she makes caluculus so easy!!
CALC 3 is hard but she explained it very well. She smiles, she's friendly, and is very patient. I highly recommend her on any math class!
Expects a lot from students, but really helps you out. Provides practice exams. Loves to quiz, so you really have to stay on top of it, every day.
Dr. T. is the best math instructor at City college hands down. If you can take her do it. It would be a huge mistake to not take this instructor. She is incredible, phenominal, and extremely nice.
Best Math teacher hands down I have ever had. Is she married?
She is the best teacher you will ever take. Her lectures are great, practice tests are very similar to tests. TAKE DR. THOMAS!!!!
I love Dr. T. She is the best. Take Dr. T, you will learn a lot.
If you like using notes, calculators, and open text for your quizes, test and exams take Math 119 with her, but not Math 116. She is a really good instructor. Hands out review sheets for tests.
Very tough but outstanding teacher. Very helpful, really cares that you understand the material. Quizes every day, tests are hard. She's also cute.
Excellent - I hate Math but actually enjoyed this class. SHe is enthusiastic and helpful - definately the best Math teacher City has.
She's great at presenting the material, but deducts way too many points for repeated errors, even within a problem. So, your best bet is to NOT show all your work if you're rushed for time. Her lectures are worth it, though. She's patient and thorough
Dr. T rocks. She's tough, but fair. She was able to explain the material extremely well, she definately knows her stuff. I would totally recommend any of her classes.
Wonderful teaching style; explains everything and breaks complex ideas into common English;is consistent. Grading, however, is unfair: pays way too much attention to details better left to earlier math. Show LESS work and get docked less for careless err
Dr. T is an excellent, amazing teacher! She is very hard working, dedicated, and caring. She grades quickly and answers questions thoroughly. She is warm, caring, and approachable. I love Dr. T's teaching!!! You will love her, too!!!
Don't take during the summer if you planning on taking more than one class. Quiz everyday. She has her class favorites and skips a lot of steps when solving problems. Doesn't always explain everything. Doesn't curve, doesn't give much partial credit.
You will not find a better math professor than Dr. Thomas. She's very clear during her lectures and very helpful in her office hours. Expect the material to come at you at a fast rate since it's over summer. Overall, the course was challenging.
If math is your entire life, you are not taking any other classes, and you don't have a job - you'll LOVE Dr. T. If, however, you have more going on than a Calculus class - take it at Mesa and use a calculator. Work smarter, not harder.
makes everything simple almost no need to read the book. quizes everyday but tests are easy. highly recommended. one of the best at city.
She has her qualities and she makes herself available. The problem is that she is sarcastic and needs to stop smiling so damn much...she tries too hard to be really nice...I don't recommend her. Oh and if your cellphone goes off she will take points
She makes a simple class really hard. she explains weel and she is sweet and patient, but when it comes to tests, she seems like she wants everybody to hate that class because she makes stupid little tests and concepts really hard dont take her
Tests suck, homework is mandatory (collected for credit) and whoever marked the HOT button for Dr. T is clearly a loser. I was expecting some Hottie!
Wouldn't recommend it, unless you ace math anyway.
One of the best teacher's I've ever had. Take a class with Dr. T. if you can.
if you're like me, dropping math each semester cause you hate the class or the prof is just as clueless as you are in math... then take DR. T! She's very funny and the colored chalk does help between steps! Daily quiz... NO BIG DEAL only 1 PROBLEM and is the EASIEST from whatever section the day be4
Dr. T. is the best Math professor I have ever had. She explains things clearly and thoroughly. She's simply the best that City College has to offer!
Dr. T makes math EASY and FUN. She is the guardian of integrity and the safekeeper of fairness.
Dr. T is an extremely excellent, outstanding teacher. She is kind, helpful, teaches well, answers questions thoroughly, and grades quickly. I feel lucky to have had her as a teacher. She is by far one of the very best teachers I have ever had. Dr. T is amazing!!!
The best professor I've had at City College and the best math teacher I've had ever, anywhere. Extremely clear and patient. Excellent reviews before tests. Open book, open note, open calculator. If you do the homework it's hard to do poorly.
