Incredibly easy course, but surprisingly, I learned quite a bit. Take it if you need an easy A for an Arts/Hums requirement.

A total nightmare. All he does is rant and rave and tell you what a moron you--the class--are and what a genius he is. He can go on and on about the stupidest things. The class is horrible and a lot of people can't stand him. It sucks big time.
I was pleased with this course. To be honest, Bryan tries to get his students to stimulate their brains. He does not give out an A if it is not earned, if you come to class and do the work, you'll pass. He was great!
He is like my dad. Taught me all I need to know about being a devient. Thankx Brian.
Bryan knows how to stir the pot. He says controversial things in class, but his comments have merit and are good examples of sociology at work. If you put forth the effort, you will be fine no matter how bad you pull a tank job on a test or two.
*shudders in terror* That man is in my nightmares and makes my skin crawl.
The only thing i can say about this teacher is that he is arrogant and act likes he knows all things. If you ask a question that he thinks you should already know, he basically treats you like you are stupid. He never wants to admit that he is wrong. Tests are so hard and the assignments are dumb.
This teacher isn't for everyone. You have to be thick-skinned at the beginning; the class seems like it will be really hard at first. You MUST pay attention to details and do what he assigns. If you do, the class gets easy; if you don't, it's torture. Don't take him online. His outside influences are reflected in his teaching.
THIS MAN MAKES ME SICK. EVERYTIME I HEAR HIS NAME I FEEL LIKE BLOWING CHUNKS. HE THINKS HE IS GOD. HE IS NOT CLEAR ON ANYTHING AND ACTS LIKE YOU ARE STUPID IF YOU QUESTION HIS AUTHORITY. I WANTED TO DROP HIS CLASS AT LEAST 100 TIMES. ALTHOUGH IT IS FUN TO ARGUE WITH HIM CAUSE HE GETS SO MAD.
There is a fine line between arrogance and self-confidence. I think with this professor it sometimes blurs...however I think he demands introspection in his students, which causes discomfort among some. I have gotten the impression he doesn't expect you to agree with him...rather think about why you feel the way you do. Glad to of taken him.
He confuses students by placing too many demands in too many places. I took him online and, although he demanded what he wanted, it was hard to remember because it wasn't in a common spot (ie: the syllabus); and he's strict! If your papers aren't perfect, he deducts major points. Don't take his class!
THE ONLY THING I COULD SAY IS RUN IF YOU SEE HIM COMING.
This guy was great and if he hurt your feelings, tough. He's not there to placate your ego. He also never tried to make anyone in my class feel stupid.
I thought it was a fun class and I did learn a lot. He did help me to learn a lot. He was kind of rude to some of his students though.
After reading through the comments on him I was pretty scared to take his class, but actually I enjoyed it. I learned a lot and found it quite profitable. I'm sure that he could be rude to some of his students, but he wasn't rude to me so I can't say I can relate. He was extremely helpful and kind. His assignments were sometimes difficult.
He admitted to his campus class that he makes internet classes harder since they won't take the time to come to his class! I would never take him again, especially internet! He's very rude and arrogant and his emails are so degrading.

Proud, arrogant, disrespectful, politically correct, policed what we were permitted to say. His class documents were full of errors, yet he constantly berated students for not making online posts in perfect grammatical form. Content and form of online class was excellent, but as a person he lacks maturity.

If you get "Bryan" on your schedule RUN LIKE A LUNATIC!! I NEVER EVER EVER WANT TO SEE THIS FREAK AGAIN! HE IS THE WORST PROF I HAVE EVER MET! TEST were so hard but never truly explained! Papers were not explained well either. He grades on his opinon and not facts! If you're not a democract then you might as well forget it! He sucks big time!!!!!!!
i busted my ass to get a C in bryans class. let me just say that he is a tough tough professor, his exams are nearly impossible. you have to write 4 papers and they were really easy..attendance and papers were the main reason why i passed the class. i failed every test..the tests were ridiculous. if u are lazy DONT take his class cause youll fail
Williamson is a highly effective instructor who knows the material very well, communicates it effectively, and makes class interesting. All of the naysayers here are intellectually mediocre crybabies who are mad because they are either too stupid to succeed at rudimentary sociology or Williamson hurt their sensitive feelings (perhaps both).
