This professor had the audacity to stand in front of 300+ students and tell them all that they shouldn't be in this class and that they have no future as engineers. She reads word for word off minimally and poorly written/constructed slides and says nothing else. You would be better off reading the slides yourself at home without the teacher.
Got off to a rough start, but you know what is expected. She doesn't do much in class and posts all the slides... so you don't have to go to class. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Homework is 51% of grade! She is new to teaching so she gives a lot of grace. If you took Physics in high school then you will be fine. Tests are open note and open book!!!! :) :)
She's very new to UAH. She expects you to know the basics of physics (use Khan to brush up!). She posts slides & lectures online. Online homework heavy (50% of your grade). It's not too difficult (physics isn't easy!), but you must put your time/effort into learning the material. She's very kind & responsive to questions in-person/via email! :)
She is a nice and very helpful professor I have ever met at UAH. She understands students' difficulties. She is very good at mathematics, and you need a good mathematical background to take this course. I understood calculus after taking physics with her. She is doing hard questions during the class, and those are very helpful to learn physics.
I hated physics in high school because of the way teachers taught physics. But now I like physics and enjoy the class. Dr. Pushpawela is new to UAH, and she is my favorite professor at UAH. Her teaching style is very helpful in learning physics. She is kind, and very helpful. Be prepared to do lots of homework. She discussed HW questions in class.
Prof. Pushpawela made this class as easy as she could to get through and was very understanding. She takes student feedback and makes sure to provide opportunities to study what will be on the tests. Her lecturing skills are not the greatest, but they are okay. She posts everything online also and works lots of example problems.
Dr. Pushpawela is new to UAH. She is a very nice and calm professor. Very supportive. Her lectures are easy to understand. If you pay attention, take notes in the class, and do examples, then homework and exams are easy to answer. The grading scale is heavy on homework. The exams are from homework. Overall good professor. I would take her again.
She does not teach, her lectures are long and boring and they make me confused. She does problems in class and doesn't know the answer. She is also hard to reach outside class.
Has the tests online and open everything because she can't teach, and makes no sense in lectures. Better buy chegg
I wouldn't say I like physics, but, I enjoyed the class. The class was easy to follow and understand. Prof. Pushpawela is very kind and understanding. There is no way that you can fail her class unless you are not doing your homework. Exams are challenging, but she provides revision. Very helpful Prof. Take notes, do homework and you can get A.
Her lectures are poorly done. You'll learn more elsewhere. The homeworks are easy, though. The lab manual is hilarious. And grading for the lab isn't bad.
I had a great semester with her, and I learned good physics. She is a very helpful professor. She discussed questions in the class and provided revisions for exams. If you do your homework on time, attend a class every day, and take notes, you will get A. she is very patient and understanding. I will take her again. THANK YOU so much Professor.!
Physics labs are great. But not easy. Lot of extra credit questions. Read manuals and prepare before the labs. Dr. Pushpawela is a very fair grader. Our group got a lot of help with reports. She is very helpful and responsive. Very cool professor. Believe me, you can talk to her, she listens to her students. I would take her again.
Physics at UAH is structured poorly. PH 115 lab class is challenging and very difficult for many of us. Professor understands this and is always willing to help. I went to her office hours every week to get help for lab reports. She was very helpful. If you are confused about something and meet her during office hours, she explains things well.
Hands down the best physics professor at UAH. One of the best professors I've ever had. Do whatever you can to get into her class. She responds to emails, does test review, and actually teaches.
Professor Pushpawela is not familiar with the content enough to teach in an understanding way. The class itself is easy to pass, but not a lot of physics was learned for me personally. She does respond to emails, but is not much help in explaining questions or answers. Lectures consists of mainly just practicing homework problems.
Dr. Pushpawela is a good professor, & she took students' feedback seriously. She explained the concepts and dived right into problems, which helped me understand applying concepts to physics problems. If you're confused about the material, go to her office, and she will explain in greater detail. Follow the notes and do the homework, you can get A.
Ignore the people who took her and still got an A who still want to give her a bad rep. She makes it so easy to get an A in the class, how in the world do you give her a bad rating because of it?? What I will harp on, is the lab TA Matthew. This dude thinks he's a professor and grades unnecessarily hard for a physics 101 lab. He's a joke.
I personally just don't like physics so I found this course either extremely easy or hard to understand based on the lesson; the lectures were not way too helpful as it mostly consisted of doing homework problems rather than focusing more on understanding the content.
Physics is not easy. However, I like the way Dr. Pushpawela is doing this class. Class is not purely theory-based, and she teaches the theory and then discusses examples. It helped me understand the application and guided me to solve problems. If she doesn't show the examples, I can't think of connecting so many equations. Thank you Professor.!
