I have never enjoyed a course more than this one, and I'm not even a criminology major. I would take any class with Dr. Skrapec.
She's ultra slow and repeats everything not once, not twice, but usually thrice. Tests are pretty easy if you study a little. She also has a knack for being melodramatic. I'd drop her if I were you.

This class had very interesting information although it was presented in a very boring manner using power point. If you want to pass this class you must study and do the reading.
Pretty boring. I thought it would be interesting but all she talked about was law and nothing psychology related or interesting really. I had an 89 or so and I got a B. So. Yeah. She's a stickler.

Approachable and wonderful to talk to.
Class started out boring first month or so...after that it was very interesting. She is a good teacher, interesting material. However its not and easy 'A', studying and attendance is required. Best teacher I had last semester. Also, she has an open stu

She was such a ****! She would not help out anyone. She had not a care in the world for her students. Most students failed the tests and not care. Her final paper was a joke, and I did all of the requirements / components and she said I was off topic cause she did not agree with me of what case I chose for the case that was assigned to me. Am I bitter! YES!
i would send her emails she never sent one back, and when i would try to talk to her she would not answer my question directly
Has major temper problems!
I liked this class, I thought it was interesting. The tests were pretty challenging though, you have to study. I got my first C in this class, although I didn't mind because it was a little tough... I should have studied more. But I liked her and the class a lot.
She is a very experienced knowledgable professor and makes her lectures very interesting. She talks about what she has done or experienced, not what she has studied in some book, anybody can do that. She uses real life examples, videos, and current events to keep every class riveting!
She was just a sweetheart! I learned a lot from her and when you get to know her as a person, you get to learn more about the interesting world to criminology. Hard to take course (don't take more than 12 unit if you're going to take her class). Use a tape recorder because she talks fast :)
Class is pretty easy...PowerPoints give you all the info you need for the tests, plus she gives a study guide. Do not bother buying the textbook - save money and buy the online book - you only use it a few times to get answers for the study guide. Class is very interesting and Prof Skrapec is enthusiastic.
Awsome
Great teacher! She has a lot of first hand experience and she is very knowledgeable about the subject matter. Makes the subject matter relevant and interesting and exciting. She uses many different types of presentations to keep interest level high. Extremely fair in grading. She gives a study guide for the tests which are very valuable in prep
Skrapec knows her stuff! She is extremely passionate about the material so don't let her know if you haven't been following the material. There are only 2 tests and not that much work, so you have to do well to get a good grade. She does provide a study guide which helps emmensely. I wish she taught all the Crim classes!
Dr. Skapek is a very good professor. She is very interested and animated in what she does. Attendance was not mandatory but I was never absent because I really enjoyed her class. Definatly not a boring class or a boring teacher. 99% of her test questions are from lecture, so if you attend her class an A or B is very gettable.
class was very interesting. I would recommend her. She kinda has a temper problem. She gives a study guide which is helpful. Must study hard to do well on her test. 2 midterms and a final with multiple choice and one essay question. Overall, a pretty easy class
I was really enjoying the course until Skrapec embarassed me in front of the class for no good reason. I think she's a very good teacher, but not exactly a very good person.
VERY knowledgable and fair. Tests are derived from lecture notes. She uses excellent examples, clear illustrations, and compelling storytelling. All of it makes for one great GE class. Don't miss out on this once in a lifetime educational experience.
Awesome Instructor. Awesome Class! Was never bored listening to her! The material is not hard if you read the text and show up to class.
AWESOME teacher. It's clear that she loves the material and she gets so excited about it that you can't help but be interested. She's a smart, fun, well-informed teacher that enthusiastic about teaching. The material isn't hard either. Just show up and take notes. I highly recommend her.
She's incredible. You can tell she loves what she's teaching. The cases can be disturbing, but it real opens your eyes to some of the most horrible things we're surrounded by and be aware of them. Class was once a wk, so, attendance should be a must.
She's pretty good. She really likes teaching. I would take her again. She's just a huge hard ass on plagarism. She will kick you out of the program and get you expelled if you plagarise even on accident. Her first essay is a plagarism exercise. If you plagarise on that, then she will warn you. After that exercise, you get no more warnings.
Extremely good teacher! she's got skill! very enthused about the subject matter. Very interesting discussions. Favorite teacher so far at CSUF. Had a few talks with her outside of class. very interesting, not boring at all..Highly recommended!!!
i took psych of crime with her. she is so passionate about what she does and she has experienced a lot to do with this subject and is very knowledeable. i would definitely take a class with her again!
