Ok, teacher, His test are easy, all multiple choice and give questions to study straight from tests, and but labs kinda hard, but you can do it, So is easy if work and show up everyday and do the work, if not then hard
class is easy. just study the packets and you'll be fine.

his class is really interesting because it teaches you somethings you really never think about but it can be hard to understand him sometimes and if you really haven't had your cup of joe in the morning you just might fall asleep my advice is to sit in the front of the class.
I'm pre-med. This was the biggest waste of time. I didn't learn anything. I made a C only because I actually tried to learn the material. People around me never showed up, just got the answers to all the packets, memorized them word for word, & made an A. Don't expect to learn anything. My advice: Never go to his class, memorize packets, make an A.
Don't really like his class. ~200 question modules can take tremendous time. not very staightfoward. on module or not- test or not, lecture or not, don't how much class really grasps concepts.
He is the worst professor ever!!! Dont buy the textbook cuz you will waste your money. I never cracked the book the whole semester. Memorize the test questions and answers he gives you before cuz it IS THE TEST!!! Attendance isnt required but he says it is the 1st day of class. Labs are easy, when he lectures he reads off slides. LEARNED NOTHING!!!
Just thinking about being in his class makes me mad. I have never taken a bigger time waster, and he is a horrible professor. you learn nothing and you have to memorise 1000 questions word for word to pass. Avoid taking him, even if you have to go to a different campus. He is the worst thing to ever happen to the field of microbiology...
Very intelligent, very well-informed. AWFUL teacher for this level. Assumes you know a lot more than the prerequisites for this class call for. Learned very little. Memorized a lot. Tutor (Andrea) a lot less than helpful or dependable.Text is really not appropriate for this class- way too hard to understand, way too organic-chemistry heavy.
Although he is extremely intelligent, I do not recommend taking him. If you are a nursing student this course will not help you. You will learn nothing because it is all memorization! I never even bought the book. It's useless unless you want to teach yourself!!
He is so straightforward on what is expected....exactly, no surprises. He is very much aware that there is alot of course material to cover on such a difficult subject for some, and so he has tons of review questions before the exam....find the answer as you read your text and you will Ace his exams...a great way to learn th material..it works!
Dr. Makukutu's class is not easy and it should't. This is College not high school. By now we should know how to study. His class even so is complicated it is still very interesting. He is very helpful if you approach him. He is open to any kind of opinions, and his modules are very helpful to get an "A".
Class time was extremely boring! He rarely dicussed anything you needed to learned for the test. However,if you find it easy to memorize 1000 questions from his modules for the semester, you have the class made. All and all, he is a nice guy just really boring!
You have to be well disiplined for this class! This teacher is no joke you have to study all of the time! Dr. Makukutu changed the way the class used to be now it is much harder! He gives at least two papers now when there were none before and more hw and quizes. Good luck if you take Dr Makukutu! He is very smart and knows the material well!
There is so much information to be covered in a short time that I believe this class should be divided into two sections-like A & P. Attend class, read your text, understand module questions-not just complete them; and you should do fine. Professor tries hard to fit everything in-just not enough time.
Professor is fair and flexible. Material is difficult but he tries to lecture in a way that brings things down to earth. Didn't use the book very much other than to research material that needed more clarification. Module questions were mainly the test but toward the end, other questions were added that were tough. Must study quite a bit for an A.
horrible teacher..at the beginning he seemed to be tough but able to learn from. we are down to like 10 people in class of which probably 1 is passing. no one understands what hes teaching. he is just everywhere. be prepared to study like no other and guess what his tests are going to be on. the labs are pointless. really ruined my semester!!!!
GREAT Professor. Many students were expecting this to be an easy "A" for them, meaning no student wants to actually study and do any work. However, it is imperative that students learn the value of studying before entering a 4 year college where the game is very different.
He doesn't use the $250 text book and, in fact, states that the text book is not 100% accurate anyway. He uses his own notes in class that do not follow the text book.He gives 100-200 question homeworks that take, on class average, 3-4 hours for 50 questions. Impossible exams. I'm an A student with a 3.85 gpa and I got a C.