Dr. Pushpawela is one of the best professors in the physics department. I am taking her class, and it is the best decision I made. Her exams are not easy, but all the problems are variations of homework and class work. She discusses examples, and that is very helpful. She is very helpful and very patient teacher. Highly recommended to take.
She is sweet and knows what she's doing. I signed up for her because I didn't pass the course with another professor. Exams were easy if you could do the class examples and homework. She didn't try to kill students with homework or quizzes. She discussed selected homework questions in the class. The class was very straightforward.
Dr. Pushpawela is a great teacher. She was able to teach far better than most of my previous professors. Lectures cover everything and they're understandable. 4 exams, including finals. First 3 exams have ten questions and are based on homework. Does give partial credits on tests. She's always available for help. Highly recommend her to everyone.
I am taking PH 112 with Dr. Pushpawela and I highly recommend her. she is very nice and willing to help you with anything you need. I had her for PH 111, and she was able to teach far better than most other professors at UAH physics. If you're good at Math already she is an easy choice. If you struggle, she will help you back on your feet again.
The lectures are awful!!! The homeworks are mostly easy, though. No real instruction or assistance is given.
I dont know why students give bad ratings. She is one of the best teachers I've ever had. She provided all resources (notes, homework examples, and reviews) that you need to do well in the class. She cares and wants to help students as much as she can to understand the material. Revision classes were always helpful. I strongly recommend taking her.
I had Dr.Pushpawela for PH 101 and PH 102; she's fantastic. She truly wants everyone to do well in her class. Her exams are not easy, but you can get an A, if you pay attention in lectures and do HW to learn the material. She cares about students' grades and provides everything you need to pass the class.
She makes the class not stressful. I'm a bio major and I don't like physics at all and it was an easy course to pass.
Dr. Pushpawela, Thank you for all you have done for PH 102. The way you handled the issues at finals today showed your patience and how much you care about students. The other professor from CME (don't know her name) was very rude and unprofessional, and she yelled at us for what we hadn't done. I am glad I got you as my physics professor at UAH.
PH 101 and 102 are not easy for biology majors, and I think the way Dr. Pushpawela teaches the course makes life less stressful. She discussed a lot of examples and showed us how the concept applies to questions. Provide good notes and does revisions; She is responding to emails on time. She is a very good teacher. I would recommend her.
She was a pretty good professor. But the workload for PH 112 was heavy. Your grade definitely reflects how much effort you put into that class. She was very helpful and made the class fairly understandable. Sometimes she lectures a little quickly, but, overall she is a wonderful and kind professor. I would highly recommend her.
Super nice person in general. She is dedicated to student success and will do her absolute best to make sure you understand. The tests are challenging, but the homework prepares you, and there are lots of partial credits on the tests. I went from struggling to grasp physics to the top of the class. She is one of the kindest people Ive ever met.
Dr. Pushpawela is a wonderful professor! She truly cares about her students and wants you to succeed / get the most out of this class! Attending class really helped me understand the material more, and she always is willing to answer questions. This was my second semester with Dr. Pushpawela and I absolutely would recommend taking her for physics!
Great new professor at UAH. Teaches physics well through the use of many example problems. Always willing to explain and help students with difficult homework assignments. Gives a review before the test. She isn't an easy A; she makes you want to put in the effort to do well. And she is very friendly and kind professor. I highly recommend her.
Physics 112 is a hard class, but Dr. Pushpawela made it much easier than I expected to understand the material. She prepares you well for tests, she'll answer any emails you might have, and if you go to her during office hours, she'll take the time to explain everything to you and answer all your questions. Amazing prof!!
I'll give it to you frankly. This class sucks. There's tons of homework and she's not good at actually teaching. That being said she's really good at CARING. She is the most caring teacher I've ever had. She wants so badly for everyone to succeed. If you're good at teaching yourself I would suggest this teacher. Do the homework=pass
Took both PH 111 and PH 112 with Dr. Pushpawela. PH 112 moves faster than PH 111, but she does as much as possible to make it understandable. Classes were not easy, and you're gonna have to do the work, and you have more than enough resources to pass the course. Overall, one of the best professors I've had at UAH.
I had Dr.Pushpawela for PH 111 and PH 112. She is very helpful and gives an understandable lecture. Homework is easy because she did a few example problems identical in difficulty in class. Take notes, keep up with homework to study for tests. Tests were fair, and she gives partial credits. By far one of the best professors I have had at UAH.
Compared to other professors at UAH, Dr. Pushpawela does honest hard work. She deserves more than 5. She explains the material well and discusses tons of examples in class. She is very helpful. It's a shame that UAH physics is so horrible that she isn't our physics lab teacher. The horrible TA Maththew made this course bad, not Dr. Pushpawela.
Professor Pushpawela is a great physics instructor! She cares about her students and very straightforward. 10/10 recommend!
