What Students Say
“Terrible grammar, isn't clear on anything of what he wants or doesn't want, tough grader, quiz's are all based on his point of views, and I felt if I had taken a different professor I would've definitely gotten more knowledge about history and a lot better grade”

He has set opinions as to the what the facts are in history and can be biased of students. His exams are short and long formal essays within the usual exam time constraints. Points are dropped in large incriments. There are 1 point per class extra credits
I hate the way that this man teaches. His teaching methods are unorthodox. His exams are very hard and he gives you like a bunch of notes that pertain to nothing. He doesn't give you much to go one when preparing for an exam and the exams are worth 50% of your grade which is just a bunch of B/S.
Gives way too much information. Talks past the time class is supposed to end. You end up studying a million facts that you don't even need for the test! I got an 'A' but I had to study 40 pages front-and-back of notes for each test.
He goes into great detail and by the time you get to the test,(there are only 2 midterm, and final) you are only tested on half of the information, but you don't know which half. He gives you randoms quizzes(id's) that you also have no idea what they are on. You will learn a lot, you will writealot
This profesor teaches as if it was a high school class by giving pop quizzes and asking random questions about the assigned readings (one time he got mad and dismissed the class early because it was apparant no one had done the reading for that day). If you read every day you'll do fine.
I really enjoyed Mr. Wuthrich's class. He's knowledgeable and I learned alot.
He is a great teacher. Not too hard, but you have to stay on top of the material for the quizzes. But if not, do the extra credit and you will be fine.
Hmmm.........hes interesting, he an older very up to date teacher. He does talk alot and he does not really give out those "key sentences" that are on the test during class. But he gives you alot of chances to do well, and his tests are not hard.
He is a very passionate about his lectures, so I highly encourage you to come to class ready to take notes! His multiple-choice tests are a little tricky so be sure you know the notes front and back. Over all, it was a fun class. He even let us watch an episode of South Park in class!
bryan is hot! you wont be able to study because he looks so good
this head is easy. take some notes and show up for class...i missed a bunch of days but he tells you what to study and the tests are easy. take if looking for easy A also easy paper grader.
Enjoyed the class. The material was presented in an interesting way.
Not the best. you can definetly find better history teachers. he doesn't delve into the material like he should...he jumps around and it is hard to take good notes that u can use later b/c he is unclear. always wears green, yellow or brown.
Lots of notes/lectures. Good luck trying to study for an exam b/c he is so damn vague.Be prepared to be re-taught everything you learned in HS from WW2. Despite that, his tests are passable if you BS them, his assignments are easy, and the term paper is an easy A if you just rewrite whatever his notes and the book says "in your own words".
I highly encourage taking his class. It is by far the best class i have taken at SFCC.
He is the worst teacher at SFCC DONT TAKE HIS CLASS.....it is terrible, boring and his policy is the A is for him the B for the book and C for the student....History is interesting but not with him
He is the worst teacher at SFCC...I dont recommend this teacher at all. He thinks he is better than anyone else...HORRIBLE!!!
Wuthrich is a great professor. He explains everything very clearly and the assignments aren't that hard. Make sure to do your work and take notes and you will be fine. Overall a pretty kick ass teacher.
He is a good teacher. I learned a lot from his class. Kinda boring but make sure you do assigments online and keep up with the online quizzes which you have unlimited times to take. Only 2 major tests and 1 paper which isnt to bad.
hes there to lecture.....if you can take notes and study them then its an easy A but if you are looking for a handout then dont take him....
VERY BORING!! YOU MUST HAVE A COMPUTER TO PASS THIS CLASS BECAUSE HE ONLY DOES WEBCT. HE LECTURES FOR 3 HOURS STRAIGHT AND IT'S NOT EASY TO TAKE HIS NOTES. HE'S GOT A DRY PERSONALITY AND OVERALL SUCKS.
HE SUCKS!! ONLY USES WEBCT.ONLY LECTURES. HE SUCKS!
Good teacher, give you chances to make up points for a good grade. But you have to study. Not a easy A
Prof. Wuthrich is a great professor. Read the book extensively, take ALL the quizzes online, attend class (and take notes), do the assignments and extra credit. He uses WebCT. His class is a lot of work, but assignments/extra credit are fun and he is very knowledgeable about history. He is also very helpful and wants his students to succeed.
Awesome teacher as long as you go to class, take notes, and pay attention. He really knows his material and enjoys teaching so is more than willing to help. You have to write a term paper but this is college after all folks.
He is GREAT TEACHER AND VERY NICE!! HE IS HELPFUL AND UNDERSTANDING OF HIS STUDENTS AND KNOWS HISTORY VERY WELL. YOU WONT BE DOING ANOYING PACKETS OR ANYTHING, JUST BEING LECTURED AND USING WEBCT...BUT HE IS A GOOD TEACHER AND HIS CLASS IS PRETTY EASY! i DEF RECCOMEND!
Great teacher. You have to go to class but his lectures are straight forward and he gives a good review for each exam. If you aren't sure about something ask him and he will help!!
MONOTONE! If you are a kinesthetic or visual learner, this probably isn't the class for you. It's all lectures and WebCT. No paper, but written exams.
Nice guy and the class wasn't so bad either. He uses history channel shows to teach class on some says, which is a plus, and he reviews before all the tests.
