She had great interaction throughout the class. Helped to learn and make it easier and funnier to learn.
I happen to take this women's history class, because of the time in the evening. Ms Leonhardt was very helpful throughout the semester with providing us with lots of good notes and in very intricate detail. I left this class as a guy who developed a greater understanding and appreciation for the contributions to scoiety and the world that were mad
leonhardt seemed a little scary to me at first. very few assignments so what little you do have, along with midterm/final, are very weighted. after a little while, i realized that the class isn't too hard and she's very knowledgeable and wants you to succeed. make sure you keep up with the reading in order to pass the class.
I recommend this class to anyone who needs to take History. Ms.Leonhardt is an excellent instructor. Show up, participate, do the work, easy A. She is very fair and acknowledges your participation in class. I'd take another class from her if offered.
Prof Leonhardt wants all her students to succeed. She is very clear on lectures, has a great sense of humor, and gives you test material to go over before the tests are given. There are 3 multiple choice tests and 4 written. The only problem is you cant miss any tests or quizzes unless you have a medical excuse.
Professor Leonhardt class is as interesting as watching paint dry. No offense to her, but the subject matter is rather dull. While she tries to make the class participate, her topics don't really connect to modern ideas. Her class is not an easy A, and she never updates or gives out grades. In all honesty, avoid her (her lectures bore).
tried to get the class to participate often. Leonhardt had well organized and interesting lectures. I learned a lot from the class, although I feel this professor grades a little harshly/unfairly. wasn't very helpful, kind of rude at times actually
Not an easy A. Very precise and thorough. Lots of class participation & reading. Lose points for absence without med excuse. Tests are tricky. 1/2 the test points are from writing an in-class essay on 1 of 4 subjects (you won't know which 1) the other 1/2 is multiple choice with 2 crazy-similar choices & none/all of the above as the other 2. Arggh.
Her class is pretty easy, all you have to do is the reading. Her lectures are EXTREMELY boring though. She writes on the white board.. Grades are based off of 3 tests, and 2 papers, that's it. tests have 30 multiple choice questions based on lectures/readings and then an essay portion worth 30 points. the papers are easy and nothing to worry about.
I thought her lectures were interesting most of the time. However... She used to teach middle school and elementary school kids and she seems to still be in that frame of mind. One time the class got a little loud so she turned the lights off like we were a bunch of 3rd graders! She also sometimes gives people looks like she thinks they're stupid.
She is OK, but if you want to get a good grade please talk with her send emails, go to office. Show that you are interesting in her class. I didn't buy the books but I read them a lot in library. I got B, but many people in my class got C.
EXTREMELY boring!!! she talks to her students like to little children, she constantly walks up and down the rows to watch EVERY student... her class has unclear subject matters and assignments. NO SENSE OF HUMOR!!! VERY HARSH GRADER! Do Not Take Her Class!!!
AMAZING professor ! I have taken two of her history classes and would highly recommend to anyone. The classes are easy just listen to her lectures. The tests are multiple choice with one easy essay question. Mrs. Leonhardt ROCKSS!
Unclear assignment instructions. Opinions not welcome in papers, she docks points if you don't share the same opinion as her. If you like regergitating information, this is the class for you. It is an easy B because you dont have to read the book, but if you want an A, get ready to puke on your paper. Don't take her class, it will make you dumber.
She is a very kind professor. Always willing to help. However, the class does go a little side track. She lectures on and on and the class does tend to get boring. Her grading is not the best. Only way to get a good grade is her exams. No homework or quiz. Lots of reading! But you still learn a lot from her.
This professor has interesting information, however, she is rude and does not hesitate to talk down to you in class..I am a very serious student, this teacher does not communicate respectively with her students, or maybe it was just me,she grades harsh if she does not like you,I do NOT recommend her to anyone,HIGHLY DIRESPECTFUL!!
I really enjoyed her class! She is nice an was very understanding if I needed to miss a day because of a sick kid! Her tests were exactly like her study sheets and so I felt they were pretty easy! Best history class I have taken so far--much better than the last Prof I had!!
