Mr. Bentley is the most passionate teacher I have ever had. He keeps the class entertained and even includes pop culture slides in his lecture if it is somehow related to the subject. Professor Bentley is one of the best teachers I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and taking. I have taken him for both semesters of Geology, and if were to continue in this subject, I would take him again. He is very enthusiastic about what he teaches, and is extremely patient for those who may not understand the subject.

Good stuff: easy to understand, multiple choice tests, good lectures. Bad stuff: somewhat difficult labs, pop quizzes--well, unless you are interested in science and want a challenge. Other stuff to add: best science teacher I've had in awhile, plus he is actually interested in the subject. If you are easily offended by teachers bringing up the nebular theory and all that junk, you might not want to take the class because it is brought up A LOT.

Mr. Bently is one of my favorite professers. His work is pretty easy and he's always there to help you. Great professor!!!!!

Geology geology, I have a love and hate relationship with geology. I love the subject, you get to learn so many cool things about this amazing planet. The bad is its too much info. Mr. Bently is a good man, he grades generously and helps you out A LOT. Make sure you take HIS notes and try to attend every class. Do what he tells u and yo'll be fine

Professor Bentley is the best teacher to take in this subject. He is very fair, and has great enthusiam for what he teaches. He is very well read and easy to talk to. If you need his help, he is always very willing to make time for you. If you're thinking about taking Geology, Professor Bentley is the best teacher to take.

Bentley is hands down my favorite professor ever. He really knows what he's talking about. He doesn't just teach from the book or notes, he takes from his own experiences and enlightens you. He's really easy to talk to as well, and he's flexible compared to a lot of teachers. The GOL106 field trip we went on was amazing as well. TAKE HIM!!

Excellent instructor, very enthusiastic. The class was not easy, esp. the Labs, but if you put extra effort in, you can get an A. The field trip was fun. The only thing I didn't like is that he gets on his "soapbox" too much re: "Global Warming" and against "Creationism". He should let science speak for itself, and faith speak for itself.

Bentley is hands down the AWESOMEST teacher at Nova! He is extremely helpful, funny, and really enthusiastic about geology, which totally helps learning about it. He is really easy to talk to if you're having problems, but you have to work to get that "A". Study your notes and read ahead and be prepared to think in his class. Highly recommend!

Took this class instead of any other science class. Great professor! So much enthusiasm and passion, it's hard NOT to get into the material. One of the best professors at NOVA. Labs are pretty easy same with tests. If only all teachers were into the classes they teach like he is, school would be a lot better.

Ive never had an interest in any type of Science, and I only took the class for my degree, but im glad I did! Mr Bentley is far the best teacher Ive ever had and was always available 24/7 to answer any questions. Definitely, without question, the best teacher I have EVER had. Energetic and very fun teacher that is very helpful and makes Geology extremely interesting. PowerPoint presentations are all available online just need to print it out and take notes. Tests and quizzes are no problem but you DEFINITLY need to study. Highly recommended!Great teacher!

Professor Bently was definately the best professor I had. He was awesome in his lectures and he is extremely helpful. Take him if you are actually interested in geology, you are required to do work but if you pay attention you should pass his class without a doubt.

Callan is very passionate about the subject he teaches. His lectures are actually interesting and labs were quite nice (i had nice partners). I did horrible on first 2 big exams (60%'s) and I did well on the final so I ended up with a B when I was expecting a low C. DIFINITELY pay attention to "study guides" and quizzes. some can be test questions.

Mr. Bentley is a very good teacher. He teaches with passion and LOVES geology. He is helpful. His lectures are easy to understand. His tests are easy. The quizzes were harder than tests. Lab tests were ok. He makes sure you understand geology and will make you like it even more. I highly recommend anyone take him if they have the opportunity.

The man definitely knows what he's talking about and I admire that. Just go to class, take notes, do your labs and study for the quizzes and tests. You'll end up doing great. I highly recommend him over the other Geology teachers.

Callan is a really great teacher. He is always available for extra help, in fact he gets irritated if no one uses his office hours. The class isn't cake though, you will need to study hard. If you are motivated you will get an A no problem. Great class!

Environmental Geology is a great 2nd year class for anyone interested in geology and/or the environment. The class does require you to do the work, but if you do you will get a good grade. I would definitely take this prof again because he was knowledgeable and I learned a lot.

AWESOME. His lectures are fun and interesting and his use of hilarious analogies keeps the class intrigued in the material. He also teaches through example which I found extremely helpful, like when he shows the class geologic formations in different countries or compares geologic landmarks to Led Zeppelin music videos. Professor Bentley is a great Geology teacher. I took the class twice and taking it with him gave me a greater understanding of the class than I could have received from the teacher i took it with the first time. He really loves geology and does an excellant job at teaching it

GREAT PROFESSOR. I took him for environmental geology (225) this past spring semester. I also had taken him for physical geology (105) the semester before that. I think he is VERY well-qualified and knowledgeable in his field. I?m not a science major and had no special interest in taking a geology class but I actually enjoyed a lot of the course. H

I cringed at the thought of taking a science because I have always been so horrible at it. At the end of this semester I actually considered being a Geologist for a little because of this class. He was easily one of the best teachers ever. I ended the semester with an A. He is extremely helpful and the class is so ubelievably interesting.

Good teacher but sometimes when a student asked a question and he thought it was an obvious answer; he can be a bit of a smart ass. It's whatever though. If you do not mind the hard work, he's good. He helps you. He does crack a few jokes. Some chicks think he is hot. There is a required field trip/hike for his class. Tone those muscles. No Joke!

