Best math teacher I've ever had. All of his tests and quizes are uniform. He is extremely clear and gives alternative ways of looking at a problem, therefore making it easier for everyone. Takes time to thuroughly answer questions.
one of the best math teachers I've ever had. has a great way of explaining things. take his class if you can
Even though he is rather robotic I still think he was a great math teacher. It did seem like he was talking down to us most of the time but then again it was Math 070... any many people I know from the class still managed to do very poorly. tsk tsk.
everything that i ever learned in math i learned from cal kafka. he's a really good math teacher. i took 070, 090, and 121 with him and he's made math much more easier. he explains everything really clearly and his notes are very helpful.
Excellent teacher, presents materials in an easy-to-understand way. Pay attention in class and take good notes and it'll pay off with a decent grade. Highly recommended!
He's is a great teacher. Takes his time to explain the material very thoroughly, and take times to help you out. I recommend him.
Eventhough I was in what smart kids call "dumb math", he never made us feel like we were stupid. He is a very good teacher.
He's the man.
Great teacher
BEST MATH TEACHER AT UIC! Goes slow enough for everyone to understand, but quick enough that students don't become bored. I now rule at poker thanks to his class.
Easy Class, take it because you will understand everything he teaches. And the test are multi. choice, so how can you go wrong. Oh, did i say that it was a pass or fail class!!!
Very good teacher, explains everything. Class is easy I don't even have to go to class. Willing to talk outside of class if you don't understand. Moves at a doable pace. Overall great teacher
Great teacher. The placement tests at UIC are weird.
he is a cool guy...always on schedule and very organized. his tests and quizzes are examples that he gives in class. i didnt really look at the book that much cuz his notes were good enough to rely on...but buy the book
Excellent Professor. Explained the stuff well, was organized and he knew what he was was talking about. I wish others were like him... Good man..................
I just want to say that Kafka was the best teacher for math 121. I would recommend this class to anyone. Holla!!!
He is really good... excellent teacher... especially since I'm in the dumb kids math class and I don't belong in there, damn placement test, and he puts up with all the idiots questions. very cool guy
he's my inspiration for going to my 9 am class. looking at him is a better way to start my day than that yummy bowl of wheaties:)
Kafka is an awsome teacher. He explains eveything very clearly. Also his tests and quizes are very similar to the examples that he does in class. Great teacher
he is very easy and easy to understand
Wow what a GREAT teacher! he explains everything very clearly. and you will leave each lucture feeling so knowledgable. hes awesome!!!
kafka is an excellent prof. he has well organized notes and clarifies things very well. he prepares you for everything that will be on the exam like he'll make a study guide with similar question from the exam. just study his notes and you'll be fine. best math prof.
This was by far the best math i have ever taken. Kafka was very clear and worked at a really good pace! I even struggled in the class at first and i still reccommend him!! I am doing great now-and if i were taking math for another level, if it were possible, i would take him again!!!
Best teacher at UIC, hands down!
Good prof. His lectures are as interesting as math is gonna get. He does explain everything out pretty well, and gives examples, and how to do them. That's the point of a math class, right? he does have this strange habit of walking backwards after each example, but whatever. Take him!
he's the greatest math teacher i've ever had in my life!!! and i had the biggest fear and hate for math but he explains everything really well, sometimes TOOO much....he talks like kermit de frog...haha.. but he's very available for office hours...greatest teacher at UIC..!!! no doubt
He's hot stuff.
hes absolutely amazing. best math teacher in the history of math teachers.
very good lecturer and very organized teacher.

This class is very easy with this teacher, however the TA's are not as helpful because most of them don't speak English. If you go to lecture, this guy really goes through everything, step-by-step. He's really thorough because he has a way to explain things that a monkey could understand. GREAT TEACHER!
he is by far the best math professor around
He's got so much patience.
I can't remember when was the last time I got a 100% on a math exam, but I guess I got to hand it to good ol' Calvin. He makes everything clear cut and simple. Good man, good teacher.
He's very patient. Explains the material to it's full extent. A very Knowlagable. Kind of teacher that makes you want to go to class.
He is hot stuff, he is flaming, He looks good.
he is a great teacher... and very hot for all u ladies
He explains everything fully and gives lots of examples. His grading is fair, and he actually does a good job preparing you for calculus.
This teacher is very helpful and clear. He explains every problem and works through every step. His tests are medium difficulty, but could be mastered. TA's are not as helpful, some don't even allow you to use a calculator. I highly recommend his for a teacher and would take him again in continuing mathematics courses.
The class is very easy, he explains everything step by step that you dont even need the book to pass the class. His tests are more difficult than they should be but you can pass and get above C with barely any effort. He is great yet people barely show up to class..
Good teacher. Explains better than the others and makes students understand. A little boring sounding but for someone who is weak in Math an excellent teacher.
