Really interesting, intelligent, and grades fairly
My favorite teacher on campus. Its obvious Calvin cares about his students
amazing, cares, his tangents are brilliant, doesn't believe in e-mail
Cal is hot. Neoconservatism be damned!
Finally a man with passion, thank you for making me want to go to class!

Townsend rocks!

TOWNSEND:'i thought id bump my sexy average up'
A tireless provider of noble fictions
you know its good when he says idis makes no sense and sounds like a disease.
Brilliant, so fired up, makes coming to class fun, a great guy to talk to, his classes are great and they make you think
Graduation is drawing closer and Calvin still stands at the top of my list---best prof at Trinity. He is the reason why many of us begun higher education. Right on Calvin.
He's awesome, what more can I say?
who thinks calvin should be the next university president? I DO, I DO!!!
He was a good leader for IDIS class. The one thing I didn't like was that he said that Genesis could not be taken literally.
his loudness and mannerisms turned me off.
Passionate about the subject matter, which is good. However, his increasingly loud voice and flailing hands make you wonder if he's trying to convince himself...
Calvin is the true Athenian Stranger.

Townsend is the biggest gossip on campus. He's worse than the lady next door who won't stop peeking into your windows. He should give up teaching and take up knitting. Be careful what you tell him, soon all rels professors will know. Townsend I know your reading this, consider it a warning you snoop
Calvin is, hands down, the best prof at Trinity. He is totally passionate about the subject, and teaches the truth. These were the most engaging, thought-provoking, and fun classes ever. One of those rare teachers who makes you want to lock yourself in a library cubicle and read books forever because what they are saying is really that important.
he rules
Townsend hides out in the open...
This man embodies the concept of a blowhard. He speaks highly of the "liberal arts education" yet he teaches with a closed system. Indoctrination comes to mind. Not to mention how he uses his position to spew forth his poltical views. Avoid Townsend like the black plague. -- And remember the father of capitalism is John Locke, not Adam Smith.
Man... Cal sucks! Worst Teacher ever!
Townsend is the master of political esoterics!
Townie Cultists drive me crazy and this class was full of them. I felt very discriminated against as a woman. He makes **** comments on a regular basis and while he asks the women in the class to respond, he also make comments suggesting that women's opinions are invalid. Avoid having to suject yourself to Townsend if you can.
Like Socrates, Townsend will undermine all authority! He is the master of philosophic rhetoric!

Townsend was awesome; it took him all of 10 minutes to convince me to be POLS major! He's so incredibly smart, and he knows how to use it! Townsend can be a bit provocative at times, but he provokes you to think, makes you step outside of your pre-determined train of thought and makes you actually think! Amazing teacher, he truly cares!
a beautiful soul. like his namesake. calvin's teaching style is the ideal - you truly get a liberal arts education from this man
great guy, really knows his stuff. very easy to get to know.
I had the Townsinator for 101 and 250. He's absolutely awesome, questioning everything! I am going to really miss his classes. He allows you to explore and write whatever you feel passionate about. Amazing person!
In terms of passion for his material and ability to make it come alive, Cal has a remarkable gift. Like most classes, but most especially his, if you throw yourself into the concepts and issues and put alot in you can get alot out. Cal does a great job of encouraging his students to do this on a very individual level, if you let him.
I took POLS 101 and 250 with Cal, he is an amazing prof, full of passion and makes the material come alive. Because of 101 I realized I actually do have an interest in politics and classical political thought from Plato and the like - should be a required core course for all students
He has great enthusiasm for the topic that he teaches. However, I found it extremely hard to keep track of all his though paths. He seemed to go off on tangents all the time which made it difficult for me. Reading responsed are marked by a TA who was quite a hard marker. He looks for specific things but is also open to hearing your own opinons.
has a lot of passion and cares for his students, he learnt everyones name within the first week. however, don't eat up everything he says: make your own conclusions, he is very opinionated and sometimes heretical. hated that he marked with the concept that "there is no perfection in this life". overall, i am definitely not a "townsenite"
Cal is by far my favourite prof I've had at this school. Passionate about his subject matter, passionate about students, and absoultely hilarious. A bit controversial, but in the best way. So nice, had a crush on him after my first day! Take his class!
Excellent professor and excellent class a definite MUST TAKE for anyone at TWU. It should be University 101
What an amazing professor and class! So passionate and open minded. This is what the university experience should be. If you want to expand your mind and worldview while at TWU take his "Influential Thinkers..." course. He's more interested in learning and discussion than memorization and regurgitation. Very kind and helpful. Highly recommended.
