Fun class. Very serious on his stuff. Knows what he's doing and is very helpful. 1 problem about class: books are expensive. You have to buy about 12 plays. He's a great guy though!
Neat-o, but weird.
Speech class sucks in itself, regardless of teacher. He is a great teacher though. Has a good command of subject. You don't have to buy any books. You give, I think 5 speeches, must dress-up for them. Impromptu is a little difficult. Lets you use notecard on final and is open to curving your grade.
He is not understanding sometimes but he is pretty nice! He makes giving speeches easier! Pretty lenient if you want a speech class to take, this is the class for you!
don't take his classes!!!
Didn't learn anything in his class. He shows favorites and the reading material is really risque. I felt uncomfortable most of the time. Nice guy, but a little too out there for me. Take Eric he's the greatest.

Arrogant and inflexible. Don't recommend!!
tha- thinks he knows everything and makes you read freaky plays. easy class, laid back but quizzes every class that are pretty lame. expensive books speech-- talks for suchh a long time and is way too formatted and boring. You want to fall asleep every class. Makes you dress up for class. Waste of time
If youre willing to LISTEN and learn,Mr Liedtke will help you open the doors to your dreams-You may not agree with his advice and even think it rather strange at times but if you get over yourself and just do what he says-the results are amazing!I took his direction auditioned for universities based on his guidelines-I was accepted to every school!

I hated the class itself, but the teacher was great. He talked a lot and got off topic, but it was all very interesting. The impromptu at the end was scary, but he let you use notecards on all the other speeches. No books or tests. You had to dress up for speeches. He also cancelled our final so we never had to take one.
How can anyone like this guy? He's arrogant, selfish, rude, obnoxious....I can think of a number of things to call this guy. If you enjoy being insulted and verbally abused, then take his class. If you're a normal person who doesn't find these things fun, he's a teacher to avoid.
he explains pretty well but talks ALOT! i never knew a guy could explain one thing ten different ways. he's also very very annoyingly strict on choosing topics. but i learned alot. if you like things done PERFECT then take this class.
I attempted this class in Summertime, so maybe that made it harder because it moved at such a fast pace.
Not helpful, not willing to work with students, degrading, and verbaly abusive
This guy is a total jerk. He will make you cry, no joke. He will verbally attack you and not help you at all. He thinks he is really funny but he is REALLYYYY FLIPPEN STUPID. DOT NOT TAKE HIM. He makes you dress up for speaches and makes you do homework (article reviews). Biggest jerk I have ever met in my life. I hate him. and many agree.
I learned a lot about plays and authors and how to be a better actor. He is flexible and he LISTENS to you. I am a beginner at acting and I enjoied this class very much. I didn't notice anything wierd or provocitive in class.
just finished. always helped my with my work. no book required and he lets you bring notes to the final. good experience.
I liked the discussions about the plays. He doesn't grade you on your acting, only on your overall participation in the class. I am taking him again this summer.
Fun class. Took him last spring. The class did an entire production as our final project.
i agree. just do the work on time and you will get at least a b. if you are lazy and dont want to learn then it will be tough. cal wants you to learn for yourself. take his class.
He's got high expectations, but it's easy to get a good grade if you complete the work and use his study guides. He spells out everything you need to pass the class on his syllabus. I learned a lot about how to organize my thoughts before speaking. And my writing is way better, too.
great director and easy to work with. helps you learn about the plays and theatre. I had a lot of fun.
Professor Liedke is a very creative and passionate teacher. He knows his stuff and creates a great quality learning enviroment. He teaches to life not just the classroom....he shares his passion for other things besides speech....he even offered an opportunity to go see a play this semester. Great class!
This class isn't very difficult. As long as you do the work and follow his syllabus, it is an easy A. He helps you understand everything, and is really a great guy. He sometimes gets offtopic, but his stories are great. It is a great class to take!
this is a great class to take. It is really good and the teach is helpfull in a lot of ways.
fun class to take. Great teacher, teaches very well.
He ran his class not as intro to speech but advance speech.
I learned alot about public speaking and can write a really good paper now. Thanks Cal!!
No books!! easy to listen too. lets you leave early if you have to. Flexible if problems come up during the semister. Good class since you have to take it anyway.
This is the best comm. teacher u can get. He may seem hard at first, but once u understand how he teaches, his class is a lot of fun. The only people that fail his class are the people that don't do the work he assigns. ((if u look, most of the people that rate him badly say that they failed because they didn't do the work)) take him he is great!
Easy class, easy grade if you do the assignments. Cal leads a good discussion on relevant topics. Better than the other classes where you hear "How to Set a Table" 5 different times....boring!!!
No textbook!! How easy can it get?? Interesting stories, funny guy. Take his class for good information on how to speek in public.
he has an endearing charisma and his lectures are engaging, unfortunately he is mistaken that his students REALLY want to learn speech and grades like a sonofa****. if you are taking speech just to fulfill a requirement, do not take this class.
With all of the extra credit that he offers, only a very lazy person could get less than a B in his class. He gives you handouts of A speeches so if you just copy that format you can't do poorly. Anyone who gets a poor grade in his class just doesn't put forth any effort. Most of the students in my class got an A or a B.
I was scared to take speech but Cal helped me to earn an A. He makes you feel comfortable with speech.
Very interesting look at theater arts and acting. I learned a lot. I can't wait to work with him in a summer show.
Good class. Just follow the instructions for each assignment and you will earn an easy A. Uses no book and explains himself well.
He shuts down topics for papers and throws them aside like kleenex. He forces you to pick topics that no one knows, nor cares about. He changed his syllabus mid-semester as well. Moved dates UP on them, and if you weren't in class to hear that...well..you're screwed. It's hard to succeed when you've no interest in what you're doing anymore.
Great teacher. I took him for theater two years ago and now for speech. He makes you feel good with your work and is very heplful. Easy class.
Loved the class. I took him two years ago. Liked reading the plays -- no other professor at MP has play reading on their syllabus. Good relationship with his students. This is a acting class, not improv. Thank God.