Can be condescending and rude. Treats the class like children. Treats anyone with a dissenting opinion from hers as "fair game" for ridicule. Easy A if you can stomach her politics...only took the class because it wiped out FOUR of my prerequisties.
Mostly a class for women, so expect about 6 girls for every 1 guy. The teacher can be funny at times, and is really passionate about women's history. When writing your papers, then #1 thing you must remember: KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE. You can either argue with her opinion, or get a good grade.
She is a really nice person with a great passion for what she does. I never used the books and I still got a B and that was without doing a major assignment. She can be a bit sarcastic and I can see how it might rub people the wrong way but I loved her personality and thought she was hilarious.
She is a great professor, it was very clear what she wanted and assignments were not hard. It was pretty interesting to me to learn about California history. It was also a very easy class, there was only about 8 assignments, and the tests are cut and dry as long as you memorize the short study guide.
Boring teacher. It's hard to remain interested during lecture. She does treat the class like children. Her end of year case study was unorganized and we weren't given a timed format so people had no idea if we could debate.
She is a great professor, very passionate about teaching. I don't like History, and had to work very hard to get a "B" in her class. A "B" is what I got, because I did not push myself enough for an "A".
She is a typical History teacher. The lectures are clear but she doesn't like to discuss anyone's views of history but her own. Never gives perfect scores on anything. If you write the best paper in the world, she will find a way to knock off 1 or 2 points. Not many points available so even 1 point makes a difference. Boring museum presentations.
Great teacher! Take her class if you want to know more about History.
Easy class, but the tests have two parts. One is multiple choice, the other an essay.
I don't normally like History but she made History fun. Her passion for it overflows to the whole classroom. Tests are multiple choice and essay, but if you understand the topics, you will do great! She also has study sessions before each exam that help tons!
TAKE PROFESSOR LEONHARDT !! Her lectures are very straight forward, and is a wealth of knowledge. Her class is straight forward from the moment she hands out the syllabus. BE WARNED, on each of the exams she expects you to write an in class essay which is stressful. She gives you 5 to prepare for. Two will appear on the exam, one in which you pick
Take this history teacher! She is very engaging and everything you need to know for exams are right in front of you. Few simple assignment and tests are easy. Multiple choice questions are pretty obvious and you are allows out-of-class time to prepare for her essay portion. Easy A for me, an average student.
Leonhardt does early and late california history as well as womens history. Shes a little boring to listen to during lectures. Id recomend her for any of the history classes. Her tests are definately on the easy side and shes an easy grader for the small papers she assigns. Very good choice for history classes
Professor L creates almost a critical thinking atmosphere approach to history. She is very open, and expects all her students to be engaged during in class lectures. I love professor Leonhardt for her bold teaching style. She may seem passive, but she is a beast. She is one of the best professors on ARC's campus!
Awesome professor, would definitely recommend.
I enjoyed Prof Leonhardt's class. There was a lot of reading and work to do, but no more than a college/transfer-level class should demand. She made the information interesting and I'm glad I took her for this class.
The best online class I've ever taken! There is a lot of work, she expects you to be very engaged on the discussion board but you actually learn something as opposed to all of my previous online classes. This online class is very time consuming but definitely worth it, highly recommend!
Prof Leonhardt is an awesome teacher. Overall her two CA history classes aren't that difficult and not that easy either. You will have to put in some effort to get an A but it is definitely doable! She is very nice and would def recommend her class!
theres a ton of reading and essays in her class as well as group work i wouldnt take her again
there is only 330 points in her class so each point is really important, lots of essays to write, I would not recommend
The reason I put 1 for easiness is because of her grading. Her assignments might not be as hard if you read the book, but she grades hard. Just when I thought I did perfect on paper, I get something back that is less than expected. Would not recommend.
Lectures don't add up with the readings. You do not discuss what you read in class and you will have quizzes which are all about the reading and little on what is discussed in class. Also the syllabus is like a puzzle the supposed calendar doesn't include important dates you have to go to each section to figure out when something is due.
