Great teacher!! like the way he lecture
Definitely one of my favorite classes! Super easy class as long as you keep up with the quizzes, assignments and projects. Attendance is graded. Make sure you memorize the maps!
Great professor, Great class i feel like I learned for a short Mini summer Semester. Follow the Course Syllables and Study for the final.
This professor has a narrative teaching style that is informative but not helpful to pass. All learning is done outside of class . He makes you work for the grade and doesn't seem to like if you are only there for a credit. He seems overly confident, enjoys hearing himself talk, and sometimes you'll sense a negative attitude towards America.
Professor Buchanan is a cool guy. He's very passionate about the subject of geography and while he tends to get preachy, the classes are interesting and I feel like I get a lot out of it. He's a little disorganized, but he really wants to teach you about anything he can. Study for the tests. He's a fair grader and wants you to come to learn.
Professor Buchanan is a teacher that sure loves his subject. His lectures take up the entire period and sometimes go over. There is hardly a time when he doesn't go off topic. PowerPoints and note taking are non-existent in this class. You can ask him for help, good luck with that though. Be prepared to fend for yourself. Try to be patient.
Professor Buchanan is very passionate about his subject. His class is challenging in the sense that you have to grow on your own as a student. He's a professor who wants you to succeed, but he's going to make you work for your grade. Lectures are interesting, but this isn't a class for easy credit. He helped inspire my love for the world.
He truly cares about what he teaches; I went this summer on a study abroad trip with him. Classes were definitely different than a class setting but he makes you want to learn more. The fact that I was in the country itself made it so much better to understand what he was talking about. With that being said study for your tests and do your journals
He is an amazing Professor. He really cares about his subject.
Mr. Buchanan chooses to teach his classes narrative style by imparting information on the countries he's been to or is familiar with. I found the information to be useful on a social level. He is extremely helpful by encouraging you to stay after class if you have any questions or just want to chat. Use the study games online for the quizzes!
I took his class over the summer and it was ok. It was my first ever summer class so I wasn't use to the pace. He doesn't cram everything in all at once but you will have to work for your grade. He's kind of a tough grader but I would take him again. 3 tests each 3 hrs long though so get ready to work, but the final is a piece a cake!
Tests are online. Like 2 research papers and a field project. Warning, you do have to leave your house for the field project on your own time and present to the class. Really easy assignments if you honestly do everything and actually study. Final is online but done in lab. Really easy. He does lecture in a narrative style like someone else said.
I highly recommend this professor. He may get a little carried away in his lectures at times, but I think many people could benefit from his class. You do have to put some effort into learning the countries and the assignments, as college classes should be, but as long as you do it's an easy A.
4 map quizzes, 2 openbook chapter quizzes that were online, 2 projects - one using google earth and one u need to present to the class, and the final which is the usa/world map. i got an a in this class as it was one of the easier classes ive taken as long as u study. really recommend this teacher!!
Awesome
This was a hybrid class and I wish it had been 100% in person. He is passionate and loses track of time, but everything he teaches goes beyond maps and shows you how it relates to real life. Overall, he challenges you to see things from a new perspective and you will definitely take something from this class. Study the U.S. and world map early on.
He's a passionate teacher, this class is not easy but he wants you to love the subject as much as he does. Be sure to make it over to his office at least once in a semester. His lectures can be a bit hard to follow but his goal is to make you connect with the outside world. He is more than willing to help with projects and gives amazing feedback.
Prof Buchanan was a nice man, his assignments were simple enough. The only thing is that I feel like I didn't learn anything in this class. Throughout the entire semester he was off topic and he was forgetful. He's passionate about this subject which would explain why he lost track of time, but I didn't learn a thing from him. Kind of disappointed
Love him! He's great, I can tell how passionate he is about geography Deeply cares about the reality of climate change. Yes he gets of topic but what he talks about I found it interesting and helpful. I would take him again!
I took his class online, he was really nice and gives good feedback on your homework. The fact that was online it was hard to understand the subject. The class wasn't hard, just kinda confusing.
He tends to get off topic, though he won't admit it. There must of been three classes in a row where he only talked about the study abroad, and showed what they did. Which is fine, but it took up too much class time. I wish he'd help study the map quizzes, which if you don't do good on will really hurt your grade.
He really cares about his field of study but he essentially rambles about whatever he is passionate about that day. He is not a bad person.
For this semester this was like my blow off class back in hs. for the quizzes, I used quizlet for most of them, but the final you have to use a study guide. He almost always rambles about something in the geography world. The class was pretty easy though and he gives out this nature project which is like an easy B if you do the bare minimum.
I like Geography and thought this was going to be a slam dunk. The homework was just a lot of journal entries. The grading criteria on them was not clear at all. Based on his feedback it seemed like points were removed on journals because of his opinion of the content rather than a rubric...
This mans just rambles non stop, good guy and all but damn he can talk. 80% of the time it has nothing to do with the class. Other than that its an easy class as long as you do your work. 2 quizzes 2 tests and a cumulative final. You can wing it and youll be fine.
