Rock on, Cal. Thanks for the class.
Great class - my favorite. The class discussions were fun and informative. NO TEXT BOOK and Lots of EXTRA CREDIT. Most of the class, I think, got an A. Thanks Mr. Cal.
THE BEST EDUCATOR IN THE BUSINESS....
Pretty good and funny.A little lazy but all in all OK.The debates were a joke because of the judges."Ignorance is bliss" is my conclusion after spending 4 hours with my debate's partner preparing+2 hours on line to explain my opponent how to do the strategy.Anyway...the guy is funny and laid-back and I recommend him!Trust me,I'm an A student.
Prof. Cal is very helpful. I did not want to take a speech class (like most students) but he made the class very enjoyable to attend. The speeches were not hard to do and I thought that the debates were fun and interesting. He offers a FULL GRADE OF EXTRA CREDIT and requires NO TEXT BOOK. I earned my A with no problems. Good teacher!
Prof. Cal rocks! Very easy to get along with, very easy to understand. NO TEXTBOOK and LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT. Great class. Thanks, Prof.!
Professor Liedtke made me feel very comfortable and relaxed in class which is great because I was nervous about speech class. Yea, he requires NO TEXTBOOK. The debates were fun and if You do the extra credit you do not have to take the final exam. This was a good class.
No book, easy speeches, and the final exam is OPTIONAL. What else is there t
Good teacher. Very easy. HE loves The Beatles so picking them for a topic would be a good idea. Very BORING lectures. I slept through most of them. The final is extra credit. I took this class in the Summer piece of cake! He literally hands you the 'A' just do ALL your work, dress up nice when you give your speech (extra credit), and you'll do fine
the hardest part about this course is picking your speech topic. easy A
well his lectures are very interesting and he is humorous. he is one of those professor who can keep you awake throughout the whole class. however, his requirement for assignment is pretty vague. i need to do a speech on mon, sent him on sat then he said it was 2 late 2 comment.x negotiate for better score x recommed this class to ESL folks
Class is not that bad. He helps you to feel comfortable if your nervous about public speaking. Speeches are not that hard to write. But, do not bother emailing him with questions cuz he wont answer with something you can use, just makes you feel dumb for emailing him.
Prof. Cal is a very fine teacher. No textbook! His lectures are fun and if you listen to him AND ASK QUESTIONS then you'll learn. Do all of the prep work on time and you'll be fine. Lots of extra credit. He's FAIR in grading. Great class!
Easy A with lots of extra credit. NO TEXTBOOK.
Easy A with lots of extra credit. The final is optional. Fair grading. Fun and very helpful.
btw if ur topic is irrelevant to the subject because u r unsure what2do he will not give u marks for that assignment, which is like 50pts.
NO books required, however a lot of essays. Last speech is debate.
His a great teacher, however you must follow his instructions on all the speeches you write. giving a good speech not as important to him as being able to write one, he will deduct lots of points if its not written right. He'll make you work for an A.
No text book to buy! Mr. Cal hands out sample speeches for all of the assignments and all you have to do is follow them and you will get an A. He is funny and he makes the class very comfortable to be in. I was scared to take a speech class but Mr. Cal made it easy for me.
Take this professor. Lots of extra credit and NO TEXT BOOK to buy. Prof. Liedtke makes this class very safe and comfortable to be in & I was scared to take a speech class before this. He really helps you to improve your writing, too. I turned all my work in on time and got an A. Pretty easy.
i have never had such a bias teacher in my life. anytime i would pose a logical argument or question he would either ignore me or tell me i was wrong without any support for his own argument. bottom line i failed along with the other guys in my class while most of the girls passed with flying colors.
No text book required! He uses interesting and fun examples during his lectures. As long as you follow his instructions you'll do fine on his assignments! There are 3 speeches ( informative, persuasive, tribute) and one debate ( with any topic we did vampires v. zombies) Final is not mandatory.Take him!
He is very enthusiastic. He wants his students to succeed and does his extreme best to accomplish that. He uses fun examples in a way for us to understand what he expects from our speeches. I highly recommend this professor.
this prof. is pretty awesome. he's funny and he'll teach you a lot about how to write a speech. really laid back and interesting! no books either! he's a real people person too and he likes to share a lot of his personal expeirence. take this class!
This is great class to wake-up to. He is enthusiastic and funny. He has us write our speeches and it helped. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be interested in the debate team. Scared of taking speech? Go ahead and take Cal because he really helps you break your barrier. He also relates to current topics with your speech.
easy A if you just show up and follow his directions. if you are afraid to speak i still suggest this as its very laid back and fun. he is very funny and gives you a road map to succeed. he hates lateness, cellphones and no shows. plenty of extra credit too. he is a bit odd in personality(no to climate change and yes to UFO's) but he is funny!
No text book. Final not mandatory if you have an A. Practice your speeches before presenting and turn things in on time and do the extra credit. You will learn and greatly improve your public speaking skills.
Show up every lecture and BE ON TIME. If you cannot be on time then drop this class because he gives people who are tardy an extremely difficult time and deduct major participation points. He is not helpful and inapproachable but it is an attainable A.
Just finishing the semester now with an A. He hands out sample speeches for you to follow so there is no confusion as to how to get an A. NO TEXT BOOK and the final exam. is optional. There is a lot of extra credit so if you mess up you can make it up. Highly recommend.
Just finishing now with an A. Follow the speech samples that he gives you. Show up on time and take notes. The final is optional and there is NO TEXT BOOK required. The debates in class are fun. He give a lot of extra credit too. Recommend him.
Had Mr. Liedtke in the winter. Very laid back and he hands out sample speeches to guide you. He doesn't require a book and the final is optional. Yes -- lots of extra credit too. I was scared to death of speech but even I got an A.
He tells you what you need to say on your speech. It is the easiest class I have ever taken in my life. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this course if you want an A. Final is optional + NO TEXTBOOK!
Best professor I've had so far. Very approachable. Stays after class if you need extra help. Right, he does not use a textbook and the final is optional if yu have enough points. I had a great experience and I learned a lot.
Easy class.Nice teacher. No book required.Final is optional if you have an A.No quizzes. No class tests.3 speeches.1 debate.Easy pass.If you fail this class then you are one lazyy person.
This class is helpful, but pretty hard. I got a D even if I did homework every time and 100% attendance. Although I could learn something uesful, my GPA was getting lower...Sigh!
He's tough. A lot of students dropped his class. As a punishment, he always asks students to stand outside if someone's late. Don't take his class.
Easy class. I didn't even have to take the final exam as Prof. Liedtke makes this optional. His class is challenging but he really helps you if you ask. The flakes will drop as he doesn't tolerate lateness or using cell phones in class. No textbook required too. A good class to take only if you are prepared to show up and learn.
Professor, you came here to rate yourself while pretending to be your own students. Shame on you...
Professor, in the debate lecture you made your own judgement to the favor of the team you like, while ignoring the decision by the judges and vote by the audience. Plus, an asian student made a wonderful statement on her team, which were well accepted by everyone in the class. But you claimed that you heard nothing. This was totally unfair.
My friend told me she did rate herself on this website. Just check some previous comments. You will find there is something that only a professor knows about the class. For instance, how many students dropped the course.
If the instructor had revealed some TRUE numbers about the drop rate, pass/fail rate and average grade at the very beginning, I would have quited before the class became mission impossible.
Like many peers of the class, I missed the rescheduled final exam without being informed. When I was there, only a few minutes remained. It seemed that I had worked on the final a lot of hours previously, just for a ten minutes' rush. This reminded me of a PC game, "Half-life zero point". lol
every one said he was tough and didn't know how to teach..but i pretty enjoyed his class. i freaking hate speech ....he graded me fairly~ even i failed two articles, and final..i still past the course...
I assume it's fne for a professor to advertise his own course if he thinks it worth a try for the students. But he could do this by putting his ads on the course description through campus website. It is not decent for him to post any compliment on behalf of a student. Anyway it is "ratemyprofessor.com", not "ratemyself.com".
I have no idea about his impartiality, although I did not get a good grade. But I think you guys, if any of you are gona take his class, really need to negotiate about the difficulty level with him, and make sure you are clear about his grading standards.
It is not easy to evaluate speech performance. There are many things to be considered, accent, eye contact, fluency, etc., all of which cannot be quantifiable. That's why I think students attitudes and efforts must be counted as a large part in grading. However this professor gave almost no credit for hard working.
