Helpful and patient. Energetic.
History of Graphic Design - a great first class in GD, lots of extra credit opps and exciting field trips. FUN, FUN, FUN
Hands down, Candice is the best teacher I have ever had.
I enjoyed the art was exposed to interesting midiums. Your effort and attendance is a factor in your final grade not just your artistic abilities or limitations.
Thanks for everything
The class was History of Graphic Design. She is an excellent teacher, the quality of her classroom is truly meant for students of Art Center. We're lucky to have her at City.
Easiness? What a stupid category. Don't be a designer if you want easy. Candice will push you to do things you didn't think you could do. She favors hard-workers and people who get involved. In other words, people who are going to be successful in the futu
what? a professor who actually is an expert in her field? Amazing woman! SHe has taught all around the world and has a world of stories and lessons for you. This was supposed to be the worst class for art. I Loved it thanks to her! dont miss out on a great professor and a great class!
She's ok- if you like being ignored because your work isn't more of her own personal taste.I would wait to talk to her in class but she would never have time for me, it was like that a lot. I would ask her if i could email my work to her to look over but she would say "oh don't bother because i'll be busy all weekend." Gee thanks!
IF you are a hardworker she is more than helpful. I took her last year and porfolio and that class was hard. She did have favorites but like I said she appreciates hard work and thoughfulness that you put into your work.
Well you must not be talking about the same Candice Lopez I met, an ultra amazing teacher, super passionate, well known in this field, she broguht us so many famous designers to teach us for free. She just doen's like it when students are mediocre and don't give their 100% in class. She's not stupid
This class was very interesting, I took the class on line and she was pretty clear and on top of the schedule. The tests were not too hard. The spreads where tedious but SOO useful on the tests AND in life! Overall the class was not hard, but it took time and creativity. Really liked her, super nice and always available to chat with.
She values hard work and commitment. She understands design and how it translates in your work. Very intuitive and nurturing. Very passionate and is always trying to inspire her students to the best of her ability by providing endless information on the industry and guest appearances from pros. Had her for several classes and is very thankful.
Excellent is the single word that describes this class. If you want to learn about design, and take a class taught in a fun and interesting way, take this class.
Teaching is a skill and many people who are teaching may be good at their trade, but not good teachers. Ms Lopez is a good teacher and knows how to engage students as well as help them to learn. The GD History class is fabulous-I highly recommend it. It is difficult - there is a lot of material and many projects in a short time, but you learn a LOT.
Candice is absolute treasure 2 have as your teacher/mentor.She will help u with anything u might need 2 make your portfolio the best it can be.She appreciates people in class who care about their future & about design. She will find extra time 2 help you if you are serious and passionate.I have learned important design and life lessons in this class
LOVE HER! Candice is the greatest of the great. She is not the nicest teacher you've ever met, but she is the most awesome one who knows how to guide you to make the most of yourself. I never ever knew any teacher who care her/his students' works so much like her. Believe in her every single word, they might be a little bit cruel, but always true!
When I first saw History of Graphic Design listed I figured it would be a sleeper class, basically art history. I was wrong. There is a lot of work to do but the projects are great skill building tasks and Candice is extremely helpful whenever you need help. This is not a boring class, it?s interesting and challenging.
I took History of Graphic Design online. This was my first online class, and I was a bit nervous as I'm not that great with computers. But the professor was outstanding in guiding me through any big project step by step. You need to pace yourself and stay organized with the projects, but it was one fun class. I highly recommend this professor!!!!
Took 8 week online Graphic Design History class. Mrs. Lopez is a great teacher who is more than fair w/her grading/assignments. The class was not too hard and not too easy and her method of teaching really works. I would definitely take another class from her. Also she doesn't make you use the latest version of the textbook which helps save $$!
I studied with Prof. Candice Lopez off and on at San Diego City College from about 2005 -2010. When I arrived at SDCC, I had a bit of a swell head thinking I knew everything about design. Prof. Lopez gently set me straight, and with her help, I got into the graduate school of my choice. An incredible, inspiring teacher!
Amazing teacher. Very dedicated to her students and always pushing to make their work better.
Absolutely the best teacher I've ever ever had. She knows basically everyone in the design world, and has her pulse on what is happening currently. So incredibly passionate about design, it's infectious.
Candice is insanely GREAT. She is so passionate and if you put in the time and show her your want to succeed and have a good attitude, she will help you even more! This is a next level professional. Learn as much as you can from her.
I've taken numerous classes with Candice (History of Graphic Design, Portfolio Building, and Portfolio B), and Candice has continuously exceeded my expectations. Her passion for teaching is inspiring, and her determination to help her students succeed is beyond impressive. She also has an amazing sense of design. Take her classes!
