nice, fair, mom-like teacher, but assignments take forever
Biased towards the more gifted students. Always reminds people of her PhD.
Such an awesome instructor!

LOVE this teacher. It does not matter how difficult she was. The harder she was, the better the teacher I think. I will not be taking pysch at this school with anyone else!!
hard prof but she knows her stuff. # of q's on assignments equal the number of hrs it takes to complete
Took her class @ Douglas during summer, nice & helpful. When studying pay more attention to the text than her lectures. Responds fast to emails.
She was great. As long as you put in at least a half-assed effort, you should be fine.
I thought I was going to POKE MY EYES OUT! I don't know if it was the course work or her, but I threw a party when it was over. BORING!! Whatever you do, don't take her in a 4 hour block!
Warning! She is not a great teacher, making things way more difficlut than they need to be. I would not recommend this prof to anyone.
If you don't study for the exams you're in trouble. If she tells you the exam is easy don't believe her and study hard. She is a good teacher but others may be easier for the GPA.
Ok marker on tests, but she makes it virtually impossible to do well on assignments and gives questions she hasn't explained and expects you to work it out on your own!
extremely favoritism, so make sure u do sum azz kissin'. her assignments are much harder than her exams (funny huh?, i know). it is truly impossible to get perfect on her assignments. however, her style of teaching is great.
doesnt teach text but thats all the tests areon if you have her READ THE TEXT she just blabbers in class almost not worth going assignments are fairly hard unless you take that stupid middle opinion and consider every side all the time (too wordy for me)
am taking her course right now. She is the hardest marker ever, a total gpa killer. Also, if you ask her to explain anything all she does is "but.." you instead of answering. overall not the worst psych teacher but pretty scary
one of my fave teachers..! she is really nice on class.. she shares the class some of her own stories as an example for the topic. (good stories of course that will keep you glued on ur seat).. reccomended..!
She tests on EVERYTHING in the text book. Fairly amusing for the first hour but not into the third. Wouldn't recommend her
You cant slack.. If you didnt like her its becuase you slacked the entire time you were in her class
utterly terrible teacher in all regards
she liked me, so was nice and helpful, but she does play favourites, and will be truly nasty to those students she doesn't like (belittle them in class). she knows about this site (mentioned it in class)and i believe she comes on and rates herself.

She is the prof who made me switch over to being a Psyc major!! Her tests aren't that bad if you pay attention to what she emphasizes in lecture. You get out of the course what you put in. She's a great prof to prepare students for upper level classes. I graduate after this semester...trust me!
Amazing teacher. Recomended but not to any one who slacks off
She is okay but I am not enjoying her teaching or class but nice
A very good prof, but the class is boring and feels like you are in grade one
If you like home ec. teachers, you'll like her. She's totally friendly and nice. Just make sure you're on her good side.
LOVED HER!! She is tough but if you work hard she rewards you for your effort. She will help you so much and even give you HUGE hints about the midterm and final. She is an AMAZING teacher. VERY inspiring.
funny teacher and uses real life examples. very hospitable. a real "mother hen"! willing to help, especially with group projects. fair marker.wish she taught psyc 301 at sfu instead. she'd be great and i probably wouldn't have failed!
Would make a good elementary teacher, but not university
I liked her quite a bit. She tries to make the material as easy to understand as possible, which might be interpreted as "talking down" to the class. That said, she's interesting, fun, friendly and quite smart. I'd highly recommend her classes.
Cara's patronizing approach turned me off to what should be an interesting subject. The lectures are dry, lack moderation and don't cover material tested on exams. Certain irritating students exploit the class time to get themselves heard, asking the most inane questions and voicing their opinions on off-topic subjects. Patronizing, dull, insulting
Very good teacher, hard to get an A, but i felt that i learned alot in the 2 classes i had with her.
A great teacher; she gives good notes and often uses a hands-on approach to her teaching, which is fun and interesting. She marks the open ended part of exams REALLY HARD, so study a lot. She is also very helpful if you go see her outside of class time. Overall, a very good teacher!
Questions on assignments are not clear. She picks favourites and belittles anyone who asks a question in class. Some people just don't understand math. She thinks she is funny, but clearly has no sense of humor. Too bad she's the only option for this class. ANYONE else whould be better.
awful prof in every manner - talks down to students and utterly destroyed all interest i had in psychology.
I had this prof 10 years ago for a phsyc 100 course. Several years of schooling later, I can confidently say she was the worst instructor I have ever had. Judgemental, condescending and arogant in her opinion and how she talked to me, she frightened me from ever taking another Psych course again.
