She is smart but definitely not a good teacher. Her teaching approach is not a good style. She can't deliver the informations very well to her students. Her tests are hard as hell!
Just like above, she is incredibly hard to learn anything from and her tests are just the worst, my only advice for anyone taking this teacher is to have no other classes to study for and just memorize every page or two out of the book. My suggestion, GOTO MESA FOR BIOLOGY 210A MAYBE BETTER!

DR. HAIDAR....where do I even begin...she knows the information, but cannot properly get the information out to others. Her english isn't the greatest and she is kind of rude. Labs, are stupid as hell, our first lab was aerobic exercises on a stepper!! WTF?? I highly do NOT recommend her.
She is extremely hard. Her lectures are unclear. Her tests are hard as well as the labs. She is very critical and bias in her grading. She does not drop or curve anything. Sometimes she gives bonus points on the test but it doesn't do any good. The labs are ridiculous and time consuming.
Just like the above person. She is very hard. There are 4 exams, 1 midterm, and 1 final. Her midterm and final are cumulative. She is very strict and stingy in her grading. It is hard to earn points even when you read the labs ahead of time. Never expect to get the maximum points in labs; only 70%.
just kidding...do yourself a favor and take this course at mesa. none of the professors at miramar can decently teach this course.
knows her stuff and tests almost 100% on lecture material. If you have half a brain and can pay attention the tests and quizzes are no problem. Many labs seem pointless at the end because the results are hard to acheive. however, she will review and explain. I give her a 4.0 if you don't have ADD.
Poorly structured class. She doesn't prepare us well for the difficulty of the tests. She gives no reviews or review sheets for any of the tests/final. Her lectures are far too vague and far too scattered - virtually useless as test preparation. Beware of this class.
She does a good job, very helpful if you approach her. She can seem slightly callous at first but she's not at all. Very nice person/good teacher that loves Biology. She hands out notes, the book is the #1 resource for her class. Just read it before her tests.
Biology is always a hard subject. If you want to learn, you can gain a lot from her. Expect a lot of work, but she is very helpful. She dedicates her time to teach.
Boring lectures! Cannot teach for shizzo! Her accent makes it even more difficult to understand her confusing and long lectures! BORING and STRICT on grading.
This teacher was no good. She has a gnarly accent so u really cant understand her. I was just in her lab class and she still lectured for hours. I used to like labs but she made them boring. Her tests are HARD and she is a harsh grader. Thank god i only had her for lab.
Her class is not easy! Yes, it is true, she is very strict in grading your assignments. If you want to learn more about biology, you definitely need to take her class. She is very helpful, if you need to extra help, just go to her office hour. She will explain every single little things. I just finished her class and I learnt a lot from her!
she was very unclear about things. would lecture us on things that didnt deal with the lab. poor quality lab teacher.
Good class but hard. She will give you lecture notes where you fill in the blanks during lecture and that will give you the answers to the homework and you can bring a half sheet of paper of notes to lecture quizes but not on the midterm and final. She is very clear on what she expects. If you can, get a different lab teacher though.
It's a tough class and she grades pretty fairly. A lot of tests, so prepare to spend a lot of time studying. If you have questions about anything, talk to her, she is very happy to help with anything.
She is a very hard working teacher who loves her subject. This is a difficult, information-packed class. You can bring half a sheet of notes to the lecture tests, but no notes for the mid-term or final. Overall, I enjoyed her lecture, but I hated lab. She always lectured during the lab and we rarely got out early.
one of the hardest teachers i have ever had! she is very unclear in her teaching. she teaches like you already know the subject and she has a very thick accent. there are two quizes every class. found the lab useless in helping me understand the lecture section. however, she is a very nice person. she is just not a good professor.
This is a TOUGH class w/ lots of material to cover! She teaches fairly and gives each student an equal chance to succeed. Bottom line is you MUST work hard to recieve a good grade, but it's the subject matter NOT the teacher who is difficult
This class is hard! She goes really fast through the lecture thinking everyone knows it already. She assumes most read the book before class. Thus, I really have to read the book, maybe 2x to get it myself. You wont get out of lab early, maybe 5 mins. Answering the study guides wont do it for the exams. You have to understand beyond the studyguides
Buran is a very good teacher, I really enjoyed her lab, I learned a lot from her. She's very professional, she makes it clear from the start that you have to study hard in order to get a good grade. Buran always appreciates feedback from her students and makes every effort to accomodate her students needs.
maaan this lady is ridiculous!!! im in her punk ass class right now and she just lectures all day. not a good teacher at all and teaches fast like u already know this stuff.. do not take this teacher.. if you enroll in this classs consider it a second job cuz that is what it is.....
