You do not need the book on his class. cal is very helpful to his students. He likes Sandra Bullock so much. He is one of the best Philo teacher there is
He's such a cute teacher. he looooves Sandra Bullock. haha. He is willing to help you understand something if you don't get it. Quizzes are easy, they're straight from class/text discussion. fun class~ nothing to stress over.
The best teacher I've ever had at LACC. I actually learned so many things from this class. Very helpful teacher. Makes philosophy relatable to your everyday life. Oh yeah, He LOOOVES Sandra Bullock :P .
Cal's a great professor. He is super enthusiastic and energetic which made all the difference in the world. His tests are easy and straight from his lectures. I highly recommend him and oh yes he LOVES Sandra Bullock and Starbucks!
great teacher, loves starbucks and Sandra Bullock. test is based on class luctures and you do not need book
EASY.
Easy class. Lopez is very helpful and explains class very well. Gives answers a session before the exam. Class recommended but sit in the back because he smells bad; wears same cloths for weeks without washing it. Class is an easy A.
his class is the easiest class ever.. all u have to do is go to class everyday and copy all the stuff that he writes on the board and read them b4 d test..
He does not count attendance. You just need to keep track of your quizzes and test.

Has a lot of energy. Easy class.
Easy Class ... His lectures and class discussions are exactly the test.
great teacher. dont really need the book since his exams are taken straight from the lectures. his enthusiasm for philosophy really gets you into the lectures.
Easy class, if you do your work. He rocks, he so funny!!
I loved this Professor one of the easiest here at LACC, you dont need the book and he loves I mean LOVES Sandra Bullock!
He is one of the best teacher at LACC, who really knows the material. Highly recommended, if you wanna learn and get good grade at the same time
His test was super easy... . All most of class got "A"
Mr. lopez is a good teacher; however his class is easy just study the notes in the book and you will be set. take him he is a great teacher
Explains things very clearly and is willing to go over and over material if you're having trouble getting it. Totally spoon feeds you what is going to be on the tests, so they are really easy.
If your planning to transfer, highly recommended to take his class and easy A. Take notes because 100% sure that is coming out on the test, pay attention and he hates students talking during his lecture. He jokes a lot in class and do not be absent his lecture because you will miss a lot of information. He is one of the best professors in LACC.
To pass his class with a good grade, do not miss the class, pay attention, take down notes, and participate in class. Their are 5 major quizes in his class. The first, second and thrid quizes are pretty easy but in the middle of sem, the fourth and fifth quizes are more in writing and kind a hard. However, I nailed one of his hard quizes.
He was pretty kool with me I pass his class and I love philosophy he talks about Sandra Bullock a lot though lol. Just take good notes and come to class and you will end up with an A.
seems easy but you never know when or how he's gonna turn his back on you. gives out essay exams w/o warnings, sometimes does not let students make up exams for no reason, the first exam was all from his lecture, but second one was all from the textbook.
Prof. Lopez is the best at breaking down the subject's concepts into easy to grasp pieces of information. By using very basic examples he is constantly teaching the student exactly what they should know; and are going to be tested on. The lectures and the tests are identical. So, don't miss or sleep in class! Prof. Lopez comes highly recommended !!
this class is the shizzle. this teacher has good energy to teach and grabs your attention by engaging with students by asking philisophical questions :D His lectures and chapters in the textbook are usually on the tests. in other words, hes an awesome teacher and i highly recommend him
fantastic. highly recommended.
this is one of my favorite professers!! he actually makes us understand the material fully be4 he gives a test!! 5 stars!!
very fun class..he's always giving real life examples which r very clear 2 understand the subject..takes good notes! (the only prob is his handwritings!) BUT OVERALL 1 ONE GREAT PROF AT LACC..! A MUST TEACHER 2 TAKE!
Excellent Professor, he is there for you when you need help, very clear on his lectures. very fun with lots of energy. As long as you study for the material, you can get an A
This professor is fun and won't let you be bored. He is clear and easy-going. If you pay attention in the class all you'll need is to read the text once at home. Tests are multiple-choice, all related to the lectures. I think it's an easy A.