I'm suspiscious that she might be writing her own ratings because she does not allow open notes, tests or calculators. She does the work on board too fast. treats students like children and has this sarcastic smile. she knows her stuff but I'd take someone else unless you are a selfdirected learner
Open note, open book, open calculator IS allowed by the Statistic class. I know that this is the only class that she has this policy with.
Open everything, but dont let that fool you! She goes over things a bit fast, but she's willing to go over something if its not understood. Theyre hard tests, and a quiz EVERYDAY, but you have the chance to drop your lowest test and two quizzes. Don't miss a class or youll fall behind! Good teacher!
She is really good, explains the topics really well. She allowes Open book, notes and calculator in her Statistics class. Tests are hard, even though you can have book and notes open, you need to study a lot. One take one test which is the hardest one! Nice person
She's a wolf in sheeps clothing.Very Cheery. She's not offended if you takeup EVERY officehour, youll need the help. Esp when she'll not pass you with a 69% at the end of the term. Big smile/No heart. Never take 151 in short term. Its not worth it.
She Ok but she does not give any thing free u will get what u erned. She ask for too many homework and only graded as 5% of the class she need to change that and she gave quiz's every day i didn't like that. You could pass the class if u did every homework and study hard for every quiz and test. The class need alot of time out of the class she is B
Dr. T is great. She is very perky but she makes the teachings fun. She does grade pretty hard but I liked her! I'd recommend her if you want to learn. Quiz everyday so you can't miss a class but she has movies, treats and party favors!
Class itself was hard. She helped me throughout the whole class. She is very good teaching and having everyone comprehend the subject. Yes...Quizes given daily that helped when taking test once a week since I had to really know what the class the before was about. Also your Homework counts a little. very meticulis on GRADING TESTS/QUIZES...
you have to work in DR T's class, but she makes it worth it. the material is hard and it takes time to learn it. Keep up on homework, it's a major stress reducer. Her quiz/test questions are usually not too hard, but there is a lot of material in them. Best math teacher at City. Winner of Student Choice Award 2004/ 2005.
Do not trust her for even a moment. Explore all other options for another class. It was the most frustrating class I've ever taken. Sometimes all it takes for a great teacher is someone who gives just a little to the students, slows down a little bit, and helps understanding. This is not that kind of teacher.
VERY EASY!! TAKE HER YOU'LL HAVE A LOT FUN AND PLUS IT'S EASY.
Dr T is an awesome math teacher. She is very helpful and I highly recommend her. Keep up with homework and don't miss classes very often (you will miss quizzes).
Great teacher. I don't think there is a better math teacher at city!
She's is laughing at you, not with you. A genuine heartless sadist. I have had her for 150, 151 & 252, Always got good grades, but beware! If your taking a REAL math course (not 119), go to Mesa! She will annihilate you unless your brilliant.
I think she is writing her own ratings here, she even joked about it in her office hours. She is way too hard unless your taking math 100 or 119. Quizzes every day, takes off alot of points on tests for little things even if you get the right answer and show work. She is mean and a fake.
She is NOT easy! she is very very hard. She said she was writing her own reveiws cuz she said so...
easy fun and helpfull ???? who are they kidding ? this has got to be the hardest prof you will ever take. honestly, don't take her, don't trust her, take smith instead.
I think Dr. T is a fortunate addition to the staff at City College. She expects a lot out of you (Cell phone turned off, attendance) but also wants to see you succeed and even offers Extra Credit (unusual in Math). Cool teacher- she and Dr. Smith are the gems of the math department!
I had to drop this class at Mesa the previous semester because I was struggling. Dr. T was a breath of fresh air! She is enthusiastic and wants you to succeed. I don't like calculus, but I genuinely enjoy her class, I highly recommend it.
all i can say is ****!
Looks are deceiving. She is an attendance and grade nazi. Miss two classes fail, and she counts for half classes missed. A quiz every class except test days. She nickel and dimes your grade to nothingness. If this is your only class and you don't work a full time job you can pass, but otherwise avoid her.
Dr. T is an EXCELLENT teacher.Very enthusiastic and she makes things look clear and easy by the way she explains them.I don't think there is another teacher like her.BUT yes she is very strict. She expects a lot from you.HARD grader! She will take off a point from your test if you don't dot your I's.Take her if you want to LEARN! Don't if ur lazy!