Hands down best prof at TWU. What a Liberal Arts Education is all about.
Riveting speaker, but unfortunately it becomes very obvious that he completely improvises as he goes. He repeats himself A LOT. Seriously, if you missed a point he made, or an entire class for that matter, odds are he'll re-state everything several times. Valuable class time is often wasted because of this. Luckily this is his only downfall :D
Incredible prof, had a passion for not only his material, but for the students he taught. Spent a lot of 1 on 1 time with students to get to know them. Exam questions are given to you, always there for extra help. Controversial, but thought provoking. A bit cocky, but well deserved. he is extremely intelligent, and funny.
I learned a so much from this class. Townsend teaches not just big and important ideas, he teaches you how to think. Excellent class and excellent prof.
Amazing Professor. Absolutely brilliant.
I would like to hear Cal's opinion.. instead he draws out our ideas. This isn't bad but I left the course wondering what he really thought.
Best class I've ever taken
Best prof, best class
Amazing personality, humor, helpfullness. He makes you understand and love poli sci and rels. Best prof i have ever had, makes you feel so important and is so interested in getting to know his students. I love cal !
An amazing prof who has a heart for each and every student. He gets his point across in a clear and concise manner and is willing to put the extra time in. Attend Tutorial! You'll learn a lot. Not the class you'll get an A+ in, but you'll do well. Definitely a must take!
One of THE best profs you can take at TWU. his presentation of course material blows your mind, his lectures are very engaging and he is very encouraging and helpful with papers. everyone should take SOMETHING by him, be it pols 101 or rels 465.
AMAZING PROF!!!
A fantastic teacher, Cal Townsend is extremely engaging. This class focuses on political philosophy, so be prepared to study the Ancients. The TA marks the weekly reading responses brutally, so don't be too discouraged; it happens to the best of us. All in all, take his course. He's loud, opinionated, and funny. You'll learn a lot.
Where do I begin. CalTown was probably one of my favourite profs this semester. He displays a great knowledge of politics, both modern and ancient. He keeps class interesting and makes learning fun and easy.
Cal Townsend is top notch. He's so knowledgeable and SO passionate. Loves SPARTA. He's always going back and going over concepts from previous classes to solidify them in your head. Always willing to help with papers or questions, cares a lot about his students. And apparently he does premarital counseling too, which I think would be AWESOME.
Best Prof ever, so animated and engaging. Really gets to know his students.
AWESOME, if you have the option to take him please do!
AMAZING
You need to take one of Cal's classes before leaving TWU!! He is the best professor I have ever heard at taking complex issues, making sense of them, and delivering the message in a way that engages undergraduate students. He is passionate about his job, which shows in every lecture he delivers and the massive amount of time he pours into students.
Everyone needs to take one of his classes!!! I could listen to him talk all day! very interesting topics are covered! Such a good Professor! :D
Great teacher, he lectures each class and makes all the readings crystal clear. The homework isn't difficult, but it is every week and will require some time.
Cal is funny, animated, and engaging. I enjoy political philosophy. He just reiterates the material over and over again. It's like Plato for Dummies. While I'm not in Mensa (yet), I found it excessive. That's my only complaint.
Prof. Cal Townsend is a quirky, opinionated guy that is at times unclear in his expectations of midterms and term papers. Keep a dialogue going throughout the entire course in class and outside of class with him and you're sure to do well. His tutorials on fridays are like mini lectures with a bit of dialogue mixed in. Those are a definite must go.
Amazing professor, he is very kind, and really cares about his students. I really enjoy his lectures, he is engaging, funny, and really gets you thinking!!! Highly recommend taking one of his classes!!
Great Teacher, and amazing lectures, Professor Townsend will make your Uni experience even better.
Cal is by far my FAVOURITE professor! He cares so much about all of his students, and is beyond passionate about the material he teaches. He's very clear about expectations for papers and assignments, and it really isn't hard to get an A in his class. Take him EVEN IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO!! :)
He's really great and makes you actually want to go to class. He also tells a lot of great stories that are related to what you're learning. We have weekly assignments that aren't hard but just time consuming. Overall I love his class!
Cal teaches with both energy and enthusiasm; hes a fast speaks, but, he repeats himself multiple times thorough the lecture which makes it possible to catch up on notes. Taking notes and attending class are a must, since he explains the course material really thoroughly. Its a great learning exertion and a must take class.
I took three classes with him because I liked his classes so much and they all fit into the core requirement at Trinity Western. They were all life changing but this one was my favorite!