Dr. Pushpawela is one of the most involved professors with her students that I have encountered at UAH. She truly cares that you understand what she is teaching and that you are completing the necessary tasks. She covers the material in a step-by-step manner both in theory and practice, which makes learning very efficient and easier.
I loved Dr. Pushpawela's class. Material was challenging, as it is physics 112. However, I always felt that Professor gave her best efforts to explain the material clearly and provide adequate resources for practice. She was willing to explain/go over any questions. She's super nice person ! Very helpful & available for assistance outside class.
Dr. P taught me 101 in fall 2021 (her first semester at UAH) and 102 in spring 2022. Attendance was not strictly required for us. Her lectures could drag on, but she did an excellent job listening to student feedback and altering course pace and structure to help us learn. She's a wonderful sweet lady and wanted to see all of us succeed.
Dr Pushpawela has a good class structure, so you can easily learn from lectures and examples. She was really good, especially for someone who isn't the best at physics! She was kind and always willing to help students. Attend the class, take notes, do the work, and you will do fine in this class. UAH physics should hire professors like her.
Physics is hard, no matter what professor you have. You must put in a lot of effort to do well. I attended every lecture & revision classes, did in-class practice problems & homework on time. Dr. Pushpawela was a very caring and nice instructor and wanted students to succeed in the course. The class is extremely fair. Would recommend her to anyone.
Dr. Pushpawela is a clear choice when taking any physics class. For PH 111, I had Dr. Chronis and got a C. With Dr. Pushpawela, I took PH 112 and got an A-. Maybe I should've taken Dr. Pushpawela for PH 111. Her lectures are well structured and easy to understand. Discussed Examples in the class and did reviews before exams. Super nice instructor !
I had Dr. Pushpawela for PH 111 & PH 112. Class is by no means easy; however, she is one of the best professors I've ever had. Lectures are straightforward, grading criteria are clear, & the revision helps the exam. Her notes are the best for people with little background in physics. She teaches at a nice pace, goes over the problems step by step!
I am a bio major & I don't like physics at all. Dr. P makes the class not stressful. She should be your option if you have to take intro physics. She cares a lot about her class and students. She gives students the necessary tools to learn effectively. Pay attention in lectures, do homework, & in-class problems. I would recommend her to anyone.
One of the fewer professors that above & beyond to help students. She knows what she's doing, and she is very compassionate to her students and their outcomes in the class. The way her class is formatted in terms of how homework and exams are actually corelated is fantastic. She makes it easy to learn the material and goes at a reasonable pace.
She is fantastic; I highly suggest taking her. She is super understanding and will help you with any questions you have; she's very sweet. She gives you a detailed study guide for the final and prepares you pretty well, and her tests are straight from the homework. As long as you do your homework, you'll pass.
Professor is kind, understanding and available for extra help if needed. You will be fine if you attend class and do the homework. She also does test reviews, which help prepare for the tests. She cares and goes into detail to make sure students understand the lesson. Physics is a hard subject, but with her teaching style, you'll learn a lot.
I had Dr. Pushpawela for PH 111 and PH 112. Genuinely one of the best professors I've had at UAH. Physics is very hard, but Dr. P makes it easy to understand. Tests are fair. She is very straightforward with what you need to know, so study what she goes over in lecture & make sure you understand the variations. She is super nice & very helpful.
Dr. Pushpawela is an excellent teacher that cares about the students. She provides reviews & is extremely helpful during office hours. Physics is challenging, so you can't come into class thinking it will be easy. You'll have to work to comprehend the material to pass the exams. Tests are similar to questions she goes over. Recommend her to anyone.
Physics LABS are the worst-run department at UAH. Dr. Chronis' manuals are horrible, and the lab section with TA Mohammad Okour is even worse. He doesn't know physics, barely speaks English, and NEVER returns graded lab reports ON TIME. Sadly, lab grades affect PH 101 because Dr. Pushpawela uses 25% of lab contributions to final grades.
Professor Pushpawela cares about her students and wants them to do well. The only reason I didn't receive an A was the 25% brought in from the lab. The lab is difficult and confusing, so strap in.
Dr. Pushpawela is an amazing teacher; her lectures are filled with examples that allow you to understand the material. A lot of homework. The problem with this course is physics labs, and Dr. Chronis's manual makes the labs horrible. Very confusing lab manuals. Lab grade depends on your TA, and in the end, lab grade affects overall course grade.
Dr. Pushpawela is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I learned a lot in her class. The material is difficult, so you must attend class, pay attention, and ask questions. But, make sure to register with a good lab TA because it will decide your final grade. Don't register with Mohammad Okour. He is the worst TA in PH 101.