Just check other teachers for the same course. This guy's class has a terribly high drop rate and low average grades. There must be something wrong with his grading approach. Difficulty is not an excuse.
A good thing for this class is no text book required. And that's it. If you want to save your money, take this class, but at the cost of your GPA. You guys know the trade-off.
I just find some of this professor's self-advertising comments on previous rating pages. "No text book required" is highlighted everywhere. Is this really a good thing for learning a class? Only brainless students will take a class simply for saving book fees.
Based on the grade facts last semester, I want to say something about the teacher's preference. All beautiful girls earned the best scores. Those who paid most energy and time are ignored. If you are either urgly-looking or facially-challenged, dont take his class. Your personal appearance really counts a lot in the instructor's grading.
I haven't found out if there is a good speech class that really helps you a lot. So just take a course for the best grade. Plus, please exclude this one from your list.
Tough teaching, Non-sense grading,Indifference
Heavy workload. High drop rate. Ridiculous Grading.
Many other speech teachers got low ratings, but at least they gave you a good grade.
I'm a GPA 3.85 student. But he only gave me a C last semester. My GPA is 3.0 right now. It's hard to transfer. Don't take his class!!!
cool teacher but is very strict on grading and this discourages many of my classmates including me. does not look at your effort only your quality of work
Seriously? This was the easiest class EVER! Just follow the sample speech he gives you. He also gives SO MUCH EXTRA CREDIT that I got an A without even having to take the final! Just show up on time (every time) and simply copy his sample speeches with your topic. Anyone who even thought that this was a hard class should not be in COLLEGE!
transfer killer! Don't take it unless you don't wanna transfer to a good university.
I know it is unlikely to improve much simply through a few lectures. But just find some teacher who understands how to reward student's diligence and participation. This class has nothing for you.
Horrible class, my pain in the ass. Don't take it, you will suffer, my friend.
He knows his stuff, but his teaching agenda is pretty bad. He has no sense of pacing the class.Best part is probably the lack of book requirement and how all you need to do is follow his sample essays. He has a weird complex though. It's as if he acts the way he does JUST so people would talk to him after class. Also, his friendliness feels fake.
Professor is censorious of petty failings. And a lot of homework. Don't take it!
He is a really tough prof. I was trying to ask him questions and always felt like he was trying to get me out of class as quickly as possible. He said he would reply e-mail during office hours, however he only replied with 2-3 words and always be late. I think he was once trying to be an actor and didn't make it.
His class is the most stupid class I have ever taken. Too much homework and even you work hard, you still can't get great grade. Don't take it!
Horrible class! Prof. doesn't care what you think. No interaction, no group discussion! A lot of homework.
This professr is really inconsiderate of your efforts he grades down a lot and if doesnt like your work he will give it back and its a re do with points dedcuted or he will just give you a zero. He is not fair and very biased towards what he believes do not take him unless you have good charisma and will be on his side and perfect at everything
This is a serious class. Professor Liedtke is very helpful to those that are willing to work HARD. He is very strict about his guidelines, and grades accordingly. At first I thought he was being unreasonable, but stuck it out anyway. An A is attainable but you MUST work for it. Overall, I left the class a better student. Not for the faint of heart.
Half of the class quit halfway. Only a few of the remaining have a good grade(B+). Pretty pretty hard to survive.
Considering the fact that a high portion of students dropped the class, I think everyone who remained with full class participation and assignment completion could earn a "hard working" title. But why many of them still got a C or below? Because they failed to reason with Mr Lidtke since he was really unreasonable.
Yeah. The professor was very strict with his grading standard while leaving it unclear to students. It was understandable because it is very tricky to quantify one's speech performance. You have to spend some time finding out his preference and reasoning with him. I failed to do these things so I got a dump score. Anyway good luck.
It depends on your goal. If you expect to earn a GPA for your transfer plan, just dont take this class. An "A" is attanable but costly. Be ready to spend huge time and energy figuring out what the instructor likes and arguing about the grading.
You will find this class helpful because you can practise arguing and reasoning with your class instructor, which are sure to become part of your speech skills.
I think someone is using some strawmen ID here to advertise this course. Just take a look at previous comments. You will find this professor is strict with his guideline but students can also easily get an A by simply copying the speech sample. It is so obvious that who's behind this.
Lol. Professor, stop boasting about own class here. Shame on you. This is not ratemyself.com. I know there are two or three students who got A last semester. Nevertheless they would rather kill themselves than say it was a easy class.
You had better turn to your peers for consul in person. They will tell you how they felt about this class. More importantly, you will have a picture about the grading statistics. Dont believe any positive comments here. The only good point for this class is that "NO textbook required!".
The worst professor I have ever had. When you don't understand what he is trying to say and ask a question, he will act as if you are an idiot. DON'T Take IT!
Worst Professor I've ever had. Never clear, even on exam questions (though he does make a point of punishing students for unclear answers). Not helpful at all with students. Very annoying mannerisms, not clear, not open minded and arrogant.
He grades unfair. I will never take his any classes anymore. Never, ever, forever...
Some of the stuff he talks about in class is interesting but NONE of it is on the quizes or tests if u don't want to spend your whole semester trying to get B or C. He's also really arrogant.
Tough grading standards. Unreasonable instructor. Plus, dont believe any "good quality" comments here, for they were totally post by the professor himself.
He is a really interesting go to listen to talk and is kind of funny but he really doesn't teach all that much or in a way his students can understand.
I am very shy and get nervous easily, but he taught me how being prepared (rehearsing) can make a person less nervous and was a respectful professor. The consistent & consecutive negative comments appear to be from the same person who is probably disgruntled for some reason. It was an easy class and I got an A. I recommend him.
I will not recommend this class too you. No any power point about test. There is no grading standard for this class because we have never used textbook. Prof. only gives high grade to the student he likes. DON'T TAKE IT!
This class isn't easy at all. Too much homework. You can't be late just 3-5mins, or you will get a punishment which is standing outside. Lecture talks about nothing important, but test is really hard. I wanna drop it!
lecture is easy, but test is really hard. Some students have dropped already. No textbook, no grading standard. DON'T expect to get high score. I don't recommend this class.
If I had been here before, I would have never taken his class. It was the worst class I have ever taken. Don't take it.
The worst class I have ever taken. Professor only gives the high grade to the student he likes. Don't take this class!
The lecture is easy but test is pretty hard. No power point at all. The professor is picky. DO NOT TAKE IT!
I dropped it and added speech 10. This class is creepy. Many student dropped it already. It seems easy, but prof. is not that nice! I don't recommend this class!
The lecture is hard. No any make-up during whole semester. Too much homework. I wish I could drop it!
No textbook is true. But too much homework. Prof. doesn't give any chance to make up. No grading standard at all. some students dropped it already after 2 weeks... Don't take his class!
It's a horrible class! I am officially accusing the professor of grading bias in his marking. The test is hard without the grading standard. Too much homework. No power point. It was the worst class I have ever taken. Do not take it! I mean it!
This class is pretty hard. A lot of homework. The lecture is not about test at all. Picky grading...No make up. Not recommend...
His class is horrible! Too much homework. The lecture is not interesting at all. and even not about test! PLUS, he is a mean person! DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!
Do not take this class!!! The professor is very tough, a lot of homework, the test is pretty hard,no make up.
Class was boring, professor was incomprehensible, because his lecture is nothing about test! He said the midterm was going to be based on certain material, but the midterm covered completely different material.! Not recommend!
If you go to every class and do all the easy assignments you WILL an A. seriously he gives so much extra credit and the work is so easy you cant not get an A. he can be a jerk though but whatever you're getting an A
Easy A. Great instructor.
Prof. Cal is a very fine teacher. No textbook! His lectures are fun and if you listen to him AND ASK QUESTIONS then you'll learn. Do all of the prep work on time and you'll be fine. Lots of extra credit. He's FAIR in grading. Great class!

