Really energetic, she makes class interesting
Not very clear about what is on the exams, but very helpful if you seek her out.....obsessed w/Freud
Her first time teaching this course, and she's doing a good job. Makes the material very easy, and fun; this isn't as dry as some other stats courses. Hard maker though, but even so I'd take her again.
Great prof, funny, interesting. Has a few too many "inappropriate self-disclosures" and is obsessed with Jeopardy! Hard marker though.
Excellent teacher! Obsessed with Freud and Simpsons! Helpful, clear, funny and energenic! highly recommend her! Its a hard class due to course load, but she makes it fun! and she is very helpful and answers any and all questions! shes great!
She has crazy amounts of energy and talks a mile a minute. She's a really cool lady that loves TV more than anything it seems. The class is really heavy with workload regards, but other than that enjoyable. I recommend takin' it twice a week for an hour and a half each, very manageable... :)
A very interesting person, good teaching style
No comment!
Notes she gives are very unclear, marks hard, boring style of teaching -stands in front talks (fast) writes on overhead. I read notes that she writes and they make little sense later on.
She is a good tutour! She is helpful, but wow she is hard! However, her notes are a bit hard, but study hard you do good, however, I studied my ass of still ended up with a C-, I suck at psychology, hard subject! Great lady!
Lectures are clear, informative and interspersed with entertaining anecdotes. Little class discussion, but I wasn't bored by her monologue and nor do I find most lower-level courses conducive to stimulating student dialogue. She is very, very knowledgable. Fair to easy marker.
Notes are sloppy and hard to read. She constantly goes off topic, loses your concentration. Compares and give examples from the Simpsons. Some questions on her exams are stupid and have no relation to the class.
She is CRAZY! But I love her! She has an obession with jeopardy, freud, simpsons, and shopping. Her little stories are great after focusing on psychology for an hour. Great teacher, I totally recommend her!
I find her a fun teacher however, she gives us sooooooooo much information and then when it comes to test time, i feel lost. I think she should give out a test hand out with some basics to know, not just everything in our notes...
class is awsome! a 3hr class tends to take a long time, but this one's fun b/c of all her stories, and she's so full of energy. 2 smoke breaks help too! She's a fair marker... note to anyone... if she says to buy the course study guide BUY IT AND STUDY IT!!! multiple choice ?s are based on it.
Great person... but the most unprofessional teacher I have ever met! She is crude in her comments and unspecific in her expectations. I would recommend her for other classes, but NOT an upper level class. Make sure that you "internalize" her notes too... she means it when she says it.
Kind of crazy! Uses a lot of TV references to clarify material. I don't even watch The Simpsons, but find the examples do really help learn the material. DO NOT MISS HER CLASS!!You'll miss questions on the exam and the handouts won't make sense. Learn the handouts and the text and you'll do fine.
she was a very hard marker, her tests had information on them about her personal life that we were supposed to remember, and she wasn't very nice, always off track
Dr. Taylor is an awesome teacher. Although her tests are hard, she's fair and tells you exactly what will be on them. Take her hints seriously. Makes class interesting and is very approachable. If you're a slacker, don't take her class.
Best teacher ever
she's crazy/random with her lectures but she makes it interesting. she is very clear and makes course material easy to understand. good class!
Took psych 110 with her fall 05, she is very bizarre and random at times but actually knew her stuff, watches MTV news every morning and had questions about her dreams on the test, but made a dull class interest. If you can handle her strangness and jokes shes a great prof. Is nice to guys who actually ask intelligent questions. JP
"Geewilkers!"
Wicked. Reminds me of Cooking teacher in High School. Absolutely nuts, but in a good way. She goes off on rants, but it makes the class unsleepinable (what origin is that word from?) Not good for helpfulness if you cant/dont care to read her hints at what is/nt important. She'll be a fun one. Someone count her bracelets, shes gonna break a wrist!
I love her! I love the way she teaches. Even though its totally out there, I think thats what makes it so great. You just have to remember that her idol is Freud. If you can't remember that, you are hooped. And please, someone, find out where she gets her neon pink, green, yellow, and blue tights from! They are hilarious! She is amazing!
she is fabulous. her class is very interesting and her "inappropriate self disclosures" and such make the lectures much easier to pay attention to. making a definite point to take 102 with her. great sense of humour and very fun class.
She was great! She always had amazing accessories and one reason I always came to class was to see what she was wearing that day. Her lectures are interesting and the "self disclosures" add to it.