Take this class if you are scared of speaking in front of people. Professor Liedtke makes you feel at ease and not affraid. Plus he offers a lot of extra credit. One full course grade. I got an A.
Kick back. Took the SUMMER class last year. Easy A. Just show up and be prepared ... What more is ther to say?
Professor Liedtke rules!!!!
Once you understand what he wants from you, it's not hard to get an A. Don't feel intimidated. Just keep your head down and do the work. Be polite and try not to argue with him. Just give him what he wants. You'll probably end up learning without even realizing it. Not the best teacher, but not the worst. Nothing wrong with a challenge.
Prof. lietdke taught me a lot. I know how to write better and I don't fear speaking in front of people. He give a lot of extra credit -- a full class grade which helps. I recommend him.
Good class. Really interesting discussions. Just do the work on time and some of the extra credit --- he offers A LOT and you'll get an A.
Fun class to attend. Mr. Liedtke leads great class discussions and he creates a relaxed class environment. The speeches were not difficult and he offers a ton of extra credit. Take this class if you wnant to learn and get an easy grade.
the class is fun to attend and generally, put me in a good mood but the speeches were pretty unnecessary. he expects a ridiculously detailed hard copy and hasn't really made anyone in my class a better speaker. this class was basically reading long intricate essays outloud- not delivering good speeches. wouldn't take him again.
Very useful class. I learned how to write my papers better and now I feel very well in getting up in front of people and speaking. Prof. Liedtke gives a ton of extra credit, no book required, and even hands out sample speeches for you to use. To get an A on the final you only have to get 75 out of 100 points. Fun class. Take him.
Cal is alright. He's a little baised on certain topics and you have to do speeches his way about certain subjects. Easy to get an A though
Cal is an okay teacher. His class is an hour and 20 min long and mostly filled with discussions that only have to last 30 min. His speeches are like writing a research paper but he prepares you well.
He's difficult to work with, not hard. Pay attention during class because if you have to go up to him with questions he seems to enjoy talking down to people. He eventually chooses students he likes and doesn't like. He doesn't care what you want to speak on, only what he wants you to speak on. Just don't confront him and you'll be fine.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. HE IS NOT CLEAR WHAT HE WANT. MAKE YOU WRITE 5 HARD PAPERS. HE IS GOOD AT ACTING, HE PRETENDS HE IS NICE BUT HE IS NOT. VERY SARCASTIC DONT TAKE HIM.
Cal can be abraisive, oppinionated, has long lectures, many stories and can be boring. Personality is not so good, but he is pretty easy teacher. Grades very easy, offers extra credit, did 2 major speeches and a debate. 2 speeches had to have a written copy turned in but for me that was helpful. Easy A if you put a little effort into it.
I had a positive experience. He creates a comfortable atmosphere so being nervous is not a problem. He stays after class to help you. He is very open to student ideas about speech topics. The speech class was very relaxed, and low preasure. But if you are a slacker or a "pretender" you will not do well . . . like the previous comment writer.
For a beginning speech class this was very easy. Professor Cal was helpful if you had a question - he stays after class and works with you. He has LOTS of EXTRA CREDIT - I did not have to show up the last day. If you are nervous about speech like me, then take his class. Professor Cal will help you get your A.
I enjoyed the class. There is a ton of extra credit almost a full grade! The speeches were very easy. Cal even gives you a sample speech for EVERY ASSIGNMENT. If you show up, and take notes this class is an easy A or B. Plus, Cal makes the class very fun.
Very easy class to get an A in. Only two formal speeches (informative and persuasive) and a short debate. Oh, yeah, he offers almost a full grade of extra credit. He is easy going and very open to speech topics. We had some great discussions in class. If you have to take public speaking, take Cal's class.
Very easy class to get a A in. There is a ton of extra credit and Cal is very clear with his expectations. Just show up every day and ASK QUESTIONS. I had a very good experience.
I was not looking forward to taking a speech class but Mr. Liedtke made me feel comfortable from the first day. He expalins assignments and concepts thouroughly and, yes, there is a lot of extra credit. More than half the class got A's. I enjoyed this class.
Great class. Easy A. No book. Prof. is easy to work with and helped me a lot.
Professor Cal is very easy to work with. Always ready to help even outside of class. Yeah, no book fo rthe class and a lot of extra credit. Most of my class did not have to take the final and still got an A. But if you are lazy and do not show up you will not do well. For a class that I wad dreading, I had a very good experience. Take him.
Oh Brother! Get a life! You don't GET grades...you earn them. I earned the B because I didn't want to do the extra credit available. Cal is great. He explains things well and he ALWAYS responds to email if you get it to him in a timely manner (not 10 minutes before its due). Plus, you learn how to write like a college student...not high school.
Very easy professor to work with. He gives a ton of extra credit so getting an A is not hard. Take him.
Professor Liedtke is very relaxed and easy going. He was very clear in his lectures and he always stayed after class to help you. The speeches were pretty easy once you get the hang of it, again, very low preasure. I enjoyed his class very much. Take him.
Cal is a good teacher! Be sure to show up (deducts each time you are not there) and DO EVERY ASSIGNMENT! Speeches are VERY straight forward with samples and expectations for each one. Extra credit is available but I did all the assignments and did not need the EC or need to do the final & still got an "A". Would defintely recommend!
Mr. Cal is very relaxed and very straight forward in what he wants you to do. He give out sample speeches for you to follow -- he wants you to get an A! I did all the work, and I showed up for every class and I did not have to take the final -- got an A. He offers A LOT of extra credit too. Take Cal if you want to learn and get an easy A.
Cal Liedtke plays favorites; it's as simple as that. And he plays favorites with the pretty girls with next to no clothing on. Pretty disgusting if you ask me. His class isn't hard, yet it's not at all helpful and he chooses the most ridiculous and irrelevant things to teach us how to give a speech, and if you don't do it, you fail. Beware!!!
Prof Liedtke is an easy teacher to get along with. I am not a pretty girl and I'm getting an A because I show up to class every day and turn my work in on time. Getting a good grade in his class is as simple as that. He offers a ton of extra credit. Most of the people in class that I know are getting either an A or a B. Just don't be a slacker.