Dr. Thomas is hands down the best teacher at City College. She is demanding and truly teaches you math. She makes learning fun and interesting. If you really need to learn math any level, take Dr. T. Run don't walk to this professors class! You won't regret it.
Dr.Thomas is a great teacher. I took this class last semester and got an F. I have a B average in her class. She makes stats fun because she jokes around with her students. Take her if you want to understand stats and get a good grade. Very helpful. Worksheets and study guides are very very helpful.
This teacher is GREAT!!! I have taken Stats three times before this and I HATED IT. I actually learned in this class and I am currently holding a B average. This teacher is GREAT and I would recommend her to anyone who is struggling in Statistics. If you take good notes you will get good grades in this class.
Dr. Thomas is a great teacher. No curve balls on her tests and very fair grading. If you do the work you can get a good grade. Highly recommended!
Dr. Thomas, is a very fair and understanding teacher, not like some of the math teachers at City. She will help you understand the course until she is blue in the face. She has opened up difficulties for me in Math, but I did learn a great deal from her about Math 121. There's a quiz every class except on test days.
I work 40+ a week. Took 150 alone during the summer; easy. Took 151 with 3 other classes (14 units) in the fall; challenging. Daily homework, but if you do it you will have no problem with the daily quiz. Exams are challenging, but her review tests are outstanding. If you understand the review test, you should do fine on the exam. Best prof at City
She is the best math instructor I have ever met in life. She has a very efficient technique of teaching for the students to understand the subjects. She put a big effort to teach everyone what she knows. Extremely recomended .. God Bless Dr.T!! :)
She is simply too hard & too strict for REAL math classes. Don't listen to her school-girl 119 fan club and the 141 weenies. If you are taking an actual college level math class she will ruin your grades. Getting a "C" on an integral calculus test for missing an expression parenthisis even with the right answer and work is just nit-picking garbage.

Orgonized, Very Comprehancible. Awsome grading system. Take her you won't be sorry. Just dont miss any school time.
The BOMB!!! She's great at explaining calculus to dumbasses like myself. I highly recommend her.
She is the best !!! She is not easy, but all you have to do is do your homework and then every class that she gives a quiz you will past...(usually 1-2 super easy questions). Calculus ain't easy, but she surely makes it like it is 2+2. Believe me if you are taking Calculus, just take her...I wish i could take all my math clases with her...
Took her Su' 06. She's aight but it was hard to focus because I lost my summer. However, when I did focus she was actually really good. She's hardcore organized and does everything she claims to (ringing phones). You get quizzes everyday which aren't necessarily difficult IF you did the homework. She offers EC and really wants you to do well.
Hot? Come on... Very condescending, and only acts the part of caring. I earned an A but that doesn't make her a good teacher or person.
66 ratings, possibly the most of any teacher here. Average ease of 2.6 ... even when you factor in the numerous times she rated herself ... that pretty much says it all.
Quizzes daily (1 or 2 very easy questions directly from the easier sections of the homework). Study guides for exams that are simply exams from the past and are very reflective of what will be on the actual exam. In addition, similar to the quizzes, the exams are generally the easiest questions from the homework assignments.
She's very knowledgeable. However, this doesn't mean that she can teach well. She'll do a problem so you see how it's done, however usually rushes through everything before anyone can write down what happened, and won't do complex problems on the board. Quizzes every day. Rigid on grading and notation; good luck to anyone who has to take her.
stay out of her, she mean and very bad grader, her tests are hard and would not help you at all, i took her class after reading some of the comments here but i regreted, if you ask her question she think its easy she will laugh at you, as i said again stay away from her unles you are very good at math
Best math teacher ever! she is very helpful before tests. If you miss a class you do get a bit lost since she goes over many things in one day. other than that she is great
An amazing professor who went above and beyond. All grades are posted on her own web site and she has amazing office hours. Very well organized and no surprises. She makes math a little more fun than it probobly should be! Great classroom teacher, just pay attention and ask questions!
If I take another math class, I want Dr T for my instructor.