I don't know. Yeah... she was funny and went off on rants. but i didn't sign up for a girl's night out class. It was SO distracting that when she actaully talked psych i wasn't aware and that made the class harder. Her lecture notes are insanely hard to follow. Her fill in the blank is brutal. Don't get caught by her rants and you'll be fine.
The professor to take if you are ADD!!! Seriously, not a single moment did my attention wander. Hard marker, high standards, but this is upper level, it should be that way.
most random teacher ever
Really great teaching style. Fun to listen to, funny, always wearing something crazy and cute. When she says memorize the papers she hands out, DO IT! If you want an A, you will have to work your butt off, but shes fair in her marking and clear in expectations
Gee Willikers! You will hear her say this a lot... her classes are frought with witty banter and even random off topic rants, but I whole heartedly recommend this professor. Attendance is mandatory because her notes are not FROM the text, even though she has used the text to guide her lectures. You MUST study for her exams.
worst teacher ever. im an A student and im fighting to pass right now. She kills you in exams and if you dont think on her insane level, you are not going to do well
One of the worst teachers ever! She was condescending and unapproachable. I'm an A student and got a C. That's mainly because she was so unclear so I lost interest in the class. I didn't even hand in the term paper, but still passed, so ease was moderate, but then again it was first level. I think she'd be a nightmare in an upper level.
Contrary to what others have said, she is not an impossible teacher. You DO have to study HARD for exams and you DO have to attend all classes. She is clear on what she wants and even gives hints about her exams. My one complaint was that our final paper was due the last day of class and so we had no clue of what her grading style for writing was.
Do Not take her class if you want to get an A.
Dr T is amazing. Her classes are interesting and she shares alot of random facts (jeopardy!) and funny associations (inappropriate self-disclosures!). Memorize the notes she hands out and the experiments and examples she gives because they WILL be on the exams. Will edit papers before due date. Overall, tough but fair.
I honestly don't know how her rating is this high. She is unclear, unapproachable, and condescending. She insists on being called Dr. Taylor, but then she refers to Charles Darwin as Chuck. Why must we call her Dr. Taylor when she can show no respect for other academics. She is high on herself and looks down on her students as lower. Her lectu
Her lectures are unclear. She is not clear on expectations. Her exams are fair if she relies on the txtbook. If not though u are screwed. She jumps from one place to the next with no links between ideas. She also uses too much slang and abbreviations. When you ask what her abbrev means she freaks out. It's like we are supposed to read her mind.
CRAZY!!!!!! jumps from one place to another and is so unclear. Gives no direction and is snappy when you ask for help! avoid if you have to take this course!
First day of classes, I was very offended by her vulgarity. She jumps around between topics and her notes are unclear with no structure. Tests are easy if you study her handouts and the chapters in the book.
"Like, gee willikers!" this class sucks! i loved psyc 101, which is why i took this one, but this is totally different (in a bad way). She teaches her opinion as fact and makes you learn it that way, her notes and comments are all over the map, and she attempts to abbreviate everything (without explaining what it means)! not taking her ever again!!
You cannot be prepared for a test, it is not possible. Make a slide show please! The overhead is dead and makes learning so much easier.
She is everywhere in her lectures and writes everything on the overhead with printing that is almost unreadable most of the time. she uses way too much slang when she writes her notes and when she is speaking in a lecutre.
Dr. Taylor is loud. rude. has a very unique voice. and makies many innappropriate self-disclosures. but over all, i liked her and would take a class with her again. she is so out there, she makes boring stuff more interesting. there is 3 tests & 1 paper to write for the class. all the written materian on tests are from lectures, so attend.
Incredibly unprofessional and teaches her opinion as fact which is never good in a university setting. She's incredibly entertaining, I'll give her that and very funny. As a marker, she's fair and tests were alright. The only issue I had was I almost walked out of her class a few times due to her vulgarity and sheer disregard for anyone else's opin
Love Jeopardy, and TV in general and will make many inappropriate self-disclosures during the course of the semester. I had to do it as a prereq so wasn't very interested but she is very funny.
Candace Taylor has a variety of accents making her already confusing lecture harder to follow. She talks about tv and inappropriate self-disclosures ALOT.Don't plan on writting any notes from the overhead that make any sense as she scribbles words at random during lecture, I would never take her class again
This class was a joke. Not sure how she can be a teacher, would never take a class again by her. The exams had questions on her favorite things..wtf? Waste of time to be honest.
