The class isn't hard. At first it was a little confusing as she covered material rather quickly since she missed the first week of the semester (due to unforeseen circumstances) but overall if you put the work it's an easy A. Do the weekly quizzes, (she uses Sapling instead of connect), show up to class since in-class assignments are worth 15%.
Profesor Granados-Cifuentes is so sweet! Very passionate about her subjects. She has taken on many subjects with little help, and she has done an excellent job despite! She is very fair with grading, and willing to help. You just need to do your part (readings, quizzes). Gives plenty of extra credit and in-class activities, do not miss class!
Really knows her stuff. She is really nice and helpful. Its not hard at all to get an A. Gives a lot of extra credit points for exams. You MUST always attend class because , you won't be able to get extra points on your exam or be able to submit the in class activities which are sometimes annoying & hard. Could've finished with a 99 tbh.
The most difficult course ever offered at FIU. She writes her own exams. The material is more for graduate level students because it incorporates biological chemistry 1 and 2 as well as genetics. You have to read all on your own. The averages on the exams were always in the 60s. No curves. To get an A, you need a 95 in the class.
An easy A! A lot lot of reading but worth it if you want to ace the DAT and MCAT.
You have iclickers, online quizzes (lowest 2 are dropped), 4 exams (lowest are dropped), project progress report, and group project presentenation (easy). Certified A!
I fell in love with Molecular Biology. Dr. Cifuentes is an incredible professor. The exams are semi tough but she explained everything beautifully. Take this course with her. I wish we didn't have a group presentation because it's a lot of information that she covers for an exam. Hopefully a lab for this course opens up for the future.
Alot of memorization but the exams are incredibly easy. Take the course immediately. You will learn biochemistry in a different way.
So much work, you have to study like insanity. 30% of material from previous exam is on the next exam.
This is an insane class. Exams are cumulative at least 30% of the material, iclickers, online quizzes, and group presentation. She's the worst SO i don't know why there are good reviews when she's new.
This was the only class that gave me anxiety. She is terrible. knowledgeable but refuses to teach. she has 5 measly power point slides and the rest is hard assignments we need t do on our own for the rest of the class while she sits in the corner. she doesn't teach. have to read about 2 chapters before the class. She just doesn't teach at all.
To be honest, she is a nice person, but she lectures for 10 minutes and gives you very hard activities the rest of the time. The clickers are 30% of your grade and they are HARD!
This is one of my favorite classes I have ever taken. It has really reinforced my love for Biology. I don't understand the bad ratings because all her exams and quizzes are online sooooo?????? It doesn't get easier for an upper level course. Go to class for clicker questions and read. She is very accessible for questions. Will be taking her again.
This professor omg... where do I begin. Really bad lectures, reviews the opposite of what is on the test... she might as well not review and just tell use to read the whole book I would be happy with that but no she reviews and none of that is on the test... I passed but it was a horrible experience
Professor Granados is nice but it bothers me the first 2 minutes(literally 2 minutes. All semester) she spends briefly going over the chapter you are supposed to know before class as if you spent weeks reading it. Then the rest of the class she leaves it to her LAs and assignments. Tests online is an ups but it won't be on anything you do in class
EASY A! TAKE HER! All you need is an iClicker and a computer. Show up to class for attendance points and clicker questions (you can google and find on Chegg- guaranteed full points). Weekly online reading quizzes that you can google as well; and EXAMS ARE ONLINE (including the final)! No papers, no presentations, no excuses to not get an A!
Loved her, straight forward professor, be prepared for each class because you have iclickers every class and they are worth a lot . Exams are online and easy as long as you pay attention in class and study on your own. She does her best to help you pass the class with an A, just make sure you go to class every day.
Dr. Granados-Sifuentes looks to be very knowledgeable, however, she spends most of the time of her lectures doing iClickers or in-class activities instead of actually teaching which means you have to read and watch videos before class to be prepare for the questions. wish she spent more time teaching than doing activities.
Cannot teach. She's nice and she wants you to pass, but she doesn't know how to teach. She gives you extra credit because she makes the tests way too hard. The whole class is clicker questions and useless activities. Do not take her or your semester will be constant stress over a class that should be easy.