Got an A, but I would recommend avoiding taking this professor if at all possible. Extremely difficult. No more modules. Has trouble getting info across. Tests are impossible!!! He must have done some serious grade curving.
He will make you mad. His lectures are long and off topic and do not help you one iota with the tests. He just talks and talks. But you can get an A: he curves everything because many of the students in the class are STUPID. Just recognize that it will be mostly independent study and a lot of work.
He is the most confusing professor. His accent is very strong and you can't always understand him.He is a horrible teacher, don't take him unless you want a "C" or you want to fail.
Everything that everyone has said is true expect the easy. Part.Easy it is not!he doesn't teach the material. Test were never what you study for. Homework packages only cover about 5-10 questions on test. Waste of time! My advice If you want to save your sanity and GPA at the end.Don't! You may think if you only study. Think again.
Took his med. micro class over a 6wk summer term. He discussed his personal stories and read off PowerPoints students have access to. This should have been an online class with maybe 3 required lab sessions. We only memorized the textbook on our own time & the 4hr classes were a waste of time. If you want to LEARN, try another instructor.
I took his med-micro class over a 6 week summer session. His lectures are long and boring. He doesnt teach the material on the tests. However, can make an F and still pass because he curves everything. If you really want to learn you have to read and study on your own. His class is a waste of time.
Took Medical Micro. He is very hard. He does not teach what is going to be on his test. Every test is a new surprise. He told us that we will probably hae to read each chapter 3 or 4 time in order to pass his test. Choose a different campus or a different prof.
I am a 4.0 student, and I study at least 50 hours a week. This class was definately, a self-study. Makukutu has no concept of time management. The majority of the class was failing and he had to give 15 to 20 point curves to keeo everyone from failing. You must be good at studying, cause you will learn nothing from him. Good luck!! you need it!
Although, I got an A in his class this class was very challenging! I took a full course load, 12 hrs, and devoted ALL my studying to his class. His TA's are a little helpful but can be smart asses. They do have a study session before class which helped me on his tests.
He is a very hard teacher. Be prepared to work, study, and fight for your grade. I barely came out with a B and i worked for it. He curves which is great! I would not recommend taking him...
His Medical Micro class is not easy, be prepare to do some serious studying. A&PI and II are a piece of cake compare to his medical micro. This is not a class you can say"Easy A". However, I am one of those who believes, that a tough professors are often the best. I can still say he is a great professor even thought I made a "B".My first "B"incolle
A challenging subject but very interesting. Prof. Makukutu is very helpful so ask questions both during and afer class. There is no short cut to an excellent grade, be prepared to work and study smart.
Dr. Makukutu is a very intelligent man. That said, he is perhaps the worst professor I have ever had. (I have completed 180 college credits with a 3.79 GPA.) His lectures are off topic, and his time management is poor. He did not follow his syllabus and blamed the class because we were "too slow in learning the information". DO NOT TAKE HIM!
This professor is a hard, but really GREAT professor. There is no such thing as an easy A in his class but if you work smart with your studying, you WILL pass his class and walk out of there with the knowledge you need. If you go into this class with out bias, and pay attention, you will get the grade you want. Just STUDY!!
Took him for microbiology. He is a very smart man. His lectures DO NOT reflect his tests, a lot of it comes from the book, so his tests are hard. BUT he does give a lot of 20-30 point curves, so that could bump you up to an easy A on his tests. Labs are kind of boring and repetitive. Interesting subject, just not enough time to learn it all.
I'm a student with a gpa of a 3.8 and this was a really tough class. If it weren't for the 20-30 point curve I wouldn't have made my A in this class. Honestly, I don't think I left this class with the knowledge that I needed to know. Also, labs are boring and his lectures do not reflect the test so don't bother listening.
He is the worst professor I have ever taken. His lectures are unrelated to the class. I didnt learn anything from this class. He talks about his life story the whole time. He doesnt reply to emails. His test are hard but he does curve pretty much everthing because just about every student fails. I wouldnt recommend him! There is no guidance!