Gives you everything you need to earn an A, but you have to choose to use it. Study hard to do well! Knowledgeable, passionate, truly wants you to learn. Can be arrogant and standoffish, but hilarious when he unleashes the snark in class. When he's nice, he's very nice. Goes WAY above and beyond for his students. Sneaks funny stuff into tests. HOT.

HARD! He is a pretty tough teacher You wont get an A unless you truly understand the class. He is extremely knowledgeable & very interested in what he does. Class consists of 2 midterms, 2 lab practicals, essay, 4 online quizzzes & a final. Everything is outlined on the syllabus. The Billy Goat trail is tough-but not impossible.Oh & he's pretty hot

He is a great teacher, but his test and quizzes are hard. You need to be sure you are on top of what he covers in lecture. This is not an easy A, but if you want it you're going to have to work hard for it. A good teacher, but a hard teacher if that makes sense.

Simply put, he knows exactly what he's teaching, and he loves what he does. Thus expecting you to give him respect and the want to learn what he's teaching. Not an easy A in the least bit. The work you put in, will be exactly what you get back. If you're not a Geology major I would consider another teacher.

This class is a very fun class. Callan is a great professor who provides awesome knowledge with some laughs. Attendance is not mandatory but if you miss the lectures it is only going to hurt you. If you pay attention and study there is no way you can fail this class.

Mr.Bently's a great guy with the passion of the subject for Geology. His quizzes are pretty straightforward, all powerpoints are posted and tests are based on everything in lectures. I would recommend a video tap recorder. Make sure you come to class and STUDY! Because if you don't show up, it's going to hurt you.

Great teacher that really loves what he does. The lectures are very informative and will greatly help your grade and understanding of geology. The questions on his quizzes and exams are all based off info from his lectures. All he expects of you is to put forth some effort to learn what he is teaching. Part way through Spring 2014 Semester Professor Bentley emailed the class and said he has not seen much posted to RMP recently. There is a reason, this guy is that good! It's not an easy class, but if you want to learn Geology take him. Awesome lectures, great field trips, fun labs. You will learn!

He's very passionate about Geology and emphasizes effort in class. I'm not a Geology major and I just needed GOL 106 because I needed one more Natural Science. It's hard but if you go to class and read the powerpoints, take notes, read chapter summary, and do all the labs (relatively easy), you should be fine.

I had Professor Bentley for the 2016 fall semester, and I must say he was more then helpful! I'm not a big fan of any type of science and I did tell him that in the beginning of the semester, so he gave me a few pointers on how I could pass the class. Overall he was very helpful and I would recommend taking him!

Professor Bentley was extremely helpful and understanding. I once confused two weeks worth of work with each other - I completed the wrong work for a specific week - yet he gave me ample time to submit the correct work with no grading consequences.

Prof. Bentley is extremely quick in regards to getting back to students when they have questions. He grades your assignments very quickly so that you can see where you are throughout the course. He is very fair when it comes to grading and he gives you great feedback on your assignments. I would recommend taking one of his classes!

Taking this class in 8 weeks is intense. Best to take it, and it alone: there are A LOT of reading assignments and an equal amount of lab work but the platform he chose is excellent. This class is intense. If you are working full time and have a family - you should not take the 8 week class. The class requires a lot of reading and lab work. He is also a tough grader. I haven't finished the class but I do not want my grade to impact my current thoughts. He is exceptionally fair with grading, life events, and school closures. I would encourage studying regularly. He's not difficult but he is extremely fair both with grading and opportunities to adjust grades.

He is a great professor. I would say that if you're not interested in geology it may not be the best course for you. He is always responsive and if you put in the effort he will always try his best to help you understand the material. The tests are sort of hard if I'm being honest, but he really made me love geology!

As a person he is honestly amazing. No homework, just weekly quizzes which are 5-10 questions. Labs are time consuming but easy A's. This class is only best if you're interested in Geology. The only con is the tests- THEY ARE SUPER HARD SO PLEASE STUDY! I wish this teacher made study guides for us but it's on your own to take the time and study .

Prof. Bentley is amazing. He makes geological concepts so easy to understand in lecture. Often time compares geology to cookie baking. I don't think there's a lecture I haven't laughed in. No homework, once a week quizes (only 10 questions). 2 exams (midterm and end of semester) plus a final exam. Labs are engaging and reasonably challenging. 10/10

I really enjoyed this class. Blackboard is well-organized & he posts weekly update videos online. If you: don't care, refuse to buy textbook/access code, expect to be coddled, or want an easy A, pick a different class. If you: want to learn, participate, be rewarded for hard work, have fun w/ a passionate prof. PICK HIM!!! I highly recommend! :D

He is an enthusiastic, organized genius who is passionate about the earth. An abundant amount of useful information is taught in his class. BUT do not take this class if you know deep in your core, that you are lazy. This is a VERY challenging class. No study guide, 2 mid terms, 3 lab exams, & a paper. I've never studied so hard in my life.

Professor Bentley is a very intelligent person who loves the subject he teaches and I can truly say I learned A LOT by taking his course. But this course was one of the hardest classes I've taken. This class was more workload than my other three courses combined, SO. MUCH. STUDYING.

Professor Bentley is kind and if you need help he is always willing! Lab and lecture combined! A lot of reading, but don't need the physical textbook, just the code that comes w/ an online textbook. Two group projects, but not hard! Took this as a 16 wk course, good enough time to get everything done by the end of the week! Awesome professor!