HE'S ONE OF THE EASIEST TEACHERS. I DIDN'T THINK HE TREATED HIS STUDENTS EQUALLY. HE DIDNT LET A COUPLE STUDENTS TO MAKE UP AN EXAM FOR NO REASON. SUCKS FOR THEM
he seems to be generous in the beginning, but he tries to lower the class average towards the end of the semester. for example, he unexpectedly gives out in-class essay during the last week, etc. so be cautious and read the book ahead of time always.
He's a wonderful professor. All quizzes were multiple choice. He does NOT assign any hw and there was no in class essay. He's full of energy and fun. I recommend him!
Cal is wonderful! He does not assign any assignment. It's only lectures, midterm, and final. Easy!
REcommended! Very kind, helpful. Take him, you will not regret it! I took both Phil 1 and Phil 6 with him...learned a lot!
I am currently taking his Phil 6 summer class. He goes over everything that will be on the test. great class, easy to pass if you attend class and pay attention!
great professor! I took him for summer 09 and learned a lot!!
Great Proff, extremely interesting class. I didn't know anything about philosophy before taking this class but after attending 1 session I was really looking forward 2 it. He gives u very organized notes on board and if u follow his hints & study u'll get A and enjoy the class and learn 2. Read the parts of the book that he teach each session.
Extremely fun teacher. Bit of a goofball, but he makes the subject matter more interesting by constantly making examples with Sandra Bullock in them.
Easy class. He has a list of exactly which stuff will turn up on the quizzes. Will teach to the level of the class. Sometimes he mumbles though and doesn't finish sentences so can be incomprehensible.
Super easy class. There are 5 quizzes that he gives the questions and answers to weeks before, so all are easy A's. You learn a lot that you can apply to all other classes, and he makes it fun because he tells a lot of jokes. Definately recommended.
I took Prof. Lopez for philosophy of art. He is smart, down to earth, helpful, and funny. He gives the question and answer for each quiz(essay form) beforehand. The only bad side is that he talks fast and jumps from thought to thought as if his thoughts are proccesing at a super high speed. Maybe it's cuz he's always drinking coke.
He is an easy going prof. He always lets students leave early. Tests are definitely easy if you study. He gives us handouts and lets us know what it will be on the quiz. No homework! One thing I don't like is his handwriting is super difficult to read. You may need to ask him to read for you lol. All over all HE IS GREAT!
He's a lot of fun. Kind of quirky, but easy enough to follow. I learned a lot in this class, and I was quite entertained as well.
Everyone will enjoy taking this class. He gives you an idea of what to expect on a quiz. Take notes because there you?ll find answers for the quiz. His class is fun and educating. I highly recommend Prof. Lopez, you will enjoy his lectures.
Pro Lopez keeps his lectures stimulating and relevant. Interaction is key to absorbing the info. He is extremely high energy and humorous.
cal lopez is adorable! he's super neurotic and it's just too cute. make sure to take class notes and read the book. grade based soley on tests, but i highly recommend this professor. hawtness points for being a cute philosophy nerd. :)
Cal is a a great professor. As long as you attend class everyday and show respect by not slamming the door, talking or whispering during class; He will show respect to you.He will give you all the info needed in the palm of your hand just don't take advantage.
Cal is the BEST philosophy professor.
Great, almost perfect. should give little extra credit for being active on class.
if you take a great note in his class, you will get A. He is really helpful when you ask questions. His handwriting is bad but his class is interesting
“STOP! YOUR OVERTHINKING!” “CLAIM STATEMENT/TRUE OR FALSE THAT EXPRESSES AN OPINION OR BELIEF” I SUSPECT HE MOCKED A TRIVIUM SHIRT. ALL IN ALL, WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU CHEAT IN Lopez’s class. I RESPECT HE Does this EVERY SEMESTER @ LACC! No homework no extra credit but common the class is challenging enough ;) Don’t SLAM THE DOOR! Laziness.
Super boring class! I took Philosophy 1 Fall 2012 at LACC and earned an A. The professor talks really fast and gives me a headache but he's really a sweetheart & wants everyone to pass. He literally gives us the exact essay questions he gives on his quizzes beforehand. I didn't even buy the book, I just took good notes from lectures and got A's.
