Bases tests off of lecture so if you skip class, you don't get that info (unless you've got friends). Canceled class 6 or 7 times in the semester; none of the time was he sick and unable to come to class but rather (no joke) he went to a songwriting festival and wanted to spend another day there and wanted to give us more time for our essays.

He teaches an art class for non-art majors but expects his students to treat it as its their favorite subject. So if you are taking his class as a creative art credit and don't have any interest in art like the majority of people that take this class, don't bother.

Not tying to be rude but he tends to come off very pretentious. A lot of discussions. Dropped because I honestly couldnt sit through his lectures.

Content was fun. Take ANY other professor but him. He mocks students who dont share his views on a piece. Has an attendance policy that dropped me from an A to a B due to less than five absences. Has a no technology policy. I cant take handwritten notes, and it made it even harder to prove I was there on the absences. This is a non major class!

This class is intended for non-art majors but Professor Wheeler treats us students like we are art majors. Line, shape, space are some of things we are supposed to point out when analyzing art but all of the art we look at contains those elements in my opinion. Pointless class. I really wish he would stick to basics.

Literally one of the worst teachers I have ever had. Doesn't seem like he cares at all about his students. All he does is talk about himself and thinks everyone should be as invested in art as he is. I had one assignment where I followed all the guidelines and had to end up re doing the entire assignment because it apparently was not good enough.

This class was easy, he is just a HORRIBLE professor. He does not care about his students, as anytime you would email him he does NOT reply. He has this strict step-by-step format for his discussions, and if you do ONE thing wrong, he takes off 20 points for "incorrect submission". The quizzes are easy as they're online. Take a different class.

Worst professor I've ever taken. I've taken TONS of courses with tough professors but never such a self centered proff. This is not a major course yet he treats it like one and expects non-majors to understand and care about art like he does. Don't take this course with him if you're looking for an easy credit course. Many other options to choose.

With it being in online class it was so difficult and this grading is terrible. He does give directions on what he actually wants in papers and will even give you a zero on a assignment you had dont but will argue with you that you didnt. Ive taken lots of tough classes with amazing professors but this wasnt that case this time.

This is the most boring and useless class. You aren't allowed to use a computer to take notes but he expects you to take notes on every word he says. He gave us a full normal workload over thanksgiving break, quiz and all, in addition to a final essay and final exam review that are due within three days of being back from break. I don't recommend.

Super pretentious and self-centered, talks down and uses his own art to explain issues and talks more about himself than actual subject. Final essay assigned and due very close to each other and due two days after Thanksgiving. Attempted to email about review questions and stopped responding to me the two days before. NOT ACCESSIBLE. DONT RECOMMEND

Having class with Bryan Wheeler has been the biggest displeasure that I have ever had. Trust me, I get it, its hard to teach students who only take this class as a prerequisite. But this man cant teach. He is incredibly self centered and uses his own art, does not allow you to use technology for notes, and is so terrible. I could go on for hours.

One of the worst professors at this university. Makes this class unnecessarily difficult for everyone, and is incredibly demanding. Forces everyone to show up to class because he knows everyone hates his class. Super homework heavy, and a very tough grader. Very self centered and just a displeasurable person overall.

I have truly never had a more unbearable learning experience. The quizzes and tests are unpredictable. And he never actually answers questions. I actually did the work for this class and barely ended up with an A. I ended up putting more work into this class than my actual major related courses. It was horrible.

I had to leave class early to go to the hospital and he would not excuse it even though I was there for the first half of class. Was extremely hard and was rude to people who did not care about art appreciation even though it was none of our majors. Worst class I have had

I have never been in a class where the professor is so self-absorbed, he uses his own art as examples in the notes. Attending that hour and 20 minutes "confabs" were completely pointless, I didn't even take notes during those lectures because he would get so off-topic, and it would be a complete waste of paper. If possible, please don't take him.

Bryan Wheeler loves to talk about himself, his art, and his life. The majority of the content of the class as well as prompts on tests and quizzes include what HE thinks of an art piece, not an empirical evaluation of the piece. He takes nearly half a letter grade off your final grade for one absence, and he is very strict with this.

Do NOT take this course. The course itself is relatively simple and easy but you are required to attend lectures that do not actually help you in any way. You lose points off of your final grade for every lecture missed and the lectures themselves are uninforming. everything in the lectures can be found online if this class interests you.

He talks more about himself than teaching you the material needed to understand the class. I typically grasp concepts but he made it almost impossible to want to show up to class at all. I would not take this class unless you have to. Confabs are mandatory.

