Great teacher and even better seminar moderator. Wonderful sense of humor and very easy-going style, but no-nonsense as well. You will learn a good deal from Prof. Gregory.
Hated history until I took this course. Smart, funny and easy to follow. Puts everthing in a context you can understand. Cool, cool, cool!
Great class. Easy and fun, but work is involved.
Great personality. Makes coming to class worthwhile. Classes are never boring. Great teacher, explains things very well. Easy to understand, and very lovable and entertaining. She shows great films and documentaries. Her papers and precis are hard, but she is fair and her lectures make up for it.
This class was a waste of my time and everyone else's. This teach made this topic (medieval culture) completely boring with her own personal opinions about religion. ONLY TAKE IT IF YOU HAVE TO BECAUSE ITS EASY!!!
Don't like history, liked this class. Speaks the student's language, covers themes, not dates. May try to scare you off, but if you know the material you'll do fine.
This is a fun professor and you will learn a lot. Be prepared for a lot of writing and reading. She also takes a long time to return papers but I would give an overall positive recommendation for the class and professor.

Gregory made this class more interesting. A lot of reading and there are no study guides. Without the study guides you are stuck studying everything even on the map quizzes when there are like 100 cities. The professor was cool but she is more interested in her history than she is about helping you pass.
She was ok. She sometimes tends to get side track and falls behind from her lecture. There is no study guide, test are multiple choice and essay (2 midterms and final), 4 precis, and 4 map quizes which I recommend studying at least 2 weeks if you are bad at memorizing things casue you never know what she is going to put on there.
Dr. Gregory is a fun and engaging professor. As long as you accept the fact that she will take FOREVER to return your papers you'll have a good time in her class.
Great teacher!
Dr. Gregory's teaching tactics might be good for some; however, it was more difficult for me to follow along. Also, she bashes on Christians a lot.
Very enthusiastic. Class is entirely lecture with book quizzes almost daily from readings. Nice slide show to compliment lecture. Does get sidetracked a little, and sometimes hard to keep up with her. However she will slow down if you ask her.
Interesting teacher. Uses the textbook a lot. Great lectures, but you cannot get by on the test on lecture alone. Does not give any indication of what kind of material is going to be on the test, a little frustrating. Several map quizzes and mini-essays.
shes alright
The class was relatively easy. Just pay attention to the lectures and turn in the precis and thats about it. She also has surprise reading quizzes, but there really not that hard. Overall, I would take her again, she was a great professor and she was really funny.
Nice, funny, easy grader, I have had her a few times and she is awesome.
This class is okay. It is offered with an adjunct class which is very helpful if you did not get a chance to finish the readings. There is about 20pgs of reading on avg. The precis are simple following ALL of her guidelines to get an A. It is not suggested to miss a class. The exams are based on it.
She's definitely different but it just adds 2 her 50s outfits & sarcastic personality. Overall I like her as a person & she's very helpful when U ask 4 it. She knows her stuff. I personally don't like history so I found this class hard. A LOT of reading, & a 10pg research paper. Class is boring but you get points for being there. Good enough.
Very interesting teacher She is funny, sarcastic and somewhat nerdy but that makes her who she is. She is nice and approachable. You can email her anytime and she responds quickly. Grades easy to fair. Go to lecture to do well, they're interesting She makes it fun. I would recommend her!
Gregory really knows her stuff and makes the class interesting. The class was pretty easy as long as you do the assignments and review your notes for tests. Enthusiastic teacher, her slightly sarcastic personality made the class enjoyable. She is one of those teachers who knows everything about her subject and can tell the story behind any event.
Do your work, study what you need, sit back and enjoy the ride. C. Gregory is great teacher who knows what she saying and we enjoy that...you'll love it
She is a interesting teacher; funny and keeps class light. Very easy grader, but beware her upper division classes- they all follow the same format: 2 5 pg book reviews, 10 pg research paper, 8-24 pg take home final, and 2 2-4 pg precis. doesn't count as a writing intensive class but is. Still an good class, and I'm signed up for her next semester.
Enthusiastic and intelligent. She is clear spoken and easily understood. She told the best stories, the part i love about history...the little things that arent facts, but more like, a sidestory like how King Richard the lionheart had a relationship with the king of france. Interesting. I would take her again, she challenged me, and made me think.
Had her for GE history -- do your work, and put some quality effort into it and this class will be a great experience. She is quirky and really interested in history, which makes this class enjoyable. As far as map quizzes, just focus on the most important cities, and on the tests, go over your notes.
