Average teacher. Seems disorganized and doesn't explain very well. The material is easy enough, easy B.
Totally unclear, can't even solve his own math problems! Everyone in class seems confused.
He accomadted my hectic schedule. He teaches you exactly what he expects you to know on the test.
This guy has serious ADD. Fun class though, teaches what you need to know. Sometimes its hard to keep track. Easy B.
Not the brightest crayon in the box....you have a better chance of teaching HIM something!
Most disorganized teacher I've met. Ahlseimers already. But his test are ok. Easy class.
He is very funny, sincere and nice, but the exams were a bit difficult. If you wanna get A from his class, you should work hard on his class.!Acturally, i think sometime it depends on students! I learned pretty much math from your class. I got A!
Funny professor but very unorganized. Is absent quite a bit. Test are not too hard, but you pretty much have to teach yourself from the book. This professor only works part-time at CSULB and shows it by not caring what others think of the way he teaches.
Not bad for easy math
I'm still trying to figure out how my grade went from an A before the final to a C afterwards.
Easy going teacher and he's always late to class. So he always gave take home exams and quizes. Hee hee. But not a very good teacher. So if you actually want to learn dont take him, you have to learn the material on your own
I took this class Spring 2005 and am glad that I did. English did a great job with the class. Just keep up on the homework and don't be afraid to ask questions. He will help you with the material.
great teacher...teaches you math the way it should be taught...favorite teacher so far..take this guy dont let others fool you
It seemed like the only people who did well in this class had just taken pre-cal in High School or took the time to teach themselves from the book. Trying to follow or learn from his lectures/examples was a joke, he didn't prepare for any of the classes and usually just talked about politics.
the man is a moron and is very unorganized!!
this guy works well if you make it work well. he is a great teacher, and his exams are LONG, but he does a good job with test prep. i just wonder about his clothes, does he own just 1 pair of jeans?
This guy cares more about remodeling his home than teaching. His lectures are never prepared as he constantly gets stuck solving problem on board & tells the class that he'll try it at home first. But I shouldn't complain as I received an easy A eventhough I deserved a D. Obviously he grades extra easy.
This man does not know how to teach and test are very hard. He has this thing for homework called WEBWORK its the craziest idea ever he sets the due dates at 11:58 PM on sunday its the weirdest time to get it done. He does not care about his students. Whatever you do, do NOT take this class do NOT.
Hes pretty funny.... he tells u wat is gona be on the test and prepares you well for the test... BUT REMEBER!! to check ur test after he give it back.. the key is rite there!! dont be lazy :)he does make mistakes but hes willing to accept his mistakes!!
Comes off as friendly, but not very helpful...talks alot about his personal life and not great about helping the students out (can be mean if he thinks your wasting his time). WebWork sucks!
Only does examples, so I didn't grasp any of the concepts of the course. Never does grading on time, so you never know what your grade is in the class or how you're doing overall. Goes off on irrelevant tangents all the time. If you study a lot on the side, you might pass the class.
Mr. English is a nice guy. Pretty young. He tends to talk about his home life a lot. He will help students and tends to grade relatively easy. No homework. 4 tests. He does every example on the board which doesn't help much with learning the material so it may help to have a basic understanding coming into the class.
Math is not my forte; I struggle! He helped me each time I needed. One:one he was very good & clear. Thank you! I feel I'm finally comprehending. This is the type of teacher for me. I feel he is earnest in wanting to teach you.
I was a math major before i took this guys class. He scared me away. I took pre cal in highschool & got an A+, so i though that this would be a good review before taking harder stuff. I was so wrong. Doesn't teach during class time, just rambles about politics. Good thing he assigns tons of hours of homework... it's the only way you can learn.
He is a conceited teacher. He talks about himself and random stuff a lot. His teaching method sucks. However, if you go to his office hours, he is very VERY helpful. He is smart and can do math in an instant but is not a very good explainer. The book is your only hope to get an A
I actually enjoyed this class. The guy loves math and it shows... good teacher.