Dr. T was my 'instructor' for the on-line course. She answered all of my e-mails quickly and made herself available in her office when I got too confused. The online classes are hard and you need to motivate yourself to keep up. She made taking the class as simple as possible.
Required to turn in HW. Would have learned more and done better if not. Problems arbitrary, do not reflect lecture or exam, take so much time that not enough time to study problems which would have helped. She admits text book is bad and problems badly written, yet didn't seem to care to compensate. However, she's nice and helpful in office hours.
shes a great teacher everything is clear with her gives you practice tests that are just like the problems on the real test...and complaining about her strictness on attendance??? that is lame because its math and you need to see it happening unless ur a genuis..
Lectures WAY too fast, you either watch her do the problem or write it down, for me it's impossible to do both and grasp the concept. OBSESSED with math, it IS her world. For those of us who don't have an masochist-erotic relationship to math she is hard to relate to. Easiest part of her class was the **ExtraCredit essay on Alt. Energy**
Thomas is a remarkable teacher. She is tough, but fair. If you want to become the best at math you'll ever be, take her course. You will have to work, but you'll end up knowing more than ever. I love every minute of her class. She's very relaxed, and she enjoys class participation. Don't be afraid to shout n when you see, n! she'll laugh.
Honesty I hate math. But she makes it very interesting and fun. I would have loved to take her for summer semester but unfortunatly she wont be teaching! Highly recommended!
Dr. T is awesome, very helpful and understanding. Very funny, so she makes learning fun. I absolutely hated math prior to taking her class. Now I see it as a challenge that I can master and she helped me earn those tools which will help me master it.
Great professor to approach and ask for help. Her tests are very easy, provided that you do all of the homework. She also offers lots of extra credit, which are all very easy to do. She's strict about cell phones ringing in class and will not hesitate to deduct points from your overall test scores. Her math nerdisms are also very cute. :)
She knows the material but goes through the lecture a little too fast for me and also strict with math notation. Really nice professor and is fair with grading. Say "its okay" alot. Overall, recommended
Do not be fooled by these nice comments she is very different. I took her because of what I read here and ended up regretting it. She is not very clear and does not like to elaborate on the material, beware of you ask her too many questions she tends to get mad and says she has something to do, her dogs and trips are front and center not math
A Great online experience. Interactive videos, helpful hints and step by step walkthroughs through even the most difficult problems. It's all organized very well through Course Compass. Finally conquered my math phobia with this class, though it wasnt easy.Lots of studying,She stays on top of the boards, is very accessable, and offers extra credit.
I took her class online. The instructions were simple enough and she always answered her emails the same day that they were sent. During the course, she sends emails to check up on everyone or to announce that a certain test or hmwk assignment is due. But, on the final you need to score a 36/60, just remember to go to the tutorial center!
She gives quizzes & worksheets everyday but you arent allowed to use your notes or calculator on quizzes or tests. Thats the reason why I had to withdraw from her class b/c i need notes! So if you also struggle in math i recommend you dont take her class.
Doctor Thomas is a reliable teacher when it comes to leaching math. Whenever someone in class isn't clear on how to solve a problem she goes over it until the person gets it. Showing up in her class is vital, because missing a days work of notes will severely hurt you. But then again she is always willing to help during her office hours.
Thomas is pretty clear in her lectures. Very helpful during office hours. There is a quiz every class session (except test days). You need to keep up with the homework to do well on the quizzes. Attendance is mandatory. DO NOT TEXT, SURF THE WEB, or RECEIVE A PHONE CALL during lecture; she will take points off immediately from your quiz.
Not a good teacher for those who struggle with math. She goes way too fast! You have to be dedicated and work really hard. There are quizzes everyday and two math hw sec. per day. Too much to handle. Her grading formula isn't quite fair. I believe it's too harsh. Another thing, she's a little too sarcastic. I regret taking her class.
She is a super amazing teacher and always willing to go over anything you need help with! one thing for sure is she does not mess around with attendance.
I enjoyed being in her class. She has a great personality and sense of humor, but she is VERY strict when it comes to attendance(SHE WILL DROP YOU) There is a lot of homework, and was so overwhelmed that i stopped doing it,but still passed her class with a C
BEST MATH TEACHER EVER!! i swear my whole class loves her! yes we have quiz's every day but we go over problems before and the quiz's are only 1 or 2 problems!! always goes over everything twice if you dont get it. enthusiastic about teacher and thats a plus! I never though id be rating a professor but she well deserves it! take her!!