She employs "flipped classroom" style teaching which literally no one I spoke to ended up liking. You read the book and do classwork (clickers) in class. Tests and quizzes are online so they are basically open note. Most people stopped reading the book halfway throughout the semester. An annoying class that quickly becomes an afterthought.
It surprises me how much for granted people take a professor who is extremely knowledgeable and caring. Her clickers make the class engaging and her lectures are phenomenal. Take notes, pay attention, know how to interpret the book, record the lecture if you need to (key info will be in it), TRY & you'll get an A, and learn while you're at it!
Consists of iclicker questions and group work with those around you along with help from LAs. There is also online quizzes and exams. She doesn't lecture much in class, and isn't the best at teaching when she does. A nice lady though that drops 3 lowest quizzes and iclicker days. If you show up, pay attention and do well on quizzes you'll get an A.
This is a really good professor. She is really smart and very clear instructor. Her exams are not easy but they are online tests not proctored and it is all covered in class. Clicker questions are a big part of your grade so attendance is mandatory. She is a little sassy so beware! Make best friends with the LA's and it will make a huge difference.
I can honestly say that I don't usually rate professors, however, I felt the need to do in this case. Not a good professor, I would not recommend to anyone. If you want to feel like you are back in high school where there are no lectures and all one does is classwork and homework then this is for you. Basically, you have to teach yourself.
This professor has been one of the WORST professors I've had in my 3 years in FIU. She decided to change the curriculum COMPLETELY this semester so don't pick her if you think all her exams are going to be online (they're not). She told us "at least" one online and we only got ONE online. The final was 50 minutes long for 14 chapters worth of info.
DO NOT TAKE THIS WOMAN. Instead of being taught we played Jeopardy and Bingo as forms of "active learning" which didn't help WHATSOEVER. She obviously thinks her class is the only class we take in a semester because the amount of studying she expects us to do is unbelievable. You'd think that since she used to be a student she'd understand.
Professor Granados-Cifuentes has a different approach to learning. Those who complained about her class simply did not put up enough time into studying. If you read the chapter before class and take notes, you will be fine. People simply came into class expecting to give minimal effort and get an A and that's just laziness.
Had her for Genetics and Evolution & she doesn't teach. I go to her office hours to go thru an exam, when I have a Q she has another student in the same class to explain it to me. She is heavy when emailing her. You must email her with the upmost formality or she ignores. I try every time but nothing so I call her rude. Not approachable . Do-able A

So this professor tries a different approach to lecturing, she tries to do in -class activities to keep us engaged. But in reality, if you go to class, it is to learn. If you like teaching yourself, then this class will be for you, except that you still have to go to class because she grades heavily on participation. READ BOOK, only way to pass.
I have taken 2 classes with Professor Cifuentes and I can say that you definitely need to manage your time in order for you to succeed in the course. Her class is not easy, however, is doable if you read before class and reach out to her during her office hours to answer any questions you might have. Great professor who really cares about students
She gives lots of extra credit. Exams are tough. I performed better on the last exam where I studied the book in detail. All you need to perform well on the exams is read the book. Some questions from the assignments in class will show on exam. Make sure you go to class for participation. An A is doable if you go to class and read the book.
She is a great person who wants you to succeed and pass the class.. she curves exams, lectures little, online homework, all her tests are commulative however she helps with curves.. take her!
A great professor. Does active learning with a little bit of lecturing. My only critique is her tests are majority test banks straight from the textbook publisher so you MUST read the book and learn the definitions. Plus she gives extra credit on a curve so if someone has a test bank and makes 100, nobody gets extra credit.):
She is easy on the eyes but no walk in the park. She barely lectures, instead she teaches through clickers and group activities. Get in with a really good LA who knows their stuff cause they will be your lifeline. Exams are VERY HARD. Do all your hw, ace those quizzes and get those clickers/participation points cause you will need them. good luck.
Being an online upper level genetics class you're expected to read and teach yourself the material. She's very interactive on the discussion forum which is nice. Tests are pretty fair, first one is the only one you really need to watch out for. Read the book, take notes while reading, participate in the discussions, and study. Fairly easy A.