Subject matter is boring for me, so it enables a bias as to how i view the class. Only took it as a prerequ for a program. She's nice, interesting and if you do what she tells you to do and study really hard as expected with any university class you should be fine. Goes off topic and can be irritable sometimes but overall her class was so-so.
Candace Taylor is a good teacher. She can be inappropriate, which in my opinion make the class far more interesting. She read off a few reviews of herself from this site, which I thought was pretty funny. Overall, just study for exams and pay attention. She's psycho, but it's awesome.
Oh my goodness she sucks. She makes the material seem incredibly hard and all her notes are handwritten on overheads and are unreadable. Avoid her at all costs!!!!
extremly pointless class, only three test determine grade, wouldn't recommend this teacher.
it seems like most people who dont like her come to this site to comment. i really liked her! shes a good teacher, although its a lot of notes its not boring at all. she explains thing pretty well, and shes funny, i would deffinately take her again!
Dr Taylor was a great professor. I had her for 101 and 102. If you pay attention and take notes from what she says and not just the overhead it makes a big difference. Study what she says and yes she does teach her opinion but she always states when it is Her opinion. She is very approachable and willing to help her students.
My favourite teacher.. I had her for two classes. If you're going to take a three hour psych class, take it with Dr. Taylor... never a dull moment!I also found her tests very fair, you must study her notes and the text equally
She is a very funny teacher, with interesting stories, i do wish for more clarity in her notes, and in a study guide as well.
Dr. Taylor is lovely! I imagine her thoughts are rarely uninteresting; she's unique, energetic, engaging and "Gee willikers!" she's brilliant. She loves Freud, which is always fascinating. Her teaching style reflects her personality in many ways. Seriously people, this is university! Do what she says and STUDY HARD, and you will do well.
If you are not good at writing exams and tests AVOID this class. There are 2 midterms and 1 final worth 96% all together.
Dr. Taylor is a great teacher, in my opinion. She has a great sense of humour, and her notes are very helpful. Take this class with her if you get the chance. I only wish she was teaching 102 this semester.
I love her she was funny and class was always intresting but, yes her notes were not the easiest to always read but if you pay attention and go to class then you probably will do great!
She is such a hard teacher. Her notes are generally all over the place. She marks extremely hard on exams which are worth 96% of your mark and she does not answer questions or concerns you have very well. I would not take a class of hers again
I really like Candace Taylor but her teaching stle is not for me. She lectures throughout the entire class and for exams i found that my notes didn't help so I had to thouroughly read the text book. Luckily she warns her students about what will be on the exam a week prior.
She is quite interesting and says a lot of random facts in class. There are no assignments only 3 exams. The notes she writes on the overhead make no sense so be ready to listen to every word she says n write your own notes.
Dr. Taylor is one of my favourite professors at UFV. I took both 101 and 102 with her, and her classes helped me decide to choose psyc as a major. You need to take your own notes (not what's on the overhead), but her classes, along with the many "inappropriate self disclosures" are always a blast!
She is really nice and funny, but if doing tests is not not for you since that is all the course is based on. Even if you study hours you still will not be able to get a good mark if you are not good at tests. Textbook is not used in class, but helpful for exam. ONLY Take if you can handle tests worth all your marks!!
Worst prof at UFV by far. She is extremely difficult to understand and mumbles a lot. Doesn't use the text and writes very messy and confusing notes all on an overhead projector. Will never ever take another course with her again!!
She is very confusing and even if you study for her tests, it's difficult to do well. My advice would be to avoid this class.
Dr.T is a lot of fun, her stories and side rants are always entertaining, she knows what she's talking about and if you have a question she will answer it clearly. Sure her notes are messy, but just pay attention, read the assigned text, and you'll be fine :)
Proff. Taylor was really hard to understand in class. She gives the class good notes that would appear on tests, but her tests are quite difficult. Shes a hard marker. Only three exams make up ur psyc mark. Be warned fellow students...
Dr. Taylor is an excellent prof. She is a fascinating person, and she uses very interesting personal analogies to explain concepts. It is very possible to do well in her course. Pay attention in class, read and study the textbook and the class notes, and focus on the concepts she identifies. Challenging, but I learned a lot and got a great grade!
I enjoyed this class despite my mark. I would totally recommend Dr. Taylor to anyone. You do have to work hard in the class but she is willing to give you some easy bonus marks and class is always a hoot! She has such funny stories to tell and I am even taking another class with her. She is great.
