Professor Wilbur is fairly nice and easy going, but he is not a very experienced teacher and does not know how to present the material in a managable manner. His tests are mostly based on lecture notes and are fairly difficult. He kind of looks like captain planet though, so that works out.
Prof Wilbur was a pretty good professor. I enjoyed his class very much and his tests r not difficult if you study his lecture notes. He seems pretty clear during his explanations of the material covered and overall is a very easy going guy. take him if u want to get rid of your GEs.
Professor Wilbur is a very cool teacher, he's very helpfull and really funny take him if you want a fun class with an easy going hot teacher
Interesting class... Digresses off topic a lot which can be a relief sometimes when you're just not able to distinguish one rock from another. M/C & fill-in tests, not too bad. Had one field excursion to Eaton Canyon to collect rocks! Better than being in a classroom, right?
Mr. Wilbur is a knowledgeable, fun teacher. He's very enthusiastic about geology which always helps. If you can, take him for a field class - better than a classroom, very layed back, and you get to hunt for fossils! Only a presentation and short paper. Very easy, very fun, definitely recommend Mr. Wilbur!
Most amazing teacher. I highly recomend. so helpful and geology is not exactly is easy so prof. wilbur is really understanding about that plus he is sooo hot...

Brian is an awesome teacher. His class is fun and informative, just take good notes. His tests are fairly easy and the questions are covered in lecture. He gives quizzes every Fri and there's h.w. ever week, just do the work and you'll get a good grade.
By far the best teacher at PCC! He is so helpful and he makes sure that you really understand what he's teaching. Quiz every week, but they're not hard. He's really awesome and his PowerPoints are online. Take him, SERIOUSLY! He made me love Oceanography.
really funny and is really passionate about what he teaches and that makes his students enjoy the subject as well, but his test are really hard!!also you have to memorize 40 minerals..and identify rocks..a lot of labs, a hike to eaton canyon, and he "digresses".. a lot..but overall a fun class. kinda reminds me of ross from friends..
Really nice guy his test are very hard. He keeps you awake and in class for a long time. Study hard on your own.
he was my first college teacher ever. took him last year. guy was awesome. he would pick on me but i would fight back, all in good fun. i honestly thought i had a D in the class but the guy gave me a B. if i actually studied and tried i would have easily gotten an A. guy loves his rocks, tight guy
I hate rocks. I took him because he was an okay professor. Rocks suck...I guess if you like geology you will be happy with him
I took this class in a 6 weeks semester. I thought this class was easy enough. He barely gave homework so this gives you time to study the minerals, rocks, and his lectures. He makes you do an earthquake kit which is an easy A+ that is the same as a test grade. Don't come late to class or you will miss out on the quizzes. He loves UCLA too.
Funny guy,but digresses a lot, especially if you take him during Fall semester since he is a Big Longhorns and Bruins fan. Grades on a curve so if you do well on the quizzes and average on th tests you will pass easily.
You can tell that this guy was a dork when he was a child. However, he is totally cool! he loves rocks and college sports. He seems like a tool though. His class is sooo easy!! the midterm was kinda hard but the final is a breeze. You do not need the book only the lab book. don't buy the book believe me. his tests are based on his lectures.
so cute! i love him! seriously, i wish he didnt have a kid or else i would have totally stole him from his wife. good lectures, good assignments, good lookin teacher! got a D, because i am a bad test taker. weekly quizes, random assignments, 1 presentation, 1 paper, midterm, and a final. now i need some texas bbq, big red, and sonic!
Beware! USC transfer Student! he loves to make fun of USC studnet all the time! he loves UCLA! other than that, he is extremely helpful and clear on his lecture. i never seen someone explains science subject so clear. lots of demonstrations and his life story will be there to make this course easy and even fun! I extremely recommend him! MUST TAKE!
He is a really good teacher. He is really stoked about geology everyday. It's a hard class just cuz it geology, but the days fly by quick. Easy to pass if you try. Just remember to study for his Quizzes, they will help a lot in the end. he is layed back but at the same time doesnt give any slack for late work at all.
Summer session. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! All tests/quizzes are based on lectures. Labs, easy 100%. Mineral presentations&etc are graded easy. Lab book is not needed if you have a friend willing to let you photocopy his/hers. Field trips are fun/ok. Awesome professor though. Wants you to learn. Teaches really well! Great personality! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I surprised when this 6 hour class flew by day in and day out; i found myself laughing my ass off in class while learning a lot of geology and the earth. class is basically lecture, lab (identifying rocks/minerals) Wilbur is an amazing teacher who knows a lot, as long as you pay attention and do your work, you'll get an A. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Summer Session: The six weeks went by really quickly. Lectures aren't that boring because he goes off topic a lot. The field trips weren't that great only because it was in the desert. Overall a really good teacher. Take this class if you need to get rid of your GEs.
Professor Wilbur is amazing! I had him for a 7:25 a.m. class and it was the most interesting class i took that semester. He's extremely helpful and ridiculously adorable. He always goes off on tangents but it's hilarious. i highly recommend him for any class.
Good teacher, great sense of humor and very interesting. All quizzes and tests based on notes only, not textbooks (though he could change that). My only complaint is that he takes it very personally when students don't get straight A's. Geology 1 consists mostly of freshman getting their science requirement and NOT future geologists, after all.