Just received my A. Easy speeches -- he gives samples for you to use so getting the A is easy. Lots of extra credit and NO TEXTBOOK.
Good teacher. Show up every day, turn in your work on time and you'll get a B or an A. If you are lazy and don't want to be in a COLLEGE class then this is not the class for you. I think the lazy students don't like him because he makes you work and learn.
Really bad teacher. I hate him! grading is totally unfair and hard!
Really the worst class I've ever taken! NO TEXTBOOK is true. But if you wanna get A, don't take it! NEVER! Also, so much homework that I can't believe!
I can't believe there is such a professor. No patient, no responsibility, and no sympathy. No one can get good grade except someone just he likes! NO GRADING STANDARD. I don't recommend this class!
Actually, his class is funny but not about EXAM at all. He even doen't have grading standard as someone said below. We're always performing speech during the class and this would be homework. So basically, you have to spend every week finding info. and writing. A LOT HOMEWORK is true. even that, you probably cannot get good grade.
The whole class is all about delivering your speech. You cannot be late just one second which make people tense! You don't need textbook but you have a lot of homework after class. No team-work which make people unaided! I don't like this class, a lot of student dropped already. !
This professor is so mean. Low grading standard and doesn't care about student at all. He always said that he would give students extra credit but which only for the students he like! Don't believe in him! I hate him! Don't take his class
Cal was awesome. Took him during summer 2010, MTWTh. Great lectures on types of communication and speeches. Great info on speech formats. If you can FOLLOW SIMPLE DIRECTIONS then you CANNOT POSSIBLY fail, and you SHOULD get an A. Awesome class, awesome professor.
Loved this guy!! It's really not that hard to get a good grade. Pay attention, do the work, PARTICIPATE IN CLASS DISCUSSIONS, and be friendly. He likes people who interact with him without being forced. He's pretty funny and the class was usually very entertaining. I don't know why everyone else has given him such a bad rap, he doesn't deserve it!
I thought he was great! Awesome storyteller! At the beginning of the class he addressed our fear of speaking in public. I thought he was very fair in his grading. Do the work, you get the credit-simple. There's a fair amount of homework but mostly research to write your speech. I enjoyed the class.
By far one of the best classes that I have ever taken. Cal is very passionate about the subject that he is teaching. He is very helpful, but you must work for an A in the class. I highly recommend taking this class if you want to have fun learning and if you want to become comfortable speaking in front of others! :)