He is an Idiot! His knowledge of important European facts is not only laxking, it is grossly incorrct! His lectures are always out of order and so confusing. And it is nearly impossible to know what to study for the tests.
I thought this class would be hard and boring at first, but i really came to like it a lot! He is a really nice guy and was willing to help me when i came to him with help. His lectures were very helpful so make sure to take notes and pay attention. The class is very well structured and it was easy to do well. Really enjoyed the class!
This class was an easy A. Expects you to turn everything in on time like a normal teacher. Allows a lot of extra credit oppurtunities and two of tests are hard (STUDY and you'll pass them) and the other two tests are a joke (way to easy).
Class is more trouble than it's worth. lots of online quizzes that have nothing to do w/ lectures. lectures are disoriented & more difficult to follow than they should be. there are two online exams(easy) & two timed written exams(harder than they should be. you have to study A LOT!) i suggest you avoid if you can. this comes from an A student.
I REALLY ENJOYED HIS CLASS. I LEARNED SO MUCH INFORMATION AND HE WAS VERY HELPFUL THROUGHOUT THE SEMESTER. DEFINITELY TAKE HIM- HE KNOWS HISTORY AND VERY LAID BACK.
This guy was kinda goofy but his class was really easy. His attendance policy is slack (5%). The guy basically hands you a C with his grading and if you study a little you should get by fine. His lectures are garbage however and will put you to sleep.
hes horrible- plain and simple! k bye
Lots of homework and assignments. Online quiz questions tend to have more than one correct answer but you can take them as many times as you want. Grades hard.
Mr. Wuthrich isnt easy thats for sure. His lectures are a little disorganized but has alot of information, you have to take two pretty hard eassy test STUDY for them and a lot of online quiz's but you can take them as many times as you want. He grades pretty hard on the assingments but offers plenty of EC to ensure you receive an A if you try
I took him online and it was horrible i did everything except a few items and failed the class. IT is my first F ever!
Very hard, I took his online class and had to do every extra credit assignment just to get a C
Dont listen to what anyone said about him being helpful and the class being easy. Its far from. You can only take a quiz once. Thats it. His lectures have nothing to do with any of the quizzes or exams. If it wasn't part of your grade it wouldn't even be worth going to class.
an overall easy clas.. but its a lot of work - textbook reading - if its a summer class. an understanding and kind teacher. pretty easy grader.
Best history professor I've had. He presses for hard work but at the same time will joke around a little in the classroom. The work isn't what I'd call easy, you have to know what you're talking about. But if you put in a good amount of effort, you will be rewarded. And, like all classes, if you fail, it's your choice.
he's an idiot, he gives so much work, very hard class, if you can take someone else. he acted like his class is the only class you had. if you want to pass take someone else anyone but him.
Interesting lectures, with a focus on key concepts instead of just dry facts. Makes it clear what you'll need to cover in your essay assignments (which comprise the biggest portion of your grade, but are not too much work). Lots of reading for chapter quizzes, but they are online/open-book and count for only a tiny part of your grade. Good overall.
Easy class if you do the work. He gives you a study guide with 2/3 of the exact test questions on it. Chapter quizzes and class discussions have little to do with your grade. I would recommend him.
Be aware that he does all of his stuff online. The online quizzes are kind of hard if you don't pay attention in class or read the book. His lectures are hard to follow because they are disorganised. I would not reccomend taking him, but he is very knowledgeable at what he is teaching and loves the subject.
Loves what he teaches and is great teaching history material
boring, boring, boring! he talks about the same things all the time and rambles on and on. i would not recommend taking him!
Took him for AMH 2035 and WOH 2020. Focuses more on the why things happened then just what happened. Found the classes to be interesting. For WOH, you get what you put in. Just do the work , pay attention in class and you will be fine. For AMH 2035 was a good class as well. We had to write a paper but eh helped us with it. I'd recommend him.
Fairly easy, took him for 1945-present...Cold war but he ran out of material with 2weeks left in the sems. Repeats whole lectures. Show up and you get an A, you do have to write a 10pg paper though. He loves history and his PHD...the Beatnicks are his THING! Overall I would say take the class but dont expect to get too much out of it.
very hard to comphrend
Great teacher. Put a little effort in as you go instead of waiting til last minute, and you can make above 100%. I'm 28 with four kids and a full time job and I got an A+ (101%). Online class. TAKE THIS CLASS!! Participate in the forums, do the extra credit.
I didn't realize until this class was over how great of a teacher he was. During the semester I couldn't stand him, his lectures were BORING and he just annoyed me. However, when the class was over I noticed how much I had learned. Not an easy A but worth taking. Don't take this class if you don't like doing all of your work online.
He is a GREAT teacher. Stylistically he may be a little difficult for some students because his class makes you think, it's not all about memorization. That being said, if you get involved in the lectures and online discussions the class is fun and he's pretty funny too. Make sure you work on the 10pg paper since it's the majority of your grade!
Fantastic teacher! His lectures are intelligent and genuine and he has a passion for the material. Take his class if you like a fun energetic teacher and /or are interested in learning about American history
Bryan Wuthrich is the worst teacher i have ever had. If you wish to actually learn something, pass this class and not waste your money DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
He's the meanest teacher I've ever spoken with. He never really stays on topic, he won't help you at all, and he gives the worst feedback I've ever had.