Her teaching style i find is hard to learn from. Personally i'm a hands-on, discussion kind of learner, something that involves me. Prof. Taylor's teaching style is the wall of text style, with notes being written on a projector and random comments being made about jeopardy.. If you can stay attentive through 3 hours of lecture, you'll do well =)
Dr. Taylor is a good teacher and is quite approachable and loves questions that are short or long. Her writing is a bit difficult to read sometimes on the old projector, but she said she would work on her penmanship this summer! She teaches from the book and facts are a big thing. This course requires lots of studying from her notes AND the book.
gpa killer, horrible teacher. more than half the class failed the course.
Overall Good Teacher Could Be More Less Lazy When Taking Notes But Found Her Class Overall Enjoyable But She Could Move The Notes Up More During Lectures I Feel Like I''m Bobbing For Apples Sometimes.
I've had Candace twice for upper-level courses. Her teaching style will not suit everyone - she writes on an overhead projector for the full 3 hours - but she is a good prof and really approachable. Sit up front and talk to her. High expectations for papers but her marking is fair.
Lectures and notes and exams on the lectures and notes are basically the class. If you are good at exams I suggest you take this class. She's funny and chill and makes the lectures interesting.
Dr. Taylor is a great person! She is never boring and she has many crazy stories. Don't take this class if you're looking to skip. Notes are on a projector and will not be posted! Her notes can be a bit difficult to follow so beware of that as well. I didn't open my text more than once in this class! $160 wasted! Greta environment for fun &learning
Dr. Taylor is a great Prof. She supplies interesting lectures full of funny personal examples. Her lecture material is similar to textbook material but you will need to READ THE TEXTBOOK to do well on tests as she pulls info from class notes and the textbook. She mentions this several times. If you read the textbook and show up you will do well.
Dr. Taylor has messy writing but thats pretty much her only bad quality, she engages lots of humour into her lectures and is pretty easy on the eyes ;).
Be prepared for lots of "inappropriate self disclosures". She still uses an old school projector for her lectures but she is pretty clear on what the class needs to know. keeps everyone engaged. VERY funny. i would definitely take another class with her. bring peanut M&Ms to the first class to get on her good side
Taylor knows her stuff! Always on the ball with questions. Great attitude! She is a little old school and uses an overhead. Handwriting can be difficult to read and she uses abbreviations that will need to be learned. A MUST to attend class! Her notes and lectures are not posted online. Three tests is your entire grade so know everything she says!
Taylor's crazy, but so great. Everything's on the projector so you HAVE to attend class, but she's funny and the topics are interesting anyway. It's sometimes hard to understand her as she speaks so quickly, but by exam day she makes sure you know what to expect. Multiple choice is based off the text so definitely read through the chapters.
Her first year courses are hard, lectures are confusing and extremely hard to follow. Should not be teaching first year.
She's crazy but funny, and she'll make you work for your credits. All her lectures are on a projector, so be prepare to write...a lot! Her mid-terms and finals are based off of her lectures and the boring textbook. She gives two 10min breaks for her 2.5hrs classes, and they're not that bad, just make sure you have coffee before and during her class
It was interesting but long lectures and hard to keep up with the notes sometimes. Her lessons could be a bit vague and confusing, as well studying for the exams was tricky because of this and there was some self teaching from the textbook which she will test you on so read it!
Three exams, no paper, read the text and show up to pass. Easy.
Candace does not care about actual learning from students. This is indicative by her marking style. E.g. marking you WRONG for misspelling an original greek transliteration of a word even if you explain what the real world meaning is, short time limits for exams, and much more. Overall she is engaging, but this may be due to engaging course content
I was unsure about Candace at first, as she comes across as a little nutty (in the best way possible). Number one tip: DON'T SKIP CLASS. All of her lectures are done on an over head projector & test material is mostly on the lectures. Multiple choice is based on textbook. Overall, I enjoyed her class and her funny stories/rants.
Candace is a breath of fresh air. She is rare in that she is "real" - she shares personal stories and is relatable. She's also very funny and knowledgable. Some of the test content seems irrelevant, and she uses an overhead projector and writes the notes for the class the entire time, but overall she's an engaging and kind teacher. Very worthwhile!
Candace Taylor is an absolute hoot. She makes learning fun by incorporating personal stories and inserting jokes into her lectures when student interest starts dropping. While she can be a hard marker, and her courses heavily rely on textbook use, Candace Taylor's courses best prepare 1st year students for whats to come for future courses.
Candace Taylor is the can be very frustrating for a student. She insists on doing all notes on overhead, puts no material online, is hard to understand verbally and her writing is not legible. However, she grades quite fairly and can be comical at times.