Professor Gregory is definitely one of the best professors I've had. Very knowledgeable, PhD from Yale! Rarely uses notes when lecturing. Great story-teller, connects with the students and is able to relate ancient history with the students & great sense of humor. Everything she covers in class is on the exams, there are NO surprises.
While her map quizzes were hard, the rest of this class was a breeze. I loved Dr. Gregory's class, I would recommend it to anyone who needs this class unless you have a very tiny sense of humor. She will joke about religion, but it makes it funny and you will remember it! She is a great lecturer and well worth it.
If you show up and take notes (like you are supposed to - hello! you're in college!) the class is very manageable. She is a neat person, and pretty easy to listen to. I didn't think the class was that boring at all.
Good teacher; good personality, lectures, interaction, and fascinating books. However, even for a graduate seminar, 650+ pages reading a week is excessive seemed liked overkill.
Ignore anyone who says Professor Gregory is not a great professor. Is a fair grader, easy to talk to, and very funny. The only downside is that you will need to take a ton of notes, but they definitely come in handy.
Overall, I like Professor Gregory. I had her during the summer term. Her lectures are very interesting. The test weren't that hard either, but students really need to attend class and take good notes in class. Reading the book also helps too! The map work is tedious, but it really helped me understand the history of the civilization being studied.
Easy! Easy! But you really don't learn anything. I heard that her actual history classes are different but hist 100 is a class on writing in history and we really didn't learn anything. She cancelled 6 weeks of class. Didn't tell us what she was looking for on our papers until after she returned them. I don?t think anybody got less that a B.
DON'T take this professor. Yea her tests, precis and pop quizzes are easy if you read and take notes from lecture and book, but she is completely narrow minded and has her own Anti-Christian/Anti-Religion agenda for the class. She needs to keep her own opinions about religion to HERSELF and just teach the material!
Dr. Gregory is the best professor to take History 100 from. She is very interesting, smart, and will help you be successful in writing future papers. I wish I had taken her class earlier in my career as a student. I respect her a lot.
She was very smart in the subject. I just don't like history especially ancient hist. The class was okay I got like a B. Since it was a huge classroom she never learned any names but got angry when people would leave class cus she required attendance.
Honors version of the HIST50 class. One of the best history classes I have taken. She is fun and entertaining yet resourceful and informal on her subject. She will always help you when you need it.
LOVED THIS CLASS! Dr.Gregory is wonderful! She leads class discussions like she having a conversation she knows her stuff so well. I learned SO MUCH in this class and I enjoyed it! She is such a fun teacher and keeps things light. One big paper but you can choose any topic and she is very helpful in working on it. Would absolutely take her again!
This is the honors version of hist 50. She is such a well informaed teacher that did not waste time lecturing, but helped us learn how to really analyze the material. She is well informed and easy to get ahold of. Laid back, nice, and eager to help. Recomended!!!
One of the BEST history professors/teachers I ever had! She is funny, friendly and knows what she is talking about! She is an amazing storyteller and makes even the most boring facts seem lively and funny. She is great at always making sure to tell both sides of a story. I STRONGLY recommend her!!! She will rock your history world!
Had her for the summer term. Pretty good class, knows her subject very well. Definitely take notes every chance you get because it will show on the test so you must focus. She is overall a very fair and decent teacher, I recommend her.
This class frustrated me so much! 2 book reports, 2 essays, and a long research paper. About 24 pages of writing, and then the final is 4 typed essays! It should be a writing intensive class, but it's not. Plus, the subject matter is incredibly boring, and her lecture style does not help at all. Only take her if you're interested and like to write.
Fantastic
I love that her style is straight forward- it's history, so it should be- but assignments were based on the readings, exams were cut-to-the-chase.. She's easy to listen to, utilized technology and has a good sense of humor. So appreciate that she promptly answers e-mails!!
Took her for History50. You will get a decent grade as long as you do what you are supposed to do. She is pretty clear and enthusiastic when it comes to teaching. But her class is not an easy A, to get a good grade on her test, reading the textbook and attending her lecture is necessary
We had to do sooo much writing. 10 page research paper, two 5 page book reports and more. She doesn't have lecture notes so everything is verbal. She is really nice the only con in this class is the writing.
This is a writing intensive class without the credit. we wrote 30 plus pages. 1 research paper, 2 book reports, 2 reading reflections, and a take home final 8 page minimum. With all that work, she is a great person, funny, entertaining, and cares about her students, but the work load is extreme heavy with readings and writing.
