She may look young, but she is definitely VERY knowledgeable about her subject (and about many things)! I would get confused and lost at various times in Bio II Lab, and she was always happy to help when needed. As long as you do some studying, take whatever notes she advises, and attend class, you should make a firm A in her class!Awesome prof! :)
She has a good heart and tries...but good gosh, she sucks. A group of us would study for hours for her texts and still get C's on them, she'd ask very picky, weird questions on the tests, and is a very strict and difficult teacher. Avoid her. It was supposed to be an easy A, and she made it one of the most difficult and annoying classes for me.
Great teacher. She really knows her subject and does a good job of explaining it. Her power points give excellent notes and they go right along with the book. Her tests are all multiple choice. If you pay attention, read the text and study your notes you can easily get an A.
She isn't the best at explaining her lectures, but if you take all of the notes and study them the tests are easy. Attendance is optional, but I would recommend going. She doesn't really refer to the book much, but the book is really helpful as a supplement to the lectures. Quizzes are straight from the notes.
I took this class Fall 2011. She seems pretty nice, and her class was very easy. Go to class and take good notes. (She does power points so basically print them off or copy them in class). Made me more interested in Environmental Science. If you want an easy grade and are willing to put in a little work, this is the class to take.
She is a great professor. Really enthusiastic when lecturing. I like her a lot. She has a cool personality. I definitely hope to take more of her classes. She gives extra points for attendance!
She is a fantastic lecturer and instructor. Her personality sucks, though. Responds to emails at about a 50% rate, and harps on addressing her properly when doing so. Her ego is a bit obnoxious, especially for someone without a Ph.D. Tests are HARD.
She does what she says. 99% of the material from her tests are straight from her notes. Her tests are all multiple choice, and her essays only have to be 2-3 sentences. Just be ready to have your exams cut 20 minutes short. Which is a little aggravating. Still highly recommend.
She was tough, dog eat dog kind of teacher. You can't skim by if you want a high grade & reading notes isn't enough. Tests require one knowing the book. Her quizzes are purposefully tricky. However she does love what she teaches.
I did not care for her. Random quizzes that are not simple. Her test are hard. If you like to study all day, this is for you. Fast past teacher. She is rude. She think she is funny and she isn't. I wouldn't buy the book.
She uses powerpoints every class and she will give random quizzes over the topics covered in previous classes. The quizzes aren't hard at all. She also gives you an extra quiz to help balance out your grade. Her tests are straight from the lectures which she posts online. She suggests homework but never grades it. This professor rocks!
Professor Montgomery is so extremely clear in her lectures. There is one pop quiz each week but don't worry about them because they are pretty straight forward. The tests are DIRECTLY from the PowerPoint notes and she posts the PowerPoint’s on BB. I'm not a science person at all but I'm so glad I took this class!!
She is by far the hardest biology instructor. I took this course last semester and was forced to retake it due to failing the lab. Her exams are almost like she is testing you on Bio 2. She's some what of a nice teacher. However, she is not very understanding and has a heart of ice. I recommend taking Cradock or McDearman.
I loved this professor! She is very straightforward, and expectations are very clear. Tests come straight from notes and textbook problems. Final is just questions from previous tests. She offers so many ways to improve your grade. She may have a lot of info in her notes, but it makes you learn so much that will help in later Bio classes. TAKE HER!
I loved Professor Montgomery's class! She clearly loves her subject! She does not give study guides, but her quizzes come straight from the Powerpoints or recommended homework as well as her tests. She tells you the essay subjects ahead of time. I hardly studied and came out with an 89.
She is a nice person but a very hard prof. She did not do study guides which made studying for test hard. Had a quiz once a week. I wouldn't recommend taking this woman unless you love biology or a straight A student
She was a great professor. Bottom line, you have to study. However, she really goes above and beyond to try and help you. All you have to do is ask.
She doesnt give extra credit or study guides. Must attend every class. Loads of material for each test to study. Cares too much about environmental science and gets offended if dont share the same views. Test are confusing. Do not buy text book we never used it and it contains the same information as the slides.
