Pay attention & take lots of notes. She does not give anything away. Very smart, very helpful, very approachable. She won't use power point and lectures are old fashioned (she talks & you write - quickly!)
Really good at summarizing the material and getting to the important stuff. Tests from notes, which is great because there is way too much in the book. I would not miss class and take good notes. She is more than fair with her tests and grading, but expect to learn something if you want a good grade.
I wouldn't buy the book even though she tells you to - the tests are right from her notes. The material itself means lots of memorization and keeping things straight, but she is not a hard teacher. She wants her students to do well. Make sure you go to class and take good notes and you'll be fine.
I think that she is very nice, but scattered throughout the entrie semester. She gets off topic realy easy.Just read and stoper her when she does got off topic.Get to know her and dont piss her off.
Great teacher. The material can be tough, and it's alot to learn, but she is clear and if you know the stuff, you'll do well on the tests.
fantastic teacher!
she is an awesome tecaher. her test can be hard but if you study you will do just fine. she will help you if you do not understand. she uses power point and if you are struggling she will offer extra credit to the whole class.
she is an awesome tecaher. her test can be hard but if you study you will do just fine. she will help you if you do not understand. she uses power point and if you are struggling she will offer extra credit to the whole class.
In this class you can count on studying allot. As long as you study everything presented in class that you will do just fine; if you wanna ace the class then you gotta read from the textbook too. She is very helpful though, and she really is interested in the students needs and efforts.
She speaks in another language and then expects you to know what she's talking about. She's horrible. I'm sure she's good in bio, but for micro pick another teacher!! One that speaks english!
She's a great teacher. She makes Microbiology easy to learn. Print the slide show she have for lectures. It will definitely help with studying. A sweet teacher who is always willing to help if you need it!
She is nice, but not a good teacher. Don't even as her anything because she will not answer, she will make the class answer to show your stupidity. I don't even attend lecture often because I have to go home and teach myself anyway, waste of time.
Very nice person! The material is hard hard hard! You must have experience in Microbes, DNA nucleotides and chemistry before you even sign up. If you do, then you'll do fine. If you don't, you'll struggle with the material because she goes too fast.
She is quite knowledgeable, easygoing and very approachable. But Microbiology is not a subject for sissies. I didn't expect it to be an easy class. You have to do the work.
Yes this is a tough subject. Study her notes. Her test are off the notes she allows you to print. Very helpful! Offers extra credit and works around your schedule. Awesome teacher :)
She's an awesome teacher! She doesn't really use the book, but all you need is her slide posted on her website for the test. Attendance are not mandatory, but to make a good grade you gota be there to take notes. Don't expect to understand and learn this stuff on your own. It's hard and that's why she's there to teach you.
Very good teacher! Yes this is very hard, but she makes it exciting! VERY good teacher! You are a very good teacher Ms. Doriski!
She is hard! if you dont care for biology than dont take her class! She's the kind of teacher that is good to students who are only actually interested in the subject.
She's a great teacher. Seems she really cares about her students. Very kind and helpful and fair. You will make an A if you stick with it and stay on top of the info. The test questions come directly from the notes.
She is a very nice teacher, very friendly and will try to help you get biology. Just read your book, review your power points that she posts on her web site, and answer her questions in class an you will get an A
great teacher, really cares about her students and wants partisipation. she is extremely understanding if things come up and u miss class. dont need the book just use her slides the test comes off them.
She makes all her notes available to her students. i wish more teachers would do this. She is very helpful and gives chances for extra credit. Study study study, you have to know the information forwards and backwards. it is hard but you'll learn alot. if you dont have time to study EVERY SINGLE DAY dont expect higher then a C
Mrs. Doriski is a great teacher and extremely helpful. I would not say this is the easiest class but if you study and you attend class you should make an A. Most of her test questions are right from her powerpoints. Make sure you pay attention during lecture and write down information she emphasizes.
GREAT TEACHER TELLS YOU WHAT SHE EXPECTS IF YOU ATTEND CLASS AND KNOW YOUR STUFF YOU WILL PASS!!!!
Know the powerpoints easy A for the tests. In Lab, follow her guide lines, listen and do the work. Easy. Very helpful.
Great teacher :D Goes over all the notes and a little bit extra in class, answers any questions to the best of her ability and all notes are posted online to print etc. For tests as long as you read over the notes again youre good! Dont really need the text book. she gives Bonus! I loved this class :)
Explains concepts thoroughly, though sometimes she overreaches and explains concepts with other concepts leading to confusion. Her Powerpoints are available online - most of the tests are from those. Tests are kind of rough, but if you put the effort in you will do well in this class. Came out very interested in Bio.
I loved Ms. D she was very helpful, many people complained she was difficult; I completely disagree. If you attend class and pay attention it is easy to pass. I always say that I am horrible in Biology and I got an A!! She helps you understand! I wish she would have done bio2!