Lidtke is a mixed bag, on one hand you learn a lot on the other hand he can be extremely degrading and confusing. His stories and assignments however are interesting and useful. Proceed with caution not for the faint of heart
I hate his class. This is the most horrible class I have ever taken! CLASS IS EASY BUT EXAM IS HARD.
worst teacher ever. he was not helpful at all and the only interest was about him being on drugg on meds. wost teacher ever
Follow the examples and guidline speeches he hands out and you will be fine. He is always open to questions. Do the extra credit in case you bomb a speech and there is no reason you cannot get an A. He grades on a point system so you always know where you stand. Returns work quickly and provides feedback.
One of the most interesting professors I've had. Very approachable. Like the LAKERS a lot so talk to him about it. Easy A Lots of extra credit and I didn't have to take the final.

Explains very clear and grade very fairly. Easy A if you DO THE WORK
He's a fun teacher to listen to but he grades difficulty and discourages with the grades he gives. He works at a fast pace
Hes a good Professor. Dont miss class. Tons of Extra Credit. Good amount of work. Follow his instructions and you will do fine. Enjoy
Everyone on here is right! This guy is great! I can't think of any way he could be a better teacher! Very inspirational! The class name should be changed from Speech to Confidence Boosting Class! I was terrified of speech before, then I looked on here, saw the great comments, then signed up for the class. I made a wise decision & I hope you do too!

Awesome teacher, really engages with the class and gets you to think. His topics and discussions really emphasize critical thinking. I learned a great deal from him in SPCH definitely a must take. Great guy

Easy class to get an A. But be to class on time. He has a lot of extra credit so I did not have to take the final.
Easy class to get an A. Lots of extra credit.
Just finishing up the spring term now. Excellent teacher. Always encourages you to turn in your work before it is due to make sure that you are A. Fun class, too.

Really enjoyed the speech class. No text book and lots of extra credit. Easy A if you want to go to college seriously. Lazy slackers -- do not sign up.
He will be crystal clear about his expectations and give you every chance to connect with him and ask questions. DO - complete every assignment, be respectful in class, and ask questions when you need help. DON'T - be late, be absent, be disrespectful of other student's presentations, or take your grade for granted. Very good class - recommended!
He is very clear about the work and sets you up to succeed. He teaches you all the tricks to delivering a proper speech. He doubled majored in speech & acting & will teach you a proper method to deliver a speech as though you are master of the topic. You have to be lazy to hate this guy.Best teacher I've ever had!! Highly recommended!!
Great instructor! Very Fair Grader! Show up to class on time, try your best on the speeches & DO THE WORK!! When he sees that you give a good faith effort, the least you can get is a B. If you slack off, don.t show up to class and if you don.t try doing the work. YOU WILL NOT DO WELL! Lots of extra credit so I didn't have to take the final.
Very good professor. Just finished the summer session with an A. Lots of EC so I didn't have to take the final. NO BOOK. His class hand-outs really help you to do the speeches.
One of the BEST professors I have taken at PCC so far! Class is never boring and the speeches are pretty straight forward. Plus you don't need a textbook & the final is optional! Only 4 speech's through the whole course. You won't regret taking him!!
Highly recommend Prof. Liedtke. Very personable and LISTENS to you. Really helped me to write an essay better. You need to show up on time. The final exam is OPTIONAL!
I really enjoyed Porf. Liedtkes speech class. He is very easy to talk to and get along with. The speeches are somewhat easy -- I was nervous at first. But he makes you feel relaxed. Lots of extra credit and the final is optional. Also, NO TEXT BOOK REQUIRED.
Cal is an awesome professor and makes speaking in front of people so easy! There is lots of extra credit in the class, so there is no reason you shouldn't get an A. He is very approachable and easy to get along with. As long as you're respectful and go to class, this course should be easy for you!
AWESOME CLASS. I LOOKED FORWARD TO GOING TO IT EVERY DAY. MR. LIEDTKE IS FUNNY AND RELAXED AND WANTS YOU TO SUCCEED. NO TEXT BOOK TO BUY. LOT OF EXTRA CREDIT.
Just finishing the semester now with an A. He hands out sample speeches for you to follow so there is no confusion as to how to get an A. NO TEXT BOOK and the final exam. is optional. There is a lot of extra credit so if you mess up you can make it up. Highly recommend.
Great professor. I hated talking in front of people before taking this class. Cal made it easy for me to give speeches with his laid-back attitude. He gives extra credit if you dress professionally for your speech! Lots of other extra credit too.
Lectures are pretty fun and go off topic. But he will degrade you when it's your time to do a speech. If you read from notecards too long he will tell you to just sit down and instant fail you in front of the class even if you show effort. Assignments are run of the mill, the speeches will be the hardest as you have to memorize and do not look down
pros -good stories -interesting political views cons -disorganized. forgot when assignments were due. forgot to bring handouts. -hard grader. half the class was failing. got good score but had to do ALL the extra credit. -late grader. didn't give out a single grade until wk 7. doesn't use canvas. -not a nice person. can be bully-like.
Worked very hard thought I did well and received a C. He is a horrible teacher favorites girls. I would highly recommend NOT I mean NOT take this class. Please save yourself time and Do NOT take this class
he is probably the most unlikable professor i've had. he's disorganized and forgets when assignments are due yet he expects you to remember them. he was failing half the class. speech is supposed to be an easy class. not with him. DON'T TAKE HIM.
Some professors just teach. Cal inspires. No book required. No final exam. I looked forward to going to his class.
Very easy class. Participation pretty much mandatory (but if you didn't expect that from a debate class then reevaluate your thought processes). He's annoying and tries to be cool. He is also very passive aggressive. He refuses to ever admit defeat. The debates are on interesting topics. The class is okay.
Cal is very clear with his expectations and even includes sample speeches for you to use as guidelines to do the work. Lost of extra credit and NO TEXTBOOK. It was pretty easy to get my A.
Took Liedtke for Speech 01, not only did I overcome my fear of public speaking, but I also learned some cool techniques that I will know forever. Very fair with his grading, and will let you know from every speech you give what to work on for the next one, so you can only get better if you're serious about your grade. Funny guy too! Take him!

