HORRIBLE, dont take him, it was a 100 level class but homework was very time consuming, try reading 30-45 pages before each class, and you have to do it b/c you have to post a response on Vspace before class. NO EXAMS but attendance is mandatory, is not worth it! The instructions for the papers are NOT clear at all. AVOID

Look, Ahn and the student's got screwed in this. He's not a bad guy or a terrible prof, but he was suppose to teach Historical writing and didn't even adequately explain Chicago style citation. Super nitpicky on the exams and project. Not a single person got 100% on the 3 exams and project and will take .05 off for not any good reason. Exams aren't hard as long as you take notes. Weekly discussions that can be up to 20 pages long and are only worth one point. The one project felt like filler work and didn't correlate with class much.

I am not a fan because I don't really like history and had to take this for my gen eds. Overall, class was not too terrible, but he skips through lecture slides very fast and it is hard to keep up, all of the tests are short answer as well. He also seems to enjoy what he teaches, which is nice.

Dr. Ahn is very passionate about what he teaches. His accent is very easy to listen to and if you have trouble his slides have more than enough to cover what he is saying. He grades quite tough for such a low level class and there is very few points available. The class is very easy to pass, but difficult to get an A.

This is a pretty easy class to pass, however he is a very tough grader. Nobody has gotten an A on any of the exams, so if you care about your GPA run. He made me cry after the proposal review by basically telling me I got a bad grade and 70% of the class did better than me. Even after that, he gave no productive advice.

Attendance matters. He only has three total exams and one big paper. Be prepared for different grading scales each time because there is no accuracy each time. He goes off topic a lot. I probably wouldn't take him again.

Professor Ahn is very passionate about what he teaches and is overall a nice and funny guy. Does have an accent, so it can be difficult to understand him at times. Discussions only worth 1 point and there aren't many tests, so do as good as you can on them. Doesn't always provide clear instructions for assignments. Take lecture notes!

Show up, take notes / study the given lecture outlines, don't miss / put off a lot of minor assignments (every point matters) and you'll do fine. Sometimes the assignment instructions / guidelines can be unclear, but all you have to do is ask and he is happy to help. Very in-depth look at the topics covered and interesting lectures.

The material was interesting, and Ahn clearly had a passion for the subject, but his teaching style left a lot to be desired. His lectures would often get lost in context. His expectations for exams and papers were unclear, and his grading is meticulous (I got a 0.9/1.0, for example). There is a group project for this class.

I enjoyed this class, but just be warned that he expects a lot of his students. His grading is very harsh for a gen ed class, to the point that it's a bit ridiculous.

Funny, animated, and will go to great lengths to help you if you ask or approach him during office hours. He cares. As for grading he is tough but fair. Read what he assigns and show up to class and you'll pass easy.

I would never take this class again, Dr.Ahn talks to fast for my liking when it comes to the lectures. His class is boring i've never said that about any history class i've had until now. The class isn't worth anything really. It's actually a waste of time especially if you don't need it for what you're majoring in. It's really just a place holder

The professor has a clear, lecture-based teaching style and explains material effectively. He adds useful detail beyond the slides, and exams reflect what is covered in lecture. The pace can feel fast due to the depth of material.