Pretty much on the books all the time. The things he talks about are quite interesting if we cared to listen. He's a public health guy. Talks about about the danger in our environment and not just microbial related. I would study the handouts he give us and look for more resources online to get through his class. good luck.
MOST hated class I have ever taken in my life. You have to teach yourself. The lectures are so boring-you'll most likely zone out. He is a very nice person, funny too. NOT a blow off class, a lot of work has to be put in. And even when you put in work, don't expect an A on tests. He DOES give extra credit points to tests so an A isn't impossible.
Lectures are nonsense and didnt learn from them. He talked about irrelevant topics and doesn't give you the concept of micro. You turn in you labs twice and a paper all of which has no rubric/guidelines. He then assigns a grade that is inconsistent w/ other students. The frustration was extremely high because i was often clueless about my grade.
dislike everything about this class. I recommend taking it at another campus.
What upsets me more than anything in this class is that he test you over material that he never talked about. Stupid test questions that came directly from the authors test bank. You practically memorize test questions. He does not explain to student to reason through the test question. Helpless.
There were students in my class that made 120 on exams while most made 40s. I am amazed that students were able to score that high but I later found out that those questions came directly from a test bank. If you're looking for fairness and an opportunity to learn, please take my advice and register with another professor.
The class is hard by itself, but he makes it harder!! He is not organize with the syllabus. The lectures cover 10 % of what is going to be in the exam. So it is definitely a self-studying course. He is a nice person, but he lacks skills to be a professor like time- management and clarity. and
He runs through everything. So you better already know it. He gives reviews but maybe 10-15 are on the tests and the rest you never went over or talked about in class. Some test he gives a curve on just for the class to barely pass. And you never know what your grade is in the class. Do not take!
Please do not take this class... You will fail.... Lectures are irrelevant and even though I read the book I had difficulty...
Worst Proffesor I have ever had. Lectures cover nothing that is on tests. Labs are boring and repeated. Gives 1 paper, which has no rubric(will give F if you do APA format wrong). DO NOT TAKE CLASS. If you want to do good you have to read textbook and commit your life to this class. Tests are extremely difficult, first B recieved out of 60 credits
I think people are being a little harsh her. He needs to plan his lectures, but he's not going to change anytime soon. It took hard work and dedication to make my A. If you haven't taken Biology 1 for science majors, you're practically screwed from that point on. 60% of the class is straight-up Biology review. He's ALWAYS in his office for help.
He really is a great professor! I'm not saying it is going to be an easy class but what do you expect for microbiology to be easy? His lectures are long but interesting and you leave the class with great knowledge and understanding.
avoid taking micro with him. There are more professors to choose from. You probably wont learn much and often confused and distracted with stories. Labs and a paper were unclear with expectations.
Definitely a hard class. He doesn't go along with the syllabus and was very unclear with expectations of the essays and labs. Our quizzes were like mini- tests. If you are dedicated enough to study A LOT you'll make it through.
This class is tough! but doable. Get ready for a lot of self -learning. The best is to be prepare for the lectures and ask as many questions as you can, he is always willing (even eager) to help you. I read the preview reviews and I think it does not reflect him at all. Class is hard, not the professor.
his stories are the highlight of the class. he makes you think so make sure you understand the content. Handouts helped immensely. Use quizlet, be thorough on the Lab reports do well in exams because the final is horrible. My evening class group were the coolest people ever, so I guess the stars aligned just right for me to have a good experience.
I came into his class nervous because of bad reviews, but he is not that bad. He gives a HUGE curve on EVERY test, and gives a review for each. The labs are cool and he is actually kind of funny. 50% of test are questions from the reviews. There is one 8 page essay and he gives 3 homework assignments. Course is tough, not him. don't be afraid
Do not take him of you want to pass! His class is extremely hard. He gives reviews and tells you to study them but thy don't help you. His teaching skills are terrible. His class is long and his lectures are long and do not help!
Dr. Makukutu (acceptable to call him Caleb) is very intelligent and knowledgeable; sometimes his experience will lead to in dept detailed lecture that seems to be off content. You have to read the textbook and have a strong content knowledge to make correlations with his anecdotes. The reviews are sometimes hit or miss to the exam. Good Luck.