I thought Cara was a great prof. Yes the material may be hard for many to grasp, and perhaps she is a tough marker on assignments, but she explains concepts well and I think that she generally does a good job. You must attend nearly every class if you want to not get confused on the material!
good prof, hard to get a hold of.
I have never had problems with her talking down to kids in class, however, she doesn't encourage much class discussion and does contradict everything you say. She was very hard to get a hold off for research proposals as she never answers her emails and is rarely at the school. (2 days a week think?)
Not only is Cara completely unfair, she throws difficult stats. assignments at Intro Psych students! She is moody and impossible, with zero compassion and tolerance - unless you're a loudmouth with a useless comment. I lost total regard for Psychology thanks to her. Worst prof I've ever, and probably ever will have.
Very knowledgeable and thought the tests were fair, but her attitude gets in the way. Very condescending and moody. You never know which Cara will show up. Could be a good prof if she stuck to the course work and left her personal thoughts about students at the door. I have mixed feelings.
I really enjoyed Cara for Research Methods! She can be a bit moody at times, but she was always organized in her lectures and taught at a good pace. The textbooks are pretty useless, but skim them for multiple choice test questions. Otherwise the tests are based on her notes! Really not a bad class, and not as tough as I thought it would be!
I had Cara at Douglas College and I must say she is a funny person. Of course there will be people who do not get her sense of humor but she is a great caring teacher. I did find at times however she could be a bit moody and the whole my way or the highway type senario but thats minor...I think she has something to add to the field of psychology.
It sucks but I'm afraid I have to agree with every negative comment on here about Cara: moody, condescending, belittling, arrogant, and sits around gabbing with her favorites for the class. All the material is in the text; you won't get anything from her. Her attitude and demeanor scared me into withdrawing.
Worst prof ever. Creates an atmosphere in the classroom that makes it absolutely unbearable to attend. Relies on "gotcha" questions and belittles smart students and pampers those who have useless garbage to spew. Avoid at all costs if you enjoy a solid GPA. Don't throw your hard earned money away taking this course with this person!
Very orgnized and clear. I can see why people say she's moody sometimes, but at least she was trying to control it. Lots of homework! But it's a good idea to do it cuz it can help you to practice.
Hard to follow information provided in class. Assignment questions are often convoluted and at times poorly worded.
She is moody and BORING. Her tone rude. She will talk to you during office hours only to criticize your work, but not constructively. If you wish to do well and stay excited about Psychology, look for a prof that is more aware of their students' reactions towards how they are teaching the course.
What can I say. I have been absolutely enthralled with each and every psych prof I have had at Cap. Cara is a monster though. Breathes fire in her sleep, guaranteed. Has obvious favourites, and obvious dislikes. Totally unprofessional. Intelligence includes people skills in my opinion, so I don't even think she is very smart. Think twice.
Also, it should tell you something when a bunch of the positive comments for her on this site obviously came from the same person (family, perhaps?) - look on the last page or two - three reviews that say "ur the best teacher ever u go gurl" etc etc.
WOW, is she really still allowed to teach at Cap? Any positive review of her on here was created.. by HER! She admits it! Please take my advice and whatever you do, do not take any class taught by Cara Zascow! Your GPA will deflate as you are talked down to, disrespected and have learned absolutely jack. Please dismiss her, Capilano admin. Avoid!!!
Unbelievably ridiculous marker. Since she chose a half a million years ago to do some (insert sarcasm)really edgy research on facial expression and emotion (way to explore the human psyche!) she now lords over 1st and 2nd year students, expecting graduate level work with little to no actual help. She is good at criticizing! I will give her that.
omg she is the worst psyc prof ever. she is extremely hard at marking, she expects us to do a good job when she teaches us nothing. this is definitely a GPA dropper class.
I was going to rate lower but at least she has one good quality- If you work hard, you will be rewarded! Not a class for you to fking around. She teaches you very limited material but you are expecting to know everything. Its like she has forgotten what it was like to be a student. O, and Dont bother talk to her outside of class, she no likey help!
shes the best she explains everything so clearly. i can see why some people say shes hard marker but if you do the work it shouldn't be too bad !. she makes everything easy to understand and guides you through every step
A lot of people talk a lot of smack on her, and I guess I get it, but Cara is a fantastic teacher if you pay attention and put in your best effort. Stuff's hard, but it's good to have it drilled in your head. She doesn't just hand out grades.