I had no problem with Bryan until about the last week of school. I asked him a question and his response was extremely degrading. Basically if you do your work and keep your mouth shut, you'll be fine. Also, not for hardcore republicans. Or anyone who hates communists.
Mr. excuse me-Dr. Williamson, as he requested, was rude and arogant. He lacks compassion and consideration. Any communication made me feel like I did not deserve his attention. He was only concerned with comments that fed his ego.
He only asks questions that he can answer. If you attempt to, you will be wrong and he will be right-every time. He spends alot of time justifying his "rants" and not much time in the book. Tests are impossible. Again, question the answers and you will always be wrong. Some like him, most don't. Very berating!!
He is by far the worst teacher I have ever come across. Tests are open book and they are still IMPOSSIBLE to get a decent grade on them no matter how hard you study. I got an A in Anatomy and Physiology but I got a C in this guys class. Not to mention, he is EXTREMELY dreadful in person and online. I would never recommend him to anyone.
Williamson is not pleasant...at all...not in the classroom and not out of it. He's a real jerk. However, if you do your work, you should do okay in his class. But, don't show up late...because he will make a scene for you.
Bryan is hard to understand at frist but if you have an open mind and are up to a challenge then take his class. At the beginning of the semester I wanted to drop his class but I stuck through it and was very challenged. I enjoyed his class and the challenge that he provides. Most people don't understand him.
I didnt like him at all. I got an A in Anatomy & Phys I/II but got a C in his class. I was a straight A student my entire life & his class was my first & only C. He makes you feel worthless & has no problem embarrassing you in front of the class. Has a weird sense of humor & exams are tough/papers are graded tough. Avoid him if u wanna keep GPA up!
Tests are all open book, including the final. Never had to read any chapters, most of everything is presented in the power points, which are posted on angel. Assignments are simple, just watch your spelling/grammar. Attendance matters and turning assignments in on time. There is one research paper with a choice of two topics.
unfriendly, always has to be correct even when wrong, self absorbed, likes to play games to see what kind of reaction he will get then applies it to his theory
I'll be as unbiased as possible. Bryan is to the pt, fun, sarcastic, extremely honest. Hard to understand at first. Challenging. He gives a lot of extra credit. This is a very abstract class you have to keep an open mind. If you don't have a good sense of humor this class isn't for u I learned a lot in this class & it ended up being my favorite.
What a jerk. Not only cost me a letter grade due to his inability to communicate requirements but demeaning and nasty when I pointed out that his written requirements did not state what he was implying and knocked my class grade from an A to a B for. Unless you like to be treated like an incompetent two year old - don't take him!
I took Mr. Williamson's class just to fill in credit requirements, but ended up really enjoying it more than I thought I would. He's a bit sarcastic, has a good sense of humor, and is willing to do whatever he can to help IF YOU FOLLOW DIRECTIONS AND HELP YOURSELF TOO. If I had to take it again, I'd pick Mr. Williamson definitely.Just be prepared!
Overall through distance learning the class involved a lot of reading and make sure you keep your dates straight. Overall not the worst professor I have ever had but surly not the best.
enjoys demeaning a individual for his own simple amusement , will give an assignment and tell you was done wrong, very hard to obtain a straight answer from
To take Williamson's class you have to be very think outside the box. He is a lot of times not crystal clear but he gives you lots of extra credit and is a fair grader. He believe what he teaches and makes you think like no other teacher, he challenges you and motivates you. If you show interest he will be very willing to help. I learned a lot.
His instructions are nebulous, at best. When approached to clarify them, he was completely demeaning and borderline abusive. I dropped his class like a hot potato the first week and switched to another instructor. There was no way I was going to submit to his particular brand of BS. This instructor gets an F minus from me.
