SMART, friendly, accessible teacher. He really knows his stuff!!! You will definitely learn something from his courses. Great teacher, super helpful . Mr. Nguyen is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I think if anyone hates math this is the teacher to take. I have always struggled in math..and I got a B. He truly wants his students to fully understand the material and is very helpful during office hours. I would highly recommend HIM.
he is the best you better take him :)
He seems like a nice guy but he is not a very good teacher. He definitely knows his stuff but does not know how to clealy explain/teach the material. I listened to him & took his notes the first few classes but always left the class confused. If you take his class & are capable of teaching the material to yourself then I would advise doing so.
He is a very confusing teacher. When teaching he mkaes it harder than it is, leaving you more confused then when you started. Often you have to teach yourself. Also his tests are harder than the material he teaches in class. I would not recommend him.
Very nice teacher. However, he is very hard to follow and tends to create confusion when explaining things. He knows his field but doesn't know how to explain it very well. I wouldn't recommend for students who aren't already good in math you will end up lost and confused.
Very friendly and, contrary to what some may say, is good at explaining Trig and Calculus material. You must be comfortable with lower level MAT classes in order to do well in 171 and 172 as they are hard courses. He fully explains any problems worked or any homework. I took him for two courses, so I highly recommend him.
He breaks down EVERY new concept in great detail, gives examples and goes through them slowly for the entire duration of the class. He stops for any questions and even trys to answer ones he thinks students might want to ask. Fair and adequate amount of H.W., you can use notes on quizes, and the test aren't brutally long. Very fair, very relaxed.
HOT! smoking hot! cute!
Is it me or does he tend to stare off into the celing like he was talking to the "Great Gazo" from the Flintstones?
he's very unorganized i found him to be all over the place if you need to take math 140 please do not get him i've learned my lesson and i wont take another math class under him ever again.
Mat 171 and 172 are hard classes but this instructor does a good job of explaining the material and if you are having trouble, will make time to help you in whatever you need. I have had him for both 171 and 172 and if you are not in class and don't do the homework then you cannot expect to pass these classes. An awesome math instructor!!
Love him
He's a great teacher and very helpful.
He's just awesome.
Good teacher, pretty easy and will help you on what you need most of the time. Some times a bit confusing, but if you try you will pass MAT 171, 172 with relative ease.
he's fun to look at, very cute! but it seems like when he is lecturing he focuses on the ceiling & not the students. he seems new to teaching so i guess he's nervous. As long as you come to class & do your homework you should get an A.
Lord Jesus Christ. HE IS HOT!!! It's nice to have some eye candy motivation to come to class. But great teacher. I recommend him if your math literate. If you're not good in it and you need to have everything break down, he's not for you.
Good Teacher; explains well and actually knows what he's talking about, and he's pretty patient
He is a really great teacher to have! Very helpful and patient. Lenient as well...he does use the examples from the text book but isnt a requirement to have it...(i didnt buy the book and was able to keep up)...he does look at the ceiling alot but i guess it makes him comfortable...and yes he is hot! Love him! wish he teached my next math course!
Love him. He's helpful, brilliant at math, patient, really laid back as far as attendance, tardiness, cell phone use, etc. goes... And you can tell he's a generally cool person. Does tutoring sessions twice a week... if you make the effort he'll really try to help you out. And yeah, he's totally gorgeous. I love his hair.
Explains in detail in easy to understand format. Breaks down complicated material. Will stay and help if needed. Gives twice a week help sessions. Probably the best MAT teacher I have had. Might try him for CALC or go to Levine as I hear the other CAL teachers a Central or horrible at best.
Very confusing class. Little to no teaching. He came in and wrote one problem on the board each day meanwhile you had several problems to learn. I can't recommend this class. He knew the material but would often talk down to you in front of other students if you asked him a question. He was often on his cell phone and computer during class time.
He is so smart and brilliant when it comes to math, only problem was that I am not and he was unable to come down to my level to help me understand. He is the Math Dept head and offers tutoring twice a week. He wants you to do well and gives many opportunities. I am sure he is great if you understand math already but for developmental not so much
He is a great teacher. Tests are very simple, not too many questions. However, he gives tons of homework and will not work with you in case of an emergency.