He was an okay teacher. He liked to talk about a lot of things including his car problems, family, and banks, etc. Since he enjoys talking about other things, he tends to rush through the actual lessons. Towards the end of the semester he started coming in late. He gives tests that are worth 110 points but he only makes it out of 100.
Great class and the Mr. English is good about answering questions that may seem basic. He runs an intersting class and I would recommend him.
I haven't taken my final yet, but overall I likedt his class. I am pretty sure I will be passing. He moves fast in class. If you go to see him in his office he is very helpful. He has made extra time to meet before finals.
The class was ok. He almost always came in late and he always seemed to be hurt. He doesn't do that great of a job of teaching so if you know the stuff ok prior to the class, you should be ok
I enjoy coming to class when he tell us stories and stuff. He present the material well enough where its like monkey see monkey do, but when its a word problem like convergent/divergent, then you better pay more attention. You have to show your work or else he deducts a whole bunch of points. He is a cool teacher though, I think he's a gangster :)
Reasonable expectations, fun class.
Really cool funny laid back teacher, especially when he start talking about other thing and get hook on it. LMAO. I didn't did anything in his class, except, study for the test for about 1-2 before the test start and put random answer on the online HW until it give me the correct answer. I was certain I fail the class but somehow I pass by .4% =D
Awesome Prof! Exams are tough, but If you go to class, study, and ask questions you will pass.Class goes by smoothly. He's funny.
If you are looking to learn about politics and football, then this is the class for you.
Nice guy! Presents the material clearly. Exams are a little tough but if you do the homework online you do fine. A little unorganized and takes long to return graded work. Overall good person and teacher.
basically what you expect from a math class, tests can be hard. can be unprepared but he is a great, fun, chill guy. he forgot to prepare for the first day because of his fantasy football draft lol
Easy class..well it is algebra. The teacher is disorganized, yes, but his tests are easy, and most of his test problems come straight from the practice exam. I would take him again for Math 119B. Math is not my forte but I got an A.
I really did not enjoy this class at all. He's always unprepared and always talks while we are taking our tests. I normally just leave his class after about 20-30 minutes. You're better off learning from the book.
This class wasn't so bad.. I was worried it would be difficult. Mr. English rocks... comes in for extra practices on the weekend.
He was always late. He never had things done by when he said they would be. He would often get on tangents making us behind, then teach something the day before the test and put it on the test. Im just glad I got my B and that I am done with him.
I would take this class again and am glad I didn't listen to the b.s. that other people said. Good class, and you can tell the guy appreciates math.
I agree with the person below me!! Mr. English is by far one of the best math teachers I ever took! I took him for the summer and even though the course had to move at a fast pace, he was very helpful and understandable. He was always on time and available for any help outside of class. So I really recommend him, and like any other class all you ne
Really funny sarcastic teacher. He's pretty legit and likes to tell his stories to the class. Pretty easy class.
He was always late. he never got things done when he said he would get them done. However, it was an easy class.
he takes a while to respond to emails too.
He takes a while to respond to emails. He always late to class. He doesn't have things done when he says its going to be done. He sometimes goes on and on about irrelevant things.
Understandable. Clear. Gets distracted a lot, but he'll get back to the lesson. Interesting person. Really, really lags with grading the tests/posting up reviews and solutions. Tests are made by the department, not him. Nevertheless, he taught pretty well and would always go an extra mile if a student didn't understand something. Take him!
Class was good. Take this dude if you can. You'll like it.
He is a very good professor, I would definately recommend him, but he has a few habits that really gets on some student's nerves. ie.never has tests graded when he says he will, gets distracted a lot, and is usually late for class.
He is a very good professor, I would definitely recommend him, but he sometimes goes off on tangents but it's entertaining and is relieving after a lecture on the material. Recommend this professor!
Funny guy and great teacher. Highly recommend to all students.
Hard subject, great professor. Will stop to answer questions as long as he stays with his set schedule. Does randomly tell stories but it can be a nice break from the tedious subject. STUDY and DO THE HOMEWORK. He doesn't give A's easily. Will drop your lowest test score and replace it with the grade you get on the final (if higher).