The only instructor I have never liked or respected.Extremely arrogant and treats students like rats in his own sick, private lab experiment. Take him and see for yourself. I dare you.
This professor is boldly arrogant and obtuse. I would not recommend taking his classes unless you are critically lame in personality and Marxist fan.
This class is fine if you do the work and study for the tests. He does challenge his students. I thought the class was very interesting.
He kept things interesting. Very entertaining.
He's awesome, funny, help student learn alot. I had no idea about what i studied but i never miss class, only got B for exams and a D for final, but some extra credit helped me got an A.
I did not like the online class. He seemed arrogant in emails. Not a good Intro to Socy to detailed to just fill my socy req.
Excellent teacher. Students need to go to class, pay attention and read the book.I do not find him arrogant at all-just very passionate about what he does. All tests are given online, offers alot of extra credit.
come to class all test online very laid back i would take another one of his classes
Hes a TERRIBLE teacher!! I highly DO NOT recommend him!! If you want to keep your GPA up, do NOT take his class.
This professor is an awful teacher he expected us to know what he was talking about and NEVER clarified the lectures. He stated that he hardly ever gives A's to students and he gets ticked when a student earns one. That does NOT sound like a good teacher to me. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
He was a terrible professor, very arrogant, in his emails he would talk to you like you were stupid and if you dared to ask for help he would simply tell you that it was not his place and that you should know being a college student.
This teacher is challenging and wants his students to apply themselves. I think the students who don't like him are the ones who expect college to be a breeze and get by without giving 100%. He knows who is engaged and interested and who doesn't give a****,
He's a good guy, but as for teaching, he's very iffy. he can be very funny and sarcastic, but also very firm and strict. You definately need the book and to take notes. His tests seem easy but are hard, especially if you don't take notes. His tests are online and open book, MARK YOUR BOOK WITH ALL THE INFORMATION YOU TALK ABOUT IN CLASS!
TERRIBLE. To make it simple, hes rude, very unhelpful, entire class failed 1st test, i left class with one of highest grades being a "C" which was my ONLY C that semester, lowering my GPA, and im a hard worker, not a slacker, this man seriously is an a**. Would never take course again!
Very interesting guy. Can kind of be a jerk in class, but is truly the only teacher that challenges students to think. I ended up loving the class, even if his teaching method was unique and a bit abrasive.
this is seriously my all time favorite teacher...if you dont like him, your dumb! He wants people to use their minds, and rewards students for doing so. All you have to have in order to pass this class is an open mind and some determination. I've taken every class he teaches, and his teaching style is inspirational!
Williamson has very interesting lectures. He really knows all about sociology;however,I feel he has lost touch with this being an intro class. Great for the students who want to be a sociologist.
I for one believe that this man is a wonderful professor and only a "moron" wouldn't enjoy him and his class. He can be a bit of a pain in the butt, but all in all I can say he's the best professor I've ever had. I learned so much from this guy and I would recommend this class to anyone interested in obtaining interesting knowledge.
A very supercilious professor indeed. If you don't know what he knows, or think as he does, he will make sure to demean you. I do not recommend to ANYONE.
A very supercilious professor indeed. It seems as though to amuse himself, he wil demean you if you do not think as he does, or know what he knows. Had I known what type of teacher he was I would NEVER have signed up for his class.
First, I enjoyed this class, and received an A. I took the class online, and the class averages seemed quite low. I stopped by and met him one day at the school, and he was very nice to me. I did get the impression though, that he could be demeaning to people who did not put an effort into their work from some of the comments he made.
I did not know what to expect from this class. I took it online, he had an "early bird special" prior to the class starting where he set a time to meet with him and ask any questions you may have about the course. If you just take your time with the discussion ?'s you will be fine. I did not know anything coming into the class and manage an "A".
Bryan Williamson is a great teacher. You do however need to come to class, pay attention and follow directions. If you can do those 3 things, then you will be fine. He seems a bit gruff at first, but he really is very interesting and knowledgeable.
Great professor, interesting subject. Do the work and participate and you will pass the class - that easy. What you take from the class is up to you.