If you want to study all the time take this class! Tests are hard! Random quizzes! Never used the book!
Have to retake this class. Tested on a lot of information at one time, and tests are difficult. Lectures are extremely boring, she reads straight from the powerpoints which are posted on Blackboard anyways. Buy the iClicker, not the textbook.
She's a great teacher! I really enjoyed this class. If you pay attention, she tells you everything you need to know for exams and makes everything very clear
Even though she teaches well off of powerpoints, her exams are still hard and she has weekly quizzes that are not simple. She does not give out study guides and there is only 1 extra credit opportunity. She does not round lab or lecture grades and will not discuss about grades. I would not recommend her
Go to class! She mostly reads straight off the slide, but adds a few notes that will be on the tests or quizzes. Random in-class quizzes every week. Tests cover 4-5 chapters. Will let you skip the final if you like your grade at that point. She is really passionate about biology. Don’t buy the book, it’s expensive and I didn't even open it once.
Montgomery was great! I am awful at science but ended up making a high A and enjoying the class! Her lectures are interesting and she posts the power points online. You have to go to class and pay attention. The tests are all multiple choice with three short answer questions and if you like your grade prior to the final you don't have to take it.
I only took this class because I needed a science with lab and initially had no interest in the subject. She is very passionate about what she teaches which made the class more enjoyable. The class wasn't easy but if you go to class and apply yourself you'll do fine. Tests are all MC, 3 writing assignments, a handful of quizzes. I'd take her again.
She is a horrible teacher. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. If you want to study 24/7 then go ahead. Exams are about NOTHING covered in class. Random quizzes. NO STUDY GUIDES OR EXTRA CREDIT. And reading notes to study don't even try.
Professor Montgomery is a very good professor. She knows the stuff she is teaching. Also, she is very funny at times which makes the class more entertaining. It might be boring listening to her lecture whole class but you really need to pay attention if you want to do well on quizzes and exams. Her class is only hard if you don't study
Honestly, she's probably one of the best professors I've had. Her lectures are easy to understand and she's always willing to help. You have to pay attention and somewhat study to make an A, but it wasn't difficult.
She is very passionate and excited about biology, which helps to make the class a little more enjoyable. She gives random quizzes and the exams are not easy to prepare for, as they cover much not taught in lecture and there is no sort of study guide. Take her if you really like biology.
I loved prof. Montgomery! She is a great teacher. Her class was really easy as long as you printed the PowerPoints and went to class. Her tests are pretty easy as long as you study the PowerPoints (they are legitimately exactly what's in the notes). I would definitely recommend taking her.
The lectures are very boring but listening to the lectures will help you more with the quizzes rather than the test. YOU DO NOT NEED THE BOOK. Just look at the powerpoints for her tests and you will be golden. She was an easy A class for me and I would take her again if I could.
Started out wanting to be a Dr. but this class changed that quickly. Tested on a lot of information at one time, and tests are difficult. Lectures are extremely boring, she reads straight from the powerpoints which are posted on Blackboard anyways. Buy the iClicker, not the textbook.
Tough class - wanted to be a Dr. before this class and this made it not possible. Hard tests; hard grader; Hard to understand. Wouldn't take this teacher again. IF you want to study every waking minute take this class.
I absolutely loved Prof. Montgomery! She is very passionate and knows her stuff! She keeps us excited and is willing to explain anything you don't understand. As long as you take good notes, getting an A shouldn't be hard. The testsquizzes basically come straight from the notes. She gives pop quizzes weekly so I would recommend going to class.
While she didn't take roll because it was a large lecture hall, you have to be there for all the pop quizzes. Five-question quizzes once a week over a chapter or so. No study guide, and the tests are a mix of multiple choice, short answer, and essay. She can seem kind of arrogant at times. She also gives hints and extra notes in lectures not online
I don't know why she's rated so low here, she was a great prof. She has helpful, funny, and not too hard. She gives out a lot of extra credit if you come to all the classes and stick around for the whole class I ended up with more than 100% in the class because of all the extra credit. Definitely recommended.