Took 12 week summer. He is a very good teacher, but LACKS time management. Do yourself a favor and read ahead. Not necessarily a hard class, but time gets crunched. He is very smart and kind and willing to answer any questions. His tests are very easy, but the paper is graded harshly. An A is manageable if you READ the book. Lots of reading.
I took his class in 90s but even after all this time he is the only teacher who I still remember. If you take the time and listen to him, ask questions you will learn so much! He is a fountain of knowledge and highly intelligent. I still think of his lectures and use the knowledge I gained from him!!
He really struggles with time management. At one point he got behind by 2 weeks and had us doing a ton of lab reports within the last week of class. Prepare to do a lot of self teaching as well because his lectures tend to be more about his microbiology interests and not the curriculum you're intending to learn. Avoid him if you can.
Had to withdrawal from his class because his lectures for 2 hours went in every direction not keeping with the curriculum, didn't go with the book or power point. Each test had 6 chapters on it and there was so study guide, basically avoid his class if you aren't up to completely teach yourself. His tests are very difficult and long
Professor Makukutu has a very comprehensive teaching style. If you do not read, you will not make any connection at all. Do all the work he ask of you to do because it surely helped me. My study group also was very amazing.
Professor Makukutu is brilliant teacher with an amazing amount of knowledge when it comes to microbiology and diseases. Don't miss class or you will miss out on vital learning, lectures and labs. STUDY - READ - WRITE - expect work! He's preparing you for a career! Great Teacher!! Don't listen to negative reviews! He's the best!
When I first got in Dr. Makukutu's class , I was scared from looking at the ratings on this site . Some things the people are saying is true . The 8 page paper is true , the piling lab reports at the end of the semester is true so remember what you did in lab . Leaving this class , I Love this man , he is the best. Just try & he will credit you.
Professor Makukutu is wonderful! He is so genuine and very smart. He always had respect with his students and ALWAYS clarified any questions at any time. The subject is NOT easy so be don't take more than 2 classes if you want to succeed with an A. Get ready to read! If you do so, you should be fine. Labs are fun! I would take him again!
He is the only professor that teaches this class at LSC-KW. I did all of the reviews, studied hard, yet failed each of them. He has us reading articles that only someone with a PHD in Microbiology can comprehend, and then wants a 5-8 page paper on it. Labs are fun. He has major time management issues. SMART. Has trouble "dumbing" it down.
Dr. Makukutu Is very knowledgeable about the subject. He's very genuine and wants you to ask questions and learn to think about the subject - not just memorize facts. Time management is a little lacking, but I really enjoyed the class.
Mr. Makukutu is an awesome instructor! He is a very nice & understanding person. The subject is very complex, labs were fun & class discussions were interesting. He is very knowledgeable about the subject & loves answering questions. I could not have asked for a better instructor & I would definitely take Mr. Makukutu again!!!..
Professor Makukutu is a brilliant man and knows his profession. He is very helpful, you just need to ask. This is college people, it is not going to be easy. I loved this class and I learned a lot. Just study the guides he gives you and you will be fine. I think the class is fair and he does what he can to help you. Do not skip the labs.
Complaints incoming: Makukutu teaches to the lowest common denominator vocal student, which means we spend 45 minutes going over a premicrobio basic concept. He poorly uses a form of Socratic Method, asking uncontextualized questions of definition, with 5 second pauses. He talks extremely slow. I'm screaming in my head "Just get on with it!"
Extremely knowledgeable on the subject. One quiz. The tests are all cumulative. 200 question reviews are given for each test. Tough grader on lab write ups. Summer classes don't have to write a paper. Overall a great professor. The class isn't easy so make sure to keep up with your reading, reviews, and assignments and you'll be fine.
So far this professor is terrible. Due to the flooding of the Kingwood campus this night class was moved to a online course. He offers no feedback for missed questions on the lab and we still don't know what we answered wrong for test 1 & 2, YET his test are comprehensive. The 200 question review is a waste of time.. Doesn't response in a time.