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. One of my favorite professors at Moorpark College. He teaches things that help with schoollife in general, not only speeches. If you allow it to happen, this class can really up your confidence. Very warm teacher, genuinely wants to see students succeed.
Just passed with an A during my summer class at Moorpark College. Lots of extra credit. I di not look forward to take a speech class but Cal made the class very comfortable.
THOUGHT THAT SPEECH CLASS WOULD BE BORING AND SCARY. PROF CAL NOT ONLY MADE THE CLASS COMFORTABLE TO GIVE SPEECHES IN WITH NOT PREASURE BUT I LIKED COMING TO THE CLASS EVERY DAY. ME AND MY GIRLFRIEND PASSED WITH AN EASY A -- LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT TOO IF YOU MAKE MISTAKES.
Prof. Lidkey was very one of my best teachers at Moorpark without a doubt. I was afraid to take a speech class but he made it easy an comfortable. Recommend him.
Take Liedtke if you want to improve your self confidance and your GPA. Easy A.
Professor Liedtke's public speaking is definitely the class to take. I did it over the summer and only 5 speeches around 6-8 mins. Follow the rubric of each speech. If you show that you prepared, used mostly eye contact, and visual aids you should get an A. You don't have to be that great at speaking, as long as you TRY, LISTEN, AND PARTICIPATE!
Ok, so first off all if you like arguing with a professor, this is the class to take. He will ask you to share your opinions but won't really consider them. Its a speech class and all he does is talk about himself and wont really teach the proper way to announce a speech he expects you to learn from your failures. so i basically learned nothing.
For a person who is terrified of public speaking I have actually enjoyed this class and feel like I have gained confidence from it.
Professor Liedtke is a great teacher and he really cares about the students doing well in all his courses.
He was very clear with what he wanted you to do in each speech. He includes sample speeches from past students for you to follow. The class is an easy A if you follow the guidelines. He is a great motivational speaker and often knows everything that goes on in the news and current TV shows. You can talk to the guy about anything.
Hey is one of the best teachers I have ever had! He makes perfect sense in what he is asking for but also conveys speech criteria in an extremely funny way! If you take speech, take Cal!
Cal is a really cool professor and has student's best interest at heart.
Mr. Liedtke is a true educator, one of few I have been lucky to come across in my academic career. He genuinely cares about the development and growth of each individual student and will do anything within his reach to help guide you to success. you will have to put in the work but you will feel supported at every step. Invaluable.
He asks for a little too much. His speech formats turn into about a four page speech. As far as extra credit, many did it however only about four out of thirty students received it. He is extremely picky! He will make you work for the grade. This class felt more like an English 1A class. If you do take his class, all I can say is, good luck.
My experience in Cal's speech class was good -- easy A. His assignments are clear -- he even gives you sample speeches to use to compare you work with previous student's who got an A on their assignment. So the expectations are very clear. A girlfriend recommended that I take Cal for speech and I'm glad I did.
Really good class, excellent professor. He is very laid back, so the environment in the classroom is relaxed, but his lectures are actually on-point and super-informative. If communication is your passion, this is a great professor to know and study with. Always available to discuss concepts and explore new ideas, never too busy to help.
Ok so here's the deal with his class. He's a good professor. He does have you write out your speeches like essays, BUT he's very clear about what he wants on it. And he even gives a sample speech. No tests except for the final which is optional if you're doing well. Good professor, just very picky how he likes the work done.
Cal is an excellent teacher. I looked forward to his class every morning -- at 7:00 AM!!!! Thanks, Cal.
He only gives extra credit to those students he likes. In addition, he likes to make fun of students. Also, I felt I was being discriminated. For example, one day after class, we were lining up to ask for all the grades we have earned this semester the student in front of me were asking the same question but I got different attitude.
Cal is very clear with the course grading criteria which helped me a lot. He even passes out sample speeches from previous students. Right -- Cal is not PC. What a breath of fresh air! He always makes himself available after class for individual help.

I am re taking this course now (summer) because I just didn't have my act together in the spring. Mr. Lidkey lays out very clear instructions (sample speeches) and his grading method is clear and getting an A is easy. Yes, he is not PC wich is refreshing from a college professor. Take his speech class.
I enjoyed Liedtkes speech class very much. I was afraid to get up to do me speeches but he made me feel very relaxed. He was always open to me asking questions after class which was a big help. I passed this class which I was scared to take with ease. Great teacher.
I took Cal's speech class from a friend's recommendation. I am GLAD I did. I didn't want to take a speech class but Cal made me (and the class) feel very relaxed and comfortable. His grading is very objective and fair. He even hands out sample speeches for you to follow -- for every assignment. Also - lots of extra credit. I earned an A.
worst professor on earth.
He is a very chill professor, and gives amazing examples that perfectly explain the point he's trying to get across. He doesn't expect you to memorize your speeches, but he does expect a lot of eye contact (which is understandable). We had about 6 speeches. He explains exactly what he wants in the speech and how it should be organized. Some weird speech topics, but it was a fun class. Definitely recommend! It's easy if you just follow what he says (which he explains very clearly). Also EXTREMELY helpful and gives good feedback!
I am terrified of public speaking !I speak super fast and thought it would hold me back. Cal really puts you in a position to get an A, he! All you need to do is put effort that you are trying and he will give you a passing grade! He has a great sense of humor, and makes class mandatory but with the stories he shares its enjoyable !
Professor Liedtke is an amazing professor. His approach to teaching is more orally based rather than any papers being supplied or having a textbook. For me, this allowed for a more organic approach to learning than in the case where a textbook is provided and supplies much of the format to giving speeches. Final exam is optional and notes are used.
Cal, is a very good professor. I learned how to write better in an essay format. He gave out a sample of the mid-term speech, which was helpful. Clear format. I rec'd not to miss a class or be late, just cause you might missed an important tips how to do a speech. No textbook needed. Do the extra credit. Final Exam is optional! Grade Fairly.
Cal is amazing! I did not want to take a speech class AT ALL but Cal made all of us feel comfortable going up to speak to the class. No textbook needed and his lectures are entertaining. He mainly focuses on the structure & writing of the speech. Extra credit opportunities are also given out! So glad I took him for this course, I recommend!
Professor Liedtke is one of the best professors I have had in my college experience. He REALLY WANTS EVERY STUDENT TO EARN AN A! He is casual and very open to LISTENING to you and your thoughts. Yes -- take him for speech!

