Use power point presenation, which he turn of the light and makes the class fall asleep, that kills it for the class. Do all your homework and in class homework adn you'll be fine.

The open book/notes exam policy is nice, but don't use it as an excuse to slack off on studying beforehand! If you don't keep up on the reading, you won't know where to find anything; therefore, you won't do well. Pros 1. Passionate about bio, so knowledgable lectures Cons 1. You have to print out like A LOT of pages for his lab assignments. Screw the earth i guess? 2. Online homework - I absolutely despise this method of teaching. He throws up ninja assignments a day before they're due. If you miss it, no credit. Not clear on due dates for anything. 1/10

this class took away so much time from me. We had to attend mandatory lectures that were not during our scheduled days due to days missed because of holidays. I also found myself printing a lot of worksheets like cross word puzzles (in college?) which was frustrating because it felt like such a waste of money and especially paper!!

Boring prof. Lectures are basically useless b/c he reads off the book and lectures are posted online. But he still expects you to be there. Labs are complete waste of time. You finish everything in 30 minutes, but you still have to stick around (lab is 3 hours). Tests are difficult, esp. if you can't stay awake in his class. Do not recommend.

I wish there was another Genetics professor. Young made the students as well as myself feel idiotic when having questions. Then when forced to provide an answer he answered like a politician. Lectures are not structured well and hardly ever gave breaks for a three hour lectures. Very sad to call him our only Genetics professor at FJC.

Like some other reviews, I really wish there was another genetics professor at FJC. Professor Young never answers the questions directly, his answers are very diplomatic and not helpful most of the times. Other times he answers questions with a question rather than giving an actual explanation.

If you are looking for a class where the teacher will talk for 3 hours and then makes you feel idiotic for asking questions, then this is the class for you. The class itself is not hard; however, the lack of clarification and structure makes it impossible. Furthermore, all his exams are free-response, so he is extra harsh on your answers.

I read through his ratemyprofessor thinking I could handle it, but I was SOO wrong. He was not as helpful as I would have liked and he wanted VERY specific information on exams/labs. I did all the work/ emailed, but he would take off so many points for the littlest things. Don't be like me and pay attention to the stuff written about him on here.

(1/2) I received an A in this course and I do agree with the other comments but I think it's still possible to do really well in this course. For the 3 exams, watch the lecture recordings, read each chapter, do every single problem sheet and book question. For labs, pay special attention to the rubric and ask if you think you missed something.

(2/2) For the lab final, study what you did in each lab really well. If you can do each calculation/analysis part, it's doable. For the other lecture assignments, you get full credit if you do each problem/requirement and follow the instructions correctly. Try not to miss points on labs or assignments, so pay close attention to instructions.

Professor Young would get very annoyed when students were asking questions. Some students felt uncomfortable with asking questions, in fear that Professor Young would verbally snap at them. Young offered no extra credit . Young had no study guides. No in class tutors. Young suggest students to work together then give a zero for shared answers.

Very old fashioned, nothing wrong with that but no point in attending class since all he does is read off his power points. He sounds like a monotone robot and you learn nothing because his lectures are straight off the book. Its a literal waste of 3 hours and he makes the class harder than it needs to be by overcomplicating simple assignments.

the tests are hard, and so much is covered in class. It is honestly a little too much in my opinion. For me, I had to study 4 hours a day and still got a B. All in all, just prepare for heavy intake during his lectures. And his TESTS are so hard, so be sure to study!!

Very boring lectures. Doesnt explain things well. Wants the class to engage and respond to his questions but if you answer incorrectly he makes you feel like it should have been common sense. Some of us are learning something new here! He does accept late work which is cool.

This class is not as hard as people say it is. He actually puts in effort to give quality lectures and power-points. This is one of the few classes where I felt like I actually learned and understood material well. The tests require application and depth, but are predictable. He is not monotone -- he actively tries to make class interesting!

This professor respected their students and always cared about their well-being. He appreciates communication and offers an extremely fair workload amount in both lab and lecture portions. He lets you go early sometimes, as long as you finish your work. You must pass both lab and lecture to pass the class. Overall, great professor!

Biology is a subject that I love and Professor Young can easily be the one to blow that passion for Biology for new students that would like to learn. He reads off his slides and his assignments are easy. His personality is rude for the most part. He's remarking, gets annoyed easily for no reason. So stay off the radar and you'll do fine.

Students beware, you're in for a scare. Overcomplicates topics, simply reads off the slides, ridicules question asked, instructions of activities either unclear or incomplete, grading rubric does not reflect how he actually grades assignments, so much unrelated/unhelpful busywork towards the end of the semester when he runs out of lectures.

Professor Young's class is a challenge, but with the right approach it's doable. The material is dense, and he expects specificity, so staying on top of the textbook, practice problems, and lab work is key. unstuck AI was a lifesaver for me - the practice tests really helped solidify the concepts.

This professor is extremely rude, lectures don't relate with anything on the exams, reads DIRECTLY off the slideshow so don't even bother coming to class you aren't missing anything. I was reading other comments and I don't really agree. This professor explains well and it is constantly giving extra credit assig. There is one Field Trip which is really fun. I took this class hybrid maybe that is why I feel like it was easy. Exams are 35 to 40 questions and everything was reviewed in (Lab) sit with ppl tht work, they will help.