Interesting class, not an Easy A if you dont show up. Attendance is not mandatory
Knowledgeable and articulate but unfortunately unreasonable when it comes to test-writing and essay grading. She expects a lot from her students (as she should) yet will waste an entire class period on "going over" APA format. Don't expect your paper to be returned in a timely fashion either(over 5 weeks and counting here for a 3 page paper).
her lectures keep you interested throughout the class session. she is a great teacher. her exams are a bit hard, but if you pay attention in class you should do fine.
Very passionate and knowledgeable about criminology. Provides personal anecdotes about her experience interviewing serial killers. Minimial writing assignments. Multiple-choice exams, provides study guides. I would suggest that students rent or check out the textbook. We only used selected pages from different chapters.
Knowledgeable in her field but don't expect any of your work to be graded and given back took you. Zero feedback, unless you are lucky to get a paper back that she surely has bled all over (red ink). Nice, firm, and sensitive Dr. Skrapec's classes require some work but can provide valuable lessons about those who comit crime.
Great professor! Didn't have to write one paper at all for this course, she's very passionate about it and if you need help she will help you!!! Awesome teacher!!!
AMAZINGGGGG. I would love to take her again no matter what the class is. She is very clear and does a great job of teaching. Anyone that says they didn't get an A just didn't take good notes and didn't study. Her study guides do a great job of preparing you for tests and she is a very fair grader. Learned a lot. Loved her.
Psych of crime prof. Wickedly interesting class, I enjoyed every second of it and was sad when she canceled a few times. Lecture is everything. She was one of the best lecturers I have ever encountered; I hung on every word. If you like psych and crime and serial killers, this class is a must.
teacher really knows her stuff. very passionate about subject. tests are unclear. must take notes on absoultely EVERYTHING she says so you need to be in ALL classes to do well. 100 points total all semester. NO ROOM FOR ERROR!!! no homework. three tests. two 5pt. writing assignments. GOOD LUCK keeping up!
This class is very interesting, however, it is also very intense. You must take notes on literally EVERYTHING that she states. She definitely has study guides, but it practically says "know everything". The only reason why it's tough is because she wants to make sure you learn something from this class, which you most definitely will! RECOMMEND!
Very interesting class, but instructor is super strict and exams were difficult. Class grade is mainly from exams.
She is a good professor but a bit biased. The class is difficult in that there are only 100 possible points. 90 come from tests and 10 come from in class writing assignments. She grades really hard on the writing assignments. Overall, pretty cool, just don't miss a single class.
Course consists of 3 exams and 1 Group presentation. Her tests are not difficult; however, first test class' mean score was 71%. I believe she is the only one that teaches this course. This course is a requirement for the FBS option in Criminology.
This professor is very passionate about her job, but she is super strict. Her grading is very hard. Record everything she says, write everything she posts up, Read the textbook because everything will be on the tests. 2 Tests, 1 final, 2 written assignments. Study guides are ridiculously long!! I would recommend another class for G.E. :(
She can be rude at times. I emailed her asking a question and got the most annoyed response. Her tests are tough as well. Study everything on the study guides and write down everything she says in class. She hates phones and will kick you out if it goes off during class. But, she knows her stuff and would definitely recommend her for this class.
Extremely knowledgeable. One of the brightest minds in the field of criminology.
Candice Skrapec is amazing!! Absolutely loved her. She is extremely experienced in forensic psychology and incredible stories about the people she's met from world-wide respected psychologists and researchers to infamous serial killers! First class I've ever had where I looked at the clock and hoped we had MORE time left. Phenomenal woman!
Dr. Skrapec's classes are very interesting, detailed and you can clearly see her passion for area of expertise. This class was definitely hard and studying is a MUST, but you'll feel so accomplished in the end. The material is exciting so you won't get bored. GO TO CLASS AND KEEP YOUR PHONES TURNED OFF.. She doesn't play when it comes to phones.
STUDYING is key to passing this course. Make sure to you master great note taking and you should pass the course successfully. If you take her night class those 2-3 hours fly by since the class is so interesting. Overall an amazing course and professor.
Dr. Skrapec is a nice professor that is passionate about what she does. Her lectures are interesting but that doesn't take away the fact that the class WILL BE HARD if you do not read. You really need to read in order to pass her class. Her study guides are super long but if you read, and do the study guides, you will be fine. Good Luck!