Awesome class. No book, easy speeches, and the final is OPTIONAL! Very casual and conversational. Just show up to class, take notes and turn your work in on time. This is an EASY A.
Prof. Cal is a very relaxed teacher. No textbook and the final is OPTIONAL. I was very nervous before I take the class. It was an easy A. I recommend taking him.
Really funny guy, good teacher, gives lots of extra credit stuff, he loves the Simpson's. This class is only hard if you make it hard.
Easy class. I got an A. Lots of extra credit -- I din't even have to take the final. Very good class.
The best prof. I had this sem. Totally should take him if you need to take a speech class. Gets very involved with the class and everyones individual needs. Very helpfull! Do the extra credit and your good!
I was terrified of speech, but I swear it really isn't as scary as you think it will be. I took his 4 week summer school class and it was really easy! There is a 3 item introduction speech, rant/rave, informative, persuasive, & impromptu speech. Just do the all the extra credit and you won't even have to do impromptu or final! Do funny speeches!!
Overall a pretty easy teacher. Turn in speeches and assignments on time and you'll be fine. Not textbook. He's a cool guy and all but he's also biased and he doesn't look at things from an objective point of view, which cost me some points because of his personal beliefs, which really sucks. But if you want a reasonably easy A then he's alright.
Wants you to do well. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. Grades fairly easy I got A's on all my speeches and I didn't even make eye contact most of the time. Didn't have to take the final. Speeches are easy to write just go to class and make sure you write it how he wants. Easy to talk to. I would take a class from him again.
Useless teacher. Doesn't help. Plays favorites. Always tries to one-up students. Didn't really learn anything about speeches. Wasn't interested in learning anything because speech topics have to be approved by him which rarely happens. However you can pass the class if you turn in everything on time, he does offer extra credit. Not recommended.
Nice guy, there are 3 speech and one debate usually due one after another. You must type out your speech and follow his strict format. You pick your topic based on the speech. Gave about 4 extra credit opportunities. Overall nice guy but too structured compared to other teachers.
Just finished. Easy A. I found Mr. Lidkey to be easy going, helpful outside of class and supportive. Important - turn your work in on time. If you do then you'll be great. No tesxbook. No impromptu speech. And the final exam is optional! Good class.
Great class with over 100 points extra credit even the final exam is optional. Mr Lidkey is very relaxed and open to discussion. Make sure you turn in your work on time and you will succeed. I recommend him.
Easy A. No book. The final is optional.
I liked the class. Mr. Lidkey gives you sample speeches of all the work so all you have to do is follow those examples. Fair grading - even if you disagree with him. LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT.
He seems Great at First but if you have an opinion about life I would not take this class. Its his way or the high way. He seems to grade more on the paper itself then the actual speech! He also does not like to explain things. So dont expect to ask questions in this class. I got a B and I worked my Butt off in this class!!
Great teacher. The class is well structured and if you follow the sample speeches that he hands out then you will do very well. Only two homework assignments and over a full class grade of extra credit. You are expected to work for your grade but getting an A is very easy. The debates at the end of the class are a lot of fun.
Great class & professor. Lots of extra credit.
Prof. Cal is a fair and balanced teacher. Easy going and easy to talk to. He made the class very comfortable to be in and I was scared to take speech. Yeah, lots of extra credit. Not hard to earn an A if you show up and turn your work in on time. Cal treats you as an adult, very respectful.
An easy A but you have to play by his rules and do not miss the classes.
Just finishing the class now. Easy A -- will not have to take the final which is optional anyway. Mr. Liedtke is an easy going guy. Fun class and the debates are a riot. Enjoyed the class very much.
Awesome speech teacher!! I was NOT looking forward to speech and he made it so easy! No text, VERY little hw, sample speeches, and LOTS of extra credit! You have to go, but you won't want to ditch anyway. Do the tournament at the end, it's worth it! I highly recommend this class to anyone who is afraid or just hates public speaking!! BEST TEACHER!
Doesn't know too well how to properly distribute the points he gives you! But in the end, you get the grade your suppose to get.
Man, I wish I took another teacher! He plays favorites especially if you challenge his thinking. Does not like to be criticize. I got an A but only because I had a great English teacher before him.
Three weeks to go and I already have an A. Mr. Liedtke is fun, friendly, and very helpful. You don't earn grades on his assignments, but points. And he offers a ton of points. My friends is his class are also earning A grades. I recommend him.
Mr. Liedtke is the best. Very friendly and very helpful. He listens to you and he wants you to get an A. If you are lazy, a looser, or just don't care then don't take him. He really responds to people who take an interest in their college career and he will help you to over come your fears with speaking in front of people. The best.
Mr. Liedtke is the best. I dropped two other professors (McCall and Berg) and took Prof. Liedtke do to a friend's recommendation. Glad I did. He gave me an A. Lots of extra credit, no text book, very easy going.
Not an easy teacher, but makes you very comfortable. i was terrified about going into speech, and thought i would drop it by the first speech, but i ended up getting through it because of how comfortable he made you. he does not grade on whether you are nervous or not, and isn't ridiculous with the kinds of speech he gives. i would recommend him.
Even if you do EVERY SPEECH and the Debate you can still fail if you dont do the mindless little stuff so dont think that a speech class is about speech because its not...only little stupid crap.
overall he is a good teacher but he can be a major A$$. I sent him and email asking multiple questions and got a one letter response. Definitely think twice before taking him although I did earn an A almost all the other students struggled for B's and C's
Professor Liedtke is a sharp guy. He's the kind of guy who kinda makes you prove yourself before he takes a liking to you. Overall though, he's a good guy and a really solid teacher. Fun class. Great experience.
This professor is ridiculous. Is sloppy and has nothing in order when it comes to your grade. E-mails are short and do not help at all. Says you cannot write speeches on animals yet it is not in the syllabus. Ridiculous class. DO NOT TAKE!