Professor Gregory is a great teacher who is very knowledgeable. Her lectures are great and she is so funny. There is a lot of writing, but that's what college is. She is preparing you for what you will be doing in other classes, this class really prepared me. I really enjoyed the class.
I love this professor. She is so funny, non-judgmental, and presents the information without bias. She is aware of the time restraint during summer and adjusted the syllabus accordingly. She knows so much about her field and is happy to share. Even if taken in the full semester, I'm confident she would operate with the students interest in mind.
Professor Gregory is hands down my favorite professor at Sac State. Do not wait until last minute to do any of the papers assigned and go in to office hours to get help. Great person and easy to talk to and great professor that is strict but fair with all of her students. Happy to have had her for 2 semester both 50H and 51H.
Such a fun professor, such a goofball. She will often go off on tangents and tell cool stories. You can fail every quiz in the class and still get an A because she hands them back and uses the same questions on the final. One final paper at the end.
I learned my early Medieval history through taking courses with Dr. Gregory. She has really good lectures with slides for the students to see. She is a very fair grader and helps with the writing.
For someone who isnt in to history, this was an easy A. Her lectures are interesting and shes really funny. Assigns a decent amount of essays and readings, but i didnt do any readings and passed easily. She is flexible on due dates and her tests are super easy and clear cut. Show up and take good notes and you'll pass easily.
You will get an A in 50&51H, but I honestly just felt like the class was a waste of time, but if you're in honors you have no choice. A lot of the time she just talked and didn't even begin a lecture. Yes, she's funny and easy going, but it feels extremely pointless to be there and the quizzes are just random obscure details.
4 books to read, only really read 3 of them. I like that she doesn't follow her powerpoints word by word. She obviously knew her medieval stuff VERY well. She was quite slow at returning our papers though, which is a little disappointing. Really funny and dorky. She goes off-course sometimes, but still makes it engaging.
The best part about Dr. Gregory is that nothing she says feels forced. She is someone you will get to know very closely as time goes on. The discussions are very engaging, and she makes them very entertaining. There is a lot of reading in the class, but there is so much extra credit offered so the test should not stress you out.
Dr. Gregory is a wonderful professor. She makes the class fun and even though it's mostly lecture with some pictures of sheep that change every class (she loves sheep) and a few power points that fit with the lecture, she is an interesting lecturer. Her style is straightforward and clearly understood. She has a wry sense of humor which is fun.
She's a great professor and she knows her stuff but it takes her approximately forty thousand years to correct and give back anything you turn in. Not only that, but she cancels class frequently and with little notice. Over the course of the semester she cancelled class 10 times.
I like Professor Gregory, she is a very good teacher. Take the time to talk with her if you don't understand something, it will help you. If she cancels class it's because she had to. Don't get upset because if you paid attention to the classes that there was and read your syllabus, you should do well in the class. Study!
Professor Gregory is an amazing professor who knows a lot about history. Reading is important in this class, so don't forget to read. Make sure you are actually trying on your essays. The grading can be unclear, but listen to Gregory and you'll do fine.
The class was not difficult and she is responsive to emails but there was zero feedback and grading until the course was completed. Seems like it was a last minute rush to get the grades in on time. Super nice, and a good course overall other than that.
Her classes (HIST 50H and 51H) are required to be taken to meet Honors requirements. She hardly ever gives real lectures, you probably shouldnt spend your time reading the textbook because youre not gonna remember anything from it that will help you on the quizzes, and go to all the extra credit events. You will surely get an in A in her class.
Professor Gregory is obviously very passionate about what she teaches. Her lectures are sort of hard to follow at times because she just kind of rambles about the topic of the day, but she's very knowledgeable and makes the lectures interesting and memorable. Most of the class was essays and a super easy midterm.
Dr. Gregory is a really chill teacher! She's very understanding of situations, so if something comes up, she's lenient about it. Participation is very important in that class! They make up a good chunk of your grade. She also makes a lot of bonus point events as extra credit, so there's literally no reason to fail that class.
For a WI class this was easy. The tests are easy if you read. She was so understanding during the COVID-19 issues and limited workload because of the library being closed. Her lectures can be long but tend to go perfectly with the reading. Only complaint is directions are not specific & leave you feeling lost but if you reach out she explains well.
Make sure you participate - that's SO much of the final grade. I didn't realize this in 50H and got a B- because of it, but it was an easy fix for 51H. She's really accessible outside of class, try to talk to her at least a couple of times if you're shy. If you're not shy, you won't struggle at all. Great lectures, even if they're off topic!