Crim 1 is a mandatory class for all crim students Class is 4 hours on a Fri evening and 8 hrs on Sat. Boring course she had people spying on us and she spoke in condescending manner towards us. 5 assignments given incl. 3 page paper req. Don't ask her questions in email or you'll get sarcasm. If anyone else teaches course, take them instead.
I was not impressed. Took her for Crim 1 and it was a painful 2 days. Plus, you won't find out if you passed until the semester is over because she doesn't grade anything until the last minute. She also gets irritated if you email her asking for your grade. The work was easy but it's frustrating having to wait 3 months to find out if you passed.
Don't take her fro crim 1. She is a horrible professor for this course. She is also very inconsiderate and rude if you try to message her through email. She also is the most picky critic for papers. She is looking for scholar work.
Make sure you go to class and copy down all of the notes and what ever she writes on the board. Also the study guides are very long, but worth it if you want to do well on the test. If you find yourself struggling, I recommend going to the SI sessions especially the review session before the tests.
Her Crim 155 class was probably the hardest class I've taken thus far in my life. SI sessions are essentially mandatory. If you study a lot and read a lot and go to the SI Sessions you can pull an A... but you will have to work for it.
Dr. Skrapec is absolutely passionate about what she does. Her lectures are amazing. Be ready to read and take notes on lectures. Also, the exams are really difficult so it's important to study everyday! Side note, TURN OFF YOUR CELLPHONES! Y'all will get kicked out if it vibrates or rings!!
Take her if you really want the most insight you can get, and seriously take your work. Participate, take notes, ask her questions, and TURN OFF PHONES!!!! She is passionate about her work and if you put the effort she acknowledges it. Best part of class are her stories, because they always go with the topic.
Great teacher. Great class. Lots and lots of info. Huge study guides that cover a lot. She makes you work for your grade but its not hard if you pay attention in class. Definitely a good class if you want to take your studies seriously.
Best professor ever! Very inspirational and very kind. Her lectures are super clear and easy to understand. It is important that you attend her class regularly and take notes carefully. Note taking is super important though.
Dr. Skrapec's lectures were so interesting. It is a 100 point class. 25 for the first exam, 30 for the second exam and 35 for the final. The last 10 points area writing assignment. This means there is not much room for mistakes. Her study guides are very detailed and are about 5 pages minimum single spaced. Make sure to go to class!!!
Though I'm not a Crim major, I can honestly say Skrapec was the best professor I've ever had at Fresno State. I've never learned so much in a single classroom. It was a tough class, but the quality of her lectures was the best I've ever seen. Take this class so you can learn something that will benefit your overall view of the justice system.
Never have I had a professor be so rude and unprofessional towards students there students.
Mandatory crim class. 2 days. You sit for 4-8 hour lectures. Many guest speakers. TAKE GOOD NOTES on who said what for the main paper!! It's a large class, so you won't know your grade until they're officially posted on myfresnostate. You're graded on a few assignments, so don't slack off. NO phones + don't be late, or it'll affect your grade.
you will not know your grade until she posts it for grades, she will not update nothing on Blackboard. Tough class just for upper division course. To much information from one class
A 2 day class. About 4 assignments total, she tells you how she wants it and what is due the day of the class. Must attend both days. One main paper that is about what she goes over in class. Take good notes about who said what. She is very picky about citing! Class was interesting though, but you sit down for quite a few hours.... exhausting
Dr. Skrapec really knows what she is talking about! She has been in the field for a long time and still studies criminals. She has a great sense of humor. Take notes on what she says- tests are based on that and some readings. Not too hard if you do easy readings assigned.
Dr. Skrapec is passionate about teaching. Aside from being great at conveying information during lecture, she has many years of practical experience in the field. You must show up for lecture as she won't post her lecture PowerPoints online.
She is very passionate about her work. Be ready to take a lot of notes. The lectures are amazing and goes by really fast. 2 exams and a final. She is very helpful during office hours and has a fair scoring on her exams.
She's incredibly passionate about what she does. She has a lot of experience in the field. Long lectures but they're very interesting. 3 exams, 2 in class writing assignments, 2 ec opportunities. She doesn't upload her ppts on bb/canvas + she also writes a lot on the whiteboard so attend class and TAKE GOOD NOTES!
Learned a lot in this course by the way she taught. She loves what she does and it shows. Must attend class to pass as she does not post powerpoints on Canvas and she does not tolerate phone use, but it is for your own good! Great material covered by a great instructor.