I wish I took another teacher. I read on here he was good but I disagree. It is his way or the highway. Plays favorites. Doesn't explain anything. Don't expect to get your questions answered. Very sarcastic and hard to just get a straight answer. He won't follow thru on what he says. Expect to keep close record of grades because he isn't organized.
Had him for comm/speech class. Good teacher except he put his political idealogies into his lectures. When I protested his with my own (I know, mistake) I found the A I had going into the final magically become a C. Bullshit. My whole class loathed him too though. Can't be trusted.
I have nothing against him as a person but as a teacher, well I almost felt as if he wanted me to fail. I've had strait A's through all of collage exept his class. I was surprised to know that other students that where amazing speakers and did all the work barely passed. I honestly don't recomend this guy.
this prof. is pretty awesome. he's funny and he'll teach you a lot about how to write a speech. really laid back and interesting! no books either! he's a real people person too and he likes to share a lot of his personal expeirence. take this class!

Took him last summer and the class was a breeze. We did three speeches and Mr. Liedtke was very kick back. The final is optional and I got an A without to much effort.
Extremely helpful and easy going professor. Took him on summer session and it was a breeze. Very approachable and willing to help us to solve any issue we might have. Take him, and raise your GPA. He's an easy grader, not picky at all!! Just don't read off note cards.. Easy A...Highly recommended..
He tells you what you need to say on your speech. It is the easiest class I have ever taken in my life. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this course if you want an A. Final is optional
CAL ROCKS! Wonderful teacher, and really funny. I was terrified to stand infront of a classroom, let alone speak however, with Cal's help I no longer have any problem with delivering speeches. Just do what he asks for, attend class and prepare for your speeches in advance and you'll be walking out with an A! o and gives tones of extra credit!!
First things, don't listen to the people who criticize him because they obviously don't do the work. He knows his stuff and he expects you to know the subject if you're going to give a speech. He's a little hard, but fair and a great teacher at that. Take his classes. You'll come away better for it. Lot of extra credit and the final is optional.
Easy class.Nice teacher. No book required.Final is optional if you have an A.No quizzes. No class tests.3 speeches.1 debate.Easy pass.If you fail this class then you are one lazyy person.

No text book required! He uses interesting and fun examples during his lectures. As long as you follow his instructions you'll do fine on his assignments! There are 3 speeches ( informative, persuasive, tribute) and one debate ( with any topic we did vampires v. zombies) Final is not mandatory.Take him!
I really learned how to write a great speach and impove my speaking abilites. You gotta do the assignments which arent hard at all, just put effort in and you can definitely get an A!Class can get pretty boring but stay with it, overall its good. I would reccommend!
Great teacher. Friendly and approachable. Explains material well, willing to email and answer questions or give advice. Learned A LOT. Dont be affraid of public speaking. He is funny and doesnt require a book. Write the speeches, show up, memorize them and your good!
he is a moron!no book and speeches are easy but I sent an email asking a # of ?'s & got a 1 word answer back he will make you look like an idiot! did a debate at the end, class said my team won & he said if it was up to him the other team should of won just kind of a jerk! you will pass though I still got an A
Seriously? This was the easiest class EVER! Just follow the sample speech he gives you. He also gives SO MUCH EXTRA CREDIT that I got an A without even having to take the final! Just show up on time (every time) and simply copy his sample speeches with your topic. Anyone who even thought that this was a hard class should not be in COLLEGE!
Best professor I've had so far. Very approachable. Stays after class if you need extra help. Right, he does not use a textbook and the final is optional if yu have enough points. I had a great experience and I learned a lot.
BEST TEACHER EVER! He is so funny and really gets you into the subject if you pay attention. He makes you want to try hard and if you do the work and try you can get an A without having to do the final. AMAZING TEACHER. really inspirational too
Good teacher. Show up every day, turn in your work on time and you'll get a B or an A. If you are lazy and don't want to be in a COLLEGE class then this is not the class for you. I think the lazy students don't like him because he makes you work and learn.

this teacher has no clue what hes talking about and gives the most speeches out of all the other speech teachers. ill never take this teacher again and i would NEVER recommend him.
this teacher requires SO MUCH WORK
this teacher gave the most homework out of any class ive ever taken at moorpark
This teacher gives ridiculous guidelines and is really strict. For example the tribute speech has to be on someone who is 60 years old or dead AND they have to have a book written on them. Also he GIVES THE MOST SPEECHES out of all the other teachers and he is an extremely hard grader. Don't waste your time in this class
Okay, I read these positive comments and decided to take the class this semester. He is by far the most sarcastic, worst teacher i have ever had. Thank god for the extra credit or else it would have been inpossible to pass. Want an A? Have fun trying to get one with this guy. He has favorites and his grading is unbelivably strict.DO NOT TAKE HIM!
You'll really benefit from taking this class, especially with him. Yes you may have to work harder in this class than you might in some of the other speech teachers, but u basically just listen to his stories for the whole class which are actually funny. really nice guy, SO MUCH extra credit and really funny. got an A, but had to work a bit for it
Don't listen to these haters, Cal is a nice guy to students who take the class seriously. Just show up! Very liberal with awarding points for the 5 speeches just show some effort, don't go ever time limit and dress up for extra credit. He also gives ample extra credit opportunities to pull up your grade. Didn't have to take the final and got an A!
Great class. While it may be tough for the lazy students I found it to be one of my best classes. Lots of extra credit and the final is optional.
Pro. Liedtke was awesome. Took him during summer 2010, MTWTh. Great lectures on types of communication and speeches. Great info on speech formats. If you can FOLLOW SIMPLE DIRECTIONS then you CANNOT POSSIBLY fail, and you SHOULD get an A. Awesome class, awesome professor.

First things, don't listen to the people who criticize him. Yeah he knows his stuff (by far one of the most intelligent people I've known) and he expects you to know the subject if you're going to give a speech. He's a little hard, but fair and a great teacher at that. Take his classes. You'll come off better for it.

