She's a good instructor, but no chill at all. She will call on people out of nowhere and force you to participate, which is understandable to a certain degree. Made it very clear during the first class that she does not like extra credit. Not very compromising and came off as unreasonably strict at times.

BUS 401 curriculum seriously needs to be reconsidered. The class was a waste of time and one of the least valuable business core classes offered, even compared to gen eds. None of the material relates and the whole course was a captive zoom audience with no purpose. Professor was overly aggressive with participation that did not to the material.

This class and professor are a disgrace to an otherwise fantastic business program. Prof. Martinez is kind, but I found her to be disorganized when it came to the structure of the course. Expect excessive busy work, long/drawn-out lectures, and unreasonable attendance expectations. I'm surprised this course ever made it out of the pilot phase.

While she is upbeat and encourages class participation in a healthy way she is curt and rude to students if they don't follow her nonexistent directions for assignments. My group had a presentation last week for her class. We received very harsh feedback from her and then she held one of my groupmates back after a team meeting with her. I later got to know that she gave that student individual cruel feedback and berated their performance and accused them of not contributing to the project when I know they did.

One word to describe Candace is insufferable. There are tough professors who are good people, and she is not. She lacks empathy and consideration and makes her students anxious. She complains about slides she didn't make, so why can't she make them? Her TA's do more work than her but she gets paid a handsome salary. She should be reported.

If you're a POC or international student, avoid taking her class. She will target you especially and ask you to speak up or pretend she cannot understand your accent. She has made comments about international students before, particularly Chinese and Indian. If you're white you're fine. She tells students to think, learn and grow but we can't.

She encourages participation but is dismissive if you get an answer wrong and makes you feel bad about it. She has personal issues with students and makes it seem academic. She is highly under qualified.

Someone called her feedback and grading "capricious" and I think that is very true. Her grades and feedback aren't measured by students' effort, but rather by her problems with them. If she catches a student on their phone or looking down or not making eye contact with her the whole time, she will seek revenge through comments and grading.

This professor has no experience in the corporate world yet disguises her very rude and targeted feedback to students as "criticism they won't give you in the real world that you need to know." She uses her personal issues with students and takes them out in academic pursuits saying "that's how academia works." Unclear expectations, poor structure.

I haven't taken her, but I have friends that do and they always complain about her being politically incorrect towards students. Someone posted about her on Reddit too and many people commented that their observations are valid and they heard about her. My friend said they felt very targeted in her class and it ruined their mental health.

I've never seen a professor this disrespectful and inconsiderate towards her students, especially those that are not like her. If possible, avoid taking classes with her at all costs, even if it means waiting a semester to take it with a different professor. She can turn your otherwise quality Gies education into an unpleasant experience. Taking this class with her will ruin your mental health, sanity and self-esteem. Her grading procedures make me anxious. She will be extra hard on POC women. She takes her pent up rage and describes it as academic criticism but it is targeted and filled with hate.

Good luck if you want a professor who respects you and actually cares for your feedback. She will argue with you if you give her feedback but when she gives you personally directed criticism, you cannot talk back to her. She does not respect students, she wants to humiliate them. I don't think her supervisors have any idea how she is in class.

She is a nightmare of a professor. She has certainly violated policy multiple times by talking about her political views in class and being RUDE to certain groups of students. Usually, if you fall in this group you are a POC or international student. If she asks for suggestions don't give any. She will argue with you.

There are tough professors who genuinely care for their students' professional development, and then there's Martinez who cares to make sure students feel unprepared and unsuccessful especially if they fall under a certain demographic. Unstructured, disorganized, and always late to class. Cold calls students for the purpose of being mean. DO NOT.

She is a shame to Gies. I'm sure the recent outpour of reviews has to do with the Reddit post about her recently and rightfully so. Many students have been holding in their feelings the entire semester. She uses her position of power to intimidate students and portrays a totally different side to her colleagues. Her lectures are ineffective.

She lacks any sort of professionalism and is extremely rude to students. If they mess up, she will be nasty. It's not a proper environment for growth and she criticizes some students to no end. How she treats her students and conducts classes is very unlike the real world. She should be on a reality TV show for rudest professors in the school.

Now that the class is finally over, I can share my thoughts. She does not show professionalism when coming to class 10 mins late or being rude to students and grading based on her mood towards them. She actively makes threats to students. She makes the material confusing and if you admit your confusion, she will make fun of you. DO NOT TAKE HER.

I took her class a couple semesters ago but I heard from my friends in class this semester that she got even worse than when I had her. She was very disorganized, showed up late to class and also still did target quiet students and non-native speakers, but it seems like it got much worse now. She made a snide remark about girls who show up late to her class when she does that every single class, so you can guess how ineffective she and her lectures are.

Every time I talked she told me to speak up or yelled "WHAT" with a rude look on her face. It's already hard enough being an international student.

After you take this class, forget everything. You will never use it in the real world. If anything, you might think mean people are nice because this professor is a level of cruel that was incomprehensible to me before taking this class and getting disrespected by her every Tuesday and Thursday.

Most of my classmates are uncomfortable. She doesn't encourage her office hours and if you go you aren't welcome. Her presentations are disorganized and boring.

There comes a time when a professor needs to stop teaching, and that is now for Martinez. She brings her negative attitude to class and instills fear among students. She demonstrates poor character and business professionalism. She yells at students for the same things that she does. I have cried after class so many times.

I'm literally considering therapy at this point because of her and her classes. I worry that her rudeness will be a barrier to me getting the most out of my professional life. Whatever I do after graduation certainly won't relate to her poorly executed lectures and slideshows and inability to effectively convey material.