Took online, very nice on the phone, but felt like I couldn't get it clear on what he expected. The quizes past middle of book were all confused within a 3-4 chapter span since he was using old edition apparently There is tons of reading writing extra credit tests quizes If you aren't willing to work hard, take someone else. He promtly answers email
I took this class online and it was more work than I thought. Very long quizzes, but you can take them 4 times for an average and 5 lowest get dropped. Tons of extra credit so there's no excuse not to pass. Feedback is given for you to improve your writing. Prof Wuthrich is passionate abt teaching and wants you to learn. Welcome to college.
I took his classes online and personally I loved it. He's very nice and patient. Gives a lot of extra credit, his quizzes are long but very easy if you study, there wasn't a lot of work to do in his class but I'm very pleased. I highly recommend him!
Easiest class. Gives a ton of extra credit. I didn't have to take the final or do the last 2 writing assignments because I did extra credit and had over 100%. His lectures are kind of boring but he gives a review before each test and questions come directly from it so test are pretty easy. Easy A if you go to class and do the assignments.
Easiest class I have ever taken. I finished with a 117%, so I didn't have to take the final, and still ended up with 102% with a 0 for the final. Tons of extra credit. Review for each test, which most test questions come from. Writing assignments are easy if you just read the document. Just go to class and pay attention and you will get an A.
Taking W's online class now. It consists of 5 units, each w/ an essay & 3 discussions to participate in, with a few quizzes here and there. There are 3 short exams per unit, which you can take twice! PLENTY of Extra Credit opportunities. Sweet deal. W is very helpful and promptly responds to ?s. definitely recommend!
He was very helpful last semester when I took his class. There were so many extra credit opportunities that it was impossible to not pass.
I am currently taking this class online, it is very hard and the teacher is very unhelpful, his exams are hard because he makes them fill in the blink and there is absolutely only one possible answer even if your word means the same as the one. I would not take this class online! maybe it is easier in class but I do not know.
Very awful online teacher. He does not let you understand exatcly what he wants from you when writing a paper or posting discussion. MY TIP to everyone is just don't take him at all! :(
This guy is awesome. Me and my roomate took this class and we didn't go to class for the last 2 weeks. I got a 99 and he got a 101. Gives a ton of extra credit. Just study the practice exam he gives you and glance over your notes and you will ace your test. This is the best teacher I probably ever had. If your interested in history and want to know facts, you would be a clown not to take this.
This teacher may be good in class but his online class is very unorganized and I feel as if he doesn't really know what he is doing. you must read the book, of course, its an online class. The papers you must write are hard because he acts like an english teacher when grading. also he doesn't really tell you what he is looking for.
Wuthrich is a great teacher if you go to his physical class. From the other comments, looks like his online class sucks, but in-class he is an observant, explanatory, articulate teacher, who actually gets the students involved and intrigued in the subject. His papers are challenging.
At first I was a little skeptical in the class because I got a 63 on the first exam, but he offers so much extra credit that even with a 63 on the first & second exam I still have a 120%. It's crazy! He's very clear about what he wants for papers. I've never gotten below a B on his essay homework. Take him! I'm taking AMH 2020 with him too!
This teacher is AWESOME!! Tests are VERY EASY and are all online. All he does is lecture every class and the lectures are a little repeatitive, well what am I saying, ALOT repeatitive, but he's very straight to the point, and gives SO MUCH extra credit its absolutely impossible to get lower than a C in his class...unless you just dont do anything!
good teacher grades pretty rough but in the end there is a ton of EC.
Although this teach gives LOTS of extra credit, and I could not have passed without it, I felt he was a bit sarcastic in his replies when I reached out for help. He does not grade in much of a timely manner either. Not the best professor, but appreciate the extra credit.
First off, I was never interested in history, Second off I didn't think I would pass bc my lack of knowledge in history..But this class is super easy, however his test are fairly hard (don't really pertain to in class lectures, all book) but there is so much extra credit everyone should pass with an A+.. great teacher!
Wuthrich is an interesting character and makes his lectures somewhat fun (for the most part). His exams, there are about 5, are straight forward. Tests are based off notes and he provides many simple opportunities for extra credit. Overall, easy 'A' if you attend his lectures.
AWFUL. AWFUL. AWFUL. You never know what he wants. He grades horribly. He never gives you clear instructions. The ENTIRE class is based on a 10 page paper that he tells you is wrong half way through the class. Awful teacher. He honestly, ruined my love for history and I'm scared to take another class. Do notttttt take him!!
I love him. He is super interesting and actually has character. I would defininately recommend taking him. There aren't many test and he gives a lot of extra credit. He is very fair and grades based on the "rule of law".
This was honestly one of the easiest classes I have taken in my life. The teacher really knows his history, and doesn't assign much work. He is very lenient on grading essays and gives tons of extra credit. It's extremely easy to get an A in this class with little effort. I highly recommend him!
A very knowledgeable teacher! The assignments are straightforward and are always available to access online through ANGEL Learning. His tests are fairly easier and tend to have a few questions that may have been breifly talked about in class.
You will learn a lot. The essays were easy once you understood what he was expecting. Most people were summarizing the event and getting low grades.. what he was looking for in all the essays were how the event related to history and how it was connected to another event. If you can connect the dots you'll get an A.. EC will bump two letter grades.