One of my favorite professors at UAH. Physics is hard, but Dr. Pushpawela teaches physics concepts and discusses practice questions in each chapter. The practice problems are what helped me the most. Study and learn the concepts and learn how to do all problems and you'r set four exams, including finals. She is always available if you need help.
Dr. Pushpawela is a good teacher. She is very helpful, & the lectures are very clear. Homework is not bad. Attend the lectures, take notes, and do the exercises with her in class. Tests are hard, but if you attend the classes and study hard, you will be fine. Not an easy A without effort. She is friendly and patient. Would recommend her to anyone.
Dr. Pushpawela is by far my favorite professor at UAH. Her lectures were always informative. While the material is not easy, she makes it manageable with fair homework and reflective exams (review the practice problems!). Overall, IMO if you attend class, you are likely to do well in her course. Very approachable, would def take her again.
Professor Pushpawela is one of the most effective professors I have ever met. She keeps the subject interesting while providing students with practice problems that reflect the material. Tests are fair, but definitely have to study. She's available to students that need extra help & cares about doing her job well. If possible, definitely take her.
The reason for giving an average rating is physics labs; she needs to assign good lab manuals and knowledgeable and productive TAs. Chronis wrote the lab manuals, which are confusing to read and off the pace with what we learn in the lectures. Labs require 12-15 hours a week, which is too much. Labs are more complicated than lectures.
I am a bio major, & I don't like physics. I took PH 101 with Dr. Pushpawela and now taking PH 102 with her. She is doing a fantastic job as an intro physics teacher, and she provided good notes and made all the resources available. What I like most in the class are JiTT and application discussion. Very effective teacher. Would recommend anyone.
The only negative thing about PH 102 is that the Physics labs are awful. Dr. Chronis's labs were horrendously bad. Some lab questions were not true questions, and TA created some questions for us to answer. Some of Chronis's lab quiz answers were wrong, and I didn't receive points back which is very unfair. UAH needs to fix physics labs.
Dr. Pushpawela is a fantastic teacher who is focused on student learning and success. I have enjoyed learning about theory in class-problem solving collaborative approach to physics. She explained things in a way that some with a non-math brain understand. She was one of the best teachers that I have had at UAH.
I took PH 101 with Professor Pushpawela. She is one of the best professors I have had at UAH. She was great about making sure we understood the content and helping us through examples and homework problems. I am not a huge fan of physics, but she made this class more enjoyable and easily understandable. Overall a great teacher.
UAH strongly needs to revise all physics labs and manuals. Chronis's manuals are garbage & not worth the paper that it is printed on. All are poorly written and very confusing. His quizzes were marked with incorrect answers, and we were penalized for his errors. Unfortunately, labs are part of the course led by Dr. P and affect overall grades.
Dr. Pushpawela is a phenomenal instructor! She is one of the best and nicest professors I have ever had at UAH. She truly cares about her students & wants us to succeed while enjoying physics at the same time. She understands that physics is a difficult subject & therefore takes the time to explain everything clearly. Recommend her to anyone.
Dr. Pushpawela is a fantastic teacher who is focused on student learning and success. Attend the class, take notes, do the homework, and you will do fine in this course. She discussed problems in class. She knows the subject well and is easy to talk to when help is needed. In my opinion, she is one of the best teachers that I have had at UAH.
Dr. Pushpawela is one of the best teachers I've had at UAH. She is good at teaching. She is a nice & thoughtful professor. Sadly, some students were rude to her. She puts good notes on Canvas & goes over problems. Class is not an easy A, but if you follow instructions and work hard you should be able to get a good grade. Would recommend her.
Dr. Pushpawela is the best physics professor at UAH. I had her for both PH101 and 102. She is a fair grader and posts all the lecture slides on Canvas so you can look at them again later. Just make sure you actually go to class.
Overall, she makes the class as easy as physically possible. I would definetly prefer her as a professor over anyone in the physics department, and would recommend her to everyone required to take physics 101 and 102. She even rounded my grade at the end of last semester when I had a 79 because of my terrible TA for the lab.
I came into this class with a deep hatred for physics, & this professor changed that. Her teaching style is great, and tests and questions are set up for students to succeed. She genuinely cares about her students. Unfortunately, a set of students were rude to her and distracted the class. Overall, she is a really good professor.
One of the best teachers I've had here at UAH. You can tell she really cares about the subject. Puts all her notes online and goes over problems in class. Fair grader. Willing to help outside class. She makes physics less miserable and more interesting. If you have her an option, take her.
Dr. Pushpawela is one of the best & kind professors I've ever had. She truly cares about students and grades. A few students in my class are unkind to her for absolutely no reason; please don't be that person. She tries to understand where you are and helps you from there. Attend the classes, take notes, & work on assignments; you should be fine.