Great teacher, great class. At first I was a little thrown off by some of his remarks and comments, then I grew to understand where he is coming from. Very traditional, and very supportive! He will call you out if you're not prepared or if you're lazy.
Mr. Lidkey wants all students to earn an A and he is very clear in his grading. He even give sample speeches from former students for you to compare your work to. Plus -- he is very honest, direct, and hates political correctness. Lidkey really tells it like it is -- very refreshing. Take his speech class.
Cal Liedke is a great teacher. We need more like him. I have learned so much.
Worst professor I've ever taken! I am glad to be over with his class. It was easy to get an A, but he's just a difficult person. There are many great professors at PCC so do yourself a favor and DON'T TAKE HIM.
Amazing professor. He is very clear in his instructions and he gives out sample speeches from past students for you to study. True, if you are lazy then this class is not fro you. He offers lots of extra credit so if you mess up then you can still get a good grade. Cal makes a stressful subject very comfortable. I'm glad I took his class.
Lidkey is clearly among the best professors at PCC. Take him.
Very happy to have taken Professor Liedtke for my speech class. He made me feel very comfortable. He is one of the best professors I have had in my college experience. Highly recommended.
GREAT INSTRUCTOR! Very fair grader -- he gives you very detailed handout and sample speeches to refer to. If you show up on time every day, do the speeches with a good faith effort, and ask questions you will not get less than a B. Very funny and VERY RELAXED class. Note to slackers: don't bother. He does not put up with your drama and games.
If you do not do exactly what he says, you will not get an A. With that said, he makes it very clear what is required so that should not be a problem. If you're a slacker or miss class/are late often, this is not the class for you. Very doable class.
He's passionate professor that wants you to succeed but gives waaaaay to much hw for a speech class. He talks way to much during his lectures and does not use time wisely. Take this class is you do not want an easy A. Requires not only outlines, but essays as well.
Gives too much homework for a speech class. For 3 units it was too much work. The essays have to be written a certain way how one would have to write for an english class. Want a hard speech class in which you will "LEARN" then take this class. Talks through all class and does not use time very wisely.
He was the BEST teacher I have ever had. He genuinely cares about his students and he wants us to succeed. Shows us not to settle and aim higher (made me change my mind about going to one school for another). He is super hilarious, had me laughing so hard! He is strict about attendance, you can't miss more than four times. 2 Essays & 5 speeches.
Wow. Im currently taking speech 1 (winter) and this has been such a pleasure. I am absolutely terrified with public speaking, but Professor Liedtke makes it a in class. Hes very clear with everything and offers a lot of extra credit. He always doesnt require textbook. His lectures are wonderful and funny. I would strongly recommend taking him.
Prof. Liedtke is an excellent teacher. I am taking him in the Winter session. Earning an A. He is a very interesting prof. We all look forward to class with him. Take his class.

Prof. Liedtke is the best prof that I have had. I did not want to take a public speaking class. However, Liedke made me feel very comfortable and her helped me learn to write the speech. After a few weeks I actually looked forward to meeting in class every day. Take his speech class!

What a fantastic Professor. I feel like we need more like Mr. Liedtke! I have horrible anxiety in front of people, but for some reason I really looked forward to every lecture. I can listen to them any day. Please take speech with Liedtke! You wont regret it
Professor Liedtke really made speech easy for us. He has his own way of boosting his student confident. You might get offended by some of his comments but he's a funny guys so don't feel like he's making fun of you. He's caring for his student and really helps his student passed. 5 speeches and 2 essay, he will show you step by step how to get an A
Professor Liedtke was an interesting professor. The class is mainly based on writing papers and giving oral presentations in front of the class. If you suck at writing or giving oral presentations, this class probably isn't for you. I personally found the class easy, because of the fact writing is easy for me.
Excellent. Prof. Liedtke really likes teaching and he want you/us to earn an A. His grading criteria is VERY CLEAR and he even hands out sample speeches from past students who have earned an A. Turn in your work on time, attend class, follow the handouts -- this public speaking class was an easy A.
Best professor I've had at this college. VERY clear assignment criteria. Always availabe before or after class. Take his speech class.
Best professor I've had at this college. VERY clear assignment criteria. Always availabe before or after class. Take his speech class.
In this class you have to calculate your own work to know the grade ,and he is also a though grader . I would not recommend this speech class if you want a easy pass .
Excellent teacher. Mr. Cal really helps you to succeed. He gives out sample speeches and the instructions for every assignment are clear. He helps you before and after class if you want. He is very positive. Lots of extra credit. Me and most of the class got easy the easy A or B.
Professor Cal is very compassionate. I was very nervous and did not want to take a public speaking class. However, Prof. Cal improved my self-confidence and made me feel very comfortable. He is very understanding of our anxiety. The assignments are clear and he provides samples to follow. Lastly, he offers lots of extra credit if you mess up.
Great professor. Would definetly take him again. Just wish that he taught my film history class too.

This class was great! His lectures are fun and interesting. Probably most relevant class I've taken at this school. Definitely taking another class from him.

Public speaking is a terrifying class and Cal made it not scary at all. He totally bonded our class and helped every student succeed. One of the best teachers I have ever had, and for a class I really didn't want to take. Cal is a Fantastic teacher.
best professor ive ever had. he made public speaking so easy and comfortable. I would take him for every class if i could. most caring honest and funny professor. i was terrified to speak in front of people and he made me a great speaker. 5 total speeches and he is very patient with students. dont take anyone else!!

Got the A this summer (2018). Easy class. Mr. Lidke gives u clear directions and even sample speeches to use. The final is optional. Recommend taking this speech class.

Professor Lidkey gives a full course grade of extra credit in his speech class. How can you not get the B or the A? Great class.
Mr Cal taught me so much about how to write a good college paper. More than any english class. He is very clear with how you earn your A and gives out sample speeches. Plus he is easy to get along with. Great professor.