Best teacher ever! Very clear and helpful. I consider myself lucky I have him as a teacher. Geology can be difficult, but it's a great subject! He doesn't use the book though. Take careful notes! Just study hard and you'll pass!
This dude enjoys what he does and makes it fun. His lectures are interesting and funny. He likes to go off topic sometimes but it's all in good fun. I recommend this class for anyone that needs to fulfill a GE requirement. It'll be worth it.
Great Teacher for the Field Trip class. Death Valley 08 =]
Keeps your attention in class, take him. great professor!
I HAVE NO COMPLAINS WHAT SO EVER. JUST STUDY THE MATERIAL AND YOU WILL BE FINE. I THOUGHT THIS CLASS WAS HARD AT FIRST BUT HE MAKES IT SO YOU UNDERSTAND!!! I WILL GO BACK ONE DAY TO THANK HIM! GREAT PROFESSOR. ONE OF THE BEST I HAVE HAD AT PCC.
This teacher taught me ALLOT! He is really enthusiastic and fun. There is a lot of memorization but I did not have to crack the book open at all and I received an A. If you pay attention and take really good notes you will do great in his class.
This is perhaps the worst class I've ever had at PCC. While Wilbur is enthusiastic about geology, it is quite a hard class. If you are not interested in geology, you take this class at your own expense. The exams are pretty hard, except for the final. And this class is extremely boring. Going to this class is an extremely tortuous experience.
this class is hard. (well, i mean it IS geology) if you dont have an interest in geology, dont take this class. If you're trying to finish a GE, don't take this class. (you're better off getting an A in bio or chem or whatever) Although Wilbur is a great professor and overall nice guy, we're looking for an A...not a B or C. you get the idea.
Highly Recommended for Geology Majors. A little bit hard for a beginner, but if you put in sometime, you'd be ok. Note-based course. Textbook helps for overview on Geology. Grades on a curve. Weekly scantran quizes and plenty of labs. Overall understanding professor, but a stickler for attendence. He gets annoyed if he sees a cell phone in class.
Additional info that might help. Professor graduated from UCLA double majored in biology and geology. Obtained his doctorate degree in edu. Professor = Certified Geologist. The expert in the world's oldest fossil...or something like that). That makes him a sedimentary rock expert. Btw don't annoy him with the sight of your cell phone.
LOVE HIM! Just an amazing teacher. Only took this class for GE and glad I took it with him. Got a B without trying but make sure to show up to all classes. Even though he went to UCLA and Texas, he is a great teacher and person to talk to. TAKE HIM!!
One of my favorite teachers at Pasadena. You can't wing the exams. Grades labs mainly on completion. He loves what he does and he's so enthusiastic about it that you can't help but become interested. Plus, he's adorable.
he expects you to know vast amount of knowledge about this class. so if you are a beginner GOOD LUCK! this teacher is a tough one.
Do it! I was regretting having to take geology, but now I want to take more classes! Wilbur is the best at PCC. He loves his job, he loves teaching, his lectures are fun, his tests are straight forward. Study, take notes, be on time and you are golden!
TAKE HIS CLASS! But so you know, attendance is MANDATORY and you must remember everything he teaches. Geology is cumulative and interconnected. Also, don't slack because there's no winging the exams, quizzes or labs. Sounds bad but his personality makes up for it and then some. Highly recommended!!!
REALLY LOVE this professor!
hard hard
the person under me is probably the 'special' student who cant pass pottery 101 or just someone who wants to transfer to USC. This teacher rocks! I was struggling the whole semester, but i didnt quit.i thought for sure i would get either a C or D but got a B. if i had any interest in the subject I would have gotten an A. HOOK EM HORNS
He is extremely helpful. The class was hard for me, but he was lenient because he saw the effort I was putting in. Make sure to attend EVERY class and although he never asks you to read from the textbook, it helps to read. Write down EVERYTHING during the lectures because that's all his exams and quizzes are based on. Projects are fun, he's GREAT!
Very intelligent and helpful teacher. Being Geology, of course its hard but this professor does his best to make it interesting and fun. DONT BUY THE BOOK, just the lab book-just take good notes and you'll be fine. everything on the tests are based on the notes. Make it to class on time and complete all assignments and you'll get a good grade.
very cool teacher
First thing I noticed was his extreme passion for Geology. He knows that most of his students don't find the subject as interesting as he does, but he has his own way of making it seem interesting. Just as you should with every class, pay attention and study, and you will be rewarded with a good grade. PS - I didn't mind his good looks either.
forgot to give him a chili pepper: 3/4 for his passion, 1/4 for his good looks
Bryan has to be the hottest professor ever. His lectures are never boring, and he is always willing to help his students. Textbook use is low, but get it anyway. It really does help.
This guy is AMAZING. Extremely helpful and intelligent! Didn't really have an interest prior to taking this class, now I have a major! He's super attractive, which is a plus! You don't need the book. Take this class!
pretty easy class. show up and write down everything in class. no need for book. never used mine.
Hottest geek I've ever seen in my life!!! its hard to take ur eyes off him!! but he reminds u over and over that he's taken :/ ...you'll actually learn something too, his energy is infectious. every time i'm out walking now i can't stop trying to identify all the rocks along the way. dang!
I've taken Bryan for all of the classes he's teaches for two years straight including several field studies and he is my all time favorite prof. His classes are super easy but you'll learn a lot in them. Highly recommend.