Her notes are terrible and hard to follow. She gets off topic a lot and talks about irrelevant and inappropriate things... i think she thinks its funny but im just there to learn, which is hard to do because she talks too much about so many random things that i can barely follow along with the actual material
Dr. Taylor is a great prof and has an abundance of knowledge about psychology. My only complaint about Dr. Taylor is her teaching method. Personally I felt it would be easier for her to just make PowerPoint slides and teach of those but that's just my opinion. Overall she was great and I would recommend her. Take notes in class! 3 exams no papers!
She is great professor, but old fashion. She doesn't use any power point. You shoud be ready for a lot of writing. If you follow her lecture, you should be fine. Her exams are from her lectures. No papers at all. Only 3 exams.
96% of your mark is based on the 3 exams you write and to do well on these you need to attend class. She tells you what kind of questions will be on the exam and what to know. Class can be a little boring but if you take notes on the lecture, you'll be fine. The exams are all non-cumulative. Overall a fairly good class and professor.
Your mark is based on 3 exams worth 30%, and participation. Get tutoring for extra credit. Read the textbook, and be at class, as all her notes are written on an overhead projector. The exams are non-cumulative, and she gives good hints as to what will be on them. She talks nonstop and very fast though, so might take some getting used to. lol.
Every class is just a long lecture, which at times are hard to follow. Would not recommend.
She was honestly a great prof. Super quirky but I had no issues getting a good grade in her class. If you go to class and take good notes and read the text you should have no issues getting a good mark. Make sure you read the text though!
Do not take this class with Candace. I repeat do. not. I am an A plus student and I dont even want to know the grade I am going to get by the end of this class. No matter how hard or well you study, every exam is bs and her notes are unorganised and near impossible to follow. Dont take the chance with her. Save yourself and choose another prof!!
I found it hard to learn in her class, because she seems quite disorganized. She tells you what to study for for exams, but ends up putting things on the exams that we never learned. But, we were given the option to participate in 1.5 hrs of psych experiments rather than complete an assignment. She is very funny and a really kind person though!
She can be a good professor if you're on her good side, she's makes sure to give hints for the exams and answers questions however if you get on her bad side, she can be very unapproachable and this led me to not doing so well the last of half of the semester. Lectures on overhead and be sure to read the textbook and notes.
If you memorize her lecture notes and read the textbook/make notes on it, it is easy to get a good mark if you stay on top of things (unlike the "a plus" student was saying) but with that being said, her notes are v. scattered and unorganized, very lecture heavy/dry, she needs to learn to condense her notes more during lectures.
One of the worst profs I have had at UFV. So hard to keep up with, doesn't provide powerpoint notes & writes notes in front of you on an overhead with messy and scrambled printing. Very scatterbrained & all over the place, really hard to keep up with. Only discusses her own lecture material in class & makes you read textbook on you own for the test
Nobody cares what the words mean in Latin.
read the whole textbook and teach everything to yourself because that is the only way you will get a good grade
quirky and makes a 3 hour class interesting but can feel very long/dry. in order to do well you MUST attend every class, write down every word she says bc just following her notes gets confusing fast, and you NEED to STUDY her handouts. read main concepts in textbook and you're fine. She tells you whats on the exam so STUDY and ur golden
Found her lectures interesting and her random personal stories. But her tests and notes are quite hard to understand. As well you have to read the whole chapter on your own and teach yourself everything in the textbook because she won't go over it in class.
Very funny and quirky prof! You need to attend class to get the notes and understand the key things that will be on the exams. She provides handouts for each subject which helps narrow your focus for studying. However, in order to understand notes, you must be in class. She definitely made the 3 hour lectures interesting with jokes and stories
Everything in the lectures is from the textbook. The tests include lecture notes and textbook material that is not covered in class. Some of the test questions are hard to understand what she wants for an answer. She rambles on a lot about stuff that isn't important.
Tests are composed of lecture material and textbook chapters so you have to show up and read the textbook. The exams are worth 32% of your grade and the questions are confusing. It is not always clear what she is asking you to respond to.
The worst professor I have ever had while attending UFV. Lectures are all over the place, writes illegibly on an overhead and does not use powerpoints. Lectures are all over the place and do not make sense whatsoever. Grading is 100% exam based. If she does not like you she is very unapproachable.
Not very approachable. Lectures are really important to attend to. She adds in her own facts during lectures which will be on the exam- so you need to attend every class! She is hard to understand, and she talks really fast. Overall, she is a decent prof with a lot of knowledge about personality psychology which she has a PHD in.