Class is way fast and he won't let you speak on anything that is interesting to you. He doesn't help and expects a lot in a short time. grading is sucky at best, the only good thing about his class is the extra credit, i dropped just because of his attitude, seems cool at first but he is not.
GREAT TEACHER! Don't need the book AT ALL. The only thing required in the class is to write 4 speeches. No tests and the final is take home and extra credit. He'll tell you exactly what you need to do to make your speeches good and what you need to get an A.

I don't know how this guy has so many good ratings. He was AWFUL. He lost many of my assignments, was a hard grader, and never really answered my questions through e-mail. I would NOT recommend him. The good speech prof. to take is Amanda Whidden! You'll actually learn in there.
Late-start class but didn't feel rushed. Very nice and approachable. Wants you to pass. Graded on a point based system, so final was optional. No text book required and lectures are thorough. We were allowed to use index cards on our speeches. Many extra-credit opportunities.
Very easy teacher if you listen to what he wants in his speeches. Very picky in his grading scale but in the end,you will learn how to write better for essays and speeches. Also for the final exam, you get to use a notecard with as much information as you want on it.
I enjoyed the class. Easy A all you have to do is show up and do the speechs. Lot of extra credit so I didn't have to take the final. Take him.
One of the most interesting professors I've had. Very approachable. Like the LAKERS a lot so talk to him about it. Easy A Lots of extra credit and I didn't have to take the final.
Everyone on here is right! This guy is great! I can't think of any way he could be a better teacher! Very inspirational! The class name should be changed from Speech to Confidence Boosting Class! I was terrified of speech before, then I looked on here, saw the great comments, then signed up for the class. I made a wise decision & I hope you do too!
Awesome teacher, really engages with the class and gets you to think. His topics and discussions really emphasize critical thinking. I learned a great deal from him in SPCH definitely a must take. Great guy
Awesome teacher, really engages with the class and gets you to think. His topics and discussions really emphasize critical thinking. I learned a great deal from him in SPCH definitely a must take. Great guy
I loved this professor. He was hilarious, insightful, and helpful. He helped me a lot with public speaking, and various other things. If Socrates somehow still lived, this professor would be his best friend.
Semi-easy grader. I think only 3 kids didnt pass the class but they were ppl who didnt do half the speeches & still expected a descent grade. Cool, sarcastic guy & is the type of teacher that tells funny stories that tie in to the class. Overall I learned a lot, & I'm a better writer. Must attend class, dont use your phone & you will receive A or B
Yes, easy to get the A. He gives you detailed homework guidelines and sample speeches. Lots of extra credit so I did not have to take the final. He wants you to earn the A grade.
Best professor I'd had at this college.
Without a doubt the best theater professor on this campus. I took his SPEECH CLASS too. Very helpful and funny. He cares that you understand the material and wants you to succeed.
I didn't find his sense of humor funny, he's rude and sarcastic. Likes to put you on the spot. He's mostly pretty clear in what he expects from you and there's lots of writing involved. If you do what he wants he'll give you a good grade. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE YOUR CELL PHONE. My grade got bumped from an A to a B for checking the time.
Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. This professor is great, but learn not to take things personally, he really likes to joke around. He teaches things that help with school/life in general, not only speeches. If you allow it to happen, this class can really up your confidence. Very warm teacher, genuinely wants to see students succeed.
wonderful, interesting, took over summer. gives you all of the outlines/examples you need. walks you through it step by step. hard work, but wants you to suceed. lots of extra credit, final optional. no textbook-his notes are way better anyway-attendance mandatory or you'll miss a lot of info needed. expects discipline, maturity, so be on time!
hes not a good teacher but its decently easy to get the A. he talks about food for hours on end and will go off on stories for the entire class and end them 5 min before class ends with a point that could have been given in 2 min.
Good and bad at the same time, in my perception. He will help you become a better public speaker, but isn't exactly the best teacher out there. Many intents are down the middle, so to speak, e.g. he will get off topic, but also facilitate material, simultaneously.
This professor was more concerned with the structure of the PAPER and not the execution of the speech orally. I think it was practical that he required modern and practical topics. Also, no powerpoints or visual aids were allowed for the more serious topics. If you're looking for goofy topics, focus on the oral performance: Liedtke is not for you
Great prof. Very personable and approachable. He will teach you a lot about how to write better, too. Very relaxed. He makes you feel comfortable and not afraid. Two thumbs up!
Best professor that i've had at this college. He really makes you think about becoming a better student. He helped me a lot with my writing and i am not scared to talk in front of class any more. He is a real person that you can talk to for help. The class was great fun too.
He tells you exactly what he expects. He is a little slow replying to emails and offers extra credit. He will help guide you in the right direction, but you need to do most of the work. If you have trouble speaking in front of people, I recommend practicing your speech a few times a day several days before giving it and you should do well.
Pretty cool guy, speeches are decently easy & you don't even need the book at all to pass the class. You can also get literally 55 points of extra credit throughout the semester, 30 of which you get just for dressing nicely during the big speeches. Put it this way: if you're failing and complain, then you're victimizing yourself because he's great.
Likewise -- Very help full. This was one class that I really looked forward to coming to EVERY DAY.
I agree. Very good professor. This was the one class that I really looked forward to coming to.
Good teacher but will not hold your hand throughout semester. Recommend you look at your syllabus OFTEN. Will not tell you when things are due. Offers extra credit but don't wait till last minute to do it. Go to class - he gives pop quizzes & random extra credit. Give PLENTY of time for all your assignments and you'll be just fine!
I really enjoyed Porf. Liedtkes speech class. He is very easy to talk to and get along with. The speeches are somewhat easy -- I was nervous at first. But he makes you feel relaxed. Lots of extra credit. I looked forward to coming to this class every day.
I agree with the student below. Also, I really enjoyed Porf. Liedtkes speech class. He is very easy to talk to and get along with. The speeches are somewhat easy -- I was nervous at first. But he makes you feel relaxed. Lots of extra credit and the final is optional. Also, NO TEXT BOOK REQUIRED.
