Great prof. overall, she makes biology interesting and she knows her stuff
great teaching, moderately hard tests, learned a lot. good for lab, too. easy to talk to.
She helps and expects that you learn, won't curve
Very thorough, tests are a bit hard, wants you to learn, and will help whenever she can. Sensible and reasonable too.
Incredible teacher. Has so much knowlege, and truly wants us to succeed. Very tough though. Tests are very detailed. Read the chapter and study hard!!! Good luck!
Good teacher. The tests are hard. Read the book. Go to study sessions. Do your tickets. Shes a wonderful person.
Teaches at a level beyond beginning Physio. Test at are given at graduate level. Unrealistic expectations. Take this class a community college.
I agree, take this class somewhere else. Presents material well..but look out for the tests. You will have to be a grad student to be able to answers the questions. Our entire class has a "D" or below because of tests.
Like Physio? Not after this class. This professor will take the wind out of your sail. QUESTION? If you fail and entire class? Are you a good teacher?
The class structure was clear from the beginning, expectations and difficulty were given at the beginning. Takes test material primarily from notes, with few questions from book-only material. Very helpful before and after class, and clear when teaching. Recommended by Freshman Honors Student.
Pretty tough class. Very smart professor. You have to work hard at this one though.
She is quite intimidating at first, but if you choose to let her know who you are, she is a really nice lady. Prays in each class. Incredible example. Is a hard teacher, but if you do the work you'll really know the material. Lectures every class. Usually interesting. Very good teacher.
DONT NOT TAKE!!! I AM TELLING YOU>> DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER>> it not a good teacher at all.
Very hard prof, but interesting. Tests are the hardest part and are too short to fully test your scope of knowledge, but if you read the book informations before it is lectured on, you will benefit so much more from lecture. Ask questions! She is very willing to give independent help.
very well educated woman. she wants to help you. its hard. PREREAD!!! study a lot for tests. talk through the material in study groups. she's passionate and wants you to understand it, but there is no way to make the material easier. i liked her class a lot.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! I do not know who is writing the infor below, but it must be the professor because not one soul enjoys this class.
Her tests are hard! Beware...if you think you've studied enough...you haven't! But she's very nice
Professor Shrier is the best teacher I have ever had!She knows how to teach! If you follow what she tells you to do,you will really really learn the material and be able to pass the tests. This class is the most work I have ever had, but its so worth it. All the people below who said that she is horrible probably didn't want to put the work into it.
HORRIBLE TEACHER. Does not care if fails entire class. and i agree.. i do not know who is writing all these comments saying that the clsss enjoys her, because it is the complete OPPOSITE. I would just take this class at a community college to avoid her.
Very caring of her students and helpful in wanting you to do well.
dr. shrier is awesome. she always explains things in detail and asks alot of questions that help embed things in your memory. i highly recommend her bio class. =)
HATED IT - can't stand taking a class when the teacher can't answer the students questions. She's a doctor?? You'd never know it. Students ask questions that were in the assigned reading and she still didn't know the answer!
She's such a sweetheart...there were times last year when she would cry because she's got such a tender heart. She's very tough, but brings great visuals to help her students. She's totally willing to help and if you go to discussion, it'll help if you have additional questions. She loves God, and she loves students...her class is just very hard!!
She is an amazing person, and a great teacher. she has aa heart for the subject, and always makes sure you know what she is talking about, so ask questions in class. She WILL help you, i really enjoy her class!!
he is sucha sweet person. Although the class is difficult, she makes it worth while and highly understanable. The only thing that bases your grade are your tests; which are strictly off lecture, notes and brief summary of book. She is so helpful and makes you feel really smart. She is always incuraging you to do better and wants you to succeed!!!
She is a very good teacher and knows her stuff. Very smart lady, but yes, she is very hard.
Good, but hard.
She's very clear on what she expects from you. Everything is in syllabus - no surprises. Have to do well on tests to do well in class. Works with students to help them out. REALLY enjoys what she does!
GREAT lecture outlines, clear but long lectures. tests are easier than anatomy. upbeat, loves what she does. will NOT NOT NOT let u make up the tests; dont miss them!
I love Doctor Shrier! She is really hard but do-able. She explains things really well and gets you excited sbout the subject! So much easier than anatomy! Do not be freaked out thinking this class is going to be to hard becasue she is such a good teacher and will help you though anything!
Dr. Shrier was tough but very concise. You can tell she has such a soft heart; She WANTS you to succeed...But its up to you. She uses a lot of visual aids which is very helpful. Tests are tough and sometimes tricky, but not as hard as anatomy. Her outlines are the key! STUDY THEM inside and out.
Shrier is a great teacher! she is so helpful and explains things very well. this class is demanding no matter who teaches it, but its do able with shrier. she gives great outlines of the chapters and memorizing them will get you a good grade on the tests. she is very knowledgeable and cares out you and your grade. take her for physiology lecture!
