Brother Korth is really funny and enjoyable. There are some awkward topics, but he made them as non-awkward as possible. There is very little homework and the tests are all open note, which adds to the class's appeal. If you turn in everything on time and make an effort, you should get an A.
Honestly the best and easiest class to take at BYU. Every assignment is handed to you on the first day of class, so if you want to finish the course in the first couple days of the semester, you can. Brother Korth is a great teacher and makes topics that may not necessarily relate directly to you understandable and interesting.
Dr. Korth is an excellent professor and is genuine in his teaching. He is passionate about ECE and does a great job of teaching it to students. Sometimes he gets a little stuck on topics and it is a little repetitive. It isn't terrible but it makes it a little difficult to stay completely engaged at those points. He listen to students.
Dr. Korth is very caring and makes it very easy to get a good grade. He frequently gets behind schedule with his lectures, and he is sometimes overly apologetic with sensitive subjects, but overall, he's a great professor.
You have quizzes after every topic. They ask if you were present for the topic, otherwise attendance isn't really essential. Bro Korth was nice and wants his students to succeed. Assignments were easy as long as you do them before the last second. I thought lectures became increasingly repetitive throughout the semester. He offers extra credit.
Brother Korth is such a kind and caring man. He wants you to succeed as a student and as a person. Class is a super easy A. I don't feel like I left class feeling insanely inspired or that I was incredibly more well versed in church doctrine, but I did have an uplifting spiritual experience. I would take a religion class from him again.
Dr. Korth was very caring and helpful, and he really wanted all of us to succeed. My one complaint is that he told us the test should be easy if we followed the review and it was not that easy. You can boost up your grade simply by doing the readings and showing up to class, though. I learned a lot from him!
Not impressed, Very boring lectures. Never fully answered his students questions. He goes off rants often.
It's an easy A. Go to class, do the readings, and you'll be more than fine. Lectures can get pretty boring, but go for the points. Tests are online so they're convenient and easy. Not the best religion professor I've had, but a straightforward and easy class.
Brother Korth is great. His lessons are organized and available on learning suite. All tests and projects are submitted online and participation is self evaluated. Show and be engaged and you should be fine.
Brother Korth is such a good teacher. He really cares about his students and wants to help them. Each class is begun with a song, prayer, and spiritual thought. His tests are mainly doctrine based rather than based on memorization. If you think you already know a lot about eternal families you'll be surprised by how much you'll learn in his class.
I LOVE THIS CLASS. no work but i always feel like i'm still learning. I can ask anything i want in that class and we will discuss it. very open very easy yet very spiritual
Brother Korth is so genuine and truly cares about his students. He'll answer any questions and leaves room for discussions if you want. This class was super easy during summer. Everything's online. He assigns a lot of readings that aren't really necessary but you get credit for just doing them and going to class
His teaching style is more lecture-y so just be aware that it may be boring at times. He also loves to assign lots of reading for credit and likes his assignments to be single spaced papers.
Brother Korth gave the testimony-strengthening lectures. He was relatable and personable. Found/shared wonderful talks and quotes.
Brother Korth is a nice guy. However, his class is extremely disorganized. He assigns topic-based readings, then does not lecture on that topic and instead gives the same lecture over again, expecting his students to keep up with the schedule that he ignores. His lectures go downhill and difficult topics are opinion-based. Not the class I wanted.
He's the bomb. Really chill dude. Doesn't teach apostasy like a lot of Professors do.
If you want to go to seminary again, take Brother Korth.
Brother Korth is so kind. His class is slide heavy so prepare yourself for that. He uses a lot of quotes from Gen. Authorities during lecture. You don't really need to take notes because all the information you need to study is on the slides. So study his slides and you'll pass. He has several big assignments that aren't too difficult.
Dr. Korth is just a real stand-up guy. He is genuine, caring, and knowledgeable about the family and the doctrines surrounding it. Very easy class if you are willing to do the reading and participate because 50% of your grade is self-evaluation. He trusts students to be honest and invited them to share in class often.
Great teacher. He gives great lectures and provide everything you need to know for every the final.
Brother Korth is simply inspiring. He genuinely cares about EVERY single student. I loved his lectures as he shies away from no topic. His faith is super strong and this class answered SOOOO many questions that are usually considered taboo in mormon culture.