On the beginning I was completely lost and thought how the heck am I going to pass this class. After the first test and 2 papers, I got the hang of his class. I had a 69 halfway, so I did all the work that was left including EC and ended up with an A! Honestly, he's a good prof and the class is easy, seriously!
Don't like the class, in it now. Normally I love history but he makes it kinda boring. Directions confusing. He comes in, talks for a while and then leaves. Not a lot of what he says is on the test. He had us do a 90 Q review of which probably 5 of them were on the test. I wouldn't recommend it but it's whatever.
I'm not very good at history, but I got an A in this class. He is rather funny at times and seems like a nice guy but isn't very clear. Just take good notes and do well on essays, which count for most of your grade.
Overall class is fairly easy, but you will be teaching yourself. If you need to communicate with him, you should forget it. I took the Honor's course and became very sick and needed to be hospitalized. I tried several times to communicate with him, which proved futile.I was forced to withdraw and he seemed pretty apathetic about that. Unprofessional
This class should be considered a "research paper" course. He teaches very little history. He spends 1/2 of classes talking about the paper, yet he still is unclear, remarkably. If you get a c+ or better on your paper and do the extra credit presentation, you will receive an A. its just a matter if you really want to deal with his aggravation.
Class is super easy. Pay attention in class and take notes on lecture. Right down what he says too, they will be on the test. Some test are a little hard, but like I said study from notes taken from the lectures. Some essays which are easy too. I'm a terrible writer and got at least a B on them.
Just take good notes, and have a study buddy to take the online exams with. DO the extra credit it will save you in the end!
He's not too organized. Only gives a couple extra credit but they're worth A LOT. I hate history and I passed with an A+. He's definitely a cool person but his lectures are very confusing. Tests, some on scantron, some on Canvas. He's really into Canvas. As long as you take good notes during lectures you'll do fine on tests.
Really good teacher. He can be unclear sometimes though. I have one tip for this class : DO ALL OF THE EXTRA CREDIT. I did poorly on all the tests and decently on the essays. I did every extra credit assignment and calculated that if I didn't show up for the exam, I would get a 99% in the class still. I finished with a 102% and failed a test.
He knows his stuff, and feels like only "his answers" are only correct! He Somewhat in a way don't like when you raise your hand and share your knowledge on things you know, even when your are right, he will shut you down, so don't be a teachers pet lol! But tests aren't supper hard, but take good notes and do extra credit!! it helped me pass!
Super easy A as long as you do the extra credit
All of class is lectures and looking at his power points which he posts online. The power points are kind of confusing. Not really clear cut. Mostly just pictures, dates and quotes. He doesn't tell you specific material that will be on the tests so you have to study all the power points. He also makes awkward eye contact. EC is a big part of grade.
Fantastic Class with easy to follow powerpoints and notes online. Assignments are not to long and extra credit almost guarantees an A in the class. The test are moderate in difficulty and the online quizzes are quite easy. As long as you can write on a college level and remember to do a few EC assignments you should earn an A.
I usually zone out for history but this year I tried my best to stay focused and take notes this year and it made me enjoy history! A lot of people complain about his powerpoints and lectures not matching his exams or quizzes but heres a secret, use your textbook! The book's code will give you access to many detailed quizzes for every chapter! (+)
(+) about the essays - he adds comments after he grades it, it should help make your next paper better. My basic structure was this: Introduction - Include all points discussed in lectures (important to attend and pay attention), Body Paragraphs - 3 quotes thats supports my main point, Conclusion -Wrap up of its signifigance & clarity on main point
This class was an easy A if you did the extra credit and did OK on tests. I failed all tests and got C's on all my papers and got a B+. Over all he is very disorganized, he doesn't make sense with regards to homework, and he is very boring. I also didn't go to class for an entire month and still passed with a high B. Also, you don't need the book!
AWESOME CLASS! I do not like history, not good at it. TONS OF EXTRA CREDIT. Do the EC you're guaranteed an A. His lectures are clear for exams. Directions are not precise for papers but you have free range. Half of your exams are at home online and final is just another unit exam. Not only was it easy, but I actually feel like I learned something.
This is not the history class you normally would expect, he doesn't teach history much, but rather, he wants you to READ and WRITE a lot, he wants you to think critically which has nothing to do with history in general. Even though he offers 20% EC, but all ECs are essay. Quiz is unfair, it only takes your average score rather than highest score.
He lives and breathes American History, and just rambles on and on and on. I was never a fan of history, so that probably doesn't help, but I have a very difficult time trying to stay focused and pay attention to him. He does give a lot of extra credit which is nice, but it's not easy. Test are pretty hard. No presentations, however, which is nice.
Do the extra credit
I thoroughly enjoy history but with this teacher, I didn't know anything. Whatever he taught in class was not on the online homework.. He doesn't know how to use correct grammar or spelling. I would NOT recommend him as a teacher to anyone unless you want to stress every day of your life.. TRUST ME DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
I hated this class, not only because I hate history but just an overall rude professor. He would basically say that every assignment I did was wrong. I BARELY made it out with a B in this class. Don't take this class if you can't write an ANALYTICAL essay which I obviously can't do. Gives extra credit but it's all analytical writing assignments.
Ugh. He was not the worst, but he was bad. He is an awesome lecturer, but that's the only good thing I can say. His Powerpoints are okay but he does not teach what is on the tests/quizzes. You have to do a ton of online reading and writing. My analyses of documents supposedly had no historical info every time. I went to see him but he did not help.