Mr. English was usually late to class. He was easily distracted with other things and would usually stop in the middle of lecture to tell a story or two of what's going on in his life. There was a quiz in every activity session so stay on top of your studies. Exams were ridiculous. I am grateful to have passed with his gracious curve at the end.
Take Calculus from this professor!! Believe me you won't regret it. If you do all of the homework without procrastinating and visit him during his office hours, you should easily obtain an A in his class. I'm not the brightest student when it comes to math yet I received an A. One thing I will say though is that he takes a while to grade tests.
Decent instruction and easy going. You must put in a moderate effort to get through because his exams are fairly tough and don't provide many "easy" points for total slackers. Lectures quickly, so write fast and try to keep up! Prepares you well for Calc II. Do the homework or you'll struggle.
3 midterms and 1 cumulative final. He lectures fast but clearly; talks a lot; helps students and answers their questions; and does NOT collect homework at all. But he also lagged; he spent the entire Valentine's Day talking about life stuff instead of lecturing; returned graded midterms later than he said. So if you want to take him, go for it.
Worst professor on the planet. Just talks about his family 24/7 beware he talks really fast. Doesn't teach at all
He is really sweet, but u might need to teach urself most of the material
talks really really fast, no set schedule he is all over the place, lecture notes are pretty much a copy/paste of the solution manual, okay person but definitely not a good teacher
200 WPM (words per minute), Never grades exams/quizzes til like a month later, hardly posts grades online, doesn't care if you attend the activity, comes late to class, awful grading system, exams are hard, no easy points, his syllabus is all WRONG/never been updated, and finally DON'T TAKE HIM unless you want C or a D on ur transcript
Don't recommend this guy unless you can teach your self the material. Goes off on tangents during lecture and talks fast. Grading system is confusing!! Gives back test after a loooong time. Take someone else for Calc 2!
Very helpful, lenient, dedicated professor. Can be a bit flaky with office hours. Lectures FAST. Only take him during your prime time, so if you aren't a morning person don't take him in the morning. He doesn't complete all of his examples so make sure to study hard on your own. Not an easy class, but reach out and he will help you.
Really fast lecturer, make sure to preview the lesson before hand so you can make better sense of what is happening in class. Incredibly helpful during activity if you have any questions. Make sure to study as this is calculus 2.
He can and will help you understand the material. His tests are straightforward, do the HW and you will understand the concepts on tests, no curve balls very lenient grader. He lectures quickly, goes off subject often but I found it entertaining most of the time. He's a nice guy down to earth and wants you to pass his class. I enjoyed his course.
Great Guy, Bad Professor. This guy lectures really fast and never explains the examples he uses. Gives out homework but never collects. Exams are hard and returns them 2 weeks later. He never explains what was wrong with your answers, he just marks them wrong. On the other hand, he is a generous grader and is always willing to help.
He was always there for you even though he goes off topic sometimes.
Very lenient grader and is always willing to help you. Tests are hard and assigns homework but never collects it. I got C on all my midterms but got a B in the class, so basically If you pass the tests, you will pass the class. Explains really fast, would not recommend him.
He's a cool, down to earth guy, and he knows his stuff. Has a tendency to talk really fast and also go off on tangents about movies andor his personal life. But still, I feel like he can take a tough subject like diff eq's and make it understandable.
I really liked him. He is the first math teacher that I have had that actually taught me how to apply the math to real world examples rather than just focusing on theory. The homework can be lengthy, as well as the exams. He grades pretty lenient though. Most importantly though, I learned a lot in his class. I recommend him!
4 Exams (inc mid & final, pretty easy). NO QUIZZES. HW is minimal, so u wont be spending long on problems for 1 section. He lectures at the speed of light. Doesnt turn back assignments or exams in a timely manner (usual turnaround 2 weeks & makes a lot of excuses as to why). Generous grader! Would recommend, makes subject understandable.
He's a good professor. Lectures fast and can go off topic but when it came to grading his exams he was an extremely generous grader. Gave partial credit like crazy. Helped our class out and gave us more time for exams when we needed it. Would take him again.