He teaches this class extremely well. The entire class, homework, quizzes, and tests, were all taken through course connect. If you keep up with course connect and ask questions when needed, you can easily get an A in this course.
He was a very good teacher. He was very helpful and wanted to make sure his class succeeded in learning MAT 080. He is very knowledgeable in this class.
If you are already knowledgeable in this subject, this should be the easiest teacher ever. Do the textbook problem homework even though that's not mandatory. Then you will get an A very easily.
Only take his classes if you know what you are doing. After being taught calculus by someone who had a concrete understanding of the material, it is clear that Professor Nguyen has a loose understanding at best of the core concepts needed for each lesson. However, he is able to help students with specific problems well.
You can tell he is very smart, but you can also tell he is new to teaching. I had to withdraw from his class because i was just not catching on. He will sometimes skip over steps when teaching the class a problem. He knows how to do the questions but he's not as good at explaining it from the ground up for someone who is completely new to calculus.
This class is fun. Professor Nguyen is very helpful and whenever you ask questions, he is always answer. He is always help students in class and during office hours. If you come to class, do homework and recommend problems, you will be fine. And yes he is HOT!
I struggled in his exams but he is an excellent professor. If you show interest he will work with you and help you for 3 hours if necessary. I would recommend his classes!
His teaching styles are great. one of the great teach in history. I wish i can take his class again and again until i finish math class. students can learn a lot. very easy and professional teachers. Tests are easy. Teach very well.
He is an awesome professor!! He takes his time and help you understand, he stays after class and ANSWERS emails. It was more difficult for me because my last math class was over 25 years ago; Professor Nguyen helped me understand and took his time. He has a great sense of humor but he's about the numbers :)
he is so kind he explains too clear he answers every question you ask
A fantastic professor, in my opinion. He clearly explains all the concepts in a very detailed manner and clears up any problems you might have. He sets you up for success and leaves your performance on tests up to you.
Great teacher and very helpful. He works with his student and treats them as a big brother. He's super nice and very professional. I highly recommend him.
Professor Nguyen is an amazing math teach. He is very skilled with analyzing difficult concepts and breaking them down for easier understanding. He is also very considerate to making his lecture easily relatable and valuing each student's unique way of learning. As long as you do the homework you will excel! TAKE HIS CLASS YOU WONT REGRET IT.
Professor Nguyen spends most of the class showing you how to complete problem examples but you aren't quizzed on anything specific from these lectures. Homework is routine on ALEKS which is all easily done. Tests are short and simple but cover the basics of each section. Attend class and pay attention and this is an easy A.
Based on the first few weeks of class Professor Nguyen is a Horrible professor , no one understands what hes doing because he doesn't explain how to do anything or any of the concepts, basically a self teach class which is not what you want in a math course
Mr. Nguyen is a great teacher. His test are not hard at all. He's goes through every step of the problem so you can understand. You do not use a calculator in his class but its worth it. If you're not sure about a topic, he is open after class, during breaks or his office hours. You do not need to buy a physical text book; ebook on Aleks will do.
Mr. Nguyen is very smart and a very nice person. However, sometimes it is a little hard to follow his lessons. But he is always willing to help you if you don't understand. Will break down every concept for you, available to help after class and during office hours. Do HW on Aleks, the reviews and with some effort, you will pass. Book is online too
Cao Nguyen was a great teacher. He was very fast paced, but he knew how to break a problem down, and show the class how to do it. The Aleks reviews and test are very similar, but the test do have more advanced question. As long as you do Aleks assignments and study, you should get a B or higher.
Overall wasn't bad. It gets pretty boring during class, but he is very good at breaking concepts down, and making them easy to understand. ALWAYS available to help you during his office hours, very caring. With that being said, his final for precalc was nothing like the reviews, very hard problems, confusing numbers. Doesn't allow calculator.
Mr. Nguyen, is not a terrible professor. He tries to help you when you don't understand. But at the end, he doesn't comply with policies established at the start of the semester. Disappointed.
Pros: - kind -Helpful Cons: -Teaches differently than software -Tough Grader -Does not allow calculators!!!! -Not very clear
I don't know why anyone would say he grades tough or doesn't comply with his original policies. I had to take this class twice and he was awesome. Glad I had him the second time around. Super awesome with grading. If I had to take a math class again he is the professor I would choose.
