great teacher. I only had 2 classes a week and both at night, but he managed to cram in as much mathematical knowledge into my head as humanly possible without forcing us to do homework. I wish every teacher was a Tardiff.
Bryan does a good job explaining things. He doesn't make you feel dumb for asking questions and is there before and after class if you need help. Very clear on instuctions, good notes. Lots of quizzes, so don't miss class. You might think he is a student at first because he is rather young looking, has a little sense of humor.
Great instructor. Very clear, and very willing to spend time outside of class working with students. I was having trouble with quadratics and he gave extra help! Not bad to look at, either ;)
Absolutely the best math teacher I've had! He is so clear in his explanations! I was actually able to understand everything and it wasn't boring at all. Who knew I could actually like math. If you get an opportunity to take one of his classes- DO IT!
The best teacher for any upper math classes. I've had most other math instructors, but with this one you will not be confused on the subject matter.
He make things so understandable ,and if you need any help he will see you on his spare time ,and help you understand if you don't already understand it.
I am actually understanding things that I didn't previously.
Makes everything very undestandable. Would recommended him to any one who is taking math classes.
The istructor told veryone he first dy of clas that unless you got an or a B in MTH70 that you do not deserve to be in his class! I thought that was not fair since te wchool requires that you have a C.
Bryan, is indeed a great teacher. He made me like maths. Though he is very strict, but he will teach you to the extent that you will be confident of your own. I can proudly say that i can solve any algebra problems. I highly recommend him for any student that does not like maths.
Funny guy. Class was hard, but enjoyable with him. Didn't finish only because I slacked off. DO THE COMPUTER HOMEWORK.
He is a great teacher and you can learn a lot, but his grading is that of satans spawn.5 points for homework but he will give you negative points(-15) if he feels like it. Also collects homework at random so watch out
Tardiff was a good teacher. He didn't spend all class deriving and proving equations. He just focused on the basics and applications. Calculus can be a challenging topic but he made it seem easy. Exams have easy proficiency questions worth 5 points but you lose 10 for getting them wrong. Expect to put a lot of time and effort into this class.
Very cool and cute in a nerdy way. I waited 7 years since taking an algebra course, and jumped straight into this and failed. I DO NOT recommend that. Try to take right after MTH 111 so that concepts are still fresh in your brain cause you WILL use them. He didn't make you feel stupid when you asked questions, and tried to be clear as possible.
First, i didnt really need to take more math but I took it anyways because i very much enjoy his teaching, clarity, and overall a great teacher and a friend. he is probably the only teacher i really enjoy actually got info absorb into my brain. i can say soo much about this guy, he is truly a real professor!!
Bryan is sooo hot!! Also a good teacher and a friend! He is the only professor who TRULY know how to absorb concepts and cares about students success! Would love to take him for every class!
Bryan is such an awesome teacher, probably the best math teacher I've had. He's incredibly clear and explains everything super well. He goes over difficult hmwk questions, gives you great notes, and prepares you really well for quizzes and exams. I'm so sad he's not teaching 112, because he's is a fantastic teacher.
Loved this class!
Bryan is the best math teacher I have ever had. Having zero interest in math before this class I was suprised to find that I looked forward to attending every day. He explains everything quickly and very clearly. I wish him the best and I'm so glad I took his class.
I highly recommend Bryan! Do your homework, go to class every day and pay attention- you'll do well. I hate math, but I looked forward to going to class because he makes it interesting. He does all he can to help you get a good grade- will review homework problems and help you when you need it. Great sense of humor, too! He makes math enjoyable.
bryan is a fantastic instructor. super clear with every concept. definitely hoping to have him teach me again in the future.
Seriously the best math teacher in the whole world. I never thought I could make it to calculus, I'm suffered though so many math classes, but I made an A in Bryan's class. Do all your homework, and ask questions in class. I swear, this guy could teach calculus to a monkey.
I don't know why he doesn't teach at Oxford, he's the best instructor in the world. If you do your homework, and write down everything he writes down in class, and then go over the notes at night, you will make a good grade in his class.
Attend every class! Homework and pop quizzes (group work allowed) are collected/assigned at random at the very last second. Very important to attend every class and stay kept up on homework! Best math teacher I have ever had! Do not take him if you aren't able to commit to attending class. Highly recommend this instructor!
I was completely dreading taking math again, because it wasn't any fun in high school and teachers never took the time to explain. Bryan was amazing. If you go to class, take good notes, do your homework, you will do just fine on the tests and quizes. Very approachable and easy to understand.
