Has high expectations... teaches from black board and powerpoint, which is pretty cool. He expects a lot of elaboration on his tests so better read a lot.
He is an excellent teacher, knows his history and very funny. Take notes, read book test is relatively easy if u pay attention and do your work. I have learned a lot from professor addis and plan on taking his class in history II
A really funny guy, he really knows his stuff, he’s like a walking textbook, in a good way. You can tell he likes what he does. As long as you read and study hard, you can do really well in his class, oh yah and turn in your paper on time. I'd recommend him, He's a great teacher and always asks if anyone has questions before the test
I took 1302 at a different college and the teacher sucked. I was looking forward to learning more. The whole time I was thinking about how lucky I was to have such an awesome teacher like Addis. He goes over a lot and and expects you to elaborate on the test, which in turn you have to read to pass the class. Hilarious as well!
Pretty hard for a history class but the guy knows his stuff! Not friendly but I would recommend him.
This professor used Microsoft PowerPoint lectures for every class we had. He knows his stuff, so I gave him a crystal clear clarity. His tests are very straight forward--a review sheet with everything you need to know which can be found in sections of the book. We had one 5 page (double-spaced) essay about our family tree. I recommend!
Great teacher. I wish I knew about him for history 1301. History is my WORST subject and I struggled to get a C in Hist 1301 with a different teacher, but with Addis getting a B in hist 1302 was a breeze. If reading comprehension isn't your thing--I would advoid him though, since your success in Addis' class relies heavily on studying the textbook.
AMAZING TEACHER! He is so interesting! I LOVED his class! I will take for hist II. But, you MUST go to class or points from grade will be taken. You have to write a paper at the end of the semester. His test material comes from the notes and the same for the essay on the test. oh and dont ever let your phone go off! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
At first I hated him... but he is pretty cool.
mister addis is a great teacher who acts tough but really isn't too tough. his test are hard, but easy to study for and he grades his essays very easily.
I really enjoyed this class, he really doesn't assign a whole lot and his lectures are interesting. Funny guy, too. I'm taking 1302 with him next semester. Highly recommend.
I had him for HIST I and I love him! He has a laid back class period and doesn't care if you show up or not. His Test are fair and easy to study for. Even though you don't have to show up to class I recommend you do. He is very intelligent and funny I am definitely taking him for HIST II
He's an Awesome teacher. very nice!!! If you need help understanding anything he would be the guy! just make sure you go to class take notes and read the book and you'll be fine. Not to mention his tests are easy but there is an essay part of the test. but other then that great class!
Very Helpful
Currently in 1302. Great teacher, very interesting and insightful. Book use is low. He is easy to listen to and puts all powerpoints on blackboard for easy note-taking. Challenging class but he is great. Always has little "tid-bits" of knowledge you would never have known that keep you interested in his lectures. Definitely recommend.
AWESOME professor. Study a lot, read the book, pay attention during power points. Tests are hard, but he covers everything clearly in his lectures. Turn paper in on time, and come to class. He does not take role, but he cares about who shows up. EXTREMELY helpful and is willing to go that extra mile.
Great comprehensive lesson plans
Wonderful! Absolutely wonderful! Take his class you will learn and pass!
he hands out a study guide, if you know everything on the study guide you should get an A easy.
Dr. Addis is a superb Professor. His knowledge about history is awesome and he makes the class interesting. He is very fair and is interested in his students success.
Great professor! I highly recommend taking him! He makes History interesting. Lets you go early a lot. Tests are easy if you know the review!
Super nice, Im taking his OPC class this semester, and has made a lot of accomidations for weather issues. Great communication and is very willing to help. Will take for 1302.
Took his course online. He puts really good reviews for the test on his website, study them hard and you will do fine. Tests require a lot of studying if you don't know very much about history, though. He answers emails very soon. I would recommend this class to someone looking to take history online.
Great teacher, extremely helpful, the class is easy (you still have to study though) makes history very interesting which is why i am taking him for 1302. Would definitely recommand him.
He is a good professor who seems to care about the subject he is teaching. The tests can be challenging, so filling out the review completely and studying hard will pay off. The only negative I see is his refusal to look over papers before he grades them, just to make sure students are on the right track.
gives you the perfect review
I loved his class this semester, it was intersting, and he made it easy to study for tests. I'm taking him again next semester for History 1302.
This prof is nice BUT teaches you like you're at stanford. TOO hard to understand. his study guide for tests are way to broad. His essays are a KILLER. If you're looking to get a A in this class, FORGET ABOUT IT!
His exams are all multiple choice and has an essay that's graded pretty easily. He gives you a pretty good review, though it is pretty broad. You also have to turn in a 6 page paper. I had absolutely no interest in history what so ever but by the end of his class I was kind of getting into it. I'm definitely taking him next semester for 1302!
Took him online. There was nothing on his test that wasn't on his study guide, and his study guide isn't hard. Responded to my emails the same day, and very helpful. Write a short answer to each of the questions on the study guide, study those answers, and you will do good. Made an A.