I was skeptical about taking an online calss until I have taken this class. Professor Lopez very quick at replying to emails; furthermore, she wouild even make videos to help you!!. Str8 foward instructions and grading system. I'm more of a hands on learner, but she will give you a mideterm and final that is visual. I learned a lot from this course.
Candice rocks!
This class was easy and fun. Teacher would edit work and provide good feedback. I recommend!
Awesome professor. Very helpful. She goes above and beyond by providing personal video clips to help you excel. Fast grader, Follows exactly what is in the syllabus. If you do the work you will succed. Gives plenty of extra credit to make up for missed assignments. The awesome thing I took from this class is to be able to identify the types of art.
Very helpful instructor. You have something due every week but it's nothing too difficult. Took the class in 8 weeks online. Easiest way to get an "art" class for your GE out of the way. And you learn so much!
I took the "History of graphic art design" online and as a 8-week class. She is very passionate, she knows everyone in the design world, and she takes much effort to provide you help&feedback. She makes a video for every chapter, so it's a little bit like meeting with her in person. But don't underestimate the time you will need for this class!!
Class! Candice Was amazingly clear and concise. Very helpful Great and made the material we studied super interesting. The videos posted on the course were easy to follow. I loved this course!
Well versed in the graphic design arena, extremely knowledgeable and helpful. She will help you come out of your shell and learn!
Candice, has been a gift to us; a treasure, to be sure. As a team, she and Sean traded critiques like Shakespearean Clowns trade witty repartee, and synthesized each project to a powerful distillation. They are alchemists, turning petty raw materials into design gold.
Candice has so much excitement for teaching graphic design hist. I am an Info Systems major taking it as an elective but it is my favorite class I have taken so far. You will learn how to identify historic graphic art styles and see how "modern" styles are simply variations of those. It is actually very interesting. You will enjoy it!
Inspiring. Passionate. She changes lives every day!
Candice is an extraordinary professor who will do everything she can to help you succeed in her class. I took the intensive 8-week online class and worked very hard non-stop. She works even harder and inspires you all the way. It was my first Graphic Design class and I can’t believe how much I learned.
Candice is the best professor to begin your GD classes, she will push you and inspire you all the way. As far as the 8-week class, she will make it super easy for you. I haven't met a professor like her, she will do anything in her power to help you achieve your goals.
Candice & Sean will push you and inspire you till the end of portfolio. I haven't met any professors like Candice & Sean, they will do anything. Candice inspired me to continue to be a designer and to always be grateful and humble in this career. Having her as a professor was one of the best things that happened to me at City College.
Great teacher. She puts a lot of work into her online class and it shows. She gives great feedback on your assignments, often with video or audio. It's not an easy A, you definitely need to put in the work. That being said, she offers you a chance for early feedback to make corrections, and for extra credit if you miss a few points her or there.
I took Graphic Design History with Candice, it was the VERY FIRST TIME I enjoyed and understood an online class. The material is very interesting and making the journal (final project) was very fun. If you like art, you are definitely enjoy this class. Candice is very kind and gives you positive feedback. Never saw her but shes one of the best tea
Candice is the best! Friendly, kind, funny, sexy. Do the work, get her feedback and have a blast!
ART 100 was especially wonderful this semester because Candice taught it. We covered so much material and had enough time to execute. We had amazing guest speakers and a hand full of class trips. It was just exceptional. I consider myself lucky. If you're taking this class, you should be excited!
C-Lo was a great teacher, very inspirational if you are looking to move into the GD field. Has a lot of connects and does field trips to different studios. Do the work early because if you turn it in she will revise and its a guaranteed "A" if you make the changes. midterm and final are taken at home online which means open bookinternet.
Professor Lopez is a top notch teacher who goes above and beyond to see her students succeed. I am not a art major, and I was able to succeed in this class receiving an A. If you work hard, and listen to her feedback she will not steer you in the wrong direction. You will have a mid term and a final, 5 Discussion boards, and a final project!
Candice Lopez totally exceeded my expectation in this course. Although it was an online class, she was able to communicate with me like an on campus class. Candice has a fool proof technique that will help you understand the History of Graphic Design. Truly amazing.
This class was quizzes and a huge project took it online had to complete a 30 page slide show. I invested about 7 hours a week to this course and got an A. This class is time consuming a lot of editing and taking time to find and insert correct images and information from the correct are time eras. I really enjoyed the course and learned a lot! :)
She's very good professor. She gives early, clear and detail feedback to help you do your assignment s and correct mistakes. Textbook isn't required because her video lectures are very clear. She has optional assignments for extra credit, clues for tests. Follow her video lectures, instruction and feedback, you can get A easily .