I have taken Prof. Granados for other classes; but she was completely different for evolution. Her lectures were amazing, very clear, and interesting. The tests were exactly from the material she covered in class, they were super easy. She really did her best to make sure everyone got an A in the class. I learned a lot from her in this class.
Idk how she was in previous semesters but this semester she taught this class so well. Content and info was very interesting, she posts her lectures online which you need to watch before class for quizzes and you are in groups doing worksheets during class. Exams are just like the quizzes and worksheets. Just do the work and try and youll do well.
Worksheets every single class, she does not lecture. Her LA's lecture more than she does. She posts videos for you to watch before class which would rule this class a blended course. She does not respond to emails, she will only respond to you to remind you of sending her emails during business hours, which is just rude.
You work in groups during lecture, Great video lectures before class. One quiz, One individual work sheet, one group work sheet per chapter (This is great for your final grade). 5 Exams, and online homework. I did terrible on my exams (73, 73, 77, 80, 90) but Pulled through at the end with an 87 due to all the other assignments. YES!!
Anyone who says this professor is not good clearly didnt try. She does lecture but not in class, you need to watch her lectures before class which is so good bc you can take notes at your own pace. You do work that reinforces the concepts in class with groups, and exams are literally the same questions on quizzes and worksheets. Great class & prof
Professor Granados Cifuentes is a great professor! the best from FIU!!! You need to work hard but that's life if you want to be a doctor. She is so inspirational, you will learn a lot. Thanks to professor Cifuentes I felt in love with Genetics.
She is AMAZING. Honestly the best prof I've had so far!! She makes you work for your grade but you learn so much. Read the book beforehand, there are pre-quizzes for every chapter and graded activities. Ask for help and be in a good group (essential)! Don't get discouraged by the 1st exam, the others are way easier...
I love this woman! Took her for genetics and evolution and got A's in both without much studying. Her lectures and her exams are the same thing, so if you go to class and pay attention her exams are not hard. Going to class and bringing your clicker is a good chunk of your grade, then discussions and occasional in class assignments.
It was an easy enough class. The only thing that was annoying were the discussions. Simply because 20 points are dependent on your replying to someone who comments on your discussion. If nobody comments or comments right before the discussion is due, you essentially get deducted 20 points despite putting in all of the work.
Literally the worst teacher I've had. Her class disappoints. Passes out worksheets every day for no credit, but does not bother to explain the answers. Doesn't lecture either. She just stands at the front of the class doing nothing while everyone struggles to learn from the LAs. If you plan on learning something take the class with another prof.
hard class. you only have 2 tests and have basically no time to finish them she doesnt lecture & she is very intimidating. LAs do all her work. uses video lectures from like 4 years ago & gives worksheets every class instead of teaching. LAs host office hours and youre encouraged to see them instead of the actual teacher. Very bad experience
AVOID. All all costs. Averages for exams are 60s but an A is a 90. She really doesnt care about the students. Doesnt actually teach. Have to watch old videos she made. She doesnt even do the solutions for the worksheets she gives out. Makes me very sad that professors like this actually exist. I wish she would actually care, she doesnt.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! Probably the worst professor I have ever taken. Attendance is mandatory and she will give you and F for your work that day if you leave class early. The best part is that she doesn't give you the answers to the worksheets or the concept checks in her videos. This class is run by LA's who don't alway have right answers.
Worst professor Ive ever had. I understand active learning encourages students to work in groups, but that is no excuse for the professor to sit back and NEVER teach. She hasnt taught a single lesson since the semester started. I feel horrible for the LAs who have to pick up her slack. The videos are reused from years back and lack information.
How the h&ll are you supposed to learn a material that nobody taught you?? If you want the answer, take this professor and youll be an expert by the end of the semester.

I understand that as adults, we are responsible to teach and learn the required material. I also think it is very disrespectful that we are paying for a class that is a very important step in our degree and we are not learnin any concepts . She does not teach and puts heavy pressure on the LAs that most of the time dont understand whats going on.