Professor Addis makes history interesting and easy. He doesn't make you memorize dates and he gives you a study guide to help prepare for his exams. As long as you study you can pass. There is a paper, but it was easy and he grades fair/easy. I was really nervous about it and got a 100 on it. GREAT Class, I would take any class he teaches for sure!
Great professor. Review is what is on the test. One paper which is very easy, he tells you exactly what he expects. I am taking again in the Fall for 1302.
Excellent history teacher. His lectures are interesting and his explanations are very clear. If you follow his learning objectives, you will do great. He gives more than enough info. so that you can pass his class.
Very knowledgeable. Posts powerpoints ahead of time because he understands that its impossible to transcribe the projection and listen to the lecture simultaneously. Attendance and the textbook are Mandatory.PPTs are kept brief and vague so you must come to class/take notes to pass. Research paper is mandatory to pass but no presentations.Thank god
I don't recommend him if you want an A. I'm a straight A student. This class ruined my perfect GPA. His grading system is hard. He's a good professor, but his class is ridiculously hard for being history. I would spend days and days studying and preparing for exams, yet it still wasn't good enough. I do not recommend him.
I took the online course. It wasn't easy but if you study the review that he gives, you should be fine! He responds to emails quick so if you have questions, make sure to ask him!
He is a fantastic teacher. Made the material very interesting! But i am into American History. Make sure you print the outline of the notes and the review for the test. Listen to what he says by reading the book in sections, do the review, ask him questions and you;ll make an A! He is one of the greatest profs i've had. I would take him again.
I took his class online. He responds e-mails really quickly, which is very helpful. All questions in the tests are from his study guide, and once you figure out how to remember the main ideas or concepts from the guide - you'll be fine. English is my second language that made the process more challenging, but I still got an "A".
Genuinely a great teacher. Very easy to listen to and follow along with. He is organized, intelligent, and you can tell he is passionate about what he does. Wasn't interested in history when I began the course, and now I find myself wanting to know more. His tests aren't a breeze, but he does give a very thorough review. Definitely recommend.
Attend class everyday, print out PPT notes, do study guide and will do great on exam! Have essay on exam but if you prepare will do great! Excellent teacher would take him for Hist 1302
Good but difficult teacher. He is very organized and his lectures are very interesting. There are 3 tests and one research paper; he grades the research paper very harshly. There is a test review for the tests that covers what you learned in class. If you're an A student do not take this class. It seems like he does not like to give out A's.
A serious yet funny professor. He is very passionate about history and knows his stuff. Always willing to clarify. With that said, a very hard teacher, and nearly impossible to make an A. He does not use or teach from the text book, however you are required to read it in order to answer a portion of the tests. Can be annoying, yet recommended.
By far my favorite professor. The tests were all very easy IF you studied. given that he spells out exactly what is on the tests with study guides it takes only a few hours to fully comprehend what you will see. lectures were also very entertaining
Amazing professor, maybe the best at ACC. Passionate about the material, and you unquestionably will learn even though the class isn't very difficult. He wrote the textbook and pulls all his material straight out of it, so you get all the information compounded. Gives bonus points on tests, helpful and just an all around awesome professor.
Amazing professor. He is incredibly thorough in teaching the material and as long as you read the chapters and complete the learning objectives there is no reason not to make an A.
Great Professor. Would recommend for anyone, lectures are well laid out and easily understandable. I cant say enough good things about this professor. A must for anyone who needs to take history.
Don't buy the book. He has an online version instead. This class was pretty great. Probably my best teacher so far. You can't go wrong with Addis here.
Read ahead of time, and fill out the learning objectives as you go. If you study them before the test, you are guarenteed a good grade. I would recommend him to anyone!
The lecture itself is easy, and quite boring, but the tests can be tricky. Way too many "all of the above" and "none of the above" answer choices, which really throw you off because then you second guess yourself. He's a great pro though. Read chapter before class and again before tests. No essays, but a term paper.
The tests are tricky and have questions that are not in the review. You have to read and study the textbook. I almost made an A but made the mistake of relying on the review for one of the tests.
Did the DIL class, 1st half of summer. As a previous review stated, too many "all of the above"/ "none of the above" questions that made you second guess yourself. Textbook was online, think he wrote it himself. Very interesting take on history. The study guide is a bit of a throw-off. Could be more specific. Cool class overall!
He is very good at replying with email and stuff. If you are planing to take the class online "Study the textbook" and some of the review because not all question or topic are on the review. Make sure you understand the grading policy, but overall he is a great prof.
Read his book and answer the review questions and you will do great on quizzes and tests. He's awesome.
Addis focuses a LOT on grammar in his DB posts and five-page paper. He wrote the textbook, which is free online, and it is a bit biased but interesting. The 6 week online class is a ton of reading with a test each week. I wouldn't recommend his short semester because it's a huge workload, but his other classes might be great. DO THE STUDY GUIDES!!