She's a really cool person and I learned A LOT from her class.
I'm fine with the teacher as a person, but as a teacher, not so much. She only gives tests and has no assignments making the hard tests your only grade. The average on the last test was a D, the information is moved through too quickly. Don't take this class unless your absolutely brilliant, or like studying 24/7.
Study HARD for this class. The tests are all of your grade. Take notes! If you listen to her study tips at the beginning of the semester, you'll do all right.
Dr. Shrier is an incredible professor. I absolutely loved her. She is very informative, and she has dumb but funny memory devices. She comes off as harsh at first, but she is truely warm-hearted. I would take ANY class she was teaching, just to have her again! Although, make sure you read before class, and do the homework!
Shrier is a great teacher. She does have a heart for the students. This class is going to difficult whoever teaches it. it's alot of information jammed into a short period of time. Shrier cares for the students who try. YOU MUST READ THE CHAPTERS BEFOREHAND.
She is an amazing teacher!!! She is so helpful but make sure you can take notes like no other because she RUNS through the material. Otherwise, her class definitely made my day every day!
Take someone else for lab (I hear sommers was good) you'll have a better chance of bringing up your overall grade. Her tests are pretty hard and I never figured out how to do well on them. About half the class got D's or worse on all of the tests so know the material inside and out.
Great teacher. Her tests are confusing, but they are on her notes, so KNOW the notes and their application. She gives tricks for memorizing concepts and overall wants you to succeed; however, in the end success is dependent on you.
She was not helpful and she was not an encouraging teacher. I would not recommend anyone take her.
Shrier, is nice go in and review your past exams!
Shrier is very knowledgeable about the material but has a habit of having to speed through it in a short time. Overall it was a challenge but worth the time. Make your own notes from the book and use the course pack to your advantage.
Dr. Shrier is one of the best professors I've had. Physiology is difficult and she expects a lot, but she is very good at explaining things. There's a lot of material to cover and not enough time. Go to discussion, review your notes, "go tell someone on the street what you learned in class today" and manage your time well! Dr. Shrier rocks!
Really nice professor. Uses an overhead for notes and goes pretty fast, but she is very helpful! She also has some quirky ways to help you with memorization. Overall good professor!
Difficult class. Shrier goes really quickly and doesn't always test on the material she lectures on. Some people really gelled with her teaching technique but I really didn't.
Shes a nice lady and is helpful. She goes through the matrial really quick and some stuff on the test isnt always taught in lecture so make sure that read. All in all not a bad class at all but you have to put the time in to study1
I am currently in Shrier's Biology 1 course. She is an amazing professor. Very professional and proficient in the subject. She goes over curriculum very fast, one chapter a day. I have got all A's on her exams, but I have studied really hard for all of them. Hint for studying is to READ THE BOOK then take notes in her lectures.
Tough class, but she does all she can to help you understand. Make sure you go to every class, otherwise you WILL fall behind. Overall, if you read the book and study her lecture notes, you'll get an A.
Such a great professor. Her lectures are clear and so are her tests. If you study the book and her notes, you will be successful in her class. She really cares for her students to learn and do well. You will not regret taking her class.
Wonderful is all I can say abou this professor. Extremly clear. Tells you what you what you will need to know for a test, teaches you that (throws in a few helpful analogies here and there!), and that's that! No unnecessary work to keep you occupied. Just make sure to keep up with the reading!
She is a good teacher and so reasonable! Make sure you write down everything she says during lecture! take good notes and you'll do great.
She uses every type of learning methods during lecture. She is clear and does not try to use trick question. Great during office hours, take advantage. Demonstrates Christian characteristics. Take her over the others, trust.
hard class, make sure you READ THE BOOK, its a lot of info, but it really helps. Her tests can be difficult, just read the book and go over the lecture notes throughout each week. Getting a B is very possible, an A is pretty difficult to achieve but can be done
She's a nice professor. helpful when you have questions. Even though you hear that she is easiest prof for 151 BEWARE. she is unclear at times in lecture & on exams. Her tests are not much easier. She doesnt use powerpoints and quickly goes through the pictures she puts up. I believe the other professors r a little harder but prepare u better.
Professor Shrier is one of the best Biology professor that I have had so far. She's a hard professor but that's because she teaches everything very well. You need to read the book in order to keep up your grade. She is very clear and explains everything very well, so she expects you to know everything she teaches in the class. Highly recommended
Very straightforward, and really nice. Material is easy, but the tests are killer. Don't expect an A. You can't just know the material, you need to fully understand the concepts behind it. Uses overhead for notes and talks quick, be aware. Lectures are VERY helpful and attendance is part of your grade. Workload is fair.