The professor responds fast to emails and is always helpful. She gives an option to make up exams missed online in her office hour. Not a lot of homework, but time consuming. There is something every week that requires you are completing either lecture notes or reading guides every day so that you can answer correctly. Be ready to work for the A!
She gives out a decent amount of work, come to class to get points. There's 2 papers due, 1 midterm and 1 final & an oral presentation. She makes everything understandable and she gives out review guides for midterms & final. Interesting lectures & always willing to help you succeed! Will recommend :)
Good class with lots of interesting history thats not normally covered. If you don't have a good understanding of U.S. history this may be a little tricky to follow. The class covers a lot of time and can seem tuff, but follow the reading and pay attention in class.
If you want to pass, you have to check the handout before doing any of the reading. You thing your ahead for reading the book first; you're wrong. If something is dropped, don't think it will be. And the online quizzes . . . let's just say each question equals 1 min. There is no time to think and barley any time to read.
She is an awesome professor! She knows her stuff and very helpful if you have any questions. Lectures are not boring. Read ahead and you can participate in class. Multiple choice and written in class essay for midterm and final exam. She provides you study guides and essay options for the exams so you know what to expect. I highly recommend her!
Yeah, I didn't read any of the 40 page chapters throughout the semester, and I did fine. I only studied for the midterm and final, and for the two research papers. Honestly, as long as you show up and get participation and do decent on the 4 quizzes, you're good. Essays and exams are easy as long as you have a working brain.
CA history is so boring and SO much reading. Lectures are in word or pdf format, so even more reading. But she's great at feedback and really making people think about answers rather than memorizing dates and pointless facts.
She is a good professor. I learned a lot in her class, and would love to take the California History class from her sometime. Some writing, lots of reading, but if you show up and do the work you can get a good grade.
One of ARCs best history professors! Very passionate about history, and inspirational on the subject.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. Helpful, caring and considerate. Wants all of her students to get an A and does everything in her ability to make it possible. Lectures are important. Make sure you get the book and go to her study sessions. Be ready to do a group presentation (10 minutes) and write essays.
Going to class is important she normally lectures or will have graded class activities. I didn't read any chapters but did use the book to review for exams (I missed a few classes). Her exams are based on lectures and in class activities. Expect to write, 2 essay projects & 2 exams with a written essay. Sweet teacher. Lectures are good & engaging
exams are based mostly off of the reading. just make sure to review before exams and you should be fine although the text is pretty interesting to read. Group projects are pretty simple and straight forward. overall not that hard and is an interesting class.
One of the best profs I've had. She makes the material come to life. There's a good mix of learning tools. You'll have a couple papers, a presentation, in-class handouts, videos, and lectures. This class isn't easy, but everyone can succeed in this class. She respects her students and wants to hear what they have to say. It's hard not to love her.
Professor Leonhardt is a great history professor who absolutely knows her history. I took her this semester for Women's History 330 and I was blown away by her lectures because she rarely used a PowerPoint. She also makes it interesting with the documentaries. Lots of reading but no homework, some in class work, and one group project. She is great!
I've enjoyed both California Hist. and Women in American Hist. with her. She's a funny, helpful, and interesting professor. Grading criteria is clear, there are extra credit opportunities in classes, and participation is not required but she has several in-class activities throughout the semester which give points. The best history teacher.
Lectures can be dull at times because of the way she speaks but has a lot of information. Take good notes, all the info is on tests and quizzes. Tests (2) are easy, consist of 30ish mc and 1 essay. 4 easy quizzes. A few assignments and a presentation. Takes roll every class. I would recommend her for an easy class with a lot of interesting facts.
History of California. It should have been called "water history of California" all we talked about was water for the most part. It was so boring. Assignments are not clear. It was the worst class I have taken at ARC and I promise you will do yourself a favor if you don't pick this class. I PROMISE! Otherwise, enjoy sitting, reading, and listening.
This class involves a large amount of reading, the material can be dense so you definitely need to put in work outside of class. Her lectures are very based on the material and helpful. No homework, just a presentation and some tests. Very kind and can be humorous.