Professor Liedtke is an entertaining actor. Picture a balding Richard Gere. His lectures are engaging and you'll laugh and cry. On speech days he shows Stevie Nicks music videos in the dark before class. It's relaxing. His quizzes are lame and the speeches require WORK. He guides you to success and allows speeches of all topics.
Professor Liedtke is really funny! I loved gong to class every day because there was always something to look forward to. He definitely assures you that public speaking isn't as scary as it seems. Remember this though. Public speaking is AUDIENCE CENTERED. He is an amazing professor I highly recommend his class.
Took over mid-semester and threw out grades from prior teacher. I don't think that was fair! I thought he was very rude to everyone, but especially to the girls in the class. Bottom line, I don't think I learned anything from him and would not recommend him.
Mr. Liedke is a great teacher. He likes to have fun, but he doesn't goof off. He wants everyone to be comfortable with public speaking and his speeches help you get comfortable. You NEED the syllabus. He doesn't tell you when things are due. Lots of extra credit. If you don't procrastinate, you'll get an A. Don't get the textbook. Don't need it.
This class started out with another teacher who fell ill and Cal filled in the rest of the semester. from the month after that he took over, nothing seemed very organized. He seemed to beat around the bush in his clarification of assignments, even when directly asked how to go about things. Not the easiest to communicate with either.
Just finished the summer class. Got the A with ease. Very funny and I learned a lot.
GREAT INSTRUCTOR! Very fair grader -- he gives you very detailed handout and sample speeches to refer to. If you show up on time every day, do the speeches with a good faith effort, and ask questions you will not get less than a B. Very funny and VERY RELAXED class. Note to slackers: don't bother. He does not put up with your drama and games.
GREAT TEACHER! I was not looking forward to a public speaking class. Mr. Liedtke made me feel very relaxed with myself. He jokes a lot with the students but does not hold your hand. Read the syllabus and prepare your work on time and you will get an A. I DID IT! I GOT AN A!
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. I got an A in this class and I am still saying to not take this class. I felt like this professor favored girls over guys. He is a VERY hard grader. If he thinks you read too much from your note cards during your speech he will give you a ZERO. Very Highly opinionated. I do not recommend this class.
Professor Liedke's speech class is the only class that I have looked forward to going to -- every day. He loves to teach and it shows. He gives out clear instructions and even sample speeches for you to follow. Fun class too. and lots of extra credit. Highly recommended!
Professor Liedke was an okay professor! Class is mandatory because he takes off points once its your second absence, other than that there were about 6 speeches and I learned a lot in this class. His lecture were semi-interesting
Mr. Liedke is very supportive. He wants everyone to get an A. He is among my favorite teachers at this college.
High expectations but Mr. Liedtke is very clear with the assignment objectives. He even includes sample speeches for you to follow on every assignment. What I liked best about Liedtke was that he supported me and really wanted me to get a good grade. Plus he offers a lot of extra credit so if you do make a mistake then your grade wont suffer.
Cal is by far one of the best professors at Moorpark College. I was so terrified of taking speech but he made it so easy and was so friendly. He is an amazing person as well as teacher, take the time to know him, crack a few jokes and you're golden. I would definitely take him again if i had to.
The best professor I have had at Moorpark! Class lectures are engaging. You will ace this class no problem as long as you are prepared. My class becomes so family like, I would take this class every semester if I would! There isn't a class that will go by that you don't crack up. He gives you so much leeway with your speeches! TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!
I looked forward to going to Cal's class everyday. I had the 1:00 class and he allowed us to have a PIZZA DAY. Speeches are straight forward. His is very casual and stays after class to answer your questions. Very good class.
Took CommM01 with him after the initial prof got sick(?) and he filled in from about week 2. Great prof, would definitely take again. Created a great classroom dynamic. Kind of a stickler for grading though. The only people in my class who didn't like him were the ones who came way unprepared and thought they were too cool for the class.
Liedke is very clear with speech expectations. He eeven gives you sample speeches so you just have to copy what other students got an A on. Lot of extra credit and he always stayed after class if you needed help. I took him for summer 2015. I got an A.
I took speech with McCall and dropped -- too difficult and not friendly . Cal was recommeneded to me because he helps you and is easy to get along with. I passed with a B. Plus I enjoyed his casual style a lot.
Easy class. Lots of extra credit. I was afraid of taking a speech class but Cal won't let you fail. In the end I enjoyed the class a lot.
Just got out of Cal's summer speech class today -- got an A without taking the final (which is optional). This has been one of my favorite classes at Moorpark. Cal gives you sample speeches as examples to use for your main work. PLUS-- he gives lots of extra credit. Like I said -- I got an A without too much trouble.
Just finished my summer 2015 speech class with Liedtke. Got an A without too much trouble. He really makes you feel comfortable -- we even ordered pizza during class! Very cool professor.
EXTREEMLY HELPFUL AND EASY GOING PROFESSOR. IF YOU WANT TO IMPROVE YOUR GPA THEN TAKE THIS CLASS -- LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT.
Great professor. Very passionate about his subjects. He is avaliable to help you with your speeches every day. I really enjoyed the music before the classes. He is not the usual professor.
He is one of the best teachers I have ever had! Very clear in what he wants but conveys the information in a hilarious way! If you're going to take public speaking, definitely take Cal!
Mr Liedtke is a true educator, one of few I have been lucky to come across in my academic career. He genuinely cares about the development and growth of each individual student and will do anything within his reach to help guide you to success. you will have to put in the work but you will feel supported at every step. Invaluable.
Cal's speech class was the ONE CLASS that I looked forward to going to every day. Highly recommend him. He treats you with respect and actually wants you to get the A in the class. Take him.
I took Cal's speech class last Fall. Great professor. He challanges you to do your best work. The speeches are fairly easy. Jst ask questions and show up every day. No homework per se. Just writing the speeches. Most students that I know of got ether an A or a B. I liked th eclass.
He gives clear instructions of what you need to do to get a good grade. If you go to him for help, he will help you. He is a funny and understanding guy. He definitely helped me feel more comfortable giving speeches in front of audiences.