I took this class for GE and didn't know much about art and styles in the beginning. I really have to say, this was one of the most enjoyable classes I have taken in college. I really learned a lot and had fun doing it. Candice is such a helpful person and really shows her dedication into this class. The class was very well organized.
Candice Lopez has a passion for graphic art and it comes through in her lectures, organization, and personalized feedback. I truly enjoyed her course. Her passion and enthusiasm are contagious. Even though this was an online course, I felt like I was in her classroom. Her video feedback is invaluable and she is definitely there for her students.
She's not kidding when she says she loves making videos. She will make a video tutorial for everything which is extremely helpful if this is your first time using Photoshop. She also makes a feedback video where she will walk you through every thing she wants changed. I never used the book but she does have an extra copy in class &takes attendance.
Ms. Lopez was the best teacher I've ever had. Not only is she very friendly, but she is very clear with all instructions and gives helpful, prompt feedback. She made the Graphic Design History class very interesting and infused fun and creativity into the course.
I love this class. Although it was an online class I felt like I was in the classroom. she is excellent. only 2 test. and they are really easy. The journal is the hard part, but she will help you if you need. you have the option to send her a draft of you journal before submitting through assignments, so you can have full points. Easy A
Candace is a very caring and meticulous professor. Her help links and pages on her blackboard assignment section is just full of examples, videos, people to talk to, etc. Just about anything that you might need to be able to work with basic graphic arts tools online as well as the concepts of the design history. She will help you.
Professor Lopez is passionate about Art Design and her vast pool of knowledge allows her to present topics from a unique place of wisdom. To be honest, the class was much more immersive than I expected from an online class and I was afraid of not being able to keep up, but the professor is dedicated to helping her students succeed.
I enjoyed taking Art Graphic Design History with Candice. She's tech-savvy and very knowledgable about the field. Her passion for Graphic Design showed through her interesting lectures.
Absolutely loved ARTG118. If your looking for an insightful class into design history, this is the one. She's and excellent professor, who actually takes the time to give feedback on an online course which I cant say Ive seen the same amount of effort from other teachers. Would highly recommend taking this class with her as the professor.
Professor Lopez is an amazing teacher. I took her Art 118 (Graphic Design History) course and really enjoyed the class. She does a great job of making the course interesting, challenging, and rewarding. You learn by doing in this class. The projects and discussions are awesome. Absolutely recommend this professor and course.
Prof Lopez's style tuned me into this class and without reading the book, I learned about design history. Candice does a good job of responding to student's works and I loved working on the Design History Journal. She definitely attends to students' needs and wants you to succeed.
Professor Lopez is awesome! Her class was very straight forward and made learning the material exciting. Her feedback on assignments is phenomenal and all the assignments are easy to follow. She genuinely cares about her students. I would recommend taking Professor Lopez to everyone.
Had a couple of Issues with the course work and got immediate positive feedback. Clear examples of your work being good or bad and suggestions on improvement! Extra work to make up bad grades! Really solid teacher that loves the material and teaching!
Love this teacher. As long as you try your best on the project and study for the tests, you will get a great grade.
This 8 week, accelerated course is by far one of the best classes Ive ever taken. Professor Lopez does an amazing job at keeping her students on top of assignments, well prepared for tests, and engaged in the overall learning material. Additionally, she gives you lots of great feedback on how you can improve your assignments & get the best grade.
I was pleasantly surprised by how fulfilling this class was. She provided video lectures on every chapter and then some. I was taking this class to fulfill a requirement but I ended with a newfound interest in graphic design. She is extremely passionate about the subject and truly wants to positively impact every student. I was so blown away.
Hi ok so being my second semester in college I took Art118 in class and moved online for my spring semester, she's genuinely one of the most amazing professors on campus; She knows her material and can help you so much to improve in graphic design. The class isn't hard as long as you do your work, she's always willing to help.
Professor Candice is not only amazing in the way she teaches, but she also knows the designers in the book herself. Her video lectures are long but they explain in full detail of what each art movement was about. I did just fine on exams from her video lectures alone and I only used my textbook to do my graphic journal/spreads assignment.
I was incredibly overwhelmed the first time I logged into the online class- it is a LOT of information to look at. The class is SOSOSO much more doable than all of the text makes it look. Prof Lopez is very helpful and you do not need the special application (WORD worked great!) and you don't really need the book. Would recommend.