This professor does not intend to help her students succeed. She comes to class, never teaches and expects the LAs to teach instead of her. I took her because she was my only option. If you can take another professor, without any doubt take it.

I have an A in the class by now and I have worked hard for my grade but sincerely, I would not recommend this professor at all. If you can take another one, PLEASE DO SO. So disappointed about this class.

Her videos are a decade old that is posted on Canvas and she'll quiz you on those videos once a week. Save your sanity and do not take her. Every day I drive to that class with no seatbelt on. This professor has been the absolute worse professor I have taken, if you can even call her a professor. Her method of teaching is online videos of her reading off a ppt. You have to teach yourself and the LAs half of the time are not even helpful. She rather end the class 20 min in than stay and teach material. Lastly, she lacks compassion.
I took this class because I heard she was a good teacher. This couldnt be more wrong. She gives quizzes every Monday based off new content so you have to read the book/ watch her videos before class. SHE DOES NOT LECTURE/TEACH THE CONCEPTS. its easy to memorize the concepts but her tests are about application. Just dont do it.

This professor has to be one of the WORST professors that I have ever taken in all my time at FIU. She is uncaring, rude, and unhelpful. I have never learned or been taught during her class, she treats us all like children. All you do during the class time is a worksheet that you can just google the answers to.
I did NOT sign up for a hybrid course, I paid to be taught genetics in person if I wanted to take an online course I would have paid for one. The LA's are not that helpful, but it is NOT their job to teach the class. Also, do not even try to email her without calling her DR. because she will spend most of the email telling you how disrespectful u r
If you are good at teaching yourself and you have a lot of time to study for this class then you will be fine. I love Genetics, but taking this professor was a huge mistake. I am not doing so bad because I spend a lot of time studying. I may get a B. Pretty sad this situation.
RUN. Run FAR away! Everything others are saying are true. You teach YOURSELF, and you do NOT need to put in all of this work and stress for what is supposed to be an easy course. Go with Mathew Degenarro and you and your GPA will be much better off.

Professor Cienfuentes is a great professor in my opinion, her class differs from others since you have to come to class prepared by watching her videos, class activities are in group so if you are doing your work, asking the LAs and paying attention, you will be fine. Quizzes are based on videos and she offers tons of extra credit.
She has a hybrid section and a full lecture section which I took, yet we do the EXACT same thing as her hybrid. She never had an actual lecture in our class. If you are not a procrastinator and will spend 2 hours on the weekend watching her lectures and studying, then you can do it. The only reason I got an A was her extra credit opportunities.
If you dont like genetics and cant learn on ur own, DO NOT TAKE HER. All the material for her class is learned at home in assigned videos. Class is purely for group worksheets and there is no lecture. Quizzes every week with material from the 1hr long videos. If you dont watch the videos when assigned, you will fail the quizzes and also the tests
You will be disappointed if you like genetics, your passion for it will end with her. If you sit far from her you might not even get to know her face as she never stood up to lecture a thing.
Professor Cienfuentes is a great profesor at FIU. You need to watch her videos before class. There activities every week, quizzes are based on the videos. LAs are not really helpful. Tests are very heavy Do the worksheet and you will be more than fine. She gave a lot of extra credit.
WOw im confused as to how this teacher has a job. She does nothing and does not care at all about her students learning or doing well. Has super old video lectures online and thats the full extent of her efforts. LAs do everything even grading and writing tests honestly feel robbed being charged money for this class
Genetics is a tough class, but she cares about her students. We work with LAs and they are all very accessible outside of class. If students fail this class if because they don't work hard. She has many grading opportunities, not just exams. I don't understand why there are so many bad reviews, she is amazing. Very professor, I would take it!
The class itself can be pretty difficult but if you're upfront and honest with her, and you reach out when you need it she will definitely do her best to help you. The course itself was hard for me but I managed to get an A because of her help.
Her lectures are useless, she reads what is on the powerpoint and does not bother to further explain a concept in more detail. She gives you practice questions for exams but does not share with you the answers to those questions. Which completely defeats the purpose of preparing you for tests. If you take her, just be ready to learn on your own.