This teacher is unbelievable, and not in a good way. She rambles on in the lecture about tangents that dont make any sense. She does not know how to use her technology and she has no sense of grading. I would not take her class- even out of sheer curiosity. Steer clear if you want some sanity.
Horrible. Worst professor/teacher Ive EVER had. Please trust me and do not take her. She does not care about her students (and has said this) and thinks its healthy to have the majority of the class doing horribly (has also said this). Trust me. Avoid at all costs.
The worst online class you could take. She has the power to try to make things a little easier during this pandemic but refuses and is perfectly okay with only 14% of her students having an A.
She's rude. Won't answer your questions during zoom meeting. If you email her, again, she's rude. Blames students for not passing test. Does NOT take criticism well. Has 3 tests and there is nothing to weigh your grade with. Study guide she gives for each test are scrambled. (Have to copy/ paste to a word doc just to sort through it.)
Lectures are good, but tests and exams are extremely hard. She does give out a study guide that is about 5 pages long. Most questions on study guide arent even on the test.
The class is interesting overall. Class consists of 3 exams and two writing assignment -we haven't even discussed yet. She does come off rude sometimes and isn't willing to take blame for failing students. Doesn't curve grades. Take good notes and rewatch lectures if you want to pass this class. She also doesn't go over the exams AT ALL.
Honestly grading is all on the test pretty much and she has massive study guides that do not help you on the test! I have dont the study guides fully read the material she assigns and re watched her lectures! Nothing helps! She is scattered when lecturing and goes off the slides frequently!
I am currently taking her FBS 153 Class. Her zoom lectures are boring and her writing assignments are very picky on what she is looking for specifically. Her study guides have half the material on the test at most. Kind of lucky COVID-19 is giving me the the no credit option. I don't recommend taking her FALL retired classes that she lectures...
Anyone below me saying they had a hard time this semester simply isnt competent. Started the first test with a D+ because I really didnt know what to expect. Finished the class missing only 2 points from 2 writing assignments and 2 exams and got an A- in a class out of 100pts. Take notes, pay attention, you get what you give. The class is doable.
I know that a lot of students struggled this semester. For me personally, I was really interested on the topics she talked about in lectures and paid attention. You have to take really good notes and listen if you want to do well on the exams. She grades hard on the writing exams, but allows you to have your notes. She makes you work for it.
She rambles and bounces around on her lectures a lot. Her study guides are extremely long and not even half of the material is on the exams. She is a poor grader and when you ask why you got what you got she blames you and makes excuses. She doesnt help and doesnt take criticism well at all. I feel she wants her students to fail rather than pass.
She is a nice lady, but her teaching style was near impossible for online. She has like 5 paged study guides and the test almost never have the content from the guides. They are not even real study guides it is basically a rewrite of the whole presentation. Way too hard for a gen-ed class.
The worst professor I have ever had. Very unprofessional. Rambles through lectures and is very unclear. She has zero homework, discussions, or assignments. She gives 3 exams (no notes) and 3 recorded writings. Her exam "study guides" are five pages long, and hardly any of the material covered in the study guide is on the exam itself. Horrible class
Definitely love a class where it all depends on three exams. Do yourself a favor and take the time and money you have and pass on this one. It can be really unfair and personally I'd take group projects and lots of homework or papers any day over three exams to make up your whole grade. Oh and don't expect test feedback the next day in class.
She's nice and very knowledgeable in her field, but this class was extremely difficult. Too many terms to remember and you MUST remember exact terms in exact words or you probably will get a test question wrong. Would not take again.
Online course, three exams that were multiple choice. Second part of exams were essay questions. Exams required respondus lockdown browser WITH web cam, no notes (except for essay questions). Study guides were 5 pages long and only 1-2 pages were actually used. Scores for exams on Canvas were not istant but given 2-3 weeks later.
Make sure you take down notes, especially on the lectures that she posts. Most of the exam questions are on what she says/how she words it. 3 exams are on a lockdown browser (with camera so be prepared), and 2 writing assignments (lockdown + camera too + cheat sheet permitted). As long as you take notes and understand the material, easy A :)
You are given lecture time but she posted lectures for you. I passed with an A by rewatching lectures and filling out her study guide at the same time. Easy class if you just watch lectures, I never looked at the book. Do the work and you'll get an A. Not easy, but you learn a lot. She is very experienced and kept her lectures interesting!