Lots of work to do. Webbasign sucks. Go to activity and ask questions. Exams are tough but similar to homework.
Clear presentation of material in class. Exams are like homeowrk. Come to class and do homework on time and you'll be fine.
Really awesome professor. Super laid back and wants all his students to pass! He rarely got off topic, so don't worry about that. As far as tests go, he curves A LOT. Basically what he does is take an entire question off each exam, giving about 5-10% extra for free on almost every test. Also, go to his office hours. They really help!
Typical math teacher. What you need to do is clear. Exams are hard. Math sucks, what are you gonna do
Easy test grader and tries to give you the most points possible on each exam. However, the lectures aren't the best and you will probably find yourself studying a lot on your own to make sure you pass.
Lots of work and deadlines. He will help you learn this stuff. I would take him for all my calc if i could.
Great prof. I learned a lot in this class. Learned a lot.
He makes his own exams and they suck and I wanted to minor in math but when I took this class I was like never mind. He doesnt give your exams back so when the final comes you have nothing to study on. He cant solve his own problems. Hes funny tho
I love Mr. English. He really wants you to learn. He gives clear steps on how to work problems. If you go to activity you will get lots of help.
Great Professor for hardworking and lazy students. He allows full paper front and back cheat sheet for all tests! You can skip lectures and just write practice problems on cheat sheet, you will probably get B or A doing this.
Prof English was a pretty awesome dude. Straightforward in what he wants as far as grading, tried to give you the most points possible even partial credit, and wants you to learn the material. Would take again.
Mr. English is awesome. The notes are useful for the test, and he really cares about his students. Also, his lectures basically turn into a stand up comedy skit, which is a plus. You get to make cheat sheets for the test, too. 8.5/10, I just wished he let us keep the exams or have access to them for future studying.
Let me be 100% straightforward about this: - He often gets off-topic and his train of thought is all over the place. A couple of times he has spent an entire 2 hours talking about his personal life instead of teaching. - From my experience w/ virtual classes, he rarely grades assignments, and rarely assigns assignments. - 3 midterms, 1 final
I'm sure if we had taken this class in-person things would've been different but he often got sidetracked and rambled for a good portion of each lecture. I found his videos and notes that he posted to BeachBoard were more helpful than the actual lecture. He also rarely grades assignments until the very end so beware of that. Chill professor though.
He's a great lecturer, I like that he recorded lectures and you could watch them at your own time. We used webassign for a signifcant portion of the class. What I disliked was he missed class a lot, and barely responds to his emails. Great guy, but very unorganized. Since everything was online, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
This professor was very good at explaining the material but he did tend to get distracted and talk about random stuff. Overall, he made the material easy to understand and was helpful when you reach out for help.
Professor English is a really great guy all around. He records every lecture and spends them going over many examples that are STRAIGHT out of your homework. He sometimes does ramble off on life related things, but the advice he gives is very useful. Three midterms, three WA quizzes, and a final, do WA problems for test practice and you do well.
The lectures are recorded which is nice. He has good examples that will help you with your web assign homework. If you do your best and don't slack off you will pass this class. Also don't be afraid to reach out for help if you don't understand anything. There are SYW's(2 problems on each),Webaasign HW, 4 tests (includes final), and 3 quizzes.
Professor English doesn't teach as much as he talks about his marriage, family or political beliefs. He goes off on tangents very often that can become hard to listen to when he gets controversial. He doesn't like his students to fail and doesn't give many assignments. You will definitely pass the class with little effort.
Great Professor! I have never had so much fun in a math class. He tends to go off-topic sometimes but makes up for it with his easy grading and good preparation. The exams were relatively easy because the homework was often harder than the exams. I strongly recommend Professor English for calc 2.
Professor English is the best professor to take for 123!! He cares for his students and wants his students to pass his class. He tends to go off topic a bit but his stories are hilarious, entertaining and full of great advice. The exams were relatively on the easy side, similar to the homework on web assign. I strongly recommend professor English.