The class looks very daunting, but get through the first week and you'll be fine. Candice gives practically everything you need to succeed. Work on the journal and send her drafts often to get feedback. That way when it is due you have nothing to worry about. Tests were easy, so glad I could take an actual ART class, not a history course.
I took this class online. At first you see a lot of things on blackboard but its mostly the professor providing information about the class and the projects. She always responds emails and gives good feedback. The class is not hard but its time consuming when you get to the spreads. She is a really good professor, I would definitely take her again
Took this class on campus and online. Professor really knows her styles and she is very nice! She made me want to consider majoring in graphic design. Journal is pretty easy to do as long as you dont procrastinate. She replies fast if you have any questions or want feedback on your work! Would definitely take her again! Shes one of the best!
Her class is extremely organized, with frequent reminders. She was so understanding and she replied to all of my emails within the hour! Her video feedback for your online project is so thorough because she wants you to do well! The class is worth 100 points and she offers at least 10 in points extra credit! I would definitely take her again!
super helpful and positive
When you study with Candice, you discover and learn how to use your talent. She will encourage you how to think like a professional designer. Her goal is always for you to create the best work that you can and to get ready to work in the industry. I never had a class more organized and more inspiring like hers.
Very intelligent professor, definitely has a wealth of design expertise.
I'm a high school student and this was one of my first college courses. Professor Lopez was a good mentor and I got a lot out of this class.
I took this professors class twice first earning a D then an A and as any other student at first I blamed the prof and not myself. The professor gets back promptly and really does want her students to succeed. If you choose this class be prepared to work and to be on track with the class and you will succeed. Thank you for a great summer!
A sweet person but she stands and lectures the entire two hours of the course without stopping for a minute, she sounds as if she is recording an audio book with her slow pace and she flips through slides, that's it. Reminded me of sitting through church & was hard to stay focused bc of this. If u struggle with long lectures, skip. I regret taking
Really organized professor who keeps class interesting with awesome lectures and helpful feedback on projects. I took the class on campus and really liked the way she teaches design style and asks questions to help you know what you see. There is lots of interaction and she gets you into museums free to see actual work you study. Great class!
This was one of my first classes at SDCC and it was a breeze! Took Lopez online 8 week course. Discussion due every Friday, final project, midterm + final. Stay on top of your work, this class is an easy A. She gives great feedback online but will also meet in person. I was unfamiliar w/ graphic design(only took this class for credit) & left w an A
It was the best class Ive ever had! There are several things I would recommend it for: (1) video lessons provided by professor Lopez are available on the phone, so you can listen to them anytime, (2) working on the journal was the most interesting and creative part, (3)professor along with the lab professionals are there for you if you need help.
This class was very easy, so definitely easy credit. She says textbook required but I only used it for one assignment in which we had to talk about an art piece that wasnt in the textbook, so if you know someone in class that has it you can just ask for pictures of that chapter and save the money cause the book is huuuuuuge
She is very fair and very understanding. I was able to get my grade from a B- to an A with the extra credit. There is a lot of work but it is manageable. Overall this class was fun and gave good experience.
Candice has a contagious charisma I could feel even over Zoom. Just being around her made me want to do amazing work. She is encouraging, supportive, and incredibly dedicated and has extensive experience and knowledge of design. The personalized mentorship she gave us in ART133 really improved my skills and took my design work to a higher level.
Art118 is by far the most helpful graphic design course I've taken so far. Prof. Lopez cares about her students and truly wants you to succeed. The bulk of the work is a Graphic Design History journal of all the different historical movements. Not only was it fun to design, I also learned so much and have a great portfolio addition. 10/10
Very organized, even gave us a schedule so we knew what was due and where we should be every week. Her lectures are on youtube and full of great info. It was a fun learning experience learning the history. She gave great feedback, on time, & was really nice. The journal was straightforward, gave plenty of opportunity for early feedback to help.
Graphic Design History was an incredibly interesting and fun class. The class consists of group discussions, a midterm and final, and a journal that you construct throughout the course. Professor Lopez was warm and gracious with feedback. She is quick to respond and is very helpful. She is approachable and has incredible design knowledge.
Have strong logic and clear teaching materials, very respectful. Patiently and carefully give you very creative suggestions. She is an amazing teacher. Highly recommended.
I took this class for my CSU GE Breath and I really really enjoyed it. The book wasnt really needed so dont waste your money on it. She spells out the projects for you and gives AMAZING feedback so you are prepared. Workload was light and it was a lot of fun. Watch all the videos and youll do fine. She is very kind and passionate about her art!