Mr. Addis was great! His outline is very to the point and the class was not difficult if you did the work necessary. I really enjoyed his textbook as it was clear, short, and easy to navigate. I will definitely be taking another course taught by Mr. Addis in the future.
Class is an easy A, you have to write a paragraph every class but it helps boost your grade. The tests are easy if you study the questions he posts for each chapter and the paragraphs are always related to those questions. Easy grader. Always reply's quickly to emails. Final isn't comprehensive. Textbook is online. Overall I recommend him!!!
Very prompt with responding to emails. Course material is straight-forward. Write out answers for the Learning Objectives and you'll do fine.
I really recommend this professor. I took him for U.S. History and learned a lot about the 18th-19th century. It is obvious he is really passionate and educated when it comes to History. Class is straight forward..daily caps over assigned read chapter, 4 test total, and one research paper. Also, he provides free text = No book purchase = Save $ :)
VERY nice guy. Preaches a Liberal's version of history--the standard USA is mean, cruel, heartless (especially those Republicans). He wrote his own textbook & has it free online, so you save $$. For EACH class you read 15-20 pages & answer 5-10 questions. VERY easy stuff, but requires some time. Also gives a one question essay quiz EVERY class.
I took an eight week course with this teacher. The grading was based on very few assignments, and the content was so vast that is was really hard to try to achieve the level of analysis that his evaluations intended to grade. He is not flexible or compassionate about grammar, which is like a 3rd of your grade in the book report.
Took this history 1 class and highly recommend this teacher. Really laid-back and willing to help you. He has his own online free book so you don't need to buy a book. You write a short paragraph at the end of each class and it builds points.
textbook is online. Read chaps b4 class, each chap has questions (LO's) with them to answer. Every class you have to write a paragraph (CAP) that relates to the LO's. For tests study LO's. Overall he's a great teacher, organized & interesting. I had him for 1301 & 1302 and made A's both classs. 4 tests, 1 paper (3-5 pgs), CAP's every day = easy A
Dr. Addis goes above and beyond to make sure all of his students understand the subject material and essay requirements far before any assignments are due. He provides a great textbooks and review material making it much easier for all students to succeed.
Take this if you need a distance learning history course! Instructor created own textbook that treats historical topics without bias through reality-based lenses. Text content is memorable and enjoyable. Learning Objectives let you know what the test will cover. Instructor is a generous, easy-going grader of discussion board posts and book reviews.
This professor was great. As long as you read the chapters and fill out the study guide you should make A's on the exams. He is very direct about what he expects and I had no problems.
he is a tough grader. I do not reccommend to anyone.
Addis was one of the best professors I've taking, his lectures are very interesting, and he throws some nice jokes in there and is not afraid to call students out if they're being disruptive. His tests are straight forward if you read everything he tells you to, and the papers are easy if you work on them ahead of time. Also wrote his own textbook.
Because he wrote the textbook, it is free to you online (which is fantastic). Very prompt email responses whenever I had any questions. Learning objectives will completely prepare you for tests. Great experience for an online class, I like this professor even though I've never met him.
Very well organized. He is there for you when you need his help. Mr. Addis stays on topic and he makes class interesting. You wont be bored and you will pass the class as long as you show up, read the textbook online, do the 3 page paper, and make sure to study for the Tests. I would recommend him to anyone taking U.S. History 2.
Probably the best professor I've had at ACC. He wrote the textbook so it's online and free. All you have to do is read and do the learning objectives and you should be able to easily get an A. Go to class because he does these things called CAPs everyday. Simple paragraph about the chapter you read the night before. 1 essay.
Caddis has his own textbook for class which is easy to read and easier to understand- every class you read a chapter but it's not overwhelming. He is very passionate, kind, patient, and is focused most on the student and making sure you understand the material. He made history really fun and interesting. I would love to take any of his classes.
He is very fair and gave me full points on the papers, which helped balance out my test scores. I read at least half of the chapters twice, and answered his learning objectives in greater detail for each subsequent test, but I still had a very hard time with his subjective feeling multiple choice tests. Too many times multiple answers seemed right.
I took this 6-week, online class over the summer. 5 MC tests, book report for an AB, and a discussion post with follow up. Free online textbook that is updated with recent information and very interesting. Tests aren't too bad if you follow the learning objectives. Easy grader on the report and the discussion post. Can't complain about this class.
Read the chapters (it takes maybe twenty minutes every day) and study the Learning Objectives for each one (takes maybe 10 minutes), write a few sentences on it each class, pace yourself on your paper, ASK QUESTIONS, and you'll pass. Oh, free textbook and the "Final Exam" is only on the last few chapters. He does great with explaining the material.
Addis is a helpful professor of an easy course. There are 5 tests and one discussion with one long book review. The studying of the chapters for each test took me from 4-5 hours but the learning objectives matched the tests exactly. The textbook is online and free and written by Addis himself. This is an easy course overall, take it.
Learning objectiveskey to passing tests and getting the A Make sure you do your term paper early, and the learning objectives.
