YOU EITHER LIKE HER OR HATE HER. SHE TAKES A DICTATIVE APPROACH TO HER CLASSES. SHE KNOWS HER STUFF AND DOES A GREAT JOB TEACHING IT. SHE IS REALLI IN IT TO HELP THE STUDENT, COMES OFF STRICT BUT IS OVERALL FOR THE STUDENT... GREAT TEACHER... DON'T NEED TO BUY THE BOOK, I PASSED WITH AN AS WITHOUT IT..
She is a kinda difficult teacher, it took a while to get used to her. She talks in a really loud voice so it seems she is always yelling. Her first tests were pretty easy, but all of her written assignments were really hard, you had to have tons of details for her to count it.Do the extra credit if she gives it, you will need it for the last tests
The first 2 months of class were pretty easy, she actually lectured for the whole class period. She knows her stuff, but is disorganized, just throws info at you in a very unclear way. Talks a lot about irrelevant details that never end up on the test. The last 2 months of class she barley holds us, lectures for 15 minutes or shows a movie for 20.
OH MAN I hated this class. just an awful teacher. DONT TAKE HER!!! I reported her for being disrespectful to me, and basically calling me stupid! she is SOO unorganized, and it drove me nuts. she yells and makes no sense half the time...
This teacher is so terrible that she doesn't even follow her own syllabus. She says the test will be on a set number of chapters one week and then the week of the test tell that it's on other chapters. She has even skipped out on a lecture because a student pointed out that she was contradicting the book and then made us take the test immediately.
Shes tough, just make friends with her and realize that she just wants you to repeat exactly what she said in class in all the papers... don't get creative. Best way to pass is to just go with whatever she says and not worry about it. I do feel like I learned a few things. Overall the other people have fairly accurate opinions though.
Loud, blunt, and funny. She grabs your attention. The downfall, attendance is mandatory (it's part of your grade), but lots of extra credit opportunities. She knows her material, although she goes on lots of tangents. The book isn't necessary, write down what she says in lecture, and write that on your essays and memorize it for your scantron test
she talks a lot and most of what she says will not be on the test. she lectures in a way that is hard to keep up with. I also thought she was a bit disorganized. the one thing I liked about this class was that she gave us study guides-if u do those Ull pass
disorganized, constantly changing subjects with no clear reason or purpose. kind of grating voice and sort of scatterbrained.
I did not like this professor at all! She is so hyper and rambles off topic numerous times in a class. She is NOT clear in her instructions and acts as if she's everyone's friend. It took her 20 minutes to give the class a seating chart. DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HER CLASSES! You will regret it.
Miss Tomlin is a very energetic educator, but is unfortunately also very unorganized. You can tell teaching is her passion, but her craziness often leads her far off subject. She is very hard to follow, but I'd be lying if I said I haven't learned anything. As long as you are strong willed and dedicated, this class is as easy as it gets. Easy A+!
NOOOOOO..im an A student nd this class is hard!!!! unorganized and gives me a headache
Kinda loud, but trust me you won't leave the class without having learned something. Though for some reason that doesn't seem to matter to a lot to people these days:/
Clearly knows nothing about Andrew Jackson. Unless you write elementary level essays and copy/paste book material, you aren't getting an A. Very loud and obnoxious. Speech is nothing of a Teacher but of an illiterate. Ridiculous grading rules. If you comply with the high school education system, take her. Else don't.
She's a great person but her teaching skills are not so great. Unorganized, ask very detailed questions if ur confused or else you'll get a useless answer. READ the chapters ahead of time because she will ask you about them before she even teaches them. FUNNY. Inconsistent with rules. Always shows 15min movie after class ;D. Interesting class.
Tomlin, is a person full of energy to the point where it can get scary. The questions on the test & Quizzes can be a little confusing, because you never know what to expect. You're always guessing on what your going to get. Also on the test and quizzes the wording on the questions are soo confusing, READ THE WHOLE QUES.Only take her if there is REA
She doesn't even know what she wants herself.
She's very hard to follow and keep up with. She's very loud and has a chip on her shoulder and treats class like we are in 6th grade. Don't take her unless you have to. The only thing I like about her as a teacher is that she posts grades online quick, and she tries to communicate via online also (moodle).
Very easy! Didn't take final and still got a A+...all you have to do is not miss class and you'll be fine...reading textbook helps but mainly don't miss class! she is super crazy, loud and can seem like she's making fun of you but just grow a pair and stick with her she's really sweet and works with you if you dont turn in your work...loved her!
A really nice woman but not a great teacher. Had her for both history and ethnic studies. Her class is easy if history is a strong point for you. She has an odd method of grading essays as well as the way she words her questions for tests. Lots of extra credit oppurtunities and probaly 50% of class time is watching films. Always speaks very loudy.