I loved having Dr. Gregory this semester. She is insanely down to earth and made lectures feel very welcoming and casual. Her lectures were always interesting and her assignment schedule was very manageable. The only issue I had was that she graded kind of slow and the grading system was kind of confusing, but everything worked out in the end.
The course may be confusing at first but youll get the hang of it. Extremely easy class.
The textbooks are useless, I brought both books to only use literally one sentence from only 1 of them because she said we could choose a random quote and add it. I could've gotten it off the internet truly, the paper was only to see how we write, so pointless. Late grader for all assignments. U can pass by doing the quizzes(easy) and discussions!
Her class was fairly easy, besides the research paper, we had to do. The research paper topics were very confusing and stressful as it wasn't easy to find information. She was also a slow grader and never graded our discussion posts or the two papers we had to complete, until the end of the semester. Overall, she wasn't too bad.
Honestly she's really sweet and understanding as long as you send her some sort of message when you get the time. She tends to fall behind on grading very often, especially big assignments like the ones that feed into your research paper. The regular classwork is not very difficult, and it is easy to stay on pace.
A VERY easy professor and a VERY easy class! The hardest part about this class is the research paper which is not too bad if you don't procrastinate. She is understanding but a VERY slow grader, and sometimes she will mistake your work and it's kinda difficult to know what your overall score/grade is in the class. Overall pretty easy and boring
Takes too long to grade, will forget to give you participation points, and makes the lectures about her life. However, she is helpful with feedback and gives extra credit. Make sure to read the syllabus.
Follow work guidelines and you'll get an A. She grades participation points each class. Prioritizes mental and physical health both for herself and her students. Can seem rude when talking one on one. Final is a research paper. Start it EARLY. Overall a great professor and look forward to taking more classes of hers in the future.
Professor Gregory was a good, caring teacher. She really knows her stuff and it shows in her lectures, though she does get off topic from time to time. Don't slack off on discussion questions and participate in class because those points add up fast. Also, start the research paper early! It is so stressful trying to write it all at once.
Participate and start your research paper ASAP and you will be fine. She is nice and pretty funny. I did fall asleep a lot though since it was my last class and i was tired af.
Professor Gregory is an amazing professor and individual. She's really passionate about what she teaches. She cares deeply about her students and wants them to succeed. It's an easy and flexible class.
Assignments consist of weekly quicks, two discussion questions/week, and a fifteen minute presentation on a topic assigned to you. I received a lot of good feedback (from Dr. Gregory and the students) on my presentation and actually enjoyed giving it. Participation really does make a difference in your grade!
She was really good
Emailing her can take a couple of days. Some cohorts had better turn around via text. Lots of reading. Follow her rubrics for every assignment. Do that and you will get an A. Start your final paper on day one. Nothing will be graded until final grades are due.
Pros - Easy, I guess Cons - Holds your grade hostage at the end of the semester until you evaluate her unfinished book. So you basically can't tell whether you're doing good or bad in the course until it's too late. - She made us buy her incomplete book and it served as the textbook for the course - Confusing instructions at times.
I enjoyed her class a lot. She wasn't always on topic, but I can tell she's enthusiastic about history. Cares a lot about students and mental health. Only thing I would complain about is the textbook she says to buy, but you really don't need to. Assignments were easy, but I would say start working on the research paper as soon as you can.
Her lectures were pretty good. Just make sure you stay on top of the discussion responses and start your photo project well ahead of the time it's due.
this is my second semester having her, and while she may cancel class often her class is so fun! we're always tossing jokes with her and she is very understanding when it comes down to your situation. in the best way possible she's a funky lady
Never bought the textbook, and I was fine. Her class is easy, just remember to participate every week, and don't forget the discussions, they can make you lose a lot of points. Final is easy, just start at least 2 weeks before. So much extra credit. Only annoying thing is u don't know ur grade till the end. U don't need to pay attention in class.
She is very biased between her sections. Constantly "forgetting" to give our section hints for the quizzes and letting other sections have the day off. She is also very opinionated and inappropriate. Specifically talking about why she doesn't like the Christian religion, categorizing them as "people who have no free will." Weird to me, idk.
I took Dr. Gregory for 50H, 51H, and currently for Honors 3. I love her. She's an acquired taste, and definitely not for everyone, so beware. She's pretty opinionated. Consistent participation and attendance matter a lot. She's kinda disorganized and slow on grading but if you ask her for feedback in person she'll give great feedback.
Kind, funny, interesting person. Good at leading discussions. Grades kindly for the most part. Is willing to be challenged on ideas.