Loved this class. Prof. Lopez keeps it fun and challenging.
Stumbles on his words a lot. Sometimes hard to understand. You can tell hes a good guy with the intention of passing everyone. If you cant keep up with the reading, YOU WILL FALL VERY BEHIND. Taking notes are useless in his class. Philosophy can be very confusing and hard. Cal does an OKAY job at handling this. No papers to write, thank god.
Professor Lopez is one of the professors who is just great. His lecture is always interesting and enlightening. One thing he really tries to do is help you think critically. His class is straight forward just attend, listen to his lecture, and take the exams. His exams are easy if attend class because it is based on his lectures.
Prof Lopez is a tour de force. Aesthetics is a mind bender subject and his lectures make it almost painless. Sure, thinking hurts, but having inspirational teachers expands and elevates our dreary existence. See things for what they really are. Learn from the masters of the universe and in turn go do good things.
easy class, nice teacher, but.. guy is hard to understand, he lives in his head. His hand writing is also hard to read.
he is very funny. Do not walk in front of him, he finds it disrespectful. If you missed your class then try and study at home. It is a must. You can learn a lot from him, and take down his notes- they will help in his exams. He gives you a study guide and answers the questions on them. The questions are the same ones on the quiz! So Pay attention!
I took Cal's class a couple years ago and have since graduated from a university. His Philosophy of Art class was so interesting, challenging, and comprehensive that I felt well-grounded enough to continue my studies at Antioch, and gained a minor there in Fine Arts.
NOT A GOOD TEACHER HE NEEDS HELP YOULL WHY WHEN YOU ENTER HIS CLASS
I'm not gonna say this is the best teacher of this subject, he's the only one I've taken. He was a pretty good teacher and funny at times. Stay under the radar. There was this girl who was very outspoken and he was rude to her. She passed with an A but he didn't like hearing her speak so he always interrupted her. Disorganized but cool. I'd retake.
Great professor, he's cool. Great class. Made me love philosophy. Lots of tests, but no homework. Pretty easy.
I took him for a 5 week Summer course and it's the best time to take him! There is 5 quizzes and a final but HE GIVES YOU VERY CLEAR CUT STUDY GUIDES. He goes over the study guide with you the day before a quiz. Literally, all you have to do it memorize the study guide and you'll pass the quiz. Pass the quizzes and then you pass his class. Easy A
Professor Lopez is great! I loved the class. One of my favorites so far. He is a fun guy and super interesting. Keeps a humble environment unless you talk!! Respect to him. Everyone take him!
Took him during the Summer. Good professor, although he may have his moody days lol. Provides study guides which are very helpful.
Easy class as long as you attend the class regularly and take good notes. He literally gives you the questions that gonna be on the test. Though, he tries to talk super fast so it's hard to understand sometimes. He really gets annoyed when students walk in front of him or talk when he's talking... Overall, super easy going class. Take it!
Interesting class. Requires that you are in class-- questions come from lecture. Questions he gives will later appear on tests. Very helpful professor if you go to see him. Hard to read his handwriting.
What an amazing teacher! Seriously! Take his class! He made Philosophy very interesting!
He's a very knowledgeable professor! Hilarious too! 5 tests + final exam. The test questions were easy as long as you pay attention & jot down all his lecture notes. I passed the course without purchasing the book. Took this course in Winter + Statistics class on the side + work on the weekends. Got A for both. Now, do yourself a favor... Take him!
Get's too emotional when he is lecturing but it's a way to get you emotionally invested in what he is trying to teach. He has jokes that are worth laughing and he makes a lot of eye contact. We all respect him because respects every student no matter how dumb or silly the student asks. Took him for Summer 2016 with three exams and 1 extra credit.
Mr. Lopez really cares and is interested in his subject which is a great way to approach philosophy. He keeps it interesting with high energy lectures and a good sense of humor. My only criticisms would be that his lectures could also be scattered at times but if you're reading the text along you'll do just fine. Solid choice.
I took Professor Cal for PHIL 1 during winter break and he was so good at explaining the material i actually enjoyed taking philosophy. Make sure you show up to class bc his lecture is what he tests you on. So take good notes!. You don't necessarily need the book but it is good to have just to read over the material that he goes over in class.