Great content but he repeats himself a lot and tends to go on random rants (save yourself and don't bring up Trump). He is not very organised and assigns final papers and midterms on a whim (but gives students a chance to vote on due dates). There isn't much opportunity for discussion in class or discussion groups. Textbooks not necessary.
Cal was a great prof in that he was very engaging in his lectures and was obviously passionate about what he was teaching. However, he does not typically give higher than a 8.5/10 on any given assignment, regardless of effort and quality. There are weekly group assignments that go towards your participation mark which is a lot of your grade.
I LOVE Cal!! He makes sure to know everyone's names very early on in the year, really cares about his students, is so funny and a cute old man. You just have to read the books he tells you to (not hard, he has discussion groups where he tells u everything u need to know). love him. take his class even if u don't need to. wish I was his best friend
Cal is truly a gem. I looked forward to going to class because of his lectures. He definitely says things to make you think critically about your beliefs and the world around you. You need to have him as a prof at least once during your time at Trinity.
While he doesn't take attendance, you won't want to skip any of his classes because a lot of material is covered each lecture. You won't want to skip any classes anyways because Cal is super engaging and will blow your mind. He goes out of his way to have personal relationships with his students. 10/10 would recommend
I really liked him. I might not necessarily agree with him on everything but hes very passionate about what he teaches and he also cares about his students. If he was the first Christian I met then I might have actually ended up converting to Christianity.
Very nice person, incredibly boring lectures (no fault of his own, it's just a boring class) but the easiest A you will ever get in your whole college career. Get him to talk about his music collection, he has an incredible collection and an amazing taste in music.
Great prof overall! He was SO understanding about the difficulties of online classes (with Covid-19 and all) and made it super easy for students to get an A. His class was pretty lecture-heavy but he makes them entertaining. He also does NOT shy away from sharing his political views and I'm sure he offended a few students... Oh well!
Cal is the most colloquial yet professional prof I have had at TWU. He makes your class feel like you're all friends with one another and with him, and his lectures are engaging and interesting. He is a transparent man and well respected, I considered switching my major to pols so I could have more classes of his. He is truly fascinating.
My favorite prof at Trinity so far! LIterally so entertaining I always looked forward to going to class and he tells the funniest stories. The course content itself was fairly difficult but if you pay attention it's doable. You can tell he really cares about his students.
Very loud and opinionated. He tells good stories and is quite entertaining, he just sometimes says inappropriate and ignorant things. I think he says things a lot of the time just to get a reaction out of the students. He is respected and he genuinely cares for his students. The class is easy, you just have to participate in the group discussions.
Cal Townsend is a great guy all around. He shows kindness to students in such an extent I rarely see offered by professors. I truly think he is one of the greats.
My favourite man in the world!!!!!!!!!!
The most entertaining professor I have ever seen
The class itself is boring and pointless. BUT if you're going to take a FNDN with anyone take it with Cal. Actually if you have the option of ever taking a class with Cal do it. The class was all papers but they were relatively easy and he marks easy, he just cares that you do the work and care about what you write.
Cal is friendly, caring, dedicated, and easygoing. He is an incredibly capable teacher who pours into his students and knows his material off by heart. He makes every student feel welcome and learning from him was an absolute pleasure. However, his lectures can sometimes feel like drinking from a fire hose so ask questions and TAKE LOTS OF NOTES.
This is the best professor I've had in six years of college. Knoledgeable and respectful. Lectures are wonderful and he is very skillful at teaching. I have never missed his class, and I have enjoyed the lectures. I finally experienced joyful learning.
great character and amazing teaching
The best prof in TWU
Professor Cal is a real character - entertaining lectures, but can be a bit provocative. Lots of group work, but he grades fairly. Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for staying on top of the material. Definitely take this class if you can.
Very nice and friendly teacher. Very easy marker. Very passionate about the subject material. Wakes up in the early morning to read and study philosophy, makes notes, then comes to class to present. His life revolves around reading, teaching, and a little bit of golfing. He loves eating good food like Asian cuisine too and cracks jokes sometimes.
Awesome guy
Cal has been one of the best professors I have had so far at TWU. His classes are lecture-heavy as he talks the whole time; however, he definitely knows how to keep your attention. He sometimes says very out of pocket comments, but he is the sweetest and most helpful teacher ever. He has helped me a lot with my other classes and does not do tests!
I loved Cal's class. His lectures are unique and engaging. It's clear he really desires to connect with his students. There are barely any assignments, just take good notes!