Amazing teacher, she was part of the human genome project so she knows her****. You won't leave this class less than an expert on human biology at the molecular level.
This lady is crazy. she works very hard and she expects no less from you. The material is fairly complex and many people won't be able to grasp it easily. so come prepared to work.... or consider a class you don't have to work/learn in. If you don't put in the effort, she will not wait for you, she'll leave your ass behind in a second.
Tough class. Book is essential - read before class and use it to do study guides before test. Mult. choice tests are difficult, but she adds points when people don't do well. No homework, 1 presentation. Prof. wants you to learn the material, will always stay late to help you. Don't expect to leave early from the lab. Overall good professor.
This teacher is CRAZY! I had a 3.9 GPA before taking this class and I got a C! Her exams are ridiculous and it's almost impossible to study for them. She had 2 girls crying during her final because it was too hard! Also don't expect to leave Lab early, EVER! On a bright note she's very nice, but the worst teach Ive had. Too smart to be a teacher!
bad grammar, mixes up info, & accent make it hard to understand her... Qs on test are not straight fwd! Theyre like riddles! cant lrn in lecture coz u cant undrstnd her only way u'll pass is read book word for word. Read book! there IS hmwk, busy work. students have 2 print evrythng on their own be prepared. she is a good person though...
I'm surprised people think the class is hard.I purchased the text book and have opened it once since the semester started, and I get A's on all the tests. She words the questions tricky, but they're scantron multiple choice, you get to use a half page of notes and she gives you a detailed study guide for every test.Labs are cake.
She was amazing. Good luck finding another professor who cares so much about her students and will dedicate so much time to her classes. Show up to class, do the reading assignment and you're guaranteed an A. There's no question that those who wrote the bad reviews were lazy or used to being spoon fed all the info. This is Bio for science majors.
I really enjoyed Dr. Haidar. She's published and knows her stuff. Her accent, to me, isn't hurtful at all. She's well spoken. She does require a lot of testing and studying, but that part is on your shoulders. The subject is hard, but she teaches it well and scales very fair. She's extremely helpful and kind, almost motherly.
She is an amazing teacher, and loves what she is doing!! You just have to trust her, cause she knows what you need to pass this class, prepare yourself before and after class, don't be wishy washy about it... at first you'll hate the class because its a tough subject, but after a while you'll enjoy her class.
Extremely rude and unapologetic.
Enthusiastic about what she teaches, but lectures are a bit disorganized. Really easy multiple-choice tests, but questions can be cryptic. Pay attention to what she stresses during her lectures and increase your guessing skills for her tests. She gives a ton of extra credit though, I didn't do hw and ended up with 101% in the class.
Not well-organized. Always change in last minutes. So no enough time to prepare the tests. Hard to understand the quiz 's questions.
LOTS OF WORK! LOTS OF TESTS!(1 test every other week)majority of grade! The Study guides are very helpful and she goes over all of it in class. Dont miss lecture or you'll fall behind fast! strict on attendance. you learn A LOT!! overall: great teacher! always check email for added assignments (last min). her ppts online are the tests! print them!
Mrs.Haidar was the best biology teacher I ever had! She pushes you very hard but in the end you learn a ton of information that you didnt know when you came in. We had 9 tests, a couple lab tests, and a final exam. She makes you WORK for you grade but it's worth it. One of the best teachers I have ever had.
This is the best teacher I have had in my entire life. She relates the infoo everyday siturmationations and is always ready to stop and help you if you are feeling confused. If you want to learn and are willing to put in the time, you cannot find a better professor than Dr. Haidar.