I took Mrs. D in spring 2012, and had to drop. BUT It was all my fault, i wasnt focused, and i didnt study much. Im currently taking her again for summer 2 and my focus is on another level. On each test i have improve by at least 30%! Bottom Line, PAY ATTENTION, STAY INVOLVED, FIND A COMFORTABLE WAY TO REVIEW HER MATERIAL AND YOU'LL BE FINE.
She was a good teacher. But her tests are tricky.
No matter what professor you take, biology is hard. There is a lot of studying. Doriski is not a bad teacher. As long as you study you will do good. We never used the book. She has notes that you can print off. What do you study for the exams? EVERY LITTLE THING on the notes.
She knows her stuff-almost too much to where it could leave someone confused if not listening very closely. She is a great teacher, but her lab exams as well as the lecture exams are very tricky. Like one said, what is on the tests... everything from her PowerPoints. Barely passed with a C.
I love Mrs. Doriski -- yes, the class is tough - but she teaches everything you need to know and if you really want to EARN that A, then you can. Her powerpoints are clear and to the point - make sure to add in any other notes she discusses during lecture. I am currently taking her during a 5wk summer session and have gotten A's on all tests so far
Terrible professor. Very unorganized. Uses big words during lectures and tests to make herself sound smart. She even said she is a sadistic teacher. Makes you feel stupid when you ask questions. Will twist and turn everything on exam. Avoid at all costs.
GREAT professor. Take her if you can. Took her for my last science credit in the summer before I transferred and enjoyed the class a lot more than I thought I would. The labs were also very interesting.
She is tough and yet thorough. You will not pass her class if you don't study and attend lectures. Not a skate class. The test questions are tricky but in a way to test your understanding of the topic not rote memorization. So get the concepts down and your fine.
Attend class, this isn't a class where you can get by if you don't go. Her tests are based off her power points and lecture, no surprise questions. Pretty straightforward and not hard as long as you attend and study the power points she provides on BB!
She makes class so boring so it is very hard to focus! Don't take her of you don't have too! Half of the students are on thier phones or sleeping! She always makes the test 10X harder than what they need to be! Offers extra credit! Which is like the only good thing! But doesn't help much! Goes through slides too fast!
She loves what she teaches. The class is not hard to pass at all. Go to class and read over power points, that is what the test is based on. I found some of her tests hard, but the final very easy.
She is an amazing professor! I fell in love with Biology through her teaching! You have to attend class and take good notes! She goes out of her way to help her students and cares! I highly reccomend taking her class! Most importantly, don't get discouraged! You will prevail!
This is a hard class, but Ms. Doriski makes it enjoyable. Print out the power-points before class & take notes during lecture. Listen carefully to what is important & write it down. Lab is a lot of fun, but be prepared to write everything down. You will be tested on it during your practical. Use your books to help with understanding material.
This class is very easy for a typical micro class. Her tests are really straight forward and she's a great teacher. You only have to study the day before. She offers TONS of bonus to ensure her students do well on the test. Lab wasn't as bad as I thought. It was actually kind of fun. I definitely recommend her.
Ms. Doriski is a very good teacher, but this is a hard class, especially if you take it in the summer. Her exams are directly from the power points and unless you don't understand something, there's no need for the book. Her lab is fun but make sure you study for her practicals in detail. She gives extra credit, and you'll probably need it.
HOW TO MAKE 100's: thoroughly LEARN the Pwr Pts; Start studying EARLY bc there's usually a quiz the week before test; Practice the tests from links on Blackboard, (even if its from a different book). If you do this, the tests are EASY. She doesn't test any material she hasn't covered in class. Doriski is very nice and wants participation.
The tests are straight from the notespower points. If I took it again, I'd study more diligently as there's a quiz every week in lab and a test every 3-5 weeks. If you understand the power points you should be good to go for them though. She does offer help if you ask and will try to rephrase if necessary.
I love this woman. I used to struggle with Bio Pre AP in high school, and was scared to take the college course, but this woman change everything. She saved me, everything is crystal clear, and she makes the class SOOO EASY. I feel like you actually have to try to fail this class. She really cares about your grade and wants to see you pass.
Took her over the summer while working 40 hours. Tests from powerpoint but you have to know it in and out. Few points EC on each exam. Pay attention, do not miss class, listen. MARK STAR on essay questions, she will tell you topics. Just study hard , and read powerpoint many times, and will get A. Very nice and great quality, miss her class!
Very sweet, and her lectures are clear. If you put in a little effort to read the chapters the correlate to the lectures before class and study before tests, you'll make an easy A.
She is the sweetest teacher, but, she has the most monotone voice ever! She reads off powerpoint's that she creates (on Blackboard). If you read the powerpoint's, you'll be fine! Test's are moderatehard, but I'm also not a huge science person. Attendance is not a huge issue because you sign your name on the attendance sheet. Don't need the book.