An excellent professor of physics makes everything very easy to understand. She cares about students, is extremely intelligent, and is one of the youngest and newest professors in the physics dep. When it came to teaching, she was so dedicated to it & would always be open to help when a student was struggling. Would certainly recommend her.
Dr. P is an amazing professor. She is very helpful, and patient and wants to make sure students understand. Solid and clear explanations. During the lecture, she provides much more detail on the slides, which you need to take notes over because you will be tested on them later. If you skip lecture, you will be lost on the tests. Would recommend!
This was my favorite class this semester despite the material being pretty difficult. Dr. Pushpawela was super understanding, patient, and definitely wants you to learn and pass. The homework is hard but she discusses examples during lectures. She is always willing to lend a hand. Would recommend her to anyone.
Loved her; she was one of my favorite professors. The final exam is a bit hard, but based on what she taught in the class. You must attend the classes and take notes carefully to earn a good grade. A great example of a professor who truly cares about students. Would recommend her to anyone.
I enjoyed her class and I understand physics much better! Her explanations are very clear and you always know why something was wrong. Willing to help everyone understand. Very patient. She's not one of those professors you feel like you can't ask questions. She's one of those people who are so obviously meant to be teachers. If you can take her.
One of the best teachers I've ever had; She is extremely knowledgeable and approachable. Very good at teaching difficult concepts in ways students can fundamentally understand. Her notes and lectures are fantastic. The final was hard, but she gave me a great foundation for physics problem-solving. Take her if you get a chance.
Hear me out: she is the best physics professor for introductory level. Physics is a hard subject itself, but her lectures are so comprehensive. She cares about her students and has several grade repair options during the semester. If you want to survive physics, she is literally the best option at UAH. Make sure you attend the classes, lifesaver!
Dr. Pushpawela is a great professor & is dedicated to her students. She provided good notes, explained concepts thoroughly, & made them easy to understand. Discussed complex examples in class. Some classes have in-class participation questions that are graded, so you will need to attend lectures. Mid-exams are easy but beware the final is tough.
Physics is a really hard concept to grasp, especially with all the math involved, but Dr. P walks you through everything step by step. Attendance is not mandatory, but I recommend attending class regularly if you want a decent grade. Final was pretty challenging. Overall, She is one of the best professors I have had at UAH. Recommended.
This professor really cares if you learn. She is different from other physics professors at UAH. She asks thought-provoking questions. a breath of fresh air. no rote memorization. She wants you to learn and understand and seems dedicated to your success. Provide good notes and discuss very complex examples. Very helpful.
She failed me once but the second time I got it! LOL Just make sure you do your work.
If you have never taken a physics class ever, this is the professor and class for you. If you're struggling, she makes sure to give you the time you feel satisfied with to help you feel confident in the material. Clear lectures, provides many examples, and lenient grader as well. Best professor you can have for intro physics, no doubt about it.
I would recommend taking Dr. P if at all possible. Physics itself is a hard course, but she makes it better. Lectures and notes are extremely helpful. She understands students who think physics is scary and helps them through it.
This was the first physics class I had taken. It's obvious Prof. Pushpawela loves what she's doing and really wants students to understand the material. We went over harder problems in class. Information was conveyed well. The only problem is the challenging final. Overall, a very good choice.
Dr. P is a really great professor, definitely take her if possible! The subject is hard but she does an amazing job of helping you to understand it and provides you everything you need to succeed in the class. Final is hard, but pay attention and do the homework and you will be fine. Much better than other intro physics professors at UAH.
This is my favorite course at UAH so far. Dr. P is a marvelous teacher who respects students who present clear ideas and opinions, even if they contradict what she believes. She has a good research network, and does a very good job of running the class, providing a lot of information about various research fields. Take her class you won't be sorry.
I didn't have any physics background, but Dr. Pushpawela explains the information fairly well. You do have to review it because it's a lot to take in, and you cannot learn it by just watching the lectures and taking notes. You have to work on the class examples. She provides practice exams. Overall, she is a very good intro physics professor.
Dr. Pushpawela is a great teacher. Class is challenging but she is very helpful. You have to pay attention and ask questions if you get lost. She'll do her best to clear it up for you. The problem of PH101 is Physics LABS controlled by Chronis. He doesn't help you understand material. Unfortunately, 25% of the final grade is from horrible labs.
Dr. Pushpawela made me actually interested in science for the first time. Loved this class !
Dr. P is cool and would take any of her classes. She cares about helping students learn the material and be successful in the classroom. Attendance is critical - Practice exams, homework, and in-class questions, which matter - Her class is not necessarily easy, but if you have any interest at all in physics & put in the effort you'll get an A.
Pushpawela does a decent job of making a boring class (PH 110) interesting for students, especially if there is an in-person speaker. There is a fair amount of writing in this class and a big group project that is 30% of the grade, but none of it was too difficult. Overall, as an Engineer minoring in Physics, I had a good experience in her class.