As long as you show up for class and pay attention then you'll do fine. she teaches straight from the powerpoints but if you aren't then for class you miss some extra stuff she says that is on the test. Pretty easy class. fairly easy test, all multiple choice. 3 little writing assignments. I'd take her again
She is an amazing Biology professor, and she knows what she is teaching. Ask questions in class, and she is willing to answer. She has five-quesion quizzes just about every Thursday over what you learned on Tuesday. I would definitely take her if Biology isn't your best subject. The Final is optional, and there are three Exams throughout the course
Took her freshman year and loved her. She gives you slides to print off and write on during her lecture. The book is not essential at all, just study the slides and listen to what she says in class. She gave a pop quiz once a week, but they weren't too bad. Would absolutely advise anyone to take her, she's awesome.
Great professor! We had pop quizzes from the iclicker every week so make sure you study before class! I actually liked these quizzes for the extra grades. The exams were not to bad. Also printing out the powerpoint is really helpful! The problems she assigns from book WILL show up on the exams.
Dr. Montgomery is an AMAZING professor. Her lectures last the whole class period, but she knows what she's talking about and you can tell she's very passionate about the environment. The tests are a little tough, but if you study for an hour or two you should get an A. She is an amazing professor.
The tests come straight from her lecture, which the powerpoint for is online. I did have to start studying a lot for the tests because she asks a lot of specifics. It's pretty hard for a gen ed. biology class, but I feel like part of that isn't her fault. She does her best to make class engaging and gives extra credit at the end of the semester.
When the semester first started I was a little scared and worried to go to class. I thought this was going to be one of the worst classes and that she would be a horrible teacher. She turned out to be a great teacher. I wish I had her for Bio II. She is tough and will come up to you if she thinks you are goofing off in class. Go to class.
Lectures are powerpoints that are also online, so if you skip class (wouldn't recommend) its not the end of the world. NO BOOK but there is a "pop quiz" every week. It is usually given on Wednesday, but if a lot of people start to skip or if a lot of people leave early, she will give one (sometimes for bonus credit). Tests are super easy.
Dr. Montgomery was a really great professor. I really enjoyed going to her class. She had random quizzes once a week so it is advised that you go to class everyday. Her test aren't that bad but you do need to study. Also she is very helpful if you go to her office hours. She also gives up to 10 extra credit points at the end of the semester.
Montgomery is definitely the best biology professor I have ever had. Her lectures are extremely clear, and she really cares about helping her students out. I would definitely recommend taking any of her courses!
Great teacher!
She is a great overall teacher and knows her material very well. She has 10 quizzes throughout the semester. Class is not mandatory, but some quizzes are unannounced. Her tests are quite difficult. Just go to every class, pay attention, and take good notes and you should be fine.
This class would be a lot easier if she gave some type of outline or study guide for her exams, but she doesn't. You get 5 chapters of notes to study and she assigns online homework for each test. A lot of reading and memorizing is required for this class if you want to get a good grade.
I had her for Bio 1 and she was great! Three regular exams, but if your final is a better grade she will replace it. Make sure you do well in lab so it can bring your grade up. She gives one "pop quiz" a week so you do need to study frequently. Overall she is a great teacher who makes you actually learn the material. I would take her again.
Mrs. Adams gives all information needed for the test in lectures. I never read my book. She gives pop quizzes over lecture information, so attendance is pretty important. She makes important concepts obvious and easy to understand. Extra credit is sprinkled here and there with iClicker quizzes.
Hard class, but phenomenal teacher!! She knows how to present the information well and is good at explaining topics that aren't always easy to understand.
Such a great teacher for a difficult subject. She makes the subject easier to understand through her lectures. She doesn't take attendance so class isn't necessary, however she does often explain things that aren't on the powerpoint slides and she does give in class iclicker quizzes so attending is a good idea.
Professor Adams is a great teacher, biology was just a harder subject for me. You have to show up to class because even though she posts her power points online, class is where she really talks about the material on the test. Also, she gives a quiz every week, but won't tell you when it is, so show up! The quizzes are usually pretty easy.