As long as you do all the work (especially the written assignments) then you should be fine. I definitely recommend doing ALL of the extra credit, it really helps. The in-class tests are pretty tough, but if you do good on everything else, then the grades you get on your tests won't matter so much. There are 6 main exams, 3 in class and 3 online.
Good teacher and good online content. However, he sends lots of homework and quizzes, sometimes one or two per day. Hard to follow the rhythm of the class, but some extra credits can help.
Every class is just rambling on about his point of view on history. Terrible grammar, isn't clear on anything of what he wants or doesn't want, tough grader, quiz's are all based on his point of views, and I felt if I had taken a different professor I would've definitely gotten more knowledge about history and a lot better grade. DONT TAKE! AWFUL
Professor Wuthrich is a pretty easy teacher and you would have to do a lot to not pass. However, he has a very heavy load of assignments due every week ( online) , they are all easy for the most part but time consuming. Gives extra credit and also doesn't require a book. Very clear on what tests are over. You would be fine taking this class online.
Awful. Rambles and opinionated. Uses an online text that is badly written and inaccurate. He puts no effort into structuring class lectures with very little content. Whole grade is primarily based on little a simplistic formula paper. Run if you plan on learning anything.
There is a lot of writing in this class, but he clearly explains what you need to do to better yourself. He is a good teacher and knows a lot. the textbook was online for my class and you need to make sure to take notes and read over the text book! Also take advantage of the extra credit!
I really enjoyed this class. It is an easy A or B. The lecture is honestly kind of boring, which makes it easier to zone out. All the assignments are online, & he encourages you to use his online text book to look up the answers. Tests are easy and not weighted heavily. There is easy extra credit which could be 20% of your grade!
Professor Wuthrich is a great instructor. Much of the grade is writing, but it's made easy by the fact that he's interested in your interpretation of the history assimilated, and interacts with you about it. Every class was a lecture, but, he's light on the data and "nuances" of the history, making it more anecdotal, and consequently, captivating.
Professor Wuthrich was a decent professor. He gave great feedback, but I struggled with the reading. He wrote all of the passages we had to read, and when it came to test taking, it was hard to interpret what exactly he was asking for. He lets you retake quizzes and provides plenty of extra credit. I would have finished with a high C, otherwise.
Professor Wuthrich was absolutely amazing he made history so interesting! He has online quizzes each week which are easy, he has 3 essays which he gives great feedback on. 10/10 recommend his class.
Even though i'm international and i didn't know anything about american history i learned a lot. I took this class online and i had to read too much and i didn't do so well on quizzes or test but he gives 20% of extra credit so it is easy to get an A. This teacher gives you good feedback and many opportunities
Good professor had extra credit built into the grading.
Prof. Wuthrich was a great teacher. I took his fall history class for my research credit. He was a great teacher. This class itself is difficult because its centered around one paper for the entire semester, but he's great at guiding you. He gives awesome feedback and rewards you for corrections. Hes super interesting to listen to and is cute too
Fantastic course! He is a tough grader, but you really learn from your assignments. There are two extra credit opportunities, DO THEM BOTH! His tests are somewhat difficult and I promise you will probably do poorly on one. If you do the extra credit it is impossible to get anything lower than a B unless you just do not try in the class.
Wutherich is very passionate about history and therefore has his own opinions that influence how he grades and his questions on quizzes. His quizzes are super hard and he is a tough grader on assignments. I would have taken a different class had I known how bad It was going to be.
Perhaps it is my interest in history, but I have thoroughly enjoyed taking Professor Wuthrich's courses (I'm taking him for the second time currently). His lectures and interesting, in depth, and insightful. He is always willing to answer your questions. I wish there was a larger emphasis on learning analyzation skills in the class.
Made class interesting and relevant. I enjoyed going to class and constantly sat in the front row to engage in class. I would recommend him to anyone having to take his class.
You do get an cumulative attendance grade so you can miss a few classes. Class is not boring you actually learn, I got excited to learn history. If you don't like history or think it's boring he will make it interesting. All the work (weekly quiz on reading and sometimes a short essay) and the tests are online which is convenient. & EXTRA CREDIT
He makes a point of being very clear about how he will not stray from the syllabus, so don't even ask him. Sometimes can comprehend why students are confused about something and gets annoyed when too many people ask questions about the same thing. Will mention a quiz or assignment weeks before the due date and never bring it up again so pat attenti
First off, DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. Wuthrich is mediocre. It is obvious that he knows his stuff, but teaching wise, he is not that great. He seems unorganized and unclear. He has a hard time comprehending when people don't understand his instructions. He is also a very tough grader so utilize his office hours. If you like history you should be ok.
I took Wuthrich for AMH2010 and AMH2020 and learned alot, but this class is really just a large research paper with very hard to understand directions. A research paper would be one thing, but the paper broken down into different parts and the bibliography so confused. Do not take unless you have many hours to devote to this one class.
Honestly, the worst class I have taken at Santa Fe. I took this class online & it was horrible. Quizzes are fill in the blank & they are random words from lecture chapter, worst quizzes I've ever had to take... I've never rated a professor before, but I thought I would warn everyone before they consider taking this class. Take with someone else!!