Worst teacher you could ask for. Will interrupt you and try to humiliate you. Doesn't keep time well his outdated timer. Blamed students for not learning when he didn't teach anything just ranted on everyday with his stories about his failed acting career. A real "Drama Queen"
A real gem. Prof. Lidtke taught me how to write for collage. What a relief! I am also very comfortable with who I am and how to speak in front of a group. Also Lidke is very clear on assignments and how he grades. He gives sample speeches and so on. Very easy class to come to. I got an A.
Really great professor. He makes taking a speech class comfortable and no preasure. He was easy to talk to during and after class. He really wants everyone to get the A. But, if you are not ready for collage OR act like a fool (previous comment) then you should not take his class.

If you just show up then you're fine. If you're nervous about public speaking take his 7 am class and get it over with in the morning so you don't have to worry about it later in the day. He is the nicest guy. Just do what he asks of you, and you'll easily pass with an A.
I loved Lidkey's speech class, he is a great professor and his class was a lot of fun. We had about five speeches with varying topics and as long as you completed it on time and did your best you could get a B or A. Some speeches require research, make sure it is accurate because he is a knowledgeable guy. I definitely recommend his class

Take his 7:00 AM class. Time flies by. Like everyone else says, one of the best professors at PCC. Take his class, you wont regret it.

He must pay people to write his reviews. This clown should not be allowed within 100 yard radius of a classroom. Did not learn anything while sitting listening to his ramblings.
Winter session 2019. After just the first day of class I know that Prof. Liedtke will be awesome. He is incredibly inspriational, honest and direct. Very easy to relate to. I finally want to go to college!

Easy class. Don't miss any speeches and you're guaranteed to pass.
He has a very dry sense of humor, so at first it was hard to tell if he was joking about something or not. He grades pretty easily and is encouraging with speeches, but there is a lot of speech prep to do. There is extra credit. As long as you do your work and present your speeches on time, this class will be pretty easy. No textbook necessary.

I actually really looked forward to this class. He truly wants you to get a good grade, but also wants you to learn. Do the work, dont BS it. SHOW UP TO CLASS. BE RESPECTFUL. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. :))
Professor Liedke was a great teacher, giving helpful feedback. If you do the assignments you'll get an A. Attendance is important with the amount of information to cover. He has a great sense of humor which makes the class fun including the lectures. I would recommend this class to others. Syllabus is clear with assignments and points per task.

Hands down the worst professor I have ever had at PCC. Don't get me wrong this is also by far the easiest class I have ever taken. Throughout the semester, ESPECIALLY the first day, he makes degrading and inappropriate comments about women. He dosent set up canvas so it is almost impossible to reach him and when you do he's very rude. don't take.
Lidkey is by far the best professor I've had yet. He cracks jokes all the time and makes coming to class fun. I don't dread his class like i do with others. He's got a great personality and knows what he's talking about when it comes to public speaking. He makes so many students feel comfortable in his class. I highly, highly recommend taking him.

Prof. Lidkey is an awesome teacher. He knows what he's talking about and he does his best to get students interested in the subject. He tells you what you need to work on and lets you know exactly what he's looking for.
Class was an easy A because he gives out sample speeches and the assignments are very clear. Grading was very up front -- no guessing at the end of the semester. The final exam was optional. So do the extra credit.
Coming from someone who did not want to ever take a speech class, this was a great class. follow the formats of the speeches and it is an easy class. show up, do the speeches and you are gold.
Cal is the biggest cheerleader for your success in a class that can be very nerve racking. Ask questions in class or strike up a conversation with him before class. He will help you through it. He collects vinyl records which I think is awesome.
Just finished spring term. I was afraid of a speech class but Cal made the class very relaxed and stress free. He gives you sample speeches to follow. Very straight forward. I made it! Take this class.
Among the best professors I have had. Do not stress out about public speaking. Very clear assignments and he includes sample speeches to help you. Lots of extra credit and he wants you to succeed. Very relaxed class. Highly recommended!
Great professor. Loved his everyday enthusiasm and his love for the subject.
What I found most helpful was how Prof. Cal taught me to become a better speaker. I felt less shy and more confident about my ability to speak in front of people. Excellent class and Professor.
Chill professor. Chill class.
Prof. Cal has great energy to keep you involved. Especially if you take a morning class.
He's a very inappropriate professor, he is unable to teach students the vital tools to create a great speech. Horrible professor whoever hired made a mistake
Easy class. Mr. Lidke gives u clear directions and even sample speeches to use. The final is optional. Recommend taking this speech class.
Just finished this class (Fall 2019). Like most students I earned an A. Very clear grading criteria. Very easy to talk to. Knows the subject well.
Cal is a great choice for Speech. He makes the first 2 speeches easy to warm you up for the 3 mandatory ones. Extra credit each speech for dressing nicely. Be sure to follow the format he requires for your written speech, because the bulk of the grade for each speech. Final's not necessary or graded harshly. No book. Just notes and a few handouts.
Prof. Liedtke is by far the best speech prof you can ask for. He gives out extra credit work and when you dress professionally during your speech. His grading criteria is by points. He is a cheerful yet kindly strict. Just as long as you participate and follow his instructions, you'll definitely pass with an easy A.
I agree -- Prof. Cal really wants EVERYONE to get the A. His handouts (no book) are straight forward and the grading criteria for ever assignment is very plain. He also give you sample speeches to follow. Plus, he loves vinyl records. The final is OPTIONAL and he give lots of extra credit. Take his class.
Mr. Cal has Great enthusiam in the class. He really knows what he is talking about and he really wants you to understand and get a good grade. The fact that he gives you sample speeches from past students to help you is a big help. Take his speech class.
Just finished the Winter class with an A. He is very engaging and encouraging and supportive. He is available to talk with you before and after class. I really liked that he gives you sample speeches to follow. If you just do the work which is not a lot and do it on time getting a B or an A is no problem. Also, there is lots of extra credit.
Hands down best person to take this class with. He is so caring and wants all his students to do well. He prepares you for speeches and gives you confidence to go up.
I LOVED this winter class! He makes you work for your grade but really cares about his students and is always willing to help you succeed. He made a 7am class very fun and entertaining, I actually enjoyed going. You will learn so much. Extremely clear grading criteria, NO unnecessary homework (only writing the 3 speeches) and the final is OPTIONAL!
Rambles on making out of date analogies. Dangerously out of touch; due COVID19 the class went online, he didn't return students their essential work needed for a speech that was due until after the due date!? Grading is very chaotic. DOES NOT reply to emails. This kind of professor may be fun for people who want C's but not for people seeking A's
Spring 2020 - Speech class on Canvas. Prof Cal does not meet with class (zoom) during scheduled class time. He posts assignments, lecture material, EC, etc. on Canvas and gives you the time to do the work at your own pace. Really great if you sign up for his evening OR early morning class. He replies to my emails on the same day - every time.
Mr. Cal was great during the Covid19 Spring. He answered my questions in Canvas the same day I sent them. He allows students to work at their own pace and upload speech videos. He has office hours too so you can ask questions.
Nobody likes the COVID19 classes -- BUT Mr. Cal answered my emails on the same day and was helpful in Canvas with "office hours". The speeches were not difficult but saying them to my computer was a little strange. My advice - stay connected with Mr. Cal as he will help you to get the A.
Took him this summer. I was worried that I would fall behind do to online class. He met the class four times every week and had office time on zoom. This is very helpful cause I am struggeling with online school.
I liked that Mr. Cal held live class lectures two times a day so that I could work and still be at the meetings. He is very helpful and flexible with your work.
i like him he is a good teacher, he is very clear on what he wants in a speech which makes it easy.
Very clear on his expectations for each assignment. He answers emails quickly, has plenty of zoom office hours to answer questions, and offers many extra credit opportunities. Get feedback on speeches before they're due. He is very caring and truly wants everyone to do well in his class. Take him!
He grades pretty easily and is encouraging with speeches. There is extra credit. As long as you do your work and present your speeches on time, this class will be pretty easy. No textbook necessary.
Trust me Ive been avoiding a public speaking class but this one was a zoom call and it definitely helped with my nervousness. Take his class you wont regret it!

