Seems tough but if you need help, you'll get it. Makes class amusing.
she rocked and her enthusiasm helped keep my attention. she is a teacher that i wanted to work hard for.
A challenging class, that was worth the effort. Professor Serchuk and Beals were very knowledgeable and made the subject matter come alive with their experiences.
Enthusiastic, fun, compassionate, and willing to help. She made the topics interesting and fun. I'm not an art history major but I'd take another class just because of her.

She talks so fast and her favorite word is uummmm. I can't stand her. But, She is very helpful and eager to have everyone learn.
talks really fast and too loud!!!
Great Teacher! Although i the class was really hard Serchuk made sure everyone in the class understood the subject matter! She knows her stuff...If you want to learn and put in the effort she is a GREAT teacher!!!!
so fun and funny. her personality makes the subject interesting. overall a good experience as i start my college career
Very Opinionated and elitist. Really makes it know that she went to Yale and wants to prove it to everyone else. Definately rubbed me the wrong way.
Here is the straight deal. Cell phones, plagiarism, and rudeness will turn her into the devil! Avoid that and do your work and she will teach you alot. Work load is significant and her expectations of her students is high.

i think she is an excellent teacher!
very loud. Writing in her class needs to be professional. she is helpful, but expects a lot from her students. teaches enthusiastically and wants others to understand dhe culture of art.
She is a very enthusiastic teacher, who likes her students to know a lot about art and sculptures. You get a basic syllabus, and if you read and study, you will do pretty decent in the class. But the class is pretty challenging, overall. But she is an extremely nice lady
art history is a tough class, serchuck makes things easier but work load is alot and if its not going to be your major the class is a waste of time
Shes nice but talks to friggin fast...cant take a damn note down!
OK- She IS intense but she's extremely smart and really helpful. She genuinely wants you to do well and even though the course was much harder than I had expected, I enjoyed taking it with her because she's really passionate about art. I learned a lot from her.
she is a phenominal teacher, knows her stuff inside and out! have not had a better professor that is so concerned with her students understanding the info...
She is extremely nice and helpful. She really wants everyone to understand, just go to lectures and study for her tests!!
Really awesome teacher. There's not really anything bad I could say about this woman. She was really clear about stuff, and was really into what she was teaching us.
when i first picked the class i thought it was going to be boring, well the lectures were but the labs werent that bad. shes really funny and went over what we learned in lecture. but at times she talks a little to fast so its hard to take notes

She is the rockin-est teacher out there. Anybody who says anything bad about her is a lazy S.O.B. There is no one else who can make a topic as interesting and who knows a whole bunch about stuff in general. Count yourself lucky if you've had this teach.

competent.
Professor Serchuk is the best Art Professor I have has since I have been at Southern. Each class mad me want to attend the next. No one else has shown a fraction of the love and respect she has for her profession. Thank you for your help and advice.
Wonderful
serchuk's the bomb....she is the sweetest, cutest an most amazing professor i've had yet, she talks a bit fast, but that's about it, she's very helpful, caring and extremly smart and into her field...

Professor Serchuk is a wonderful teacher. She made me a better student.
This professor is a doll, dont be fooled though because the class itself is difficult. There is a lot of reading, memorization, and studying involved. I highly reccomend taking it with her thought. She is so knowledgable and interested. She is always willing to help so don't hesitate to ask. She has a sense of humor as well.
A lot of reading but she makes it fun. She is very energetic and keeps you going. There were some really fun assignements too! She's a great teacher!~
Very nice professor...and really knows her stuff. If you want to do well on the lab tests or in lecture exams take her.
I'm taking my second Art History class and chose Prof. Serchuk for my session teacher. She does a superb job at clarifying the material and subject matter, which can be overwhelming. She's got an amazing sense of humor, and she's very intelligent. I highly recommend her as your section teacher for any Art History Class
Excellent teacher. Is real and to the point. Does whatever she cant to help out the entire class to grasp what is important. Is very approachable &easy to talk to. Is understanding & is a very fair grader. Simply speak up in her section & she will help in all ways possible to help you get it. it also helps in other classes on taking a better look.
it will behoove you to pay close attention.