Dr. Haidar , she is a professor. She is very helpful, very easy, she has a good sense of Humor. She is very faithful to let everybody understand Biology and to live biology. Course is not hard at all. Just keep in studying, and read. Quiz and tests only tests how much you got and you understood ? not hard for one who studied. You can go to her offi
As others have said already, Professor Haidar gives out a lot work, and it's true. She gives out work such as "Learning Aids" but they benefit the students for test preparation. She is very willing to explain concepts that students do not understand over again. Tests are about every 2 weeks, but it is not so bad as it may seem. Take her for biology
Dr. Buran Haidar is a wonderful teacher! She is warm, approachable and really truly cares about her students. She is big on making sure you understand the concepts. She WANTS you to pass and will help you if you ask. She is fair in her grading. If you study you will pass with a good grade. Print the ppt slide to take notes on - those are her tests!
Prof Haidar is awesome. She has a querky sense of humor and enjoys teaching. She really wants you to understand the concepts of Bio. I had a hard time with some of the concepts because there is so much information being thrown at you. Make sure to ask questions and participate in class. Study the PP and your book and you will do fine.
Prof. Haidar made it an interesting, and enjoyous experience learning about biology. She has turned my thoughts about biology totally around.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! She sucks at teaching, her accent is hella hard to understand. Her tests are hella hard. She grades hard. She swears like you should know your biology before you even take her class. You are better off taking Professor Hurley's class even tho its a night class! lols.
This class is really fun to take. Haidar is extremely nice and helpful. All you have to do is read the textbook and you'll ace this class. However, the obvious is already stated: you can't be lazy. Her tests are mostly multiple choice. Just make sure you understand your textbook and you'll do fine.
She is an extremely helpful teacher in my opinion. Here are some tips 1. listen during her lecture and follow along (take notes) 2. even though she does not collect the "learning aid" it is VERY IMPORTANT TO DO THEM. 3. The study guide, DO IT the test is on those concepts. 4. YES HER MC TEST IS HARD. 5. She has a website with all her PPT read it b4
She is nice. Tests are extremely hard.you really have to spend a lot of time to study for it (every whole-weekend for me as a second language learner)..don't dream about get out of her class any early minute..A lot of good information....sometimes it is too much info to study for a test. Be prepared if you take her.!!!
She is passionate about bio. Her tests are hard, but she gives you the tools to do great in her class. Do all the study guides she provides on her website and go to her and ask questions, she is very helpful! She is a teacher that you don't want to let down, she genuinely cares.
r u kidding me?! her tests are hard?! tests are only hard if you didnt study for them. shes one of the nicest teachers youll ever meet. read up on your bio book and youll get an A. her tests are mostly multiple choice. i would highly recommend her!
Ridiculousy hard. Don't take won't curve your grade and won't help you pass if you need ut
Super easy class! She is extremely helpful and wants everyone to understand what is going on. If you show up to class regularly, pay attention, take notes and ask questions you'll do fine! I got a pretty good grade and I didn't study one single time or even open the book at all! Wonderful, enthusiastic teacher!
Honestly, it is not an easy class regardless of the instructor but Haidar doses a good job with power points and test guides to prepare students. She loves to teach and expects a lot from students. covers everything in class just follow her notes. 9 mini tests drops lowers, boring lab, and final presentation.
I have taken about 5 bio classes (3 were upper div) and Dr. Haidar is excellent. She's very thorough so don't expect to leave early. Labs are super easy. She's worked in the field (not just teaching her whole life) so she tells you what companies expect. Tests every other week but drops one. I busted my butt for an "A" in this class. Study hard.
She sucks at teaching, she has that accent that you would not understand anything. she thinks that she is the best teacher ever but the opposite is the truth. she expects u to be a bio expert. don't take her class!!!!
Don't listen to the complainers, they won't survive at the University level. This class, I know, will help me when i take upper div. courses in Bio. Learning Aids, Study Guides, and PPTs are all online. Rest is up to you. Wouldn't say it's hard, wouldn't say it's easy. You deserve the grade you get. LABS are REALLY BORING, nap time haha
I personally thought she was one of the worst teachers I've ever had. She was so incredibly scatter brained. I spoke to many of my classmates and almost everyone I spoke felt she was a lovely person (which she is in my opinion too) but she should have remained in research because her teaching is a joke. I would try to take someone else if you can.
Those who whine about the class really don't understand how complex and indepth biology can be. The textbook is dry and the lecture boring but that's biology! Professor Haidar expects independence and discipline of her students and she gives it her all when teaching. Tests are somewhat lacking in the rigor I had expected but still manageable.