Smart & funny. Found myself withdrawing from her class. Extremely strick, like outragiously. Regardless of getting answers correct on tests/quizzes if you dont label everything regardless if its is significant or not she will dock points. Brainstorming on tests, if you write it incorrectly she marks of points. Doesn't explain throughtly & fast pace
Professor Thomas' online course is well-organized. All the due dates are strict. You will be working with Mymathlab program. Go to Study Plan section before Quizzes and Tests and review everything. This way you will do well on the tests. Tests are exactly like study plan. HW due every Saturday, Quizes or Tests -due every Sunday.
Prof T is so used to solving math problems that she has lost the ability to solve practical problems. Her top priority is finishing the text book and not the success of her students. Math is the most difficult of all subjects, therefore should be taugh slower than all other subjects. Not faster. She simply does not see the big picture of education.
TERRIBLE. Only cares about finishing the book. Does not take the time to work out the entire problem. Does not allow calsulators on tests. Quiz's take place everyday. She is nice, but is terrible at teaching. Started with a class of 25-30-Ended with no more than 8.
I never do reviews about anything. This one I had to. Please think twice about taking her for any math class and read all reviews. She is a very nice lady, but unfortunately is not a good teacher She doesn't explain herself all the way through the problems and makes you feel even worse when you question about an easy problem. She grades very strict
I took the online course and even though it was relatively easy, you had to put a lot of work into it. The problem was the final, I had an A going into the final but failed it leaving me with a D! Its not that the final was hard, just don't have a bad day going into the final because this final reflects your whole grade!
There is a simple formula: attend her class + take notes + do homework!!! (odd numbers at least) + ask her for help during office hours or at the beginning of every lecture = you will not be surprised what to expect on a quiz/test and you will get a good grade. Taking this class with professor Thomas is difficult, but it is definitely worth it! :)
She is an amazing professor. Her lectures help me can handle any problem from easy to hardest. Taking her class, studying hard, doing homework, reviewing lectures, having quiz everyday, and you will get A ^^
Great math professor. Enthusiastic and engaging. She wont let you slack your way to a passing grade, but if you're looking to actually learn the material you wont be disappointed. She may move a bit fast for some students, but if you go to her office hours regularly the pace shouldn't be a problem.
This woman knows to have fun with all her students. She keeps you aiming high. Quiz every class keeps you up to date. Office hours is one big study party.
My first "W" in my whole life. She goes through the material too quickly and wastes time making unnecessary talk about her life. I will never recommend this teacher, you are way better of taking this class with anyone else. There are no notes or calculators on tests. No retakes, grades harshly. Teaches poorly and not willing to change for students.
The cheat sheet I made for the test in this class has proven to be an asset to my daily calculations. No better person to teach Diff Eqz, none other than Dr. T.
Moves way too fast and is more worried about covering every single section on her syllabus than taking time to explain things deeper. Doesn't explain steps and assumes you have the same thought process as her. Always wants to make you feel like she's smarter than you. Talks about irrelevant stuff in class. Tries to act fun, but it really annoying.
I personally cannot recommend taking her class. Regardless of how well you do in the actual class, the final can give you a D or F if you don't earn a certain grade on it. There are no notes, calculators, or books on the final exam and it is unlike anything presented in the online portion of the class. Do not take this class.
Having already earned an undergraduate degree, I've had many professors in my time and this one should be avoided at all costs. If she spent more time actually teaching instead of randomly talking about cats or people outside the window, she might be a D at best. In one class, I tallied 33 times she brought up irrelevant things. 13 class dropped!
She was super nice and helpful. She gives out helpful practice tests that help you study for the actual test and she's always there to help.
hilarious, at times sarcastic ( in a funny way, not rude at all). 3 tests, 1 final, quiz every class meeting, no homework and 1 extra credit opportunity . very talented and SMART lady. text book is not mandatory but its a must have for your own good, lol.