Really good teacher; at the beginning I thought it would be a boring class to attend, but Cara was very helpful and clear about the course material. If you do what is required of you - you will get a good mark. Class is not difficult, although there will be no point in asking for assistance outside of class, since she won't be very helpful.
Worst teacher in Capilano Psyc Program. Made statistics painful, when it isn't. Her word questions were convoluted and tricky, her exams are ridiculously long and stressful. If you ask her for help, she belittles you. Her moodiness was hard to deal with. She was jaded and unprofessional in her teaching. If you can take the course elsewhere.
Cara is a great prof. The course requires lots of work but she is very clear on what she wants. Exams are lengthy but if you put in the effort of studying the textbook and reviewing her lecture notes, you can do well. Just try to be as detailed as possible since she is a critical marker.
Cara is incredibly sweet and her explanations during class are great. She makes time for out of class tutorials that should definitely be taken advantage of! The work she expects is detail oriented, as long as you follow the instructions you'll be fine. She always has fun stories to share and provides great opportunities for students in the field.
Had Cara for both Reserach Methods and Stats. If you work hard you'll be rewarded. As to her "approachability", you just need to abide by her office hours. She has made tons of time for me and done many things to help me that she didn't need to (she even got me a psych related job and helped me with scholarships applications). Very sweet person.
Cara really cares about her students. Her test cover almost everything so study it all. By far one of the most caring teachers ever! Class was taken Fall 2011.
Unprofessional professor, not willing to help students at all. However, if you read the text, you'll do just fine.
Unfair and seems very condescending to certain students. Long winded exams and explanations. Fellow student beside me provided zero assistant during class activities. Received full participation marks. I provided decent participation, received low marks. 'nuff said.
While she seems to know a lot about the material she is teaching she also seems to have difficulties in being able to convey that information in a manner that students understand.
Had her for Psych 213 (Stats). There was no homework or practice questions so we had only our 'one example per concept' notes package to study from, and the assignments were 10x harder than the lecture content. Also the textbook costs $120 and you literally only use 5 pages. Yeah she's kind and hilarious, but she doesn't care about your grade.
she is by far the worst teacher I have EVER had! she never explains what she is looking for and when you ask for help she avoids the topic all together. I emailed her after the course to ask what I could have done better- no response at all very disrespectful and talked down to all of the students gave 15's because I cant put 0's
Cara seems nice but is super rude. Her notes are fairly clear but you have to fill in everything important. She only gives 1 example (2 if you're lucky) so it is hard to generalize and apply your limited knowledge to other questions. Her assignments are extremely hard and you only use 6 pages of the $130 textbook. Avoid her.
As the term progressed Cara became less helpful. Material covered in class did not correspond to the text (different formulae used in class) so was hard to study. Felt that we were nowhere near prepared for the depth and intensity of her assignmentstests. She was rude and quite elusive answering questions. I felt robbed of my learning experience.
Cara is the worst teacher i've ever had at Capilano. She has ridiculous expectations for her students, she's unorganized, not helpful and she's extremely passive aggressive. To top it off, she posted the wrong chapters to study for on the final exam (correcting her mistake only a few days before the final) AND cancelled her office hours. RUDE.
I was very hesitant to take this class with her because I've heard bad things. First couple weeks she seems very funny and laid back, but her assignments are very tough and she expects too much of her students. And don't bother asking for any help or clarification, because she will not give any help whatsoever.
I had Cara for both 213 and 212. They were tough classes and the textbooks were not as helpful as I was hoping, but if you need help, Cara will always help you to the best she can. She definitely challenges you and makes you work hard!
The worst teacher i've had, makes you feel like you're a stupid four year old. very unprofessional and phony.
I had her for psych 100 and she was amazing. Took my paper to her and she gave me great critics and ways to improve. Always willing to help you out and answer questions. Class was engaging, text book however was extremely dull.
I took her 212 and 213 a few years ago. Cara is tough and makes students work, but it's worth it. I learned so much!
worst prof ever, She hated me from the beginning for no reason, she got mad at me because in her explanation for a assignment she left out huge details and of course i didn't add those details, she only went over what was on the midterm for five mins one class before. She never explains what she wants out of you, so then you end up doing it wrong.
Before I take this course, I read quite a lot bout her and many people had given low rating or average. I believe she is accurate but not tough, which it is the nature of statistics. I learned quite a lot from CARA although the course is confusing at some points. I think she was great but statistics is not easy if you are not interested in Math.
Gives tests on material she hasn't taught, is unprofessional, seems not to understand the material herself.
Sweet woman, humor is hit or miss.