He explains everything in a way that everyone gets it. He also goes over questions on the homework. I would recommend doing your homework because he collects them randomly. Also there are pop quizzes but you can talk to your neighbor. I would recommend his class to anyone in a heart beat.
terrible teacher, he goes really fast over lecture. he also doesnt give partial credit in exams however, he does his dumb prficiency questions where you get 5 points if you get it right and -10 points if you get it wrong, this section of the test is what made me get a D in his class proficiency questions are also really tricky avoid this instructor
Bryan is a great teacher, he does do the profieceny questions which are 4 if you get it right and -10 if your wrong. But he does this so you understand the concepts of the text. The questions are really not that hard. Just pay attention, attend class and you will do just fine. It's Caculus you will struggle.
the number one thing with Tardiff is he has these profiecency questions that are completely unfair. if you read below you will know. He makes you dependent on his teachings, so trying to reference the book is out of the question. He is a very harsh grader. The only thing that matters are the test, which those profiency questions will hurt you.
Absolutely one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He does not make you feel stupid for asking questions, and covers anything and everything; even if we spend the entire lecture going over homework. He knows what he's doing, and he is preparing his students to use math independently; so yes, you have to actually learn it.
I've since complete the calculus sequence up to and including 256, and am now taking 400 level math courses at UO. Despite this, Brian remains my most memorable instructor. His style and instruction in 251 prepared me and lit a fire in me to enjoy calculus, and math in general. Highly recommend. Watch out for his proficiency questions, however. :)
Bryan is very nice and funny. I enjoyed his class. He often challenged us with some of his assignments. He does test and grade very hard, but it's math so it does have to be exact. He grades on a curve, which helped me big time. Good instructor!
Nice guy, and the best math teacher I've had at Chemeketa (although that isn't saying much). He grades very difficult, and his grading system makes very little sense. DO THE HOMEWORK and you will pass. Definitely show up to class as well.
Bryan's notes will help you out tremendously for tests. He gives partial credit on tests for work if you made a simple mistake. I recommend Bryan for anyone who needs a good math teacher!! My classmates and I always compare our current instructor to Bryan and it's a sad comparison...
Bryan is a great teacher, very helpful. The class isn't easy, but the Bryan is very clear with his teaching and helps out if needed. Great teacher!
Brian in a FANTASTIC math teacher! I have really learned so much from him. Ive never beensuper good at math, but with his teaching style i totally and completely get it. Im doing very well in his class. I would hands down reccomend him as a teacher to anyone who wants to learn. He does a great job!
Very harsh grader. I got an answer right, but didn't use the correct formula and he gave me 2 points out of 14. Not very approachable either.
He goes through material very quick. It's easy to understand and he is very helpful if you have questions. I went to his office hour and he wasnt very helpful so I say ask in class. He grades REALLY harsh so you need to do homework and understand the material well.
Hey knew his stuff and is a very smart man, but is horrible as a teacher!!! Not recommended at all!!! teaches things in ways that are not relevant to most people...
I cannot say enough about how GREAT of a teacher he is. Bryan teaches in a way that is easy to understand for those who HATE math. Also, he was very flexible and helpful when my final exam got lost at the testing center. Tip: ask him questions after class and he'll remember you and favor you.
Bryan Tardiff is really very great at what he does and I really enjoyed having him as my teacher. He's very kind too!
His teaching is extremely hard to understand.
Worst math teacher I ever had, math 95 is a hard course and this teacher made it harder by not clarifying the work and be a really hard grader. If you miss one day your screwed, first day of class showed us pass students grade and how there was only one or two A's and B's and the rest failed, huge discouragement!
Bryan Tardiff was a great teacher. He was clear and concise. He liked in class participation and as long as you did your homework and came to class you could pass the class. He seemed to care about students learning and succeeding.
Probably one of the most intelligent people I've ever spoken with. Always willing to help. He's very quick with material and goes through two lessons per day. The only problem is it makes sense when he explains it, but goes too quick for the info to retain. Random homework collects and quizzes. Basically don't plan on getting sick, ever.
Bryan has high expectations of his students which I personally found actually helped me excel in the course. If you are willing to attend each scheduled class and do the work expected of you I highly recommend this professor!
I would not recommend this so called teacher to anyone. All papers start out at -20 points. So if you miss 4 out of 40 questions you get an F instead of an A. If you are in MTH095 or lower he will constantly remind you when the last day to drop the class is
Bryan thought me most of 254 in addition to 255, after I had a terrible teacher. He was very straight forward in lecture, and made it exciting and tried to tune into the class' interests as a whole. He'll learn your name if you put any effort into class at all and he really likes students who ask questions and is a really nice and funny person.