Mr. Williamson is a wonderful teacher and very helpful, he always answer his emails immediately, I highly recommend him.
Mr. W is one of the best professors I've had the pleasure of meeting. Very legitimate dude, I talk to him on campus all the time. His class is challenging but he gives you all necessary materials to succeed. Hope to take another class of his.
He is a really smart proffessors but will not baby anyone if you try and get his work done it will be an easy class
This prof keeps the class revelant, curent, and gives excellent examples. Attend and keep up with assignments and you'll do well. His is not a slouch class. He has a great personality and is by no means boring. He is genuinely friendly and helpful. Go into the class with a good attitude.
The only people who complain about this guy are the ones who dont read the syllabus and dont show up to class. He was a great teacher, kept it interesting and challenging, hard but if you try and read the material you can get an easy A. Gives lots of extra credit chances too. Very funny guy, taking him this semester for a diff class too.
BRYAN IS AWESOME! A lot of college students are afraid to ask for help from him because he does come off as a pretty serious, hard-shelled person, but e-mail is honestly the best things that could have happened to a confused student taking one of his courses. I passed Intro with a 98% and Race and Ethnicity with a 95%. VERY HELPFUL, and friendly.
He was arrogant, rude and way over the top for a intro course. Alot of work and not a pleasant experience
Amazing teacher.Took him for two different classes and not only aced both but learned so much. Even tutored for his classes because of how well he helped me understand it.Being at Cleveland State I truly miss having a teacher like him.Teachers with law degrees and Ph.D's here cant seem to teach or get you even close to understanding like him. A++
This professor wants to talk about McDonaldization? He is the perfect example of it! Let's be the grammar police and get our tests from online test banks, and use the SAME course documents EVERY semester without changing the wording on them. And yes, those are terms of absolution!
Bryan Williamson is honestly one of the most inspirational people I've ever met. His class is challenging, but there's nothing wrong with "earning" your grade. You should be open minded if you really want to indulge yourself is sociology. Don't be too serious. He sarcastic, but just keep communication open with him. Definitely recommend!!
Great person to learn from. However he is very rude. If you have any sort of religion at all, DO NOT take his class. He will criticize your beliefs to no end. Also, if you are PSEO, DO NOT take his class. I was a PSEO student, and he put me and another PSEO student infront of the class to embarrass. Very very rude. Avoid him at all costs!!!!
Great teacher, but get on his good side. He is a nice guy that will give second chances to those he feel deserves it, but he is very strict. He likes to challenge student's writing. He wants to improve his students skilss, however, it can come across the wrong way. His tests are very hard, so take good notes.
He's not really as open minded as he think. For an example, you have to attend classes or he thinks you are just using the government's money. Even if you come back with a medical accuse. Class is very easy, all his tests have the answers online. Grades based off of if your his favorite or not.
Awesome Teacher, Tests are online, uses angel a lot. Very good teacher for Soc.
He is extremely degrading in his responses back. Takes off points like an English teacher would. He is not very concerned about if your grasping the subject only about format and word count. Another teacher is recommended.
Williamson is a great lecturer but he is brusque. When emailing him he either doesn't answer or he will respond with a snarky comment. He is very interesting when he speaks in class but one on one he is obnoxious.
Teacher is very awesome! States everything in syllabus for the class. Had lots of extra credit opportunities. I have taken him for two classes and have passed both. He is very helpful and funny. As long as you do all the work and come to class you will do fine. I would recommend him. Always says hi to me when he sees me in the hallways.
This professor is rude and since the first day of class even, he takes any chance to embarrass or degrade someone. He spends a lot of his lectures complaining about students who don't do everything they should and repeats a LOT of the same comments. He does not give extra credit, if he does it's 3 points for something worth more. Give 100% to class
Bryan Williamson is a phenomenal instructor! His syllabus outlines the entire class; just read it! If you are not good at handling teachers picking on you steer clear, its all in good fun and typically means he likes you. He is passionate and will show you about yourself and people around you.