She is very knowledgeable but lectures are extremely dry. Test are very straight forward as long as you pay attention to what is asked. If you care to understand the material she is great. If you are looking to be entertained this is NOT the teacher.
Dr. Haidar is thorough and detailed in lecture, but her exams are very basic..too easy if you've paid attention. People who complain about the difficulty of the class should not be in the class to begin with. Many people in my class should not have passed but did thanks to her lenient grading. End of semester presentation instead of final was fun
She's very helpful and thorough. 9 tests, no final, fairly easy A
I was excited to take her due to the good reviews she had. It was a huge mistake I dread this class each week. You will never leave early from a lab because she lectures until the last minute. She will bore you to death, I studied my ass off and probably still won't pull off a B. Don't take her there are way better professors out there.
Absolute best science Professor I have had! She really cares about her students and wants them to do well. Everything in lecture is clear and understandable and she gives you really great resources and learning aids. Never before have I learned so much about Biology and important life lessons as well as I did with Haidar. The best there is!
Professor Haidar is a lovely person, she definitely cares about her students. As others have mentioned, don't ever expect to leave early. There are weeks where there is no lab and she will talk to you for hours straight. Labs are not independent like other classes, lot's of hand holding. Easy to get a good grade if you pay attention and study.
Prof. Haidar is one of THE best. I truly learned a lot from her course and believe that she really does care about her students. She is completely fair in her grading, all exams are multiple choice with a few extra credit questions at the end. The exams require you to read the text and pay attention in lecture, if you do all that you'll get an A
Great professor, really knows her stuff. Does not make biology terms too difficult for intro class. Took it over the summer, so material is intense, but not too difficult.
Professor Hadar is awesome. She has a real passion for biology & really knows her stuff. She makes her lectures fun, although don't expect to get out of lab early. Tests are multiple choice & usually has a few extra credit questions. She is very approachable & really there for her students. Really enjoyed her class & would take again. Great teacher
She is by far the best professor I ever had. She is extremely helpful and caring. She definitely wants you to participate in class. She is very fair in every way. I completely love professors like that. She would tell you what you need to do to pass and to get an A. One downside is that she doesn't like to be interrupted during class.
Professor Haidar is definitely in love with Biology. She breaks down the lecture in a way that's easy to understand and she has all her lecture material online in case you missed anything. She drops questions from her exams if enough people miss them Definitely wants her students to succeed, easy to approach.
She's a great professor overall. Since Bio 107 is a general ed elective, she doesn't go over the topics in too much detail, which is nice. There are 7 tests, and she drops the lowest scoring test from your grade. Her English grammar is tricky to understand sometimes because when she states something, it comes out in the form of a question instead.
Professor Haidar, is one of my favorite teachers. She makes lectures and labs interesting and enjoyable. Her love and experience in Biology really shows in her teaching. If you go to class and pay attention, you will do well in her class.
Take as much of her classes as you can, she gives great lectures and teaches very well.
Because this is a science major class, it requires more memorization and studying. You can tell Professor Haidar really cares about her students and the subject, the passion she has is amazing. She has very helpful resources to assist with the material. Again this is a science major class, you're required to study, this class requires dedication.
By far the worst professor I have ever had in biology. I am an A-student and always have been and I have never done this bad in a science class. She doesn't grasp the concept of teaching and she doesn't respect her students. She acts like a nagging mother, and she is opinionated and unreasonable. She doesn't ask for your opinion at all.
Horrible. I really dislike this professor. Probably the worst professor I have ever had. She doesn't care about feedback from her students and teaches by asking rhetorical questions so if you don't know something you won't get an answer. She is rude and doesn't care about youR grade. No curves. 6 tests. All of them worded absolutely terribly
This professor loves to set her students up to fail. She will consistently make every test on material she doesn't cover in lectures and even the stuff she covers in lectures doesn't really make sense because you can't make out a word from her accent. She doesn't understand her job as a professor is to be there and engage her students.
She is a very confusing professor teaching a very difficult course. She will confuse you with her lectures and doesn't give you a straight forward answer to your question. Her test are different from her lectures. Her powerpoint are from the book but her test questions are from the power points and a lot more. Do not recommend this to anyone.