Caddis uses his own textbook- which chapters includes 10 short answer questions (CAPS), but these generally only take 30 min- a hour. If you study the CAPS, all exam questions are related to the CAPS, so you're practically ready for the exams. Has a good sense of humor, engaging, interesting lectures. little to no extra credit though, so study!
Professor Cameron Addis is by no doubt the best history professor at Acc. With intellectual lectures and deep knowledge on the subject at hand. However, his tests are difficult and with no little to no extra credit makes this course very challenging. DO NOT TAKE IF YOU WANT AN EASY A.
I disliked History but he made me appreciate in a whole new way. His textbook is superb, dynamic, and intriquing. I took an online 8 week so reading was extensive but given more time it would have been more laidback. If you want grow as an individual take this course. I made an A this last semester but I had to work for it.
This guy is ridiculous, don't take his six week class. He crams five tests into three weeks, you're reading 100 plus pages a day at it's worst. The textbook is 90% Wikipedia. The learning objectives don't help at all, and his test questions are pretty tricky. I don't know if his lecture classes are better, but either way I would say don't take it.
Took for 1301&1302. He wrote his own book, it's FREE- if you read the chapters, you'll do great on test. Only requires 1 paper and gives you months to write it (easy grader) Only have to show up once a week for CAP's(quiz that's EASY 100) Chances to retake/get extra points Do learning objectives at end of chapter-make an easy A! Great Professor!!!!
Online class, tests in testing center. Tests are over HIS perception of history, not history itself. The whole class is one big rhetorical analysis of history and is a huge joke. Not even sure how he gets away with teaching to be honest.
Easy to make a C, hard work for a B, near impossible to get an A. Tough grader on the book report.
He makes you read from his online textbook that he wrote himself that are extremely long. He provides learning objectives and questions that are hard to find the answers to. His test questions all have a choice of either "all of the above" or "none of the above". Pointless to come to lecture because you've already read the chapter at home.
DON'T take his class!!! I am a 4.0 student, and I almost fail his class. A lot of reading and the learning object is hard to find the answer. The test doesn't follow the learning object. If you take his class, you will hate this subject and reject why you have chosen him.
If you really want to learn history, take the class. If you want an easy A, don't. Way harder than expected. Passed with an A, but it took a ton of work and studying. Learning objectives helped, free textbook, good lectures. Hard tests. While I do have a great understanding of early american history now, hist 1301 shouldn't be so difficult.
Professor Addis is one of the best history professors at ACC. For the class: free online textbook that was written by him and learning objectives that go along with the text. The questions on the test are just like the learning objectives so make sure you do them. Four tests and an essay that is worth 60 points but he grades them fairly easy.
don't even plan on getting the grade you think you deserve on exams. doesn't matter how long you've studied and read his self written textbook, or how long you've searched for the correct Learing Obvective answers. with "None of the above" and "All of the above" on every question, Addis is begging you to barely pass. 1301 should never be this hard.
His weird interpretation on his self written book does not entirely follow with all of the learning objectives. He makes tests way too hard for 1301, wouldn't recommend nor would I take this class ever again. Overall bad experience.
Truly cares about what he is teaching. He wrote his own textbook and his personality really shines through with each assigned reading. If you do the reading you will pass the test - that's just the reality. Don't have to show up but he does offer extra points with scheduled little quizzes. Very understanding with papers. Only asks for your effort.
Amazing professor who is very passionate and knowledgeable. He wrote the textbook so it is free. You really need to read and pay attention to the chapters as there are little mini quizzes each class, but if you read/pay attention you will have no problem and learn a lot! Loved the way he does the text so much I took another class from him.
If Professor Addis ever turns his free online textbook into an actual hardcover, I'd buy it. He keeps it free and online so students don't have to pay but it be cool if he made some hardcovers for those who like tangible texts and who (like me) genuinely appreciate his work. I always refer back to it. One of the best profs. at ACC. Hands down.
Had online history, if you're just looking to get a C-, all you need to do is take the 5 exams and average a 70 on the exams. Study the learning objectives and you'll do fine on the exams.
Caddis was a great professor, He clearly presented and explain concepts and ideas that molded American History. If you put in the time you will get a good grade, I was lazy and earned a C as, I choose not to study but anyone can get an A in this class. Take advantage of utilizing the learning objectives. You will thank yourself when you get that A
Took professor Addis for 1301 and 1302. His lectures are engaging, the tests tend to have keywords from the learning objectives/textbook. Textbook is interesting to read. As long as you can quiz yourself over the learning objectives and know them, you'll have an easy A. He lays it all out for you. No trick questions which I liked. Textbook free.
This course is challenging but not impossible. His textbook is interesting and his lectures make the course engaging. A lot of reading, so not an easy A. He is very fair and also clear on his expectations. All around a valued professor.
The only negative thing I really have to say about Prof Addis is that his class could have definitely been taken online. All of his tests are clearly off of the learning objectives for each chapter which definitely require tons of reading, so do not take this class not expecting to read a lot! Besides that he's super nice and accessible whenever!