He is really helpful, patient, and overall a good professor! Hated math but loved his class just because finally after 19 years of my life I started understanding math! Definately recomend it to everyone!
he is one of the best...
The class was extremely easy. Kafka explains every method clear. He makes math so simple.
Lectures were helpful. But TAs failed to keep on same track as Kafka and emphasized too much of their own teachings/direction. Quizes were nothing like what we learned from Kafka.
He is one of the best professors I've had so far. He is very clear and straight forward with the material. He is also very helpful. DEFINETELY RECOMMENDED!!
I learned more in kafkas class in 8 weeks then I learned in Rices class in 16 weeks. I reccomend this guy... He is kind of werid but he is a great guy
Makes learning math so easy. He is very clear in his teaching, and walks you through every step. The TA's weren't too helpful, so make sure you go to lecture!!! If you go to lecture, you will definitely receive an A or B in this course.
Exams are too hard. He does teaches very clearly but too slow sometimes. Doesnt cover all the material.
He is the best professor I've ever had. He is very clear at explaining the material. Definetely take math with him. Because of him, Math 160 was my favorite class during the semester!
He is a good prof indeed, but his TA are not good. He teaches kind of slow but he get the point across. You will find yourself doing two problem in Disc for 45mins. TA always late and hardly teach anything or understand anything they say. Be careful of the TA of this class.
I had no problems with his teaching style, he was a decent professor. If you can though take him during the summer. I did not pass 075 during the fall but passed it over the summer
great guy.... highly reccomend
he is a great teacher. He makes sure everything is covered and understood. Although he goes over every little end in the end it help. He is very helpful also. BETTER THAN OTHER TEACHER IN THE MATH
He is one of the best in my mind. I know alotta other students enjoy his class... The class is realtively easy andf only consists of 2 tests, hw and the online quizzes. As long as you do the homework you will get credit, the quizzes are the hardest aspect of this course. However he drops the lowest quiz.
Everybody raves about Kalfka. Everyone knows him to be the best math prof at UIC. He's a easygoing, helpful, detailed prof who helps his students fully understand how to do math fast and simple. Teaches step by step. Great!
Now this is a teacher! Kafka is simply the best. Although it was a lower level math class and only 8 weeks long he went through every section so that even a monkey can understand. The common trend at UIC is with good professors you get hard exams not Kafka he was very fair if you go to lecture what you see is what you get. Good teacher, good man
The best math professor I've ever had.
best math teacher i've ever had. clear, speaks ENGLISH, and is very helpful. exams are definitely doable.
I love kafka.. he's the best math teacher i EVER had at UIC. he makes math easy. the workload for homework is light. if u pay attention what is done in the classroom, I guarantee that you will not receive anything lower than a C in his class.
very good
I failed this class with this professor like 4 times but, in all fairness he is a really good professor, he teaches the materal pretty good and overall is a really nice guy. The prob is Kafka is very dry in his teaching methods which makes you not want to go to class but if you go ull learn something
Excellent clarity when teaching. He gives great notes and examples. The best thing about the notes is that he list the steps needed to solve a problem. That makes the material much more easy to learn.
He is THE BEST teacher I have had for math. He is very clear and organized. If you go to lecture and write things down, you will get an A in the course.
Professor Kafka is the kind of professor you just don't forget. His voice is sorta robotic which may compell you not to attend class but, please do. He is a excellent teacher and gets right to the point in his lectures you won't get distracted by one line antedotes his lectures are purely mathematical. Take his clss and you will have magic powers
Ok first, whats wrong w/ the ppl who rated him so high. 2nd, he NEEDS to RETIRE. dude, hes freakin million years old. but yeh, i admit, hes really eazy. but hes realllly slowwww, so ez to fall asleep in class. u'll be bored to death. but yeh take him for an ez A and boost yr GPA.
Professor Kafka is the best. Extremely clear in teaching and very helpful. Gives practice exams that are very much like the actual exams. He definitely prepares you for future math courses. I higly recommend this professor.
Excellent teacher. Very easy and helpful!! Gives good examples and he knows his material. One of the best professors at UIC.
Amazing teacher- explains everything very clearly
He seems to be very nice. If you keep up you should be fine, if not he will not hesitate to fail you.
Don't take his class. If you do, then make sure to actually go instead of always relying on coursecompass to get you the A.
Kafka is the****, the man makes math look easy, always come to class prepared with his notes, and already went over the chapter the day before, so when he explains the topic, he knows what he is saying. His exams are easy, no HW, you could get an easy A if you actually go to class and take some notes. He is the MAN when it comes to math.
He is a very good teacher and he knows what he is talking about. He explains things very well and enjoys what he does. Two tests and a final. Pretty easy A
One of the best math professors @ UIC. Very helpful and he knows everything there is to know about math. Explains things very well and is available to help you when needed. Just come to class prepared and willing to learn.