Professor, Leonhardt, is amazing! She is very inspirational, kind, caring, and understanding. She is there to help you learn and think deeper about the topic at hand. Warning there are a couple in-class essays and a lot of reading, but I learned a lot and enjoyed her class.
Loved this Women in Hist course. She's super funny and gives lots of information. Class is lecture heavy. Would definitely take her again.
California history, just like someone below said. Should of been the "water history of California." So boring. So dry. Going to class was a drag. The assignments are ridiculous. She gives zero feedback on assignments. She does care about what she's teaching. Unfortunately, what she is teaching is a bore. Worst class I took at ARC.
Offers extra credit. Directions are often unclear, talk with her directly and she's more than happy to help. This woman CARES about her subject, and it is wonderful to see. This course was an easy A if she felt you similarly cared about the topic.
She seems to care for her students. She made the lectures interesting, I got an A in the class and didn't read the textbook at all really. Just pay attention to her lectures and you should pass. Some group projects, two 3+ page essays. I would definitely take her again, responds to emails quickly.
Leonhardt's class was easy to pass. She helps by going over the quiz and exam questions so you know what to study. She seems passionate about history so her lectures aren't boring. There are a few projects and very little homework. Also, you don't need to read much. I would recommend reading the book some, but mostly stay focused on the lectures.
I absolutely loved taking the women's history class with Professor Leonhardt. She makes the lectures and discussions so engaging and interesting. I can honestly say that I loved the required reading as well as the few major assignments required in her class. This history class was such a different experience compared to other history classes!
She is very kind and caring. Engage in class and it will be much more interesting. Not very much homework just a quiz for every chapter.
She's an awesome professor. History is not one of my best subject, but she made this class so easy. As long as you follow through with the lectures in class and study the study sheet she gives out for every chapter then you will do just find in her class.
You can taste the professor's passion for women's history as you walk in the classroom. IDK about y'all but I did all the reading and found myself getting carried away in it. The lectures were very informative and the student presentations interesting, really helped me get my A.
For Womens History- Prof. Leonhardt showed incredible knowledge and passion about the subject. The quizzes after every few chapters are straight outta the book so you have to stay on top of the READING! Major group activities and a group presentation. Participate, extra credit offered, take notes, be prepared before taking each quiz. Easy A!
She is a great professor and very understanding during the pandemic. She gives many optional make-up assignments if you miss a week. She had one assignment and a chapter of reading a week.
She was a great prof. There is alot of reading that you need to do to succeed. Drops lowest content quiz (4 total) score (final is a content quiz). Drops lowest 3 out of 12 activities. Discussions, reflections, activity quizzes, and content quizzes. Does not post vid lectures, but sometimes a powerpoint. Answers are NOT online. Asynchronous
One of the best professors I've ever had. She's super caring and willing to work with her students amid the pandemic and personal struggles. She explicitly tells you how she grades, spells out the planned activities clearly, and is super communicative. You can tell how much she cares about her subject, and it makes learning so fun. Take her class!
A lot of work, and grades hard. Don't be fooled with all the good reviews. But, if you do take it the book is online. Prob would not recommend it, and there are practically no answers online so you really do have to read. it is well structured tho.
When reading all these reviews youd think this class is great. Thats what I thought at least. Theres SOOOO much reading. I mean at least like 50 pages of intense textbook reading. On top of the reading and slides, theres also usually an hour long video to watch and then the assignment. She luckily grades easily (if you understand the material).
Took this course during the pandemic, prof. Leonhardt allowed opportunities to submit make-up assignments. Graded 8/11 homework assignments & 3/4 quizzes allowing for lower scores to fall off. BE PREPARED to read every inch of the text, plus powerpoints & documentaries. She isn't kidding when she states an approx 9 hours dedicated to her course.
She gives a sheet at the beginning of the class on exactly what you should take notes on to pass the quizzes throughout the semester. As long as you are reading the assigned reading, and filling out the notes, her class is an easy A.
One of the few professors that care about their subject at ARC! I agree that we have to read a lot. But to be honest, what do you expect from a history class? Anyways, professor Leonhardt was very organized and a good grader. I loved taking her this semester. You will get a lot of extra credit. Easy A as long as you turn in your HW on time.