Grading scale is -20 to 10. Must have new version of the book. Random homework collections. Easy to follow along and take notes. Goes over homework problems at the beginning of class.
Bryan is a great teacher. I was always really bad at math, but he made it easy to understand. He takes time to help students and he's very funny. Yes, he does start his grading at -20, which is a bit odd, but as long as you actually do the homework you'll be fine.
Not very helpful, when asked "Try Harder" is the comment received. Too bad, like him as a person, but not a very good teacher.
One of the best Math classes I've ever taken. Brian breaks down every lesson so that anyone can understand it. He has his own ways of learning and teaching which really makes it easy to understand. His style takes a little to adjust to but he is very helpful! Do your homework, take notes on every lecture, and come to class, And you'll pass.
Tardiff was a fantastic professor. That said, you MUST come to class: homework collections are periodic, but unannounced. Tardiff explained concepts in a clear and easy-to-understand manner, and gives you the opportunity to work through problems in class. So long as you're putting in work and asking for help, you'll get the grade you need.
Bryan is one of those rare teachers that can bring you from the brink of fear and back into the light of mathematics. He is a little awkward, and he'd be the first to admit it, but he makes up for it with clear, solid lectures and his unflinching attitude towards even the most stubborn problem. Thank you Bryan, you are awesome! TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
There is a ton of homework, and if you don't turn it in it's -20 points. He collects about 5 homework assignments, so it gets annoying. You can do every assignment except one, and be screwed for what equals three assignments. If you miss class, then you risk getting a -20, or missing a pop quiz. He doesn't care if someone dies, so no make up work.
Bryan is easily one of the best instructors I've ever taken. While the class is based on a lot of homework, you will learn with the way Bryan teaches. He makes even the most difficult math topics simple to learn. As long as you show up every day and do your homework, you will be successful. Great class that I highly recommend if you're needing it.
I have never been one to like math or be good at it, but I actually learned and understand math more than ever with Bryann. he is a nice guy and tells you what is expected. he is always there to help and want his students to do well. He is clear and his lectures are great- provides lots of examples and goes over any problem if student is stuck!
Harsh grader, not empathetic about life events. Found him to be creepy with me, some other girls in my class said the same thing. Makes weird jokes about being introverted and explains how in his world everyone starts at negative points, in life & with his homework scoring system. Just a depressing, weird guy. Knows his stuff but bad at explaining.
Great teacher and fairly easy system to follow. AS long as you go to class, copy down the notes and do the homework this class should be easy.
One of the best Math teachers i have ever encountered. Explains everything in a simple easy to understand manner. I can say that math is not my strong suit. He randomly collects HW. Quizzes are every other week allowing you to elaborate with your peers and are open book. Follow along with taking notes and hw should be a piece of cake!!!
Quite literally one of two instructors I've had that made algebra click. Math is not my strength yet came out of each of his classes feeling more confident and less afraid of the material. Due to homework being randomly collected, you will have to do all of the assignments. He genuinely cares about you understanding the material. Ask questions!
Brian explains everything really well! Easy to pass his classes if you won't skip classes and ask if you don't understand some material.
Bryan cares about your success. Read the entire chapter. Do all example/practice questions. Along with lecture/classwork/homework, you'll have ample opportunity to absorb the material. Show up to each class since he randomly collects homework. This was my first college course in over 27 years and I had never earned an A in Algebra before this.
You should have smarter neighbors who can solve NASTY pop up quizzes 10 times during a term. He suddenly asks to hand out your homework. No notice in advance. Late homework is not acceptable. Minus 20 points for a penalty. He asked to bring all homeworks at the final test in advance, but he didn't take. He's a good teacher but I was not impressed.
He is an amazing teacher! I took Mth070 + Mth095 with him, he gives great examples, grades fair and he takes the first 15 minutes to answer any problems you need help with. He also lets you use notes on the midterm/final. If you miss class and he collects homework that day, you get a -20 but at the end of the term he'll drop your two lowest grades!
Bryan is great! I hate math and never thought of myself as good at it but he made things very easy to learn. first part of class we went over any questions we had about homework which was super helpful. we only used the book for homework which was nice because his lectures came from him, not reading a book. Tests werent too hard and we got notes.
Took an online class with him so I didn't really interact with him that much. The work was through Mathlab and was very clear with due dates and such. The class went fine for me but I did email him once and received no answer, it wasn't urgent but he might be a bit slow/not reply to emails and questions. No idea how he is in person though.