I took his online class which was made of up test, quizzes and 3 papers. I've been taking test with another history teacher and at best am getting C's. Quizzes are a multitude of things, but you have unlimited attempts and scores are averaged together. Papers are tough, for all 3 my class average was between 50%-60%. Class requires hard work
He was one of the best professors I've had so far! If you do all your work and the extra credit assignments he gives, you'll get an A. He gives you two EC for 10 pts each, DO IT! I took this class over the summer so I had lots of homework but never found it stressful. Definitely take his class if available.
Little to no feedback and is very unclear with what he requires for papers and other written assignments. I highly don't recommend taking any of his courses.
Put in a little effort, and you have your A. I turned almost everything in late, and pulled out a B. The professor is very thorough in explaining how to improve your paper; his feedback is topnotch. I would guess that this is close to the easiest class for the writing intensive credit. Professor was excellent at communication.
It would be very VERY hard to fail this class. He gives 20% extra credit in his class. Personally, I think his essay grading is not harsh at all. Lecture heavy. Once he starts talking, it doesnt stop. No question asking, no hand raising, from beginning to end he lectures everyday. He can be pretty funny sometimes and his humor is natural.
Make sure to study and take ALL QUIZZES if you get a B TAKE IT AGAIN just incase, and if you have the chance do the extra credit. Wuthrich stands at the front of the class lecturing the entire class with a powerpoint that is often unreadable every class.
Would not bump my 79.27 up... Really boring lectures and course material. I did not learn anything.
Professor Wuthrich is great. He is very organized and offers a lot of extra credit which can really boost your grade. He is clearly very interested and informed about history. The analysis assignments are kind of tough, but as long as you put in the effort you'll get a B. There is a lot of reading to do, but it is fairly easy.
Be attentive of the syllabus and when quizzes/papers are due because he will only mention it once besides constant reminder messages that fill your inbox. For some reason you take a quiz on material before being taught the content, then the next week the subject comes up in class lectures. Feels really backwards...
He talks a lot about stuff that you won't be quizzed on.
very nice guy, he's a quick responder to emails and will try to assist you. BUT I do not recommend taking his class! Lectures in monotone the whole class start to end and he uses a Reverse teaching style, quizzes on subjects prior to them being taught. Tough essay grader. Mandatory attendance is a grade. I didn't learn a thing.
Professor Wuthrich is a very caring and passionate professor. Every class meeting is a lecture, while all assignments and EXAMS are assigned on canvas. He provides the class materials so you will not need to buy textbooks. Take advantage of the two extra credit assignments and it will be pretty impossible to get anything below an A.
Had him for two semesters. MAKE SURE YOU DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. It seems like it won't do much (it shows it as only being 10 points on canvas), but it honestly does. If you get an A on one of the extra credit assignments it puts you up a whole letter grade. The quizzes are super easy but the exams will bring you down.
I've taken two classes with Bryan Wuthrich and I enjoyed this one more than the last. He is very knowledgeable in his subject which makes his lectures more engaging. The only reason you wouldn't get an A in this class is if you're a slacker - all the material is in the modules and the writing isn't hard if you know what you're doing.
The class is boring but the professor is cool and nice. He always looks sharp. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT.
I've had him for 2 semesters straight and neither amh 2010 or 2020 made any sense. if you have a C in his class DO THE EXTRA CREDIT it is worth an insane amount of points
I definitely learned a lot from his class but he makes you work for a decent grade for sure. I probably wouldn't take him again just because of how he worded his quiz questions. I found it very confusing and he tends to quiz you on material we haven't gone over yet in class.
This class was tough! If you aren't really interested in History, I wouldn't suggest you taking this class. Our main focus was the Research Paper and a few other assignments. He's a tough grader!!! I was so happy that I received a C.
Lots of reading and the assignments are not that easy (you can't always google them). However, offers insane extra credit and the main essays (only a couple) are easy and short. He actually gives very helpful and detailed feedback on your papers for correction and he is very responsive in email. He also emails me assignment reminders.
I took Professor Wuthrich this semester online for American History since 1877. There are a lot of tests and a few exams for every unit so get ready to read. The tests are not that hard since a few of them are multiple choice and some fill in the blank + 2 extra credit assignments that boost your grade 2 letters up. Final was a 1500 paper.
I only went to this class the first week and did the rest online. There is really no need to go to class unless you learn better in person. The quizzes are fairly easy since you can retake them as many times as you want. You have to write a couple analytical essays which were the hardest assignments personally. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!
I took him for AHM2010 and AMH2020, he was very straightforward with grading and the syllabus. He posts the entire class at the beginning of the semester so if you like getting ahead, he is the teacher for you. Even taking him in person, the class is mostly online, so don't take him if you struggle with online classes.
Very Easy class. Very little work. Do the extra credit and your grade will get pumped at least 15 points.
Professor Wuthrich made history interesting for me. I liked his lectures, and I learned a lot. I highly recommend attending class, and I HIGHLY recommend writing the extra credit essays (even if you don't think you need them). The course is organized very well in canvas, and his feedback is extremely helpful and specific. Friendly guy.
wutherich is a nice guy and gives feedback, but his lectures are boring, and the class is basically backwards teaching. he assigns tests and quizzes weekly and often its more than one test/quiz, he will lecture sometimes over the class period end time, and be ready to read everyday. And you would have to write 2 papers which isn't that bad.