The worst joke of his, is his class. Definitely plays favorites, so get on his good side. Lazy grader, wont get most assignments back till the end of the class. Hypocritically strict. Take Lewis for Geol 1 instead, I hear he's amazing.
about 8 quizzes (around 10q's each, very easy), 2 tests, 1 final, not required to buy the book, 2 projects that are very easy, assignments are very simple. plays favorites, just dont get on his bad side. expected to get a C, got a B. overall a very laidback simple teacher, very passionate about the subject. take good notes and youll do fine
Extremely passionate and enthusiastic about rocks which means if you show him a bit of interest it goes a long way. I wouldn't say he plays favorites but he will be more likely to pass you if you get to know him just a bit. Showing up on time is a must because he gives quizzes as soon as classes start. Pretty funny too! Easy if you pay attention.
Dr. Wilbur is a great professor. His classes are very interesting and informative. Be on time, don't play on your cell phone, pay attention, and you'll do fine. Also, participating in class won't hurt. Even if you don't like science-based classes, you'll enjoy his class.
I took this class a few semesters back and still remember it as one of my favorites. I have no particular interest in science yet I honestly miss Geology and Dr. wilbur. He's such a great professor.. you're missing out if you don't take him.
I had no interest in science at all until I took his class. He is a great prof. He goes over every single details and questions. has a sense of generosity and humor at the same time. tests will be fairly easy if you study because all the questions are straightforward. I ended up with an A. You won't regret
My favorite professor so far, even though I don't love the subject. He's always enthusiastic and you can tell he LOVES geology. He has a great personality! We barelyy ever used the txtbk, (i never read it or brought it to class and still got a B in the class).. Pay attention to his lectures and take good notes to memorize for tests
This is an amazing professor. Every class is seriously up lifting. I ended up loving geology, took another geology class after this one... BORING. so not a geo major, but still reminisce about this class. TAKE HIM
Very interesting class. Time schedule didn't quite work out and we ran out of time to do a lot, but still very informative and interesting. He is very interested in the subject and tells rad stories. Definitely take this class if you get the chance!!
Wilbur made this class enjoyable and interesting. His jokes were actually funny. Don't judge, but that really helped me pay attention. Lectures were clear and organized. Weekly quizzes are really easy if you study. Tests are not that hard, but again you'll need to study. I could have done without licking the halite.. but I recommend this class!
Must attend class to pass! Take great notes, you'll pass the quizes/tests easily. If you got a C or lower, you didn't try. All PCC professors should be like Wilbur. Attractive, SMART, funny, and genuinely caring...yes, being attractive matters! One of the best classes I've taken. Worth it. I miss him!
Dr. Wilbur is AWESOME! Although winter session was very difficult with the long hours, it was a great experience! I learned so much! Just show up and do not slack off! I loved this class!!
He's a very good professor. Anyone who can get me to find an interest in geology is labeled a superb teacher in my book.
Challenging class! Very enthusiastic teacher but runs thru A LOT of info. If ur not a science type of student, this class is tough. Speak up and ask questions. Plays music before every class.Projects include a home science project & a 2 student PowerPoint presentation. Fun class, but hard. Study! Quizzes and tests are challenging.Don't need book.
Professor Wilbur is such an amazing teacher. He is really clear and fun in his techniques. You will look forward to his classes. I promise!
Wilbur is a great teacher! This class is a challenge, but he'll give you everything you need to succeed. He makes himself very available and is patient. DO NOT miss even ONE class though. If you do, be sure to get the notes from someone or meet him for office hours. READ the book. He loves what he teaches and it's contagious! One of the best at PCC!
Although the content and name of this class is interesting DO NOT BE FOOLED! one of the hardest classes at pcc, tests are impossibly hard, takes a while to get to dinosaurs and when u do, he shoves everything the last minute which u have to really memorize and study like learning a foreign language other wise u FAIL,and tests are everything
this class was very difficult!i would study frequently and I even started a study group so that we undertand the material. his responce to 85% of the class failing tests was that we didn't know how to study... I would not recommend him to anyone sorry wilbur your cool but you need to re think your teaching methods!
Wilbur is an awesome professor but his class was super but I mean super. If you have a hard time studying, understanding science and a C student I don't recommend him at all.this class takes alot of dedication for at least a C.His test are way to hard.only recommend him to this who are geniuses!I cried when I failed the class I tried so hard:/
Dr. Wilbur is a kind, knowledgeable, and great man that I truly respect and admire, but, although he is extremely enthusiastic in teaching, he probably doesn't realize his class is too difficult for non-geology major students. Be prepared, don't ever think that you can pass his class easily.
Honestly wasn't interested in Geology prior to taking the class. Only took it to fulfill a requirement. However, after taking his class, I discovered there is much more to Geology than just looking at rocks. He's the type of professor that will keep you engaged and interested in the subject. Tests aren't easy, but this is college folks.
Currently taking Wilbur. Really really hard exams. Says he doesn't expect you to be a geologist, but that's a lie. I wouldn't recommend this class to non geology majors. He's nice as a person, but extremely demanding and hard as a professor. If you're a geo major then take him, you will love him.
Demanding class with impossible tests. Doesn't use the book, and when you ask about something you've read in it, he brushes it off as wrong. Rushes you out of his office when you have questions. Don't take him if you are a non-science major.