Prof English is really funny and tends to go on lots of tangents, he gets off topic and wastes time, but when he's lecturing, it all makes a lot of sense. Just ask questions and he'll elaborate and do what he can to help. He usually lets you use cheat sheets on exams. Just communicate and do your homework and you'll do well!
To be completely honest, he tends to go off topic, can be very confusing when teaching new concepts, and can rush during his lectures. I mostly had to learn these concepts on my own just to barely pass his exams. However, probably the best professor to help you pass Calc 2. Just make sure you do the homework and fully understand what you're doing.
Prof. English always makes sure his students understand the material and overall understand how it feels like being a student, often times he does goes off topic but his lectures are really good! He usually makes his own questions for lectures which comes from the WAs homework which helps a lot, no quizzes either only midterms and final.
Best Choice for MATH123. He understands that many people struggles when it comes to calculus and both fast and slow learners equally tends enjoy and understand his lectures very much. Tends to go off-topic sometimes but those little talks eases the burden of the coursework. No quizzes, 3 Midterms, One Final, Attendance not Mandatory.
Chill prof BUT you don't learn from him, you have to go out of your way to learn the material if you really want to understand. I failed every exam and still passed with a B. You get a cheat sheet for exams. He goes on rants and forgets to teach all. Even went on a rant for the ENTIRE class period. Easy to pass but you don't learn.
This professor talks A LOT, not about the lecture but about random subjects. Sometimes he'd talk for the whole period without eve lecturing, then he'd assign long homework. His tests go over material that he did not teach or was primarily in webassign. His lectures do not make much sense. But he's nice, so I guess that gives him some points?
First off idk why he has a 3/5. He's nice, funny, and and easy class. His lectures can be messy at times and a little out of order so if you're taking his class to learn, it might be a little difficult buttt he does curve and if you put the time in you could definitely learn it well.
Professor English makes the material engaging, though he sometimes goes off on tangents. The lectures are worth attending, and the recorded videos and notes are also helpful. Unstuck ai and the textbook are great study aids. Overall, a solid choice for MATH123.
It's like he freestyles his lectures. He will begin a problem but halfway through, realize he doesn't know how to solve it. He often goes on tangents where he will talk about random things, like politics. One lecture, he was chatting for 40 minutes. His teaching is just yapping. 1 page as a cheat sheet for tests, hard tests, partial points though.
Talks so much but nothing he says is important to the lesson he is trying to teach. Covers the entire problem with his body and moves on very fast, giving you no time to see what he's writing and process what he's explaining. Dont even know what he's solving for half the time.
The lectures were mostly hard to understand especially when he has the tendency to speed up and keep moving. He allows a cheat sheet front and back during exams, and gives tons of partial credit on the exams, that's his version of curving the grade. The 3 midterms and final make up 3/4ths of your entire grade so make sure you study for those!
Can be a bit disorganized and may ramble at times but manages to teach the lessons effectively and allows for students to ask questions. Legend for Calc. 1, 2 and linear algebra!
He is a kind professor, but does talks about irrelevant stuff during class.
Very funny professor, but make sure to study and try to pass every midterm exam because the grading system can be off and if you think you did well on your homework and show your work, but failed every exam equals still getting a good grade like a B, I don't think so, because by the end of the semester, your grade will drop to a D or an F.
Super sweet guy and gives out free points on test, easy grader. I genuinely made up math on the final and passed it somehow. I didn't really learn from his teaching style tho tbh, but if you're understanding the hw and practice problems from textbook you'll do good, pretty easy class to pass. Most of ur grade is on tests but do NOT slack on hw/syw.
He's just a chill guy. Likes to ramble mid-lecture but is decent at teaching the material. He is very lenient on the few tests, but they still make up like 80% of your grade.
Very down-to-earth and approachable, but often goes off topic during lectures, which can make the material hard to follow. Tests make up a large portion of the grade, though cheat sheets are allowed. I found it difficult to gauge my progress in the course until the last week of the semester due to how grades were displayed in Canvas.