Solid choice for a religion class if you want a non difficult professor that you actually learn stuff from in a simple, not exaggerated way.
Extremely easy to get an A in his class. There are a lot of projects and papers, but they are basically completion grades. His tests are the easiest I have seen at BYU. On the other hand, his lectures are boring and his teaching style is ineffective. I didn't gain anything spiritually or academically from this class, but at least it was an easy A.
Prof Korth earnestly believes in the material in The Eternal Family class, but he creates space for you to vocalize your struggles privately or in discussion. He takes feedback well and looks for student input. The class is easy and well-laid out. He's relatively fair in his assessment of difficult social issues and doesn't really push an agenda.
I love Brother Korth!! I truly looked forward to coming to his lectures and was sad at the end when it was over. The midterms are really easy if you do the readings and pay attention during the lectures. He is so respectful and truly cares individually about each of his students. I always felt the Spirit in his class. TAKE IT FROM BROTHER KORTH!!!
Great professor, I learned a lot in his class. The class was not hard at all, the grading criteria is clear. Most of the homework is reading scriptures and reading or listening to talks which I could do while doing other things. Very respectful as we discussed tough topics. Would take from him again.
I took Korth for Eternal Families and he was great. Really easy grader, offers lots of extra credit, and is happy to help outside of class. I also really liked his take on the doctrines covered in the course. Nearly half the grade is comprised of attendance, so you definitely need to go to class.
Hey, it's a religion professor who teaches a 2 credit class like an actual 2 credit class! Professor Korth is an awesome lecturer who gives just the right amount of homework. Expect a couple of hours of reading a week, plus the occasional writing assignment, but this class won't attack your schedule like the Kraken that some other Rel classes are.
Finally a religion professor who remembers that this class is only two credits, not 5. This is my last year at BYU and Korth is the best religion teacher I have had so far. Interesting lectures and the right amount of homework to keep you interested and accountable without killing you.
Brother Korth is absolutely amazing! I have loved his class. You have a few big assignments, 2 tests, and a final that is a paper. You do PSE's after every unit where you grade yourself. This class does have a lot of readings but they are enjoyable. Make sure to come to class. The class was easy to enjoy since I didn't have to worry over my grade
Not my favorite religion professor, mostly because he just read off the slides and there wasn't a lot of class discussion. But I did learn A LOT from him and he was really good at being sensitive about difficult topics. He cares about the students, assignments are graded easily, and there is the perfect amount of homework for a religion class.
Prof Korth is excellent at his job. He makes his class interesting and thought provoking, but does NOT make it unnecessarily hard like some others. I would highly recommend you take this class from him. It is pretty easy and does not require a ton of time to do well. Tests are online and pretty easy too.
I really loved this class from Professor Korth. There is a bit of reading, but if you do the reading and come to class and finish the assignments you will do well. The tests are both really easy. There are extra credit opportunities if you need them. He does a really good job of covering controversial topics and helps you to feel the Spirit.
Two online midterms (don't worry about taking notes in class, he posts all his slides so I reviewed those for maybe an hour and got 100 on both). Course project which requires a bit of work. Final that is a paper which was nice. Lots of reading but most were conference talks so I did 2x speed. He asks that you come to class but you self grade that
Brother Korth was really nice and I really loved the discussions we would have in class. He really cares about his students and handles sensitive topics well. However, he has A LOT of assignments of varying sizes. If you are okay with that then this is a great class to take! If you are looking for an easy religion class this one is not for you.
Bro Korth is awesome. He cares a ton about what he teaches and you can tell that by the way he talks about everything. It gets a little lecture heavy without student involvement so its hard to stay completely focused. He provides close study guides for his tests which aren't too difficult. If you want an A in this class, it is there for the taking.
Dr. Korth is the very best!!! His classes felt like your favorite seminary class from high school. He's super nice, really respectful, and an easy grader. Start the final projects early in the semester, because they do take a little bit of time. Best religion class I've ever taken by far, I'd highly recommend!
Byran Korth is a good man and I enjoyed learning from him, but the lectures weren't terribly engaging. He just read off of his powerpoint and rarely asked for participation. I wish he would have shared more about his life and whatnot. But the class is beyond easy. Tests are 105% average probably.