I thoroughly enjoyed Professor Wilbur's class. Yes his class is not the easiest and you actually have to use your brain, but you can tell he really loves what he teaches and if you take notes, read the book and listen to what he is saying you will do well. This is college not pre-school you have to do the work.
He is a really funny guy. He makes you interested in the subject even if you didn't really want to take it before. It is a pretty challenging class but if you study, go to class, and pay attention it's not impossible to pass.
Really great professor! Wasn't interested in the topic before but after taking his History of Life class, I learned many new things! He keeps you interested in whatever he teaches! He is a very awesome, funny, and down to earth Professor! I would definitely take him again!
Bryan is one of the coolest dudes around. You should take him.
Bryan Wilbur was one of the coolest professors I've ever taken. He is really into what he teaches, which he passes on to his students. I took the age of dinosaurs class with no prior knowledge of anything about dinosaurs and ended up learning a lot. Attendance is a must and the exams are a little tough, but if you study you'll be fine. Take him.
Best professor I've ever had! I don't like Geology but he makes it so interesting. He teaches really, really well and makes sure you understand the lessons. His quizzes are based on his lectures (easy, 7-10 items) and his exams are not that hard. There is a lot of material to cover, and the rock and mineral exams. But he'll get you through it!
He's an awesome professor, definitely cares about actually teaching you something unlike other professors! Just pay attention, take notes and you'll get a passing grade!
Professor Wilbur is a really great lecturer. He makes the material easy to understand and explains even the most difficult concepts with ease. He comes across as a little bit cocky, but I don't think that he is. Not much homework and never used the book. Study the notes and you will get A's on the tests.
Wilbur is very kind and helpful. He wants everyone to do well. He really tries hard to make sure everyone understands and that his lectures are clear. He's very fair and the tests aren't too hard. He's pretty handsome too. And he's the king of dad jokes. I would recommend. But he's serious about attendance. Once he yelled at me a little (in private
If you aren't really interested in dinosaurs don't take this class. He assumes everyone in the class knows everything about them. Basically the first part of the semester is learning geology stuff and the second part is phylogenetic systematics and dinosaurs are all rushed in the end. Don't take this class. Unless it's with a different professor.
Very funny and intelligent! Cute too!
One of the BEST professors I ever had! His lectures are interesting and fun. He really goes over the material thoroughly, cares about your grades and always answers questions, making sure everybody gets it. Definitely would suggest taking this class. Don't believe the bad ratings. They're probably students expecting an easy A in every class!
Very cheerful teacher who's passionate about his work. Loves thoughtful discussions and answering questions. Assigns txtbk reading for reference but not required; exams (2 + final) are all based on lectures. Very considerate of student feedback and may curve grades accordingly. You will learn a lot.
Take his class, if you really are interested and not just for the credit. One of the coolest and best professors I've had at PCC. His Class was also very entertaining and chill. I would of finished with an A but I slacked off near the end and ended up with a B+.
Amazing professor. Glad I had him as my professor for a 7 am class. He's very passionate about the subject. His exams and quizzes are fair. He will tell you when they are and help you prepare for them. He keeps online grades updated and is always there during office hours. One of the best trustworthy professors out there.
College professors should be in love with the subject they're teaching. Wilbur's love for Geology is eclipsed only by his love for teaching it. Extraordinarily relatable to students, challenging but fair and a genuine model ambassador for the science. Professors like Dr Wilbur are rare and inspiring.
Bryan Wilbur is an extraordinary teacher. He loves the subject so much & teaches it so well that anyone can understand it with ease. I would love to take his class again - he is by far one of my all time favorite professors. He also gives quizzes/tests based solely on lecture so no textbook purchase is necessary. Seriously, take his class.
Amazing professor! Really energetic and funny. His lectures can be long, but he keeps the energy up. Take this professor!
Amazing, inspirational, incredibly passionate. And very knowledgable. Participate in class, he;ll love that. Don't talk politics with him though haha
Excellent teacher. One of the best I've had at PCC. Made waking up at 7am worth it and showed up to every class. Enthusiastic, kind, and extremely intelligent. I didn't even like geology and he made me respect and enjoy it. Has amazing field trips planned, lectures are thorough and teach a lot, labs are great prep for exam. Thanks Prof.
Professor Wilbur is by far the best professor I've ever had, he's so unbelievably passionate about Geology that he makes the class fun and never boring whatsoever. He has definitely made me fall in love with Geology, now my major. Thanks Professor! I hope I get to take another class with you!
He is a fair, helpful, honest Professor. I hated Geology and was very scared about taking this class. He want you to succeed !!!! If you hate geology but have to take the class for a science requirement you should take him. He makes the class fun and goes over what is on the test before you take the test to better help you. He is a Rockstar!!!!!!!!
Great lectures, fair grader, you get what you give in his classes.
First and foremost: DO NOT skip/miss/find an excuse to miss class - you will not pass. Secondarily, there are 6 exams, (final included) two field trips, and a final project. You'll be given two exams during the first half of the semester and 4 during the latter. DO well on the first two as they are essentially "gimmes." The last 4 exams are brutal
I took his Geo 12 class, if you don't have any interest in geology but need this class take him he makes all his lectures very interesting, he's extremely passionate about the subject which reflect in his lectures. If you do well on the exams, and turn in assignments which are very clear you'll do great ! Plus he' nice too look at lol
Probably the best professor I have ever had! So caring and passionate about geology and makes you excited to learn about it. If you take notes you will be fine on tests. Nothing was ever really hard if you pay attention. Attendance and tardies are really important to him though, so don't skip much! You don't need the book. Lectures cover it all.