She's very unorganized, loud, and rambles a lot. She skips over whatever she doesn't feel like talking about. (In my class, she skipped over WWII!) She was a substitute for my original teacher who had to leave near the end of the semester. I prefer my original teacher over her any day.
Ms Tomlin is very loud, kinda odd and her teaching style is very unorganized. She's pretty strict too. Do not take if you want to pass History.
Nice lady, terrible teacher! Her notes are all over the place, and she doesn't explain anything clearly. Don't take her class unless absolutely necessary.
Nice person, terrible teacher! Her notes are all over the place, and her directions are not clear AT ALL. Don't take this class unless you have to.
Super disorganized lectures. Really difficult to take notes. Test are imposible to get an A if you go based on her lecture. Not recommended.
Professor Tomlin is very nice and means well, however she is very unorganized. Her lecture notes are all over the place and so are her lectures. Used the study guide for the test and none of it was on the exam. I had to withdraw because she was so unclear and unorganized and there was no way I was going pass or have the tolerance to stay
Contradicts herself way too much.
What school did she graduate from? I want to go there. Worst processor i ever had, no kidding.
Easy fun class. do all your work show up to class and you should get an A. 4 quizes, couple timed writings which were pretty easy, extra credit assignments, 1 paper and an optional final, and you get to watch movies! Easiest class just don't argue with her, you WILL loose, she bout that life cuz,p.o.p hold it down!
She was terrible I would say a high school gym teacher could teach circles around her .( Very loud and disrespectful when you challenge her on anything about a question ) She goes off topic alot I passed by just reading the book and not taking notes terrible excuse of a teacher .
She is such a nice teacher, get on her good side and you will pass the class. However, you do have to have patience to do well in her class. She is pretty unclear about due dates, lecture notes are unorganized, she is just overall unorganized... However, she knows her history! She is fantastic, would take again, she is an easy A!
She gives alot of extra credit its not hard to pass , yes she may get loud but its a super easy A if u can tolerate her
The class was only for watching movies, turning in HW, & tests. The lecture notes helped some, but unless you study the book, you won't ace anything except for movie quizzes. The syllabus is prone to change. Assignment titles are a bit misleading. It's an easy A. But the A is mostly due to attendance and correct assignment format.
She is a good teacher but she gives you an assignment that is unfair. She gives you a in-class writing that is worth 15 points, it has to be 4-6 paragraphs, and you only get 20 minutes, with no notes. Her lectures are interesting but she is not very organized with her notes. She does give a lot of extra credit though.
She's too strick and docks major points for dumb little things like writing in pencil
She's helpful if you ask for it, the class is easy and you will learn something. I can't deny the fact that she is a little disorganized but she's progressed over the semester.
Do not take this professor!! You basically have to teach yourself. The test are tough and I feel like she doesn't even teach you anything. You have to read the book in order to pass because she will not teach you anything. There are 2 in class writings and one that's optional. 20 min timed. Grades hard on the essays and cant even ask her questions.
attendance is crucial 20% of grade, easy extra credit - take the points, you wont finish any movies i'll bet she has many more up her sleeve- totally eye opening Subject matter.... so glad to have taken this class and experienced this perspective. Beautiful, kind, and gracious woman, but will get loud if provoked. Inspired me far beyond the class
She was a good teacher. She can go into tangents with her lectures. Tests and quizzes are based off of class discussion and lectures. Also reading the book is good for when she doesn't cover a certain topic.
she is funny and loud but she should learn how to be more of a college professor and less of an middle school teacher. she won't let us have gum or take pics of the notes. her notes are disorganized. she is not understanding . most of the time she doesn't let you speak not even to ask questions . and when we do ask she gives back attitude.
Read the reviews on Professor Tomlin, not very accurate. She can be tough, but we're in college, act like it. Kinda no nonsense, but very funny, easy to get a hold of. Covers all of the material, and yes you need to read a little (remember we're in college). Would highly recommend her.
Professor Tomlin is extremely nice and caring, almost "mom" like. But she's super unorganized. Instructions aren't organized, and her needs from her students aren't clear. But interesting course work, and she really knows her stuff. She shows films throughout the semester. Tests are wierdly worded, but you'll eventually catch on to her teaching style.
Easy A, but I took her up on all extra credit she gave. Very energetic personality and will sometimes confuse you. Also will drop you if you have to many absences or if your points in class are to low to pass. I recommend her.
Professor Tomlin is the worst teacher i have ever had at COS. She is loud, does not know how to teach a class, and is extremely rude. She is a lazy teacher who wants you to teach yourself and if you ask questions there is never a clear answer. i would never take her if i knew better so here is some advice... DON"T shes setting you up to fail.