One of the best professors I've ever had!! His class is an easy A as long as you take his notes, but it's also insightful! His handwriting is messy, but just ask him what it says & he'll be happy to tell! Record his study guides before a test, all the questions he goes over show up in the tests. Caring, wants all his students to pass. Hilarious too
Cal is an awesome teacher who gives the "Reader's Digest" version of Philosophy 1. He covers many topics. The class is interested because of him and he is very generous with test preparatory work and gives homework guides. You will understand Philosophy as he makes it very relevant.
my fav prof! Come to class, take notes, pass the tests & ur good to go. He gives all the questions & answers to every test, so u can't fail unless ur not paying attention. I had a B bc i missed a test, & he used the grade i got on my finals on the test i missed & i got an A. will do anything to make his students pass! loves sandra bullock lol
I love this professor ! The way he teaches is amazing . He gives you examples of exactly what he wants on his quizzes . His teaching method is so easy to understand. There is no way someone can fail this class. Best professor !!!!
HE'S THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!
Probably my favorite professor this semester. He made philosophy enjoyable. He presented every topic from an unbiased point of view. Makes lecture entertaining. I feel like I learned a lot. He's a sweet man. Very caring/ TAKE HIM
My favorite professor of all time. Wish he taught Philosophy 5. His lecture are amazing and he gets invested, which makes you get invested. Always kind and respectful of students and he's hilarious. He's as easy as it can get, there's no way you can't pass this class with an A or at least B.
Professor CAL is the cutest. He's can be funny sometimes, but sometimes you do not know what he is talking about. There are about 4 exams and a final. He literally goes over the exam, he goes over the study guide and all the answers are there. He talks a lot after all. He does not like when you speak when he is speaking. But an easy A if you study
If you like Philosophy take it. If dont, you can be pretty sure that you will enjoy it. Read your textbook, take notes and go over study the quizzes to study for midterm and final. You will have to read a lot, but it will pay its dividends. I Strongly recommend this class whether you like Philosophy or not
The professor is easygoing and has a tendency to get a bit lost in his lectures. That aside, the class grade revolves solely on tests taken throughout the semester, which are about 4-5 tests, including the midterm and a final. Professor will verbally provide questions that will be on the tests day before test. Show up, take notes, and you'll pass.
He talks very passionately about philosophy and can get carried away and mention more about a topic than needed. With that said, DON'T take notes on what he says, DO take notes of everything he writes on the board. Philosophy will make you confused all over the place on its own so he does a pretty good job at separating things by sections.
Prof. Cal is literally the best, he's passionate and he's gr8 at what he does. The class in of itself was the highlight of my semester and I'm not even that interested in Phil but he peaked my interest. His lectures are very insightful and there's no need to read the textbook is you listen closely. The exams/finals are real simple he always reviews
If you go to class & ask to leave early he'll mark you present. Easy tests, practically verbatim to his quizzes. Specifies if something will be on the test/quiz, & for the short answer he gives you one question beforehand. Fast paced & kinda wacky but very knowledgable. Picks on ppl sometimes but isn't mean. NO MAKEUPS. I got a B bc I missed a quiz
I think he has good personality but i don't like his teaching style. he is not easy and his notes somewhat helpful. I rather take another professor.
Great professor! This class is an Easy A as long as you show up and take notes. I never read the textbook and based all my studying off my notes and I passed with an A. He's also hilarious!! His lectures can be a bit boring sometimes but overall this class was enjoyable and not too hard. His tests aren't too hard either. I highly recommend!
If youre a human cognizant of the world around you, his class will make sense when he gives his lectures and he does a great job at keeping you entertained during his lectures. Hes literally in love with Sandra Bollock and his anecdotes are a trip. SHOW UP TO CLASS AND TAKE ALL THE NOTES IN A WAY THAT MAKE SENSE TO YOU. He doesnt do makeup test.
Professor Lopez is one of the best professors I have had. He is funny, engaging, and the material is straight-forward. Just pay attention in class and study what he tells you to study and you'll be fine. Even though I am not a philosophy major, Professor Lopez has sparked a real interest in the topic for me.