Easy class, no homework just tests and a few quizes. Lectures can be pretty boring but that's what helps you on the test the most so just go. Prof. Serchuk is very nice and you shouldn't have any problems with her.
Hard class, but Dr. Serchuk is a great professor. She's enthusiastic and always willing to answer questions. She will go out of her way to help you if you show a little interest in the subject.
She is tough but a great teacher! If you take art history only take her...the other profs are less helpful.
This woman is horrible. She demands respect, but does not respect anyone's opinon but her own. She takes forever to hand back assignments and changes the syllabus almost weekly. AVOID.
I don't really have a problem with her teaching style other than the fact that she would never clearly define an assignment. F.E. when I asked her if we needed outside sources for a paper she said that we could write the paper based on our experiences and use some examples from the book. So I didn't and I got a C+ on a "well written paper"
ASk me what i learn and i learned nothing. She talks to fast and goes through things as if your suppose to know. Horrible professor.
I absolutely adore this woman--she is both an excellent teacher and a funny, intelligent person. Someone of her caliber could easily be condescending, but she is really down to earth and fun. She tells you exactly what you need to know to get an A on every exam. I really wanted to do well on everything so as not to disappoint her! Take her class!
she is definetly not easy but if you work hard and always attend she knows who you are and is willing to help you in whatever you need. the work load is what YALE students should receive its almost unbearable if you have other classes. be careful if you voice your opinion she may retort you with her sly intelligence. it sucks when she pops quizes
I love Professor Serchuk, but her Women in Art class is so hard! We have many readings but don't have time to go over them in class. The papers and writing assignments she gives are impossible. Good luck with her theory corse next semester...
She really, really loves her subject and gives very animated lectures... but it's boring. The exams are tough, but not impossible. While she's lecturing: don't drop anything, don't talk, don't let your cell phone ring, don't slam the door, don't drink anything... Just don't do anything. Very strict, can have a bit of an attitude.
Shes crazy, super strict, but engaging and energetic about art. Great wardrobe.
Good teacher, horrible person. You make the call.
Great Teacher overall. Her lectures have a tendency to be boring sometimes, but if you're willing to ask for help, she is always around to give extra help. Almost always available during her office hours. Extremely knowledgeable about art history in general.
Serchuk is a very good professor. She is very helpful when it comes to understanding the material. She can be a bit strict though, but it is not that bad.
This class was quite difficult and the readings were dense. Dr. Serchuk is a good teacher who loves art history and wants her students to understand it, but this course needed some images! It was all text-based with no chance to APPLY the theories we studied to actual works of art. The research project was OK, but she is a tough grader.
she is understanding and very helpful more so then any other professor ive come across at scsu. shes funny and entertaining as well which is a benefit to attending class. you should try to speak up !!!
Dont Buy Book!!!! Class is horrible unless your an art major. Very passionate prof. but if your not into naked greek sculptures she takes it personnally. I do not recomend
This professor is one of the worst prof i have had in a long time. I hated the class, it was BORING..i fell asleep most of the time dont take unless u interested in art sculptures..I wish i never took this class it was a huge mistake! Only take if it's your last choice i do not reccomend it.
Professor Serchuck is extremely passionate in her teachings and it is obvious to anyone that she is very educated in Art. Although she is a very tough grader, she is always there when you need help. I learned so much from Professor Serchuck and I am glad that could be part of such a great experience.
P. Serchuk is a great art history teacher she is very knowledgeable. However, if art history is not something you are interested in do not take this class. If it is... great class coincides with many history lessons. She is also very understanding and will work with you if you take the time talk to her outside of class. attendance mandatory!
Passionate and on-fire intellectually voracious and dramatic speaker who has extensive verbal gifts and performance talent. She tells you just what you need to know and won't waste your time. She is one in a million and the Art dept. doesn't deserve her-- she should be running the college.
This was a great professor for this class. You can tell she loves to talk about Art history...
Not a very good lecturer but she is very passionate about Art History. She is just not clear with some of the things she says and sometimes rambles on and I get bored as opposed to being interested in every word the other professor who lectured said... Other than that though she is great..
HARD CLASS. do NOT take it if you dont love art. very into her class but there is a ton of information to remember. the midterm and final are extremely hard. i should have taken theater instead. this class is so boring and not something i would recommend. you have to remember specific dates, periods, cultures, locations etc.
Dr. Serchuk is an exquisite human being. She is not only unusually erudite and passionate, but also an excellent lecturer. She is demanding of her students, yes, but her classes are incredibly rewarding. Thus, though I am not an Art History student, I am taking a class with her again this spring.
This professor made this class very interesting and made you want to learn the material. The lecture sections with her were very helpful because she gave advice on how to study for the exams and do your best.
One of the best SCSU professors, and one of most knowledgable individuals I have met. Anyone complaining it's too hard bc of memorization should go back to 1st grade...because that's art history, and thats life. She shows you the bigger picture of it all. She can be intimidating at times, but she knows how to drive you. Well worth the mon
She is so passionate and SO knowledgeable about her field. She can be spread thin with her commitments sometimes which can make her intimidating/short with you, but she is AMAZING as a professor and a mentor.
Dr. Serchuk so far has been the best professor i've had at SCSU. I've never been so it's easy to say taking her course was one of the main reasons i changed my major to art history. She's passionate, and if you do the work she likes you. i highly recommend not taking not only her course, but her classes.