First 2 exams are easy. The rest you have to study, but don't worry. What he writes on board and the words out of his mouth is what is generally on the tests. It comes down to if you studied your notes or not. Nobody has mentioned it but his Rock exam is probably his hardest test. Study up on that one and you should be good. VERY PASSIONATE GUY!
Makes a lot of dad puns/jokes that might infect 1/4 of the class. Take good notes; uploaded slides - sparse and some detailed figures on slides are unreadable. Very enjoyable classes that gets students discussing, so topics tend to be rushed at the end of the semester. He's very energetic and motivated about lots of topics. Die-hard UCLA alumnus
A truly amaizng professor! He makes fun interesting, interactive, and fun! It was an amazing experienc. As long as you go to class, takes good notes and review you will pass with no problem, he doesnt trick you. Take any class with him... seriously
Wilbur has automatically became one of my favorite teachers I've ever had. He is a very respectful and engaging teacher and made the most effort to make the class as interesting as possible. Is a very visual teacher and makes sure to explain lectures in a clear and detailed manner. 5 Tests, Research Paper. Show up in class and work and you'll be ok
I Love this class. He has helped my decide my major because of it. He's very knowledgeable, accessible and helpful in class. If you pay attention in class and take notes you will be fine. Class consisted of 6 Exams, 2 on minerals/rocks, and a museum project, and a final project that wasn't to tough. Easily recommend this class if you are interested
Wilbur is a good teacher and an overall nice guy. Although attendance does not count towards your grade, you really need to show up to class. His tests come straight from his lecture and even missing one day can mess you up. That being said, his tests are pretty straightforward. I would recommend taking his class regardless of your major.
You are missing out by not taking him. A lot is covered in class so try not to skip. Welcoming atmosphere and class is NEVER boring. Clear rubric of how the semester will go and notifies you if something changes. Office hours available if you need it. One of the best professors I have ever taken and tells cheesy jokes that make him funny.
Professor Wilbur is a great professor it is clear who succeeds and does not succeed in his class. Either you study and pass with B or higher or you dont and suffer throughout the semester. He is a nice and understanding professor and he really does respect his profession. If you come in there the first day ready to learn you should have no problem
Dr. Wilbur is super passionate and a very personable lecturer. He goes out of his way to learn everyone's names and encourages participation and hands-on learning. No cumulative test! Very generous grader; gives partial credit and can debate for points back on an exam if an answer was questionable. Lots of field trips and lab time and office hours.
He is a great professor. He does his best to keep the class engaged(even though some material is boring). Grading criteria is clear, so are the exams given. He covers a lot of material and missing just one lecture may have the high possibility of setting you back so don't miss! Besides that he is always available and is ready to help if you need it
Professor Wilbur is so passionate about his job and super knowledgeable on geology. The lectures were so funny and easy to understand. He graded based on five exams, few projects and no homework. The textbooks are not really needed. Two filed trips, but really fun and worth the time to go!
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR & TAKE ONE OF HIS CLASSES! By far the best professor I have ever met. Dr. Wilbur is extremely passionate and knowledgeable about Geology, and his love for the subject is definitely contagious. Class consisted of 4 tests (including the final), and they are all based on his lectures. Allowed a sheet of notes for the last 2 exams.
What a great professor! Took him for Geology 1 as my science with a lab requirement, and his class was great. A lot of his reviews say he is passionate, and that is 100% true. His lectures are engaging, he is funny, and seems like a great person outside of class. I would say the hardest part of his class is lab exams, so make sure to study!
Ive had this prof for two 7am classes so far, and even as a strictly non-morning person at 7am they have been my favorite classes. He very clearly LOVES his job. He is excited about the material he is teaching and eager to answer questions and discuss the topic with the class. He makes his lectures fun to listen to and easily digestible.
Perhaps one of the most influential professors PCC has got going for them. Pros: He is knowledgeable, is funny, no textbook, is devoted to his craft & offers online office hours. Cons: He digresses & the few times I ever had questions it was often interrupted by other students so take advantage of OL office hours. Oh, & he's a Red Sox fan. Big Con!
Dr. Wilbur takes his job very seriously but is in love with Geology. Pay attention in his class and you will pass easily. He tries to give a good balance of Lecture and Lab so you will not get burnt out but do not plan on missing much class. They are important. I got an A and did not open my textbook once.
Dr. Wilbur is by far one of my favorite professors at PCC. His lectures are organized, and he's very lively and passionate about geology. He understands that not everyone is a Geology major, so he makes sure to thoroughly explain certain terms. Tests are easy if you study and take good notes on his powerpoints.
I didn't give much thought to ALL the positive reviews and wanted to see for myself. This guy really cares about the topic he's teaching. He feels like the Bill Nye of Geology. I'm in the winter session. It's a 7am class that is 4 hours long but it goes by in a breeze. The content you learn is from lecture but is supplemented by the book. Take him!