Prof. Lopez led us on a profoundly impactful journey into the nature of aesthetics, ontology, intention, interpretation and meaning itself, all in regards to art and art theory. The textbook was a fascinating read and the classes inspired real philosophical discussions on the nature of why we believe the things we believe. recommended!
Philos of Art was the best class all because of him. You don't want to miss out on this class.
Prof. Lopez made me love philosophy and im considering double majoring now. I was thrown off the first day of class b/c hes a bit old school like talking without raising ur arm, i appreciate it now b/c everyone would go off on their beliefs otherwise. Hes VERY clear on grading and gives back tests fast. Hes funny & engaging w/ lectures.
Attendance isn't mandatory but if you want an A, GO TO CLASS & GET TO CLASS ON TIME. He literally tells you the answer to all his test questions and even if you're 5 mins late to class, you can miss crucial points. I honestly hate philosophy but maybe because I took the course with Prof lopez, the course was bearable :-)
Professor Lopez is awesome. I had him for Philosophy 100 in Fall 2019. He teaches well and prepares you for the tests. He makes a complex subject easy to understand. You still have to study though for an A! I highly recommend him 5/5. Also, he has some jittery quirks, which make him funny to watch!
Fun guy to learn from, just make sure to follow his rules. Class is just a couple tests which he usually gives the answers to so just make sure to take notes. No matter your feelings about philosophy you'll love his class.
Great teacher. He goes over Everything and explains what you need to know. If you dont understand something, he is happy to expand. Has great humor and loves to make jokes. If you pay attention and take notes, you will get an A. Makes philosophy interesting and his class has a great student atmosphere. Reachable outside class. Highly Reccomended !
This class was in person at first but we moved online. He is a great professor. Show up to his classes because what he talks about is all on the test. He makes things easier. You do need a textbook for this class, which i did not purchase, everything he taught was in lecture. if you want an A then yes get the book
Not a difficult class. He wants his students to do well, and gives you the tools you need to succeed. You don't really need the textbook so save your money. Attendance is mandatory. He structures his course with a few quizzes, a midterm, and a final.
He is a very approachable professor. Funny, witty, entertaining yet can be stern when suited. He is fair and will call on you to answer his questions, so best understand the criteria beforehand, and if not, he is really generous and will help guide you through the subject. His quizzes are heavily based on his lectures so take a lot of notes!
I LOVE Cal (yes, he lets you call him by his first name). He has a great sense of humor and his lectures are very entertaining. If you show up to class, you can pass all the tests guaranteed. You can also just read the textbook, but it is so much fun to go to class and interact with Cal. Best professor at LACC by a MILE!
Lopez rocks! He's so motivated to teach what he loves, you get that sense by the first class. Bi-weekly Zoom meetings, he checks for attendance, so you can't blow class off. Two weeks to go over a chapter, test after each chapter. TAKE NOTES! They are verbatim on his tests, there's no excuse for you to not pass with an A. Long lectures, easy class
Cal is very funny! Never a boring class. He does call on people. This scared me since I am shy but it wasn't bad at all. All the answers to his tests are said during lectures so take notes.
This professor is very rude. He talks a lot and gives the students very little time to be able to talk. He very rudely cuts the student off after asking them a question all the time. He does not have the patience to listen to students' responses.
This professor to be honest is just weird. We stay on topic which is fine but every now and then he brings up his ex. He won't respond to emails but you may call him which I don't know why that's an option over email. All notes are during class time so you have to take notes for his quizzes/tests.
Prof Cal is blessed with an average if not above average intellect. I heard from my priest that Callisto is a Catholic priest. Wow! I liked his lectures but knowing his true identity I wish now that I had asked for extreme unction, since I'm not confident LACC will give me the skills to survive in this world
fun class! basically he teaches his tests, so just bounce back his language from lectures and Voila! you'll get an A! critical thinking isn't his forte (why didn't he finish his ph D? ) but he sure is suavecito!
Prof. Cal is the dope! He's blessed with an average if not above average intellect, so don't worry... just repeat back to him everything he says in lecture and you'll do fine. I got an A without having to open a book!
Professor Cal brings lots of humor and personality to the class. Attendance is a must, but the tests are straight from the lectures. Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for taking notes and reviewing for the exams.