I enjoyed this class and I hate history. If you want to be confident on tests, read the textbook (it's free, he wrote it) and take good notes on the Learning Objectives, the questions are straight from those. Go to class and listen, he knows what he's talking about, clearly enjoys history, and elaborates on the learning objectives for the tests.
extremely intelligent, funny, caring, clear grading criteria, the textbook is online so one less you have to buy/rent! Definitely would take him again.
5 tests mult choice, a discuss board, & a book review. The discuss board & book review are easy A's if you do them thoroughly. Each test consists of 4-6 chapters which are extremely long . There are learning objectives to fill out that are similar to the tests, but tests are difficult. Only take online Addis if you have time to read & study.
Wouldn't recommend taking this class if you want a A. For the online class, you have to average an 87 on the exams and make a 100 on the book report and DB.
Impossible to get an A hardest test in the world however he grades the other stuff easy but the test are very long and detailed know every tiny bit of information
Test very hard I would not take proffessor again barely managed to pass the test
Free textbook!! Very likable professor, but it's a very difficult class if history isn't your best subject. His test questions are complex and specific, and can be pretty difficult to make an A. Notes during his lectures are not near enough to pass his tests. The only assignment besides reading outside of the class is an essay that's fairly easy.
One of my favorites, print out his questions and answer them during his lectures and the test will be verbatim. He is very open to talk to and grades fairly. Definitely worth taking his classes. Also, no book needed, he has his own material that is pretty cool
Professor Addis makes every class easy to follow. On the syllabus it tells you exactly when you will have a quiz and what chapter it will be over. You will have to read the textbook to do well on your test but he does assign a chapter per class and will go over that chapter as well. He makes the class fun and enjoyable. Really great professor!
Dr. Addis is an amazing professor, he makes things so interesting and I have never liked history before. Its interesting but challenging, the tests are very hard and it is hard to get an A. Requires tons of studying, but you will learn a lot.
Don't take this class if you are trying to get an A. I took this class online, maybe he is better in person. He is an easy grader on papers, but his tests are very hard to get an A on. The book (which is free because he wrote it) is hard to follow. The tests are on very small details. I don't recommend him for distance learning.
Test's are very hard so read thoroughly! Easy discussion boards and book report at the end. Wrote his own textbook so you didn't have to buy one. Overall a good class, I wouldn't recommend an 8 week class because of the workload
This class is not ideal if you dont have a lot of time on your hands (e.g you work full time to support yourself) the tests are full of all of the above and none of the above questions and if your terrible at those Types of questions then dont take it. Theres a lot of reading and I mean ALOT.
If I had 2 words to describe Professor Addis' class they would be "unnecessarily difficult." The study guide is extremely hard to follow, the chapters are too long and the lectures are boring. If you're a history buff, you'll probably enjoy it but if you're just here for the credit run as far as possible.
Prof. Addis is very intellectual and knows history. He opens your eyes and enlightens your mind. I've learned many things in this course and it has been a great experience. You are required to read a lot everyday, but if you are into history then this class is great. He is not selective and tries to teach you the facts.
Do the readings and really know the learning objective answers in depth. I found this class very rewarding. Put some effort into the research essay and you'll get a good grade on it. Great professor who relates history to the present, and does it pretty unbiasedly and looks at the pros and cons of all sides. Loved this class!
The professor doesn't teach, he gives you an online book he created and you're basically on your own from there. The one thing I like about his class is he gives learning objectives that go with the chapters and exams so you're not completely stuck. The professor also give chances to ask questions before he starts lecture and that's 4/5 slides avg.
He is a super genuine professor and you can really tell he loves what he does. He wrote the textbook himself and he ensures that he teaches history in a way that includes all perspectives which was really refreshing. If you hate reading textbooks, don't take him. I didn't mind and as long as you do the reading and engage in class, you will pass. :)
He loves what he does and I respect that. I did however found his tests pretty hard. He had learning objectives throughout the chapters of his textbook that was crucial for tests. He's a great teacher but he makes you work for a passing grade.
Good if youre going for affordability over quality. Free online textbook. However, its written by him, and is just as rambling and hard to follow as he is during lectures. The content itself is easy, but I got constant headaches just trying to parse his textbook, which clearly has not seen a professional editor. It also changes CONSTANTLY.
I took Hist- 1301 an 1302 and I would highly recommend this class. The (free) textbook is online and super accessible, using the learning objectives you go through the (5) units (about 4 chapt each) and take notes for the exam. The challenging part is the book report, but the book list is long and full of gems. Simple Tech needs and a caring Prof!
I'm not the best at history, but I believe this class is fairly easy. There is a lot of reading (20+ chapters), and 5 exams, as well as an optional essay to improve your grade. I believe the essay helped raise my score from a C to a B. The tests are easy but the questions are specific to the reading (as long as you analyze the LO, you'll be fine).