REASONS TO AVOID THIS TEACHER: 1. He's sarcastic and rude (expects you to formally address him if you come up to talk to him or ask a question) 2. Says he tries not to embarrass students and does exactly that (after a 5-10 min speech he will berate your speech in front of class) 3. He's scarily self absorbed and opinionated(he will let you know)
Cal's class was fun, and he is very silly. He counts absences and tardies against you and will not accept late work typically. If you are a good student who can keep track of work, it's an easy A. Follow his directions exactly, it's that easy. Also, his political views are obviously conservative, and he puts people on the spot often. Not PC at all
Prof Leidtke took over for a Prof who left before the semester really began. He saved us from a bad previous Prof. We did use the book we had to purchase for the other Prof, but his lectures are so much better than any book. Very on point and expects you to be also. I gained so much more by staying in the class. I would totally take him again!!!
Cal is very clear with the course grading criteria which helped me a lot. He even passes out sample speeches from previous students. Right -- Cal is not PC. What a breath of fresh air! He always makes himself available after class for individual help.
Excellent experience. Of course if you are lazy then you'll have a difficulet time. But this is college, people! I hope to take him for a theater class soon.
I am re taking this course now (summer) because I just didn't have my act together in the spring. Mr. Lidkey lays out very clear instructions (sample speeches) and his grading method is clear and getting an A is easy. Yes, he is not PC wich is refreshing from a college professor. Take his speech class.
Great class. After just five weeks of taking Cal's summer speech class I have learned more about how to write a college essay that I have is taking 2 years of English classes. TAKE CAL'S CLASS!!
Cal Liedke is a great professor, he is funny so it makes class so by fast! Honestly just follow his guidelines on his speeches & you'll do fine. Also don't be that person that reads from their notecards the whole time, he'll call you out on it and you'll get points off.
I took Cal's speech class from a friend's recommendation. I am GLAD I did. I didn't want to take a speech class but Cal made me (and the class) feel very relaxed and comfortable. His grading is very objective and fair. He even hands out sample speeches for you to follow -- for every assignment. Also - lots of extra credit. I earned an A.
Cal Liedtke is a great professor as well as a powerful speaker. His grading scale is very clear and he tells his students exactly what they need to do in order to get the A. Show up to class on time, prepared, and ready to have fun. One of the best teachers that I have had and this is one of the few classes that actually prepare for the real world
Professor Liedtke is one of the best professors I have had in my college experience. He REALLY WANTS EVERY STUDENT TO EARN AN A! He is casual and very open to LISTENING to you and your thoughts. Yes -- take him for speech!

Got a B even though I excelled on all my speeches, I missed too many classes. Tried to talk to him about it but he said too bad should've come. Go to every class do your best. Final is optional easy class overall but attendance is extremely important to him
He is a good professor and I would definitely take him again
Cal is a great professor. He is enthusiastic and wants everyone to do well and enjoy his class. He tells you exactly what he wants in the speeches and if you follow the examples he gives you and practice you will earn the A. He will definitely push you to do your very best. I definitely recommend.
Cal is awesome, he really likes his job and classes. He takes time especially with struggling students. By the end of the class he wants you to be more confident in front of people. You can also get an A just by doing his criteria which is clear cut, but if you actually want to improve your public speaking skills, this professor will get you there.
Liedke is a great professor. He teaches well, very humorous, and he gives plenty of extra credit. He wants you to pass and will give you great feedback to improve upon. The Final is optional.
Liedtke is a great professor. Very understanding and helpful. Lots of extra credit. Hands out clear guidelines and even gives you past students sample speechs to use.
Is way too content oriented and focused .You would think that you were in an English class instead of an intro speech class. If you have a fear of public speaking, then I would avoid taking this teacher. Liedtke is a very tough, so you better bring your A game. This class didn't achieve its main objective of imparting confidence to me. Be careful.
I took Cal's summer speech class. I was very nervous to be in a speech class. Cal made me feel comfortable and at ease. I learned a lot on how to write not only a speech but also papers for my other classes. I would like to take another class from him. He is a excellent teacher.
I took Mr Lidkey's speech class this summer. He is an excellent teacher. I learned so much about how to write a speech and other papers for college classes. He gives you sample speeches from past students to use as a model. I was very nervous about taking a speech class. Lidkey made me feel comfortable and at ease.
Professor Liedtke is one of the best professors I have had in my college experience. He has done a wonderful job.
Mr Liedtke is a great professor. Gives sample speeches for you to follow. Lots of extra credit. Automatic full points on the first speech, choice of topics. Lots of opportunities to do well. Speech can be the hardest class you take if you're prone to anxiety. Get to know your class mates, it makes speaking in front of them a lot less scary.

Funny dad type humor, opinionated but in a good way. If you are having trouble just talk to him.
Very nice guy, I definitely enjoyed just sitting and listening to his stories. His theater background serves him well in teaching. If that's not your thing, I wouldn't recommend him. His feedback is legitimate. If you want to pass, be real and be committed.

My worst instructor of the semester. I wouldn't look forward to my day at school. I felt picked on a lot of the times and interrupted me during speeches, if you feel uncomfortable with public speaking don't take him. I was comfortable and by the end of the semester I felt the opposite. I had to work SO HARD for my A, when it shouldn't of been...
Prof. Liedtke is an excellent teacher. I am taking him in the Winter session. Earning an A. He is a very interesting prof. We all look forward to class with him. Take his class.
Prof. Liedtke is the best prof that I have had. I did not want to take a public speaking class. However, Liedke made me feel very comfortable and her helped me learn to write the speech. After a few weeks I actually looked forward to meeting in class every day. Take his speech class!

My experience with professor Liedke has not been a good one at all. Not only does he mock students in class, inferring that they are stupid, but he is an incredibly harsh grader. He will take off over half points for an assignment if you forget to underline something or use 1 space instead of 2. So many essays for a speaking class! Very hard class
I took his speech class over the summer. DO NOT TAKE HIM. He mocks students, even during their speech and makes them start over. He made it hard to find a subject to write about for each of his speeches. He made it very difficult to write a speech because it would always get shut down. Even when asking for help he did not seem caring or helpful.