Class itself consisted of discussion, quizzes, reflection essays and tests. Be prepared to read a lot. The class itself is very time consuming. If you do your reading and can write essays, you will pass.
Very heavy time-consuming reading each week. Class is 85% reading 5% videos and 10% tests and essays. There is an essay/ Historical reflection or test every week. Clear expectations and grading rubric. Personally, the class was boring. Read, memorize, and regurgitate information. She gives great feedback on assignments.
The book can be found online for free if you look hard enough. Get ready to put in the work. Not much else to say. Do the work and you will pass.
Leonhardt is very organized and structured. Her grading and assignments are very straightforward. She allows a 24-hour grace period for emergencies. Even though the class was asynchronous, she kept in contact each week. She is the perfect online professor!
Lots of reading and the way she talks and types, along with using outdated information is absolutely mind numbing. Also is very much not tech savvy, many links are broken, and her format of canvas is a nightmare to navigate.
Personally,I believe for an online class, she's been a great professor. Canvas page well organized and up to date, she posts a schedule of what we're doing for whole semester. Lectures short, easy to understand & a video option too. Thorough in her grading feedback and accessible.Readings are not super long/difficult if you read a little at a time.
I learned a lot from this class and I would definitely take her again. It wasn't that hard as long as you do the work you should be good.
Every lecture video was pretty short, but she reads it to you instead of talking & explaining or engaging you. It's robotic and removed, and she said the citations; it's very weird. Chapters were lengthy, some assignments are easy, and sometimes there were group discussions that were required. She's okay, but not the type I would choose again.
I honestly loved this class,There is 1 assignment a week. It is the same 4 assignments on rotation; Activity quiz, group discussion, Historical reflection, and a content quiz. There's about 30 pgs a week to read but it is manageable if you read it in sections. I've never written more than 300 words for an assignment. Grading was very straightforward
Reviews are accurate the class is not difficult with one assignment a week, her grading is harsh on essays. She uses Turnitin to judge plagiarism but wants lengthy quotes even with citations your assignment will be flagged which is concerning.I am going to end with an A, regardless I am frustrated with the course and dread doing the work each week.
She made me rewrite an essay and redo a presentation, the topic was "women in Civil Rights Movement" and nowhere in the directions did it say that we couldn't write about Rosa Parks. She talked way too much and it's hard to take notes and catch up if you missed a day. I know about 5 people that dropped out during the first few weeks.
She seems like the kind of professor who doesn't care to improve themselves nor improve their teaching skills. Lectures are stagnant and boring, and she looks sad - everything you do not want in a history class. Her grading curve is the worse I've come across. She provides superficial feedback comments on homework. I wanted to like her but no.
Honestly, don't trust any of these reviews. This professor took a great deal of time out of their day to care for students way more than your average professor would. She is awesome, and caring, and she genuinely wants her students to learn. Amazing professor!
you'll do a bit of writing in this class but overall its very chill and you'll have lots of opportunities to make up work. the lectures are good and the book is provided.
Its a history class so ofc there is a lotttt of reading, historical source analyzing, and lectures/videos; but professor makes it very easy to stay organized and informed of expectations. There is no guessing if you follow the syllabus. She offers MUCH lenience on late work, she wants you to get the points. She also drops low scored assignments.
If you want a professor that cares about helping you succeed, you have come to the right woman. She is literally one of the best professors I've ever had. She is super kind and willing to help you with anything. She is really knowledgeable and her class is really interesting, it's hard not to do well under her guidance.
Professor Leonhardt is pretty cool. I took HIST 332. There is a lot of homework, reading, writing, quizzes but tons of extra credit opportunities. My only complaint is that the class is super woke.
took hist332, professor leonhardt was the sweetest professor i had, shes very understanding and wants the best for students. lectures are important make sure to take notes but they are very interesting. textbook is free on the ARC library if you dont have funds to buy it, assignments require reading but they arent too difficult. loved this class :)