I hated this class. I love math, and granted trig may not be for me, I'm more of an algebra person but he is awful at explaining everything in this class. He rants and jumps around in the book. We had a test next class and instead of studying and answering our questions he wanted to work way ahead in the book for hw that wasn't due for two weeks.
Tests are HARD! Practice the problems until you fully understand them... it'll be worth it.
I am fairly good at math but some of the tests, especially the final, were overly hard (and they're 80% of your grade). It was like he was finding the hardest possible problems to put on the final, things we didn't even see in ALEKS. It took me 4 hours to take a 20 question final! If math isn't your strong suit, I wouldn't recommend him for online.
I've usually done very well in math, this is the first class I was not only struggling in but sure of my own failure in this class. There are minimal teaching and the hardest tests I've ever encountered. I wouldn't recommend the online class at all unless you already know the material.
Mr Nguyen is a good teacher, I had him for Pre-Calculus Algebra and he explained well how to work each problem but there was alot of homework he assigned on ALEKS, I would take him again if ALEKS isn't involved.
Amazing teacher. Spends extra time with students after class to ensure they understand. A Lot of homework thanks to Aleks. Exceptional lectures, easy to understand, step by step with everything. Definitely recommend.
Highly recommend Prof. Nguyen! Best math professor. Just come to class, listen, ask questions and do your part.... you will get an A.
He explained topics well and made it easy to understand. He breaks down topics with you and makes sure you understand step-by-step. As long as you do the ALEKS work and attend class you can pass. But there is lots of ALEKS work.
I am taking his trig class online, I wouldn't recommend it. I've emailed him about how I'm having a hard time understanding it through aleks but his response was to do it again in aleks and look up videos to watch.
TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE professor! I tend to be very good at math, but he makes it impossible to pass his class! He's not understanding and gives out ALEKS homework like crazy. He has a study guide on ALEKS but it's impossible to complete if there are 35 assignments to learn before you can move on! I would NOT recommend this professor to anyone!
Mr. Nguyen wasnt a bad professor. I thought he kind of explained things in a way that was hard to understand though. Most of the stuff I learned by myself through Aleks and YouTube. There is TONS of homework on Aleks, which was kind of annoying. You just have to pay attention in class and keep practicing problems. He was a cool guy though.
Mr. Nguyen is a nice professor and is very understanding, but his class is HARD. There is TONS of homework on Aleks, and only a short amount of time is allotted to get it done. He is very fast-paced during lectures. The tests are hard, especially the short answer portion. I would not put myself through this class ever again.
He is a terrible teacher. His "instruction" involves doing 3 problems in class and does not explain anything at all. At the end of the semester, he will not help you out whatsoever. If you have a 79.9 he will not round up, in fact, he will say that is a clear representation of what you did in this class. He is awful
Took precalc with this prof, he didn't do much 'teaching' and moved really fast in between subjects. after every lecture, we broke up into two groups and spent an hour doing problems from the book. i learned nothing.
I took the percale with him, I literarily learn nothing from him! it was a terrible experience to me esp it was my first semester. He is rude!
Mr. Nguyen has been one of my favorite professors. He teaches a difficult class but explains concepts very well. He deeply cares about his students and is always ready to help with questions or with due date extensions if needed. Lots of homework, but makes the tests extremely easy because you have already practiced everything a lot.
Hates helping Students
My 3rd attempt at trig. Took him over the summer in a short session class so beware of many assignments. Assigns LOTS of test prep and PLENTY of homework (expect up to 20+ hours of work per week). Tests were easy if you did the work and lectures were long (at times) but extremely thorough. Understanding, responds quickly, and gives extensions.
Very understanding and simplifies difficult material well. Highly recommend for anyone who struggles with math. Best advice to pass class with good grade is to complete each and every hw and practice test thoroughly and you're well set for the tests/exams.
I took this class online and it was very hard. I had to teach myself everything because his lectures did not help. He would show a very simple question and then give really complicated problems. If he does not like the way you show work on your tests then he takes away points.