Many people think she's a hard professor, but in all honesty, it's a difficult class. You have to pay attention and there are no 'give me' points in her class. If you just want to pass Bio210A and not learn --take someone else. In her class, if you apply yourself you'll really learn. And if you need help her office hours are really helpful.
I started off on the wrong foot in this class and she has really helped me turn it around. This professor will go out of her way to help you. Those who say she doesn't care about her students obviously just want an easy A. Take her class if you actually want to learn something. Her tests are tough but she is a fair grader and let's you drop one.
Please avoid her if you can. I know others in my classes found her exams easy because they took AP Biology in high school or already had a biology degree. She teaches a basic level of the information and then tests at an application of intermediate information level.
She is pretty clear about what she wants from students and really tries to help students understand biology rather than just memorizing facts. Reading book is mandatory if you want to learn more about details since she only covers concept and does not go into details so much. If you want to get A in this class you must read the book and go to class
She is absolutely a nice woman who wants to help students, very organized and perfect for students who took biology before. However In my idea as this course is a basic Biology course and that was my first time taking biology . The exams were very hard for me. I think she might think that we were scientist like her!!
She is absolutely a nice woman who wants to help students, very organized and perfect for students who took biology before. However In my idea as this course is a basic Biology course and that was my first time taking biology . The exams were very hard for me. I think she might think that we were scientist like her!!
Avoid this professor. Professor Haidar is not only very strict but also expects you to be at an intermediate-high level or biology if you're in her class. She gives the most long, monotone lectures of all time, including in lab. She won't let you out an second before class is over, and her exams are so so hard. Seriously avoid her and the stress.
Do yourself a favor and avoid her class! She has a really bad accent, one which you will not understand. It seems as if she does everything in her power to fail the students who did not take 107. She expects you to know all the material. This has been by far the hardest biology class I have taken. I would to recommend taking her class.
Tests are every other week, and you are allowed to use notes. I slacked off and got a D and a couple Cs, but still managed to pull off the A; as long as you study before them, the exams are plentiful enough for you to pull up your grade. Lectures are a bit boring though, definitely fell asleep, which is vital because she lectures on exam material.
If you are expecting an easy A, then do not take this class. Grades come from 6 exams with lowest one dropped. Very hard materials so coming to lecture AND reading the book outside of class is a must. Frequent exams in order to master couple chapters at a time as they build upon each other. Half a sheet of notes on the day of the exam also helps.
Professor Haidar is the best! She's super nice and really cares about students, and you will be well prepared for your next bio class! She let's you have a notecard during tests, come on, be prepared, read, and you'll do fine. Pay attention in class and ask questions, go to office hours she will help you!!!
Dr. Haidar is by far one of the most genuine and human professors I've ever encountered. I would not call her class easy by any stretch of the imagination but it is not impossible if you're willing to be proactive and put in the work. She is highly organized, clear and actually STICKS to the syllabus. She cares about the success of her students!
I wish she taught 210B as well!!! If you don't understand something she will take her time to explain it ten different ways to you until you do - if there isn't time in class she is more than willing to make time for you in her office hours! EVERYTHING that is on the test (she drops one) is on the study guide. Dr. Haidar is the best prof for this!
Bio 210A is not an easy class to begin with. Professor Haidar makes very clear her expectations and is more than willing to help with any clarification needed. Lecture PowerPoints and study guide are posted online. If you know the study guide front and back this class is no problem. Most of the course grade came from tests.
Professor Haidar was a great professor! You could tell she really cared about the students and that she is truly passionate about biology. You definitely have to put your own work in to get an A, but it is beyond manageable. I understand why she got so many bad reviews in the past.
She seems nice and willing to help. But everytime I went in, her only advice was that I wasn't studying correctly. That's all, no extra tips or anything. I studied from her power points and study guides and read the book. Her tests are not based on what is taught.
Class itself wasn't too hard if you read the book and do the study guides she uploads. Tests are easy if you prepare properly; however, it's a common occurance for her to put things on the study guide and test that she didn't go over. Lecture/powerpoints were no help to me and lab was hell because she would talk for 2 hours before beginning
She acts like she cares but the moment you criticize her or ask a question that goes against her rules in class then she will put you on blast and is not understanding what so ever. Her labs are all lectures and her test are nothing like the lecture and useless powerpoints and you pretty much have to come in bio ready or A is not an option.