What can I say about kafka? Had him in the summer, great professor ALWAYS willing to help students and answer any questions that arise during lecture. His exams were not bad. He didn't assign homework. I wish I had him for calculus one or two. Thus far he is the best professor i have had at UIC.
Kafka holds it down like no other. Best math teacher at UIC.
Professor Kafka is one of the best math professors I have had, probably one of the best at UIC. He explains everything clearly and his exams are very easy.
Other teachers need to be taught by him! He breaks everything down step by step. He answer your questions and email. Please teach me math until I get my math credit for med school!(if you read this) Everyone it is a MUST you get him. Go Mr. CK!
He's is a great professor and he's the best outta most math teachers! I recommend him because hes a very nice guy. He's also very clear.
Kafka is a first off, a very nice man. As a mathematician, you can tell that he is passionate about his subject. As a teacher, he knows exactly how to explain concepts so that the student understands. He breaks down each process into the most basic steps so the student won't miss a beat. I honestly think other professors should observe him.
Professor Kafka explains concepts clearly and is always available to answer questions. His exams are difficult, but fair. He clearly loves what he does and inspires students to do their best. He is awesome.
Amazing teacher, enough said!
Professor Kafka is so helpful. I hardly attended his class and passed with an A. All the homework is online, so you do not need the book. He seems as though his goal is to help everyone pass. Very nice man. I would recommend him to anyone.
professor Kafka is a very good teacher. I would recommend his class. he is very nice, and he is willing to help out in his office hours. good class, you should take it, he is pretty clear about his work, and nice.
Best math teacher this school has to offer, hands down.
The professor is very knowledgeable. He make things easy for people who are not so good at math. As long as you attend lecture and discussion you can do great. What i ment by that is getting an a or B.
A rather easy going teacher and understanding if you miss or need something. The only complaint I have is that he assigns a lot of homework on coursecompass, which can get tedious after a while and his tests/quizzes are harder than the homework.
Genuine teacher who is willing to help with any problems. It is clear he loves what he is doing. Always on time and very organized. Best math teacher I've ever had.
He explains the material logically and slowly. He enjoys what he is teaching and actually cares about the students and is down to earth He is by far the best math teacher I have ever had and I suggest you take him if you have had a hard time understanding the resoning in math.
So far out of all the teachers I've had at Uic, he is the best. A very nice and caring person. Teaches very smoothly and accordingly. If you are not good with Math, you will BE after taking this class. You learn ALOT!
Great math teacher probably one of the best math teachers I've ever had I hope I'l have him for calculus
Very Helpful, & understanding best professor I had my freshmen year of college.
He's a VERY nice proffessor, I would say, literally, probably the NICEST and well-understood proffessor on campus. Do NOT hesitate to ask him about anything in math. He wants people to succeed.
By far the best math teacher I have had. Explains in great detail, organized and very helpful in the concepts. Love Kafka.
Best math teacher I've had by far, and one of the best teachers I've had in general!
Good teacher. Extremely clear. Homework on mathlab is incredibly easy. tests are beyond fair.
Cutest man I have ever seen. Very easy to understand, makes sure to go over material in reasonable time. My favorite professor thus far.
I think he's a great professor overall. He teaches things really slow just so you can understand the topic well. He's really funny sometimes. so definitely take him!
he is a very nice person and a great teacher! his lectures can be a bit dull tho, but that does not mean you should skip! everything he teaches you will be on the homework and on the exam.no tricks! he gives review packets before each exam(including the final) and they are very similar to what you will see on the exams.great teacher!
GREAT teacher, seriously a math genius. You can tell he really loves his job. Is very clear, and makes you understand math!
Great teacher, math genius. You can tell he really loves teaching math. Is very clear, and truly makes you understand math!
He's a great professor! His lectures could be boring, but he's a great guy. Mymathlab helps a ton and He's a nice guy. He helped me bring up my 42% to a 70% by the end of the semester! He's cool, I wish I could have him for all my math classes.
Professor Kafka is and will always be my favorite professor. I hated math before I took his class. He explains everything really well and helps out whenever he can. Before each exam he gave us study guides that are similar to the exams. If you go to class, it's hard not to get an a. I wish he taught calc.
very clear. 30% curve on the 2nd exam, 20% on the 3rd and 10% on the final. my math lab quizzes suck. theres lots of assignments but a really good class.
Professor Kafka is a very nice professor, despite the constant rudeness (people answering their phone in class, why??) and low attendance, due to this being a remedial course. He is very approachable, but doesn't respond to emails consistently, so talk to him in class. Attendance is not taken in class or discussion.
I used to be horrible in math. seriously, he is the best teacher I have ever had. I started at math 075, failed 090 due to some careless/horrible teacher, took 090 again with him passed it, then took 121 with him and received an A! take him if you can! you WILL NOT regret it! my ta was awesome too! take Nathan Bliss if he is available.
Best math teacher i have ever had.