I took Professor Nguyen in the Fall and his lectures were pretty good to follow along to. Although, I would recommend taking his class in-person for help purposes. Not many problems on our homework or in-class were on the tests, but it was still manageable.
He is an amazing teacher!!! people say he is difficult but he is not. stay on top of work and ask questions!!! Tests are worth a large percentage of grade so just do the study guide over and over and over again to make sure you understand. Overall, the class was super easy and manageable.
He is chill. For the most part, you will be teaching yourself or using Aleks to learn. The study guides are usually different from the actual test. However, the final exam study guide was nearly the same as the test. The hw might be a lot for some, but to me, it was doable. Do not depend on the hw to bring up your grade; they're not worth much.
I did not really understand his method of teaching, he would hand you the answers and expect to learn off Aleks which was always frustrating to me. He does not respond to emails. He is a tough grader when it comes to the tests, I found myself failing every single one of the tests after crying and studying for the test.
Really great professor but wayyy too test heavy. Loved her as a person but tests were worth almost a quarter of the grade.
Mr. Nguyen is an amazing professor! He is extremely test-heavy so you must do well on the test to succeed in his class. The first test I failed because I did not understand his testing style, however, in the next 2 tests I got over 95%. It is crucial to repeatedly do the study guides he gives you. Overall, a great teacher and will help you if asked
Mr. Nguyen was a pretty chill dude. I really like the way he explained each topic throughout the course, he was very easy to understand. The study guides helped me, especially because your grade is heavily effect my the tests.
In the online course he literally does not teach. The entirety of the course is through ALEKS and he takes the lectures that are incorporated in ALEKS and puts them in the section where his lectures are supposed to be. I wish ill will upon him.
I took online precalc trig with Professor Nguyen and I had a good experience. All work is completed on aleks and the pre-test determines your workload for each topic, so if you get a good grade it will lighten the workload by a lot. The tests are on lockdown browser, but he does not use webcam or audio recording which is great.
Professor Nguyen is an amazing teacher who makes math enjoyable with his detailed ALEKS lessons, calm demeanor, and humor. The class isn't easy, but doing homework, reviewing unit labs before tests, and asking questions will help you succeed. He truly wants his students to thrive, and I'm grateful for his support and encouragement!
Mr. Nguyen was a really cool professor. One thing about his lectures is that they are based of the homework on Aleks. So was the exams, so your best friend in MAT 171 is Aleks and staying after lecture to ask questions with Mr. Nguyen. Thank you Mr. Nguyen
He's alright, he doesnt teach + is VERY test heavy. The entire course is on Aleks + tests are worth 70% of ur grade (meaning it will be nearly impossible to make up a bad test score with hw or anything other than another test). I took his 8 week course. So, expect to have 40 or 70 topics one week + a test the next.
(I made the previous review) I wanna say if you're not good at math, dont take his classes! With him being test heavy, itll be hard to make up ur grade if u just keep getting mediocre test scores (if u want an A). The study guides are identical to the tests. There is a lot of material, to me they werent that difficult just very time consuming.
He explained everything easy to understand. He also gave an extension for homework, which I was thankful for. He is also a caring person and always wants students to be successful.
He made it simple to understand. His lecture videos were very helpful. He makes math very interesting to study.
Grading is very test heavy but he replaces the lowest with the final test grade. Lots of homework to do. I found his recorded lectures to be extremely helpful and informative but they are really low quality which made it hard to follow at points. He doesn't give very good feedback on tests. You get almost nothing other than the grade.
The professor really grades your work carefully. The class was also heavy test focused (70%), so there is no way to make up with your other homework's.
I just do not like how the homework will not help you if you bomb a test. He is good at explaining, but I would not recommend doing this class in a half semester.
Dropped last week and feel like a cow has been lifted off my shoulders. The homework would take me 9 hours. I was already taking 18 credit hours at my home institution and spent more time on this class than all of those combined. It is a LOT of work, so be ready! I have taken a math class at CPCC before, but this one is way too time consuming.
Wants to show formula for every question.
Professor Nguyen obviously cares that you learn the material from his course and puts forth his best effort to help you learn it. I enjoyed the course, and I do feel that I learned the subject material. The only qualms are that signature assignment felt out of place with the rest of the course, and he tended to ramble in his lectures.