. Shes definitely a character and can create a fun lecture with her examples but you HAVE to write everything she says because it WILL be on the exam as well as you HAVE to read the textbook. Theres only 3 tests the whole semester and no chance to upgrade with assignments so make sure youre consistently studying!
She is very underrated. Her lectures are long, but she makes them entertaining. There are 3 exams totalling 96% of your grade and 4% participation. If you're good at studying you'll do amazing in this class. She tells you what is going to be on the exam which makes the course so much easier. If you attend every class you will get a good grade.
I was confused when Candace started her psychology class with the nuclear bombings. No, Im not talking about Hiroshima - Im talking about the reading load expectations for a first year class. It caused widespread devastation to my semester. However, she does prepare you for the tests. Make sure you read the textbook.
She makes the three hour lectures very long. She doesnt post the lecture notes as she writes on an old overhead projector. 96% is based on three exams and the other 4% is based on participation in psychology experiments.
Candy makes her lectures as entertaining as she possibly can. Hilarious if you like deadpan sarcasm. Tests make up a great percentage of the course, DO NOT MISS AN EXAM as her missed exam protocol is very unforgiving. Excessive note taking, DO NOT MISS A CLASS. Study your notes very thoroughly. You could probably pass w/out the text.
most reviews here are the baby 101s (as Dr. T calls them) complaining so I hope to offer some upper level insight. Yes! She is a bit old fashioned lecture wise but if you attend her lectures, read the book, take coherent notes, you will do well. Hard to believe if you attend class and actually do work behind it you'd do well, eh?
Candace is nice and funny but her lectures are a monotone. You will need to pay attention or else you will get lost and not understand what shes teaching. She says we need to use our textbook but what part? Never assignes pages or readings just expects us to read. Good to take if youre an independent learner and like to learn on your own.
Candace is a very unique and engaging prof. However, for psych 102, 90% of your grade relies on three exams. The exams were a lot more difficult than I anticipated and requires lots of studying of the class notes, hand outs, and the textbook. Though the class was a lot more difficult than I expected, I definitely learned a lot in this class.
Have to be a specific kind of person to be around her. She only talks about herself in lectures and strays off topic too much for it to be coherant to learn from. Her extremely old fashioned mentality + practices make it impossible in this day and age (i.e. overhead for notes!!) Good if you like all your marks to come from exams and self teaching.
Great lectures. She makes her lectures easy to understand with awesome examples. She's charismatic too, which makes listening to her super easy and fun. Tests. If you pay attention to what's being said in class and read the lecture material (which is captivating), then you'll do fine. dope prof. 10/10 would take again
almost all of class time is spent copying notes that she writes on a projector.. so if you take good (and CLEAR!) notes and don't mind learning that way you'll do just fine in this class. not the most exciting class but she is quite funny and has interesting stories to share. also important to note: most of your grade depends on 3 major exams!
Candace is super accessible outside of class and always responds to all my questions/emails. She is personable and caring when you have one on one time with her. Be aware that 95% of your grade comes from the mid term and the final. You have to buy a big textbook that you'll probably never read. If you like taking notes, this class is all lecture.
She mentioned too many personal and sensitive stories of her which is sometimes so weird and not relevant. Her notes are messy and disorganized. Tests are heavy and graded very harshly especially short answer sections. She expects students to know and remember every single insignificant thing in detail for exams. Talks too fast, all over the places
She has her own language. Be ready to take bunch of notes and chew them before exams. Sharing too many hilarious stuff about her personal life. Talking too fast and not using technology as a teaching and learning tool in this modern century!!!
Candace's classes are content heavy and you have to take notes all class she uses an old school projector to top it all off her handwriting is messy so if you don't follow along to her talking you will not do well on her exams. It would be easier if she used PowerPoints.
Taylor is very funny and tells you exactly what is on the three test that are worth 32% of the class. If you dont like taking note, this class isnt for you. She writes on the board and if you arent there, you cant access them. I used the textbooks a few time.
All lectures are hand written on the board & sometimes it's hard to organize/make sense of what is written. Half of the test is based randomly off excerpts in the textbooks so good luck if you don't like reading textbooks. No hate, but it wasn't my cup of tea. Very funny though.
Candace is a very knowledgeable prof, but has a hard time engaging students. She is quite insensitive when speaking about certain topics (i.e. eating disorders, mental health issues, etc). Her lectures are very dull and hard to follow. Her exams are worded poorly and are quite difficult even if you study the notes/textbook material.