After final grades were up, I went to her office to retrieve my graded work, only to find out that she had just graded a stack of my work before I came in. She said she didn't even bothering since I was getting a C anyway. She had no Shame. I wasn't even shy half a point from a B. lab time exteneded. If scantrons are graded incorrectly. tough!
Her powerpoints are useless because she puts broad concepts on them. You HAVE to go to class and try to pick out the important parts of what she is saying. Sometimes it seems likes she's just throwing words together and it makes no sense. 7 tests (can drop 1), 2 lab exams, no final, and 1 presentation at the end. The book is more helpful honestly
She is very organized and she is a very nice person, however, I would not take her class again. There are way too many tests, and they are on the things she did not cover in her class. Her lecture slides and study guides are useless, and she would keep her students at the very last minute of the class
I wish she taught anatomy and physiology. I would totally take her again. She is a strict, but sweet lady. May be blunt, but means well. I have never had a bio professor that gave extra credit and it helped. Go to her office hours for help.
This class was amazing! She is highly knowledgeable and passionate about teaching. She really cares about her students ability to succeed as well. The study guides she posts, do them, they will be on the tests. You will have to work hard but she gives you all the tools for success and a greater understanding of the subject than other intro courses
Professor Haidar is a very sweet woman teaching a very difficult subject. If you go to her office hours and show that you want to do well, she will do everything in her power to help you. You definitely have to put in your own work, though, and I only started getting A's on tests when I started recording her lectures and listening to them at home.
B. Haidar is an excellent biology professor. Difficult topics are explained in a way that is easy to understand often with humorous analogies. Exam questions require a mastery of the concepts and not just memorizing terms so plan on studying. Haidar cares about preparing students for a successful future in science.
Her powerpoint are useless because the test questions are never from them, she will fight with you when you ask a question and most likely answer it with another question, lectures all lab and is a terrible teacher compared to other bio professors at miramar hated by students and is absolutely not helpful in anyway when you approach her...
I wish she taught more bio courses. The current bio professor I have now is horrible, and the whole time I wished I had her as a professor. She is very caring. Although she has an accent, she is clear as a whistle. Her exams are fair.
Very knowledgeable, caring, and passionate about the subject. She has compiled various study aids on her website, which proved very helpful. If you attend every lecture, go to her office hours, READ THE BOOK (don't rely only on her powerpoints), use the many resources on her website, and an A is achievable. Exams are challenging but fair.
She is a highly intelligent lady who cares deeply about her students, and has a very charming (light) accent. She presents the info in many different ways (animations, ppt presentations, worksheets, current research, etc.) to cater to different learning styles. Quizzes are more challenging than the exams. Resources on her website were very useful.
Professor Haidar is a very sweet lady and does her best to make the course understandable for everyone. I can tell she loves it when students come and ask her for help or simply talk to her. The material can be hard to understand at times but the textbook or asking questions can help clarify things. It is important to know all the test dates btw.
Professor Haidar is very knowledgable and passionate about the material. She really cares that her students succeed and learn the subject matter, and she will go out of her way to answer questions and be available for further help outside of class. But you have to put in the work! I really hope I have the chance to take another class with her!
Dr. Haidar is obviously an intelligent woman and she cares about her students succeeding. However I did not find her lectures to be that helpful. Most of the time I just went on youtube and watched videos on there. Her power points would be more helpful if she had an an outline or flowchart of every single section before diving into details.
Taken as a summer course so the pace was blistering, but Prof. Haidar is extremely qualified to teach the material -- she's brilliant so you have to pay full attention to follow her lectures because the material is very tough at points. She's a wonderful person and great teacher. 79% of grade is multiple choice scantron tests and the rest is lab.
Haidar is a very educated woman who knows the material she is teaching with mastery. Her straightforwardness to some questions may come off as rude but she is just being literal and that is perfectly fine. Some people need to loosen up. She encourages questions and really cares about her students. She does talk a little bit too fast so listen!
She takes attendance until the end rather than just the drop date but that didn't stop half the class from skipping every other lecture out of sheer frustration. Rude to students (Interrupted everyone who asked a question). Rambles about irrelevant subjects during lecture. Class frequently ran late. Usually kept students the whole 3hr lab.