Dr. Pushpawela is a great teacher, she cares about the student's learning and interests and seems to really love what she does. The only class I've ever enjoyed in college! If you need a science credit take this class!
This is a truly awesome class. I learned so much about research, and it was actually useful. Class isn't mandatory, but there are writing assignments pretty much every week that you need so you should attend. A group project is somewhat challenging but it is worth it. Honestly love physics now that I actually understand it.
Dr. Pushpawela is an awesome professor. She made it really easy to learn the material in this course. The lectures are interesting. 15 homework assignments, 3 mid-exams, and the final. No extra credits. She provided practice exams and reviews before the finals. The final exam was difficult, but it was my favorite class.
Dr.P was inspiring and really opened my eyes to physics. Be prepared to come to class every day and take notes. HW assignments are based on talks. If you put up a decent effort and actually do your HW you will get a good grade. You'll also make some friends in this class because there is a group project. 30% of the final grade is from the project.
Be prepared to listen & take a LOT of notes every class meet. Every day you have a professional in the field who gives a lecture on their area, & the homework is on one of the lectures that week, so take notes for every one. Does not really give feedback on homework, but is a very sweet & passionate person. Definitely recommend her class.
A good teacher and clearly knows what she's talking about. This class didn't have much direct teaching. Her grading scale is heavy on homework and a group project. I would suggest her to anyone.
Dr.P cares about you understanding the material. If physics is hard or foreign to you, Dr. P will do a great job of helping you understand the material. She is constantly trying to improve how she teaches and wants everyone to do well in her class. She is helpful and provides good notes. Exams & homework are difficult, but its my favorite class.
The only class I've ever enjoyed in college! Dr. P is a good teacher who made physics interesting and accessible to non-science majors. She truly wants you to succeed and as long as you attend the class there is very little outside work needed to do well. I would recommend her class to anyone.
Dr. Pushpawela is an awesome professor. She is very knowledgeable about everything she teaches. She cares about her students. This class has 15 homework assignments, quizzes, 3 exams, and a final. Homework is helpful for the 3 exams. The final is hard. But, if you attend the Zoom sessions, you should get a good grade. I loved this class.!
This is the best class I've ever taken at the UAH. Most people say the class is difficult but Dr.P makes it so interesting and easy to learn. Got an A. 100 % recommend this class it will change your life. She is the most helpful and motivating teacher I've ever had in my entire life.
Dr. Pushpawela is that one professor that you'll never forget after you graduate.
Dr. P is a Great Professor! I had her for Physics 110, 111,112, and 113. and I wished she taught more courses. She provides very good class notes which I found super helpful. She also discusses examples in the class. The two exams and the final were fair. She is very kind and caring with students. Please take her if you can.
Dr. Pushpawela always made sure to go back over the material if someone had a question. This is one of the first times in a class that I've felt enabled to ask questions in a stress-free environment. She always paused to ask if we understood a new topic. The exams were fair, too. Take her if you can.!
Dr. Pushpawela is a great professor. She does a great job teaching hard material. She did well preparing the students for exams. Her thorough breakdown of example problems in class was a necessity! The homework content was sufficient, but the quantity was too much -15 q per week. You will get a good grade if you do the homework and class examples.
Really did not like how she grades and communicates with her student. She is very smart but se has weird expectations on her student
I don't know the person ahead of me talking about-someone probably from a group who didn't perform well. Dr. P is a very fair grader. When she deducted points, she explained the reason in every homework. She used a rubric and explained why she deducted points for our projects. She helped a lot with our project. Most of my classmates agreed with me.
I really liked having Dr. Pushpawela. The class consists of many writing assignments (seven) and a group project. She is a very fair grader—her grading criteria are very clear. She gives great feedback. If you do the work, you'll pretty much get full credit. She will ask very good physics questions about your project, so you need to be prepared.
If you do the work, this class is exceptionally easy. Clear communication and expectations and she is always quick to respond to emails. Show up to class and do the work and it is an easy "A".
Amazing professor—the Best I've had. Dr. Pushpawela is very nice. She helped a lot with our project despite not being in her field. She remembered everyone's names in a big classroom and created a nice environment. She made me reconsider my major in physics. I recommend her to anyone.
She was very clear about her expectations and is very kind
Dr. Pushpawela does an excellent job of making the subject interesting. She provided numerous examples, which made the material much easier to understand. Attendance is crucial. We had 13 homeworks, 3-exams, and a paper-based finals. Lectures are recorded, and class notes are posted online, making reviewing the material outside of class easier.
Prof P is an engaging lecturer who brings in industry experts. The workload is manageable with a group project and weekly assignments. Unstuck study was a great study tool alongside the lectures.