Test are ok and if you study the powerpoints in detail you will be fine. Practicals are in great detail so study hard for those. Textbook is not needed. I just finished her summer course and lectures were super long. Nice teacher and wants her students to do well.
Great teacher! She gives PLENTY of extra credit chances! By far the best teacher for both bio 1 and microbiology. would recommend strongly to anyone who needs to take these courses or just would like to expand their knowledge on the subject matter. Definitely going to miss this class and this teacher. Ms. D is the bomb. com
Ms. D is super cool! I absolutely love her. Her class is tough just because it's general bio, but she is the best teacher. She's super clear and doesn't mind going over stuff a few times until you get it and will always help you at her office hours. She's funny and really nice as well and posts all her notes and reviews on blackboard.
I only had her for the lab portion of Micro, but she was great. Super nice. Easy going. She makes sure that you understand everything so that you will do well on the 2 practicals. Just memorize everything that she writes on the board and the handouts, and you will make an A in the lab portion.
Very good. She cares about her students and wants everyone to do well. Very helpful if you don't understand a concept or need additional information.
People think the richmond campus is far when it's not so her classes are pretty small. I drove from the sugarland area and it was only 10 more minutes than the sugarland. She's a nice professor who real cares for the students. No book needed her PowerPoints are really well written. Getting an A will be easy and you' actually learn the material.
You can use your book if you need to even if its a later edition just check with her first. If you take notes and follow her power points you will be fine. I took her for microbiology and lab it was great. If you have any questions she great at helping you understand.
OTC, she's great
Professor Doriski knows her Microbiology. I Was a bit nervous taking this class, but I'm so thankful I chose her class. Her knowledge on this subject is immense, and she doesn't read power points to you. She actually teaches! You do need to study, but she lets you know ahead of time what information to pay close attention to. Engaging class.
Although her test were a bit difficult for me I did pass. You have to read and take notes on the power points she gives you. Do the extra credit she gives you. She will also let you know in advance what questions just might be extra credit from the slides she provides. I was scared to take her class but I'm glad I did.
I only have her for lab so I do not know how she is in lecture, but I have heard great things about her.
At the beginning, she may seem really hard, but if you study the notes and pay attention to what she puts emphasis on then you will pass. She gives extra credit at the end of the semester. She is very caring and willing to help you if you go to her office hours.
Although the class can be pretty difficult and requires a lot of studying, you just have to pay attention. Mrs. Doriski offers so many bonus points and extra credit opportunities especially towards the end of the semester. Also she drops hints occasionally about the test. She is very kind and I only recommend her if you are willing to work hard.
She is an amazing teacher. Her tests come straight from her powerpoints. She will often hint at some of the things that you may find on the tests. She gives out plenty of extra credit in both the lab and the lecture. She is always willing to help you if you go to her office hours.
Omg!!! I dont know where to start. She is the best. I took this course during the summer and it was super fast paced. Test every week so thats 4 lecture tests and 2 lab practicals. It honestly was not bad as long as you study. Get ready to study every night! Its worth it though. She gives us extra credit. I would recommend her. Take her!!
I may have said "Yes" for book use; u really DON'T NEED THE BOOK coz she said it herself: you're tested on the ppts, not the book. The reason why I rented the textbook is for clarification purposes. I am taking her for summer and her 2 hr lecs are boring. Ima quote my friend here: Cherukara - best lecs tricky exams; Ms. D - bad lecs easy exams
Super woman!!!! am glad i took her over the summer and i made an A. its not an easy class because it is a science class that requires lot of studying, so do not slack off. She award bundles of extra credit. I even got 99/100 on an exam. UNBELIEVABLE!!!! I wish she teaches other courses because she is calm at explanations and work with student.
She's a very chill teacher though VERY boring and slow paced. Her test reviews are pointless and are nothing like the test (as said In her own words); All she does is give a long lecture over her PPTS. You will have to study hard in this class, don't slack off - There are 4 exams, 9 Lab quizzes and two lab practicals.
Very nice lady! She knows her microbiology! Her tests are very hard, so I suggest you have to study
With Ms. Doriski for lecture, the powerpoints are your reviews for the exams. I mean, honestly, the lectures were VERY boring. Her exams though are not too shabby if you study. With her for lab, you have to study everything. I just kinda wish she was straight-to-the-point, loud and clear...
Her lectures were primarily based on her powerpoints (like literally she just read from straight off of the slides). Her tests were very difficult, so definitely get ready to study heavy. She would always lecture very very slow. If you aren't familiar with biology heavily I would not suggest her for a first time bio. class (ended up barely passing)
Super sweet woman. Lectures are literally what is on her PowerPoint. If you dont like listening to someone read, read by yourself out of class, but she does point out specifics thatll be on tests. Reviews dont match up too good to tests but she gives lots of chances for extra credit. Trust me, do the extra credit! You wont regret it. Read PP!