Great teacher, very helpful and makes sure everyone understands whats going on before moving on to the next subject. Its a summer class and she used all the lecture and lab time to make sure we were learning. She prepares you for transfer to the UC or CSU system. Lab does last until the last minute but its full of useful information. Sweet lady too
I don't think I've ever met such an incredibly inspirational person. Dr. Haidar is one in a million and I honestly valued every moment around her. Not only is she a genius in her field& passionate about what she teaches, she truly cares that every one of her students understand the material, because she loves it that much. She WANTS you to succeed.
This course packs a lot of information and is challenging. If you want to do well, you will have to work hard, and you will absolutely have to read the textbook. That being said, Dr. Haidar wants you to succeed and is very helpful if you go to her office hours. She has also meticulously compiled several learning aids on her website that are useful.
Amazing professor! Took her for intersession so it was very rigorous and required a lot of studying time but she gives you more than enough resources to learn the material. She is very knowledgeable so her lectures are very easy to follow! Its a major class so a lot of work is expected but it can easily be done.
Attendance taken every lab/lecture. Deducts points if you miss too many. Lectures are very coherent, but you need to read before class because she can talk fast. She states facts as questions: ("Are mitochondria from the maternal cell.") Tests: 25-30 questions with 2 possible bonus pts. You'll always stay until the last minute. Great prof overall
At first, I was not really interested in this subject but she was the first one to approach me. She was very persuasive and passionate about her students. She can be tough sometimes especially with exams but as long as you know the material she posted on her website and review it you will never have a problem.
Lectures drag on, I didnt retain anything from them. Reading the textbook is a must. She was pretty unclear with what she wanted in lab and the second lab exam is pretty tough if youre not good with lab stuff; tests can make up for it if you average 90-95%. Study guides are nice, just read the textbook and know everything well enough to apply it
Straightforward. I never understood her lectures so I had to depend heavily on the book. There's so many tests (about 1 every 1.5 weeks) and lab quizzes, nice tho bc 1 test won't tank your grade (she drops the lowest except for the final). Noncumulative final, takes the whole time in lab. Takes attendance for everything but lectures are useless.
She was all over the place in her ppt in lecture and goes off on tangents. 210A is a begin course and she lectured as she was teaching in a University level. Test are awful as she requires you to know more in depth of subject. Study guides arent at all helpful to much remember. If u dont want a life take her class otherwise chose someone else.
Terrible lectures, asks questions and then answers her own questions while asking an additional question. Most students in the class are lost 70% of the time. Very nice person but my education isnt based on whether shes nice or not, its whether I can learn or not. Read the book, its much more helpful than the lecture.
Dr. Haidar has to be my all time favorite teacher. If you have the opportunity to be graced by her presence, you should talk it.
Horrible lectures, nothing she teaches are on the tests. Tests are very in depth of the topics you barely cover. Lab is also used to lecture and no management of time, she will go over class allotted time.
Very hard exams, no extra credit at all what ever you get on the exams that is your grade. Lab exams are so difficult. The multiple chose questions are so confusing even though you memorized the materials. Lectures are not understandable. Her power points are so missed up. I wish I can write more not recommended at all. Go with professor Ashley.
This professor can talk forever, so don't expect to leave lab or lecture early. Even if you finish the experiment early, she will lecture about next lab or drag out lectures. Nice professor but lacks time management and organization. Her slides are not helpful so prepare to read the textbook. Good luck if you take her. Smart move if you don't.
One of the best teachers Ive had so far. Great course. Made class relevant to life not just a customary curriculum. Never purchased a textbook. Test are directly from lectures which are given to students online. Study guides are also given.
I took this class in fall 2017. I transferred to a university last year and every biology related class reminds me of Dr. Haidar. She is a great teacher and everything that she taught me I still have to put into practice, obviously every class becomes more complex. She is a great teacher I had the chance to do the honors program with her.
Professor Haidar is a phenomenal professor. I took this class over the summer so the material was overwhelming, but I went to Professor Haidar whenever I had questions and she was always willing to help me out. You should be able to pass the tests as long as you UTILIZE the study guides she has posted.