Had mon+wed class and I think I stopped showing up after the 2nd week because my other class was keeping me so busy with homework yet I still passed this class. Just have to do the tests and quizzes ON TIME because he will not give you any leniency since he does make everything accessible in advanced.
Great class, taken all online because I work full time, actually learn a thing or two. If you do the modules and assignments on time - and do the extra credits, you should have no problem getting at least an A. Best thing is no text book and he seems pretty chill, but he is not liberal on due dates so make sure you do everything on time!
I've taken this class during summer A, and with all the assignments given because of the short amount of time you have in this class I truly feels as if Professor Wuthrich has the class set up in a way that if you do your work and read the materials that he provide you will do well in his class. A great teacher and class to take hands down...
Barley went over any history within the class. Majority of the grade was on one paper and every class we talked about the paper. I signed up with the interest of learning history and this class has managed to ruin my love of "history" I would NOT recommend this class or professor to anyone who wants to keep there interest in history.
Honestly its my fault for not taking advantage of the extra credit he gave. My grade would have been much better. Great professor I would take this course again
This professor was nice but his class I would not recommend. The whole class is literally about doing the final paper. All he does in class is talk and it is kind of boring but overall an easy grade I guess. You just have to do the paper and have at least a 70 on it.
Pros: he is organized and does not have favoritism, good guy, Cons: his reading assignments are extremely hard to understand, you will then be quizzed on the reading which is an issue since his readings feel like a word puzzle. He overcomplicates his writing by trying to sound sophisticated. And you can't send in work late unless he says so.
Worst Professor on Santa Fe Campus! Makes everything about his course extremely difficult. There aren't many assignments besides one large paper that makes up the majority of your grade. His instructions and expectations are unclear and he's very bias. Attendance is required, but it doesn't make a difference. You won't pass. I don't recommend.
He's nice and chill. It is easy to get a good grade. I felt like the class wasn't super stimulating and comprehensive because he didn't encourage class participation. His essays are fun and I did learn from his class. He'll help you if you need it. An intermediate level of difficulty and an intermediate learning result.
Wuthrich is an okay professor, he is very test and assignment-heavy. He is polite and emails you back in a timely manner, but is a harsh grader when it comes to the written papers. He expects you to write on his level. He rambles and tends to overcomplicate things. Not horrible but not the best I've taken.
Most important thing is to do the extra credit, it can add a full 20% to your grade.
Professor Wuthrich is very organized and sends students reminders for each assignment before they are due. He has a lot of reading assignments that you will be quizzed on, but he makes the quizzes more confusing w/ information that we have not discussed in class. He is an extremely hard grader on papers and expects students to write on his level.
Prof. Wuthrich is a tough grader regarding papers but offers so many extra credit opportunities it's very unlikely for one to receive a bad grade. His online course is filled with many long lectures (aka readings) but they are quite easy to follow. His quizzes and exams can also be difficult since they rely more on historical analysis.
After having medical emegrancies other teachers of mine were willing to work with me to get caught back up. not this guy. This yankee from mass. doesnt care about you or his course, he just wants his paycheck and to get out. he assigns so much work you see people fall behind quickly. Wouldnt let anyone i know take this guy again.
This professor is so incredibly boring and gives the worst assignments ive ever seen. His lectures give you nothing and consider yourself lucky if you aren't put to sleep by them. He grades so harshly and his essays should be considered a crime. The way he gives instructions is terrible and does no one any good. i don't recommend.
he is the worst instructor ever. He is the toughest grader I have ever seen. he even fail your writings if they are not on his level! I promise you, he is not a good option. try another professor.
All he does is talk and talk and talk during the entire class. One good thing about his class is that at the beginning of the semester you know when all the assignments are due. Most of the quizzes/exam answers can be found in his readings. He's a nice guy and is funny, but I would consider other teachers if you don't like heavy lectures.
He is a good professor, especially online. He narrates audio recordings of the reading material if you'd rather listen than read. He is a very tough grader on essays. However, he offers multiple extra credit opportunities that are weighted so heavily that just by doing them and making sure you're passing quizzes and exams, you will get an A.
This teacher was to difficult to understand his lecture, the test he made us take made no sense.
Last semester at Santa Fe. Never had so many problems with any professor in the past two years. The essays would be graded harshly with unclear feedback. Would tell me I need more historical context but I used all information from primary source. Once confronted proceeds to tell me that I put in no effort. GPA is 3.8 even good students cant do well
Professor Wuthrich isn't the greatest, but he's definitely not a bad professor. He talks forever and at least half the class is usually on their phones. The exams are very challenging and specific. All being said, DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. My grade went up about 16 points off of doing the extra credit assignments.
Professor Wuthrich is a kind person; however, I would not recommend him as a teacher. He assigns an extreme amount of homework, and his exams are very hard. There are two essays throughout the semester, and he will grade them ridiculously harshly. He lectures for the whole class. I would recommend doing the extra credit essays to save your grade.
Really nice person but beware of his fill-in-the-blank exams, they're specific to the way he wants to word them. PLEASE do the extra credit essays that are optional it will boost your grade A LOT. He's a tough grader as well. Attendance is mandatory and this class is lecture heavy.
Professor Wuthrich was very nice but his grading policy was not so nice. There are two main papers which are worth a lot and he grades then like you are in a English class it's ridiculous especially for AMH2010. I got better then the average on one of the papers which was a C-. He does provide two extra credit papers which can bump your grade 20%.