I enjoyed this class and really learned so much. Ms. Doriski is passionate and thourough about what she teaches and although microbiology is a difficult course, she does a fantastic job at providing opportunities for students to do well in the class, as long as you are willing to put in the work.
Professor Doriski really wants you to succeed. She is one of the best teachers I have came across, and I am so glad I ended up in her lecture/ and Lab. She will help in any way she can, and is a great teacher. You will need to study for her class but she gives extra credit through out the semester. Awesome Professor! Take her
shes a sweet lady, i enjoyed her in lab, but her lectures were so long and she does talk slow so we didnt always finish everything. she only had 4 tests and the 2 lab practicals. due to covid19 we went to online and it was so hard. but we were given 4 quizzes extra to help, which was nice.
Professor Doriski was one of the best science profs ive had! I took her for summer 1 along with general biology. (Yeah I know intense). Her lectures are lengthy but she is very good at letting you know what is on the test! Shes fair and does not trick you! She also gives you so many chances for extra credit so take advantage! An A is doable!!
Took for lab portion only. Professor is nice and understanding, but the material is difficult and requires a lot of study time. Compared to other Bio professors, exams were on the easier side and was not confusing. Despite previous reviews, professor did not offer extra credit in the lab portion. Wish they were more accommodating due to COVID-19.
Dr. Doriski is absolutely amazing! I took her summer class for BIOL 2420 and she was one of the most helpful professors I've ever had. Any time I needed help to understand what to expect on the exams, she was only an e-mail away! She also gives extra credit to those who need it!
I had Doriski for Bio 1406 lecture. It was an online class so much more flexible. Overall she is an alright professor, keeps you informed on weekly basis. Just look over your previous quizzes before taking unit tests and you should be fine.
Professor Doriski is a very sweet and patient teacher ! she gives a lot of extra credit and is willing to work with you. her lectures are straight from PowerPoints and her exams are heavy on the PowerPoint content so take notes!! the final replaces lowest exam grade. only thing was that her grading method was not very clear towards the end.
I took her in summer 2, and I recommend taking her for microbiology. Microbiology is a tough subject; only this professor can make it easy to end with an A. Her tests are all the unit quizzes combined. She gives a lot of extra credit. She will bump you to an A if you have a high B. Study the quizzes, and the essay prompts she mentions in class!!
Absolutely fantastic, Doriski read all her lectures through PowerPoint, but it made the information as concise as possible. The exams reflected the information on the few quizzes assigned online, so pay attention to the exams. Totally recommend it to everyone that wants to take a light-load class.
Had her over the summer, amazing easy-going teacher. Don't need to buy textbook since her powerpoints cover everything. She's really passionate about teaching and getting you to learn. there are quizzes, discussions, and some extra credit. She really tries to help you out grade-wise as long as you're trying.
First off let's just start with, YES you should/need to take her for microbiology! With this being my last course before I transfer, I lost a lot of motivation to study but her test questions are so straight to the point you wouldn't even believe I lacked in studying. Her quiz questions are sometimes on the exams so that's a plus, take her Doriski!
Took the Microbio course in the summer. It is a lot of work but maybe one of the easiest classes I've taken in a long time. It's probably impossible to get anything lower than a B in this class unless you are just not trying. She offers so much extra credit in the tests and outside of the tests. Do the quizzes and you'll pass the exams.
Prof. Doriski was great. She offered several extra credit assignments that directly correlated with the units and really helped me understand the units better. The discussions (4) were all participation grades and no minimum word count required! If you do well on the quizzes you will easily score high on the tests. Great general biology class!
Instructor is really nice and give plenty of opportunities for extra credit or extra points for an exam (always has bonus questions)! As long as you participate in all the discussions/quizzes, take detailed notes during lectures, and study you will do great!
You may read reviews and hear “light-load”, this is the last class you will take if you want that. I find a class where it's heavily dependent on your independent studying and all they do is present the information in the most monotone boring way by straight reading PowerPoints- it's not teaching, it's you figuring it out on your own.
plzz dont go on rating i took her for lab she barely talks and doesn't tell you what you expect in labs her reviews are not helpful and on exam day she bring all the things which she didn't tell you, so plz dont take her for lab if you want good grades.
I initially heard horrible things about this professor and was skeptical about taking her class. But her class was the only one that worked with my schedule at the time so I took the chance. I do not regret it! As long as you pay attention you will ace this class!
I enjoy her exams; they're straight to the point with some essay questions sometimes. Her labs are great too; she explains every procedure every step of the way, and the lab practicals are not bad since she does a review a week before practicals. No need for textbook, exam are based on slides