What a gem. Even though i am not a huge fan of geology, he made the class so memorable. Hes very passionate about geology and will always try to make sure that we all understand the concepts. There are 6 exams, 4 lectures and 2 labs. The 4th lecture exam and the rock exam is the hardest IMO, so be sure to study. Take notes of lecture. Take him!
Dr Wilbur is by far the best and the most humorou professor I ever have had at PCC, I truly wish PCC can afford to get professors as good as him. Not only he loves teaching but also makes the whole class very engaging. It was a 7am class and that's the only 7am class I have taken. I never liked GEO but he made me gain interest in GEO.
Dr Wilbur is truly one of the best profs Ive ever had. He's super passionate, and actually cares about your quality of learning. There's no homework so there is ABSOLUTELY NO room to slack off. DONT SKIP CLASS. Tests are based entirely off lectures so take clear notes! Material is very dense, but if you ask questions and study hard you'll be fine.
Dr. Wilbur is the best professor I have ever had. He is extremely knowledgeable about Geo, and he loves his family, UCLA, Geo, BBQ, and a fair share of Texas tunes. He can talk about anything, and it's helpful because geo usually is boring, but he has so much enthusiasm for the subject it always kept me engaged. You can't do better than Wilbur.
My absolute favorite professor of all time! He makes his lectures very enjoyable and engaging. He is very funny and chill. I loved the field trips we went on and the tests are not hard if you take good notes and study before the exams. No need for textbook. Took during winter for 6 weeks, 4 hours starting at 7am. I would do it all again if I could!
You NEED Dr. Wilbur in your life. He respects his students, never misses class, sets you up for success as long as you attend class and pay attention. His lectures always turn into VERY interesting discussions, and he will support his students to the ends of the earth. Most amazing professor I've ever had.
If you have no interest in Geology, I promise you by the end of Prof. Wilburs geology course, youll love rocks. With a professor who shows such professionalism and as well as compassion, itll feel like everyone in class is family. Labs and exams may seem tough, but studying should land you the grade youre looking for. The best choice for GEO1.
Amazing and fun lecturer, very evident that he truly cares about the topic. You won't be bored here. There are no tedious assignments or "busy work," the few homework he gives will help you better your understanding and is a little preview of future exams. If you watch all the lectures and take detailed notes, exams will be easy and kind of fun.
I took Professor Wilbur for two seperate classes during the Spring 2021 online term. I would say he was the best professor I've had at PCC. He loves the material, and wants you to love it to. Go to office hours and chat! He's fun Be warned that there is no extra credit in his classes, and he accepts late work for only 24 hours after at 1/2 credit
His lectures are very interesting and fun. Funny professor. His class is not hard as long as you do your work and study.
First off he is the first Professor Ive had at PCC that is horrible. Be prepared to take SIX exams, with NO EXTRA CREDIT. I took one exam and I was at a 98 then went down to a 73! Expected everyone to get his material in a 4 hr lecture, impossible. I do not recommend, save your grade and time!!
DON'T take professor Wilbur if you're not interested in Geology and expect an Easy A. This class was not the easiest, but exams were OPEN NOTES. Lectures were always recorded/easily accessible to students to view as many times as they want to study. His lectures were long due to the pandemic, but he is literally one of the best professors I've had
His class is 95% lecture based and exam heavy. The hardest part is listening to multiple hours of lecture each class period on Zoom which despite his best efforts at humor and love of Geology was not engaging. Might be good in person but I would opt for another GE course.
Dr. Wilbur is one of my favorite professors i have ever taken at PCC! He is challenging but really passionate about what he teaches and amazing at making anything understandable and do-able, he also will be more than happy to answer questions. I absolutely loved his class, i am not a STEM major but his enthusiasm was infectious.
Professor Wilbur made my Physical Geology class a class I could enjoy. Youd expect learning about rocks and minerals to be boring and yet Professor Wilbur made it enjoyable and easy to learn. The class itself is somewhat difficult since it was in a online setting but I believe if you take this class in person it should be way easier.
Professor Wilbur is literally the best teacher ever! He's really kind with grading and care about his students. If you don't understand something just ask him. There are a few lab assignments and some quizzes, but you have to do good on the exam. Exam questions are based on the lecture so take notes! Lecture is fun and recorded! Recommended!!!
Very interesting class even if you are not interested in geology at all. Pretty much no homework either, very great lectures, and the first class that I genuinely didnt want to end.
Everyone could use a Professor Wilbur in their life. His enthusiasm for the subject is infectious, he makes everything in class relatable so you're not just learning about abstract things, he's a fair grader, and is super approachable and down to earth. If you know, you know. Don't leave PCC without taking his class!
He is a good Geology professor for GE credit and his identification of rocks and minerals was good, but it was difficult to identify which rocks and minerals are which, so I ended up getting a D in his class. Despite that, I still recommend other students to take his geology class.
My favorite professor I've ever had at PCC. Seriously, take any classes of his if you can. He was incredibly understanding about my personal situations and is really passionate about what he teaches. No lectures were ever boring and I always looked forward to his classes. Just make sure to study hard for exams, as what he says will be on them WILL.
I think taking Professor Wilbur's course was one of the best experiences in my recent academic career. He teaches lectures in a fun and engaging way. I cannot recommend him enough as he tries to connect with the students and not just talk at you for the duration of the lecture.