I took the 5-week Summer course. This consisted of 6 grades, 30 points each (5 tests and a discussion post). Some of the questions on the tests are tricky, but if you read the chapters and study hard then you should easily pass. He responds to his emails extremely quickly. No extra credit, unless you find a typo in his textbook.
So far I really like this class. He has a very concrete grading outline & the exam is based off the learning objectives that he gives. The answers are very easy to find if you read the chapters so there's really no excuse to not do well in this class. He sets you up to succeed you just have to put the effort.
-Each exam is over 4 chapters and one of the exams are over 6 chapters. -His test are HARD so if you like that sort of thing go ahead take this prof -About 50% of students get D and F each exam. -thanks for nothing
I just didn't appreciate the fact that the class is so airtight structurally. The lockdown camera browser stuff feels so invasive as well as none of the tests being open notes. His book, like others have said, is free but very incoherent at times and rambling. I agree with not taking this class remotely
I took 1302 and the class was very easy. You just read and answer the learning objectives and the test questions come directly from the L.O, its almost word for word. He even does supplemental lectures. History is my weakest subject and I still got an A. Its not hard its just a lot of reading.
This class doesn't have lectures. 5 exams which are each 30 questions multiple choice will determine your entire grade. You're allowed to do the exams anytime before the last class day, but studying is a pain. This prof wrote the book for this class. You have to read the entire thing to pass. It's long, convoluted, and hard to follow. Not worth it.
Nice guy but the textbook, which he created, is pretty tough to follow along with. Dont recommend. 5 grades the entire semester which are 5 tests. No extra credit.
Professor Addis teaches from a textbook he wrote himself, but I ended up finding it to be a very interesting read. Youll get an A in the class if you just read the chapters and complete the reviews. He was also quick to answer any questions I had. I would definitely recommend taking Professor Addis class without exception.
This was the hardest class ive taken so far and Im an A student. Halfway through it, I thought it was some sick joke. The textbook was incoherent at times but I really enjoyed it. The 5 tests that determine your grade, are structured in a way that is meant to trick or deceive your understanding of the material not the material itself. STAY AWAY
I took the distance learning and your final grade consists of only 5 test grades. There are no in-between assignments that get turned in, the learning objectives are comprehensive and the tests are more "who is this person?". You have about 2 weeks to read 5 chapters and take the test. He's willing to work with you when taking late tests.
The LO's are easy and the tests are essentially just those questions. Super easy and straightforward. There's only one discussion board essay, but it was a piece of cake, it's pretty much impossible to not get a 100% on it. Chapters are lengthy but it's a guaranteed A if you do the LO's. Great professor, answers emails fast. Definitely recommend!!
Took the 5-week async course and it was nowhere near as bad as some of these reviews make it out to be. CRAZY amt. of reading, sure, but exams were easy- just watch for trick questions and study hard first. Prof. himself is lenient on extensions + is a nice essay grader. You can tell he's passionate about history, which makes the course enjoyable.
So the textbook. Its something that if I had the choice, I would use it only to *supplement* the learning. He really makes many thought-provoking ideas and statements that keep you hooked. Its a great read. Its just a lot. It's a lot at once even with very generous deadlines ,as a 1301 student with very little prior-knowledge it gets confusing.
The online book he created and has you read from is really good. Its the first history book I have read that I feel like I learned something from. The class is mostly reading if you take it online with no real lecture, but I didn't mind bc the book does a good enough job.
Want a stress free experience in this online class? Read the textbook and study the learning objectives. The LOs are the roadmap to high scores on the tests. Watch the supplemental videos for each unit, but treat them as just that. Brush up on your writing skills for the discussion board posts. Put in the time for this class and you'll do well.
This test is a LOT of reading and memorization, but the content is interesting. As long as you study the Learning Objectives you'll be fine. Don't think you can coast without studying because you will definitely fail if that's the route you choose to take.
Professor Addis seems like a cool professor, and the textbook he wrote is genuinely interesting and fun to read. However, even after reading, studying the textbook, and practically memorizing his study guide, I found it very difficult to get an A in the class due to the way he writes his trick question-ridden exams.
Loved his textbook. There is a lot of reading, but you can use online text-to-voice applications to expedite the process. If you use the chapter LO's to study for each test, you will get an A. They are sometimes word-for-word the same as the test questions.
I want to warn anyone about to take a class taught by Cameron Addis; HIS TESTS ARE FULL OF TRICK QUESTIONS. It is nearly impossible to earn an A in this class, even while studying the learning objectives and reading the textbook. BEWARE
4 Tests over a textbook he wrote, but it is done very well. 1 paper over a topic of your choosing. If you need to take HIST1302, this is the professor to do it with. He gives you everything you need to succeed and is extremely available and understanding.
I cannot tell you enough to not take a class with this prof. Giant reading assignments every week from a textbook he wrote, that would take up huge chunks of time, each chapter 6k to 16k words. Grade based only on test scores, which are done through lockdown br. Horrible if you're taking other classes, are working part time, or want a social life.