Professor Korth is one of the most genuine people you'll ever meet. He really does seem to care about each of his students personally. His class relied heavily on powerpoints and it has a high school seminary vibe to it, but I appreciated that he took time before, during, and after class to answer any questions that I had. Awesome guy, easy class.
He knows his stuff and is good at connecting with students on an emotional level. No need to buy the packet unless your a paper-reader person. Just look up the talks online. Very slide and lecture heavy, kinda made it hard to stay interested in the lesson. This is a good choice if you're looking for an A for a small amount of effort.
good feedback given.
He's an amazing man. He makes his lectures personal and he wants to answer any questions students may have. There is a lot of reading, but it is well worth it. A few projects and a book of your choice to read during the semester. As long as you don't procrastinate its pretty easy. I loved this class! Bro Korth is such a nice guy!
Bro Korth really is a kind man. He cares about his students and loves feedback and is very humble. But do know that he loves reading off of slides all day every day which gets real monotonous, and he goes NUTS with the highlighting on his slides! He has a podunk Idaho feel and isn't the most engaging or creative, but he is a sweet teddy bear.
Super nice guy, but not a great lecturer. I mean, he is a great choice for an easy religion class. You should go to every class, but he posts a study guide before each midterm along with his slides. His slides have everything you need to know on them. Probably one of the easiest classes I have ever taken at BYU.
Overall a very loving and caring teacher. I took this class over zoom and I could tell he wanted the students of his class to understand the importance of each doctrine he taught. 10/10 would love to have him again.
Take. This. Class. It's exactly what you want from a religion class. This guy is so sweet.
Brother Korth is the best! You will have an amazing spiritual learning experience because you won't be so worried about your grade. Just do the readings and participate in class and you'll be fine. Tests were very easy.
I loved Brother Korth. He is fantastic! TAKE ETERNAL FAM FROM HIM.
Brother Korth is a great lecturer. He does a great job at covering controversial topics! There is quite a bit of homework for a 2 credit class, but it is not that hard. 2 exams, 4 projects, and the final is a writing project. He grades super easily!
I loved Brother Korth! He is very personal, relatable, and kind. The midterms are extremely easy to complete, he provides extra credit, and he is sensitive to specific topics relating to family and marital issues, gender identity, and sexual orientation. It feels like a safe space. Assignments are straight forward, and he always answers questions.
Wonderful guy, real down to earth and willing to share personal experiences. He is very loving and passionate about this class. If you put in the effort to do the readings for the week you'll get a lot out of it. He assigns more projects than I would have liked for a 2 credit, but it's manageable. Gives clear instructions and outlines for all test
Lectures at the beginning were pretty dry but they got better with the semester. Also didn't like how his slides contain paragraphs of info with all the colors of the rainbow. BUT the class was very manageable and easy. I got 102% without even doing all of the extra credit. There are several projects but they are very straight-forward. Good choice!
I seriously loved this class. It was spiritual, eye opening, and life changing- not to mention the professor was the KINDEST person ever. The midterms were (really) easy, and the projects were time consuming but WORTH IT because it added to the learning experience(his rubrics were super detailed so you always know what he expects). TAKE THIS CLASS!
This is THE BEST religion class I have taken at BYU. His class requires effort in the assignments, but they really help you learn, and the exams are super easy. I got a 101% in this class with my eyes closed and failed the last religion class I took. Brother Korth is so caring and passionate about the gospel. He really strengthened my testimony.
Brother Korth is absolutely incredible!! The assignments in the class are super easy, and help you in your personal development. He does not give busy work. There was a lot of reading to do, but it was all relevant and worth it for the class. Take this class if you have the chance, you won't regret it!
Easy A. He posts the lecture slides online, so read over those before you take the tests and you'll do fine. I got 103% in the class. He's also a very nice person. There's a fair amount of reading, but it's easy and you don't really have to remember what you read because the things you will be tested over are in the lecture slides. Loved the class.
I think this may have just been the course rather than the professor specifically, but it was an extremely easy course and you get what you put into it. There was almost no stress involved and prof. korth is a fun guy.
Brother Korth is incredible!!! I loved all of his lectures and stories. Such an inspirational professor! He's also so flexible and easily approachable. I can't recommend this class from him enough!