I took him this semester and expected the class to be hard but he made it very clear and simple. Journals every week (private discussions basically) very easy in my opinion but thought-provoking, quizzes, and chapter tests, boom simple. "textbooks" can be used on quizzes and tests i recall. overall nice & sweet professor who loves what he does!
Pretty much talked about whatever for the entire class and then we had discussions and quizzes all online. You could pretty much skip going to class in person altogether. He didn't teach a single thing from the textbook the whole semester, had to do the readings all on my own. He seems really passionate about the subject, but neglected to teach us.
I took Professor Buchanan for a summer session and he was great! The assignments are easy for the most part. Be sure you do your outline of the maps for the map quizzes. You don't need to really use the textbook except for the chapter quizzes - it is just looking at maps. He offers extra credit as well!
While Professor Buchanan will not be spoon-feeding you the textbook, he does a wonderful job of tying the class to real-world applications. His love of geography is contagious. This course is particularly fun; drone mapping in the field. Professor Buchanan even came out for a second day of mapping with me!
Awesome! He gave helpful feedback with every assignment! I always got great feedback! Map quizzes are fun! Journals are fun! He even told me what was on the final! Awesome professesr he told me what resources to use for the major project!
This class was fun, I learn a lot and was inspired with the journals we kept. I would recommend this class. The Professors loves to interact with the student, which is helpful if you need it. I would take another class by Professor Buchanan.
Really eye opening class, pretty easy class nothing too difficult- had map and chapter quizzes but are fairly easy. he is an amazing person and professor-friendly guy-ready to help and even talk about things other than school- if you are thinking about taking this class, go for it! its an interesting and important subject even if its not required
Took him for 8 week course. Four 100 question map & chapter quizzes. Final is 100 questions. Journals due every week which was 4-5 questions that was fairly easy. Definitely take him if you need this credit! Does not accept late work!
Puts a lot of effort into his teaching and cares that you do the same with your work. Requires you to actually use your brain and put thought into your journal entries; gives plenty of material aside from the book. Have questions, feel free to ask him- he is very thorough and doesn't just "cut to the chase"- he breaks it down for you.
Use the Seterra website for map memorization; it helped me a ton. The discussions were very informative, interesting and thought-provoking. The test are not the easiest. I think the wording of the questions were difficult to understand. Get the online book and read it.
If you like geography, take him in person. If taking for credit, take his class online. All assignments are online anyways and his lectures are all just stories.
Prof. Buchanan is wildly enthusiastic about his profession, and you can tell through his online classes. 8wk class consisted of weekly journals/quizzes, journals took no longer than 30 minutes to do and were very insightful. The journals within this class makes you as enthusiastic about geography as the prof. Amazing prof, I'm glad I had him.
All the coursework was super organized and clear with grading. There were quizzes, journals, and textbook exams. It was all pretty easy and he answers emails within a day or two.
Super cool guy! I loved his class. It is perfect for students with busy schedules and even better if you take it alongside one of Prof. Robert Coyle's history classes since they both worked together. Prof. Buchanan is easy to reach when you have a question, and the whole online class was a great experience! Take his class!
Easy class, there is usually a journal a week in which you basically read the prompt and give feedback on your opinion or facts about the topic. The test can be lengthy around 100 questions but they are extremely easy if you study, he gives you handouts so you can go off that. The test are not proctored, and gives great feedback as well.
The professor assigns interesting work requiring you to think for yourself and share your thoughts through weekly journals. The quiz questions come from the book and you must have the book if you want to pass the class. It is obvious that he is passionate about his profession and really wants his students to learn.
PERFECT if you are a geography fan, even if you aren't, or don't know much about geography. Took him in person. He's very interesting, and is a huge chatterbox, though in a good way. Lectures are really just him talking about something that recently came to his mind, it isn't always about geography. Amazing.
Take this Class!! If you want an easy 100, take it! But I took a hybrid 8w class and attendance was mandatory. Other than that, super easy class. All exams online, labs in class, part one of final online and the other half in class. Gives lots of extra credit! You honestly cannot fail.
I really liked this professor you could tell he really cared for his students and really tried to teach. I recommend him if you are going to take any of his classes.
All work is either writing assignments or a map quiz. The map quizzes weren't too difficult, but if you struggle w/ memorizing where countries are then you're outta luck. Most of the writing assignments were boring, and the feedback given was pretty bare-bones. His lectures are just random tangents about whatever he feels like talking about atm.
Somewhat organized material, good but not great. Tests had a lot of amusing answers thrown in for fun, there's a lot of reading, typically ~60 pages per week of a science test book, but the tests themselves were easy, and open book. Great prof, though not the best.
Professor Buchanan was a very great professor and it was very fun to learn in his class!
Very easy quizzes as long as you study. Great teacher overall!
Buchanan Buck is an excellent instructor. He breaks down the material in a way that's easy to understand, and all the homework assignments are clearly explained and straightforward to complete. He's an easy grader, very mindful of due dates, and always open to helping students. If you want a supportive and stress-free learning experience, take him!
Lectures are great and so insightful. His journals that he makes you write are also so thought evocating. its easy to get an A, dont cheat, listen to lectures, and be honest with your writing. This class and professor are easily a 8/10 and it was an 8 WK course.