This professor does not lecture, you are expected to see the ppts, videos, read, etc to learn the material and then answer clicker questions and do a worksheet in class. I expected to be taught by a professor and I had to teach myself. This professor relies heavily on her LAs, but she's fair with her exams and grading. Answers questions you have.
When I took this class it was offered as a hybrid, this means that you do the learning on your own and during class you would work on assignments. I would suggest you only focus on her videos and the in class assignments for the exams. She is very nice and super understanding. She offered SO many extra credit opportunities that I was shookington.

As a person shes really sweet. She replies to emails super fast, gives make up exams sometimes and there are a lot of other assignments. but I can say her tests are EXTREMELY hard. If youre a super busy person I wouldnt recommend cause its a lot of material to memorize. Other than that shes great
A very kind professor. She is easy to reach out to and will respond quickly. ATTEND OFFICE HOURS!!! Especially with the LAs. They really help answer your questions on worksheets etc. If you care about the class she will care about you.
She is ridiculous. She assigns so much hw. Its the end of the semester, we have 2 exams left for this class, we have so many other exams left for our other classes, we have exam 3 and a final only 4 days apart. AND SHE ASSIGNED A DISCUSSION THAT REQUIRES SO MUCH WORK. So ridiculous, so insensitive and doesnt care about her students. Disgust.
The people that are leaving bad reviews clearly didn't apply themselves to the course. 3 exams, 1 final, weekly super easy saplings, 3 total easy discussions. She gives LOTSSSSS of extra credit! and attend your TA hours for help with exams. You will pass this class with an A if you apply yourself -from someone who does the bare minimum to pass.
The people who are in others business should think before they write a review. If you enjoyed the class, good for you. Other people have reasons and maybe other people dont work or dont have other responsibilities such as a family. This professor was NOT a good professor especially during the pandemic. Hardest tests ever.
Some people who are giving positive reviews have no idea what they are talking about. I did not try in her class and I got an 87. She gives way too much work its absolutely ridiculous. If youre taking 4-5 classes do not take her. Actually, do yourself a favor and dont even take her at all. Extra credit aside, taking her was not worth it.
Dont expect this class to be easy (like any other class at FIU). Good things take time and effort. However, she is super caring. She gives a lot of opportunities to jump up your grade. I would recommend her.
I have no idea why she has such a low rating. Out of all the professors I've had she's been the most understanding. She gives a crazy amount of extra credit and gave 2nd attempts to all of our exams. I work full time and I feel like it's a good class to take. No lockdown browser or proctorU for tests and open notes.
Professor Cifuentes is was AMAZING this semester! she provided TONS of extra credit opportunities, second attempts on exams, and lets you choose the date for you to take the exam. weekly homework had unlimited attempts (course was taken fully online). she provided PLENTY of videos and reading materials to prepare for quizzes/exams.
Quite literally the best Professor I have ever had in all of college. This woman is a saint. I find it so hard to comprehend why she has such bad reviews. She gives so much extra credit, is extremely flexible allows u two opportunities to take exams and even have us help on the final for completing surveys AND let us retake the final is we wanted.
I took professor Granados entirely online; there are playposit videos, reading quizzes/ homework done through achieve, and three exams. She gave us two attempts for all; she is very understanding regarding anything and cares about her students' passing. In addition, a ton of extra credit was offered. Best genetics professor ever!! Idk how this professor doesn't have a 5/5 rating. I took her Genetics and Evolution classes in person and they were amazing. Two of the few classes where I feel I actually learned instead of just memorize things for a test. Idk how her online classes are, but her in person lectures are amazing.
I took Dr. Cifuentes for Genetics, evolution and senior seminar. I can honestly say it got WAY easier going from genetics to senior seminar. Her classes are very DOABLE TRUST ME! Shes an amazing professor and definitely caring. Id take her again. *people writing negative stuff probably didnt study at all because its kind of too easy looking back.
She was a great professor... I took her for genetics online. Her rating on here doesnt reflect her at all. Class consists of playposits, hw and quizzes each week. 2 exams and a final proctored through canvas. One of the exams she allowed us to retake. Tons of extra credit. She did get tough on some students who cheated, but thats her job. Take her!