Professor Korth is AMAZING because he truly cares about his students lives and not just their grades. He understands college is stressful and tries to ensure that his class is a spiritual sanctuary where we can grow our testimony and feel the spirit. His broad perspective on families really helps. Do yourself a favor and take his class!!
Brother Korth is the nicest guy, he genuinely cares about your grades and understanding of the material. The class is overall super easy but you learn a ton! I wish he taught more classes I would for sure take a class from him again! There's a lot of reading but I didn't do a single one and ended with 103 in his class.
Super fun professor. It is nearly impossible to fail this class. This would be a great class to take when you have a full schedule because it isn't very time consuming.
Readings were never too long, a few projects that seemed overwhelming at first but were manageable, and tests followed the study guide well (closed note). (Lots of extra credit) Brother Korth is a great guy who cares about his students and works hard to make his class wonderful!
Doctor Korth is a great teacher. He is passionate about the content and he is willing to help. However, his lectures can put you to sleep. If I had to do the course over, I would take it from Doctor Korth. The workload is very manageable and the midterms are based on lecture material so it is easy to prepare for those.
Very nice guy and has a big heart for everyone. As are most religion classes, it is what you put into it. The course was VERY interesting to me honestly and gives a lot of appreciation for the family. Lots of reading and a few other projects on the side but a manageable load.
Bro Korth is a nice guy and this class was really easy. However, if I'm being honest I found it to be a bit boring. I'm not sure how much of that was content or his teaching. He did give some good reading sources however so I feel like a learned a lot from assigned readings. I didn't like the course projects but he graded them easy so that was nice
Really wasn't a fan of this class when it was on-demand. Felt like 4 credits of work for a 2 credit class, Bro. Korth was fine but him and his TAs were hard to get ahold of. Good class content.
Brother Korth is AMAZING!! This is seriously a life-changing class! Completely changed my perspective on dating and marriage. Perfect balance of spiritual and academic. Very intersting class discussions and handles controversial topics perfectly!! Lots of extra credit opportunities. Highly, highly recommend taking this course from him-LOVED IT!
Brother Korth is amazing! As a gay student this is a hard class to take because the topic is sensitive, and while I was offended right off the bat with another professor, I switched to Bro Korth and never got offended a single time! The tests are super easy and the assignments require work but he doesnt grade harshly. Overall, I highly recommend!!
I had this class from Brother Korth in Spring 2020. I reached out to him for clarification on something he was teaching that was false. I was not argumentative or combative, but he never responded, even after I followed up. He is the kind of professor who seems to tackle hard topics within the church, but it's all fake.
Korth is a sweet man. His lectures sometimes felt repetitive and I can't say I LEARNED anything as much as I just had already-known truths compounded by this class. I really appreciated the sensitivity around LGBTQ+ topics. I'm queer and always felt safe in his lectures. He doesn't teach false doctrines, he just teaches with compassion.
Attendance is weighted heavily. It was an easy A. The tests are ridiculously easy, especially with the study guide. A couple of course projects make it more difficult/time-consuming. He often got sidetracked talking about LGBTQ issues, but he just wants everyone to be clear on the doctrine. The LGBTQ people in our class appreciated it a ton.
Not the most entertaining, but very uplifting. Very sensitive towards LGBTQ+, divorce, mental health, and disability topics. Tests were clear and easy, final was just a paper you could write in advance. A few papers required, but if you do them they're pretty much guaranteed an A.
Brother Korth is my favorite professor so far! His class was so amazing. There were a few assignments and papers, but I found them very engaging. His class was very relaxing, you just show up and feel the spirit. Tests are super easy. He is respectful to his students, and makes sure to only teach doctrine. Be sure to take Eternal Families from him!
Brother Korth is great and will teach you a lot about different viewpoints and how to be a better disciple of the lord. But he is very strict about attendance and will only allow 1 or 2 absences before he'll start cutting into your grade. There are also a lot of reading and writing assignments that can pile up pretty quick.
I LOVED this class! At BYU you always are tested on how well you know your religion facts, in this class the tests are all about learning the overall principles and how you should improve, seriously the BEST religion class. Brother Korth is SO sensitive to his students and you can tell how much he cares for all of us.