Kind of a nerd, but a cool one. Has a relaxed teaching style and a very good way of breaking things down in an understandable way.
Solid Math Teacher choice. Knows what he is talking about and has a great way of breaking things down and showing you practical shortcuts that other teachers wouldn't teach. He has a dry sense of humor and is a nerd, but a good professor.
I always struggled with math but now taking it with him I actually understand what im doing. He breaks everything down so clearly and everything makes sense. Totally recommend him!
This was the worst class I have ever taken. Boring lectures, huge amount of homework and horrible format on test. He didnt do a great job of teaching to different learning audiences. His class was just ridiculous. His midterm and final format was extremely confusing. I did well on homework, but final/midterm are what ruined my grade. Horrible!
He's very clear in his lectures and cares about every student, don't be afraid to raise your hand. He did make us do 2 pop quizes for the term and it's an easy A if you are a responsible student. When it came to tests he would use the same problems from study guides and examples from class, a great professor.
I love his lectures. Be sure to take notes and write down all he says. It helps a lot.
This class is amazing for online. Very easy. On the first day of class he uploads all the assigments and every assigment has a due date but its only a suggestion because everything is due the last day of class. Every chapter has a vidoe on how to do the homework, so the book isn't really needed, unless you want it. The final is with a proctor.
Not very organized. Would mark you wrong on problems if you forgot a negative in your work but put it in your answer. Marked you wrong if you didnt put arrows to The next step in solving your problem. Makes midterm and final only a few questions but each one is worth so many points so if you miss one part youre screwed
The way he collects work was very random and your grade will be based mostly on your tests. My grade wasn't based on homework, but still do it because he collects it at random and not all of it was collected. I feel like his teaching style is a bit rushed and most of the time he couldn't finish a chapter. Pick a different prof. who is versatile!
Loved this class and professor! Show up prepared and organized. You're in college now, you should be doing that anyway. Quizzes and homework are important, but midterm and final will have more say over your grade. If you struggle with math, finding a study buddy will help a lot. Great teacher!
Absolutely wonderful professor. I recommend highly!
Explanation of problems is unclear and skips steps. Monotonous work that doesn't actually help you understand the problems or how to solve them. Also, even if you get good grades in all the homework and on quizzes, will still fail you if you do poorly on the final. Not a very reachable person.
Worst teach I have ever had by far. He only lectures and talks for hours without explaining hand on properly how to do the math. Everyone in the class had there heads down tired after listening to him talk for hours. If you want to pass I wouldnt take his class you wont learn a thing
Great teacher!
The teacher asked you to hold on to every homework assignment through the whole term, then they would be due on random dates and if you weren't there that day not only did you receive a 0/10 on the assignment you got -20/10. yes, a NEGATIVE. There was also pop quizes and he didn't have any organization for due dates or etc. it was on his mood.
I failed this class once, got behind and then failed the final . Bryan is a good teacher and if you show him the respect that you should all professors, you'll have a better experience. He is strict. no late work. no make up. no extra credit. took the class a second time and got an A, but i can confidently say i know the material now.
I have never enjoyed math. However, Brian Tardiff explained things I previously couldn't understand in a way that I could Understand. He was willing to answer questions after class, and he has a sense of humor. He made learning easy! If you don't have your homework ready when it's due, you will not be able to make it up! Be ready and show up!
Bryan Tardiff was a great instructor to start math again after having not been in school for years. Make absolutely sure you write anything handwritten big, neat, and well organized! You understandably lose points if he cant decipher your writing. Overall an incredibly well organized instructor!
I just got done in this class and was it a workout. I found this professor very direct and clear to understand. He's tough but in a good way. Coming out of this class with a good grade achievable as long as you show up and do the work.
Explains things well when asked (via email, as this was a fully online course). Easy to get a hold of; responds within a good amount of time. Quick to help fix illegible typos in the online textbook (writing out the problem). He explains questions outright, but also gives you a page number in the textbook to help understand better.
Explains things well when asked (via email, as this was a fully online course). Easy to get a hold of; responds within a good amount of time. Quick to help fix illegible typos in the online textbook (writing out the problem).
If you "show up," do your work and work hard, you'll be fine in this class. There is a lot of homework but it's not too difficult if you put in the time. Bryan was very available outside of class and would answer any questions by email quickly.
Good at helping students understand
He gives such good lectures. There is typically a warm up at the beginning of class, followed by a lecture on new sections. He takes his time, pauses to ask for questions, and does a good job of breaking things down and explaining them. Homework and tests are done on MyOpenMath which I liked, because there are more opportunities for practice.