Like the last post said, she will be hearing from my therapist. This experience will cost me a lot in therapy. I felt dehumanized in her class. I had no motivation to participate knowing I would get humiliated let alone study or pay attention. It's not like she gives effective lessons anyway. The Harvard Business cases are way more useful than her.

Her exam averages are super low and she doesn't believe in extra credit. She has an auto failure of the class if you miss more than two days of class.

She is a very intimidating and rude professor who oversteps boundaries and uses the privilege of her power to tear down students. She was mean from the beginning but the worst as class ended. It was a sour note to conclude my Gies experience. I struggled but was scared to get help from how she was humiliating in class. She was ineffective.

She is the single worst professor at Gies who intentionally sets students up for failure. She doesn't believe in helping students or giving them study plans, cannot accept her mistakes but will berate students to the point where they go home and cry. Her slides are awful and an eyesore. She can't teach without insulting students.

I had to leave for the restroom during class due to a women's health occurrence. She gave me a nasty, menacing look when I came back, then cold called me and then held me back after class and yelled at me for disruptive behavior. She doesn't post slides on Canvas in time. Doesn't help prepare for exams. Doesnt guide us what to study.

Her expectations are not always written out, you apparently have to be a mind reader to know. She says statements that would normally be friendly in a condescending manner where you know she means ill, not well. Rude and disrespectful to students. Embarrasses students publicly. She invades my personal space during class all the time and comes close to my face when giving lectures and I can smell her breath. Her lectures are not engaging and its unclear what the takeaways are. Her expectations are in her head, not the syllabus. Her canvas is disorganized and chaotic. She doesnt respect students or their personal space, lacks basic empathy, has double standards and grades capriciously. Nobody knows her expectations. She picks obscure exam questions. She screams at students. She stepped on my foot and never apologized. She is on a huge power trip because her lectures are unprofessional but shes tenured.

If she has a bad day which is everyday, it is for everyone in class. She is confusing in class. She does her own thing with the frat boys cheering on while everyone else suffers.

If you are a POC or international student do not take her. She will make you uncomfortable especially if you are East, Southeast or South Asian. She assigns many assignments at the same time and doesnt realize we have other responsibilities. She has no desire to be there but her paycheck, and that reflects in her teaching.

The way she graded exam 2 was suspicious. She never gave statistics. She slams the door aggressively. She complains about her own slides, rude and disrespectful to students even if they have jobs and expects everyone to cater to her whims and fancies. She is full of entitlement and privilege.

She has no idea how to present and just reads off slides she complains about. She spends 99% of the class berating students. She makes out of pocket comments. She makes texts extra hard. If you're a Gies student, chances are you have heard about someone complaining about her class this semester. She gives her students unnecessary work for a business core and humiliates them by constantly being RUDE. Her lectures do not help and no need for retention.

She doesn't even know her own course. She lacks content knowledge and misguides students. It's hard to focus on material when she spends half the class complaining about slides.

She uses the students and class as an outlet for her pent up anger and rage which is very unprofessional. She is a lesson to students on what not to expect in the real world. She screams in students faces to the point you can smell her breath, as someone said earlier. Her slides are just a decoration because no learning happens in her class.

Her grades arent based on your understanding, its on how much she likes you. Which is easy if youre white. You can study all you want with her misleading slides and study guides she steals from other instructors and you will still fail her exams because she DOES grade capriciously. It's like the pyramid on Dance Moms for BADM 449.

The recent reviews do so much justice to her poor teaching of a course that could have originally had potential. People with other teachers actually enjoy the class and have better GPA's and interest in the subject. Her slides are useless, she doesnt review with you for exams nor give you resources and she wants you to fail. She laughs when you cry

Someone said that the only people who like her are frat boys and that is very true. She treats them like human beings while treating everyone else especially WOC like subhuman. You will never be prepared for success with her guidance (or lack thereof). She shouldnt be teaching a literal capstone class. She is not a subject matter expert.

Always late, degrades students, outdated material, nonexistent instructions. She could have an undiagnosed mental illness because she talks about things that aren't on her Canvas at all.

This professor is straight up psycho. She doesn't make her expectations visible or clear, berates students in the name of feedback and has very blurry and messy slides that are extremely vague. Her lectures are just reading off her slides.

This course has so much busy work, and the tests are so stupidly specific. The worst part is that she always interrupts students when speaking to get her point across.

Adds random assignments to Canvas, grades capriciously, forgets her own syllabus, makes the class and tests 10x harder than they need to be, doesn't prepare enough, argues with students when they give her feedback she asks for, her feedback to students is degrading them and she invades personal space.

Martinez needs to retire. Her behavior is awful, grading is mood-based, tests are oddly specific and she is very rude to her students. Her lectures are boring, slides are blurry and you never learn anything really. Take with literally any other professor for 449.

My mental health was ruined for a semester. This class was my worst this semester and so unnecessarily hard. I didn't even want to go to office hours because she was so condescending. Not to forget her content was very unclear and she just expected you to get it right away.

She made a subject I was passionate about boring and dreadful by being aggressive and rude, having an unstructured class and being argumentative with her students along with utterly disrespectful

Unacceptable behavior to students and approach to teaching. If you dont want to teach then dont. Class structure is nonexistent, material is blurry and irrelevant and she overcomplicates things. Lacks any basic understanding of the syllabus and materials that she literally created.

Terrible professor and terrible person overall. God awfully disrespectful to students, exam questions are nothing related to the course material. Expects you to read six 15 pages reports in the span of two weeks in addition to the many other hw we already have. Worst class I have ever taken at U of I and I just completed Math 257 this semester.

Don't take her class. She's not the most reasonable grader and unwilling to hear student perspectives. She singles students out all the time. Lacks passion about the course content. It's time to retire.