Prof has written his textbook and it's very long. It's not a typical US history textbook as there are references to the current with the past. Grades are based on tests with the lockdown browser. The summer five-week course is very fast-paced and you need to read one chapter a day and give a test every week. The test questions and answers tricked.
Reading for 3+ hours every day, 6 assignments determine your overall grade, tests are relatively easy with many trick questions, do not take this class if you want an easy A
5 tests, 500-word discussion post + 250-word followup. LOTS of reading. Follow the LOs & read the test questions CAREFULLY. He wrote the textbook (online & free). It's engaging but spends paragraphs on his takes on the current political climate, lol. Also, it doesn't have citations, which I thought was weird. Answers emails fast & is understanding.
Huge readings, 1 chapter per day in the 5 week so not much time to fall behind. Exams are doable but specific, so study the LOs + read carefully. No LO answer key but there are decent unofficial quizlets and he makes video lectures for hardest ones. Good class overall, textbook is well written and prof is understanding + responds quickly to emails.
Guys, if you're going for an ACC 1302 prof., go for Dr. Addis. His online summer class has 5 tests (that all come from the Learning Objectives), and 1 discussion board post and follow-up. While taking notes, take them off of the LO's and the DB prompt is straightforward. It took me around 3-5 hours a day. Just manage your time well!
I took both Professor Addis' US History sections, and I thoroughly enjoyed them both. It was a lot of reading, but the book is engaging and the exams are easy if you read the book and follow the learning objectives. Great class and great professor.
I never got to hear a lecture from him, since it was online. All I did was read an intensely long textbook that he created himself. The textbook was engaging, though it is EXTREMELY long, and I had to read a chapter a day to keep up. Only one essay and he is a nice grader. The tests all made sense and were not hard at all.
This course was extremely difficult. Though I did take it without knowing I needed to take ENGL beforehand, I never made a passing grade on any of the exams. I also spent an excessive amount of time reading the textbook he created to fill in learning objectives. This class is based on one short essay and the rest are exams. Do not recommend!
Taking his 1302 class this semester. Loved the format of his class. He's fair and wants you to succeed.
Addis uses a textbook he wrote that is a little hard to read. It is a VERY reading heavy class. His tests are actually pretty easy if you have read the text. He grades papers fairly. My only complaint is there are NO makeups, NO extra credit and your entire grade is based off 250 points, making every single point count. It is HARD to make an A.
All 4 exams are pulled directly from the learning objectives from each chapter so as long as you keep up with those and listen in lecture you should do well. I managed to get a high B by doing just that and I only read the extensive textbook to answer the learning objectives. Professor Addis is fair and responds/grades quickly.
I loved Professor Addis for US History 1301 and 1302, he's very friendly and fun to talk to! The textbook is written by him (it's online and free), and it's very well-written and engaging. There are 4 multiple choice tests that aren't too difficult as long as you read the textbook, 1 research paper, and a handful of other small assignments.
Dude... Professor Addis is AMAZING!! Even though I took his online class, he gave great feedback and really wants you to pass. One piece of advice is to actually read the textbook (which he wrote) and take notes on the Learning Objectives (LOs). We take 5 exams that all come from the LOs. Plus, we had a essay but that was easy. Highly Recommend!
Professor Addis wrote his own textbook and though it starts out alright it increasingly begins to contain more extra commentary that makes reading tedious and difficult to understand. You could watch the lecture videos he created, though they didn't help me much. You get feedback and clear criteria for writing assignments though. Alright overall.
His online 5 week course consisted of 5 proctored exams, one essay and a follow up question for the essay. I had to read one chapter a day to keep up, which was around 50-70 google docs pages. Professor is very understanding and wants you to pass, tests are based off given LOs, exams are pulled straight from text but have many trick questions
Great professor. He wrote his own textbook which, while being a bit long-winded, is very fun to read even on its own. He covered every perspective of history - economic, political, industrial, socio-cultural, etc - and made sure to represent all sides fairly and evenly. Despite not getting an A I would absolutely take one of his courses again.
Professor Addis is a great instructor and I really enjoyed reading his textbook. His tests are a little challenging, but as long as you actively read the chapters you should do fine. He is a nice grader when it comes to his other assignments.
Took Prof. Addis over the summer in a 5-week course. Prof. Addis is very informative and a quick replier to emails whenever you have questions. As long as you keep up with the reading (about a chapter a day for me) and answer the LO's provided, it should be fairly easy to get a good grade.
Professor Addis wrote his own textbook which I actually enjoyed reading! I've never been good at history, but you can tell Addis is very passionate about what he teaches which makes the learning experience so much better. As long as you understand the learning objectives and ask questions about whatever you don't understand, you'll do great.
While the textbook in this class was very extensive and interesting, there was A LOT of information. Even when I had read the textbook and studied, I could still only do so well on the tests as there was just too much information to grasp. It was interesting to learn but hard to do well if you're not the best test-taker.