Dr Pushpawala and the whole physics department needs to be re-examined. Her tests and quizzes were vastly different from class material and homework assignments. It seems she simply gave students what they needed to pass the class to avoid having students repeat the course, not caring if we learn the material or not.
Dr. Pushpawela is a good professor. While the topics she covers can be challenging, she makes them easy to understand. I took PH 110 and 111 with her and am currently taking 113. I've always looked forward to her classes. The course includes homework, quizzes, two midterms, & a final. Notes & recordings are available for review, which helps a lot.
Dr. Pushpawela listens to students and provides class notes, recordings, and plenty of opportunities to learn the material. She discusses questions during class and is a very friendly teacher. This class makes you comfortable asking questions, & you may find Dr. P to be a remarkable improvement over Du Le. I would recommend her to anyone.
I was hesitant to take this class, since I had previously dropped it with different professor due to difficulty. However, with Dr. P, things have been much easier to grasp. She explains concepts in simple terms, uses analogies that make the material more relatable. She records lectures & shares notes, which makes it much easier to study for exams.
If you can, take her. Lectures are very clear & covers everything you need to know. Exams are based on material she teaches in class, so you won't be tested on anything she hasn't covered. While she's not the quickest to respond to emails due to busy schedule with 4 classes, she is open to answering questions during office hours. Great professor.!
Basically just listening to different physicists present about their area of physics. Lots of papers but easy to write if you use outside sources rather than relying on your lecture notes and follow the rubric as an outline. Would have rated higher if she hadn't given out many failing grades on our final group projects with absolutely no feedback.
I'm not sure who the person ahead of me is talking about, but Dr. Pushpawela provided feedback for homework assignments. She opened a 1-week window to meet & discuss feedback on project reports. Our group met with her, and we received helpful feedback. She took the time to explain the reasons behind each point deduction, which was very informative.
Dr. P provided feedback for every homework and final project. I'm not sure why some students are spreading false information. I am aware of at least five groups that met with her, received detailed explanations regarding point deductions for project. Homework contributes 70%. If you don't submit your homework, you will end up with a poor grade.
Dr. Pushpawela is a welcome change. If you've made it past Chronis, Dr. P will be amazing in hindsight. She provided notes before the class and also made recordings available. The exams are based on the material covered in class. It's definitely worth taking a class with her.
I don't understand why the Physics Department can't have Dr. P handle both the lectures and labs for 101/102. I have good grades for homework & exams, which are part of Dr. P's lectures, but my lab grades, which are with Chronis, are poor, and that's bringing down my GPA. The labs are really difficult- even my lab TA can't understand the questions.
Taking this class with Dr. P has been a huge relief after previously failing it with a different instructor. Her clear teaching, patience, support, especially during office hours, helped me truly understand the material & improve my grades. She's incredibly dedicated, & having a TA would be a great HELP to her given how much she does for students.
101/102 labs have consistently been a source of confusion and frustration for both students and TAs. Lab manuals are poorly written with unclear questions; even the TA finds it difficult to interpret them. Labs impact grades. I wonder why Dr. Pushpawela, who effectively handles the lecture portion, can't also take over the labs from Chronis.
After taking the class with Dr. Pushpawela, I realized how much I had missed in my previous 113. Earlier instructor didn't cover the subject sufficiently, but Dr. P provided thorough explanations, referenced multiple textbooks, and gave a complete, well-organized set of notes. This made a significant difference in my understanding of the material.
The finals were tough but fair. One-third of the questions were similar to those practiced in class. The conceptual part was more challenging, but Dr. P had mentioned that questions would come from her notes, so I focused on those while preparing. Lectures & finals are linked, and the class is way better than when I took it with another professor.
Dr. Pushpawela is one of the best physics professors I've had. I waited a year to take her for 113 and got an A-. The final had two parts: concepts were challenging, but working problems were similar to class with a few twists. She doesn't reuse homework, so study smart. She also shares Part 2 topics, which help you focus your prep.
I failed this class before with Dr. Le, but this time I passed with a B+. More importantly, I actually learned the material. Dr. Pushpawela put together excellent notes from multiple advanced textbooks, which are really helpful for reviewing later. If she teaches PH 351, I'm 100% signing up. Hats off to her - a dedicated professor who truly cares.
Dr. P is an excellent prof. Although physics was initially challenging, her clear explanations, structured lectures, & supportive approach made the material easier to understand. Success in her courses requires following instructions closely and consistent effort. I attended every class, utilized office hours when needed, & earned an A in 101/102.
Dr. Pushpawela is much better than Dr. Le. I hope she continues teaching the course for both semesters. Though her office hours are often full, understandable given her four-course load. She responds quickly to emails and resolves questions efficiently. She provided a well-organized note set and recordings, which were very helpful.