Am I seriously the only one who thinks shes hot?
Definitely take Serchuk. She is super nice and wants to help her students. During our class meetings she TOLD US ANSWERS ON THE TESTS. She is super funny and willing to help you out. I had an issue with my paper and she gave me a huge extension plus told he how to go about writing it. I definitely recommend taking her. Made this class fun!
Brilliant, charming, highly ethical, with impeccable taste; she cares deeply about her work and her students. Without exaggeration, she is one of the finest people you will meet.
Professor Serchuk was incredible to have in Art 105. She was always willing to find time to meet with students. Her lectures are direct and VERY helpful towards exams. DO NOT MISS LECTURE, OR YOUR EXAM GRADE WILL SUFFER.
At first, I wasn't sure if I would be able to pass this class. But after the first test, I realized that it wasn't so bad. Prof Serchuk is very tough but she ultimately wants the best for her students. If you ask her for help, she will help you! She is a tough grader but if she sees that you are making an effort to improve she cuts some slack!
Overall, I learned a lot about medieval art, and came to really appreciate it. Dr. Serchuk can be a little difficult to deal with sometimes, though. She marked me absent several times when I had actually attended class, and I had to go through a lot to get her to admit her error and correct it. Aside from that, class discussions were a lot of fun.
Amazing! Professor Serchuck gives every person taking this course clear instructions on how he or she may succeed in this course. Serchuck is also very fair, good with responding to her emails, and makes this course interesting. Note: do not talk if she is talking-this really annoys her
Professor Serchuk wants you to succeed in her class. She has been instrumental in me doing well in this class. Her lectures are fun and interesting. She is a wonderful woman, and she is very passionate about what she teaches. Would absolutely recommend taking this class if you are even slightly interested in art or history.
great class with very good lecture slides. during the focus classes once a week, serchuk literally gave us the entire test, and told us what was going to be asked about each picture. gives you a chance to redo all assignments except tests, and has a lot of office hour time
She may be a good professor but her people skills could use a lot of work. She can be very rude at times and extremely hard to get along with. You take her class and you'll live to regret it.
Absolutely an amazing professor. She will do everything in her power to make sure her students pass her class. You do have to put in a lot of effort to study though, there is a lot of material. This class wasn't an easy A but it wasn't impossible either. Honestly start studying as soon as you get the syllabus.
One of the sweetest, most caring, and intelligent professors I've had at SCSU. She seemed rude and scattered the first day, but she throws back at you what you give her. If you listen, participate, and make an effort in all of your assignments, you will do great. Definitely go visit her office hours and always bring up dogs: she will love you.
She is the absolute worst professor I have ever had. Socially inept and boring too. Her personality can change on a dime. Extremely hard to get along with and scattered. Most frustrating teaching style I have ever encountered.
She's extremely rude and doesn't care about her students. If she has a problem with you, she will make the other teachers treat you poorly which is so wrong. She refuses to talk with any student outside of class. I have an A in the class only because when she lectures, I study without listening to her because she never gets to the point.
All I have to say about her is she is BRILLIANT. She teaches the students so much and I never had interest in art history until taking this class. She does expect a lot of every student, but does want you to do the best.
Serchuk is one of my favorite professors and PEOPLE at Southern. She makes class interesting. She inspired me to truly love and appreciate art! I learned so much. Can't believe some of these comments! She was always understanding, CARING, and helpful to ALL her students. I took her 3 semesters ago and I can STILL go to her for help on anything!
Very passionate but a very difficult to pass. Must know every detail for tests. Talks a lot during lectures.
Professor Serchuk is extremely passionate about the subjects she teaches. It was so wonderful learning from someone who loves their work. However, because she is so passionate, she is also tough. She does not miss a single detail. Those who want to do well really have to put in the effort.
If you are looking for an easy class till fill a frame this is not the one! I promise if you are not an ART major do not take this class. This is by far the most stressful class I have taken. She is a sweetheart but she grades really tough so every little thing you do wrong she will see and deduct points. Very hard to maintain a good grade.
She clearly is passionate but she makes things hard for no reason. She's very picky too when it comes to grading. I wouldn't recommend taking this class unless it is the absolute last option. With online classes, be ready to never meet, but rather listen to pre recorded power points.
Very picky with work/assignments. She is tough to please she seemed to almost never liked anything I did. Her personality is scattered she can change at the drop of a dime. Class itself can be a bit tricky as she gets VERY deep and in depth.
She posts all of the PowerPoints online if you end up needing them. Her class is easy if you are willing to put in the effort.
I took this class for a tier 2 credit because it is not in my major. I ended up really appreciating the subject though! She is passionate and this comes through in her lectures. There is one big project and a few quizzes so you will be doing a lot of work outside of class. If you are interested in art I would strongly recommend this class.
My therapist has heard about this professor.
Dr. Serchuk's class was uninteresting and she gives poor feedback.
Difficult professor who will become visibly upset when interrupted with questions; harsh grader; and visibly demonstrates preferential treatment for favorite students.
Taking the 5th.
Drop and transfer to another college.
Professor Serchuk has high expectations and can be tough to please. The class is challenging, with in-depth material and picky grading. However, going to lectures, studying hard, and using resources like Unstuck study can help you get through it.
I am shocked to see how many negative ratings Camille has. She is one of the best professors I have ever had at SCSU! She is so passionate about what she teaches and wants you to succeed. Camille is kind, understanding and approachable. The way she lectures is refreshing and easy to understand. I could go on and on, but RMP has a 350 character cap.
Difficult.