She is honestly a really good teacher. She does no take attendance, but she does give pop quizzes so you need to go to class. The homework is due each test which includes about five chapters. You need the online access code, but I do no recommend buying the book. Her lectures are interesting, but you need to take notes and study.
Kind. Intelligent. Funny at times. Go to class, bring your computer and take hella notes. Homework isn't impossible. You get 3 tries per question and should almost always make an A on each assignment. Tests aren't terrible, study your notes and skin through your textbook. Notecards help a lot in this class. Bring your iclicker just in case :)
Great woman, knows what she's talking about and cares if you don't understand. She likes random quizzes at the beginning of class, so be sure to show up! Class was moderately difficult, not too easy or too hard. I really enjoyed being in her class.
She is an incredible professor. This is a class you'll take and feel like you actually learn. I have never been much of a science person, but she made me feel like I understood, and made me interested. She is really approachable. Honestly I would sit in on her lectures because she is so good at what she does.
I liked this class, but I also love biology. Lectures got lengthy, but they were always interesting. She's funny, but dry. Her tests weren't very hard, but there was just sooooo much material. I would consider taking again.
Professor Adams really does know the material well and you can tell she really loves what she does. For me personally, the lectures were just dry. She is very to the point and is quite monotone. Because of this, I found myself losing interest during some lectures, even though I really enjoy biology.
Very good professor, although lecture heavy. Study past notes before coming to class, as there are (mostly) weekly short iclicker quizzes. Study notes and come to lecture and you'll pass. Good professor who's always willing to answer questions and keeps lectures interesting. Tests are multiple choice, and there are a few short papers too.
Sassy
I liked her. Show up for class, do the homework, study, and you'll be fine. One of the better bio teachers at UTC.
Really good teacher! She teaches the class very well for an entry level course and really breaks down the topics so they are easy to understand. She gives a quiz once a week unannounced, so you need to show up to class; however, she does give extra quizzes to make up for ones that you may have missed or did poorly on.
She is very test heavy there are 4 exams and a final. She has a pop quiz once a week and although attendance isn't required you will miss key slides on the powerpoint and be confused if you do not attend. Not an easy science gen ed filler class.
While Adams is funny and can be sweet, she is extremely lecture heavy and makes it a very hard class. Quizzes have nothing to do with what is said in lecture, 3 exams and a final, all of which are extremely hard. Not an easy class, and grading wasnt very Fair. Would not take again, although shes a sweet girl and means well.
You have to buy the online book to do your homework, and the homework is always harder than the exam. The easiest way to study for the exam is attending the SI review and completing the online chapter practice tests. There are weekly clicker quizzes, but they are easy questions & you get bonus quizzes that can boost your overall grade by 3-4 points
Prof. Adams can be nice and funny, but is lecture heavy and makes her class very hard. I am a Special Ed. major, but this was a required class for me. I wish I hadn't taken her. Her tests are long and hard, and she gives lots of quizzes only out of 5, so if you miss one question your grade hurts. I wouldn't recommend taking her.
Clearly knows what shes doing. Is always willing to help. Makes things clear and easy to understand. I loved her so much I took a second lecture class she taught and she was just as good !
Prof Adams was my favorite from this semester. She's super knowledgeable and very clear on what she expects. Quizzes & exams are straight from her material. Lectures are not word for word from slides and both are needed to get ALL info but she is super thorough. Lots of opportunities to get a good grade!
I had Professor Adams for lab, and although she is nice, I felt like she was a tough grader. She gave me a 50% on my rough draft for my lab report, which is weird cause it's a rough draft. All her quizzes and midterm and final are free response as well, but midterm and final are open note.
Professor Adams is a solid choice. I had her for lab and the class was fine. The work is not too bad, having to turn in our weekly labs and taking a short quiz. She is quite a tough grader though. She is very nitpicky and you are unlikely to get full credit on any assignment (I've gotten a 3.9/4 before). The 2 exams are open note and not bad.