I have no complaints regarding the lectures. They were clear and informative. However, I gave a rating of 4.0 because of the poor quality of the labs. The 102 lab TAs, Okur and Juliet, seemed to lack a solid understanding of the physics involved and could not explain the concepts properly. It felt as though TAs needed to take the course themselves.
This is not the fault of Dr. P. 101/102 labs were very disappointing. Why does the Physics department continue to hire TAs who are not adequately prepared or knowledgeable? It's concerning that Dr. Chronis does not address these long-standing issues. Many students received lower overall grades. I hope the lab weight is reduced to lessen its impact.
I received an A in both PH 101/102. I attended all classes and went to office hours when I had questions about homework/labs. I followed the professor's advice closely. I printed the lecture notes ahead of time and filled in the gaps during class, as recommended. Physics Tutors/TAs weren't helpful; the best approach is to go directly to professor.
One of the most willing professors I've had when it comes to taking time to explain where I could improve my work. Dr. P was extremely thoughtful & focused the class on introducing complex concepts in an accessible way. Juliette was unhelpful. Several of my reports had to be regraded by Dr. Chronis, which says a lot about TA's lack of competence.
Dr. P is a very friendly & kind professor. Throughout the semester, she was extremely understanding & supportive, especially knowing that I was working full-time while studying during the summer. She helped me a lot in balancing my work & class responsibilities. I truly appreciate her helpfulness & encouragement. Would love to take her class again!
Took online via zoom. Lectures were great and she gave lots of examples. There were some opportunities to extra credit/work; she really wants you to pass the class and understand physics.
This is a class for freshman, but be prepared to defend your group project like you are defending your PhD thesis. She is way too harsh on students. She asks senior level questions in front of 70 other students and if you don't have the answer then you get hammered by her. It was painful to watch.
Physics is challenging subject, but this professor made it much more manageable. She provided class notes and recordings,& worked through the examples during the class, which really helped. I attended most of office hours, and she was always patient and supportive. Only negative part is lab which wasn't her responsibility. Overall good class.
I am not sure what the Nov 23rd post is about. Dr. P has been a very fair grader. My group scored 78/80, and her questions were clear and reasonable. If you didn't know an answer, she allowed us to submit answer after presentation & even stayed after class to help. If you put in real effort, she is fair. Don't blame teacher for not doing your work.
The HARDEST 100 level class out there. I had to write a paper on quantum mechanics during my first few weeks of school (with limited physics knowledge).
While this class is available to freshman, DO NOT. It's very physics-heavy, you'll want some beginner physics classes first. Buddhi has guest lectures teach EVERYTHING, and when she teaches it's awful. Material is advanced and the lecturers are not helpful/accessible for questions, and neither is Buddhi. There were only 5 assignments.
I took PH 111, 113, 110 with Dr. P, and got A's in all three classes. I got a 35/40 on the last assignment and 74/80 on the project. I attended all classes, took notes, while most students didn't attend and weren't aware of what was going on. If you work hard, you'll get a good grade. She even went through our slides and helped us to improve them.
The lectures by Professor Pushpawela were clear and informative, but the lab component, overseen by Professor Chronis, faced challenges. Limited TA support and unclear rubrics made the labs difficult to navigate, which negatively impacted my overall grade. Lab TA didn't grade the reports on time or didn't reply to emials.
Professor Pushpawela is a very fair grader and one of the best physics instructor I've had. I greatly appreciated the fascinated research talks we had. The final grade is composed of 70% from seven assignments and 30% for the project. Extra credit is available for project report. Recommended for anyone serious about leaning physics research.
Dr. P was an awesome professor to work with. Although I had some struggles with parts of the class, she was open to providing feedback for any questions I had throughout the semester. Would take again.
One of the best teachers I've had. Two exams and a challenging final with plenty of partial credit. If you attend class and work through her examples, it's an easy A. She even held three extra classes to finish the syllabus; truly responsible and dedicated teacher. Highly recommended her if you want to learn physics.
Not an easy final exam yet definitely doable if you attended classes and worked through her examples. Attendance is a key to a good grade. The partial credit makes scoring much easier. The only downside is labs, which she doesn't control. Hats off to a great professor! Looking forward to taking 102 with her.
Very strict, but a good teacher. But I would rather avoid taking her again.
Dr. Pushpawela is an amazing professor; she cares about her students, and she will do everything she can to help students succeed in her class. Definitely attend class as she goes over problems that might show up on the first two exams. She provides partial credit on the final exam and is very lenient with grading, learn those free body diagrams!
The class was challenging, but Dr. Pushpawela was very supportive of my learning, and she always helped me whenever I was stuck on a physics subject. I highly recommend this teacher to anyone interested in learning physics.