Due to the flooding, this was turned into an online class. He was VERY tough. Wasn't always accessible, or replied too late to emails/phone calls. He is a very bright man and the optional labs I attended, wasn't very clear on his explanations of anything really. Get ready to teach yourself. SO. MUCH. READING.
Prof. Makukutu is a very interesting instructor. He is very knowledgeable on the subject and you can learn a lot from him. However he often goes off on tangents or into too much depth, better for a 400-level or graduate class. He has major time management problems. Engage with the material and discussions in class, take in summer, no paper.
I took this class despite the low ratings because it was the only option, huge regret! This man does not seem to be interested in his students success. Not enough character space to list all areas of disappointment with this professor. Good luck if you are stuck with him!
Caleb Makukutu is a very knowledgeable professor who knows his stuff and wants the best for his student. I wondered why he had so low ratings maybe as a result of his African accent but I bet you won't regret his class. The only thing I don't like about him is that it takes him forever to reply to his emails, But take this man. Good luck.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Ive taken some pretty hard classes but this was beyond that. Ive stressed more in this class than any other class. His lectures are long and off topic. He can not manage his time well he gave us a paper, lab report and laboratory exam due all the same day. He is not worth the stress... good luck to those who do take his class.
This class is not an easy A. You are expected to keep up because he isnt going to baby you. He knows his material and can answer any question that you have. Yes,it is tough, but if you LISTEN and engage him in the lectures he will all but give you the answers to the labs. There are two papers and a written lab every other week for online and hybrid
Not an easy A is an understatement. Nearly an impossible A. I'm not sure what level of work this man is expecting but he clearly has unreasonably high expectations. I understand the material very well and went above and beyond yet barely squeezed out with an 89. Clearly has issues with giving A's on work not 1000% more than the task required.
Don't take this class if you're wanting a successful semester even IF you put in the work. What I mean by that is, this professor will NOT communicate with you outside of class, he will never give you a clear/concise answer when asked about the labs or papers, and he'll never give out a study guide for his tests that corresponds to anything on it.
This class, though needed for my major, was not structured. Tests are difficult. I think Dr. Makukutu needs to have clear expectations on his research papers and his labs write ups. To all future students, do yourself a favor and take another professor. You'll be thankful that you did.
He is a good instructor you won't regret taking his class.
Prof. Makukutu is a great professor, and he knows his subject. If you want to take this class, consider your schedule and if you love your text books. Your will have to spend some time reading your text book and if you do so, its going to be an easy A. One last think all his exams are online and you can take it in your restroom.
There were a ton of lab write ups which he was vague about. This was a hybrid online/in person type of class. I studied super hard and still only made a B
Wonderful professor. He knows the subject a lot and I liked listening to him because he was full of knowledge.
Dr. Caleb Makukutu is dedicated, inspiring and passionate about Micro. He goes in detail and pushes you to think deeper. He makes sure you understand what you have read. His lectures are very informational and help for exams and quizzes. Reading the material is a must! Dr. Caleb gives you the tools to be successful in his class. UTILIZE THEM!
Dr. Caleb is one of my favorite professors. He pushes you and really cares that you understand the information. Read the material and prepare questions before lectures, it will help you prepare for exams and participate in class. The reviews are extremely helpful so STUDY THEM. I have taken him for 3 different classes. Worth every penny!
I took medical microbiology. If your true passion is medicine then youll appreciate what he has to offer. This class isnt easy and youll be responsible for reading ALL the material. He gets off subject during his lectures but I find these little gems enlightening and they spark new passions. Kind, caring but tough grader.
Class is an easy A for me. Yes, you have to study and work to get an A, but its been a better experience than most people have with micro. Only complaint is his 2 term papers, instructions were kind of vague. Term papers were my only Bs in his class.
the only complaint i have he is a very tough grader on the lab reports and doesnt give you your assignments back or individual feedback which could have improved the remaining assignments to be done other than that if your willing to earn your grade and make time you should be fine he is very informative and prepares you to enter the medical field
I have sat back and watched students complain that they werent aware of a deadline when we all have access to the d2l calendar and I never known him to take points off for late work he does grade tough which i respect because many teachers let you breeze through he made many good points during the lectures and always has had a friendly attitude
Gets off topic alot and 2 term papers. We ran behind most of the semester and struggled to play catch up. Pleasant attitude, but hard to keep focus. Must be present for labs!