Cal is a laid back teacher, very helpful, wants you to succeed, and is a bit of a character. I was only able to attend his class in person for a couple of weeks before the pandemic, but he was still helpful online. He graded off of a few papers, but gave tons of help before you submitted, so it made it easy to pass!
Encourages students to message him their work early so he "can help them succeed" but will ignore it. Students message each other to see if he can be reached cuz he doesn't respond. Confusing quizzes. The speeches are easy tho cause he gives clear directions on what to do. Easy A if u follow directions well but dang it's stressful. Avoid 4 Winter
Mr. Cal is a good choice for speech. He helped me with a special project for honors credit (which really saved my butt for my TAP Certification). Clear instructions for every speech and great examples. Winter intersession was intense but it was definitely doable. Liked how he had lectures twice a day with posted recordings. A caring professor!
Professor Liedkey replied to my emails the very same day - wow! He is amazing. He truly cares about students and wants to see you succeed. He provides great feedback and lots of encouragement. Be respectful, do the work, be in the moment and learn as his classes are great! Highly recommend him for in-person or online.
Professor Lidkey has been the most helpful teacher! I loved taking his class. I recommend to anyone looking to take a communication class. He is helpful, kind, and very caring. He makes you feel comfortable. 10/10 would recommend!
What was most important to me was that Mr. Cal was very supportive and wanted me to succeed. I have avoided taking a speech class but I am very glad that I took it with Mr. Cal. Also - he has sample speeches for all assignments and he will grade your work before you turn it in so you can make changes. I got an A.
Awesome. Such a great person and truly cared about me learning something useful in life. Take him!
Please don't be fooled by professor Eli's one bad rating. He is very caring and helps his students succeed. You do have to brush up on the modules for the final exam but overall very doable. ALSO!!!! DO THE EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENT HE OFFERS NEAR THE END OF THE SEMESTER. There is two different ones but both are very easy to complete. Good Luck :)
If you don't leave your work to the last minute and do the extra credit assignments for the class you will do amazing. The Professor is super caring and considerate, he will guide you and is helpful by always answering any question you have. He is organized, grades fairly. He usually has a specific outline he wants you to follow. Loved this class!
doesnt give any constructive feedback and literally copy and pastes the same responses to multiple students. will not allow speeches on climate change or abortion unless youre arguing against them! extremely rude and short with responses. wont help you succeed and he is extremely incompetent. pick a different professor if you dont wanna waste$$
He was an below average professor but it was an easy A. Does offer extra credit but never responds to emails. As a person he is very miserable to be around as he leaves unnecessary remarks and thinks he is clear when giving feedback but is really not.
Gives lots of work but it's not the most difficult. Attending his online calls will make the work immensely easier. Really good at answering emails.
Easy going class. I took his class this spring semester. He provide all example and guide lines. So, easy to A, just need to finish 4 speech. He provide a very clear grade guide line. English is not my first language, however, easy to get A. He just want follow some rules that is a common senses and basic manners.
He was a very good professor and one of my favorites this past term but he sometimes couldn't hear what we said and we would have to repeat it multiple times and loudly. Kinda a hard grader but you need to proofread it and make sure your speeches are something you're interested in.
Mr. Cal has created a Canvas class that is easy to navigate and very easy to complete. I took his on-line speech class last summer and got through it with ease. Plus, Mr. Cal is available outside of class and answered my email the same day. Easy peasy. Oh -- there is extra credit, too.
Quiz you on random Youtube videos not related to speech. Unclear and hard to read lesson pages. Picky on video recordings. If your ceilings too high, he takes off points. Don't have 4x6 notecards? Too bad, cause it will cost you 5 points. Zoom meetings are pointless and nonrelated. First time that a class has been this annoying and frustrating
Literally the most frustrating class I have ever taken. Every speech topic I would choose to make a speech on, he would find a problem with and deduct points. The quizzes are the most confusing quizzes ever. He does provide extra credit which I suggest doing due to how hard he grades! Would not recommend taking him.
Professor Liedtke never responded to emails, wasn't understanding whatsoever. Lectures were terrible he would just ramble and go on tangents for 3/4s of the class. He would only teach at the last hour of the class.
Cal is terrible, this guy doesn't even own a cellphone and doesn't use a computer... he has a pager. so don't expect your grades to get posted, you will be in the dark until he fails 70% of the class at the end of the semester.