What can I say about professor Wilbur that hasn't already been said. HE IS AMAZING!!! I never thought I would care about geology but he makes you love the course. He is so passionate and caring towards his students. STUDY YOUR IN CLASS NOTES. That is all you need, no books. I wish I could come back just to take him again. He's also very handsome.
By far my favorite Prof. He really loves what he does & his passion & enthusiasm for the topic really shows. Be present for lectures, study for exams!, he grades fairly, no textbook, little hw, has reg office hours but might not see your email, one group proj/presentation. Couldn't recommend his field classes enough. Get ready for some dad jokes
If you take notes, pay attention, and DO the readings, you will pass with an A. I slacked on the readings and got a B. My only B in Community College. Dr. Wilbur is an amazing professor. I still got into his Alma Mater (UCLA) with flying colors. I'll always remember and regard him as one of my best professors.
Dr.Wilbur was such a delight to be taught by. You will leave with the overwhelming urge to accidentally get an associates in geology. I highly recommend him. His lectures caused me to be so interested in geology and that is a difficult subject to get interested in. Passion is this man's middle name.
The reviews did not lie about this professor: one of the best. Took him for Oceanography knowing nothing. If you want to pass, just pay attention, take notes, and follow his review and advice! Make sure to put in the time to study because he is very nice with his grading and tests. You won't regret taking him, would take him again for fun honestly!
Prof Wilbur's energy wakes you up, fav prof I've had, funny stories. Tests are not easy, & you have to STUDY, the rock/mineral exams r tough. the info is interesting & he uses lots of metaphors/examples to get the idea across. DO NOT miss a lecture, because his slides will not help. labs are fun too. take him, if you want a good Prof who cares.
Professor Wilbur is one of the best professors I've ever had! He's really funny and truly shows that he's passionate about what he teaches. His lectures were always so interesting and engaging, I definitely learned a lot from his class. The exams were kind of difficult so really take your time when studying the material. Definitely take his class!
Least favorite science class ever. Beyond boring lectures. Doesn't reply to Canvas messages. Not at all empathetic if you're out sick with Covid. Doesn't allow retakes of tests even if you miss announcement of test and material.Talks to others WHILE STUDENTS ARE TRYING TO FINISH A TEST! Then says "sorry I should talk quieter." Pick someone else!
Slackers beware: no extra credit/late work, 6 tests, & you're dropped after 4 absences. Exams were usually on Monday w/ exam reviews the Wednesday before, so I recommend making flashcards of everything from reviews and spending the weekend studying until memorized. This subject can get tearfully boring, but he was a funny guy who often saved it!
He's probably one of the best professors that I ever came across. He makes the concept Geology so interesting with his lectures. I'm not a morning person, but it's worth going to his 7AM class. Attendance is honestly mandatory b/c the slides don't really explain a lot. As long as you study the concept and material, you should be good to go.
Professor Wilbur truly cares about all his students and expects the best from them. Don't be intimidated by the material if it's new, he makes it very approachable. He also has unique insights on the education system and is clearly passionate not only about geology but about teaching as well, which cannot be said of every teacher!
You have to guess what is going to be on the tests and the labs are guessing what the rocks are. Guessing is a common theme at PCC.
I'm surprised to see negative comments about Dr. Wilbur because he is AMAZING! He is caring & understanding. If you aren't a STEM major, I would recommend you GO TO OFFICE HOURS. The class can be a bit confusing however if you find good lab mates, take notes, and go to office hours you should be solid. This class is NOT an Easy A, but it is fun!
I wish I could have Wilbur for every class. So funny and caring about his students. I love when my professors are passionate about what they teach, and boy does this man love rocks. Definitely not an easy A class, expected to come to class and study. He never made me feel stupid for asking a question or to repeat something.
Lectures are mandatory to prepare for tests, which are very comprehensive. You'll also be doing labs with the people you sit with for the entire semester, so choose your group wisely. Geology is by no means an easy science, but Dr. Wilbur's dedication to his students made it a whole heap better. Truly a phenomenal professor and a blessing to PCC!
Worst professor ever
Dr. Wilbur is passionate about geology and his enthusiasm makes the class a lot more fun. He organizes concepts nicely so that they hang together in a coherent context.
His class is fairly test heavy, but prior to all exams he goes through a detailed exam review. If you pay attention and study just a little his class is quite easy to pass. No busy work, and is understanding of personal class conflicts if he sees your putting effort into the class
Great and amazing professor. The class was educational but also super fun, I had a great time taking the class and I'd love to take it again. You also get a field trip to Eaton Canyon or an alt assignment.
Super fun and loves to teach!!
If awesome is a person, Wilbur is the guy! I'm not a geology or science major, but I couldn't resist taking two of his classes because of the fun lectures and adventures. You learn a lot in his classes but he explains everything well and gives you plenty of practice. Put in good honest work and you'll be rewarded. Most caring and fun professor!
Professor Wilbur is passionate about geology and makes the material engaging. While not an easy A, attending class and using resources like Unstuckstudy can help you succeed.
Absolutely loved Wilbur's class and changed my major after this class. His classes are very lecture heavy so you have to pay attention, but he always does a quite in-depth lecture review right before exams. Other than prepping for exams there is little homework outside of class other than finishing labs you may not have completed in class.