I'd overall say Tomlin is a good professor, her lectures are interesting, she cares and she's ready to provide feedback. Lots of extra credit. A bit disorganized and the tests are weirdly specific sometimes especially true/false sections. Must read the book. I gave her an outline of an essay ahead of time and her feedback secured me an A.
You take lots of notes during lecture. She is funny, but loud. She also hands out extra credit like its candy. The work is not hard at all she gives you all the information you need. Gives practice quizzes before exams.
Took ProfTomlin during the summer. These reviews are too harsh. She gives extra credit to make up for how hard the material is. Reviews what will be on the test and will make the students create questions that will be on the test. Shows enjoying movies. In the simple form just show up to class, take extra credit, study a little, listen to lectures
One of my favorite professors!! Easy A as long as you do all your work. I didnt pass every exam with flying colors and I failed the essays she gave out and I still passed with an A. Shes honestly really nice and she really cares about her students.
Professor Tomlin was very nice but was FAR TOO UNORGANIZED for me to follow what was going on, including on canvas. I liked her lectures but the notes were terribly unorganized. She played music SO LOUD I couldn't think & her normal speaking voice was more like a yell. I couldn't stand it. I am normally an A student & failed the first 2 quizzes.
Professor Tomlin is an okay professor. Her lecture notes arent very clear and she brushes through some chapters. Wouldnt take her again, but at least She gives lots of extra credit opportunities.
HIST017 with Camille Tomlin was incredibly stressful. The course was unregulated, unpredictable, and overall a mess. Her lectures were disorganized. Her grading rubric lacked consistency. Extra credit is passed out like candy. I retained virtually nothing from this course yet still managed to receive over 100%.
Professor Tomlin is a gem. She can be a little unorthodox at times but she is a great teacher nonetheless. She cares about her students success and wants to see them do good. What you put into the class is what you will get out of it. She can be a tough at times but only to make you a better student. If you take her you wont be disappointed.
This class was super easy for me, but she was a horrible teacher. She is very knowledgeable but is so unorganized and annoying. She couldn't figure out how to use Clicker Reef so we only used it for attendance, and had to pay $14 for it. In our class, there were 4 exams, 2 papers (one in class and one typed up), and weekly quizzes (some pop).
A VERY great teacher but a bit unorganized, YET she give so much extra credit and will work with students. She like a mom figure, supportive
Tomlin is unorganized and her notes are all over the place. But, her class is sooo easy. I would take her again, but if youre a history major, Id maybe take another one. I feel like I didn't really learn much. We did 2 papers.
I loved this woman. She's a bit disorganized but she really cares and wants students to do well. She'll go out of her way to help you if you need it.
She makes history interesting to actually learn. You will enjoy and learn in this class.
Professor Tomlin was such an easy professor. I took her online and it was an easy A. Her exams are take home and theres an assignment every week.
Tomlin is very sweet; take her class if you want the easy A for general ed. You have to buy the textbook in order to do the homework. It comes with iClicker, which you need to get participation credit in class. Only wrote two essays, that were very short. The tests were also open textbook and open note so very very very easy.
Great teacher who is funny and enjoys her job. Explains things very well with a lot emotion. Things might seem unorganized at first but it gets easy.
I had Tomlin in the Fall of 2021; she is one of the easiest professors I've had by far. She is goofy and nice. Her lectures can be a little unorganized, however. I would recommend her, her class is easy, especially since she is not strict.
Tomlin is very unorganized. She is rude, if you try to ask her a question she will talk down on you and it will make you feel dumb. She never understands what a student is asking so she never answers questions properly. Her teaching methods are terrible. You can pass the class as long as you study the book and teach yourself but not her notes!
History 18 was a bit unorganized but overall easy if you follow the study guides and look at the documents provided on canvas. Attendance is counted and does matter when it comes to understanding the lesson and material.
Shes really sweet, it's a lot of work for an online class though.
Tomlin is an amazing teacher! She is loud and proud, she is willing to go the extra mile to make sure you understand what you are being taught. The work load is easy and manageable, she offers lots of extra credit as well. I highly recommend her for anyone who wants to make history a fun class to be apart of!
She is a bit unorganized, but she grades with a point system!!! Really easy class overall
Every Friday there is a mini quiz you do by yourself easy. There should not be a reason why you fail this class unless life happen. The extra credit will carry your grade. The one things is the take out homework is her version of Chicago style go to writing center so they can help and tell them how she wants it.