She makes it pretty simple especially for being online. There are learning assessments every few weeks & overview videos each week to go with the chapter that are very helpful. She also used the quizzes within the overview videos for extra points so it boosts your grade
Adams is a solid choice. She is a little nitpicky on her grading, but overall not super harsh. She clearly enjoys what she teaches and tries to involve the class as much as possible.
Professor Adams is passionate about what she teaches, but not to the point where she requires you share the same amount of passion she does. Professor Adams taught us broad concepts only going into detail when necessary. Tests are directly from lectures/PowerPoints and she gives several drops. I have grown fond of her and would take again.
A classic lecture where she reads off the power point and adds a few things. She has pop quizzes that she uses to see attendance and is not every day. We are only graded on exams and active lectures. Just make sure you take good notes and study.
Professor Adams is very passionate about what she teaches and will answer any question you have and is not condescending. If you pay attention in lecture her tests and quizzes are not hard. It is a very lecture heavy class
Adams is caring and gives great feedback on work, but this isn't a super easy filler science class. Tests and quizzes come from the information given on the powerpoint so the textbook is not necessary. The tests are moderately difficult so studying is a must. Don't come to class late because she gives pop quizzes in the beginning of class.
She would start the lecture at the exact moment the class had to start and would speak the entire time. Had hardly any time to ask questions. She would get upset if the class did not want to answer a question. Learning assessments were random during the week, but typically she would only have one a week. Exams are pretty tough so you HAVE to study.
She has a lot of knowledge on the subject and tries hard to bring it to a student-level which I appreciated. She gives so much information in lecture that if you skip class, it is HARD to catch up/ fill in the gaps. Also, she goes heavy on the pop quizzes.
She is an amazing professor. She really cares about her students' success and will do everything she can to help you succeed, even in a class of 90+ people. Graded on homework, pop quizzes, and tests.
Adams was pretty good! It was hard to keep up with her talking speed sometimes so there was a little outside work needed but overall, very willing to work with you. You can tell she is very passionate.
Adams is a hit or miss, but I believe she's better than the other bio professors to choose from. She's very passionate about what she teaches and she gets a bit too excited over the subject sometimes. Beware of weekly LA that is randomly assigned; they are a big portion of the grade and you can't make them up even if you have a viable excuse.
I do not recommend her. There is a 5 question pop quiz every week and she doesn't tell you when or what is on it so most people fail it. You have to at least look over your notes every day. I did not enjoy this class at all. Tests were super hard and there are 4 discussion posts throughout the semester. Lab however was easy.
She's incredibly passionate and genuinely wants students to do their best. Keeps an active environment during lecture.
Professor Adams is such a sweet woman! she is very willing to help you and has office hours three days a week plus supplementary instruction sessions every week. she wants to see you succeed. her exams are a bit tough; I was very convinced I got 100 or close to it on an exam, but I got a 79. I recommend. uses Pearson for homework
Loved Professor Adams! She goes directly off of slides, cares about her students, and if you work hard, you can definitely get an A.
I loved professor Adams. She is very caring and well-spoken about the subjects learned in this course. She explains thoroughly, but straight from slides. I recommend not missing class though, she gives short, randomized learning assessments (quizzes) during class.
Prof Adams is very friendly and gives good lectures. They can sometimes be a little boring, as it's an intro-level course, but they are easy to follow. There is a lot of content, so you MUST pay attention to pass the quizzes and tests. No homework, except occasional discussion posts, and many grades dropped (one test, one discussion, etc.)
She is extremely kind and a great lecturer. You can tell that she cares a lot about her students and the subject. My one complaint is that we covered so much material in such a short time but thankfully the exams were never too hard. Some of the pop quizzes she gives are a little difficult but you just have to listen and take good notes.
Very outgoing and entertaining lectures! She gave (relatively) weekly learning assessments which were fairly easy as long as you keep up during lecture and read your text. Couple of online homework assignments per exam which you get three attempts at.
Very clear in her lectures about what you will need to know on the exams. Pop quiz every week, so you always have to be prepared. Good professor, but the class content itself is pretty extensive, so be prepared to memorize a lot of information.