Extremely nice teacher, very to the point. Quiz's every day, no homework (strongly recommended you do homework questions) and her office hours are a big study group. Type of teacher to guide you to the answer not solve it for you. Do homework problems, ask questions, be prepared for the quizzes, and attend all of her office hours and you'll be fine
This is THE WORST teacher I've ever had! She DOES NOT care about her students, CAN NOT explain material but jus rewrites same examples from textbook. It would be more helpful if she explained material instead of talking about cats or do chair racing in the middle of the class! She is SUPER strict. NO extra credit. NEVER take this teacher!!!!
She's decent- not the best professor, but not the worst either. She's 'reasonably' fair and semi straight forward. Daily quiz (1 question on previous lecture) at the start of lecture with no make up if you missed it. (You can ask to take it early). Gives practice exams and (rarely) extra credit opportunities. Goes off topic, but not so bad I think?
Uses MyMathLab. One homework assignment and quiz per week, homework due Saturdays at midnight, quiz to be done by Sunday at midnight. Two chances per quiz/test!! Three tests, one on-campus final. For the final you get to use a cheat sheet, double sided! As long as you do the homework and learn the stuff, you'll be good to go!
Online class. Dr. Thomas gave quick responses to inquiries and was helpful in every way. She even submitted my issues with the goofy text to the publisher and copied me on the responses. I hope my 96 prof is as professional.
It doesn't matter how well you did all semester, if you fail the final, you fail the class. I'd suggest CLEP it before considering taking this class. She does not care that her grading doesn't add up correctly. Homework, quizzes, tests, and the final are all averaged and over 100 pts yet an A in everything except the final still results in a D
Dr. Thomas: Difficult professor lvl 100. Best Math teach @ City College. Best lectures by far A+. Entertaining class A+. Test are terribly difficult. :( She expects alot out of her Calc 3 students. If you want the A go take some other professor. If you are serious about Math and want to learn take Dr. Thomas. Many people have failed her. Beware.
Dr. Thomas test q's are not the worst I've had to deal with. Need to know you ln's and e's. Book homework is not turned un or graded. Test are 50%, in class exercises 5% (just show up for class), homework portfolio are done at end of class on board (easy 15%), final 30%. Nice grading system for gpa av.. Math is a pain regardless of the professor.
It doesn't matter what you have actually worked for in the course if you have a bad day when taking the final, because you have to get a 60% or higher on the final in order to receive an A, B or C in the course. Thanks for wasting my semester and potentially ruining my chance to transfer to a university.
I tried taking this class online during the winter session since I felt it was doable if the professor made lecture videos or provided notes (since she is a professor and professors teach). However, it was an online course and homework, & quizzes, were taken on Mymathlab. You learn on your own. She did not teach AT ALL. Horrible online professor.
Easy class. Homework usually has 30-50 questions, then quizzes are usually around 20 questions. Due every Sunday.
Statistics is an awful subject, but she does a great job of making it less awful. Most of the work is done with calculators. She is hilarious and does a great job of explaining the material, and is extremely accessible outside class.
This professor is awful, I have never had problem with any professors or math in general. SHE DOES NOT EXPLAIN!! This professor expects you to know everything and she thinks that you are a genius b/c you are in a calc class. Her tests are exteremly difficult. DO NOT TAKE HER. I had to drop her and now I have a W on my transcript thanks to her.
There is not calculators allowed. she does not explain things. she will look at you as if you are stupid if you havent learned all the material. If you are trying to get an A do not take her. Her tests are nothing like the study guides and she gives 50-60 or more questions of hw for each ch. she will also not tolerate phones (even the sound)
This person should not be able to teach. she thinks everyone should know everything. Doesn't explain things. No calculators allowed. Lots of hw.
Professor Thomas is very clear in his grading criteria. I took Math 96 (online) with him and he relies heavily on MyMath Lab (which is a great tool to learn by yourself). You have until the end of the semester to finish all homework and you can always re do HW. Quizzes are a big thing and are on a weekly basis. Expect to work to earn your grade.
She says the midterm is optional, which is supposedly extra credit. So, if you were to not do it, then it shouldn't count against you. Yet, it does! It was included in the total number of points, which lowered my average. Also, she added 100 mysterious points to the total which further skewed my grade. I told her this and she didn't listen. Beware.