Dr. Haidar is incredibly knowledgeable and pushes students to really learn biology. This class requires a fair amount of studying because exams test your understanding of concepts, not just straight memorization. Exams are fair and she puts in a lot of effort to provide helpful learning aids/study guides for EVERY unit.
Professor Haidar cares deeply about her students learning. I took her bio210a class. She is a good teacher and makes herself available during office hours to answer questions. The class is test heavy but there is a lot of material and it truly is a good way to learn. I enjoyed prof haidar as my teacher and would take her class again.
This class is not a walk in the park but the professor does her very best to make sure those who WORK to pass, pass. I finished this class with a C which isn't what I wanted but what I deserved. Haidar reached out to me via email, in class and in between breaks to make sure I was doing well. I have yet to meet a teacher this involved and caring.
Fantastic professor. So understanding and caring about her students. This is NOT a hard class. It is challenging material because it is science but doing your reading, quizzes, study and you will be fine. She expects you to put in your due work and that is it. Very kind Professor and truly cares about her students.
Super hard. Stay away from this professor. "A" students get bad grades in this class even if you study 24/7.
I am an A student, and her online course is super hard I am ashamed of what I got and I tried to communicate with her, by going to several office hours, and there was no improvement. She did not help in anyway to help me understand the material. I know several people dropped, and I should have because my GPA is now suffering for medical school.
You have to read the textbook religiously to pass her test, and even then you still feel like you don't know. She provides slides but they are just snippets of the textbook and a lot of links to videos that don't even show up on the test. When you ask her for help she tells you to read the book or use Quizlet. Super time-consuming.
She is not helpful when you reach out to her, she grades exams and discussions harshly. She does not reply to your messages until a few weeks later. Overall she makes the class harder than it needs to be, I would stay away and choose another professor.
DO NOT take her ONLINE class. She is an absolute mess. I want to clarify I am a straight A student. Not a slacker. Here to WARN you. Online, she is a terrible teacher. Her canvas set up is CONFUSING. Nothing you've ever seen before. No structured syllabus. Inconsistent with due dates. Does NOT respond to emails. Bad at tech. You've been warned.
Online she is Terrible. She vanishes from her video lectures due to internet and tech issues. Attendance is MANDATORY. Odd online testing format. 2 Quizzes happen on Saturday @ 7 pm - 9 pm. For tests you must have video and are taken during class time. Not understanding. DOES NOT reply to emails. No structured syllabus. Extremely thick accent.
The most trash professor I've ever taken. Don't listen to any of the positive reviews on here and before you question it im a pretty decent student. I have a 3.75 GPA. 1) she is extremely difficult to understand. 2) she talks in circles o lectures. 3) study guides dont help 4) questions on tests and quizzes dont make sense to whats being asked
She is the queen of tangents. She skirts around answering questions and has an impossible time getting to the point. Everyone's GPA is suffering due to her extremely tight time limits and poor wording on tests. Every lecture I leave more confused than at the start.
I loved prof Haidar. She cared about her students, and was very understanding of your personal needs. She knew the material very well. Her lectures were pretty fast-paced, but she will answer all of your questions throughout. She is very straightforward, which can be taken as "rude" but rest assured, she is a very nice woman. Definitely recommend
First, the comments about Dr. Haidar being difficult to understand are untrue. While she does have an accent, she articulates every syllable. Cons: Its difficult to know what exactly will be tested despite the study guides she provides. For an entry level class, this course is far too difficult. Pros:HOWEVER, highly recommended for science majors.
Professor Haidar is a very nice lady, but she is not the best teacher. If a student does not understand right away, she can be very demeaning and condescending. She talks really fast, and she typically does not answer questions directly. to be honest, her class was a nightmare. The only good thing about her class were the curves she gives on tests.
This class is doable if you want a C. If you want a B you may be up for a week straight trying to understand everything. Her lectures are okay however it may be hard to understand her. She is nice but not the best teacher. Honestly I like the material but this class was absolutely terrible. Getting an A in this class is very tough.
Grading system is kind of weird, she critiques the labs over the smallest things and docks massive amounts of points if she doesn't like your work
Professor Haidar isn't as bad as these reviews say she is. As long as you diligently do the work, you'll be fine. She gives out tons of homework, but is very lenient with due dates. Other than the homework I didn't have any problem with her class. :)