Dr. Wilbur is an incredible professor and is very passionate about the field of Geology. If you pay attention and take notes his exams are a breeze. However, Wilbur does not give a lot of homework and therefore his tests weigh “heavier” on your grade! He is very helpful and if you apply yourself you are guaranteed success. Such a fun class!
Professor Wilbur is passionate about his work and truly cares about his students. Pay attention, observe the rocks and study well and you'll do fine.
Dr. Wilbur is an amazing professor who made waking up at 6 AM for lecture worthwhile. So long as you're present in class and allocate enough time to study, you should totally be able to pass the class.
Oh man this class cooked me. It is so lecture heavy. Tests are really hard it requires a lot of studying. No study guide. Lots of memorization needed. Vague. It was suprising to see such positive ratings since through out the whole semester, people are constantly dropping out due to the difficulty of this class. don't take good luck
Wilbur is a nice guy, however this class is extremely lecture heavy & very boring. He does not reply to emails & does not spend much time on a lesson. He goes over things very quickly & in the middle of the lesson will start rambling about something unrelated for a while. Tests are very difficult & based on memorization. Not an easy class.
Professor Wilbur has been one of the best professors I have taken here at PCC! His lectures are pretty heavy but he makes sure we understand it & always helps if we have any questions. He also goes over the study guide the day before the exam and the day of to see if we have any questions! Overall, I had a great and fun class experience! Take him!!
You'd be hard pressed to find anyone else that is not only more knowledgeable, but also passionate and enthusiastic about geology, natural sciences, and teaching in general. One of, if not the best, professors I have ever had the privilege of studying under.
Professor Wilbur really goes out of his way to make class enjoyable. Your grade will only consist of exam grades. Not many homework assignments so if you do not do well on tests, I would consider studying extra for his class. He made the material being taught very clear and detailed, overall great professor.
Dr. Wilbur is honestly the best professor ive ever had. He truly cares about his students and loves what he does. Lectures are VERY important so dont miss class. No homework, just labs (very easy). Exams are a big chunk of your grade so study! Maybe I just had a talkative class but he loves feedback and jokes. He's an amazing person,TAKE HIS CLASS!
Dr. Wilbur is THE best professor at PCC! For this class specifically, you are graded on a few things. In this class, you will learn that you eat Dinosaurs every Thanksgiving. Also, if you plan to go to office hours, email him ahead of time and let him know, because if no one shows up, after a good 30 minutes, he might go for a run!
super intellectual dude. i personally loved the tangents, was a breather in between heavy lectures. pick his brain, he genuinely knows everything and has opinions about a lot. class itself was semi-difficult, easier than something like chem 001 but easily more difficult than bio 011. i'm not the biggest stem person (pre-law) and I managed so!
Dr. Wilbur is excellent! I took his oceanography course and I had a blast. His lectures are fun and engaging and he genuinely cares about his students. As long as you're attending class, taking notes, and studying, you're going to do great. He also kind of reminds me of Jimmy Stewart lol
Professor Wilbur is great, I would take him again if I could. He gives great lectures and has a good sense of humor!
He's funny and relatable but really strict on grading, he also won't explain the assignments properly.
Knows geology and is passionate, but the class is extremely rigid. Long lectures, then labs assigned at the end with little time, and you're expected to finish later in the Geosciences room. Labs are high-stakes with a tiny late window and permanent zeros, so one bad week can tank your grade. If you have a life outside school take another professor.
Like everyone said, he's good and a really funny person to socialize with but apart from that, he's a really annoying grader. He cannot take constructive criticism and assumes everyone is into rocks like he is. The last month is a nightmare with 4 exams that will break your grade.
He expects you to memorize each and every rock that he goes over in a few minutes, I would not recommend him.
He had an overall interesting class, and surprisingly made oceanography more riveting than I had expected, and that is in part due to his humorous, witty personality when lecturing. His grading was rigid, and the exams are lecture based, but as long as you show up and pay attention, its fine. His explanations were attractive, so that helps!
Very cool guy, loves his job and he talks for days which help the three hours fly by! Don't recommend missing a single class because there's always very dense information in his lectures that you just have to hear in person because the PowerPoint won't help much. Labs are pretty much the only homework so just make sure you get those done!
Very unfair for him to throw all the tests at us all at once.
Very nice teacher, really came in clutch for me at the beginning of the semester when I had to switch over to his other class. Class is easy if you just focus a bit, only thing I didn't really like was he gave up at the end with us and stopped posting lectures and drowned us with exams but if you put in maybe two hours a week into the class ur set.
If you're like me and have a visual impairment, just don't bother. He never responds to any of my emails asking for accommodations or even reviewing what those accommodations are. He said in person he'd be forgiving of late penalties since it takes me longer to read, but in fact just blew me off. Real shame too, love the coursework.
I don't really write reviews on here, but this class was very fun and not at all what I expected in the most positive way. Professor Wilbur gives great lectures and makes learning geology something to look forward to. Assignments/exams weren't anything too difficult. I'd recommend taking his class, def inspired me to consider pursuing Geology.
Professor Wilbur's course was easy to follow, he gives lectures that are beyond phenomenal and when it's time for tests, he gives you a heads up as to what to study! Lectures are the main focus of this class and you should attend nearly all if you want a shot to get an A. He is a professor who is funny and relatable! Be warned of the Jazz! jk :)