I took this class in 2020. Tardiff left me with a new perspective and I now love math! This is coming from a HS dropout with straight Fs in math. I highly recommend his class.
Bryan is a great teacher, he is willing to listen to his students and explain how to do math in a simple way. I recommend you to go every class and do all the homework and such or you will fall behind and its very hard to catch up. If you're nervous about math goto his office hours, use you're resources and you will pass!
The lectures were pretty simple but you should still review your textbook and take notes from it. Assignments are easy but the overall grade is based on your final. He's nice about allowing you to use two sheets of paper on the final which is a big plus. Attendance isn't required but if you want to pass the class attend every lecture.
Tardiff relies heavily on textbooks to do the teaching for him, at least for his online classes. He implores you to utilize the math center, your peers, or other resources before coming to him with a question. Very little contact with professor, and the material overall felt diluted with exam questions much more difficult than they needed to be.
Do not take this professor his grading is ridiculous in my opinion.
Bryan is tough, but that made me a better student. Most of what people say is true to a certain degree. However, don't be discouraged. If you have a longer math pathway ahead of you, I recommend him because of his techniques and teaching style. While attendance isn't required, I strongly urge you to not miss any of his lectures.
Final is 50% of your grade so if you are an anxious tester this class is not for you. I HAD 95% He does not teach nor is he a teacher, he expects you to learn from the book or get a tutor. He makes it clear you are only to email through chemeketa not canvas and not a call/text like most professors. Absolutely the WORST professor I have had yet.
Requires photographic memory.. Classload was intimidating; especially coming back to freshman/softmore highschool level algebra after 10 years. Barely made it by completing all class work, but struggled w/final. Also, this math has no real use for my caeer path; and should be brought up with an advisor for anyone not in the STEM fields/pathways.
The coursework felt unnecessarily difficult for the level of math. This professor implores use of tutoring, peers, or online research before coming to him for assistance. I would recommend a different instructor especially for newer students.
I havent rated anyone under a 3 at chem but this instructor was laughably poor at instructing math. I essentially paid chem to teach myself a review on math95. Tells you not to contact him. Exams, an exorbitantly large part of your grade, many questions on exams that felt unrelated to coursework. No passion for teaching. Worst prof I've had so far
Bryan is great, I think he genuinely cares about students and their understanding. I don't agree with a lot of the ratings on here. His tests are made really easy and exactly like the reviews. He does try and get students to find resources outside of him, but that is to help you in the future. He is willing to help you, goto his office hours!
Everything I've ever wanted from a math professor, Bryan is incredibly caring and it shows. His class is very well structured, he makes all the time for his students, and best of all - he is really good at teaching math! Bryan gives a step-by-step solution to everything you learn, and spends the majority of class working through problems. Rockstar
Professor Tardiff's class is challenging, but worth it. His teaching style takes time to get used to, but engage with the material and you'll learn a lot. Unstuckstudy was a game-changer for test prep.
Tardiff is an amazing professor, and can teach math concepts VERY well. The grading structure consists of the lower of either your total grade in the class or your final exam score plus 10%. This can be confusing at first, but as long as you stick with studying for the tests, they're not too hard. 2 bigger assignments mid way through the term.
He is a good teacher but do be wary that he gets a little "trigger happy" jumping from lesson to lesson and goes kind of fast but if you speak up and tell him to slow down he will. In terms of bedside manner, he is really kind and very understanding just make sure to study!
The best teacher without a doubt, explains very well if you have any questions he always explains, offers you other options in case you didn't understand something like video lessons. Available by email, responds quickly. Extra credit if you participate in the forums. I absolutely recommend him.
I took math60 in person with him, and it was my first math class in over 5 years. He was amazing instructor, easy final, and allowed 2 full pages of notes. He was always available to help. I ended up getting an A, I can't recommend him enough!
really helped me when it came to having a better understanding in class and helped me learn so i can be successful in class
Bryan's a great professor! Ive taken 2 of his classes now. No mid term,4 quizzes throughout the term,Final is half your grade, you get 2 pages of notes to bring with you.2-4 hw assignments a week w/20 late passes on hw&quizzes. He does move through lectures quickly, but always asks if there's any questions.if you struggle with math don't miss class!
The website used for homework was confusing at first, it took a week or two to understand. But once I figured it out, I loved using it because it is pretty much impossible to not get 100%. The exam was very different from what we learned though, It was way more difficult than the material we learned.
Great and funny guy. Great at explaining problems