Lectures are alright, but assignments and tests are pretty easy.
The class was not very hard. The tests are all basically "guess what the professor is thinking"/wants you to think. The lecture material was pretty meh. It was a fairly easy A, but not an enjoyable experience.
I was very unimpressed with this professor and this class. It was entirely run by the TA and full of typos, weird questions, poorly written materials, and unclear assignment instructions. It was easy enough to get an A, but I spent more time guessing about what they were looking for than actually learning anything.
I loved this class so much! I recommend it to EVERYONE!!!! I learned so much and he grades so easy. I felt like I could learn without being stressed about my grade. There is a textbook but it's free and barely used.
Week-long units feel a little rushed, but Bro. Korth makes the effort to consider multiple viewpoints while discussing doctrine. Teaches truth with compassion, very sensitive and caring. Tests were clear - utilize the study guides. if you're a member, not much new knowledge, just sound reaffirmation of core doctrine. Loved the Heavenly Mother unit.
I love professor Korth ! He is the best professor I have had so far! He is caring and super love person. He is understanding and willing to help for your success! Very highly recommended
I thought Professor Korth was an good professor, I had to take his class for the credit and thought it wasn't bad. He is very nice and responds fairly quickly, be ready to read and good luck on the tests, I feel like there is too much reading and random things on the tests. I did his class summer term, but it wasn't very crazy hard.
Loved Korth, but he does end class late, has too many things to do before class, tests are very long, and he has big papers due the same day as all the tests. His class was frustrating because he gives you credit for doing all the work but it's on your honor, so after I worked my butt off to get an A, students who did nothing also got an A:/
Dr. Korth is very good at treading lightly to not offend anyone. However he takes this a little too far and doesn't really say or teach anything in lectures. I was really hoping to learn and feel the spirit in this class, sadly I didn't learn much. Readings were too often not focused on scriptures, apostles, or conference messages.
Dr. Korth is a wonderful professor. Lots of reading before class each week, but the lectures were inspirational and he tried to have student input as much as possible. Tests were reasonable and semi open note, and the final was a 3-4 page essay that was also reasonable. I learned a lot and would absolutely take his class again!
I had a good experience with Brither Korth. I liked how the class felt overall with the tests and the project. With the tests, it would get confusing about what I should have done to prepare, but if you do the review he gives out, you will do great. He does have a lot of information (like really full slides)
Took this as an online class. The lectures in the class are not by Brother Korth. The lectures are boring, long and just entail someone reading words off of the slides. The class is easy enough but just like every other religion class at BYU, is boring, repetitive and ultimately not that great of a class.
I took 2 classes from Bro. Korth (one each semester) as a Freshman at BYU. I was put into a pilot class (UNIV 101) with him by chance but I grew to love him and his teaching style so I took another class. He turned into my favorite Professor and became a father figure to me while I was away from home. Highly recommend him and this class :)
I loved Brother Korth. He is very welcoming and kind. He shares personal experiences that he has had and how they have helped him to grow closer to Christ. Assignments are easy readings that are also enjoyable. Take a class from him and you won't regret it.
For a 2 credit religion class, this class was ridiculously too much. I believe that he is under the assumption that he is teaching a 4 credit class. He requires reading before each class, the tests are around 80 questions long with questions that is like "guess what I'm thinking". The course project is 3 to 4 spaces single-space so get ready.
Love Brian, took it 2022, a lot of slides, informational, super supportive professor. Don't be harsh on him, he is nicccceee
Classes were awesome and my favorite part about this course, but there was a butt-ton of readings (graded on completion) that never really helped you understand class or course material better. Other than that he's an amazing professor that teaches tough concepts very well. Do the work and pay attention and it's a pretty easy A
The class isn't that hard, I was just struggling with depression at the time. He was decently understanding, but I still feel like he cared more about lecturing then students. I remember one student asked a really honest and earnest question one class, something like "Why do we need to be baptized" and he just ignored it, continuing his lecture.
-Long midterms each with a ~600 word essay due along side them, I'd say that's unfair for religion. -Lecture is mostly listening to him ramble about whatever while waiting for the attendance phrase. -He is a nice guy just didn't learn much other than I shouldn't be gay.