I don't understand the need to overcomplicate the story, which in itself is complicated. Excess homework, reading, and incredibly tough grader.
If you have diagnosed ADD and/or auditory processing issues, do NOT take this class online. I needed the class as I didn't have my research and analysis credit. The professor grades harshly for an undergrad class & is very vague with comments in rubric. Aside from negatives, the professor is nice & does genuinely want to help struggling students.
Great person. But teaches history as if students also have a PhD in the subject. Short quizzes every week followed by an exam. Extra credit is offered twice in the semester and require work. Lectures feel incredibly long. Most of the time there is a paragraph written on the slides and he talked in depth about it.
Good lectures, cool teacher
His essays/tests have to include his specific vocabulary and phrases or you will fail. Do the extra credit, it will save you at the end. Honestly this class should be taken online, the in-person lectures are just a repeat of what you spent hours reading online, verbatim. Attendnace is mandatory, most people walked out halfway through class time.
Professor Wuthrich is a hard professor. Grading is tougher than any other professor I have had. He is very funny and always will respond to questions via email within minutes. Readings each week take about an hour or two, and then lectures are the same exact thing the following week. Online quizzes and exams each week. However, I did learn a lot.
Terrible teacher. His grading system is odd and I don't think you can get more than a C without getting A's on the papers. I asked him to review my essay so I could get a higher grade, he told me I don't deserve it and he should've given me a worse grade. He says attendance doesn't count but it does and if u don't show he drops ur grade.
His lectures are super cool. He grades essays kind of harshly but I wouldn't say unreasonably so. The essays are technically only three paragraphs mandatory but people who write more tend to get better grades.
Do NOT take this professor. He is hard on students; do all the extra credit just to have a shot at passing. This class is for freshmen, and he expects Ph.D.-level writing. He is unhelpful & disrespectful. If you ask for help, you will get snarky and belittling comments. The rubric he posts for the assignments is NOT the rubric he uses for grading.
Professor Wuthrich is a tough grader, but his lectures are engaging. Use resources like unstuck study along with the textbook to stay on top of the heavy workload and earn a solid grade.
Way too much work for a required community college level course. The way he grades papers is ridiculously harsh, and remarks/feedback are unhelpful. Avoid this professor at all costs.
Anytime you ask for help, he doesn't do anything. When asked if we could be given something to help with quizzes and tests, he says we learned it in class. For essay he gives little to no feedback and it doesn't make any sense. If you want a professor that genuinely cares about student success and is helpful, I recommend finding someone else.
Honestly the worst professor I have ever had. I think the good reviews here are written by him. He wants you to regurgitate what he says in lecture on his papers. All his quizzes and tests ask about pointless details from his required readings, which will take up hours of your time each week. Does not care to help students outside of class either.
If I am going to be honest, I genuinely felt repelled by this class. Not only does he make you read so much, with many found typos because it's his own work, the work you read is hard to find a quiz answer from. For some reason, a EC was due 2/26 but was actually was in April so it made no sense. I don't recommend his course but to each their own!
Professor Wuthritch is one of the best and funniest teachers I've ever had. He grades his essays very strictly, but fairly. I would HIGHLY recommend doing the extra credit, because it offers an extra 20% for the class, it will help out tremendously. The weekly readings can be tedious, but if you go through them, you will be fine.
Fantastic teacher. Lectures were very interesting to listen to and engaging. Attendance isn't mandatory and participation isn't worth much, so no stress. Almost all tests and quizzes were online, freeing up time too. Essays are extremely strict, but there are two extra credit essays that are worth an insane amount of points. Finished with a 104%
If I have one tip, it's to DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. He's a great lecturer, and all the quizzes are online, but you NEED the extra credit because he grades the essays so harshly. I was the best participating student in the class and received the highest essay grades but failed to get an A because I didn't do the extra credit. Good. Not forgiving.
Wasn't a bad professor at all. Gives all the information you need in lectures, papers are heavily graded so put in the effort. I took him during the summer. A lot of assignments but if you stay on top of it you will be fine. Otherwise decent professor, nice and willing to work with you through issues.
He lectures most of the class but frequently goes off topic.
Not good AT ALL. Expects PHD level writing for an entry level class. Lots of writing assigned which will be graded extremely harsh. The test are based on the readings, which is weird because I feel like they should be based on the lecture. Do not take this class with him!!
When I took this course my class was 6 people, he told us that attendance was mandatory so I came everyday only to find 1-2 students in the class with me, his lectures are long and boring and he will call you out if you look like you aren't paying attention. If you can get around that the course wasn't to hard all exams taken online unproctored.
Papers graded harshly and exams felt very loosely connected to the readings, like even pulling up the reading while in the test often I couldnt find the answer. besides that hes pretty chill in class and sorta funny.
I loved all of his lectures and was very entertained. If u like History you will enjoy his class. He is a tough grader but he will specifically tell you in his instructions what he wants to see in ur essays.U just have to pay extra close attention & actually listen. He cares about ur progress in the class & will try & help u if u are falling behind!
Give really good lectures, you write about 2 big papers but he gives you ample time and a lot of feedback. Doesn't really grade on attendance, it is about 3% of your final grade. Has office hours and is willing to help his students any way he can.
The extra credit is important, as the essays are very difficult and important assignments.