There are a few exams you have to do; they're all pretty easy. She gives a lot of extra credit, which is cool. There are a few group-related activities you have to do. Her lectures aren't all that great (mostly small bullet points that lack specificity), but they're fairly easy to understand. We only had one mandatory paper. She's a bit loud.
Yall straight hating shes the funniest and silliest prof ever I loved her class. A mini quiz every friday online but u can use the textbook so easy and she gives extra credit. Her lectures are lectures but she makes them silly. She blasts 80s music before class. Just loved her. You gotta get used to her abbreviations when taking notes though.10/10
Ms. Tomlin means well. She doesn't ask too much, but my suggestion is to take all learning curve quizzes with the free trial early, so you sent need to do them later. It is mostly very easy, just study and you'll be good. She is very loud so sit in the back if you have a problem with that. Otherwise this was a good easy class.
Her lectures were a bit all over the place but you get the gist of it just by listening to her. If you ever have questions ask her or email her. Lots of extra credit so take advantage of that. She's also very picky on the questions so be detailed. If its true or false questions, its usually false. Make sure to show up to class its important.
She means well, she is very nice but her teaching style is all over the place and you will need to read the textbook on your own because she doesn't cover a lot of it during lectures and you will need to do weekly quizzes that aren't hard they are online, and she does give a lot of extra credit take advantage
I was nervous about taking Professor Tomlin's class, but it wasn't that difficult. The main things that will help you succeed are memorizing dates, taking good notes, and showing up to class because she grades on attendance. Overall, I did like her class because it was a little challenging at times, but it made me pay attention.
Her canvas is unorganized if that bothers you, there are 4 exams, 2 papers, 2 pop quizzes, a weekly assignment, and attendance is graded but she does offer a lot of extra credit and you don't really have to pay attention to the lectures.
Amazing teacher! Teaches amazing took her my sophomore year of Highschool and would 100% take her again for other subjects. Very funny and grades as is. Not tough just show up and do your work.
She is very unorganized and lectures are hard to understand at times. If you don't do well with timed, no-note essays, this class is not for you. She treats many of her students like they are dumb high school students. You can give her an answer from her lecture and she will say it's wrong. The one good thing is she offers many EC opportunities.
If you prefer professors who are well organized, do not take her!!! I dropped her class because from the very beginning she was all over the place. She was also annoyingly LOUD. Also, she acted as if she was teaching elementary/hs kids. She had things like "no gum or restroom breaks" rules in her 'behavior contract' if I remember correctly.
Very unorganized. Always interrupts students and treats them like kids. Difficult to communicate with outside of class. Doesn't answer students' questions in ways that are helpful. Lectures are unhelpful and unreliable. One of the worst teachers I've had at COS. Only reason I stayed is for all the extra credit she gives.
Completely unprofessional professor. Her exams are very obviously written by students and the written exam is ridiculous. She times you per short answer during the exam. She does not give disabled students accessibility to the testing center during tests. Lectures don't make any sense because they're just pictures. 0/10 if I could.
This professor was probably one of the most unorganized teachers I've had so far at COS. It is really hard to follow along with her and understand the information she gives. Attendance is mandatory and a BIG part of your grade. She treats her students like they are in middle school as she doesn't allow you to chew gum and yells at her students.
Her lectures are not too detailed but pretty straightforward. Attendance is necessary because she begins to drop your grade after some time. She offers a lot of extra credit which is easy. I just did what she told us to and I have over 100% right now. Look for the practice tests in modules because she takes a lot of questions from them!!
Tomlin is a really straight forward professor. She is clear about what she expects. I took her over the summer, and her grading was fairly easy. She gave out a lot of extra credit, which was mainly from watching movies and answering questions. She loves to be interactive with her classes and will keep you awake.
As a person who hated history she made me love it now, her lectures are really informative with a lot of detail just take a lot of notes during lecture etc, study and do extra credit and bonus questions and you'll be fine. keep in mind I took this class in the summer shes a really great professor and caring and gives access to the kids with AAC.
Extremely unorganized with her slides and would often talk Politics. She was extremely bad at teaching and you had to go out of your way to learn the curriculum as she was no help.Never responded to any emails no matter what time you had emailed her or how urgent it was.Quizzes were very obvious it was created by the students in class.
Professor Tomlin is an excellent professor. Expect to do work when taking the fast-paced summer course. She's available for help if you ask. Pay attention during lectures and take notes on key points. Reading is essential. Put in the effort, and you'll pass.
Terrible professor, unprofessional, rude, impossible to follow, do not recommend. Her classes are mandatory but you will end up teaching yourself the entire class due to her lazy/unreadable slides. Is nicer to the boys than the girls in class, intentionally singles people out to embarrass. Waste of time in class on stupid questions. Do not take.