Decent professor. His tests a SUPER easy. His labs are very difficult though. He is a very tough grader on them and the directions are unclear. Friendly guy. Never answers emails. Lectures are dry and drone on. Always ready to answer any question in class though. Wants you to think in depth and beyond the text. Youll work hard for that A!
Very passionate about microbiology. 5 chapter exams all online on d2l, 1 term paper, and a final. Term paper was 10 pages long apa format and we were given extremely vague instructions on what was expected. A week after the paper was due he spent an hour of class explaining what he wanted from the papers which was very frustrating. ASK QUESTIONS!!
He will tell you- You will work for an A grade but get a B. And he is not joking, I did everything and worked so hard to get an A but I came out with a 89 grade. The lab papers make them short & sweet, they count heavier than exam grades since he grades on a messed up percentage scale. I would take him again- all the exams are done online.
Everyone always raves about how bad he is that when I took him he wasnt bad at all. He lectures a lot but most of us didnt follow lecture. Hes very helpful in labs and wants you to understand it. Makes you do lab reports and I believe 2 papers. All test were online and 2 hour limit. Not bad at all but you need to show up.
He had amazing lectures and you could tell he loved to teach his students new things. We had multiple labs we had to do and even with answering every question I would get 75-85 on all of them which brought my grade down a lot but thankfully I still ended up with an A. All of his tests are online and they are pretty easy. LOTS OF WORK.
lecture tests are online 100 questions each, most of them are timed. Lab tests are taken in class. the lab tests are VERY hard, and he is a VERY TOUGH GRADER. you have to think like he does to get an answer right! lectures are drawn out, and very boring. unless you are already very good at microbiology or can self teach yourself. don't take him.
Dr Makukutu is a great person and scientist. He knows what he's talking about and will inspire you if you enjoy science. Very knowledgeable. However, his class is HARD. He doesnt email back. The tests are weighted very heavily and make sure you turn in your term paper in on time. I had an A up until I forgot a test and turned in my term paper late.
His grading criteria regarding labs reports is extremely unclear. This class is entirely self taught with little help from the professor himself. Taking this class online during the COVID 19 pandemic was one of the worst experiences I have ever had with any class. He does not respond to emails. If possible, avoid this professor at all costs.
Lectures are really long and boring. Most of lectures are him going on a tangent that is unrelated to what we are learning. He also has really liberal views that he basically lectures to students which is completely unprofessional. He says he just wants us to be educated on what is happening in the world but really its his perspective hes pushing
I don't recommend anyone take this professors class. His tests are 120 questions which is absolutely unnecessary, his lectures are extremely long and unhelpful, and he doesn't answer questions. He's a really nice guy, but definitely should not be teaching. Avoid taking any classes with him if possible, unless you like an extreme workload.
Be prepared to teach yourself! He is very unorganized and does not grade things in a timely manner. He pushes his views heavily and talks about subjects that are inappropriate. His lectures are long, boring and hard to follow. Read the textbook and power points! Overall, I would not take him again and would not recommend him to anyone.
This professor was horrible, and I would not recommend taking this class. He did not communicate at all. I doubt he even looked at the curriculum more than a few times in the semester, as he hardly ever lets you know about any assignments. You are teaching yourself if you take this class.
Professor Caleb Makukutu does not inform students when their assignments are due and does not ever have us go to a physical lab as he did not know how to access the lab system. He also spent most of the first half of class trying to sign into his d2l account rather than actually teaching us.
Oof. Had him last semester. His lectures do not cover anything on the test. Tests are purely from the textbook. He just rambles the whole time. He also talks VERY quietly. He is not tech savvy whatsoever. He seems like a nice guy, but not the best professor. Only thing that kept me from skipping were labs, which we had pretty much everyday.