The lectures are often hard to follow, seems to be very disorganized. Don't know what sub topics are being discussed and what bullet points for notes should go where. The course is very test heavy and your grade will be mostly exam based. Not great for those with test anxiety.
Dr. Taylor is definitely on the tougher end of the spectrum in terms of expectations, but she has turned out to be my favourite prof at UFV no matter what grade I will end up with. Her expectations are clear and she is very knowledgeable in the material. Her personality is one of those strict-ish but still sweet attitudes, and also she is hilarious
Prepare for 3 hours of disorganized lectures. She jumps around and it's hard to follow what points go where. She goes on tangents, speaks fast and unclearly at times so it's easy to miss points. She's not clear or concise and doesn't give engaging lectures. You're graded on 3 tests each work about 1/3 of your grade. I wouldn't recommend.
she doesn't know how to engage with students. Her lecture is so complicated that confuse 90% of student. Lack of sympathy, and she gave too much burden on learners. the guideline was so confusing and unclear about the main goal and achievement. She rampage her student by heavy workloads and unreasonable expectation.
Interesting prof. I really did not like her at first but she kind of grows on you. She will use the full 3-hours, and hand-writes her notes (they are not posted anywhere). Her exams are based entirely off of the notes. You have to write a 15 page paper, which she will butcher. I typically get As on my papers, but I got a C. Lucky I took good notes.
The only thing that makes up your grade is 3 tests. The tests are timed and there is not enough time given, I am typically an A student, but not in this class. I only got about 70% of the tests completed in the time given, so when my grades were 60-65% on the tests, I wasn't shocked. But I couldn't've worked faster.
I loved having Dr. Taylor as a teacher. She was funny, and kept the class engaged. Her stories were comical and I enjoyed them very much. I look forward to taking a class with her again. Her outfits are also pretty cute :) I know she reads these reviews, so if you see this, thank you! Loved your class
Course lectures do not align with exams or textbook Professor goes off topic and includes personal information that is not appropriate Grades extremely hard so even if you study hard it won't matter impersonable
Dr. Taylor, while very knowledgeable and "hip," was a bit of a handful to say the least. I respect that she knows not everyone likes her teaching style but it was difficult being a first year student in this course. Her comments/stories were very distracting and some were more aggressive than passive. Exams questions didn't always make sense either
There were no assignments, the entirety of your final grade is based on the 3 different exams. Also, her "lectures" are just handouts which you read on your own along with the textbook readings which was quite unhelpful. Sometimes the exam questions didn't make sense, but she did give bonus marks for some. Overall, wouldn't recommend this class.
91% of your grade in this class is based on the exams alone which make it quite difficult. The exam questions also occasionally don't make a lot of sense either. She does respond fast if you have any questions which was nice but her teaching style makes it stressful, especially if you are a first year.
If you're in first year in university do not take this prof! Her lectures are interesting, I feel like I did learn a lot. Unfortunately, her tests are really complicated and do not correlate with any of the lecture. Even if you study really hard, you will still not do well.
I was extremely disappointed with this professor. Majority of your final grade will come from three exams (which are difficult to understand). Her teaching style is rather negligent, there were no zooms and we only had readings. The readings were hard to follow as she includes personal stories that are irrelevant and personal. Do not take her class
Catherine was inaccessible outside of class and had very heavy lectures. She did not post any of her lectures online and your entire grade is based on three exams and one psychology experiment you had to partake in. I would not recommend taking psychology with her.
Taking this class was the biggest mistake of my life. Your entire grade is based off of 3 incredibly difficult and confusing exams. She seems like she would be a decent teacher in person, but definitely not online. She doesnt post lecture videos, just puts out word document lectures, that are confusing and difficult to read. Do not recommend
Her teaching style might not be for everyone, but I think her humor gets taken the wrong way by people. She's funny and you can tell she enjoys teaching. Her assessments aren't unfair, but they are difficult. Dedicate time to revising because the exams are quite detailed - know the content(text incl.). Good class, very interesting, but challenging.
I really enjoyed her teaching when I took her course in person. She has got to be the worst online teacher though. Nothing posted until 3 weeks into the course and 90% of your grade is made up by poorly worded and confusing exams.
Professor Taylor needs to type her course work professionally. She's rarely formal, and the lectures are often inappropriately involve personal matters. It makes her lectures painful to dissect and write notes. Tests/Exams are also difficult to follow, as the same informal language is used, and it's easy to misunderstand when reading them.