Lectures are not useful, notes have to all be taken from textbook. ridiculous amount of reading. test style is made to trick you, near impossible to pass. makes no effort to know students, hard to feel involved or encouraged. Boring class. feel like I learnt nothing. would not recommend to anyone.
Awful lectures, boring class. testing style and teaching style are not great. test designed to trick you, near impossible to pass. would not recommend to anyone. makes no effort to know his students, hard to feel motivated or engaged. feel like I learnt nothing whole semester. ridiculous amount of reading.
Read test questions carefully, lots of reading and note taking before each class
I took this course as an asynchronous course and it was amazing. he has his textbook he wrote/helped produced FREE online and the course is centered around it. Just do the work and it's an easy A. I did have to talk to him a few times over the course and he was nice and understanding.
(I took 1st 5 weeks over summer) Professor Addis wrote his own online & free textbook (so I didn't have to buy anything). Class 1302 consists of 22 chapters about 50+ pages per chapter. DO NOT procrastinate; there is a lot to read. The 5 tests are mostly tied to Learning Objectives in each chapter, so take notes! He also replies to emails quickly.
This class can be very easy if you read the textbook and do your learning objectives properly. Keep in mind it is a lot of reading, going up to 20k words per day on average in the second half of the course. If you read and put in the time it is possible to get an A. Professor Addis is very responsive to questions and wants you to succeed, just ask.
RUN!! This is not a good professor. He wrote his own book but its just his opinion and was VERY LONG. He says that the LOs help you with the test but in reality it was completely different. I studied for a while and failed the first test because the textbook didn't help. Also he does Lockdown browser with camera. NO NOTES ON EXAMS. DONT TAKE HIM!!
claims LOs helps with exams but its so difficult to study 6 chapters with so many different LOs and memorize different dates. also if no one knows an answer he will straight up say "maybe some of y'all aren't ready for college" which i think is a terrible thing to say to your students who paid money to attend your class. he's said this many times.
Addis' class is challenging but manageable with the right approach. The textbook he wrote is helpful, and focusing on the learning objectives is key. I found Unstuck ai to be a great supplement for studying.
Professor Addis utilizes his own, self-written textbook, which can be hard to follow sometimes. His lectures are lengthy and tedious. Most of the grades come from exams, with only a few written opportunities. The exams are very similar to the study guides he provides, but the questions are meant to trick you. Be prepared to read. A lot.
It was good that the exams are based solely on his written textbook. BUT, I spent more time reading on the LO chapters than doing all of my homework from other classes combined. The basis of your grade comes only from exams, so you might get a bad grade overall if you miss one. Plus, there's no extra credit.
The class consisted of proctored tests and an essay. I took the online course during the summer. He made is own text book, and as far as I can remember the tests were not open note. Fair grader as far as the essay. I think the tests were about once a week, but I took this class so long ago I'm not sure. There are probably easier professors.
I'm writing this the day I'm supposed to take the unit 4 exam. Honestly, this is a great online class, but I don't know how it would go over in-person. He's hands-off but will answer any question or musing you may have, as I have done many times. He got me really interested in History with all of his fun facts and structured LOs. Great class!
Great professor. Is super passionate about his job and genuinely wants students to succeed. The textbook is written by him, but is not very opinionated. All exam questions match the LO's. If you are a good studier and try hard, you'll be fine. Be ready to read though. Most chpt's were ~12k words. First time history was actually fun to learn!
Very easy course as long as you put in the time to read thoroughly. Exam questions are basically the LOs restated. Don't just skim the chapters because the exam questions can get pretty detailed. Essay has very clear criteria and he grades them fairly. Not a small time commitment, but an A is definitely doable. My class averaged an 89.
As long as you read, the class isn't bad at all. The teacher grades exactly how he says he does in the rubric, making it very easy to get 100 on essays/written assignments. Enjoyable class.
Most of the class is heavy reading which takes up a lot of time, but the textbook is comprehensive and articulate. Guidelines and essay instructions were clear and helpful. Test questions correspond with LO's. There are probably easier classes, but I found this one interesting and appreciate the professor's good feedback and dedication.
Lots of reading. The textbook is plentiful of information but i think it is a little difficult to understand for students taking this course for their core credits. I had a hard time understanding the lectures as well because he speaks in very complex vocabulary. Would recommend a different professor for this course
GET READY TO READDD. He wrote his own textbook. Lock in for the essay it actually brought up my grade (i took it over the summer) The first couple tests are very detail heavy
I really enjoyed taking professor Addis' class! His lectures are in depth and interesting. If you're willing to read and pay attention, you can easily make an A. He gives out multiple opportunities for extra credit.
Get ready to read a LOT and I really mean it. You won't have time to do basically anything during your day if you're analyzing the textbook and actually thoroughly reading it. Especially if you're taking the 5 week course, be prepared to read like you've never before. If you're a big reader and enjoy history, this course might be for you.
He's wonderful professor, whom you easily access in the office hours.