He gave me a D just because I didn't underline something, even though the work itself was A quality for a paper. Extremely rude and he made me feel uncomfortable in class. Interrupted and humiliated me in front of the class during my speeches! I had to work SO HARD for a class that's meant to be easy and not stressful. I would cry from stress.
Best professor I've had at this college. VERY clear assignment criteria. Always availabe before or after class. Take his speech class.
He was the BEST teacher I have ever had. He genuinely cares about his students and he wants us to succeed. Shows us not to settle and aim higher (made me change my mind about going to one school for another). He is super hilarious, had me laughing so hard! He is strict about attendance, you can't miss more than four times. 2 Essays & 5 speeches.

Best first day of class lecture that I have ever heard -- by any college professor! Take this class.
Best first day of class lecture that I have ever heard -- by any college professor! Take this class!
Easy class. Mr. Lidke gives u clear directions and even sample speeches to use. The final is optional. Recommend taking this speech class.
Got the A this summer (2018). Easy class. Mr. Lidke gives u clear directions and even sample speeches to use. The final is optional. Recommend taking this speech class.
Liedkey was the best teacher that I've had here so far. He really wants to teach you. I am a much better writer of college papers and much more confidant speaking in front of people. Plus -- you can just talk to him about anything without judgement. Great prof.
Worst teacher I've ever had in my life. Does not want you to succeed.
Cares way too much about how you type your essay not how to deliver it. Cal is a nice guy but no that empathetic type there was the borderline shooting then the fires still didnt care at all. Spends too much time on how to write an essay more than saying a speech. Im a talker but this man discouraged me
When you get an A on every single speech, and work your butt off the whole semester you expect to get an A right? Nope, he does not want you to pass. He says you dont have to take the final but then gives you a 0/50 on it. The final consisted of 6 parts to each question with absolutely no partial credit. Worst teacher ever do not take him.
Prof. Liedke seems to be a very relaxed easy going professor. He explains exactly how he wants speeches, however he will scrutinize all of students work. Inconsistencies in his grading, certain assignments that were turned in were not recorded into his ledger. Save all work until the final class. Do not miss days speeches are assigned.
I loved Lidkey's speech class, he is a great professor and his class was a lot of fun. We had about five speeches with varying topics and as long as you completed it on time and did your best you could get a B or A. Some speeches require research, make sure it is accurate because he is a knowledgeable guy. I definitely recommend his class
Amazing prof. He gives sample speeches for you to follow and a very clear grading rubric. Plus, more than a course grade of extra credit -- how can you not get the A? I was in the same class that the people who rated him badly below. They never wanted to be in the class and always felt entitled and never participated. Babies.
Like everyone else says, one of the best professors. Very casual and comfortable. He made a point to help me during my speech. At first, I was very nervous but then after I knew that he made be a better speaker. Take his classes, you wont regret it.
Prof. Cal is very clear on how to earn the A in the class. He gives you the grading criteria and points earned very specifically. He even gives you sample speeches from past students to help you. You can use note cards but do not read all the time. But no slackers. And no phones. Take his class. Easy and enjoyable.
I took Cal's class several years ago, and to this day it still was one of the most rewarding classes I have had the pleasure of taking. This class requires a basic amount of effort. You will have work to do, but not much. Have a good attitude, and you will do fine. Looking back, I wish I could retake this class with a better respect for it.
Easy class. Don't miss any speeches and you're guaranteed to pass.
Cal is a kind guy, hes really funny and gives good feedback on speeches. That being said, he can also be pretty tough. For example, he will stop you mid speech to correct something youre doing. Lectures can be long and hard to get through, but the class is overall worth it and is pretty easy.
Honestly when I looked at his rate my professor it was nothing like how his class actually is. He's very rude, doesn't care about necessary absences, and will stop you in the middle of your speech multiple times to make you start over without good criticism. it is not constructive either. He does not help if you have a fear of PS or anxiety.
One of the worst classes i have ever taken! Would highly recommend NOT taking this professors course. He REFUSES to post grades, Is NOT available outside of class, due to the fact he doesn't own a cell phone. Every speech you have to give is extremely meticulous and he put a ridiculous unnecessary restrictions on your speech and topic. DO NOT TAKE!
Horrible professor, spends all class doing something you can complete if 15 minutes complete waste of time
I recently took this class, and noticed that these comments may be from a mad student but are 100% true. He failed more than half my class dropped the final due to bad planning and timing. This may seem nice but significantly reduces the ability to gain points near at the end of the semester. even reviews posted on a different day say its bad
Worst professor and worst class o have ever attended at Moorpark. He is extremely rude and bases the entire class around his entertainment. You are not allowed to speeches on topics he's already heard(past years included) so all the speeches end up dry difficult to memorize and chronically unmotivating to do them or even show up. Doesnt use canvas
Cal is a terrible professor and I wouldn't wish his class on my worst enemies. YES ITS THAT BAD. He doesn't use canvas or have a cell phone so you wont be able to contact him. His "speeches" are double the amount of every other class at moorpark and there ridiculously long. I retook this class with a different professor with no changes and got an A
Worst professor I have ever had. 90% of his "good reviews" he writes himself. Extreme expectations with ZERO room for error. Honestly its criminal what he is doing by falsifying his reviews causing students to fail. He should be fired from "teaching" in ventura. Take prof. sepulvida shes great
Provides HOURS of lectures in an asynchronous class but can only access the lectures live. If you miss a lecture even in an asynchronous course you're left in the dark. Convoluted and confusing grading, assignment modules and overall worst class ever. Requires so much unnecessary extra work than any other class that actually learned group comm. F++
I took public speaking with cal a few years ago and i can honestly say it may be the worst class i have ever taken. Cal requires 10 speeches and grades ridiculously hard, i got a D and failed. Next semester i took literary anyone else, they only had 5 speeches and 2 were "wing it", easy A. NOT CAL!
Cal is simply the worst period.