This guy was a jerk. Asking him for help was a joke, if you want to be talked down to and made to feel stupid, this is your guy. I took his class online and he had absolutely no direction. his direction is very limited, but he expects you to know it all! As far as his syllabus, 5 pages of more quotes than expectations is not a syllabus
Prof. Williamson was overall a good teacher. He is very knowledgeable of this subject and gives very interesting lectures. My advice however is to read the syllabus carefully and to stay on good terms with him if you want to succeed in his class. Easy if you put in the work and follow directions.
He was a joke. I suggest you read the book, print, & study notes pn your own, don't rely on him. He goes on a rampage on how stupid someone is in class, wasting class time and has the nerve to say that we are wasting someone elses money through the gov't (grants, loans).
Professor Williamson will make you work. However, he is very clear as to his expectations and extremely reasonable. He is more than willing to work with you, as long as you are putting in the effort. I wish I could take a million more classes with him! Sincerely, one of the best profs i have ever had.
He's very clear in his expectations, but they are very high. If you work hard then you will succeed and work a lot. If you don't work hard, he will NOT make this a fun class for you. One of my favorite profs. I've had, it's not easy, but it's rewarding.
I loved this teacher! At first I thought was kind of intimidating, but turned out to be super funny. He is a very intelligent man. If you do the work, and show up to class you can easily pass. He gives tons of extra credit. Make sure to read the syllabus and the other documents he tells you to read in the beginning as you will be tested on it.
I found this teacher to be difficult, arrogant and very rude
He provides many extra credit oppurtunities. However his instructions are very unclear in his online classes and if you email him for assistance his responses are rude and not helpful.
I'll keep this short and sweet: If you see his name on your class schedule, mentally prepare yourself to be humiliated and degraded! Overall, the course would have been somewhere between decent and interesting if Professor Williamson didn't degrade, be disrespectful, and or punish students for simply trying to learn and understand the material.
A very goofy and interactive teacher who is very passionate about the subjects he teaches about. Bryan is ways in a good mood and encourages his students to notice the little things about what he teaches in order for us to understand the big picture. Great teacher would recommend 10/10.
He is an awesome professor. He was very easy to work with, thorough lectures and a great sense of humor. I will be taking another course of his Fall 2020. I'm looking forward to it!
This teacher is awful. Very degrading to students, and responses are plain disrespectful if you try to ask for help. Grading is sporadic, and he expects you to know everything. Would not recommend.
Professor Williamson will deduct points from written assignments for anything (I've lost points for spelling his first name incorrectly). His responses to emails are generally condescending, and the requirements for written work are more fitting for an English class. Read the requirements carefully and you will survive, otherwise avoid him.
Run far away from him , rude very structural ex- military person and thinks his students is on the base with him. I struggled in his class his teaching methods required a lot and it would only be for a discussion. I made it out with a C
This is an intro to sociology. I repeat an intro to sociology. This guy takes himself way to seriously an like everyone in here has stated, is a complete jerk and rude to his students. He asks opinionated questions then flips it on you when it doesnt match his, then has nerve to dock for spelling when everything in his announcements are misspelled.
Starts the first two weeks of class expecting students to have a perfect understanding of each theory and write using that. Not only that but when the class inevitably is confused by this he'll write long worded emails to each student and expect the entire assignment to be redone. Rude, disrespectful and unorganized class
I took Race and Ethnicity as a Fine Arts credit and I highly regret it. Professor Williamson, all within the first week of class, assigned two discussion posts, expected us to know all the different critical methods, theories, etc. I failed just about all my discussion posts because all his instructions are unclear. Do not recommend taking class.
Dr. Williamson is such a wonderful professor! He shows kindness in all interactions and gives quick feedback. He communicated his expectations for each assignment clearly - I was never confused on what was needed to get a good grade. If you read the textbook, put thought into your discussions, and follow the very clear guidelines, you will be fine!
To save you time, this professor is very rude and disrespectful. Don't think about asking for help because you won't get it. Avoid this class and him as a professor.