NO. He is not willing to work with students, and assigns papers that are impossible to finish without hours on top of hours of time and studying. Very in-depth assignments with STRICT requirements that are very hard to reach. Overall the worst class I have ever taken in my entire life and I wouldn't take it again if my degree depended on it.

If you can do not take Wheeler. His class should not be hard, but he likes to believe people are actually majoring in art history and treats it as so. He only showed up to 5 of his lectures and the lectures were extremely boring, his exams are the toughest I took the entire semester, but if you do have to take him, make sure to work ahead.

NEVER TAKE THIS MANS CLASS, for starters he misses more than half the classes we have sceduled but if you miss one he takes it off your final grade at the end of the semester. He is completly self centered and believes he is the most important thing in the universe. He is incredibly narsisstic and makes the class 1000x harder than it needs to be

Pros: - None. Cons: - Absolutely a narcissist. - Harder grading that I have ever had on any project. (I am a working photographer, who payed for college through commercial photography. I barely passed the class from his BS grading.) - The curriculum was 2-3 years out of date because he is too lazy to update Blackboard. Just don't do it.

Tried to fail me by saying I missed a lecture, which will drop you a letter grade, I did not. Told me to join his zoom office hours, he did not show up. Did not respond to emails. I would rather prepare and teach an entire semester long course about how bad this guys teaching philosophy is then take his course again. The most boring course that he doesn't try to make interesting, just punishes you heavily for not showing up to class. Learned absolutely nothing and passed just like he wanted me to I guess.

This professor cares so much about your participation. If you miss classes, it will be a such a big deal for your grade. The grading criteria are not very clear, and the professor is not open and willing to discussing it with students. If you want to get a good grade for your art credits, definitely re-consider taking this class.

I would not recommend to anyone. He takes himself entirely too seriously making the experience horrible. If I were a freshman taking his class, I would immediately hate college. His attitude toward students is unacceptable, and he made going to class a chore. I wish that I did not pay this man to make me miserable.

This guy is full of himself, and his Rate My Professor score speaks for itself. I'm not sure why he chose teaching as a profession if all he cares about is being rude. He literally grades papers harder than an English professor and takes his elective class way too seriously. I wouldn't recommend him—take something else. He's not worth the hassle.

“Does this generation know how to take notes?” As if every other lecture wasn't The Bryan Wheeler Show, talking about his own art and personal stories with little to no relevance to the lecture topic. He was rarely actually on topic and at some point, you need to stick to the point. Final nail in the coffin was a final exam question about himself.

He was very strict professor. Lecture was about an hour and a half long and was very boring not many emotions were shown in the way he would talk which made the class not interesting. Work and everything is basically average pretty easy.

do not take this class, there is a reason that only his sections do not fill up. While he does know a lot about the material he is an extremely harsh grader on certain papers. No reasoning behind this i guess he just has bad days and decides to make them everyone else's problem. but TRUST ME no matter how hard you work you will become victim.

This dude doesn't explain anything to you. He expects you to know everything and explains things in terminology that only HE understands. I took a photo class with him teaching and I have never used a camera before. The rest of the class including me were confused day one because he spoke in a camera like language that only he understands.

These smartbooks have been never an issue until I took this class with him. The class itself is easy if you do the work. But the work takes hours and hours to finish and complete. Smartbooks are 50+ concepts. One is 114. Not possible with the time frames that have been given.

He is very strict on attendance. I was barely able to use the restroom because of the backhanded comments. Even when I was in a near-fatal car crash and emailed him, he thought his class was more important to attend. I was not even in the same town due to the crash. Sometimes funny with descriptions, however, very inconsiderate of students.

I had to take this course as a pre-requisite. I really don't want to bad mouth him, but his class is not for me. First of all, he's only taking 1 class a week this sem. Calls it a hybrid course. But doesn't allow u to use devices in class. Refer to the tags. I hear he's a tough grader as well. Made a very interesting course boring and excruciating

One of the worst Professors I've taken here at Tech. I took him for PHOT 3330 online, and to begin the semester, his syllabus was behind. He didn't list any office hours. He was horrible at answering emails. He was an extremely tough grader who would give minimal feedback on assignments. Do not take him if you want your GPA to be good.

As mentioned in other reviews, Professor Wheeler is a tough grader. Even if you adhere to the guidelines for each assignment, there always seems to be something that prevents you from getting an 'A'. I found it hard to take notes in this class because durning lectures he would talk about personal stories rather than the actual course material.

He is so strict and you will NOT pass if you skip class. and he is a dick tbh.