Shrier is a good teacher but her class is tough. Make sure you study a week in advance. Tests are every two weeks.
Dr. Shrier is a very knowledgeable professor. Her tests are hard, so study and find a study buddy if you can. Do the reading; I can't stress that enough. Review your lecture notes.. really review them. You'd be surprised at how much you will remember for the tests. She makes you work for your grade but it's worth it!
Make sure you read before class--and they are long chapters. The best way to do well on the tests is to know--forwards and backwards--every bullet point on the lecture notes. She will also take matching questions from the homework and put them on the test. Also, highlight anything she says twice. This class was hard, but my favorite this semester.
A very knowledgeable professor who cares for her students. Make sure you take good notes and read. Expect everything from lecture to be on the exams. If you have questions, ask. Make sure you do otherwise you'll fail her exams. Honestly, her exams are not hard if you study and study correctly. I would recommend taking her class.
In my opinion she was a professor who did not teach well but expected students to do well in spite of how she taught. After a day or two in her class, I dropped her because I saw that she was quick to fail students. I switched to another Biology teacher and did well and enjoyed the class!
She is a really great and knowledgable professor. Her lectures have a lot of visuals and are very clear. Her tests are usually straight forward, and reading the book is essential to getting a good grade on the tests.
Shrier's physiology class is one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. You HAVE to use the textbook and study really hard in order to get a good grade. There is no extra credit, no curving, and no study guides. But I do owe her one because since I studied so hard the information really stuck with me and I learned a TON
Shrier was my fav teacher the class is HARD but you cant hate her bc she is a great teacher. You will learn how to read and study for her class. Dont miss class and review all her notes every day. Record the lecture you will be thankful you did she goes very fast. Take advantage of office hours she will make sure u understand b4 u leave. TAKE HER
Love her. Some of the lectures can be a bit dense but pay attention and you have to write down what shes saying because it's about the slides. Tests are based off lectures and follow her study tips. Sit toward the front if you can because the know-it-alls answer the questions and it helps you learn .TAKE HER
Dr. Shrier is a great person and professor, but taking her for Physiology was really difficult. She uses the old projectors, so she doesn't have any PowerPoints to share that could help you study. You use the textbook fairly often, and if you miss one day of class, it's extremely difficult to catch back up. If you're ready for a challenge, take her
She teaches you what you need to know for the next couple of years. Grade is determined by tests that are very lecture-heavy. Attendance is mandatory but go anyway since every day is valuable information on the tests. As a stem major, she's great at showing you expectations for a science major. She teaches well and makes you remember it.
Grade is determined by tests that are very lecture-heavy. Attendance is mandatory but you wouldn't want to be absent for the amount of information that is given to you. Rewrite your notes, record lectures and listen to them the same night! As a nursing major, it is a well-manageable class and difficulty was expected! Go to SI sessions!
Shrier is one of the best professors I have ever had. I learned more in this class than I have in any other class. She is extremely lecture heavy, and they are very dense. You have to come to class and be ready to pay attention. Very challenging and you will definitely need to study. However, Shrier is great and its doable if you are wiling to work
Shrier is incredibly knowledgeable and authoritative in her field. Her tests are TOUGH, definitely go to the TA study sessions if offered, but her lectures are clear and interesting. Great teacher, but lots of work.
Really pay attention in her class and take good, GOOD notes. She can go through the material really quickly and it helps if you clarify things over the SI study sessions offered and in her office hrs. Be prepared to give it your all in this class. All her tests are multiple choice so it's either a hit-or-miss. Read textbook before class. Ucandodis.
Lectures are incredibly hard to follow. Supplemental study is essentially required due to how hard her class is.
Professor Shrier is a very nice woman but her teaching style did not work for me. She rushed through lecture and made it very hard to actually learn the material. I was a bio major but I changed because of her. Has unnecesary tickets don't help you. I did fairly well on tests but since that was the only thing she graded, I didn't get a C.
Dr. Shrier is such an amazing professor! Although her class is very difficult, she makes you want to learn the material & she genuinely cares about how you're doing & gives you great feedback. This class is rather test heavy, so make sure you study up!! I found that detailed outlines helped me more than notecards did.
Shrier is THE BEST. I loved taking BIO 151 from her. Shrier knows what she is talking about and is almost always clear with her explanations. She teaches with a projector and she's hilarious. The class was quite difficult, but if you record the lectures and take extra time to listen to them and study terms and concepts, you'll pass this class.
Shrier is the absolute best! Yes, her class can be very difficult because there is a lot of material to be covered, but you can get through her class as long as you pay attention, take notes, record lectures, and take extra time to study topics discussed. Tests are going to be difficult, so you will really have to study. Shrier is caring and fun.