This class was the worst experience of my university career thus far. The lazy informal word doc Lectures with confusing slang and inappropriate personal stories made learning the material incredibly painful. Her tests include the same informal and unprofessional language which made them hard to understand. Do not recommend to anyone.
Dr. T is defs not your typical prof. She is quite funny and can be blunt /rudish at times. She is quite reasonable... most of the time. There are 3 exams and time is super limited for them. If you want to do well in this class (as I did), you MUST properly prepare by studying/revising even if the exam is online! Challenging but you can do well!
worst professor ever. she doesn't teach. she gives bad notes with her stupid abbreviations. She doesn't give grades, doesn't answer questions. Trust me I have a GPA of 4.12 and it fell badly because of her course.
She does not make lecture slides and instead makes you copy her notes from her messy handwriting. She does not post anything to blackboard unless the class is online. Her tests do not correlate with what she teachers what so ever and after studying on Quizlet for an upcoming test I noticed she used that a lot for her testing. Avoid this prof!!
Dr. Taylor is a mixed bag. On one hand, her ability to answer questions via email or other means is very useful; on the other, she does not make actual lecture notes (and when she does, they are quite messy and at least a quarter of it is personal anecdotes). She marks quite hard, and you need to have both lecture and text material for the exams.
Professor taylor is super quirky but puts so much effort and time into her lectures/material she teaches. She hand writes all her lectures, but if you are taking notes and paying attention to what she says during her lectures, as well as reading the assigned chapters you will do fine. the exams consist of both textbook and her notes/lectures.
I like her as a person, but I would never recommend her classes. She expects a ridiculous amount of memorization (from percentages of distributions in random studies to personal anecdote details, yes for tests). Be ready to memorize the textbook. Her lectures are okay, funny at times, though her notes on the board are useless.
Worth the money spent? Absolutely not, if you want to be marked on 3 exams only then I guess take this class. Candace loved to use 'slang' which was a struggle for taking notes. You will have to ask a lot of questions to actually understand what she means and what she is taking about as she struggles to explain and scramble.
-notes are messy and unclear -cant talk in class or she will say something -WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN
lots of lecture material Tests are worth basically your whole grade so make sure ur studying for a while not worth ur time if ur busy and taking more than one class! dropped my gpa
Do not waste your time and money on Candace. Period. Candace used "slang" in emails and lectures which were hard to follow and confusing. Rely on the textbook. Her notes were not good and are better explained in the textbook. Your whole grade is worth 3 exams only and she has openly admitted that she does not want to be there, so, save yourself.
Dr.Taylor writes all of her notes on the white board and uses abbreviations that she created herself b/c she has carpal tunnel. Ok, then why not type it out? Her lecture notes are all over the place. Tests are a combination of the textbook & in-class lectures but they ask the MOST difficult questions. Don't take her class.
Very old school teacher. All lectures are written on the board, and there is barely any use of online or blackboard postings of lectures. Very difficult to stay engaged when we are writing for 3 hours straight, with no use of other learning techniques. Very exam heavy her tests are quite hard to navigate especially if you struggle with exams.
She gives some chances to get extra marks (big 5, ect). Most marks for the class is her main 3 exams. The test is 50/50 lecture and textbook. She responds quick to emails and will always help out with questions. The lectures are all written on the board. You get breaks evenly throughout, the rest is note taking. READ the textbook and youll be ok :)
She made homophobic comments, and her exams are really hard to read.
This was a great class. Don't get me wrong, it is very test heavy but I loved this class. She's an amazing lecturer and the 3hrs flies by. She gives two 10min breaks for the class and is very approachable. This was a hard class and a big paper but I'd 100% recommend.
Just awful do not recommend, way too many sexual innuendos and personal opinions for you to be comfortable. Very test heavy and no chances to make up for lost grade.
The lectures can be messy and the grading heavily dependent on the 3 exams. But with some discipline, the textbook, and tools like unstuck AI, you can get through this class. Just be ready for a challenge!
Just don't, for an intro, 101 class, it is stupidly difficult. She has no online presence and writes everything by hand on the board, your entire grade is based on 3 tests that she gives little guidance for. She is super funny though and she always dresses cute. Still Crazy...
i dropped out of university all together with one of my major reasons being prof taylor. as someone with learning disabilities she acts like they don't exist and dosent go the extra mile to explain, just makes me feel stupid. on my final test i took before dropping she told me i should just drop out there's no use. that sure made me feel great..