Prof. Cifuentes is what you make of her. I took her for genetics online and truly cannot complain. She is understanding and lenient but don't get caught cheating! She is very serious about this (obviously) and I witnessed many students pay the price because of it. Her test's are complicated due to wording but if you study you are sure to do great!
Genetics is not an easy class, but she makes it as stress-free as she can! 3 group projects and about 10 reading quizzes. She gives homework assignments but everything is open at all times so you can work at your own pace! She always answers emails and is very polite. I would take her for all my science classes if I could!!
I took this professor for an online course. You can tell she cares about her students and gives them the best feedback possible to ensure your understanding of the course. The professor and her LAs truly make the content digestible and easy to understand. There were no Zoom meetings or tests and all the homework assignments were online.

Bro take her. NO EXAMS. I took her online and once she said no exams, I was sold. You need to do escape rooms (3 in total) which is fairly easy and you answer each question and draw out each explanation, easy trust me. I really liked her LA's who were very helpful. I took her online which I don't regret. Yellowdig was easy too.
fellow pre med here .You have to watch the playpostits when it comes to her version of exams, other than that her class is easy unless you are lazy and don't do your work, easy assignments ,homework and show your work for a couple questions , take her ,she's super sweet too
This professor implemented projects rather than exams. The projects were overly complicated and she provided very vague instructions, and you're lucky if you get a sample paper for reference. She also insists that we handwrite work for our assignments, which makes it take 4 times longer than needed. Just makes us type it on Canvas at that point.
Adding onto the previous review, she gives pre-module assignments to gauge our knowledge of topics (which is fair). She gives T/F questions, but 95% of them are false. This course has made me feel as if everything I was taught in general bio was wrong. Why teach one way for gen bio when you're going to be corrected in upper divisions?
By far the worst professor, I've had. This is not due to the workload, but because of poorly written, vague instructions. "Dr." Cifuentes provides the worst feedback for example “not enough analysis” without stating specific examples making it very difficult to understand how to meet her standards. It seems that FIU lets anyone teach these days...
Dr. Cifuentes grades like she's spinning a wheel of fortune—no rubrics, no feedback, just chaos. I've taken her three times (no choice) and she refused to bump my grade by 0.08% despite my pleading. She teaches with zero care, and your GPA will suffer. If you can avoid her, do. If not, prepare for misery.
SUCH A TOUGHH GRADER. She'll drop a letter if you dont properly predict ur score for an assessment?? Oh and she deducts hella points if u miss one simple thing even if it wasn't necessary.
Such a grade Professor, and have good LA's that if you meet with them they would literally help you and basically give you the answers for escape rooms, you just have to put in a bit of work and not leave everything for last minute!!!!
Dr.Cifuentes is such an amazing professor. I don't know why she has gotten such bad reviews when she is honestly so good and cares so much about her students. She has multiple LA's that help out and her grading is 100% fair. You can't leave things last minute. Take her!!
Professor Granados-Cifuentes makes this genetics course manageable. The class has assignments, quizzes, and exams, but with her guidance and resources like Unstuck AI, you can ace it. She's super helpful and cares about student success.
Professor Granados was sweet & always answered emails. I took her class online so, we watched PlayPosits, did assignments & assessments (show work for 5 of the questions) on Achieve. There were 3 escape rooms which were 12-15 questions & work (diagrams, punnett squares, etc.) had to be shown for all. Granados & TAs were also easy graders.
Second class with this prof. & I can't recommend her enough! It's a breath of fresh air in the STEM world to have a class structured like her classes. The prof truly just wants us to grasp the content being provided to us. Take her!!
I am very surprised by the large amount of negative reviews. She is the best prof I've had as a Bio major. This is the second class i've taken with her and she is great. The class is structured so that you have to learn the content. Weekly show your work quizzes but they are not hard. The class takes some time but it is very enjoyable. 10/10
This course was extremely time consuming and exhausting for no reason. She wants everything handwritten to avoid the use of AI which is fair but her LA are extremely hard to work with. Her instructions are vague so that way they can deduct points. One of her LA said my handwriting was made with AI just cause I write in cursive which was ridiculous