You can really tell she's passionate about what she teaches. Everything is super clear too- including the final project in which she basically lays out the entire thing for you. Don't bother with the textbook though it isn't needed. The video lectures are the majority of the "work" aside from the midterm/final and project. Definitely recommend her.
Candices ARTG 118 Graphic Design History course was outlined and all her expectations are clear in her class syllabus. Get ready to watch her fantastic videos as each talks about the artist, their style and what to look for that differentiates ione art movement from another. Its a great learning experience that will open your eyes to design
Candice is a very thoughtful teacher. I prefer how she organized the class with the InDesign project and focus on the styles. I feel it was more productive in learning as opposed to some history classes being focused on "busy work" but not remembering anything much from it. Far more effective to take this class. Glad I did!
Definitely worth to take her classes because Professor Lopez is really passionate. I enjoyed being in her class even though it was asynchronous, it was easy to follow and learn her course. The practice exam and video before midterm and finals are really helpful too.
Candice is not only a great instructor, she's deeply embedded in the design scene in San Diego and beyond. Her approach to the course itself is a hybrid model, with emphasis divided between recognizing characteristics across major historical design movments and the implementation of good design choices in assignments themselves. Highly recommend!
This class will open your eyes to design styles and push your creativity. Candice quickly gets lots of feedback to you, cares and wants you to succeed. Her lectures are engaging and on youtube so you can access from your computer or phone. She makes videos to guide you through the projects and I learned a lot.
She likes to use lots of jargons that makes graphic art history much difficult to understand. If she explained easier with simple words, I would've learned and understood clearer, faster and possibly enjoyed graphic art history much better. After taking her classes, the subject became my least favorite thanks to how bored her classes were.
I took Professor Lopez's class this past Spring, and she was wonderful!! She has a vast knowledge of the subject, clearly cares about her student's success, and was always very willing to help. I never waited more than a day for her to respond to a message. She also gave very clear directions and her course/canvas page was well-organized. 10/10!
Just completed Design History this summer and it was terrific. Projects were fun and she responds fast with videos to guide you on your projects. Keeps you on track with clear feedback that is helpful and easy to follow. There are 2 tests, and a project about the styles covered. Took this class for general ed credit and had a great experience.
The professor's lectures were engrossing. Chapters were covered in a clear manner that evoked a sense of the eras being covered and left me wanting to know more. Assignments were given thoughtful responses and criticism was provided with clarity; I didn't feel any ambiguity about what was needed to complete and receive a good grade on assignments.
I loved working on the final project all semester, she also gives video feedback on your work so you know exactly what she's looking for. I took over the summer so it was fast paced, but overall an easy and relatively laid back class.
I took this class because of the good comments it had. I would definitely not take it again. She doesn't care for you, she just leaves a lot of homework and very heavy. She returns jobs to you many times because nothing meets her expectations. It was in the only class that I had problems. I do not recommend taking it.
Candice is a great professor! She's super clear in her approach to the subject and grading, which makes the class easy to follow and understand. She's amazing at giving feedback and getting you excited about your work in the class, which is very motivating. Her love of the subject is contagious. I'd love to take any class that she teaches!
Loved the class, definitely would take it agian
Great professor! Professor Lopez is caring, knowledgeable and welcoming. There is one big assignment due at the end of the semester, so hardly any homework. A couple quizzes, spread throughout the course, the mid-term and final weren't hard; all assignments are a no-brainer as long as you pay attention in class or just watch the slideshows.
Awesome instructor!
Prof. Candice is so inspirational! And in terms of hw, as long as you finish the canvas disc throughout the sem and work on your journal-you're good to go! The mid term and final was very thorough, so u should be good :D Only downside is that 99% of the time in class, she plays videos that sometimes made me drift away
I think she hit the nail on the head when it comes to her lectures. All of her lectures were so presentable and inspirational. Some of her lecture videos on YouTube showed her inspirational stories. She assigned homework that was meant to be less stressful. She usually gave us video feedback about our projects so we can revise them.
She is amazing! She gave great feedback via videos. We didn't need to buy the textbook, instead she made fantastic videos for each chapter. She gives ample opportunities to help all students succeed. She's very accessible and approachable. She gave deadlines for early feedback. Lastly, she was so highly complimentary and encouraging!
The professor cares about your grade and allows late work. However, assignments are due at noon on weekdays, which is inconvenient. The required app for the final project isn't compatible with all devices, creating an unfair disadvantage. Overall, she's alright, but the course setup needs work.
You will enjoy and learn so much about different styles of design. She cares about her students and gives incredible feedback using video on your projects. There are many chances for extra credit and things are clear and well organized. We also went to a museum and had talks and demos by professional designers, game designers and illustrators.