Interesting class and learned a lot, but there was A LOT of material to study for. Your grade is mostly made from exams. Need to spend a lot of time studying because they are tough. There is also a short pop quiz every week and 3 discussion posts throughout the semester. Just be sure to study as much as you can if you want an A.
Professor Adams was one of the best professors I've taken! My major is environmental science and I have retained so much of what she taught me and I really enjoyed learning the material. Tests were not difficult if you studied the material. She brought such a fun vibe to the classroom.
Professor Adams is such an amazing person. She really knows how to teach the material it is you are learning. She does do pop quizzes but you kind of know when she gives them. The exams are honestly pretty straight forward as long as you study it is easy to get a good grade! Highly recommend taking her
Professor Adams has been the absolute best!! She is one of the best teachers I have had in college. She is super great at teaching visual learners as she almost always draws out hard concepts. She tries her best to not just talk at you but get you actively involved and listening. She is beyond caring and extremely knowledgeable.
I LOVED having Professor Adams! Her lectures are engaging, informative, and super helpful. She provides examples of problems and is always available for extra help. She does give about one pop quiz per week on the material, but will always hint as to what day it is. She cares about her students and wants to see them succeed. Take her if you can!
Passionate and caring professor. My first piece of advice is go to class and study your notes. There is 1 random learning assessment in class a week over the recent lectures with 5 ?'s. I would go to class 10-15 min early everyday and read over my previous notes. As long as you pay attention and take notes you will pass. Loved her!
Easy class and lots of busy work but it isn't hard to accomplish. Tests are difficult and sometimes she uses proctorio on them. Discussion boards are also easy and labs can be annoying because you have to go out and buy supplies but are easy to do.
Great online professor. Everything is organized and easy to get to on canvas. Weekly discussion posts and easy test. Responds quickly to questions, and has no problem re-explaining. Very easy class if you do the work and follow directions.
This class was a great precursor as a BGE major, she is a very clear lecturer and makes the class enjoyable. There are learning assignments every once in a while, but that and the two discussion posts for the class are about all the classwork you'll do. The exams are super easy if you skim over the information.
Professor Adams is one of the best professors I've had. She truly cares a lot about her students and wants the best for them. There is 4 exams, 1 final, 4 homeworks for each module, and a few quizzes here and there. Her lectures cover a lot and sometimes some of the stuff covered is not always in the presentations. Highly recommend for bio majors!
She is hard to follow during lectures as well as the only things we are tested on are exams and in class learning assessments. Unapproachable.
Professor Adams is very passionate about what she teaches. Tests are straightforward, you'll do fine if you study. She's very sweet, please go to her office hours if there's something you don't understand or if you just want to talk.
Reading the textbook will greatly influence your grade in her class. She gives lots of announced quizzes, at least once a week. If you pay attention in class they are easy to get a good grade as they are on information we learned in the same lecture
she is very good at lecturing, but won't answer your questions during lectures. yells through her whole lecture so if you have sensory issues like me be aware of that. exams are decently tricky, but nothing too crazy. overall good class just be aware of the small issues she has
The grade that really matters is the exam grade and if you study for that you will be more than fine. The exams are not too hard and there is only 4 + final. There are only 2 assignments & some quizzes throughout, they are super easy if you make time. There are also a lot of drops!! She was also very nice and approachable, always willing to help.
Attendance is somewhat mandatory, you have weekly "check ins" where you do an assignment on your phone, and answer around 5 questions. Super quick and easy. She heavily goes into detail about work and assignments. And she is a constant reminder when it comes to assignments. Highly recommend!
Professor Adams is amazing and honestly the best professor in her department.
Very loud. Also there is alot of attendance assessments that require an I clicker account which she will yell at you for not being able to access. This teacher will pop quiz you on everything and expect maximum participation from an AUDITORIUM CLASS. Some may like this but personally it is very overwhelming for someone with a life outside of school
Had her only for lab, she is very patient and understanding. Answers all questions in great detail and gives good feedback on assignments like lab reports.