Dr. Shrier is an amazing professor overall. Her lectures are dense but they are clear and interesting. I recommend recording the lectures and listening to them soon after the lecture while rewriting the notes (adding anything you may have missed) She makes you work for your grade on exams so you really have to know the material. Highly recommend!!!
Dr. Shrier is a sweet, caring and funny woman, who prays for everyone before every class. Her classes are very lecture heavy though, so take good notes, attend EVERY class (don't ever skip!), attend SI, and study hard before exams because that's pretty much the only grades you'll get for this class (not a lot of hw, just textbook reading).
Shrier is so great and knowledgeable about the subject however her class was really difficult and lecture-heavy. Record and relisten to the lectures because little details she mentions will show up on the test. If you're willing to work hard and you really want to learn, take this class! You will not regret it and you will learn so much.
Dr. Shrier was very passionate with Physiology. However, her exams? Boy did it take me until the 4th exam to actually get down how she tests you. You NEED to record her lectures and write down every single detail she mentions and memorize. Every exam theres at most 4 As. Although I was not successful with an A, I passed, but truly learned so much
Take someone else. You do your best and spend long hours studying to get a C.
Dr. Shrier is the best instructor I've ever had. Her class is TOUGH!! I woudl only take her class if you truly love science and feel passionate enough to work hard for your grade. Taking AP Bio before hand makes it easier. Her class is structured to cover the maximum amount of information possible. Review within 24 hr, it is actually a lifesaver!
Dr. Shrier is a teacher you grow to love. She's tough, the class is very difficult, but you leave knowing so much valuable information. She can be intimidating, but she cares about you. Go to SI, and if you have questions, ask her. She is so caring and understanding when you approach her individually.
She lectures super fast. She teaches the material in a way where she is teaching it to herself. She doesn't do the best job at dissecting the material where the class can completely understand and reciprocate the information. No study guides and she didn't allow to use past exams/quizzes to study
Doesn't have the best slides. Also, you may be tested on things she said that might not be on the slides nor in the book. Your grade mostly relies on the exam scores! I found her class challenging honestly and you can only review your exam again with her.
Dr. Shrier is a good professor because she is really organized and explains things in good detail. Her lectures are really info-packed so pay attention and take good notes. She is very willing to help so tell her if you're confused and ask questions in class. The final was an essay, but most of your grade will come from the 5 multiple-choice tests
Dr. Shrier takes attendance, so missing class will result in absences, impacting the participation grade. She has students repeat concepts out loud and stresses reviewing new concepts. Her exams are fair but require deep knowledge of topics and being able to relate them to past material. She listens to concerns & will work with you to address them.
If you need an elective avoid Neurobio and pick something else. It's relatively new and it hasn't had good results in the past 3 semesters. The class average for one test was F & nothing was done by the prof. to address it. Most of the students struggled but she didn't want to discuss it in class & there aren't office hours except by appt. online.
There are many things to be said about Bio 326, but the main takeaway is that if you need a 4 unit elective to graduate DO NOT CHOOSE NEUROBIOLOGY! Lecture consists of images that are interpreted by Shrier, but she tends to contradict herself. And she is difficult to reach outside of class because her office hours are by appointment only.
If you can, try your best to avoid Neuro. There seemed to be a lack of communication between the lab and lecture professors and it did not work in the student's favor. And when we tried to ask for help, we were simply told to find time to meet during office hours; yet Shrier is only available by appointment only which made it hard to reach her.
Her teaching style is a bit difficult to get a grasp of. This was one of the hardest classes I took this semester and I could not get a hang of the material quick enough. Lab was pretty easy since that was what was familiar yet lecture was a different story. In short take another elective.
I took Dr. Shrier for gen bio my freshman year. I was worried because it was my first semester of college online. Lectures felt very long and had a lot of details in them. Exams were also kind of tough as they require you to know a lot of information. Make appointments with her and go over your exams, it will help a lot. She is a caring woman.
Dr. Shrier was one of the most influential professors in my academic journey to becoming a medical doctor.
I had Shrier for lab, and I felt like sometimes her quizzes did not align with what we learned in lecture (I had Saleh for lecture), and she sometimes made her quizzes with ALL lecture content and no lab. She is great at explaining things, but just be prepared to make educated guesses on the majority of her lab quizzes.
The class is hard itself and she teaches at a quick pace. But, she is an awesome person. Anytime you need help, are struggling, etc., she will make time for you. She will go out of her way to make sure you understand. I had her for lab and lecture and would recommend her over the other instructors for sure.
Shrier is an amazing professor! Although she talks fast, her explanations are clear and easy to understand. It's important to review the content she goes over the night she taught it, as it makes it much easier to remember. Her exams are straightforward as long as you take the time to understand the concepts instead of just memorizing them.
She is very lecture heavy don't recommend taking if you need better slides to look at also you have to pay attention test will be given on stuff she hasn't even gone through be prepared take my word for it
